Hi! Any tips on how to embrace and connect to your Indian/desi culture? I’m struggling
Heyyy , here
Embracing desi culture
Tumblr media
First step to connect to who you are is knowing your roots , a very easy step is to ask your elders , observe the people around you , if you don't reside currently in India , watch some Bollywood movies , some good cartoons , some amazing music .
Know your language, when you're able to realise the beauty in your language and you know that you belong in this you will automatically start to see yourself in the light of your culture .
Then go to some books , some stories , some fiction goes a good mile , for example: an Indian fictional story and there is a character try identify with the character .
What are the rituals in your religion , try doing it sometimes , like Hindu rituals or muslim customs, Sikh customs etc , for example try reading a version of gita , recite Gayatri mantra , read namaz , wear Sikh attire, go get some information about the churches in India , India is deeply tied to religion and each religion has its own beauty, identify and keep doing what makes you belong, it might seem a bit off putting at first but i promise you will grow to love it.
Wear desi dresses , like a lehenga , kurta , shervani anything anything buy online , but locally . I do not believe there is another attire more beautiful than a saree and you will love it , get your hands on jhumkas , do glam makeup the clean makeup girlies can wait .
Cook Indian food , eat Indian food , the flavours will bind you really good with your culture .
Celebrate festivals , go attend an Indian shaadi , so many customs rituals , food , music , people around , it's like a gala my dear , outside people would pay so much for that and you get it for free so don't refuse any invitations .
Lastly don't be embarrassed of yourself, media portrays us weirdly at times but know thyself where you come from , it's a history of establishment, ruling , love , survival , fights , it's a story of floor spilled blood , of the ancestors who ensured you live with pride , so do it hold your faith in who you are .

☯︎ Above the Physical Laws
Tumblr media
This is said so beautifully in Rudram (a Hindu hymn dedicated to Rudra — an epithet of Śiva, taken from the Yajurveda). It is said that there are all types of people in this world. Some people betray, people who are not faithful, people who are intelligent yet not up to the mark, people who are dumb, and so on. Forget about others, sometimes your own mind goes up and down. So, what to do in such times? Aśvamedha is to be done, purifying the present moment. This means that when your heart is filled with love and compassion, you are so powerful. Never underestimate yourself. Miracles are in abundance! I think everyone has had some miracle or the other. We don’t look for it, they just happen. Ask, and it will be given. Ask and ask with faith. Every moment there is a miracle happening; every moment, there is grace; and there is something new. Even if something appears to be not so good for the moment, in the long run, something good happens.
Here we come settling the dust of philosophies!
To be continued...

Accha lagta hai
part, 4?
read previous oneshot here
"NO! I will not listen to one more word from you. We are going home and you are going to apologize to her. And if i catch you one more time I will-"
"Akhtar, akhtar, akhtar, listen to me. I understand that she has marks but that's not from what you think-"
"I want no excuses"
"you know what? fine. She will tell you herself"
"Don't threaten her!" "She's not even here!"
Akhtar paced in your house with Ram hot on his heels. "Y/n?" Ram called for you and you walked out, noticing the commotion. Akhtar looked at the red and blue marks on your waist, your wrists, around your neck. The slight limp in your walk. Hoarse voice. He shut his eyes, turning away. "Look what you did. How can you possibly justify these?" You saw Akhtar turn to Ram. Ram gaped and looked at you, eyes pleading for help. "What happened?" You asked Akhtar, and a new shade of confusion washed over his face. "What happened?? Bhabhi, you can be as open as much you want. Don't hide anything. If this man even lays a finger on you, I will protect you" Akhtar stood in front of you, looking at Ram holding his head.
"Y/n" You turned to Ram calling for you. "Akhtar thinks I uh, I hurt you" Ram scrunched his face and you looked at Akhtar, with surprise. Akhtar shook his head, when you broke out in a fit of laughter. Ram smiled in background. Akhtar looked at you and then at Ram. "Akhtar bhaiya, I appreciate your concern but, he didn't hurt me in any way." Your cheeks ached from laughter. "Then what about these marks? And your heavy voice?" The confused man turned to the snickering couple. A deep blush took over your cheeks. "Ram will explain you that" you stated and escaped the situation, with Ram caught in the act. He moved forward, tapped Akhtar's shoulders twice, said "get married" and followed you in the room.

Coffee
I think that maybe I'm falling for you
And maybe I'm falling quite hard too
Because when every morning you walk through that door
Everything else suddenly seems like an eyesore
You take your seat by the window and open your book
And as you wait for your coffee i try not to look
You look oh so lovely with the gentle sunlight on your face
Once again I catch myself staring as my heart starts to pace
One day you looked at me and my heart started to flutter
You smiled and waved and there wasn't a word i could utter
The next day you sat next to me, asked if it was okay
How could I have told you that I've been dreaming of this day
That day I learned your favourite drink, your favourite book, your favourite show
That day I learned how much you love Jane Austen and caramel macchiato
You asked me about my favourite song and the answer was clear
Because in my head, you were the only melody i could hear
You asked me my hobby and i said i liked to write
You loved how in words I could capture the beauty of a sight
You asked me to let you see them, with eyes that were sure to beguile
But how could I, when all of them were about your smile?
I'm sure that I'm falling in love with you
I'm sure that I'm falling quite hard too
Because that day I came home and watched your favourite show
Because that day I came home with a caramel macchiato

Mata Lakshmi and Shri Hari are Radha-Krishna at work.
🌸Maa Lakshmi is the magnificent CFO dressed in velvet pantsuits who demands absolute perfection and a clean organized workplace. Notorious for changing companies if it doesn't suit her workplace requirements (She is called Chanchala for a reason).
Radharani is the sweet gf who your big brother Krishna brings home. Your mother mentions about how she is a big-shot professional with an MBA in Finance but the way She disarms your family with Her charming behavior and amazing food has you stunned. She asks you about your studies and social life and you spend hours talking about your brother Krishna and His antics
🦚Shri Hari is the CEO . You see that He is laying casually in His office on His black chair but you know the He knows everything going on in the office. A strict but a kind boss who is ready to help and guide His juniors.
Krishna is your "oh-so-charming yet naughty " sibling. The overachiever of the family who gets away with all the mischief. Brings over His magnificent GF Radha who is no less accomplished than He is. He steals your milkshakes and ice creams and your mother lets Him get away with it. But you wouldn't ask for a better sibling in the entire world
🤡post inspired by author's own experiences. I don't intend to insult or offend any faith

Hii it's @bishh-kanya
How are you doing 🤍
1. what’s your aesthetic?
8. describe your taste in music?
9. who do you love the most in this world?
16. are you religious or spiritual?
17. your favourite book(s)?
For the asks 🤍
hey bunny boo, thanks for the ask!!!
i'm hanging in there, i wrote like 5k words in one day and was gonna complete it the next day but came down with fever symptoms (writer's block doesn't distinguish between physical and mental lol)
anyway how are YOU??
- 1 -
my aesthetic is currently Madhuravani from the movie Mahanati. She's a journalist just unsure of herself but confident in her writing abilities (lol remind you of anyone?) my aesthetic irl is sort of... messy? like i still live with my parents and have to wear my mom's hawaii-like chudidaars so i dont really have space for my own taste(??) but if i had the mental patience and physical space for an aesthetic, i'd say i'd be the baby pink/lavender hued, always in pjs with jhumkas and payal, hair up and stray wisps doing a desi Daphne Bridgerton on my forehead... yeah, also don't forget surrounded by food and always dancing to music
- 8 -
my taste in music... hmm... *pretending this is a celeb interview* i'll say it's erratic and cynical to the new. in the sense, i listen to anything and my brain, without my permission, goes this is the copy of that one song you listened to, it came out in 2005 and you were practically a baby then but you get it. and it turns out to be true. i'm more on the desi (and south) side of the spectrum. i always get into music trends late (like arijit singh was the rave and i liked him.... 5 years after that) but i haven't seen almost any person dissect music the way i tend to do (annoyingly so sometimes). my taste goes like this: - Lata di (duh) - Only some Illayaraja - some arr like lukka chuppi and chaiyya chaiyya - op naiyyar - Camila Cabello - old mani sharma - early shreya - early arijit
- 9 -
i love two people the most in this world.
the person i could be if this wasn't it. maybe some alternate universe where instead of "hamari beti kaise kar sakegi" they'd say "hamari beti kuch bhi kar sakegi".
and the person i will be because this is it. this universe, where they say "hamari beti kaise kar sakegi" and i show them exactly kaise kar sakegi. the person whose means are not that royal but imagination always was.
- 16 -
religious or spiritual?
i think these days my parents and grandparents have confused the both. call me naive, but i consider them both to deal with faith. i'm currently figuring it out like some other things in life. for now i'm leaning towards spiritual.
- 17 -
fav books:
Little Women (Marmie my beloved) by LM Alcott
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Malgudi Days by RK Narayan
Triple Dare by CM Owens (yeah sometimes i have crappy taste)
thanks for the asks again hon💌💌

Saw your indian fashion post , do you mind telling us difference between khol and kajal??
Kohl is surma , made of a stone and is firm and better in texture , whereas kajal can be made in traditional and as well as chemical processes and is a bit messy in texture , haha not much of a difference

@rambheemlove thanks for inspo
You already found your Ram in your life, your husband. The mighty soldier, the soft lover. You loved him dearly, and so did he. But yet there was something lacking, or something that would make your life even better. Ram and you often saw kids in temple playing around, and you couldn't help the feeling of it- of having a chance to grow a world in your hands.
And it wasn't something distant, it was just Ram's career did not have space for a new human and you were unable to carry a child. He didn't love you any less despite that, but a circle of loneliness burned in you. The instinctive motherhood was in vain.
It was the evening of janmashtmi. You stood there in the temple, you hands clasped over your body. You looked small. There was only one prayer in your mind. "Keep my husband happy, krishna ji. Keep him happy and safe". you did the ritual and started leaving the temple, when an intuitive voice in your mind prayed to the lord. "Bless us with a krishna too".
It was around eight when it started raining heavily and you heard that a hospital had been attacked as a riot motive. Your husband was sent to clear it up. You knew he was not coming home anytime soon.
Three hours went by as you sat on the jhoola, reading a book when you heard the familiar motorbike outside- akhtar bhaiya. You opened the door, when Ram, bleeding from his forehead rushed in with Akhtar hot on his heels, and a pile of cloth in his hand?
On a closer look, you saw the smallest baby ever. "Y/N" Ram called for you and you covered the baby in a warm blanket and heated milk.
"Where did you find her?" you asked him when the barely 2 month old baby was fast asleep between piles of pillows on your bed. Akhtar sipped his tea as you treated Ram's injury. "Someone left her in a hospital room after the attack. There was no one around the hospital looking for their child. I suggested taking her home right then but Akhtar decided to wait, he said we shouldn't take someone else's child home. But no one came" Ram said and you looked at Akhtar lost in a thought.
The complete silence broke when you heard a small squeal from your room. Before you could react, Ram was already hurrying inside, tending to her. You smiled softly.
Ram and you both stayed up whole night taking care of her, though you didn't realize when you fell asleep. In the morning, you saw Ram rocking her to sleep, walking in the living room. As soon as he saw you, he smiled and said "Radha".
You already found you ram in life, your husband. But you were more than happy when the god blessed you with your own little radha too.
sita's note- this made me cry. I always wanted to have kids, and to have a little world, but I was told i can't have kids. Even if i do, they would either have down syndrome or a miscarriage. More chances of later. Sorry for the trauma dump dkjfhs but it's just, oh to have a kid <3

Accha lagta hai
@yehsahihai thanks for help
The third loud sigh from the bathroom made you finally get up from the bed and knock on the bathroom door. You heard a slight clang of razor and Ram pulled open the door, annoyance written on his face. You pulled him out in the aangan near the tap. "Baitho" you told him and went in your room again. You grabbed his razor and water mug and appeared back, only to see him standing still. "I said sit" you ordered now and he sighed again, sitting on the stool, careful of his bandaged arm. "Why don't you go to those guys with shaving stall?" Ram looked up to see you wrapping your saree pallu around your waist and tucked in your plates, and then tying your plait in a bun. The strands flew out untamed and he wished how lucky were they, adorning your face. "They ask too much money" Ram vaguely replied and you sat down on the flipped bucket. "Face up" you ordered and Ram tilted his head up. "good boy" you muttered and earned scrunched eyebrows from him. You smiled to yourself. Throughout the process you had to order Ram around because he wouldn't do it when asked once. To jut out his chin, or poke his cheek, or lower his head. There was a prominent pout on his face. "You don't have to treat me like a kid you know" Ram muttered when you washed the razor in the mug. "Maybe you are a kid" you said and went to shave the shape of his moustache when he held your hand from his left one. "Kids don't get leaves from work for getting shot in their arm. Adults do. I Am An Adult Man. " Ram peered in your eyes. You swatted his hand away and pulled his face closer from his collar. "Adults don't prove they are adults like this" you muttered while perfectly shaving his cheek. The glinting smile in his eyes outshone the irritated face of Ram.
"Ram Anna!" A roaring call from outside pulled you two of your trance. "Akhtar is here, I have to go" Ram started to get up in a hurry when you pulled him down. "Let me at least wipe your face first!" You called out to the child waiting for his batting for an hour. You wiped Ram's face clean and put on his aftershave, quickly on his demand so he could leave. As he was about to step out of threshold, you called for him one last time. "Don't stay out too late. You're hard to trust now- what if you come back with a broken leg next time" your scolding fainted as you made your way to the kitchen, totally missing Ram's small smile on face and butterflies in heart.

it's 4:30 am, I was suppose to study for today's entrance test. But hey, also maybe Im high?
Tera aadi ho gaya
ram x reader (sfw)
summary- where your husbands holds you so tightly you decide to stay there if it meant forever.
Ram returned home soaked and drained last night, the rain did nothing but flush out his left over energy too after work. You sat him down on the wooden spare bed in your verandah, and rubbed his hair dry. Ram was awfully quiet- his eyes drooping, body weak, power shutting down. He looked tired, sick. He skipped dinner, and straight up fell asleep when he came out of bath.
You shut the lights too, pulling a blanket on both of you. The heavy rain made the early morning so cold it was hard to figure out if you were still in August or beginning of December. You pulled the sheets close, the cold waking you up. It was around 5 in the morning and you still had an hour of sweet sleep before waking up with the world. Though you could hear the neighborhood noises, the world was in hurry.
When you looked at your side, your husband was laying in a fetal position, his eyebrows furrowed. He might be having a bad dream, you thought, and slowly caressed his hair. The soft rhythm lulled you back to sleep.
You woke up to the sound of the milkmaid outside. She called your name, asking you to take your milk for day. You rose to consciousness, trying to get up- only to find Ram stuck to you. And the way he was laying, it was as if your body was his only cover.
Ram's face was pushed in your neck just above your chest, his arms creating a death grip around your waist, his torso glued to yours. You ran your hand through his hair, trying to get him away, but it did nothing. You tried to pull away, hearing milkmaid's last call, but Ram just wouldn't budge. When you tried to push his body away by his shoulders, he pulled you closer, nuzzling more in your body with a shiver.
You gaped at him, wondering how the hell will you get up now. You will get mad at me if we won't have milk, Ram! you thought. When you finally heard the maid go away, you sighed. You tried to pull away again, but Ram pulled you close, again, adjusting his grip tighter, blabbering in his sleep. What was with him today?
You had enough when you missed the flower vendor too. Ram was using his actual full force to keep you on bed now. It was slowly becoming a struggle. You grabbed his hand by your waist, and lifted his hand up- smiling at how that worked- and as you were just about to slip out of his gravity, his unconscious words froze all your movements.
"Nahi, maa"
You let out a gasp, the callings of the world slowly blurring in your ear, fading away. Ram told you about his trauma, his promise, his life. You knew that the nightmares still lingered in his memory, and you wanted to be of help to him, to make his mind feel ease.
And when you realized your presence made him feel so safe, so protected from the world, you couldn't help but get emotional. He thought of your comfort as his mother's subconsciously. You stared at Ram, his eyebrows furrowed again. Oh, how could you do this to him? You wordlessly kept his hand back, sliding closer to his body and peppering his forehead with kisses. Your hands found their way in his hair, as he adjusted his grip on you again.
The whole world could wait, but you wouldn't miss this for anything.
Bonus- "Y/N" Ram called out for your name, as you made your way to the kitchen where he was. "What" you asked. "You didn't take the milk today?" he asked and you gaped, ready to fight him. He was the reason you missed it, but you thought against it, muttering a sorry. "I was sleeping, it was too cold" you said, and Ram walked out of kitchen. He didn't have to know.

radha pt 2
read first part here
"RAM" you heard your daughter scream from the verandah with a huge laughter following up. Your three year old never called him baba, even though she never stopped calling you maa. "Maa, I'm hurt" "Maa, Ram called for you" "Maa, baarish dekho" "Maa, I want melon" "Maa, is Ram hurt?" "Maa, Ram said we will go out"
Radha knew you were her maa and Ram was her baba, but dare she called him that. Ram was annoyed at first when she started speaking, and it was the most adorable thing you could notice. He would hold up the child and recite B-A-B-A just so she could catch it. You remembered when Radha's baby hands would tug Ram's moustaches or pull Bheem's hair.
It was a difficult time for both of you when Ram was captured, you believed that Ram would never see the face of his dearest daughter again. But alas, was your husband so easy to kill?
Life was even better after coming to Ram's village.
"Ram, de na!" Radha asked for the lassi you made for Ram, his moustaches white from curd. You laughed at Radha's exclamation, clutching your sides. Ram hanged his head down, smiling. "Tum hi sikha rahi ho yeh sab usse" Ram said, grabbing Radha's chubby hands and pulling her close. "I am not teaching her anything!" you smacked Ram's arm lightly. In response, Radha smacked Ram's arm too, shocking you. "Dekha!" Ram exclaimed this time, and you pulled Radha in your lap.
"Say sorry baba" you asked radha, whose eyes were still on the earthen glass of lassi. "Sorry baba" Radha said and Ram spit his lassi out.
You stared at Radha, and caught Ram's expression in time too. "Say it again!" you held Radha close, Ram's attention only on Radha's voice and words. "Ba-" before Radha could say, a roaring call of Bheem took away the golden moment.
"Anna, come let's go for a swim" he said, taking the lassi from Ram with a huge beam. You knew that Bheem is going to drown if Ram went with him- it was clearly evident in Ram's eyes. "Bheem! I want to go to Seeta ma's house" Radha said and held onto bheem's hand. Good thing Radha took bheem away or Ram would have made sure that Bheem never made it out after the swim. From the distance you could make out Radha taking the glass of lassi from bheem. You turned to your sulking husband, ripped off his right, funnily though.
You kept a condoling hand on his shoulders, trying to comfort him. "It's okay" you were barely holding your laughter. He turned to you. "It's funny right?" he asked and you couldn't even try to hold yourself back. You doubled over his arm, nodding in yes. Ram's fingers immediately found your stomach, making you laugh even more with his tickle attack.
"Bas! RAMA BAS!" You screamed through tears from all the aching in your stomach. He sat up back in his place again and so did you, leaning on his side tired. "Besides" you muttered close to his ear. "I call you baba anyways, in english though" Ram turned to you confused, as you smiled mischievously. When Ram's lightbulb lit up, he gaped, and left you shaking his head with a smile.
