MY TAVS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMPANIONS
Dreuer
Tumblr media
Shadowheart - initially she irritated him. Her haughty demeanour and unsubtle cultist vibes pissed him off. But naturally, he has sympathy with anyone subjugated by an unjust god (even when he wasn’t entirely sure why he felt that way), and when she confessed to being a Sharran he softened up.
She teases him more often than he teases her but he’s not immune to standing behind yer and doing an impression of her while she’s talking. Deadpan of course. And he will deny all knowledge of doing so should she turn around and challenge him.
Despite being older by almost a decade, she has almost a big sister or even maternal attitude towards him. He is a very sensitive man prone to getting himself in Situations, and she has gotten very used to patching up his old ass.
Astarion - Hated him. To the point where he genuinely tried to stake him through the heart. His arrogance and attitude were like sandpaper on skin, and Dreuer despised him.
As more of Astarion’s past was revealed, Dreuer became defensive. Still largely rude and argumentative towards one another, Dreuer slowly built up a hatred towards anyone who wanted to hurt this actual sad wet cat boy.
I think the penny dropped for Astarion when Dreuer stood up for him against Raphael in Act 2, and wasted no time and asked no questions in the hunt for Cazador.
Astarion is his asshole baby brother and if you hurt that vampire, be prepared to get fucked on by the wrath of Bhaal.
Gale - He had him at “unwelcome insertion in the occular region”. Dreuer didn’t actually understand that what he was feeling was a big stupid schoolgirl crush until it was painfully obvious, but it was there from the start.
Things were obviously slower for Gale. I mean, he was going through his own post breakup trauma, he had a lot to unpack.
Basically for a long time they annoyed everyone by being so obviously and clearly in love and yet so totally oblivious that there was a betting pool going to see how long it would take them to figure it out.
Their love language is bickering over obscure topics and being very gentle with each other because dear god they both deserve some kind, romantic love.
Lae’zel - Dreuer was largely ambivalent to his githyanki friend at first. She was a soldier doing what soldiers do.
He slept with her in act 1 when he was trying to figure out what sort of person he was, but realised very quickly that he is absolutely not the hookup kind of guy.
Their relationship turned slightly competitive, killing counts exchanged between them and occasional night time ambushes going on so that each of them could prove they were better than the other.
Gale found this very very annoying.
He misses her while she fights in the astral plane, and any note from her is treated with love and care.
Wyll - this boy is smol. A fellow warlock, a sweet baby. That’s Dreuer’s son. He’s what, four years old? Pick your sword up kid, it’s sparring time.
Dreuer, while thinking Wyll’s gallantry is admirable, doesn’t really think it’s worth it. He usually plays along though because for the love of god Wyll needs a father figure who is proud of him.
They have taught one another a lot, and will continue to do so.
Karlach - if Wyll is his adoptive son, Karlach is his daughter. As big and scary as she is he sees her sensitive side, her enthusiasm, her joy and her vivacity as things to be treasured (and envies her for them, slightly).
I’m fairly sure if Wyll hadn’t gone to Acernus with her, Dreuer would have left Gale waiting in Waterdeep to travel with and protect her. His own desires would be secondary to keeping her safe.
Halsin - a fellow old soul, an important friend and confidante. Halsin is a force of nature and Dreuer respects that greatly. It was healing for Dreuer to see people like Halsin and Karlach being such ferocious creatures while still harbouring a sensitivity and kindness.
It gave him hope.
Jaheira - excuse me that’s his mother. He is her little cub. Her Bhaalspawn son.
If there is one thing Dreuer is in desperate need of, it’s a parental figure to reassure him and support him. Someone to keep him on the right path when he’s on the road to doing some deranged shit (because we can’t trust Gale, he’s probably into that deranged shit).
There is undoubtedly no one Dreuer trusts more than Jaheira.
Minsc and Boo - … yes. They are also here.
He likes Minsc and Boo but… he can’t really vibe with them. So their relationship was very “acquaintances and then, goodbye to you.”

I know it’s just a games mechanic thing but I’m kind of obsessed with the idea of the potential learning curve astarion had to do being thrust out into the wilderness and actually fighting for his life every single day after 2 centuries of stalking shadows and mostly using charm to keep himself safe and alive. picking up a bow for the first time in centuries and it’s awkward, unwieldy at first, but the muscle memory slowly returns to him as he uses it more and more—and so does the question of, did he learn to use this while he was mortal? did he enjoy it? it feels familiar, like a long passed hobby he might’ve once had. or having to quickly adapt to using two daggers for actual combat rather than the one he might have kept on him just in case an alley interaction turned sour. astarion having to learn how to fight in a group, when he’s always been deeply, deeply alone in the shadows before. slowly adapting to watching karlach’s back, picking off enemies from the side as they group around her, or picking off an enemy that was creeping up on wyll with a trick shot from a distance. like there’s no way he did any of these things back in baldurs gate, and it’s a special kind of thrill to accumulate new skills, work skills he barely remembers even having, or finding new ways to utilize talents that once would’ve served cazador but now he uses them to save his own life, and occasionally protect his …. friends … with only mild complaining. something makes me crazy about astarion being forced to use his body for centuries to lure people back with his attractiveness and middling charm and NOW he can turn his body into something strong, a weapon that belongs only to him, reclaim autonomy through the ways he chooses to fight and develop skills and abilities cazador never would’ve wanted him to have

Shadowheart: Lae'zel, in your opinion, what is the height of stupidity?
Lae'zel: I don't know, Shadowheart. How tall are you?

Feeling very insane about the fact that, in a way, being a bad Sharran is what saves Shadowheart in the end
Because like. She's not supposed to be bad at keeping secrets. She's not supposed to be vulnerable, kind, or hopeful. She's not supposed to get attached to anything or anyone
Yet, it's these things that allow her to get close to the pc and the group as a whole. The more she fails to keep Shar's secrets the more she opens up to you, and the more she opens up to you the more you have the chance to build a relationship with her, and it's through having that relationship that she finds the courage to defy Shar
If she had been a better Sharran she never would have built that bond at all, she wouldn't have felt safe to make the decision she did, and probably no one would have trusted her enough to let her decide to begin with
Shadowheart is saved because she is loved, and Shadowheart is loved because she cannot stop being herself no matter how hard she tries

I do wish if you played as Origin!Wyll you can start romances with the sex heavy romances without sex at the start (Astarion/Lae'zel/maybe Halsin but I don't count his romance because of how short and how late it starts). Like his origin story would be interesting for him to still have that romantic inkling that carried his own companion romance within the character choices as an origin.
And it can be done. They did it for Karlach (who's burning up and literally burning up and literally doesn't sleep with anyone until the engine is somewhat cooled). Wyll has no infernal engine burning but he has boundaries and what he feels comfortable with. And I would like that in his characterisation in his origin story.
Sure you're playing an origin of the companion, you the player have every right to have Wyll go right into the sex before romance (we can make headcanons for why wyll would, maybe Astarion/Lae'zel rolled a nat 20 in seduction), but it would be a neat call back to his own romance to have an option to go slow and woo them with a mention of a dance (probably not with the cutscene of the dance but allude to it in conversation).
It would be a nice to roleplay wyll as actually the sweet prince charming with the devil on his back (and horns on his forehead).

these are unfinished i'm just posting them to give myself permission to be more obnoxious about my bg3 ocs on main
#baldurs gate 3#bg3 spoilers#oc: memento#<- not their name. an out-of-universe nickname. i make things very confusing for myself#the scratched out text above 'the dark urge' is robin fairbairn - the name given to them by their foster family#oc: impulse#oc: luc sauveterre#uhhh what are my notes. aberrant mind sorc doesnt exist in-game or as a mod but it's impulse's canon in my heart#i also havent actually played them as that rogue multiclass yet... 2 bonus actions + the awakened buff will be Fucking Busted i think#as for lae'zel being listed as their bestie: she was the first to make it to 100 approval. trying hard to make that make sense#luc is a brand new character i made him like 2 or 3 days ago. he's a painfully earnest wife guy. going for squidlach with him#not picturing but still existing: my evil durge my wyllmancer and my vague laezelmancer#pictured*#is that it. i think thats it. idk if the volume of oc posting will actually increase#i would reblog the tav-as-companion ask meme but theyre all so wrapped up in their respective bits of the main story/romances. i wouldnt be#able to answer most of the questions#it's not like i can reblog shippy ask memes either. mementostarion is on a one-track road to a messy divorce#impulse's relationship is.................#let's leave it at that. luc & karlach are normal and healthy and cute but it does end with one of them a mind flayer so#(impulse also ends up a mind flayer for the record)#siiiighs. just gotta start reblogging things to fill their tags with. and maybe go take a nap

spoilers for bg3 dark urge playthrough
i have a hc in my second durge run that my durge was initially orin's mentor. because she's sarevok's granddaughter, she's technically the dark urge's grand-niece, right? and knowing that the dark urge was a prolific serial killer in baldur's gate, i imagine my durge as having passed their skills on to orin. he taught her to carve flesh from bone with a delicate yet cruel hand. and when the time came for orin to betray him, to make a mess of his brain and to subject him to his own evil plot, i imagine my durge as maybe even being a little proud. the sting of being usurped was made sweeter by the knowledge that he trained the hand that twisted the knife and puppeted his sinews. to be so viscously torn apart was in and of itself holy, a beautiful, bloody, miserable act of devotion. because that's how both he and orin were raised--they were born to become vessels of suffering, living to die.
which makes it all the more confusing for orin when he returns and is different. when he's less fun to toy with, less delighted by the agony she puts him through. when she steals his friends or leaves nauseating carrion in her wake for him to uncover, he shows no masochistic joy. instead only fear. and normally she likes fear, but it's wrong on his face. she used to be seen as his inferior, and yet it took only the rearranging of a little grey matter to make him a pathetic, sentimental, weepy mess than clings to idealism and fragile new friends? what evil could bhaal have mistakenly seen in him to make him his chosen?
but his great evil never negated his simultaneous capacity for great good. she doesn't know that in undoing him, she allowed him to be reborn. that he has known love and has been changed for it. and she will never understand why, as he steps foot into the temple of bhaal and drives his blade through her heart upon their foul god's altar, there is no joy taken in the act of ending her life. the expression on his face is not one of malevolence, but one of pity.

Cuz someone asked it in general online and it's now on my brain if anyone is interested (either for general curiosity or fic writing purposes) my tactician mode run is maybe about 2.5 weeks of in game time (likely a little longer since I'm going off my notes doc)
So my guess is the average time the party takes is somewhere around a month to fuck over the dead 3
