Hey 👋🏼 I’m Jesse! I’m an artist and an art appreciator. My best friend and I went to Watkins Glen High School together then went our separate ways for college; Jennie studied English and I studied Fashion. About 15 years ago we both moved back to the Finger Lakes and 5 years ago we opened a Gift Shop and Gallery together called @hectorhandmade. We’re Bestiepreneurs! This special little shop is just down the road from @rastaranchvineyards, the farm winery where I grew up that my family runs and walking distance from our own homes. At Hector Handmade we exclusively feature locally made art and gifts from within a 30 mile radius of the shop. We range from representing 30-50 local artists, ourselves included. The way I hope and dream and feel about my home is depicted in the piece of art I’m holding: “Peace Grapes”. It’s been printed on Organic Cotton Ts and onesies for many years and is now available at the shop and on my website as a small piece of art on durable chipboard. It features a grape vine peace sign and the roots are the interconnected Finger Lakes. It’s been 5 weird and utterly wonderful years of running a retail business, and having @jennie_scarbrough by my side all the way has been the sweetest gift of it all! Tomorrow, Sunday June 26th from 4-7 we are having a big 5th Anniversary Party at Hector Handmade and we would love to see you there if you’re lucky enough to be in the Finger Lakes! We kicked things off with a quick visit to co-owner @themisandthread’s mom at @rastaranchvineyards for a bottle of sparkling wine and right at noon the shop filled up with kids, friends, fun and joy! We wrapped so many gifts, and even received some ourselves! Yesterday I visited the #NewYorkStateCapitol Building for a rally and press conference in #TheWarRoom and to deliver a petition to the governor. Experience art. It is vital. @vangogh.experience at @vangoghbuffalo last week with my bestie @jennie_scarbrough was a boss babe trip before @hectorhandmade kicks into super high gear for the holidays and it was an incredible reset and rest and amazing overall experience and trip. I’m an artist, designer, stylist, entrepreneur, gallery and gift shop owner; I’m also an over thinker, highly sensitive, anxious, dyslexic and scatterbrained. A time out and trip with my best friend was an amazing opportunity to unplug. We’re all walking around like keeping a home is easy and like we didn’t just break a tooth last night after brushing and flossing (truth 😬) but we all struggle and lead double lives and pick and chose our battles. One of the ways I cope is with Fashion Therapy - helping myself feel comfortable and look great with fashion absolutely boosts my confidence and elevates my mood. Excelling in university (Fashion Design major 👋🏽), honing in my expertise with Custom Fashion Design, and striving to express my talents as creatively as possible has led me to this moment. In the spirit of #GivingTuesday we wanted to make a donation to a local cause and the #MusicFestival #CulturalEvent that is @fingerlakesgrassrootsfest seemed perfect especially because today also happens to be #WorldAIDSday and this #ArtsEvent was created to raise money for #AIDSresearch. #GrassRoots has inspired and cultivated the #FingerLakes #ArtsCommunity and has given so many people so much hope and joy. It’s so important to #bestiepreneurs @themisandthread and @jennie_scarbrough that we shut Hector Handmade down to head to what’s usually our favorite weekend of the year! We’ve both learned a lot from our GrassRoots family and lifestyle and that seeps into all that we do. We were so proud this year to #SupportLocalArt/sits who also wanted to #fundraise for important causes. Our Featured Artists @peggy0406 and #CynthiaCowleyFolkins filled our #gallery with #SenecaLake inspired art to benefit #SenecaLakeGuardian and the #HectorFoodPantry. Both #ArtShowFundraisers provided close to $1,000 to each of those worthy not-for-profits both constantly in need.
