Remember how Griffith immediately told Guts he wants him and Guts was like are you gay and Griffith was just like "..." and then Guts was like ok if you beat me in a fight you can have me as whatever you want including sexually, and then Casca was like wtf Griffith NEVER says he wants anybody like that, and then Griffith won and says Guts belongs to him now and then repeatedly risks everything he has ever worked for to save Guts' life, and then Guts tells all his pals that literally all he cares about is if Griffith pays attention to him and likes him, and even though he has sex with a hot girl he is still like nah I still care more about Griffith tho, and then was so into Griffith that he left him so that he could eventually become more appealing in Griffith's eyes because he thought Griffith looked down on him, then Griffith tried to fight him again and was like if I can't have him nobody can and went and lost and then ran off and had sex with the princess to numb the pain and got caught and tortured over it, meanwhile the whole time was holding onto Guts in his mind as the only thing he cared about still worth staying alive for, then once he got rescued by Guts and decided to go full evil and sacrifice it all he tried to use Casca horribly against Guts and then Guts dragged her on an epic journey to find healing, meanwhile thinking to himself "isn't this obsession of yours because she represents the wound Griffith left you and keeps you bound to him and longing for him," and as soon as he sees him again he forgets his urge to kill him and Griffith's frozen heart starts beating again watching Guts fight, and whenever Guts gets asked about Griffith after finally reaching Elfhelm he gets shy about it then talks about him and his amazingness like he's the world's proudest mom, and clearly is still obsessed with trying to prove himself an equal to Griffith

And NONE of this is subtext btw it's just blatantly written to say all of this right in the text...

hello berserk fandom this is my first time trying something like this and i cant figure out shading and digital art for the life of me sooooo

gotta respect berserk for being a perfectly grounded medievalish setting with few to no supernatural elements (mostly just one encounter that caused the main characters to go "hm. that guy just sprouted bat wings and flew away. weird. anyways") for the first 21 episodes, and then in the 22nd and 23rd episodes abruptly having a bazillion demons arrive from hell to horribly kill and devour most of the characters. bold narrative choice

Will Guts ever surrender to his inner demon?

With the advent of Guts and his party seized by Kushans, I don't believe Guts will go down this path.

Guts, the slayer of Apostles, human to the core. What purpose would it serve to surrender his humanity, sacrifice his remaining comrades, and face Griffith as an inhuman?

That is the one defining narrative between the two. Griffith, who when faced with despair, rejected his humanity. Guts, who faces nothing but despair nearly every day, continues to tread down the same path.

Griffith, fated to posses the Egg of the King, ended up becoming part of the Godhand. Guts, fated to die, lives.

They are opposites. Guts cannot become an Apostle as it will make him the same as Griffith.

Sure, Guts is certainly at his lowest point.

But he's not completely powerless. It took this many men just to drag him out of the ship's hold.

Elfhelm is gone. Guts and Casca's life of peace was not fated to last long.

The Kushans are also Griffith's enemy, and the most powerful ones at that. This is Guts and his friends' best shot at defeating Griffith, even if they were taken by force.

Plus, General Daiba is pretty chill now. It'll be fine.

Get your strength back, Guts. You're not done fighting.

The thing I respect most about Griffith Berserk is actually how ridiculously unsubtle with his hitting on Guts he is. Just IMMEDIATELY going up to him and literally grabs his face like "I realized I WANT you, now let me tell you exactly why." Like this isn't your typical suggestive homoerotic innuendo, this is just what he actually says. To the point Guts is just like, oh you mean like, in a gay way? And Griffith's just like... "*gay silence*" like idk you certainly can't blame the frustrating star-crossed lovers mutual piningness of their relationship on him being a bit too ambiguous about things or too cowardly to shoot his shot lol

what if griffith can't die without the boy dying. how will they sever the connection between griffith and their son. can the connection even be severed atp. on full moon nights, griffith dreams he's a child and is filled with nostalgia. the boy appears during the full moon to see casca (and guts, but mostly casca). does this imply the boy is able to break away from griffith on those nights. or is the boy and griffith one and the same now. the elf king said the boy was completely innocent, there wasn't a hint of malice about him.
