What it is about kind male video game companions that male gamers absolutely HATE?
I've seen it happen with Dragon Age's Alistair, Mass Effect's Kaidan, and even lowkey KOTOR's Carth Onasi (emphasis on kind, not necessarily nice, cause dude had a bit of an attitude in the beginnning). Now I'm seeing it with Gale of Waterdeep from Baldur's Gate 3.
Men hate him! Admittedly, many women seem to also hate Gale (Though from what I'm observing, it seems to be because his romance is bugged in a way that doesn't recognize when you've rejected him, so to many it comes off as not taking no for an answer -- but that's the fault of the game, not the character). The other reason I'm seeing from women is that he supposedly doesn't respect boundaries, citing his relationship with Mystra, but... were yall listening to him at all?
1. This goddess took interest in him as a *child* prodigy, became his mentor, and then his lover??? That's sus as hell.
2. It's not like he and Mystra had personal boundaries set specifically for their relationship, and he decided to cross them, it was that Mystra has general magical limitations for magic users in general, and Gale thought he would be an exception because she treated him as special, and because his reasons for pushing his magical limitations were to restore a part of her she'd lost. I've also seen people say he downplays that as a simple mistake made in his youth, but from the actual conversation with him, it's very clear he regrets that so?? I don't get it. (maybe I'm misremembering or missing more of the story, I'm only at the beginning of Act 2)
But this post is a reaction-rant to seeing too many male creators on tiktok hate on Gale so badly it's becoming obnoxious. And their reasons are so weak, yet fuel hatred so strong. They just find him so annoying, and I guess to each their own, but I don't get why, and I don't get why men always seem to find those kinds of emotionally available, kind for the sake of being kind, male characters annoying.

For anyone wondering: we never did find the seed for the Limited Life server. But we're all a bit insane, so with a bit of time and dedication, and the combined efforts of Pixie, Lyric, and team member Lavi, we managed to recreate a large portion of the map almost block-for-block. It made for one heck of a finale closer, and we had a blast putting this together!
...we almost might just be insane enough to try and expand this project out to the other known areas of the map, just for fun...but that's a project for another day. :3
Time elapsed while working on this: over 24 hours in total

Btw I can't believe all the Hamilton edits with Hamilton the musical, especially to Wait for it but when they're done with Carlos
Like girl be fr if someone is his Burr that's not Carlos that's Nico fucking Rosberg, he owned that role
Carlos and Lewis have had beef for a month because Vasseur gave Lewis Carlos's job, you want bitter soul crushing rivalry that's been destroying another guy's life step by step, that's been booked by Britney since day one

swapping between watching etho s7 and bdubs s5 is going to do permanent damage to my brain
nearly forgot! i'm trying to remember to turn on timelapse recording more often, so while it's just a sketch page, there's a timelapse of the first pic if you're interested ^-^ (flashing img warning, but no colors/palette testing so not as bad as usual? probably.)
once again i forget to start recording until i've already started but nevermind that not super interesting given it's a sketch page but i know some of yall just think the process is neat :)

guys i know we're all focused on the quite literal things that are in the water this season. but what - and I mean, the fuck - is in the metaphorical AND literal water for Iskall and Beef in particular???? what is wrong with either of them (affectionate). both as individuals and when in contact with one another. cannot get enough of their episodes currently
losing it at both their POVs. their interactions have been some of my favorite things ever actually. big salmon is watching btw

Must you betray me with a kiss?
Tumblr media
I love how I have a list of things I wanna draw (including one that I actually need to draw for a school assignment) and I completely dropped all of them to work on this, I’m so cool y’all 🤠👍🏽
Before you ask, yes, this was inspired by Judas’ betrayal of Jesus because Ryan and the Professor genuinely remind me of them for some reason and The Kiss by Gustav Klimt because. I don’t have an excuse I just wanted to base my drawing off it–
Lowkey proud of myself for the rendering! It was a pain to get through, and for a moment, I genuinely couldn’t tell if Ryan looked like Ryan or not, but you know what they say, trust the process!!
I hope y’all will have an awesome New Year’s and an awesome 2024 by the way :D
Click below for a filterless version, a WIP and two reactions from my friends ‘cause they’re the funniest people on the planet (shoutout to @couchpotato1206 for making the last image btw)

Listen, I can write a whole thing on why I'm starting to resent the whole "evil pedo Mori" trope and it very much is that whole "banality of evil" thing where it's just not interesting, but it's also that by doing that, you inherently take away any and all complexity present in the character in the first place.
Lemme tell you about The Last of Us episode 8, ok? Spoilers I guess.
I don't care about David.
I don't care about his character, I don't care about his philosophy, I don't care about any question the situation might have posed about canibalism or survival or community that he presents. Why? Because he is evil. Because in the series he is shown to abuse and exploit members of his own community. Because he is a child predator, and because of what he did to Ellie, I stop caring about him as a character and start seeing him as a vehicle of evil for Ellie to overcome. Which is his role, his function in the story and it's what TLOU needed at that moment.
But everything I've listed about David is what people like to give Mori in fanon and I hate it. Because Mori is meant to raise questions. He is meant to be a complex character. He's not just there to be an antagonistic force for the other characters to overcome, he's meant to be a character in his own right who sure does a lot of evil, but there is a difference between a character who does evil and an evil character.
Not every character needs complexity, but to see complexity get taken away by derivative works is like. You're not just character asassinating Mori, but pretty much every other character that is influenced by him. If Mori is Evil and was known to abuse children, why the hell did Natsume pick him to help with his plan for Yokohama? Why did Fukuzawa partner with him? Why does Yosano have mixed feelings about him in the current arc? Why would Kouyou or Chuuya or any other PM member we see as sympathetic choose to follow him? And if the answer to all of this is "they didn't know" then what is the point of doing this trope in the first place?

Imagine you’re an archeologist in the future going through these ancient civilisations and trying to discover the history of Pro-Heroes who fought AFO and saved the world centuries ago. Paving the way for new generations and civilisations to continue on, and build over the megaliths and ruins of the old city of Musutafu.
Most people think it’s just stories that people share with their kids about how Pro-Hero Deku and Dynamight saved the world and became the worlds greatest heroes, a fun myth that weaves into the real history. But you believe it to be true, and that’s why you’re currently excavating in some of the forgotten ruins of Musutafu.
But what you don’t expect is to find the marked grave of the once powerful hero Dynamight, who was nothing more than a story until you were in front of his epitaph. And as you read the inscription seared into the wall, you definitely don’t expect him to wake up—
