*kills you with my polysho*
anyways. i think polysho the type of people to play dnd but evil. like every session they change the dungeon master and it's wacky bc you'll go from "we need to save the princess !!" [tsukasa's turn to DM] to "the princess is the evil mastermind. robots !!!" [emu's turn to DM]
they're the type of people who have like a closet just fucking FILLED with board games because of course they do. and all the games are fucking ancient half of them have missing pieces that are replaced with. the weirdest shit. emu and rui made their own candyland board after the old one just fell apart and it's 10x harder than normal candycrush because it covers the entire dining table. it is at least 3ft across and there's several new mechanics added.
and they have game night one night, yknow probably invite like mizuki akito and saki and the three of them are fucking horrified. because these people have made up rules that are so sick and convoluted that nobody else can understand them !!! and saki's like "oh, you guys have like chess right ??? tsukasa knows how to play and so do i !!!"
and they bring out chess but it is Not Chess. it is an evil combination of chess, checkers, yahtzee, turn-based card game, and clue. and tsukasa shows how he and rui play (because of course they play chess). and then wxs is never allowed to host game night again :skull:

Considering the other post/ask about the new comission sounding like its from descendants. Which characters would be who? Like I feel like Tsukasa would be Ben maybe
God I haven’t watched this film in years but I’ll give this a shot. It’s hard to match them up honestly. Like there’s not a huge amount of similarities between the casts of both franchises, or at least from what I remember of it. I just based this off the first film bc I barely remember the 2nd and 3rd. Also I didn’t take the fact that the film has romance (sub)plots into account lol.
Uh I think Mizuki could work as Evie. Fashionista who makes her own clothes, pretty smart and the most girly one of the group.
Carlos is the smart tech guy which obviously is a Rui thing but other than that they are not really similar from what I remember.
All I remember of Jay is that he was sporty and liked to work alone pre-character development, which is similar to Akito actually. Ignoring the fact that Jay flirted with girls a lot from what I remember which is something Akito definitely doesn't do.
I struggled with Mal because I don't really remember much about her despite her being the main character. I remember she wanted to prove she could be evil to her mother and then fell in love with Ben and became a good guy somewhere along the line, and I don't remember much else. Mafuyu? Just going off the whole doing what her mother wants and then making her own decisions plot.
Audrey as well because she's too mean for any of the prsk characters. Also iirc a lot of her arc was built off her being pissed at getting dumped and I have no idea how you'd write that in here.
I don't remember Ben having much personality outside being nice and being the love interest so I'm gonna let you keep the Tsukasa casting because he has the king card.
And Jane is the only other character I remember and I guess Kohane could work for her? Iirc Jane was the plain normal girl who wanted to be pretty and special and Kohane was the plain normal girl who wanted to be able to do something she could be passionate about so at least the first part is the same.
This is a mess I tried I hope this is okay anon

oookkay okay but. touya becoming some sort of fucked up and evil knight slayer who was one the former prince but suddenly disappeared one day a few years ago. his best friend is nene whos this evil fucked up dragon girl too. rui is also here and feeding into touya and nenes fucked up and evil powers bc yeah. yeah. corruption lets gooo or smth like that. rui is also fucked up and evil yes. and he drew their powers from their darkest and most negative emotions and unleashed them. woag.
anyways on the other side akito has been searching for the missing prince (touya) bc this is someone very important to him. hes positive touya is still out there despite tsukasa and amia having lost hope a while back. akito is abs determined to find him no matter the cost. he is then joined by emu - a mysterious girl with magical powers whos also in search of someone important to her too. she thinks if they have the same goal they should work together. akito begs to differ but reluctantly lets her join. so this rag tag team travel together now.
guh. the fateful encounters and exchanges between akiemu and touyanene are what get me. wahoo [explodes]

ily i wanna hear about collar x malice.. mayeb more about kazuki but you didnt hear that from me
OH MY GOD FAE ILYSM RN okko so quick summary of teh prologue !! basically uu r this rookie police officer in the city of shinjuku which is under quarantine bc of a terrorist organization known as "adonis" who claim to want to purify japan and rid it of evil by killing those they deem unjust. one day uu basically get jumped by one of their members ( who it is unknown until the true ending of the game ) nd they put this collar on uu that monitors your actions and can poison uu shld uu do anything to thwart their plans :thumbs up emoji: then five hot guys come to help uu yadayadayada romance :silly:
ANWYAYS !! kazuki is the mcs emo and mean little brother /aff his dream is to be a musician which is super supported by his best friend ( akito !! whos also a rlly good composer ) ADN HONESTLY THEIR RELATIONSHIP MAKES ME REALLY REALLY SAD . . . bc spoilers but akito is a part of adonis so in most of the endings he has to be imprisoned . . . also this is going to sound completely out of place but adonis members have these little microchips implanted in them so that the higher ups in the organization can erase their memories . . . and so akito loses his memories of his friendship with kazuki in takerus good ending and they have this whole heart to heart talk in those rooms. yk where they talk to criminals ( I FORGOT WHAT THEYRE CALLED ) where kazuki has this whole gay monologue abt how even if akito forgot they can just become friends again and that he wldn't play any music that akito didnt write even if it meant being looked down on for being associated w a criminal and YEAH SOBS

I’m so upset that Akito didn’t become Evil Trigger considering- They set up he was jealous of Kengo being Ultraman while he wasn’t, he desperately wanted to become Ultraman, he was brilliant scientist like evil Tiga’s host, and generally he didn’t like Kengo until way later in the show….Would’ve made more since than Ignis.
see I never liked the idea of Akito becoming Ultraman bc I thought it was pretty clear his arc was about realising he didn't need to be Ultraman and that he has his own thing he can do and that he shouldn't be reaching for power for power's sake

this was a private blog at first but now i made it public. i follow from a certain kikyo-themed blog. i made this blog to contain all ship/fiction discourse stuff, my main is mainly aesthetic reblogs with the occasional reblog about media literacy and fandom etiquette. I'm a peacefic ex-anti blogger. I am against callout culture, kinkshaming/sex-negativity, pedojacketing, censorship, and harassment of anyone, especially death threats. in addition to being peacefic, i am also a fujoshi and himejoshi (see this site for more info) See under the cut for my interests
Some stuff I like: OHSHC, Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, Scott Pilgrim, DDLC, Hazbin Hotel, Steven Universe, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Chainsaw Man, BrBa/BCS, Death Note, Moral Orel, Evangelion, Madoka, ATLA, slashers
"Problematic" faves: Kyoya Ootori, Akito Sohma, Scott Pilgrim, Monika, the entire cast of Hazbin Hotel, Lapis Lazuli, Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond, all of the diamonds actually, Ryoga Hibiki, Sesshomaru, Kikyo, Makima, Clay Puppington, Shinji Ikari, Misato Katsuragi, Homura Akemi, Iroh, Zuko, Akane Tendo, Alador Blight, Emperor Belos, Simon Laurent, Hordak, Catra, Bojack Horseman, Princess Bubblegum, Hank Hill, Light Yagami, Freddy Krueger, Walter White, Skyler White, Saul Goodman, Gus Fring, Dick Dastardly, Bowser
"Problematic" ships i like:
Entrapdak ("entrapta is autistic which automatically makes her a minor and hordak is an evil colonizer")
Doofenperry (Doofenshmirtz is human, Perry is a platypus, also they're enemies #toxicyaoi)
WebLena (age gap)
UsaMamo (4 year age gap in the anime)
Lawlight (age gap, toxic)
David/Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (age gap)
Huntlow (age gap of *gasp* 2 years, which is literally pedophilia to some antis)
Lunter (again, 2 year age gap, "sibling coded" and shipping Luz with men apparently erases her sexuality...even though her being bisexual means she also likes men)
Punkflower (Hobie's age is ambiguous)
ZADR (interspecies, age gap, toxic)
Kurisa (age gap)
Kyoko/Katsuya (age gap, teacher/student)
Simoncest (selfcest)
Sessrin (age gap)
InuKag and InuKik (immortal x mortal)
Hikaru/Kaoru (not seriously though) (twincest)
AkiYuna (age gap)
Zutara (sorta) (two year age gap, Zuko is "literally a colonizer")
Kataang (again, two year age gap, also Aang once kissed Katara without her consent. oh no, how dare a child make a mistake?)
Chelby (hero x villain, Chelsea turned out to be an adult disguised as a teen, toxic yuri)
KiGo (hero x villain, age gap, toxic yuri)
Narumayo (age gap, """""sibling coded""""")
As you can tell, i seem to like age gaps the most. i also like immortal x mortal (which falls under age gap), selfcest, and ACTUALLY toxic yuri/yaoi. it depends though.

Fruits Basket - Vol. 11
┻━┻︵ \(°□°)/ ︵ ┻━┻
I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito I hate Akito.
I could go on forever but it won't make anything better. I don't even have the words to describe how much I fucking hate that stupid excuse of a person. When he was first in the series, he was mostly just annoying, I thought he was just a little bitch baby. After reading this book, he's the fucking worst, he's the worst kind of villain I hate him immeasurably with what he does.
Honestly, this book was really hard to get through. I've been procrastinating against writing this all day, because then I'd have to think about the stuff that happened in this book. For some reason, it is just,,, really hitting me hard. Like, last night and this morning, when I was first writing this, I was just angry, and I couldn't make anything coherent, but now I'm just tired (and not just because I stayed up past midnight this last week for literally no reason lmao).
But for this book, we basically get to see how Akito treats the other zodiac people, and it's very demeaning and very condescending. When he's talking with Haru, Akito laughs at what he says, and calls him "the big funny dumb ox", just because Haru was like, "Hey, are you going to have all the zodiac people meet Tohru? It'd feel weird if you didn't" (the actual term for the zodiac people is "Juunishi" and I like saying that more than "zodiac people", it's way less clumsy, so now I'll try to remember to say that) When Akito talks about Yuki, he just thinks that Yuki's a crybaby, and after they talked, Yuki ran off somewhere because he's just a boring nothing. When Akito talked to Kyo, he called him (and Tohru) a monster, straight to his face. Repeatedly. And when he brings up the plan of what they'll do to Kyo once he finishes high school, he somehow blames the whole thing on Kyo, as if he wants that at all?? It all just hits a little too close to home, I guess.
I mean, from this book, we learned why Kyo has been so dead-set on beating Yuki in a fight: it's because Akito said that if Kyo could do that, that he wouldn't be taken away into a dungeon for the rest of his life, only ever seeing Akito. Anyone in their right minds would try their hardest to escape that fate.
I mean, Yuki doesn't seem to have a great life destined for himself either; it seems that he'll just be pulled back into the main house, and probably won't really be able to leave. Probably just stay there until he dies, too, but at least he'll probably be able to get a job and see other people than fucking Akito.
After the meeting, or towards the end, shall I say, we get another big reveal that is minorly spoiled within this book's summary: we find out for sure that Kyo does in fact love Tohru. I love how the summary phrases it though, that it's a secret somehow. A secret to who?? Surely not to the readers! There was one part where Kyo was trying to figure out when it all started, and it was a scene within the first two books, I swear to god. I don't remember exactly when it was, but it was early on, when he was sitting on the roof and Tohru found him, and she mentioned something about martial arts and she showed off her one move. He said she's bad at punching. I doubt that's changed. Tohru hasn't really been sluggin people lately, though maybe she should get into it. There's a time and place to be nice, and that time and place is quickly dissolving.
So, as I thought, it happened super early on. I suspect that if we got a similar scene for Yuki, it'd also be pretty early on. They both just saw Tohru being the way she is and separately but simultaneously went, "Oh shit, this girl is fucking annihilating the emotional barriers that I've built up throughout my life. Look at her, just fukin smiling for no reason. How goddamn pure. Fuck." (A direct quote, fun fact.)
Back to the story though, after Tohru met the Horse Girl (Isuzu?), she was wondering who the last member of the Juunishi (wow, that already looks better) could be. Who is the rooster? Well, who is the one Sohma that she knows could potentially transform, as per the curse? Akito. She thought for all of,,, three seconds, that it could be him, but after an encounter with him in the rain (because he just showed up at the house where everyone was staying) and demanded Momiji, who was standing outside, to get Tohru. Momiji did his part, he tried to keep Akito from seeing Tohru, but after she saw Akito hit Momiji, she intervened, and then that's basically where Akito said, "Who the fuck do you think you are, invading this happy little family of ours? You're messing everything up! I want these people to stay with me forever, and there's nothing you can do to stop that", and after a revelation, Tohru realized that Akito's place in all of this is essentially God. Akito is God, which is bad for many reasons. Probably not in the omnipotent, omniscient sense, but that's basically what he is.
In the end, though, Tohru decides that she wants to break this curse. She doesn't want any more members of the Sohma family (specifically the Juunishi) to have to bear this curse, because she sees how it affects everyone within the family. It's destructive, and she wants to be rid of it. And I am whole-heartedly with her on that.

alright season 3 ep 1 thoughts!! let’s go:
-  off the bat really like the tone shift in the zodiac lore that we first saw at the start of s1e1 -- from what i can tell the line delivery is the same, but the music is much more somber. just thought that was a nice touch
- oh okay this op is a bop. the visuals are a little jarring but it’s whatever lmfao
- congrats machi for making it into a furuba op i guess. kakeru baby i’m sorry they left you out of the season 2 ops when u were so important to the season. they got away with robbery.
- i really like ren’s jpn voice....... something about it...... evil silk
- GODDD god fucking. akito ramming ren through the fucking screen doors and launching them both into the air. i really cannot. the build up in this scene was so good and then it was just immediately ruined. next!!
- actually i like how ren’s expressions were animated during “akira-san and i have a real bond” very smooth. meanwhile i think akito’s expressions are kind of overmuch.
- i still laugh at this scene where baby kureno shigure hatori + ayame just run up to ren like “baby. give baby” like she must have been like “someone get these little gremlins away from me??”
- “i can’t see arisa while there’s another girl i have to stay with” no you can’t see arisa because you’re too old for her. next.
- actually not next i’m going to gripe about kureno/uo for a second because i haven’t in a long time and i want to. this pairing sucks. its main purpose is to lead to this huge moment where tohru learns about another layer of the curse via kureno but the pairing itself is underdeveloped and creepy as hell. it sucks the life out of uo’s character which personally i just won’t forgive ever 💖
- kureno stop getting into young girls’ personal space challenge
- it’s kureno having pity sex with akito for me. akito “pity sex” sohma.
- hana deadpanning “ta-da”...... i love her. also man i just looove love hers and tohru’s relationship and it’s so nice to see these moments later on while tohru is so completely wrapped up in the sohma drama where they can just be together :’(
- YUKIIII i love u...... shimazaki i love youuuuuuu. man i also love yuki and hana’s friendship i think they’re so cute together. it’s few and far between but they always play off of each other perfectly.
- also love shigure’s casualness with hana lmfao.... “saki-chan might be pissed at me if tohru doesn’t bounce back” the way that he figures hana knows this is his fault somehow. i suppose just thru the fact that he’s her guardian but still.
- also man i missed yuki and shigure’s banter i feel like it’s been a min since we’ve seen that
- okay back to the girls. hana’s love for tohru just overflows from her and she barely has to say anything. i also love that this is a pretty rare moment where tohru is actually allowing herself to be upset and talk about what’s bothering her (sort of) -- at this point especially because the burden she’s carrying wrt the sohmas is incredibly overwhelming and there’s really no way for her to backtrack and shove it all down. we don’t really get to see tohru rely emotionally on uo and hana during the later parts of the series so it’s just really nice to see how strong their bond continues to be.
- all that said i think the fact that tohru is clearly at some sort of breaking point and then directs all of that solely into kureno and uo’s relationship is...... yeah idk i think hana and uo would both know that something else was up. tohru’s a romantic but man uo and kureno have met exactly twice. the overreaction of it all. all of this happening in hana’s gaudy as fuck room is just the cherry on top actually.
- like imagine you get your first real crush ever and it’s a little stupid because it was from a very fleeting interaction with someone and you also feel like you’re overreacting to it but then your best friend insists that you two need to be together to the point that she’s bawling her eyes out over it when it doesn’t seem like it’ll work out. literally what then.
- aside from that this is very much part of the continued dialogue of tohru’s fears of not being a useful person. she’s so afraid of being useless bc of her abandonment issues, and in response to that she insists on overdoing things. she knows that people love her but she also has an extreme lack of faith in herself that that love has longevity if she’s not constantly proving herself to be useful. which ofc leads into hana herself saying that tohru burdens herself way, way too much with other people’s emotions.
- for some reason hana going “i worry about you” makes me wanna cry ugh. they.
- “i called her :)” queen of taking the credit for things she did not do.
- i feel like this could have been a really normal and natural conclusion to whatever was going on between uo and kureno. honestly, i think it would have been fitting even -- we have this incredibly emotionally intense side of things with kureno, which is completely wrapped up into the dark world of the curse and the sohmas. and then we have this normal side of things with uo, someone who is representative of a (relatively) normal life -- she had a crush that she briefly felt too emotionally involved in, and then she let it go. as is the case with crushes. there was really no reason to extend kureno and uo’s plotline beyond this point.
- me watching the kyoru scene and just zooming into yuki smiling at them........ he 💖
- ending the ep on the original four, and tohru uo + hana, is just perfect really. idk it feels very much like reminding us of where everything started + where it’s going.

So in honor of the Fruits Basket reboot who would you say are your fave Furuba characters and ships (canon) and why? Least fave Furuba characters and canon ships and why?
DO YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY I AM TO HAVE A FURUBA ASK IN MY INBOX IN THE YEAR 2019?? SEND ME MORE
(probably some spoilers under the cut for those who havent read the manga)
I love every single character theres no such things as favourites in this house except maybe tohru because she is the sun. I don’t have any least faves..
Except for this guy fuck this guy. this guy killed his wife through guilt and emotional abuse, blamed his son, wanted his son locked away for existing, was just a piece of shit abuser all around and caused nothing but pain and resentment fuck this guy and every other shitty zodic parent who hated their kids. Also momiji’s mom hurts me in every way possible she wasnt evil like this bitch but momiji deserves better fUC K
Tumblr media
(I dont hate akito and probably never will bc god she was terrible but also her growth and THAT CLIFF SCENE?? my heart cried for her)
As for ships kyoru has owned my ass since I was 9, and ten years and a reboot later nothing has changed. The growth that they go through together?? fuckin legends ugh they love each other, I can go on for days about them
Tumblr media
Least favourite ships? Difficult to explain. Considering a majority of the ships consist of incest or large age gaps i’m constantly torn between “that was sweet/romantic as hell” before immediately being like “oh yeah right they’re cousins..” (haru/rin im lookin at u). and hana thirsting after kyo’s dad and demanding kyo call her mother?? a power move but also we all know uo and hana are tohrus lesbian moms so.
(Unpopular opinion but yuki/machi was really sweet and I genuinely enjoy them as a couple but also yuki/kakeru is valid, and overall the student councils relationship with yuki as a whole is beautiful because they all treat him like the bitch that he is and he therefore is allowed to be his true bitch self amen)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they’re both so valid

TELL ME ABOUT THE VAL/WHI AU!! Please
GUH let me drop a lot of pieces i wrote down hehe
its going to be lengthy so ill tuck it under the cut
akito starts off as a florist (based off of his vivid old tale card) but after the disappearance of touya (and nene) he enlists and trains to become a knight in the 2-3 year time frame before the main story begins
touya and nene are childhood friends too!! i need more touyanene content so im just appealing to myself here with that lol but they met when touya used to run off to get away from his father - touya would watch nene practice acting and all the like :]
when touya was a little older (13ish) he would then meet akito. the two hit it off very well too - they became very close and akito would trespass into the castle grounds to visit touya at night. sometimes with flowers
the entire cast makes an appearance in this au for sure just many will have lesser roles outside of the gamer quartet, tsukasa, saki, amia, and rui. some are apart of the kingdom, some are just villagers, others are beings who help guide akito and emu to touya and nene
i have made it clear that touya and nene (and rui too) are fucked up and evil in this au yes... the two are mostly controlled by rui... touyas sword is the source of his powers and also controls him heavily.. and nene can become a dragon. yeah <3
touya is abs merciless and at the beginning of the main story. he attacks the kingdom with nene. injures tsukasa and some others. and kidnaps saki.
emu is a close friend of nene, tsukasa, and rui and thats another reason why she wants to travel with akito bc she too has been trying to find nene
emu is also somewhat clairvoyant, can read minds, purify and heal injuries, and has magical powers teehee so where akito falls short emu def can carry. the two balance each other out and end up making a good team
mafuyu, ena, and meiko appear as hermits (footsteps event set) who akiemu encounter and they end up helping guide the two
same with shizuku, haruka, and luka who appear as fairies (shizukus recent focus event set)
also to backup a little but bc emu was a close friend of nene. and that touya and nene were childhood friends. and that touya and akito were very close. these four have def interacted as a group before and consider each other friends. though akiemu was prob the dynamic where they were the least close of them all
((im going to add in that akty established qpps in this au teehee yeah its my au and i get to make the rules))
rui is also corrupted hes not evil by default no he used to be apart of the kingdom too in the past but he left on a quest several years back and never returned. he was in search of an ancient and powerful magic that ended up being imbued with evils and took him over...
when touya and nene ran away and were overall very vulnerable rui convinced them that he can make sure they can have the power to protect themselves if they agree to work with him. they did. and boom. fucked up and evil........ this also is what ends up happening to saki..
rui being corrupted with this evil magic desires to take over the kingdom....
((and yeas everyone becomes purified by the end of the story and theres abs a good ending bc i REFUSE to kill anyone off permanently))
and despite touya being corrupted. there are several moments where akito has been able to break through to him just a little. these two are insanely close ofc so it makes sense right? touya sees the rose earring he gave akito. a memory resurfaces briefly and he stops attacking and whatnot for a moment. haha. its emotional. explodes.
also epic akito and touya sword duel bc yeah. i think it would be cool. and AUHGHFFHHGHD
its akito and emu vs. touya and nene really tho. which god. the image is in my head and. explodes explodes explodes.
okay i think thats all i have for now. this is really long oops. teehee <3

So in honor of the Fruits Basket reboot who would you say are your fave Furuba characters and ships (canon) and why? Least fave Furuba characters and canon ships and why?
oh anon i lov u!
soo i love a lot of the characters a lot but i think my top faves are def: yuki, momiji, and rin!! im so excited to see rin finally animated ;__;
canon ships..... thats always hard bc i dont rly like str8 ships jkghdfjkgdf. but uhhh. i love kyoru a lot! as a kid i was a big yukiru stan so its wild being older and actually rly loving kyoru dfgjkdf. and uh. yuki/machi was good? i prefer yuki being gay but i love machi a lot and their relationship is v sweet regardless
honorable mention ship goes to mitsuru/ritsu bc yeah its rly pair the spares but also LESBIAN RIGHTS
least fave chars: mostly the obvious ones? like obv shigure can choke (altho i recognize he’s an interesting character, i just wish the narrative like, actually condemned his horrible actions lmao). i RLY RLY HATE KATSUYA IDK WHY TAKAYA WANTS TO KEEP PUTTING AGE GAP SHIT EVERYWHERE u__u
honorable mention for akito bc they ofc have earned a lot of resentment but its so complicated i have a hard time rly saying i “hate” them u know
and canon ships i hate most r def the evil age gap ones like shigure/akito, kureno/arisa, katsuya/kyoko, etc like none of that was necessary. why. why
#pedophilia #age gap

i hate late fruits basket so much bc takaya could have made background evil toxic relationship comedy of the century out of the dynamic of your crush fucking the most boring guy you know so to get back at them you fuck their mom objectively in a context removed from literally everything else about shigure and akito's relationship that is hilarious but that is not the world we live in.

Fruits Basket - Vol.15
You think you know someone, and then it turns out you really, really don't. At least, you know a very small portion of that person.
In a pretty hefty chunk of this book, we get a massive flashback into Yuki's childhood. As expected, it wasn't that great. What I didn't expect is how bad it was. It was,,, honestly a lot.
So, because he is the Rat Boy, and because I guess the rat is the closest to God in this whole situation, Yuki ended up being around Akito for most of his childhood. It wasn't ever really anything he wanted to do, it was just something he had to do. And from the short glimpse we get of Akito as a little kid, it seems like he didn't use to be anywhere near as bad as he is in the present (which makes sense). He seemed to have a short temper, but other than that, there wasn't anything unusual. Until one random day, that is. Akito kinda flipped his shit, and has been that way since. How nice.
As a result of always being close to Akito, no one else really wanted to be around Yuki. And after Akito cracked a bit, and started saying that Yuki wasn't wanted, that he was unnecessary, and that no one liked him, Yuki didn't much like being around Akito, but he didn't have any choice. Some time around then, Yuki's parents seem to have kinda sold Yuki to appease Akito, so he didn't even have his family to fall back on. Ayame, his older brother, ignored his existence as a whole. Have we even met Yuki's father in this entire series?
So when Yuki first heard of Kyo, how he was left outside, Yuki was pretty curious. He was alone, and so was this mysterious cat person. Maybe they could be friends? But, of course, the second that Kyo saw Yuki, he blamed Yuki for basically everything that went wrong in his life, just because Yuki was the rat, and he was the cat. Before this point, the whole Juunishi thing doesn't really seem to affect Yuki much, he doesn't seem to categorize people based on what animal spirit they have, but I imagine that after this incident, maybe that changed. After that initial interaction with Kyo, Yuki didn't immediately hate him, he was just sad and confused, but moving on, I bet it was excellent fuel to the fire.
(Oh hey I'll just put this here, that after Kyo yelled at him for "ruining everything" and that everyone would be happier if he just disappeared, he ran into his mom again. He was upset, and probably could've used some nice comfort. Instead of that, he got slapped in the face. So. -1 for Yuki's mom.)
Do you remember way back, probably around the first books, when Yuki brought up that time that he accidently turned into a rat while playing with some kids in elementary school? It went over that. It was already a sad scene, but now there's this additional context that when he was playing around with the other kids, that was basically one of the first times that he was truly happy. But after he changed into a rat, well obviously that had to be covered up, so all those kids that he was starting to make friends with were made to completely forget about him. He wasn't back to square one, he was at square zero, because now he had had a taste of friendship, just for it to be taken away and replaced with Akito (and probably other people) shaming him for having the audacity of being born as a Juunishi, because he totally chose to be like that, right?
Another slight detour, the hat. So the hat was originally Kyo's, but after he saw Yuki holding it, he just decided that it wasn't his anymore. And, oh my fucking god? The following panels are fucking heart wrenching, it's terrible. Did no one hear Yuki crying, or did they just ignore it? Like, I don't like kids, I can't handle them when they're screaming (why do they scream so much it's weird) or crying, but oh my god, that hurts me. That panel hurts me. He just wants a family that loves and cares for him, that doesn't avoid or ignore him. (Put a pin in this sentiment, because it pops up later.)
After a steady diet of this kinda thing, with Akito's acidic words, people's general distaste or indifference for him, he started being scared to reach out to others. (Personally, I kinda feel like screaming at these people, like wtf is wrong with all of them) It's here when he just seems to kinda shut off. All this time, he's still sickly, and feeling like your life is without worth (and having your world confirm it everyday) doesn't exactly make you fight to stay healthy, y'know?
And here's when Yuki kinda is given a purpose, because after Akito visited him when his cough was acting up, and basically asked him, "Are you going to die yet? If you're gonna do it, just do it already", he left the house, and ran out randomly out in town in the early morning, where he overheard Kyoko screaming to the police about how her adorable little daughter in her adorable little dress with her cute hair in adorable little pom-poms was missing and she was going to tear down the town to find her. He kept running down some roads, until he did actually find that adorable little daughter.
On his end, it seemed to be a series of "Well shit. What now?" after finding her, and only continued as Tohru saw him and started following after him until he led her back to her house. This whole thing, as has been explained in previous books, was basically the first time in his life where someone needed him, specifically him, to help them. And that feeling, of knowing that he was able to help someone, and that he was needed, even for a little bit, was enough to pull him through.
Then we're pulled back to present, shortly after Machi broke open the closet door with a chair where Yuki was stuck in, which was the main thing that even started this whole thing, where he's explaining kind of why he came to see and/or love Tohru in maternal way. Thing is, just like when that was revealed, I still don't blame him for it. She's very caring. I'll admit (like Kakeru, who has kinda been there sitting with Yuki this whole time, apparently in silence) that I don't wholly understand it, on a personal level, but I can see why he thinks that. It makes sense.
Now onto to wacky happenings and zany shenanigans! The school is making a play, and Kyo's one of the main characters (despite never really showing that he has literally any interest in acting or theater, but yaknow whatever) in a Cinderella play, with Cinderella herself being played as Hanajima! This has already been brought up in the last book, but I'm just reiterating for fun or something idk
Tohru's having a hard time fitting into the role of an evil stepsister, to the point that she's worried about slowing others down because she just,,, can't,,, make,, herself,,,,, be,, meannnnn omigod it's so hard ;-; Additionally, Kyo's just not showing up for rehearsals and stuff, he's not even bothering. Probably bc it's embarrassing for him. And with these two main problems (the show can't go on if Prince Charming doesn't know his lines, after all), the play is altered, ever so slightly, so that it becomes "Sorta Cinderella". What a marvelous title.
Let's go back to that pin I mentioned earlier, with Yuki wishing he could have had a family that loved and cared for him.
So, before some of this stuff with the play, Yuki brought up The Hat, of the "It was first owned by Kyo but he later abandoned it after seeing that Yuki picked it up, and later wore that hat when he led Tohru back to her mom" fame, in a very off-handed manner. I think he just said that Tohru still has the hat, in her room, that's she's kept it all this time. This throws some unpleasant memories for Kyo into the air, and leaves him rather bitter.
Leading back to the main scene at hand, Kyo kinda goes off on Yuki, saying that Yuki was lucky: he had a mom and dad, he was needed, he was involved in the family matters. He's had it easy, had the world handed to him on a silver platter, and that he'll never understand what it's like to hope for something despite knowing he'll never get it. (and both times i've read that so far, i just want to yoink kyo into the beginning of this book, like, no dude. your childhood was fucked up, but so was his.) He stops mid-rant, however, when he sees that Yuki is not fighting back, at all, and when he remembers something that (probably) Akito said, that Kyo just uses Yuki as something he can hate. Naturally, why would you ever want to feed into something that Akito would say, so he stops, but not before punching a hole in a window. Ow.
Finally, we've gotten to the play, the main event! Hiro, Kisa, Momiji, and Haru (among others) are there to witness the,, the sight? (Idk man it's 12:30am) Hiro is acting strangled, as per usual, trying to keep Kisa away from all the creeps, but also trying his small-child most to not Mess Things Up, as he has a slight history of doing throughout the series thus far.
The play in of itself is pretty funny, personally I think the narrator was doing the heavy lifting in this one. But more importantly, there's a point where "Cinderella" asks "Prince Charming" if all he ever wants out of life is to hide away from people, locked away in his own space, dying alone, (which I heavily doubt was part of the script, because,, whoa) and partway through telling her that he wouldn't affect anyone if he did do that, the "Stepsister" (Tohru) interrupts him, saying that would make her... she stops herself, but one can assume that the end of that statement would likely be that, if "Prince Charming" (psh nah this isn't about the play anymore) Kyo were to do that, she would get very upset, and generally not have a good time. And he had the audacity to be surprised about that like wtf man.
After the play, Yuki runs into a group of girls that are harrassing Machi, because she said that Yuki isn't like a prince. She didn't explain herself after saying it, and so I suppose the Yuki Fan Club (or whatever it's called idk I'd be surprised but also not if it wasn't called that) took offense to her disagreeing with her. After being pushed around (literally), Machi says that Yuki just seems too lonely of a person to be a prince, that despite being surrounded by people, he just kinda seems out of it most of the time. Now, is that true? It kinda seems so, so, props to Machi for seeing that, hopefully she's not going to be kidnapped and tortured (idk stuff happens). Hearing Machi say all that does kinda startle Yuki, but the fight itself stops after Kakeru makes a fake announcement about a photoshoot with Yuki that makes the bullies scatter away.
And that's basically the end of it. Although the flashback thing with Yuki probably didn't even take up a third of the book, it was still some pretty heavy stuff, so it's nice that it was offset slightly with the play. I don't really have much else to say about that.
