Balto II: Wolf Quest is interesting because it shows the titular character interacting with wolves and actually exploring his wolf side, which they didn't do in the first movie. Sadly, while this was a interesting concept, the execution leaves much to be desired. I will give them props for including the Brain, Ariel, Eliza Thornberry, the Joker, and Grasshopper in it, though.

Welcome to Revenge of the Underrated!
Some of you asked me to put a "haven't watched both" to be more fair to the more unknown movies, but I've seen other tournaments doing this and I think it limits too much who can participate in the polls. So what I decided to do is a double elimination!
What does that mean? That means a movie has to lose twice to be eliminated. In other words, there will be a sorts of losers bracket that'll be part of main bracket. I'm undecided on whether to do this for only one round or the whole bracket, as it would make the tournament very long. Do let me know if you have any opinion about it.
Anyway, Revenge of the Underrated, Round 1:

╰┈➤ my alterhuman comfort movies
་ ּ𝟶:𝟶𝟶 ──◍───── 𝟷:𝟹𝟶 ➛ 🌱𖥔 ִ ་ ، ˖ ࣪ ་ ˖ ʿ🦴ꜝ
a list of comfort movies that i resemble or relate my alterhumanity to in some way.
: 1 WOLF CHILDREN
Tumblr media
i absolutely have to put this as number one, mostly since it was one of the first movies i watched that i connected with on such a deep level when i was newly awakened.
without any spoilers, i felt that i related to both of the children so well that the movie was incredibly moving for me to watch. still one of my favourites to this day!
: 2 SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMMERON
Tumblr media
another big childhood movie for me - it’s so disappointing that they followed it up with a crappy horse-girl tv series though. also has an incredibly moving soundtrack that i still listen to.
: 3 BROTHER BEAR
Tumblr media
i love the plot of this movie- it is so comforting. and the soundtrack, oh my. it’s one of my favourite disney movies for sure, and you definitely don’t need a to have a bear theriotype to relate either.
: 4 BALTO
Tumblr media
rewatched this one fairly recently - some hard wolf feels for this movie. the feeling of not belonging as both a dog and a wolf is relatable, just in a different sense as a non-human.
although i feel like there’s much more or a alterhuman vibe from the second movie: wolf quest. i feel like most people will argue that nothing beats the original but i have a big soft spot for balto II.
: 5 BOLT
Tumblr media
a disney gem, that i feel people forget about a lot. i’m including this one because it was a recent re-watch for me and it has some big alterhuman feels. the way bolt is learning to be a “dog” again without his super-powers, just reminds me of my alterhumanity - the window scene especially.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
- movies that i haven’t yet seen, but give me alterhuman vibes.
Tumblr media
WOLFWALKERS : theres a lot of talk about this one, though i’ve only seen clips!
POM POKO : a studio ghibli movie about tanuki’s that can shapeshift.
SONG OF THE SEA : made by the same studio as wolfwalkers (i’m pretty sure!) - a story about a girl that can turn into a seal.

Just realized I haven't posted many of these here yet so...here we go.
ver since December I've been working on and off on a huge Balto II: Wolf Quest PMV since it's one of my favorite movies. Unfortunately it's a huge project (total should be about 3 minutes long, I've completed about 40 seconds) and with me having very little free time and a million other things to do, progress is slow. But I do try to get at least a few frames done each week. Here's some of my current favorites.
ID below the cut.
[ID: Several digitally drawn images based on the movie Balto II: Wolf Quest. The first depicts a young tan wolfdog (Aleu) as a puppy howling on a wooden pole. She is located at a beach, and surrounding the pole are her five siblings, who all resemble red huskies. Four of them are watching her and one is leaning up against the pole, looking at her as well with a smile. The second drawing depicts a red husky wearing an orange bandana (Jenna) crying while a gray wolfdog (Balto) comforts her. The background is the wooden wall of a house. The third drawing depicts Aleu as a puppy fast asleep in a wooden crate. The fourth shows a now young-adult Aleu talking to a snow goose (Boris) with two young polar bears (Muk and Luk) in the background watching. They are in a lush green forest and Aleu and Boris have annoyed expressions. Muk and Luk look curious. The fifth image shows Aleu and Balto in the same green forest, this time in a more shaded place. Aleu is in the front looking out over a few bushes with a curious expression, while Balto is sitting further in the backing concerned. The next drawing depicts the wreckage of a wooden boat washed up on shore at nighttime. It's right in front of a deep blue sea and the last rays of sunset can just be seen on the left side. The next image shows Aleu's silhouette running across a barren horizon, with a dark purple cloudy sky as the background. The eighth image shows Balto talking to Aleu in a room on the wooden boat. Aleu is looking upset and has her tail curled above her back. This scene is also set at nighttime. The final drawing depicts Aleu looking worriedly up at the sky while she's standing on some rocks in front of a huge downpouring waterfall with mist surrounding her. End ID.]

#105 Yak
Movie name: Balto II: Wolf Quest (2003)
Since I've drawn Sumac and Nuk before I really couldn't not draw my favorite boy of the trio again: Yak. Aside from Nava he is probably my favorite Balto character in general, I just relate to him a lot and also he is adorable. Referenced this pose from a screenshot from the film, just look at him.
Like Nuk and Sumac (and by extension Niju) his design is a bit weird in that he doesn't look very lupine and looks very out of place compared to Nava, Aniu and the other wolves of the wolf clan. But still I've grown a fondness for his slightly weird design. I do have my own personal redesign for him and the other guys, but I prefer drawing the canon these days. He's just so skrunkly.

Salutations, and welcome to my xenofiction sideblog. This is where I post my xenofic-related stuff including but not limited to:
My designs for characters from xenofiction books
Text posts (see: rambles) about my own xenofiction stories/webseries or those I read by others
General xenofiction stuff (book covers, screenshots, etc)
Xenofiction art by me or others
More? Maybe, in the future?
Feel free to suggest a character from a book series for me to design in my askbox, but please follow the following guidelines:
No Warrior Cats, Wings of Fire or Watership Down
Feral animals only, no furries/anthros or fantastical creatures like dragons/unicorns/etc.
I don’t have a lot to say about myself, but I do currently have a few completed and ongoing xenofiction projetcts, this being Tales From the Alps, a now-complete webseries duology about dogs/wolves I made when I was younger, and Dark Stones, a book series I’m currently writing. So you’ll probably see some posts about them sometimes.
My favorite xenofiction books are: The Wolf Chronicles, Fire Bringer and White Fang.
My favorite xenofiction movies are: Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Balto II: Wolf Quest, The Secret of NIMH, The Lord of the Rings trilogy (yes this counts).
My favorite animals are: thylacines and wolves

Saba the Dingo/Ethiopian wolf by an unknown brand. I unfortunately can't find any information about this plush online. There's no tags so I don't know the brand, and I can't even properly identify the species. It looks like both a dingo and Ethiopian wolf, but googling for plushies of either species doesn't show this one in the results. So I'm kind of at a loss here, I don't even know what species to refer to her as.
I got her in a trade with an Instagram plush collector friend, but unfortunately she had no information on her, either. If anyone knows anything at all about this plush feel free to tell me, I'd love to figure out the enigma that is Saba. I did find a single listing for her over here, but it still really gives no information regarding the brand/species since it's labeled as "fox dog" or whatever that means.
I got her in 2022 and I named her after one of Balto's pups in Balto II: Wolf Quest. And while I don't know the species, I tend to refer to her as an Ethiopian wolf.

My Favorite Films I Watched In 2022.
My Favorite Films I Watched in 2022.
Note 1. These are films I watched in 2022. Not that were all released in 2022. Note 2. This is a subjective ranking based on how much I enjoyed the film. Not necessarily based on the quality of the film.
1. The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1966) - A bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery. (This film is very well-made. I wouldn't put it on for a random lazy afternoon, but I strongly recommend everyone watch it once.)
2. How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) - When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. (Quality sequel.)
3. Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022) - Thirty years after their popular television show ended, chipmunks Chip and Dale live very different lives. When a cast member from the original series mysteriously disappears, the pair must reunite to save their friend. (This is a fun, spiritual successor to 'Roger Rabbit'. I really enjoyed this flick.)
4. Child's Play (1988) - A single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer. (This is a fun, sometimes creepy horror flick. I had seen parts of this film through the years, but this is the year I sat and watched it in one sitting.)
5. Onward (2020) - Two elven brothers embark on a quest to bring their father back for one day. (Great concept. Good execution. And it had me getting a bit misty-eyed a few times.)
6. The Fox And The Hound 2 (2006) - Tod and Copper still go together like an itch and a scratch, but when Copper gets a shot at the big time with a nutty group of hound dog howlers, their purebred friendship is put to the test. (Look, this ranking is entirely based on Reba McEntire voicing 'Dixie'.)
7. Jane Eyre (1943) - After a harsh childhood, orphan Jane Eyre is hired by Edward Rochester, the brooding lord of a mysterious manor house, to care for his young daughter. (Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles are good in this film. I have never read the book.)
8. Sahara (1943) - After the fall of Tobruk in 1942, during the Allied retreat in the Libyan desert, an American tank picks-up a motley group of survivors but they face advancing Germans and a lack of water. (Solid war film. Humphrey Bogart is good, as usual, in it.)
9. Balto II: Wolf Quest (2001) - Balto and his daughter Aleu embark on a journey of adventure and self discovery. (I like the first 'Balto' quite a bunch, and that bias definitely boosts this sequel in my rankings.)
10. Fiend Without A Face (1958) - A scientist's thoughts materialize as an army of invisible brain-shaped monsters (complete with spinal-cord tails!) who terrorize an American military base in this nightmarish chiller. (I've seen a bunch of old horror and sci-fi flicks. This one is pretty good. Pretty good effects as well for the time.)
Honorable Mentions - Turning Red (2022), Guys And Dolls (1955), The Women (1939), Day The World Ended (1955), Pet Sematary (1989), and For Me And My Gal (1942).
According to my log on Letterboxd, I have seen 93 films for the first time in 2022. That number will be higher in 2023.
