Пока стою на трассе подрабатываю решила излиться по поводу фильма "Ничего хорошего в отеле "Эль Рояль".

Если вы думаете, что я начну загонять про Тарантино, Коэнов-шмоенов, шедевры и прочую мелодраматическую и возвышенную дичь, то как бы нет, я не шарю.

Я пошла туда потому что #ПрессХэмсворта.

Если бы меня попросили дать название этому фильму, я бы нарекла его "Хэмсворт и его бритые сисечки", ну, или "Хэмсворт усики пропуск в трусики", "Крис, застегни рубаху, выйди из кустов"...

Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)

In real life, there’s no way a collection of colorful characters would gather together like they do in Bad Times at the El Royale but that’s the point. The enjoyment drawn is trying to figure out how, when confronted with each other, everyone will react and who, ultimately, will be left standing afterward.

At the California-Nevada border sits the El Royale, a hotel who’s seen better days. Looking to get rooms are Catholic priest Daniel Flynn (Jeff Bridges), soul singer Darlene Sweet (Cynthia Erivo), smooth-talking vacuum salesman Laramie Seymour Sullivan (Jon Hamm) and hippie Emily Summerspring (Dakota Johnson). Everyone is more than they seem at first, same with the sole El Royale employee present, Miles Miller (Lewis Pullman).

Written and directed by Drew Goddard, you can see a bit of his preference for behind-the-curtain sinisterisms. Even if ordinary people had all booked rooms in the hotel, this is a place full of secrets. Collecting the clues, sorting them away, unpacking them to make sense of what’s what, and completing the many puzzles handed to you makes the admittedly elongated runtime (over two hours) very digestible. The building itself is a character and, since there are so many oddballs in this story, this “world” has a lot of personality. It’s a movie where the story will follow one, maybe two people for a chunk and then suddenly cut to someone. Before you can raise your hand in protest, a new twist regarding that pre-title sequence where a man booked a specific hotel room 10 years ago, or a strange package carried by a certain miss, or a news report on the TV we hear in the background makes you forget all about what you were invested in previously. You want to see this new shiny thing instead! As the picture continues, things get twisted, dark, violent and when they start converging, you have no idea what's next.

Each of the many characters is brought to life by talented actors and actresses who make the most of their roles and are having a blast with their dialogue and actions. I was particularly pleased to see Dakota Johnson in a good film for a change. This almost washes out the taste of Fifty Shades Freed, Fifty Shades Darker and How to Be Single.

Avoid the trailers to Bad Times, who in my opinion give away some of the juiciest surprises. You say you might’ve been able to deduce some of them on your own? Maybe, but there are too many here for you to crack before the film reveals its hand. Besides, the fun part is figuring it out on your own, not having the advertisements spoon-feed it to you. Bad Times at the El Royale displays once again Drew Goddard’s stylish direction and talent with words. Above all, it’s engaging, twisty fun. (Theatrical version on the big screen, October 14, 2018)
