Part 01: A Month Ago 🧟
A month ago, the nation of South Korea fell to its knees. A deadly virus swept through the country, killing every human it came in contact with and mutating them into flesh-fiending, viciously-violent creatures, fictionally known as zombies.
The outbreak spread fast through Seoul, turning half of the civilians here into zombies within 24 hours. Rumours were that outbreaks happened in Busan, Gwangju, and Daegu before the Seoul outbreak even started. Everything happened within a matter of hours. Nobody had any time to react, you had to fight for your life within the blink of an eye. Even the government was left dumbfounded.
They deployed military power to try and control the outbreaks. However, the number of zombies soon outnumbered the number of military personnel. Eventually, there was no stopping the virus as it just grew out of control.
It was too late for the government to issue martial law. They knew there was no use putting up a fight they knew they couldn't win. Instead they moved onto plan B: evacuation. Your TV was only able to play a singular automated voice message that repeated, 'All of South Korea is currently being affected by the 'Zombie' virus. The government advises you to stay indoors and wait for evacuation processes to be initiated.' And by evacuation, you heard they evacuated the entire Blue House, the closest schools, and the closest retirement villages. You watched choppers fly from Incheon, none of which you saw ever once stopped to evacuate other buildings. That's when you knew the government was absolute bullshit. They didn't bother to try save anyone else. They didn't want to risk it.
You heard the evacuation camp was set up somewhere in Incheon, which made sense because of the helicopters. But you later heard the camp was overridden by the virus only three days later. You never heard choppers flying around ever again. With no government left to guide you, all hope for survival was lost. A week later, the power in your complex stopped running. Matter of fact, you're sure the power for the entire city stopped. Phones stopped working a day after the outbreak so you couldn't call for help. And with food in your apartment running low, you knew your survival rate was plummeting lower by the day.
You were lucky that you only lived on the 5th floor. You had been watching the streets closely the past month. It used to be very busy with screams, growls, tyre screeches, and running footsteps. You even used to be able to hear zombie groans at night. But recently you noticed how quiet it has been. You see a zombie slowly roaming around every now and then but you haven't seen many alive humans. You wonder if everyone else had just left while they could. The more you think about leaving, the more you think 'fuck it, let's do it'. Could it be worse out there? Absolutely. But would you rather die from starvation or die trying to survive?
There was a convenience store just a street down. If you were lucky, you could make it there and hopefully there would be food waiting for you. You just had to be quick. You could do that. You used to be in the track team in high school and a regular gym goer. You can be quick.
"This should be a piece of cake," you encouraged yourself, but the entire time you were screaming at yourself 'what the fuck are you doing?' Only you were hunger-driven enough to go out into a bloody zombie apocalypse to get cup noodles.
You changed into a zip up hoodie and a pair of gym tights, tying your hair into a low ponytail and lacing up in running shoes. You put on your old elbow pads and knee pads from when you were in your rollerblading phase for protection. You also tucked away a pocket knife in your bra. As you were sliding your backpack on, you started having second thoughts. Was this really worth it? Would you really risk dying out there rather than safely at the comfort of your own home? Your life was in your hands but it seemed that any choice you would make could have you dead. You had to at least try. You believed in yourself, you believed you could get there if you tried hard enough. Gripping a baseball bat in one hand and the door knob in the other, you took a deep breath. Carefully unlocking the door, you opened it a small inch, enough for you to peek an eye out into the lobby. It was empty to your relief. You didn't hesitate to make a move, locking your apartment and bidding it a sad farewell.
You jumped to find a zombie lurking around the elevator lobby. It turned around the moment it heard your footsteps, snarling loudly at you. You recognised it to be Mrs Lim, a sweet elderly woman who lived next door to you. You would watch her cats for her whenever she went out of town to visit her daughter. Your heart broke to see her once-white skin drained of colour, her eyes not the usual dark brown but a mustard yellow, and her teeth was covered in dry blood. You didn't have any time to decide what to do about her as she came charging toward you.
"Why does the first zombie I come across have to be you Mrs Lim!" you protested as you held the baseball bat horizontally, keeping a distance between you and her. She was strong for an old lady, well half old lady half zombie, but strong enough to have you sliding back on the tiles. You noticed down the lobby on the other side of the complex were a couple other zombies. They had already noticed you and were rushing towards you.
"Shit!" you cursed, "sorry Mrs Lim," you quickly apologised before kicking her as hard as you could in the stomach. She groaned, stumbling backwards, tripping over her own feet, and falling to the ground. You didn't waste time, opening the door to the stairwell and making sure to lock it behind you.
There were no zombies in the staircase. Though the apartment did feel different without the lights on. You couldn't imagine how much of a struggle it'd be to do this at night without the power working. You had to make sure you were back home at least before the sun set.
A few zombies filled the entrance lobby. You instantly recognised one of them to be another resident who you saw around often and another one of them to be a security guard. You noticed a taser in his holster, something you deemed could be useful to you. They all turned around the moment you opened the door and came rushing towards you. You hit them in the heads with the bat as hard as you could, occasionally using your foot to kick them back whenever they got too close. They all fell to the floor after a good fight from you. You mutter a sorry to them and took the opportunity to steal the security guard's taser and tuck it safely away in your bag, whispering your extra apologies to him.
You hadn't been outside in a month. It felt weird to be back all of a sudden at a place you used to come through everyday. Blood that was smeared on the glass doors made you cringe. You checked the coast. All you could see was the apartment's front garden and the street through the gates. So far, everything was zombie-free. But you don't let your guard down just yet.
Drops of old blood stained the pavement. What was once a nice garden now looks outgrown and somewhat sat on. You could smell the faint stench of dried blood and what you assumed was the smell of dead flesh. The entrance water fountain you thought was so pretty was no longer squirting out water and the water was coloured red. 'Gross' you thought to yourself.
The street was nothing different. Cars were littered all over the place, some had actually looked like they crashed into poles, some were also open. You wondered for a second if you could check the ones that were open out but you also did fear it was only a matter of time before a zombie found you. One car you passed had crashed into a light pole and inside laid a dead rotten woman in the drivers seat. You would have never seen stuff like this before the outbreak. You feel sad for that lady. Who knows how long she had been sitting there? And who knows how much longer she'll be left like that?
Loud snarls made you stop in your tracks. You pressed your back against the concrete wall and peeked slowly around the corner. A quick count of at least 7 zombies were within a 20 metre radius. They blocked the entrance to the convenience store. There were bound to be more too, ones that were hidden in your blind spots. There was no way you could take on all of them.
You noticed a half empty water bottle lying on the floor. Then you had an idea. You snatched it up, crawling behind cars to get closer to the herd without getting spotted. The sounds of their groans terrified you as it grew louder the closer you got. You chucked the water bottle the opposite way as far as you could. It landed on the bumper of a car, sounding its alarm. The loud horn attracted the zombies instantly. They turned around, racing to the source of the sound snarling loudly at it. It was loud enough to probably attract every zombie within a 100 metre radius which would definitely be more zombies than you can handle. But at least you got them distracted. As soon as the coast was clear, you dashed towards the convenience store. Luckily it was unlocked.
The store was a mess. Products littered the ground but the store would was at least half filled. You guess the store could've been looted a couple of times but it's likely this mess was caused the day of the outbreak. You noticed it was also quiet. No snarls, no groans. That was a good sign. You felt a little at ease.
Canned soup, instant noodles, granola bars, biscuits, water bottles. All the foods you have been craving were here in this very room. You have been longing for this moment. You shoved whatever wasn't expired and would likely last a long time into your bag. You noticed your favourite flavour of Doritos 'Sweet Thai Chilli' sitting on the shelf, untouched and not expired yet. You didn't wait to eat these back at home and decided to open one now, your stomach grumbling at the sight. You walked down the aisles like you used to late at night before. It felt wrong to be looting and in a way stealing. You were friends with the owners, a nice old couple ran the store with the occasional help from their daughter. It felt wrong to steal from them. But then again, it was the apocalypse.
Just as you turned down into the end aisle alongside all the freezers of frozen food and cold drinks, a zombie jumped out from the corner, taking you by surprise.
You yelped, flinging the Doritos out your hands by accident. Just in time, you managed to wedge the baseball bat between its teeth, keeping it from biting you. But it was way stronger than you, quickly trapping you between a freezer and itself. You tried to kick your feet at it but it was difficult in the position you were in. The more you tried, the more stronger it pushed against your bat, closing the threatening distance between you both.
You heard the stabbing sound before the zombie stopped moving. A knife had been plunged through the back of its head. The sharp tip stuck out through its forehead, nearly knocking you in the process. You heaved its heavy body off of you to reveal a muscular, middle-aged, man standing behind it. Behind him was a skinnier but taller and younger man. You assumed the two to be friends.
"Thank you" you breathed out, all your energy gone as you lean against the freezer to catch your breath.
The middle-aged man chuckled, an eerie smile that gave you chills appearing on his face, "Anytime sweetheart."
His smile was the last thing you saw before you felt a bash to the head and your world went dark.

Part 03: Mokpo 🧟
"Jeon Jungkook," he added with a shy smile that showed off his front teeth, "that's Jimin," he gestured to the slim man behind him.
"Hey," Jimin smiled, bowing at you and giving a small wave. You noticed his eyes disappeared as he smiled with his top teeth. He had such a pretty and gentle kind of smile. You smiled and bowed back in respect.
"Hey!" another male's voice yelled, followed by the sound of footsteps against gravel. You raised your knife to the source of the sound but you heard Jungkook whisper, “It’s alright,” as he lowered your arm down. You glanced at him, he giggled at the perplexed look on your face.
A tall man with broad shoulders soon came into your view. He’s dressed similarly to Jimin and Jungkook: cargo pants, combat boots. Except he wore a plain sweatshirt, while the other two wore plain long sleeves. He scanned the scene with wide eyes, visibly shocked by the men lying on the ground and your unfamiliar face.
"Jimin, what the hell happened?" he scolded Jimin, who was clearly apologetic towards him as he explained what happened. Broad shoulders sighed deeply while shaking his head, "I leave you both alone for two minutes and this is what you two get up to?"
"Ai, hyung~" Jungkook whined, his eyebrows pinching together, "They kept her hostage, what were we supposed to do?" He nodded to you when he said 'her.' Broad shoulders glanced at you. You noticed the immediate change in his expression: from hot-headed anger to understanding the situation and standing by their decision to help you.
He sighed once again, "well, we need to get moving, okay? Z’s are moving in from the east. We're waiting in the cars," he told the two boys before turning to Jimin with his back to you.
"Do whatever you need to do, but sort this out fast," He murmured to Jimin, who nodded and reassured his hyung by patting him on the shoulder. He didn't know you could hear him.
"Y/N," Jungkook's voice drew your attention back to him. You didn't realise how close he was to you. You could every facial detail of his: his big eyes, a silver ring on the side of his lip, long black hair, multiple ear piercings, his round cheeks. It was amazing how he looked so maintained for a month into the apocalypse. You could only imagine how scruffy you looked. You just knew your hair was all over the place. “Where are you going?"
Where were you going? Well, shit. You never thought about that. You never thought you would ever make it beyond the convenience store. But you weren't even in Seoul anymore. There was no way you could make it back to your apartment alive right?
"I don't know," you answered honestly, "I live in Seoul but I can only imagine how difficult it would be to get back."
Jungkook sighed, agreeing with you, "We live in Seoul too. But it's gotten worse with zombies. They're everywhere now. It's impossible to leave, let alone get in."
You sighed, dipping your head into your hands just for a moment to think. You were homeless. You had nowhere to go. And in the middle of an apocalypse? You wouldn't last a night by yourself.
"We're heading to Mokpo," Jungkook shared with you. You lifted your head back up to look at him. He noticed your glossy eyes and for some reason it pained him to see you upset, "we’ve heard there’s an evacuation camp set up there and the survivors are evacuating to Jeju Island.”
You nodded, taking in the sudden information. But it seemed like you didn’t get Jungkook’s point so quickly, “you can come with us,” he added.
You blankly stared at him, glancing between him and Jimin. Jimin only smiled at you, Jungkook eagerly looked at you, awaiting an answer. Well, what the heck. Where else could you possibly go?
“Okay then,” a weak but joyful smile appeared on your face.
Jungkook’s smile widened, “okay? Okay! Perfect! Okay, well we have to get going now,” he stood up, helping you up shortly after, “you alright to walk?”
You nodded, “yes I just need my bag from their car,” you nodded to Kang and Gihoon still unconscious. Jimin took it upon himself to go retrieve it, saying he’ll meet you both in the car.
“Sweetheart,” you heard a groggy moan coming from behind you. You turned to see Kang still sprawled on the floor but trying to lift his head up to look at you. All that hatred and fury rose back up inside you hearing that stupid nickname that you had picked up a large rock and were already walking towards Kang without thinking.
“It’s Y/N you bastard!” you yelled at him, raising the rock and smashing it onto his head in a fit of rage. You knocked him out of consciousness. You made sure he was still breathing though, not having the intention of killing him but simply serving your revenge.
Jungkook found himself smiling at you. Usually, he doesn’t condone violence, but your actions didn’t anger him. Matter of fact, he felt a sense of justice had been achieved. He was proud of you.
Tumblr media
When you agreed to join Jungkook in his group's journey to Mokpo, you didn't expect to meet four more strangers who made up their group of seven. You were overwhelmed enough simply meeting Jungkook and Jimin in the most random way.
You hadn't been around a lot of people in a while that it was daunting to you. Especially when they were all men. Yes, you were the only girl out of the seven men. Now you and men didn't really have a good connection, you tend to not trust nor get along with them. Especially with your most recent encounter with Kang and Gihoon. The compatibility bar was at a whopping 1%.
You started to have second doubts about joining Jungkook and his crew. Maybe you could run away while they're asleep. Take some of their supplies, food, weapons, and maybe you're good to go solo. But you decided to sleep on running away for now. After all, Jimin and Jungkook did kind of just save you. You owed them. But you continued to keep your guard up, just in case.
You found yourself in a public parking lot only a minutes walk away. The lot was dusted clean, only a small Suzuki rested in the corner. There were two cars opened and occupied, obviously belonging to Jungkook's friends. One was a Jeep Wrangler while the other was a Hyundai Palisade. It was intimidating to feel six pairs of eyes on you all at once. But you put on a brave face nevertheless.
"Guys, this is Y/N," Jungkook announced to them. They all appeared youthful looking, somewhere in their 20s, all likely around the same age group as you. There was an uncomfortable silence as they shared looks between themselves, "she's coming with us to Mokpo."
You awkwardly smiled as they all stared at you at once, shifting on your two feet as you gave a little wave, "hi guys."
One of them decided to make the first introduction, hopping out the car to extend his hand to you. The first thing you noticed was that he was a whole head taller than you. He had broad shoulders and big biceps - a combination of broad shoulders from earlier and Jungkook's own muscular biceps, which you happened to accidentally notice about Jungkook. He had short black hair up to his eyebrows and skinny almond-shaped eyes that stood out among the rest.
"Hi, my name’s Namjoon, it's nice to meet you Y/N," he greeted you. You shook his hand as he continued, "Jimin’s already informed us on what happened earlier. I’m so sorry that happened to you.”
You managed to give him a weak smile, unsure how to feel about the sudden sympathy and that these strangers all know your business, “thank you.”
Namjoon gestured towards the Hyundai, “you must be hungry, we have lots of water and snacks in the car.”
You nodded but he noticed your hesitation as you stared at the strangers in the car, “don’t worry, we’re all friendly. You’ve already met Jimin. He’s very kind, he will take good care of you,” he pointed at Jimin sitting in the passenger seat, “that’s Yoongi. He‘s the type that’s hard on the outside but soft on the inside so don’t be alarmed if he appears distant,” he pointed to the man sitting in the drivers seat, who's zoned out into the distance, “and in the back there is Taehyung. Just a warning, he doesn’t know what boundaries are so please don’t mind him,” he pointed at the man resting on his arms against the open window. He eagerly waved at you with a big smile on his face when he noticed you staring. You waved back, chuckling at how pure he seemed.
"And over in the Jeep is Jin," he pointed to the man with broad shoulders from earlier sitting in the drivers seat, "and Hoseok in the back," he referred to the man with prominent cheekbones standing watch through the sun roof.
“Thanks Namjoon,” you thanked him for the brief introductions before walking to the car. You spotted Jungkook putting a helmet on his head and the question came out your mouth before you could even think.
“Are you not coming?” you asked clearly confused, a slight frown adorning your face. Jungkook chuckled, moving to reveal a motorcycle behind him.
“I’m coming, don’t you worry now Y/N,” he assured you, a hint of teasing in his voice, as he swung a leg over it, settling in the drivers seat.
“Oh okay,” you muttered, embarrassed you came off more worried than you intended, “be safe.”
Jungkook smiled at your awkwardness, saluting you with two fingers, “always.”
“Zombies! Let’s make a move!” you heard Namjoon’s voice yell from the Jeep.
In the distance a herd of zombies had gathered down the street. They started stumbling in your direction after hearing the roar of three engines at once. You jumped in the car to find your backpack already waiting for you and an eager seatmate by the name of Taehyung, pulling you into a very welcoming and rather tight hug. This you should've seen coming, considering Namjoon's warning. You weren’t really a physical touch kind of person. But you never knew that was the kind of healing you needed most.
Tumblr media
In the short time you've spent in the car with Taehyung, Jimin, and Yoongi, you learned three things:
One:
Taehyung LOVES to talk (not that you're complaining. You enjoy hearing him blab on about the most random things, or oversharing embarrassing stories about Jimin)
Two:
Jimin is the most considerate person you've ever met (he asks if you're hungry, thirsty, too cold, too hot, feeling sick, feeling tired, the list can go on)
Three:
Namjoon was right about Yoongi (he seemed uninterested in you but then again asked you many questions about yourself, your hobbies, and your life pre-z)
You must've gained at least three kilograms from stuffing your face full of snacks. They had rice crackers, canned soup, water bottles, and most importantly, Doritos your favourite flavour 'Sweet Thai Chilli'. Taehyung kept you company throughout the drive, informing you all about his plan for when the apocalypse is over.
"I'm going to open up a dog cafe where you can eat with dogs surrounding you," he told you (and the entire car too), "and I'll let dog owners bring their dogs too. Oh! And I'll also serve dog food for free because the dogs deserve to eat as well."
You laughed. It was a pretty solid plan he had. You liked his enthusiasm and that he dreamt big for the future. You admired his hope. It bought you your own sense of hope. That there's some kind of normality that comes after all of this. But just as you opened your mouth to say something, Yoongi muttered, "Why're they slowing down?"
You sat up to look out the windscreen as everyone's attention diverted to the cars in front. You could hear the roar of Jungkook's motorcycle die down as he came to a stop. The Jeep in front of you too came to a halt as well. You could see Jungkook frantically pointing to the floor as Namjoon got out the car to see what he was talking about. Based off the panic you could see on Jungkook's face and the seriousness of Namjoon's, you could tell that whatever stopped them wasn't a good thing. As soon as Yoongi stopped the car, they all got out to join the others. You followed behind them shortly, slinging your backpack on in a hurry.
"What's going on?" Yoongi asked Namjoon. Everyone had crowded around Namjoon. He was staring down at the floor, everyone else followed. You were driven by curiosity, legs moving closer to see what he was looking at.
Lined horizontally along the road was a skinny row of spike strips. They blended so well into the asphalt concrete that they were nearly invisible. It would have been impossible to have seen that while driving. And it would have been too late to do anything about it once all your tyres are flat.
"Who leaves spike strips in the middle of a tunnel like that?" Jin complained as Namjoon bent down to inspect further. It only took you a couple seconds to realise how much danger you were in until it was too late.
"Hands in the air or we'll shoot your brains out!"
a/n: it's pretty hypocritical that i HATE when k-pop fanfics include random korean romanized words in their writing but i literally did exactly that 😭😭 don't attack me ok 😔 i just thought it fit better rather than putting jin's name because i can literally hear jungkook complaining like that BAHAHAHA 🤣 you can't tell me u don't hear it too ✋
anyways thanks for reading my pookie bums xoxo i hope u enjoyed this part, i love u all mwah mwah 😙😙

Part 06: Sensei Jimin🧟
“Are you alright? Did those bastards hurt you? I swear to God if they touched you in any way—”
Jungkook bombarded you with questions as soon as you all sat down to rest at a random intersection, after running at least two blocks away without a break. You were busy trying to catch your breath while Jungkook looked like he barely broke a sweat. You were still in shock and overwhelmed at what you’ve just witnessed. A disturbing doctor, nearly being tricked into eating zombies, cannibalism, the list can go on.
Just seeing Jungkook and being with him healed your soul. You were thankful to be alive and you were thankful he was alive too. So much so you had pulled him into a hug without even thinking about it.
It was one way to immediately shut him up. He stood paralysed, unsure how to breathe, think, or act. When the gears in his brain started to work again, you felt his strong arms wrapped around your waist bringing you closer to his warm body. Jungkook could literally feel your racing heartbeat through your back. And you could feel his through his chest. He was all you needed to remind you life was worth the little things.
“Thank you Kook,” you mumbled into his chest. Hearing you shorten his name like that had him feeling butterflies in his stomach. Only his close friends occasionally called him ‘Kook’, but it hit different coming out of your mouth. He wanted to hear you call him that ten more times. “Thank you for coming back and saving us. Saving me.”
He leaned his chin on your head, grateful you were safe in his arms, “always.”
“Is everyone okay? Nobody ate the soup, right?” Namjoon asked everyone, hands on his knees as he recharged his physical battery.
You and Jungkook pulled away from each other to join the rest. Everyone replied an exhausted ‘no’ between breaths to Namjoon’s question. You sat down next to Yoongi, checking up on him and thanking him for his rescue mission efforts. Jungkook went to go sit down next to Jin, who had some teasing tricks up his sleeve.
“Jungkook definitely had a spoonful or two. Did anyone see how fast he picked up that bowl?” Jin teased him, playfully nudging him as Jungkook hit him on the shoulder in retaliation. Hoseok and Taehyung bursted out laughing.
“Our Jungkook-ie’s a true gentleman now,” Jimin joined in on the teasing on his brother as the four of them all laughed together. Jungkook rubbed at the back of his neck in embarrassment. His round cheeks turned a faint rosy pink colour as he met your gaze. You were smiling at him, softly laughing along with the cheeky men. Seeing your smile made him forget he was ever self-conscious.
“Jokes aside, my arm feels like it's going to fall off,” Yoongi groaned, sliding off a chunky army backpack from around his shoulder and ditching it on the ground. He unzipped it to reveal handguns, ammunition, walkie-talkies, and body gear packed inside, "take your pick lady and gentlemen."
The boys were in awe of the different type of gems the duo managed to get their hands on. While they crowded around Yoongi, Namjoon gently pulled you to the side.
"I'm sorry Y/N," he apologised causing a puzzled frown on your face, but before you could ask any questions he continued, "you were right to be suspicious about those missing zombie parts. And I feel very ashamed I shut you down like that. I feel like if I listened to you, maybe we could've avoided that entire thing," he sighed heavily, looking down while burying his head in his hands.
You shook your head in disagreement, "there was no way we could've known any of that was going to happen. So please don't blame yourself," you tried to comfort him, but it did very little. He was still disappointed in himself and remained quiet, lost in deep rumination. That's when you had a thought.
"Who's idea was code purple?" you whispered to him softly after a moment of silence.
He glanced up at you, thinking for a second before answering, "it was mine."
"What's the reasoning behind it?" you asked. Namjoon didn't understand the sudden interrogation behind code purple but he answered your question regardless.
"I made it up in case we ever got split up and had to try find each other again. We decided if that were to ever happen, we just had to trust each other and that it'd all work out somehow and we'd all meet again," he explained to you nonchalantly. It was a very intellectual idea. You admired his sense of foresight.
"I think code purple is what saved us," you told him, giving him a small smile. He stared at you blankly like he didn't get your point, "you saved us Namjoon,” you clarified, emphasising on the 'you,' making sure your message got into his head.
"If you hadn't have set up that system, how could Yoongi and Jungkook have understood the situation? How could they have found us? With breadcrumbs?" you joked sarcastically, making him chuckle, a positive sign your pep talk was getting somewhere, "you make smart moves Namjoon. I understand why they look up to you so much," you referred to 'they' as in the boys. Briefly glancing at them, the younger ones were playing with handguns like they were in an action movie only to get scolded by the older ones.
"Don't let someone who deceived you doubt yourself and your abilities," you patted his shoulder just as Jungkook called you over, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
“Is he alright?” he whispered lowly into your ear as he kept an anxious eye on his brother.
“He’s fine,” you assured him, reaching out to rub his hand gently, “just needed a little motivation that’s all.”
And as if on cue, Namjoon stepped in to calm an overly excited Taehyung and Jimin from mishandling a gun before he addressed everyone, “it’s time we get the fuck out of here.”
Tumblr media
According to a tiny tourist paper map Yoongi found back at the police station, the next city to pass through was Osan. There was no way of making it there before nightfall. And there was no way any one of you wanted to stay another night in Suwon.
Once you all had journeyed as far as the sunlight allowed you to, Namjoon declared to spend the night at an old camping grounds close by. The boys found their confidence levels boosting with every kill they made with their new equipment. It was a bigger upgrade from their last weapons — a rusty axe and pepper spray. You, on the other hand, were still incapable of properly killing a zombie.
The only thing you felt confident using was a taser. It was simple for a simple girl like you. Just aim and tase. But that wouldn’t be very effective if you were ever swarmed. Plus the batteries could run out at any time, making it a very unreliable source.
The only other things you’ve used in the apocalypse have been a baseball bat and your pocket knife — sort of. You used your baseball bat to push away zombies to create enough distance for you to run away rather than kill them. And the only time you used your knife was to threaten Jungkook and Jimin the first time you guys met. Which according to Jungkook didn’t scare them at all. Only the boys have been killing zombies. You, so far, have been a bit useless.
You weren’t proud of it. You were actually embarrassed about it. So when the boys got busy building a fire and trying to catch fish from the nearby lake, you took it upon yourself to get some training in.
About a minute away, you found a good empty space of ground next to the lake to practice your shooting. You weren’t very familiar with guns. You assumed the one you had taken was a handgun, considering it was one of the smaller ones that fit nicely in your hand.
“You got this Y/N, you know what you’re doing” you motivated yourself, trying to convince yourself you had it under control. You held the gun in both your hands, arms fully extended as you aimed at a tree trunk in front of you.
Just as you were trying to adjust to the feel of it and sussing out your aim, you heard a low groan that did not sound so human. Appearing from behind a tree trunk was a thin and very rough looking zombie. Its clothes had been ripped and its blue-ish skin was covered in dirt, perfectly camouflaging into the brown nature. It looked like it’s been lurking in the woods for a while based off the state it was in.
It was still a good distance from you, not in much of a rush to get to you. It gave you enough time to aim at it, making it your very first target. Closing one eye for the most accurate aim, once you were satisfied you could hit him you pulled the trigger. But to your surprise, nothing came out.
You frowned, pulling it again but nothing came out again. And the zombie only came closer, closing the gap between you two.
“Shit! Why won’t it shoot!” you yelled, your frustration getting to you as you prepare to run before it’s too late.
“Turn off the manual safety,” you heard a familiar voice call from behind you, glancing back to find Jimin coming out from the bushes. Before you could yell what safety he quickly specified, “turn down the lever on the left side!”
You didn’t notice it before, the tiny lever on the side of the gun. The zombie was only an arms length away from you as you immediately pulled the trigger without properly aiming. Luckily, the bullet shot right into the zombies chest, killing it for the second time.
“Shit,” you breathed out, panting from the adrenaline pumping through your veins. Jimin appeared at your side, shaking his head in disapproval as he slipped the gun out your hands.
“Do I have to start keeping an eye on you missy?” he raised a brow while tucking the gun away in his pants, but not before turning on the manual safety.
You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms as he chuckled at your clumsiness, “I was just getting some training in, no big deal.”
Jimin gave you that ‘are-you-serious?’ look as he placed his hands on his hips, “no big deal but you nearly got yourself killed? Yeah I think we will leave the gun training for later,” he responded sassily making you giggle.
He picked up two long sturdy branches lying on the floor, handing one to you while he kept the other.
“Do you know how to sword fight?”
Of course you didn't know how to sword fight. Just another thing to add to the list of talents you don't have.
Jimin shared he learned kendo for about 8 years when he was younger. He explained to you that it was a form of Japanese martial arts with bamboo swords. It taught him all the basics of sword fighting. He enjoyed the thrill of it, fueling his innocent little dreams of wanting to become a pirate.
As he grew older, so did his love and hobby for sword-fighting. When he became old and mature enough he began to learn kenjutsu and iaido, which were more comprehensive and traditional forms of japanese sword-fighting.
"So you're like a samurai?" you joked as he adjusted your awkward-not-very-samurai-like stance, laughing at your comment.
"I guess so?" he answered, not so sure if he'd ever consider himself to be. But now that he was actually using his sword-fighting skills in the real world, especially to kill, he figured he might actually just qualify.
You spent nearly two hours learning the proper stance, how to hold your 'sword', as well as basic attack and defense techniques. Once you managed to roughly memorise those skills, Jimin decided to put your knowledge to the test by making you spar with him. That's when the sweet and kind Jimin you knew transformed into the merciless sensei you never knew was hiding inside him.
He did not go easy on you. He was very strict, quick to point out when you weren't using the proper stance, or if you weren't hitting him properly, or even if you were being too slow. Nor did he allow you many breaks. He told you it was for your own good, and although you did agree with him, part of you just wanted to collapse on the ground and do nothing for an hour.
By the time Jungkook came to interrupt your training session to inform you both dinner had been cooked, the sun had already set. There was a cool spring breeze in the air that gave you goosebumps, but that didn't bother Jimin's teaching mode. The first thing Jungkook noticed about you was how exhausted you were. But from the brief moment he saw you sparring he could tell you've learned a thing or two.
You were impressed to find a well-lit campfire and grilled fish awaiting you. The boys were huddled around the campfire, sharing bowls they stole from the grounds keeper's cabin between each other. Yoongi stood up, handing you a bowl of grilled fish and what appeared to be vegetable soup.
"Hope it's not too early to be having soup," he laughed with a mouthful of food lodged in his mouth, comfortingly patting your shoulder.
The rest of the night was followed by conversations, laughter, and stories from what life was like before the apocalypse as you all sat around the fireplace. In that brief moment it felt like there no apocalypse to begin with. You actually felt a sense of normality after the longest time of the most bizarre things ever known to man happening to you. It just felt like you were with a group of friends who spontaneously decided to go camping one day. You felt like you've known the boys forever. In a way their presence soothed you. To hear Hoseok's contagious laughter, to listen to Jimin's expressive story-telling, to eat Jin's well-cooked dinner despite the circumstances, and to feel protected by Jungkook. The world could end but as long as you're surrounded by your new friends, you felt like nothing could hurt you.
As the night deepened and the boys dozed off one by one, you on the other hand were wide awake. You had never struggled to fall asleep this much before. Even after twisting and turning your entire body. Maybe it was the uncomfortable hard ground or the chilly breeze against your skin. But you just could not fall asleep.
The only other person who was awake was Jin. He was first in line to stay up and keep watch. You offered to take over his job for him and let him have a sleep. He turned down your offer, keeping you company as you both talked for a bit. Until his eyes became redder and drier, he knew he was losing the battle between him and his self conscious begging him to sleep.
You were lucky the moon was full and shining above you, blessing you with its moonlight. The fire had to be put out before everyone slept to prevent attracting attention from zombies. You used to be terrified of the dark. Yet here you were. Sitting in the dark, outside, in silence, with just yourself. Strangely, it wasn't as scary as you previously believed. Matter of fact, it was somewhat relaxing.
Where you had set up camp was right next to the lake. You left your spot from next to Jungkook and went to sit on the bank, next to the water. The lake was gorgeous under the moonlight, taking your breath away. It reflected the off-white moon, the clusters of stars in the sky, and the silhouette of forest trees on the horizon. You could hear the calming sounds of water, crickets, and frogs croaking. It sounds gross but having a break from hearing the groan of zombies or something being killed was a nice change.
"You still up?"
Jungkook's voice startled you out of your thoughts. You turned around to find him rubbing his eyes as he yawned and stretched his arms, before making himself comfy next to you.
"Couldn't sleep," you sighed, your gaze lingering on the moonlit landscape in front of you.
"I understand that, you've been through quite a lot," he whispered softly. You felt his hand rest on top of yours, his thumb caressing your skin.
You let silence fill the atmosphere. It was somehow the loudest silence you've ever experienced.
"The last time I fell asleep," you started, glancing at him to find his big brown eyes giving you their fullest attention. Even in the dark under the restricted moonlight, you could still see his sparkling eyes, "I woke up and you weren't there."
Jungkook's relaxed expression immediately melted into concern as he pulled you into him without hesitation, "I'm sorry I left you by yourself."
"It's not your fault Kook," you wiggled out his grip to see his face and look him in the eyes, "it's just the shit world we live in. I can't trust this stupid world and the stupid things they do."
You felt ridiculous tearing up as it was just something of the past, but you felt ten times more embarrassed as you felt the tears roll down your cheeks. You couldn't look him in the eye anymore, glancing down as your face turned an angry red in shame.
Jungkook cupped your hot cheeks, wiping away your tears with the pad of his thumb. You felt a sense of deja vu, thinking back to the first time you met. Except this time, you didn't try cut his hand off.
"You're right to not trust the world," he muttered, gently pulling you closer to rest his lips on your forehead, giving you a light peck, "but you can trust me, okay? I'll always find a way back to you."
You couldn't say or do anything but just quietly cry in his arms as he comforted you. You aren't sure what came over you. Nor did you understand why you were so attached to Jungkook and why he was so attached to you. Why was he so willing to protect you? To take care of you? And always come back to you as he says? And why do you let him? Was it the lack of love in your life that made you crave his? Was it because your self-conscious felt safe enough around him and the rest of the boys that you've developed an unhealthy attachment to them?
You weren't so sure or understood anything in life anymore. The last thing you remembered before finally drifting off to sleep was Jungkook's body snuggled up close to yours as he gently caressed your hair.
Until you jolted up the next morning to Hoseok's frantic voice piercing your eardrums,
"He's gone!"

Part 05: Code Purple 🧟
The sky was painted a pretty ombré of yellow, orange, dark blue and purple. If it weren’t for the circumstances you were in, you would’ve definitely taken a photo and stayed to watch the sun set. But the sun setting was your number one problem at the moment as you hadn’t found shelter yet. Who knows what kinds of things could go wrong at night. Or what could kill you. Eat you.
Suwon was your average zombie-town. Not a single living thing lurking around apart from zombies. But there was something off about them.
They were more slower and less aggressive. Compared to Seoul Z’s, Suwon Z’s were angels. They were a breeze to get rid of, which was very fortunate for you guys as the only weapons on you were yours and Yoongi’s pocket knives. Other than that, it was up to everyone to go old school with their good ol’ fists.
But you noticed something very odd about these zombies. Something that couldn’t just be a weird coincidence.
“Namjoon,” you stopped the person closest to you. He was confused, about to ask why you stopped him in his tracks as you both fell to the back of the group. But he noticed the slight frown on your face, and that you weren’t looking at him but something behind him.
He followed your gaze, finding himself looking down a narrow and dim alleyway. He didn’t see it at first but when he saw it, he finally understood why it had your attention.
There on the ground was the upper body of an alive zombie crawling your way with one arm. There was no lower body. It had been cut off from the hip down, leaving its pelvic bone horrifically exposed. It was using its hand to drag itself across the pavement. But it was very gradual. Like it was trying so hard to get to where it wanted to go but was on the verge of giving up. There was just something so miserable about watching it struggle.
But the pity party wasn't the problem. Ever since you arrived, every zombie you’ve come across had some parts of it missing. It could be something small like an ear or an eye or something larger like two arms or a foot.
“Tell me you’ve noticed it too, how all these zombies are missing body parts,” you remarked, glancing at him.
“Yeah I noticed,” he sighed heavily, crossing his arms as he watched the hopeless half of a zombie slowly crawl its way to you, centimetre at a time.
“It can’t just be a coincidence, right?” you speculated, sharing your thoughts with him. He agreed with you, but it was difficult to find a reasonable explanation to this.
“Maybe they started eating each other? Ran out of humans?” he suggested, shrugging his shoulders. But you weren’t convinced.
“There’s no way,” you denied, pointing at the legless and single-armed zombie as you inspected it closer, “that doesn’t look like a bite mark to me.”
Namjoon had to admit you were right. The cut was too clean to have been bitten off, which completely crosses off his assumption. Could it have been a bear? A rabid mutated bear that feeds off of zombies? Or a gigantic mother zombie who is much more ruthless compared to normal ones? Many questions were raised that he honestly didn’t want to know the answer to.
“It’s suspicious, yes,” he admitted, “but let’s not focus too much on it. We still need to find a place to spend the night. Not to mention, food, water, and weapons. These guys are somehow the least of our problems right now,” he referred to the crawling zombie who was still somehow nowhere close to you. It barely made any progress.
“Okay, yeah, you’re right, let’s go,” you sighed, agreeing with him that you did have more important things to worry about. He patted you on the shoulder as you both rejoined the group further down the street. But your suspicions still weighed in your mind.
“Joon, we found a supermarket with food, water, torches, bandages, pain-killers, and other useful supplies like that. It was unlocked but we checked and it doesn’t seem like anyone’s inside,” Hoseok informed Namjoon as soon as he arrived. He nodded, observing the supermarket’s store front before giving it the all clear.
“Good job guys. Let’s stay here for tonight and make a move tomorrow morning,” Namjoon instructed, giving Jin and Hoseok beside him a pat on the back.
Everyone settled in very easily. You tried to as well, but the odd feeling in your gut made it difficult. It just wouldn’t go away. You felt uncomfortable in this city, like something was off about this place. You didn’t know if it was because of the zombies or something else about the town was bothering you. But it was strong enough that it affected you and the way you acted. And enough for the boys to notice too.
“You’ve been quiet,” Jungkook spoke from behind you as you were mindlessly browsing the crisps aisle. You jumped, glancing back to find Jungkook’s familiar face as you held your chest in an effort to calm your racing heart. He noticed you were badly shaken by his sudden appearance, something he did not intend to do.
“Hey,” Jungkook murmured in a gentle voice, placing his hands on your shoulders to turn you around, “it’s just me.”
You made eye contact with him. His frantic eyes and pinched eyebrows made you realise just how much this zombie mess was getting to your head.
“Sorry,” you apologised, embarrassed he had to see you like that, “I’m going crazy,” you shook your head, burying your face into your hands.
Jungkook breathed out, chuckling to himself, “We all are Y/N. It’s what the apocalypse does to you.”
You lifted your head up to see a small grin had appeared on his face. He grabbed a large packet of Doritos from the shelf behind you (your favourite flavour too), ripped it open, and settled down on the floor, “so I’m guessing this is somehow connected to whatever Namjoon and you were talking about earlier.”
You joined him on the floor, sitting opposite him as you both shared the packet of chips, “Yeah, but it’s kinda stupid now that I think about it,” you reflected your honest thoughts out loud to him.
“Nothing you think or say is stupid,” Jungkook replied, staring at you.
A shy smile appeared on your face as you looked away, unable to hold eye contact as you felt your cheeks heating up.
"Come on, let me know what's going on in that pretty head of yours," he said with handsome and intriguing eyes you just couldn't say no to.
You giggled at his smooth words and the cheeky smirk he had on his face, "I just thought it was weird how every zombie here was missing body parts, that's all."
He didn't say anything, just stared at you. A sour smile appeared on your face, "I told you it was stupid."
"No, I noticed it too," he admitted, you glanced at him, "and I think it's weird too. It doesn't seem like a coincidence to me."
You sighed in content, "right? I just know there's something more to it. Just have no idea what," you quietly trailed off, eyebrows furrowing together as you still couldn't think of a reasonable explanation to your theories.
"And I'm sure we'll find out when the time's right," Jungkook assured you, reaching out to cup your hand between his, "but you will not put yourself in harms way, I won't let you."
You frowned at him but continued to listen to him as he spoke, "I know we just met, but I really like you alive Y/N. I just want you to be safe. Whatever happened to those zombies, I don't want happening to you."
Your heart may have skipped a beat or two. Did he just confess he liked you? It was like a scene from a romance movie you would watch on TV. You just never knew how much butterflies it could give you in real life.
"Okay," you nodded, frown instantly melting away as a soft smile appeared on your lips, "I understand."
"Your hands are cold. Come here," he whispered tenderly, arms outstretching towards you. You didn't really need to move as Jungkook used his muscles to bring you himself. He turned you around, pulling you close so you rested nicely on his chest. He wrapped an arm around you to keep you warm and close.
"I heard skin on skin contact can help raise body temperature," he muttered an excuse against your head, you could feel his lips touching your hair.
Just as you were about to look up at him and say something, he stopped you, "Don't move or it won't work."
It was no use arguing with Jungkook when he was like a big fluffy bunny that had wrapped you up into his own personal pillow- burrito. Not that you were against it anyways. You were so close to him that you could hear his heart pounding against his hard chest. It was beating fast, like he'd just gone for a run even though you guys have been sitting here for the past 10 minutes. You nearly burst out laughing right then and there at his cuteness. Jeon Jungkook, you're not slick.
Tumblr media
You woke up to chatter between Namjoon and what sounded like a woman. You were in a different spot from where you last remembered, which was against Jungkook's chest. Your head was resting on towels, ones you previously saw on the shelf, and a thin blanket had been placed on top of you. The sky was no longer a pitch black but the sun shine was up and shining from the east, indicating it was the next morning.
"Yes Dr Baek, your hospitality is much appreciated but we're just about to head off-" you heard Namjoon say before being abruptly cut off.
"-Nonsense. We have showers, fresh clothes, and I will cook up a fresh soup for you all," she interrupted him, insisting him to take up her offers.
You looked around to find everyone mostly awake. You nudged the closest person next to you, Hoseok, and whispered discreetly to him, "what's going on?"
"Not that sure, I woke up to Namjoon talking to her too," he informed you, nodding toward the short, hunched-back black-and-grey-haired woman when he said 'her', "she's been telling him she and the remaining survivors of Suwon are in the city hall. And has been asking Namjoon and us to have a rest there."
You liked the sound of having a rest despite having a 5 hour sleep (which was the most you'd ever get in the apocalypse), "sounds nice. I could use a shower right now," you admitted, disliking how you've been sitting in your own dirt for a couple days now.
"Yeah, me too," Hoseok agreed quietly.
"Okay Doctor, we will stay until the afternoon. After that we will be on our way," Namjoon suggested a compromise to her. The Doctor's saggy cheeks and wrinkle lines lifted as she grinned, showing off what looked like dentures.
"Oh, everyone back at the hall will be so happy to have guests over," she gleamed, wrapping a hand around Namjoon's arm to help guide her out, taking him with her.
"Follow me, chop chop, this way!" she called behind her as Namjoon beckoned Jin to follow behind him closely. Jin was out the door as soon as he signalled for Hoseok to pack things up quickly and join them. Everything moved so fast and it didn't feel like any one of you had a choice. It was only when you counted five other heads, you noticed there were two missing.
"Jimin," you two were the last in the supermarket as Hoseok and Taehyung had already left with your bag freshly packed of supplies, "where's Jungkook and Yoongi?"
Jimin glanced behind him, as if to check there wasn't anybody around to listen, "they left earlier in the morning to see if they could find any weapons."
You nodded, unsure as to why that would be much of a secret, "okay, well we have to go find them to tell them we're going to the city hall." But Jimin gave you a 'not so sure that's going to happen' look.
"I think it's best they join us later," he told you, an evident frown appearing on your face that he cannot ignore, "let's check the hall out first. And if it's safe, we'll go get them."
You crossed your arms and sighed, "we can't just leave them," your disappointment doesn't go unnoticed by him.
He placed an arm on your shoulder to assure you, looking you dead in the eyes, "trust me I'd never leave my brothers behind," he promised you.
"Look," he revealed a permanent marker hiding in his hands. You watched as he wrote the letters 'CP' on the wall next to the door. It was small enough to not attract attention but big enough to see if you looked from the right angle.
"What does that mean?" you questioned, staring at it and thinking of all the possible meanings behind it. But Jimin shook his head with a smile as he dragged you out the store to quickly catch up with the others.
But not before he quietly whispered into your ear, "it stands for 'Code Purple'. It means trust."
Tumblr media
Jungkook and Yoongi were happy to have successfully found handguns and rifles at the local police station. They were lucky to find all the goods in there: loaded magazines, radios, walkie talkies, and a paper map. Just about all you guys needed to get back on your feet, literally. But Jungkook's smile immediately faded when he came back to an empty supermarket.
He couldn't help but think and worry about you first before his best friends who are like family to him. Was it selfish? Probably. Did he betray bro code? Probably. He felt like shit not thinking of his bros first. Like he was betraying his family for a girl he just met. He didn't want to feel this way towards his brothers, but there was no avoiding the way his heart felt about you.
The moment he first saw you wasn't even when he first met you. No. Jimin and him had been watching you since Kang very loudly pulled up to the gas station. The two of them were just about to scavenge it out for supplies when you made a very grand and unique entrance. Jimin insisted on waiting for you all to leave to check out the gas station like planned, but Jungkook had forgotten all about the plan the moment he laid eyes on you. He thought you looked so beautiful and so graceful. But what boiled his blood was when he saw the way Kang treated you. He saw your hands tied up and him pushing you around like you were a rag doll. He was so pissed off that he was just getting away with this in broad daylight because it was the fucking apocalypse. He took his opportunity to save you when he saw Kang running towards the back of the store. He knew you were trying to make an escape. He couldn't just stand by and let you lose an unfair battle. He was up and moving before he realised it, giving Jimin no choice but to follow and help out the youngest one save you.
"Where the fuck did they go?" Jungkook exclaimed, quickly browsing down the aisles only to find it was only him and Yoongi there. He was panicking, losing his mind, while Yoongi quietly stood there examining the store.
"Relax Jungkook, they're fine," Yoongi tried to calm him while Jungkook paced around. He turned to glare at him, flames of rage in his eyes that Yoongi had never seen before in him.
"You don't know that," he said harshly, clenching his jaw as he leaned against the shelf to try and think more clearer. Yoongi knew the reason he was so worked up was because of you. Jungkook was anxious for you. He noticed Jungkook picking at the skin of his finger, a habit of his when he's anxious.
"But I do," Yoongi replied, pointing at the wall before Jungkook could ask questions. Jungkook had to pause, squint, and look closer to notice the letters 'CP' written in permanent marker. He glanced at Yoongi, unsure what happened while he was gone but knowing he just had to trust you all. But one thing's for sure, they knew they had to find you guys.
"Look," Yoongi pointed outside through the window to a street pole across the supermarket. Jungkook listened, looking closely to see the letters 'CP' written again in marker.
Yoongi heard the sound of Jungkook's boots clunking against the floor before hearing him say, "let's go."
Tumblr media
Jimin's words had been repeating in your head ever since you left the supermarket. Trust. Trust was such a powerful thing. So powerful it could make or break something or someone. In times of uncertainty, trust was the most valuable thing a person could have. It all just came down to whether that person chooses it, or not.
Along the way, Dr Baek told you guys all about life in the city hall since the apocalypse. The communal system she had set up, led by herself, seemed to work very well for her and those living in the hall. They had assigned each other different roles, each proving its own use to their way of life. Watch guards who kept the building perimeter secure of zombies, gardeners who produced fresh greenery in their own makeshift indoor garden, radio comms who had goals of repairing their battered radio signal, the maids who assisted Dr Baek with every task she gave, and Dr Baek being the only chef of the house who prepped everyone's meals. You had to admit it was very impressive what the Dr had set up.
As soon as you had arrived, the Dr ordered the maids to take you to get cleaned up. You enjoyed a cold but refreshing shower. The feeling of water and soap running down your hair and body was all you had been yearning for. They also gave you a plain t-shirt and skinny jeans while they took your clothes for washing, which you never consented to but thanked them for anyway.
The maids took you to the entrance of the main meeting hall when you finished. You found the others to already be waiting for you, all freshly showered and newly dressed too. Nobody seemed to understand what was happening as the maids quietly gathered you all. Once you were all there, they opened the doors to the hall. Inside revealed Dr Baek who stood on the small stage, in front of a podium, and every other survivor was seated in the front row chairs facing her. Everyone's attention turned to you all, the strangers on their door step.
"Here they come now everyone," Dr Baek announced as the maids ushered the group of you down the aisle. You all listened, awkwardly making eye contact with all the survivors as you walked past them. You swiftly counted about twelve heads, thirteen if you included Dr Baek. They watched you with blank faces and black pupils that never left you for a second. You were unsure whether they were happy, scared, sad, or angry. One thing's for sure their stares made you feel uncomfortable.
"Give a round of applause for our newcomers," Dr Baek shared excitedly into the microphone as you all stood in front of her, facing the crowd. The survivors began to clap all at once, and managed to stop all at once too, something that kind of creeped you out.
"They will be staying in the east wing-" the Dr began her speech, but Namjoon stopped her.
"Um, we aren't staying," he clarified to her, glancing at the very unwelcoming crowd, "we're just passing by, like I told you before," he gently reminded the old woman.
Dr Baek tilted her head, silently thinking to herself before she let out a chuckle, "silly me, how could I forget?"
There was something suspiciously fake sounding about her voice, like she was lying straight to your faces. Even Jimin had the same odd feeling as you caught his gaze from the corner of your eye.
"Well, everyone, it's quite sad our new friends cannot stay with us for long. Hence why we shall hold a special lunch in the dining hall now to send our beloved friends off," she declared to everyone. It was silent as the crowd blankly stared at you all as usual. You all exchanged glances between each other.
"You wouldn't leave with an empty stomache now, would you dear?" Dr Baek asked Namjoon in a way that he felt like he didn't have a choice.
He mustered a smile, "of course not Dr Baek," he glanced at you all, "we'd love to have lunch with you." You could see the message in his eyes: we're leaving straight after this.
"Brilliant," she smiled with her fake teeth, "everyone please make your way to the dining hall. Maids, please escort our friends," she ordered, before disappearing into another room with the assistance of two maids.
Her maids silently took you all to the dining hall before everyone else left. They took you around the east side of the building. You glanced outside the windows, finding the sun well above your heads. It was already midday, and you all were still stuck here. Jungkook and Yoongi crossed your mind in that instant. You wondered if they were okay, if they got Jimin's message, and if you'd ever see them again. Especially Jungkook.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Jungkook, the duo had followed the clever trail of CP's left behind. They easily recognised it to be Jimin's handwriting. When the trail stopped, they found themselves looking at Suwon City Hall. Both men were confused. Why the city hall?
That was until they spotted movement from inside through the windows. Yoongi used binoculars he found at the police station to get a closer look. And just as he had hoped, he saw you all. Namjoon, Jin, Jimin, Taehyung, Hoseok, and you. He confirmed it to Jungkook who practically snatched the binoculars out his hands to catch a glimpse of you before you disappeared again. You appeared calm, not afraid, but you were surrounded by unfamiliar people, people dressed in the same maid's uniform. There had to be about four leading the six of you. They didn't look like they've caused trouble. But the two also knew they would've been searched for to make a move all together. Obviously, they were left out the picture for a good reason. And both of them knew the reason.
They explored the perimeter from a distance, conducting their safest bet at sneaking in was through the back door. Jungkook and Yoongi were not exactly sure what they were doing. All they knew was that you all were heading to the east side of the building and right now the pair were at the south-west side.
They agreed to move to the east, mostly because Jungkook persisted and Yoongi wasn't one to say no to him. Jungkook needed his eyes on you. He had to make sure you were okay and not hurt.
They snuck between hallways, checking every corner they turned at to make sure the coast was clear. They would provide no help to you guys if they got caught. They didn't know how dangerous these people were. They had to assume the worst.
After entering and exiting out of similar hallways, Yoongi and Jungkook found themselves in what seemed like an industrial kitchen. But the first thing they both noticed was the horrid stench hitting their noses.
"What the fuck is that smell?" Jungkook cursed under his breath to Yoongi as he plugged his nose and glanced back at his older brother.
"No idea," Yoongi whispered back, his face scrunching in disapproval. Just as Jungkook saw the exit and was going to make a beeline for it, Yoongi tugged on his shirt sleeve.
"What?" he asked, turning back to find Yoongi staring in horror at the kitchen bench. Jungkook followed his gaze, and nearly threw up the instant noodles he ate before.
There on the metal table was the body of a zombie that had been violently mangled and sliced. The eyes rested on a plate, its limbs were crushed and put inside a bowl, and its legs were brutally cut up into slices and chunks.
Jungkook felt the noodles coming up, finding the nearest pot to let it out, only to find a mutated zombie boiling in water. And he swore the pupils on its eyes looked up at him. He ended up vomiting in the corner.
"We need to find them now," Yoongi told him after he finished, drawing out his gun from its holster.

Somehow, when you made it into the dining hall everybody was already seated. You noticed seating was separated by gender, boys sitting on the left side and girls sitting on the right side. The dining hall consisted of a long rectangular table facing vertically in the middle of the room. It was decorated in a classic gold table cloth with candlesticks lined down the middle. The maids sat you down in a velvet cushioned chair. You hated every awkward second that passed.
The main doors opened to reveal Dr Baek. Followed behind her was a maid pushing a tray cart filled with bowls of what appeared to be soup. A wicked stench hit your nose as the cart passed by, causing your face to scrunch up as the maid served everyone's bowls. Glancing across at the boys, they seemed to have smelt the stench too. And by glancing at everyone else and judging by their blank faces, this might just be weirdly normal to them.
Dr Baek sat at the head of the table. Unfortunately, you had the blessing of having the seat right next to her. She gave you a wide smile, showing off her dentures. You forced a smile back before looking down at your food, uninterested in making small talk. You inspected it and it did not smell or look appetizing whatsoever. The soup juice was a transparent dark green colour while there were small chunks of what looked like brown beef. You wanted to be grateful for having food during the apocalypse, but you would rather starve than eat whatever was in that bowl. No offence to the Dr but you literally felt like throwing up.
"You may all eat," the old woman announced. At that moment, all the survivors dug into their bowls, slurping up the entire thing like it was their last meal. On the other hand, you and the boys were struggling to even breathe near the food.
The old woman glanced at you, sensing how tense you were, "I made this soup myself. It's a beef soup. It's not the best but I'm just using whatever I have," she sighed, making you feel a bit bad.
Jin poked at the beef with his spoon, "and where'd you get the beef from?"
She glanced at him, hesitating before she answered, "from a can."
"This," you frowned, holding up a chunk of beef in your spoon to eye level, "is from a can?" you asked in disbelief, eyebrows raised. It looked like it had been expired, eaten, thrown up, run over, and then put into your bowl.
"Yes, it's very delicious and good for health my dear. I think you should have a bite," the Dr insisted you, "it would make me very happy. And then you're free to leave."
You fought everything inside you to not roll your eyes. Fine, you thought, if it means we finally get to leave.
But just as you were about to suck it up and take a spoonful in your mouth, the main doors burst open.
"Jungkook? Yoongi?" you exclaimed in disbelief at the two men reappearance. They stood in the doorway, pointing guns at everyone.
"Don't eat the food!" he yelled at the same time as you spoke, pointing his gun at the unfamiliar faces, unsure who his target should be, "it's made of zombies!"
You pushed the bowl away in disgust, nearly hurling right then and there. The boys did the same, quickly getting out their seats. This was your cue to leave. The survivors all crawled underneath the table, shaking in fear from Yoongi pointing a gun at them. This was your first time seeing their faces move a muscle.
Just as you were about to get up, an old flabby arm wrapped around your neck, pulling you back into Dr Baek's chest. She had you in a headlock, but you couldn't fight back when you felt the tip of a sharp knife pressed against your cheek.
"I'll rip this girls face off and make a soup out of it!" she screamed, bursting your eardrums as you flailed about in her arm. She was surprisingly strong for someone her age.
"No!" you cried, fingers trying to make room between your neck and her arm. She was going to strangle you to death before she peeled your face off.
"Get the fuck away from her!" Jungkook demanded her, aiming his gun straight at her. But there was no way he could get a clean shot without risking hitting you. And the Dr knew that.
"You seem to care about this girl a lot, young man," she noticed, her voice hiding sinister intentions you would've never expected from a small elderly woman like her, "eat my soup and I'll let your doll run free."
Jungkook glanced between the crazy woman, the soup, and you. He knew he'd reached another level of insanity when he genuinely started considering her offer. He would do anything for you and he meant it. And if that meant eating zombie chow to make sure you were safe, he'd do it.
"Okay," he muttered, lowering his gun as he stared at a bowl full of zombie soup. He felt round two of vomit coming up. But he had to do this. He had to. For you.
"No! Don't!" you yelled at him. You bit down with your teeth as hard as you could on Dr Baek's flabby wrinkly arms. Luckily it did not take much for her to pull away shrieking. At that moment you heard a gun shot. It rung in your ears. You dived to the floor, unsure where that shot hit, but the adrenaline pumping through you had you quickly crawling away.
Chaos erupted in the dining hall again as the survivors quivered in fear from the gunshot while Dr Baek screamed in agonizing pain. You found Jungkook kneel down in front of you, the same sight you saw when you first met him, giving you a sense of deja vu. He pulled you up to your feet, instructing you that you needed to go. But you were so happy to see him. You started tearing up as you pulled him into a hug. You inhaled his soft scent of cologne and men's deodorant, something that would only remind you of him. He hugged you back only tighter. But it was only a couple seconds long before you both pulled back. Jungkook's hand found yours as he quickly led you out.
You spared a quick glance back to find Dr Baek slumped over unconscious in her chair. Her entire upper body was covered in crimson red and you noticed a small bullet-shaped hole in her shirt. But what creeped you out the most was the way the survivors had crowded around her in a circle. Their creepy black pupils stared at her, not in grief or sorrow, but in hunger. The last thing you saw was the circle slowly closing in before they sunk their teeth into her raw flesh.

Part 02: The Kidnapping 🧟
You woke up to a killer migraine, groaning as you came back to your senses. Only to realise you were in the backseat of a car.
Had the apocalypse only been a long dream? Were you back in reality?
Your short-lived hopes were destroyed when you realised your hands were bound behind you and your feet were tied together.
"Fuck," you cursed but it comes out inaudible. You realised there was tape on your mouth, sealing your lips together. 'Fuck' you think.
You sat up but your head spinning made you dizzy and your vision blurry. Black dots painted your eyes before they cleared a few seconds later.
"She's awake," you heard a man's voice say. That's when you noticed two men sitting in the front seats.
"Just leave her, she's tied up anyways," you recognised that voice belonging to be the man who saved you from that zombie. Right before you blacked out. You obviously could put two and two together considering the situation. You have been kidnapped.
You looking around at your surroundings. You were in a car, a speeding car. The middle-aged man was driving while the younger one sat in the passenger. You were on the highway, driving south from Seoul and into the neighbouring cities. There weren't many cars, only some abandoned but luckily not blocking the road. A few zombies were attracted to the noise made from the car engine but were too slow to chase. He was travelling fast. Too fast that you wish you had a seatbelt on before you go flying out the car.
You tried to say 'hey' but it obviously came out muffled. They don't pay attention. You tried screaming, and though it comes out as muffled, it is loud and a pain to their ears. The younger one blocks his ears while the older one glanced back at you.
"Shut the fuck up," he barked at you rudely. You once thought he was your saviour. You can't believe the situation you're in now. Never once in the apocalyptic world would you have thought you'd be kidnapped.
You rolled your eyes and frowned. You bought your knees up to your stomach and kicked at the older man's chair as hard as you could. Not once, not twice, but many times until he turned around to grip at your leg.
You yelped behind the tape. Not only because his hand was squeezing your leg so tight that it hurt but because he wasn't watching the road and the car swerved around violently. The man couldn't give two shits though. The younger man took over the wheel for him in the meantime as the man glared at you with burning rage in his eyes.
"I'll make you fucking regret that shit, so stop while I'm asking nicely," he spat through gritted teeth. You only return the bitchy glare. He throws your leg away, leaving a red mark on your skin. 'Fucking crazy bitch' you thought.
You made noises behind your tape to get their attention, but when it didn't work, you kicked the younger one's chair. Multiple times before he finally turned around with an unamused and annoyed expression.
"What," is all he says.
You motioned to your lips, hinting for him to take the tape off. He sighed, glancing at the older male who only nodded. The younger one reached to your mouth and yanked the tape off.
"Ah!" You winced in pain, which the younger one didn't seem to care and most likely did it on purpose, "fuck, couldn't you have done that any gentler?"
"You're fucking annoying," he replied. Well. At least you got a reply.
You scoffed, rolling your eyes as your anger boiled inside you, "your the ones who kidnapped me! Does it look like I want to be here?"
"I want to put the tape back on," the younger one groaned, sinking into his seat and covering his ears.
"No let her speak. I want to hear that pretty voice," the older man spoke, his voice a tad bit whiny and strained.
You nearly threw up on the spot, "the fuck did you say, pervert?"
You watched his eyes move from the road to you, staring at you with hidden motives and shameless sins. A chuckle roared from his throat, “I like you sweetheart. You can be annoying but you’re feisty and beautiful, my ideal type.”
You cringed, instantly shutting up. You sank into your seat, feeling disgusting and disturbed. That’s when you knew you had to get away as soon as you could. You didn’t appreciate the unwanted attention and you disliked all the negative signs these men were giving you. Your future with them was not looking so bright. It’s great to know men never fucking change, even among an apocalypse.
You remained quiet the rest of the trip. You passed the time by planning your escape plan. You do not see any resources apart from your bag on the floor. You know the eldest one owns a knife, the youngest probably has something of his own too. So you know they’re armed. But so are you. If they hadn’t gone through your bag, your taser would still be in there. It’s likely the pocket knife in your bra is still there too. The only problem was that your hands and feet are tied. If you managed to get free or slip away, you might have the chance to take your stuff and leave. But you’re not sure how willing this man might be to have you leave without putting up a fight.
You switched off the main highway at Yangjae and changed again to enter Seonam-dong. You weren’t sure if it was a good idea to drive a car into a neighbourhood where zombies could hear and come running but it obviously doesn’t scare them.
“Go to Gwacheon. They were one of the few towns evacuated,” the younger one suggested to the older one. The older one seemed to be like that idea.
“Have you ever been to Gwacheon before, sweetheart?” the older one asked in teasing way. His curious eyes watch you through the rear view mirror. He stared at you more frequently than he did at the road, making you visibly uncomfortable. You felt physically ill hearing that corny nickname come out his mouth.
“Don’t call me that," you grumbled under your breath.
He ignored your comment, turning to the younger one instead, "find me a motel, Gihoon. A pretty one for the pretty lady in the back." He glanced at you through the mirror with an evil smile on his lips. If your hands were free, you'd be pointing the middle finger at him.
Tumblr media
Gwacheon was a ghost town.
Nobody was here. Alive nor undead. It's like the town was abandoned before anyone could turn zombie. Gihoon (if you remembered his name correctly) was right. It did seem like the town was evacuated before the virus could wreck its havoc.
Most of the town was still intact. Supermarkets were still full of stock, cars were still parked neatly to the sides, and the streets weren't filled with guts and blood like Seoul was. This was a hidden haven among the apocalypse.
The older man, whom you still don't know the name of, pulled up roughly into a random gas station.
"Take the bag and fill it," he commanded Gihoon, handing him a duffel bag while referring to the yet-to-be-looted convenience store that accompanied the station. You took note of the slight glimpse you got of the crowbar in Gihoon's hand.
"You sit tight," the older one demanded at you as he got out to refill the car's tank. You rolled your eyes. Like there was anything else you could do.
His beady eyes watched you closely, noting down your every move. It was not safe for you to try anything physical. You glanced into the store, Gihoon was still inside, you could see him hastily weaving between aisles. That's when you had an idea. If you couldn't overpower them, maybe you could persuade them in a way.
"Hey!" you called for the older man. He was there in a second, leaning into your open window. He had a smug look on his face that made you cringe.
"I need to pee" you tell him. He only laughed coldly.
"Don't pull that bullshit on me" He scoffed, already retracting back. Just then, you heard the crunch of glass and Gihoon's returning footsteps. You knew you were about to move again. This was your only chance for who knows how long it'll be.
"Please," you begged, forcing a slight pout on your lips, which the older man enjoyed to see, fucking creep, "I drank a lot of water at the store," you whined, too dramatic for your liking but done with enough effort that you had hope he would crack.
He pondered for a bit, before finally giving in to your request. You had to physically restrict yourself from leaping for joy. He cut the cable ties that restricted your feet together.
"Take her," he pushed you towards Gihoon. You huffed as he dragged you forcefully inside the store.
"I know you don't like me Giheon-" you spoke up before being rudely interrupted.
"It's Gihoon," he corrected you.
"Giheon, Gihoon, same thing," you rolled your eyes, "y'know I don't like you too. And I'm sure you would love it if I left, and I would be happy to do that, if you just-"
He opened the bathroom door and pushed you inside, slamming the door in your face before you could finish. Rude bitch.
Now you didn't actually need to go pee. But you spotted a window above the toilet. A tight squeeze but you could make it work.
Just your luck, the broken ceramic sink looked just sharp enough to be able to cut through the cable tie. You moved quick, squatting into an awkward position just as loud knocks banged on your door.
"Kang says to hurry it up," you heard Gihoon's voice from behind the door.
"Yeah, hold on! I'm taking a shit!" you yelled back, shamelessly lying through your teeth.
In that moment, you heard something snap and your wrists fall free. You quickly ran up to the window, standing on the toilet seat to reach as you quietly pushed it open. It was just the back of the store. Gravel and dumpsters, nothing special, but no sign of Kang or Gihoon.
You pushed yourself through the window, suffering a hard fall onto the ground. You tried your best to ignore the pain as you started to get up. But a tall, bulky man had you stop in your tracks.
"Going somewhere, sweetheart?" Kang asked with the same teasingly eerie smile from when he knocked you out.
"Fuck," you groaned, still in pain from the fall. You turned around to see Gihoon had arrived to join the party just in time. You were trapped between the two, and the window was too high to jump back through.
Before your kidnappers could even move closer to you, you saw Kang collapse onto the ground just in time. Behind him revealed a strong, tall but younger man. Seemingly looking like he's in his 20s just like you. You saw from the corner of your eye Gihoon getting knocked out too, dropping to the ground. Behind him was a slim man not as muscular-looking as the other guy and looking like he's in his mid to late 20s. Shit, you groaned in your head. They were armed. You noticed the slim man held a wooden plank in his hand and the muscular one held a large rock in his. You snuck a hand into your bra to feel for your pocket knife, securing it in your hand and pointing it at the first person you saw when you turned around, the muscular one.
"Get the fuck away from me!" you yelled, pointing the blunt-ish knife at them in an effort to scare them off. The muscular one had bent down to you, but leaned back when you swung your knife at him. The slim one was slightly alarmed but kept his cool. They frowned, dropping their weapons as they held their hands up.
"Hey, it's alright, we're not going to hurt you, we just saved you," the muscular one assured you, but you were still wary of their intentions.
"Those guys also saved me, but then they kidnapped me," you snapped back, motioning to the two men lying unconscious on the ground, "how do I know you won't do the same thing to me?"
"Because we just want to make sure you're okay," he replied calmly, reaching out to you. You pointed the knife at him but he reassured you he won't hurt you. You felt his hand cup your cheek and before you could protest against this, you felt your cheek sting.
"Ah!" you winced as he rubbed his thumb against your skin. You didn't know how to feel about a random stranger literally caressing your face, but you felt strangely comforted enough to not stop him.
"You've been cut," he whispered. His big brown eyes stared at your cheek with worry. He's the first person who's shown care toward you since the apocalypse. In a way it healed the person who suffered alone in her apartment for a month.
"Jimin," he held out his hand to the slimmer guy, who stood slightly off to the side. He understood immediately, sliding the backpack sitting on his shoulder and handing it to him. He searched through the bag, you couldn't see what was in there but held the knife against him just in case.
"Do you mind?" he asked, showing you the antibiotic ointment and a box of bandages he got. Something about his eyes intrigued you. The way he stared at you made you feel comforted and safe. Your gut told you his eyes were genuine, that he meant what he was saying, that all he wanted to do was help you. That his eyes spoke louder than words. You trusted him for some reason. Not that you thought that, but just felt it. You don't know who he is and you are cautious of him. But you felt safe enough around him.
You hesitated at first, lost for words, but just simply shook your head. He worked quickly: squeezing out the ointment onto your wound, but not before warning you of its sting, then covering it with a band-aid.
"So, what's your name?" he questioned, glancing at you curiously as he tidied your wound up.
"Y/N," you answered, "and you?"
He smiled. A warm crescent smile. Not like Kang's sinister smile. But a sincere one. One that made you feel at ease.
"Jungkook."

Part 04: Unpleasant Ambush 🧟
The hard feeling of cold steel pressed against the back of your head made you slowly raise your hands in the air. You were usually the rebellious type, not wanting to obey without a fight. But having a gun pointed at you was not really fair now, was it?
Multiple people started yelling at once, “get down on your knees!” You didn’t hesitate to listen, feeling the gun penetrate into your head harder as a way of asserting authority. The concrete felt cold and uncomfortable against your skin. You could feel the harsh tiny rocks scrape against you from under the thin material of your tights.
Your eyes sneakily danced around as much as they could without turning your head. From the corner of your eye, you could see Yoongi with his arms raised and held at gunpoint like you. In front of you was Namjoon. He wore a serious frown on his face while staring down whoever was behind you. Out of everyone, only Namjoon could see the perpetrators as he was the only one facing them.
“Put your hands up!” the stranger yelled in a loud and threatening way. You recognised the voice belonged to a woman. She had a deep and powerful shouting voice. It reminded you of those shows you used to watch on TV of reality boot camps and the female trainers had some of the most strongest military voices you had ever heard.
Namjoon, you presumed, stared at her. She seemed to have the leadership position among the ambushers. A quality you've also noticed in Namjoon in the brief time you've known him. He raised his hands up agonizingly slow before he spoke, “we don’t want any trouble.”
“On your knees now!” she ignored him, continuing to yell commands. You could hear clicks against steel, a noise you didn't think sounded so positive.
"Alright, alright," Namjoon complied, getting onto his knees with his arms raised in the air.
“We don’t want any trouble either,” the woman spoke in a more calmer tone but still sly sounding. You heard the car engines start up again. You watched as two men quickly removed the spike strips off the road. They're faces were covered in bandanas so you could only see their eyes. Cowardly bastards, you thought.
“No hard feelings everyone!” she said in a soulful voice like this was all a game to her. You felt the gun had retrieved back and shortly later you watched Jungkook’s motorcycle and their cars speed down the tunnel, disappearing into the distance. You could hear them cheer, celebrating by pumping their fists out in victory at the stunt they just pulled.
Their cheers and the noise from the cars died down and was soon replaced with the loudest silence between the eight of you. Jin was the first to speak up.
“They took mine and my brother's car,” you could hear in his voice he was trying his best to not cry. It broke your heart having to listen to him try not break down. You never realised the cars held such significance that the entire situation just now hit differently. They weren’t just some random cars, they actually meant something more to him because they belonged to him. You watched as Jin stood up to walk away, but you could hear his sobs only grow louder the further he walked. Jimin followed shortly behind him, likely going to console him. Since when had the apocalypse, apart from the zombies, become so cruel?
“Not to be a bitch, but um... all our food and water were kinda… in there,” Taehyung broke the painful silence. He received a harsh push on the arm from Jungkook, who had a clearly annoyed expression on his face. Taehyung groaned, rubbing his arm, but stopped himself from retaliating back to avoid making the situation even worse.
You glanced between the boys who were all sitting in deep reflection and shock about what just happened. Nobody could believe that all their supplies were gone in just a matter of seconds. There were eight of you, how on Earth could you find enough to support you all?
"Oh!" you piped up, suddenly remembering as you slipped off your backpack, "I have some food and water in my bag,” showing them your bag you had previously stuffed with snacks and water bottles back in Seoul.
A soft smile slowly returned to their faces, “that’s good,” Namjoon said gently, “it’s a start.”
You felt someone rubbing your shoulder. You turned around to find Jungkook, looking at you with a proud smile on his face. "Good job," he whispered to you. A smile naturally appeared on your face from his praise. But you quickly turned around when you felt your face heat up, smile fading when you realise he was making you blush. Get it together Y/N, you thought.
"I wonder where they got their guns from," Yoongi mused aloud. Hoseok hummed, agreeing with him.
"They could've stolen it from a police station," Taehyung responded, "maybe even a military base."
"Guns could provide us good protection," Yoongi said in a suggestive tone as he glanced at Namjoon, looking like he was seeking his approval. Namjoon nodded, agreeing with Yoongi while pondering in deep thought. He was likely imagining the pros and cons of carrying around guns.
"Plus we could maybe prevent a situation like this happening again if we were armed like they were," Yoongi continued, frustration obvious in his voice as he angrily ran his hands through his hair.
"And protect ourselves better from zombies," Jungkook added. Yoongi sent him an approval nod.
Speaking of zombies, you were lucky you were inside a tunnel. There weren't any abandoned cars nor zombies since it was a concealed space. Though, there was still a likeliness they'd find you in here, being attracted by the previous sound of loud vehicle engines. You were safe for now, but being without wheels left you much more vulnerable.
"We'll go to the next town. The sun has already passed halfway so we need to find some shelter to spend the night. Our other goals are to find weapons and more food. We can figure out what to do after that," Namjoon announced in a serious voice. It was clear to you Namjoon was the dedicated leading figure around here.
"Sounds good," Hoseok replied. Yoongi, Taehyung, and Jungkook nodded in response. They all silently turned their attention to you, glancing at you.
"How do you feel about that Y/N?" Namjoon asked, wanting you to have an input too.
You met his gaze with an enthusiastic smile, "let's fucking do it," you responded firmly.
Hoseok clapped his hands together eagerly with a pleased smile, "yes, that's the spirit Y/N! I'll go tell the other two," he stood up to head to where Jimin and Jin sat isolated. Jimin was rubbing Jin on the back while he sat there with a blank expression, zoned out on the ground. It was saddening to see Jin upset.
"Alright, let's make a move," Namjoon declared. You all got up and began to make the walk out of the miserable tunnel that bought you nothing but misfortune and a stronger sense of vigilance.
Tumblr media
It felt odd to be walking along the highway when usually you would be driving in speeds as high as 80-90 kilometres. The road was practically empty, apart from a couple of dead cars that were no use to you. But no soul in sight. Not even undead ones.
According to Yoongi and Namjoon, the next town is supposed to be Suwon if you followed the highway. But for now all you could see was mountains and bush since you were in the rural areas. It was alarming to you that you didn't know when you'd find the next town. But the boys admiring how beautiful Korea's landscape was made you forget about ever being worried as soon as you emersed yourself in the scenery too. It's only when you stop to think about how beautiful nature is that you realise how peaceful rural Korea is. Anyone could fall in love with it so easily.
"So," you started the conversation between you and Jungkook who hung at the back of the group, "how do you know them?"
Jungkook smiled to himself, "we all knew each other before the apocalypse."
"Oh really?" you marvelled. You shouldn't be so surprised. Thinking back it was obvious they all shared a bond that felt stronger than plain old friends, strong enough that even you could feel it.
"Yeah, we all met through Namjoon a few years back," he reminisced, sighing to himself as all the memories came flooding back to him, "we all just clicked instantly and have hung out all together since then."
You were impressed by their friendship, considering you've had a fair run of friends that come and go. "So were you guys all together at the beginning of all of this?"
"Yeah," Jungkook recalled, thinking back to the very traumatic day, "we were eating at a restaurant, celebrating Yoongi's birthday."
You frowned, glancing at him to find him staring down at the road. "That's so sad," is all you could say to him. You were at lost for words, unsure of the right thing to say.
Jungkook nodded in agreement, "it is. We had to camp out at a nearby supermarket for weeks until we ran out of food and water. We took Jin's car to his hometown, Gwacheon, and found his older brother there. He was the one who told us about Mokpo. He turned trying to save us."
You didn't say anything as you allowed yourself to absorb all this new information. Actually, you didn't know what to say about that. All you could do was feel for Jin. Loss is never easy. Jungkook glanced at you, smiling at the serious look on your face.
"Enough about us. What about you?" he asked.
"What do you mean about me?" you replied absent-minded.
Jungkook chuckled, nudging you playfully, "I mean like what's your story? What happened to you before we met?"
A sour look appeared on your face as the only memories you had were shit ones: every single day feeling like it lasted forever, getting your hopes up when you see a helicopter only to be let down when it disappeared again, your food and water supply shrinking as the days went by. You were depressed, anxious, and alone. It was a shit time you wished to forget.
"I stayed in my apartment for a month," you told him.
"Were you with anyone?" he questioned, curiosity getting the best of him.
"No," you answered, lips pursing into a straight line, "I was all alone."
Jungkook noticed how you got quieter, realising he may have crossed a line or two. He cursed himself out in his head for stepping past your boundaries.
"I'm sorry," he apologised, making you glance at him with a baffled expression, "That you were alone, and for bringing up something you may have not wanted to share."
You blinked profusely, nearly stuttering your words out, "no it's okay, Jungkook, you're alright," you assured him as he looked at you with a guilty frown, "yes, it is a bit hard to talk about, but I feel safe talking about it with you."
A shy smile appeared on his face as he looked away. "I ran out of food just like you guys, that's why I left. I was inside a convenience store when Kang and Gihoon found me, hit me unconscious, and took me."
"So that's those bastards' names," Jungkook fumed, jaw clenching as he clicked his knuckles.
You giggled, finding his protective nature over you endearing, "And then you found me."
He glanced at you, the corner of his lips tugging into a small smile.
"You and Jimin saved my life," you continued, staring at him with grateful eyes, "thank you Jungkook."
None of you spoke as you stared at each other. You could feel the tension growing stronger between you two the more you hung around each other. Part of you liked it, but at the same time you were scared. Scared that if you were to let him into your world and if you were to lose him one day, you would never be able to recover. Romance was such a strong thing, but it was so dangerous at the same time.
"Hey!" Taehyung shouted, causing you both to quickly turn away like nothing happened between you two. Even though there wasn't physically, there was something emotionally and spiritually. You looked at Taehyung to see he was pointing at a sign in the distance. But before you could read it he yelled it out for you, "Suwon interchange up ahead!"
"That's good. Let's get off the highway before we run into someone," Namjoon advised to which everyone hummed in agreement.
"Or zombies. The lack of zombies here is extremely suspicious," Taehyung noted, kicking at rocks as he walked.
"Finally, Hobi finished most of Y/N's snacks!" Jimin groaned, exposing Hoseok who tried to explain himself but was met with complaints and criticism, mostly from an annoyed Taehyung.
