REVIEW: Netflix’s Arcane League of Legends (Episode 1-3)

IT’S FINALLY HERE! THE LONG AWAITED SERIES BASED ON ONE OF THE LORE FROM LEAGUE OF LEGENDS!!!! Every league players has demanded  FOR A LONG TIME for the company behind this game should make a movie or series since their animation trailers they have released for the game is amazing and now even I can’t believe it that they finally made one and it is a series! So far they've only releases three episodes while the others will be released later on another date. Man I’m really excited after watching show so here are my thoughts below!

RISE OF THE GUARDIANS (2012)

I still remembered that when I first watched this movie, I fell in love with Jack Frost and everyone around me also went crazy about him and how they wish that Jack Frost is real. A 2012 movie by DreamWorks Animation, a story about a boy that awakens with amnesia and were chosen to be the new Guardian, unfortunately, no one can see or hear him because no one believe in him. Throughout the movie, Jack Frost discovered what he passionate about which is also the first lesson of the movie.

Based on the movie, Jack Frost became the most effective member and also defeat the Boogeyman after he discovered more about who he was and understand why he was selected as the member of The Guardians. Sometimes, in order for us to move forward in our life, we need to stop for a moment and give us time to discover what is actually our purpose? What are we passionate about and why are we doing thing that we doing at that moment and it is okey if it took time to discover yourself because when you do, you will be on your way to being more effective in handling things.

Another lesson that can be seen in this movie is overcoming your fears. The storyline of this movie showed how fear can defeat a person when we let our fears conquer our life. For myself, I am still struggling with my own fear or should I say I have anxiety where I always have a very bad gastric and backpain and whenever I have either one of them, it somewhat triggers the other and make me feel like I want to faint which honestly, I am soo sick of it. With all the short of breath, it is hard to control myself but I really hope that I am able to control and trying my best not to let my fear take over my body.

What I also love about this movie is how they showed every team member’s strength in their own unique way combined with a remarkable teamwork. Every human being in this world has their own weakness as well strength and sometimes our strength can also be our weakness or vice versa. Nevertheless, there is always a good reason behind every of our strength and weakness and by just giving it a little bit of support, we will able to excel it like how The Guardian using unifying by contributing their strongest talents to serve the team’s mission.

Last but not least, believe in yourself. Believe is always the strongest weapon at all time, no hesitation. It doesn’t matter of what people might think or their opinion about you, as long as you believe that you can do it, trust me, you can do it. I experienced it myself during my secondary year where my own teacher said that I can’t do it just because I failed the subject before the GCSE O’Level examination but I don’t let her control my mind and I just believe that I will get a good result and eventually, I passed it with flying colours and proved her wrong. Soo, always believe in yourself! If you say that you can do it, ignore what people say cause you know yourself better and you will achieve what you believe in.

Spice your sneakers with COLOUR

So recently, I have been into changing up my shoe game... by using different coloured sneaker laces on my sneaks! It can make your shoes look cool and fresh because of the change up of colour game. For example you have triple black shoes, that is.. kinda boring. The shoe can look dead. So the simplest way to spice up your look is by changing the normal shoe lace with another colour for example adding the colour pink! As of now, the most trending shoe lace colour is the colour cream. Why you might ask? The cream colour kind of create that vintage or aged look. Recently, many sneaker brands are starting to release with cream colour shoe lace, some of them include the Air Jordan 1 Low Travis Scott Fragment and Air Jordan 5 Sail Off White. Now, let me show case some of my sneaker colour combos:

Royal Blue + Cream Lace:

The Nike Dunk High Game Royal is a nice combo with some cream laces! It kinda makes it look kinda vintage and edgy.. if you get what I mean hehe.

Black and White + Baby Pink Laces:

NOW THIS COMBO>>> Nike Dunk High Panda with baby pink laces???!!! I am in love with this combo. Adding that hint of color to a basic black and white coloured sneakers just gives me spark in my soul. <3

Another combo that I like is the yellow colour with the Nike Dunk High Panda. This combo goes very well with a lot of cool tone outfits.

Travelling to Chateau Guillard

Overwatch is set in future earth, approximately 2076, several decades after the Omnic Crisis and we learn through the design of the maps how several countries dealt with the attacks from omnics and Talon (a terrorist organisation bent on wreaking havoc in the world) as well as how the fallout has affected their respective countries in present time. Not much to talk about for this map, but it is great lore for our favourite French assassin Widowmaker. This map is set in southeastern France, near Annecy. The symbols on the drapes hints to us that Widowmaker maybe someone of high status, seeing that this map is named Chateau Guillard and her name being Amelie Guillard, it means that this has to be a family vacation home or something. It seems like Widowmaker uses her old ancestral home as a hideout or just a place to get away from the stress of it all.

Minecraft -  Best game to all general age

Minecraft is a must try game to play and get experience to learn the elements of survival and also being creative in the game.

Established in 2009 developed by Notch until Jens “Jeb” Bergensten. Mojang Studios maintained it until it became part of Microsoft. In 2014, Notch left Mojang and is no longer working on Minecraft.

What's best about Minecraft ?

In this game, players can create their own world with your own visual house or farm. For me, basically I like to make minimalist and simple houses that look pleasant but have a secret underground room or tunnel. Most importantly, I must be near the river because I like to see the scenery at the top of my tower. In addition, villagers are one of the most important roles in the game where they can provide good stuff such as enchanted weapons and more. Personally, I like to create a big wall along my villager’s place to prevent them from getting harmed by zombies and skeletons. However, a much stronger and evil will also hunt these villagers which is called the Pillager raid. They will come once our villager are leveling up or become richer.

There are many things we can do in Minecraft, some people like to hangout with their friends and build crazy buildings or just simply adventuring. As I mentioned, I like to play survival mode in Minecraft and build houses near rivers and villagers. Moreover, you can customize your character by getting it for free or buying the character skin, as for my personal character skin is from ‘Gumball’ from ‘the Amazing World of Gumball.’

The graphics quality in minecraft is getting awesome and this is because they want to make people feel the realistic environment but in Minecraft style. For example, now, the water is more realistic looking by having the reflection on the sun in the water. Also, they put shadows to make the character more life-like. Some people use the texture into Lego bricks which depend on the grafic we use and download the app.This caused by getting the game for free or by buying it on the Optifine we use. Minecraft can also be played on any devices nowadays like PC, game console, mobile phones or tablet. But if you want the more exclusive one, you can buy the game and get it online with other players where you can get more new and updated content in the future. The current price of Minecraft in Google Play store is $7.49 and you can play it with your friends and family.

Blue Period

In this blog, I'll share my transformation from someone who considered painting as a pastime and an exercise to relieve stress from schoolwork to someone who saw art as a passion and a career. In my first post, I'll explain why I chose the name I chose for this site. Picasso's Blue Period, from 1900 to 1904, when he made monochromatic works primarily in blue colors, inspired the “Blue Period”. During this time, the paintings have a cold and depressing aura to them, with most of them depicting doleful subject matter such as prostitutes, beggars, and drunks. He has also had some difficulties living during this time, with the addition of his friend committing suicide, which may have influenced his work during this time. The title Blue Period was chosen because there were periods in those years of my life when I questioned my decision to pursue Art as a career.

Introductory Post!

Hello, I’m Amal! Welcome to my first blog post!

As a person who loves to shop online as meditation (maybe an excuse for me to shop more!), I decided it would be fun to blog where I can share the things that I have bought online.

Just a little details here, I usually shop online whenever I feel stress. Most of the time, I will do a lot of window shopping and add so much on to my wishlist. I admit there is time I will do online shopping when I feel way too bored. I’m not sure if it is just my bad habit or bad addiction. Oh well~ I guess as long as I’m happy with my purchase.

The things that I bought can be something that is unique, cute, trending, or even just something that I like.

The Electronic music family

When did electronic music start? If you google it now, it will show 1980s. This was the era of the development in analog modulation and digital synthesizer. if I were to discussed how electronic music was start, it will take a thousand paged book to explain it. For now, we jump to the most recent era, the era of “everybody can make music” that is around the 2010s.

The father of electronic music a genre called Techno and now known as Trance. The mother? Probably the instruments. The word Techno is combined word from Greek téchnē which means “Art,” ”Skill” and used in form of word with the meaning “Technique,” “Technology” (‘Techno’graphy). (According to Techno Definition & Meaning | Dictionary.com). But wait, why Techno is also known as Trance?  is it the same?

A great guitarist that has influenced so many talents and youngsters to become great like him. He is the lead guitarist from a hard rock band called Avenged Sevenfold from California. To be honest, I am one of the young people that have been influenced by him and made me grab my first guitar back in 2010 and shared so many sessions with my friends during my secondary school as a guitarist. In 2011 I’ve had been invited to a band to become their rhythm guitarist and the next year in 2012 I became a lead guitarist in another band and  I have won talent shows on those two years with different band.

Digital portrait wise, this does look new in my feed, isn’t it?

The first thing I love is the monochromic color. I just referred back to my work on Keanu reeves because I wanted to make another just like that, and it became like this. The strong exposure on one side and dark on the other. It is just the picture I referred to is not overexposed as one with Keanu Reeves has.

i have no reason in choosing the brown color as the main, it just has a certain feel while I was applying the colors so i stopped and decided on this one. Same as Keane Reeves, this portrait has no lower eyelid and one thing that I should have done on Keanu is not making the black outline between the lips like this portrait does and it would have been better!

One more thing that I did not sure on deciding is whether make highlight in the eyes or not to. Keanu Reeves has and now here I decided not to. If doing it is making the portrait become lively then not doing it must be making it flat, so I decided not to on this one.

The highlight on his hair now is the same shade with the exposed part of the face and that is enough highlight because the hair is dark that already make strong contrast on the hair.

Mentioning contrast, this portrait has the strongest contrast compared to the other portraits I have done before, do you agree?

REVIEW: Kitani, Brunei’s first zombie series

Alright enough with the content from Netflix for now. Let me talk about a recent Bruneian made short series released on the 29th October, on the Progresif Media website and App. In my personal point of view, these past recent years, our local Bruneians who are involve in the creative and art scene are trying their best to expand and getting recognition in the country by showcasing their talents and skills through an end product and currently the creative industry in Brunei is slowly rising, in which the film industry is one of them.

As you all are aware by now, I love to watch movies and series that I am interested in. With the rise of Bruneian movies and series content that has been released for now, I am really happy and proud that the quality content of some these releases are really worth watching for both locally and internationally. In this post, I will be sharing by thoughts on Kitani, Brunei’s first ever zombie series directed by Syafi Halim of New Wave Films.

SYNOPSIS 

Just a quick self synopsis about the series, basically the story takes place on a fictional post-apocalyptic setting where zombies exists to a viral outbreak which transforms humans into deadly creatures called “Jangkits”. The story of this series starts 8 years after the viral outbreak, focusing on the siblings Nazurah and Ilyas, trying to survive not just from the “Jangkits” but from other humans who survived as well, but they are an unlawful group of aggressive opportunists, known a  as “The Cure”. With Ilyas being just a 10 year old, unexperienced kid, it is up to Nazurah to take care of him while trying to survive from “The Cure” in the day and the “Jangkits” at night. 

PROs and CONS

As usual I will explain my thoughts on the series by pointing the good and bad aspect of it. First will be the good side, I would like to point out that they did an excellent job on the make-up department for the zombies because personally in how I see it, the zombies looked legit! It does not looked fake and even if it was, it does not look to obvious. The extras who play the part of zombies did an excellent job acting as one so that is one of them. Then for the music of the opening credit, I don’t know who made it but yeah great job I love the music used in every opening credit of the show! It has that like a Walking Dead or Last of Us’s eerie vibe which is important so the audience can get a feel before watching each episode accompanied with the opening credit’s visuals of a b-roll of a damaged room, dried dead leaves and so on. But most important highlight of the good aspect of the series is that the casts did an amazing acting performance, especially Nazurah, she is my personal favourite where she and her colleague’s acting did not feel “fake” but realistic and convincing.

Now moving on to the Cons aspect of the show. Honestly the bad side of the series does not really affect my overall enjoyment of the show but just something I noticed a “mistake” they made. I noticed that the clothing that some of the casts wear in parts of the episode are clean, in which if it was a real post-apocalyptic setting, their clothing could have been a bit dirtied or a bit torn-off something like that. Then I more Cons side of the show is that it lacks establishing shot. Showing the landscape environment is also important to get the feel of the zombie-apocalytic setting and I noticed that in the series, most shots either mid close-ups or location choice are a bit limited. Personally I do understand why they made it like this since the fact that this is not a high-budget production hence their resources is limited. Although even with the strict resources they had, I still think they managed to deliver the story and setting very well because I pretty much binged watch the whole series in one sitting lol.

VERDICT 

So yeah overall, Kitani has a minor flaw but with a low budget production, they managed to deliver a great quality content with amazing acting performance from the cast, convincing zombie make-up and amazing music production for the opening credits. Speaking of music I can not believe they brought back a classic viral malay song in here in which I will not spoil for those who have not watched yet heheh. I am giving this series my personal rating of 8/10. 

Those of you who have not watch this yet, you can only watch it on either Progresif Media website or mobile app and pay a subscription. It only has 6 episodes so it is easy to binge watch in one sitting or just one day. For those who have seen the series, what are your thoughts? Do share them in the comments below!

KUNG FU PANDA (2008)

MY FAVOURITE PANDAA! No argument needed that Kung Fu Panda is the best action, comedy animation of all time!! I always love watching movie that have martial arts in it cause it give me that one kind of vibe that I don’t even know how to explain but it just give me happiness. For this movie, not only it consists of martial arts but the most important thing is that it have PANDAAA!! I loveee panda because I find it cute and with Jack Black as the Panda, it just make it waaaay better!

So Kung Fu Panda, a 2008 movie by DreamWorks animation where a panda aka Po were chosen as the Dragon Warrior by the Grand Master Oogway. Obviously, no one is agreed with the decision as Po is just someone that accidently stumbled in the arena by fireworks explosion that does not have any martial art skill at all. For me, this movie is a successful movie and have a great message inside it where they underestimate Po, just because he is a Panda. Yes, it is undeniable that how a big fat panda can do all the martial art stuff as it requires all the speed etc but one thing that people always forget is that nothing is impossible. Everything is possible if you put effort on it like how Po putting his effort on learning the martial art but in his own way and eventually, Po became the Dragon Warrior as stated by Grand Master.

One thing that also attract me is the quote by Oogway: “You are too concerned with what was and what will be. There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.” When I first listened to the quote, I was like ‘ohh yaaa, current = present, why I never thought of it? Interestinggg’ Its true that we always too focus on what is already happened in our life and we worried too much about it which makes us forget that there is something way more important infront of us. There’s also a saying by another movie which I find it also connected to this situation: “Don’t let the past blackmail our present to ruin the beautiful future”.

Another one that was also can be seen in the movie is that stop worrying about what others think about you cause it only waste of time. It may benefit it you but it is very unlikely. Don’t let other people control your mind and don’t let others tell you what you capable of. Only you yourself know, hence, stand for yourself and prove to yourself (not other people) that you are capable of doing anything that you put your mind into. I always said that to myself and I always believe that whenever I put something in my mind that I can do it, trust me, I can really do it. Why? Because I believed that our mind is soo powerful and are the key for everything. It may not be easy but no matter how impossible it is, if you keep faith in yourself, you can do it.

Bujo Experience

In continuation of the last bujo experience, in the starting year of 2018, I decided to try changing my style of making spreads of the month as I have finished A Levels and starting my new journey of adulting. Hence, I was thinking of something more artistic and aesthetic sense of style. Whereas, I tried to focus more on my spreads rather than my flatlays to create more vibrant and possibly create a masterpiece.

I have gotten the love for scrapbooking from my mother and I naturally used my skills for my bullet journal to enhance more of my artistic aspect. The process of making the spreads was very calming to me and I can end up doing my spreads almost all day without noticing. Throughout the process, I was trying so hard not to be perfect with my spread and to just go with the flow.

The difference of the style from last year’s spread was the style and the spreads are more vibrant. This spread has more purpose other than keeping track of the daily to-do list but also the water tracker of the day.

I am not sure if I have mentioned this before but making these spreads possible was the most absolute fun and it allows me to enhance my calligraphy skills. Apart from that, it allows me to use colours that I would rarely use on the daily basis and be outside of my comfort zone when it comes to planning the bullet journal. I hope you love the video and the bullet journal as much as I do because I enjoyed it too much to forget.

Travelling to Eco Point: Antarctica

Overwatch is set in future earth, approximately 2076, several decades after the Omnic Crisis and we learn through the design of the maps how several countries dealt with the attacks from omnics and Talon (a terrorist organisation bent on wreaking havoc in the world) as well as how the fallout has affected their respective countries in present time. Eco Point: Antarctica was a location in which multiple Overwatch climatologists were stationed at to study climate change. One such character that was stationed there is a playable character named Mei. The lore behind this location is incredibly tragic and it involves Mei.

There came a time where a storm was approaching and the expedition group had to begin rationing their food. The leader of the group, Captain Opara suggested the team hibernate in hibernation pods and wait out the storm instead and so they did just that. They had set for the hibernation for a short period of time and they’d surely awaken after that set time. Little did they know that the storm that was approaching would have caused several problems, including malfunctioning their hibernation pods.  9 years later, Mei awakens from her hibernation pod only to find out she had travel 9 years into the future. Shocked that Overwatch had not come to help or care to send a message in those 9 years, she pulls up all information regarding Overwatch only to find out it’s been disbanded.

Mei finds out Overwatch had dissolved Image by Blizzard Entertainment via Overwatch Fandom Noticing it’s quiet, she realised her friends hadn’t awoken with her. She rushes to their pods only to see their decaying corpses within.

She proceeds to pack up and trek her way out Antarctica.

There are some ping pong tables in rooms that help them stay entertained and healthy.

Betrayal

Have you ever heard a child cry? Well I had to do that today. Sobbing, having difficulty breathing as he cried. You can hear the pain in his voice, as if a fleeting happiness in his life just slowly fading away. It chips away at you as you can start feeling your beating heart slowly sink at the thought that a young boy you care about like your own little brother or your child. The reason was because of this common denominator that everyone undergoes. Betrayal. As old as History. Humanity loves to betray. Couples cheat, parents cheat, friends lie etc. Betrayal of trust, betrayal of one’s bonds. Betrayal of trust personally affects me in more ways than one. Sometimes, when people betray you it hurts. It hurts when you are told sweet lies or sometimes even truths but given it’s time that truth becomes a false hope or a lie. You forget that people are capable of lying. You also forget that people are capable betrayal. 

Friends, can sometimes say things that they don’t mean. It’s this manipulative behavior that you can find everywhere. From literally anyone that surrounds you. The ones you consider close can be your greatest enemy. Let’s not look into this specific. I want to rant.

The amount of times I had to undergo a betrayal. It started in the family when my father.. well, lets just say he betrayed my mother. It’s this inherent evil that causes you to wonder whether or not people were born for good. Whether evil has existed since birth. Growing up, didn’t make it easy. Siblings whom I trusted would tell on me on our parents and it started making me question if I can ever trust them. Growing up wasn’t easy, I can tell you that. I started thinking whether or not people did this on purpose. Because no where was safe. No one was safe. You could have a best friend and he would tell people about everything. I didn’t feel safe. Can you imagine amounting trust to someone who you thought you could tell all your secrets to, and having that trust shattered right in front of you. It affects your mental health, frankly even develops trust issues which would grow on you and prolong till you can trust again.

That said, I had to listen to a boy cry today. Because his best friend decided to follow in the footsteps of someone the boy can never be affiliated too. The heartbreak hits when you notice and realize that exact cry. The familiarity of that feeling. I’m not a monster. I can recognize pain, anguish and heartbreak to an extent. It’s insulting to see someone go through the same thing you had to go through after years of growing up. You stop believing in humanity, the same way this boy is about to.

But no.

I can’t allow myself to see another version of me. I cannot undergo this process of self-doubt, mistrust and loneliness, let alone can I watch another one grow into it. You start realising that you don’t want people to go through the same type of pain. The same anguish. The same tears. You knew exactly what it was like and having someone you find dear to undergo the same process. You just couldn’t.

So, I told him that everything would be fine. I told him that it happens and life gets better. I told him that he’ll find people that will love him, people that won’t lie to him. People who won’t betray him.

I told him these things and he asks me, “Do you promise?”

And that’s where I became my own enemy.

I lied to him.
