Quote
It is said that, amongst the Rhoynar who came to Dorne with Nymeria, eight of every ten were women ... but a quarter of those were warriors, in the Rhoynish tradition, and even those who did not fight had been hardened during their travels and travails. As well, thousands who had been boys when fleeing the Rhoyne had grown into manhood and taken up the spear during their years of wandering. By joining with the newcomers, the Martells increased the size of their host by tenfold. When Mors Martell took Nymeria to wife, hundreds of his knights, squires, and lords bannermen also wed Rhoynish women, and many of those who were already wed took them for their paramours. Thus were the two peoples united by blood. These unions enriched and strengthened House Martell and its Dornish allies. The Rhoynar brought considerable wealth with them; their artisans, metalworkers, and stonemasons brought skills far in advance of those achieved by their Westerosi counterparts, and their armorers were soon producing swords and spears and suits of scale and plate no Westerosi smith could hope to match. Even more crucially, it is said the Rhoynish water witches knew secret spells that made dry streams flow again and deserts bloom. To celebrate these unions, and make certain her people could not again retreat to the sea, Nymeria burned the Rhoynish ships. “Our wanderings are at an end,” she declared. “We have found a new home, and here we shall live and die.”

"Prince Jaehaerys was not as forceful as his brother, but when Duncan defied his father to follow his own heart, and the king and court yielded to his desire, the younger prince did not fail to take note. In 240 AC, a year after Prince Duncan’s marriage, Prince Jaehaerys and Princess Shaera each eluded their guardians and were secretly married."

Regarding Rhaegar saying name of a woman when dying: If it was Lyanna how could Robert didn't know. I think Dany seeing a vision shouldn't be taken as evidence. Also Robert strike Rhaegar with his hammer on chest so maybe he wasn't in a position to say anything.
@sherlokiness was kind enough to share a quote from the AWOIAF app in the notes of this post that confirms it was supposedly Lyanna's name (Thank you, again!) but for all the reasons you list, I agree it would still be weird.

There's a website called asearchoficeandfire that lets you look for quotes from the series (you could always take screenshots or copy paste text from there for your post)
Oh i know about that website, it has been of huge help to me! I just used the digital book for all my other quotes so i want to keep the same format :)
Thank for the rec! I can't believe this website exists and is free to use. What would we do without asearchoficeandfire and awoiaf

fire and blood 2 isn't coming but even if it comes she won't be important because AWOIAF doesn't even mention alys and her supposedly very important son. she doesn't have a proper ending and the show even considered cutting daeron. also what's that old gods bs? lol pls be serious you sound delusional.
if ryan condal is such a fan of the book then why he made aemond a completely different person and wrote all the nonsense that mushroom said for aegon. and he made helaena a dreamer. ryan also ignored the relationship between helaena and aegon, aegon doesn't give a f about helaena
You sound extremely upset and threatened by the existence of Alys as a character. I think you need to calm down. If you need to tell youtself "It's OK, it's OK, part 2 of Fire and Blood won't come out so I won't need to read more about her..." - well, I guess what/ver works for you!
Your ask isn't very coherent, it'reads like a stream of consciousness, but I'll try to break it down...
"fire and blood 2 isn't coming" - I don't have any exclusive news about its publication and I doubt you have either. I don't see how that's relevant anyway.
"but even if it comes she won't be important because AWOIAF doesn't even mention alys and her supposedly very important son" - It does, actually. It doesn't mention her activities during the regency. Lots of things and lots of people were not mentioned in AWOAIF but were in a Fire & Blood, which is an expanded version of the story about the Targaryens' reign in Westeros and contain so much more information, including probably things GRRM hadn't even developed a few years before. Which, you know, is the whole point of F&B. What does "important" mean to you? Someone who takes the throne is important and everyone else isn't? No one ever said her son will become king. So what?
"she doesn't have a proper ending" - because Blood and Fire hasn't come out. And? Neither do Dany, Jon Snow, Tyrion, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Jaime, Cersei, Brienne... and every single character from the main series, since Winds of WInter hasn't come out (and some people think it's not coming out). What is your point?
"the show even considered cutting daeron" - Where did you get that from? DId Ryan Condal tell you that? GRRM and Ryan Condal have both said they didn't have a way of working out Daeron in season 1.
"also what's that old gods bs" -Old Gods are the First Men religion that many people still practice in Westeros. mainly in the North, which makes followers of the Old Gods rare in the South, although godswoods still exist (like the big one in Harrenhal where Sabitha Frey found Alys preying to them) and the religion is accepted and tolerated alongside the Faith of the Seven. I'm sorry, I assumed everyone was aware of that. Have you ever read the books? any of them? The "Old Gods BS" is very important in ASOAIF.
"if ryan condal is such a fan of the book then why he made aemond a completely different person" - How did he 'make him a completely different person'? What did Aemond do during season 1 that is so different from what he is said to be doing at this point in the book?
The only significant deviation is that the fight after he claims Vhagar is different, because Baela and Rhaena are involved, while Joffrey isn't, which is a smart decision on many accounts, especially because a 3 year old confronting a 10 year old is completely ridiculous. GRRM has an issue with writing children and sometimes writes extremely small children doing things children of that age certainly wouldn't do. Oh, and Aemond doesn't call Rhaenyra an old wh0re. Is that what you're disappointed about? Are you also disappointed with Rhaenyra not saying anything homophobic about Laenor when Viserys first asks her to marry him, for instance, or not yelling "Out, out, monster!" while giving birth to Visenya? Maybe they said those things, maybe they didn't - the only evidence is that someone quoted them. Was it accurate, was it made up? Who knows. (I personally think it was a smart decision to not make every character unlikable by having them randomly say sexist, homophobic and generally awful things just because the unreliable fictional history book says they said that exact line and someone who heard it reproduced it accurately,, so we just can't deviate from that!)
Being a 'book purist' about a book like Fire & Blood (which is a bunch of plot points mixed with rumors and unreliable accouts) is funny. If you find Aemond to be a "completely different person", that's because the show is fleshing out the characters and interpreting them differently than the maester who's writing the 'history and portraying them as one-dimensional or at best two-dimensional caricatures. Which, guess what, is exactly what a fan who understands the book would do! Gyldayn and his sources are meant to be unreliable narrators. I hope you understand the concept.
"wrote all the nonsense that mushroom said for aegon." - What is "all the nonsense"? Aegon being in a fighting pit? I thought you were insisting that the show had to be just like the book, but now you're upset they included something from the book? Pick a struggle!
In any case, Mushroom also says that Aegon was found drunk and naked while a girl who couldn't be over 12 was giving him a blow job.. So you see, they didn't include all of what Mushroom said. I'm personally grateful they toned down on the pedophilia on the show.
"and he made helaena a dreamer" - And you have a problem with that because...? Oh right, "Fire and Blood book purism" LMAO So far Helaena hasn't been able to change anything with her dreams, no one even takes the things she says as prophecies, and she's only said them to a small circle of people, so if you're that bothered about F&B (which I doubt you really are, since you are actively wishing for characters to be cut...), Helaena could for all we know be a dreamer in the books too and we just wouldn't know.
"ryan also ignored the relationship between helaena and aegon, aegon doesn't give a f about helaena" - so just like in Fire & Blood, where he also doesn't give a f about her, and she doesn't give a f about him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryan hasn't ignored the relationship between Helaena and Aegon, in fact he's focused on that relationship more than he has on Helaena and Aemond's, and second only to Aemond's and Aegon's: the show made sure to show that Aegon and Helaena don't like each other as siblings or spouses and are indifferent to each other.

Quote
And when the triumphant Prince of Dragonstone named Lyanna Stark, daughter of the Lord of Winterfell, the queen of love and beauty, placing a garland of blue roses in her lap with the tip of his lance, the lickspittle lords gathered around the king declared that further proof of his perfidy. Why would the prince have thus given insult to his own wife, the Princess Elia Martell of Dorne (who was present), unless it was to help him gain the Iron Throne? The crowning of the Stark girl, who was by all reports a wild and boyish young thing with none of the Princess Elia’s delicate beauty, could only have been meant to win the allegiance of Winterfell to Prince Rhaegar’s cause, Symond Staunton suggested to the king. Yet if this were true, why did Lady Lyanna’s brothers seem so distraught at the honor the prince had bestowed upon her? Brandon Stark, the heir to Winterfell, had to be restrained from confronting Rhaegar at what he took as a slight upon his sister’s honor, for Lyanna Stark had long been betrothed to Robert Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End. Eddard Stark, Brandon’s younger brother and a close friend to Lord Robert, was calmer but no more pleased. As for Robert Baratheon himself, some say he laughed at the prince’s gesture, claiming that Rhaegar had done no more than pay Lyanna her due…but those who knew him better say the young lord brooded on the insult, and that his heart hardened toward the Prince of Dragonstone from that day forth.

weird, probably unpopular opinion? the first aegon is utterly uninteresting and it’s annoying that whenever people talk about visenya and/or rhaenys they usually have to mention aegon somewhere. both of them are way more interesting characters than he’s ever been

There was something wild about a godswood; even here, in the heart of the castle at the heart of the city, you could feel the old gods watching with a thousand unseen eyes.[22]
—thoughts of Sansa Stark.
(Taken from A Wiki of Ice and Fire)
I was looking up some stuff on awoiaf and stumbled onto the Godswood page. Low and behold, of the two quotes about them, they use this one from Sansa (the other is from Jojen, if anyone is wondering). I just thought to myself, it’s kinda quite a specific number of eyes Sansa states, it brings to mind Bloodraven (yes, it’s a thousand and one, though that one is referring to his one remaining eye). Could it be that Sansa felt Bloodraven watching?
Just something to ponder.

House Words Wednesdays: House Dayne of High Hermitage
Welcome to House Words Wednesdays! Each week, I take a House without known canon or semi-canon words and present what I think could make sense as that House’s motto. You’re free to suggest more as well, if your favored House has not yet been suggested; take a look at this link to see what has already been suggested, and shoot me an ask through Tumblr if you have another House you’d like to see done
House Dayne of High Hermitage is a noble House of Dorne, sworn bannermen to their kinsmen the Daynes of Starfall. It is unclear when the Daynes of High Hermitage broke off from their cousins of Starfall, though we do know that the current head of the House, Ser Gerold, is the Knight of High Hermitage, so presumably this is (and perhaps has always been) a landed knightly branch of the family. Maps show High Hermitage as northeast of Starfall following the Torrentine, while the AWOIAF app clarifies that the castle is “high in the red mountains of Dorne”, which makes complete sense to me (not only because of the name, but because where else would you expect Gerold Dayne to brood than in some lonely mountain fastness?). A “hermitage”, for what it’s worth, is a secluded place in which an individual (usually an individual, at least) sequesters himself, often (and certainly in the original meaning of the word) for religious reasons (and indeed, it’s fitting that Gerold Dayne fled into the desert after brutally maiming Myrcella, given that the word “hermit” derives from the Greek “eremites”, designating one who lives in the desert). To what extent that has any bearing on the foundation of High Hermitage as a castle or the Daynes of High Hermitage as a cadet branch is fun to speculate, but unknowable (though sometimes I like to imagine that High Hermitage was originally a sort of retreat/test for the Sword of the Morning - that the new choice for the honor would go on a sort of spiritual journey up the high mountains and spend time alone there in solitary contemplation, and that if he returned and was willing to do so, he would be given Dawn).
The only known Dayne of High Hermitage is Ser Gerold. I've talked before about how Gerold Dayne is the Ghirahim of Westeros, an unfortunate failure in GRRM's attempt to make a “bad boy” character people would love, but that's not to say that Gerold Dayne has no point in the story. My belief is that GRRM realized he had sort of screwed over the Daynes in abandoning the five year gap; the Daynes are supposed to be important, with their mythical blade and their connections to the Tower of Joy, but the current head of the House is, well, 12. To quote myself, “Enter Darkstar: a Dayne who is Very Clearly Bothered by the fact that he is a lesser cousin, a bannerman of little Lord Edric, destined to be forgotten in favor of the storied Ser Arthur”. With Lord Edric having gone with Beric Dondarrion and probably at best presumed missing, at worst assumed dead, Gerold Dayne might well try to take Starfall, and/or Dawn, for himself; if we have Obara Sand, Areo Hotah, and Balon Swann hunting him down in TWOW, that's a perfectly acceptable vehicle (with Hotah as a POV) for the author to convey information about the Daynes, Dawn, and/or the Tower of Joy.
For the Dayne of High Hermitage words, I settled on Nearer to the Heavens. The main-line Daynes, of course, are strongly associated with celestial and astral imagery: their seat is Starfall, established at the place where the first Dayne was said to have "followed the track of a falling star"; their famed sword Dawn, moreover, was "forged from the heart of a falling star", and its bearers wear the title "Sword of the Morning". These cadet-line Daynes would still have those associations, but their seat’s position high in the Red Mountains would put them even nearer, literally, to the stars from which the first Daynes gained their seat and their sword. Gerold Dayne, of course, is eager to distance himself from his kinsmen of the main line: he is “Darkstar”, “of the night”, someone who resents greatly that Ser Arthur is the Dayne people remember, rather than Gerold himself. For him, these words would be a smug note of self-importance: the main-line Daynes might have the pretty sword and the famed title, but he is and should be above them, in talent, ambition, and fame as much as in physically lofty position

Where there’s an Aegon, there is a Sansa
Jon Snow’s real name is Aegon Targaryen (show canon). Like R+L=J, it was (apparently) a huge secret until S6E10 The Winds of Winter (if you can lip-read well) or S7E07 The Dragon and the Wolf when Bran’s voiceover and an amplified whisper of Lyanna to Ned Stark from the Tower of Joy scene, announced to the audience that Jon Snow, henceforth, is to be called Aegon Targaryen.
It remains to be seen whether the same holds up in the books or not, but suffice to say the show has gone the Aegon’s way.
As I was rewatching previous seasons of GOT, I was looking for show evidence to suggest Jon’s name as Aegon. Surprisingly there are quite a few instances that foreshadowed Jon’s real name.
And unsurprisingly (to me, at least, since I subscribe to JonSa) those scenes where the show foreshadows Jon as Aegon Targaryen, who will be King of the 7Ks, are all centered around Sansa or are followed by Sansa’s scenes. And I dunno about you but methinks this can only mean one thing and that is JonSa is endgame!
Following are the instances I could collect, (feel free to add more if you find any)
1. S1E04 Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things
Tumblr media
Sansa is the FIRST person in the show to voice Jon’s name as Aegon, in the all-important throne room scene that foreshadows she will marry the heir to the Iron Throne and sit next to her husband.
2. S1E06 A Golden Crown
Tumblr media
This scene is when Ned promises Sansa a match with “someone who is worthy of her, someone brave, gentle and strong”.
Sansa: ”He’ll be the greatest king that ever was, a golden lion and I’ll give him sons with beautiful blond hair”
This foreshadows Jon and not Joffrey who is his foil. Most times in the books, if the text says Joffrey, the subtext means it’s about Jon. (Jon, in S7E01 Dragonstone, himself lends credence to that Jon/Joffrey as foils theory when he says to Sansa..”do you think I’m Joffrey?”...”you are as far from Joffrey as anyone I’ve ever met”.)
The actual book quote for this scene is as follows:
Arya was chewing at her lip in that disgusting way she had. "Can we take Syrio back with us?"
"Who cares about your stupid dancing master?" Sansa flared. "Father, I only just now remembered, I can't go away, I'm to marry Prince Joffrey." She tried to smile bravely for him. "I love him, Father, I truly truly do, I love him as much as Queen Naerys loved Prince Aemon the Dragonknight, as much as Jonquil loved Ser Florian. I want to be his queen and have his babies."
"Sweet one," her father said gently, "listen to me. When you're old enough, I will make you a match with a high lord who's worthy of you, someone brave and gentle and strong. This match with Joffrey was a terrible mistake. That boy is no Prince Aemon, you must believe me."
-Sansa III, AGOT
while the show did not include the Queen Naerys/Aemon the Dragonknight bit (or the Florian and Jonquil bit), the immediate scene that follows this conversation shows Ned opening the book “The Lineage and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms”...the first page when Ned opens the book is about House Targaryen!!!!
Subtly foreshadowing that Sansa’s promised match with someone brave, gentle and strong would come from House Targaryen.
(This alludes to Sansa’s last suitor being a Targaryen from the Ashford Tourney Theory but it isn’t gonna be fAegon from the books. The show subtly indicated that Sansa’s last suitor will be Jon/Aegon Targaryen because in S5E04 The Sons of the Harpy, we have Sansa and Littlefinger, in the Winterfell crypts, talking about Rhaegar and Lyanna and the Tourney at Harrenhal.....and later in the same episode we have Jon sign a parchment when Samwell calls out Lord Ashford.)
What’s really cool about this shot is that if you zoom into the page they show us, it’s littered with Aegons!!! (I circled the Aegons)
Tumblr media
On top that, it shows King Aegon IV Targaryen and his Queen Naerys Targaryen’s children, Daeron and Daenerys.
This not only foreshadows that Sansa (Naerys) will marry Aegon/Jon but they will also have children. Daeron II, son and heir of Aegon and Naerys, was called Daeron the Good and was a wise, just, and good king (AWOIAF).
{There is also a Viserys, a Daenerys, a Aemon and Aegon, all close to each other...depicting the last surviving Targaryens. (Viserys however dies in this same episode soon after this scene)}
3. S5E07 The Gift
When Maester Aemon is on his deathbed and holds Gilly’s baby, Little Sam, for the last time, and says “that laugh...Egg used to laugh like that”
Tumblr media
Gilly, looking clueless about what Aemon is blabbering, turns to Samwell Tarly who tells us this nugget of information about Maester Aemon’s Egg:
“His little brother, Aegon, he became King.”
In the Night’s Watch, they call themselves brothers. Maester Aemon, being the oldest member is the oldest brother...making Jon, who is younger than him, his little brother. This was also another foreshadowing for Jon’s name as Aegon and for him to become the future King of the Seven Kingdoms.
Next scene cuts to Sansa at Winterfell...
Theon entering Sansa’s room in Winterfell, where she was locked up by Ramsay.
Tumblr media
4. S6E10 The Winds of Winter
The Tower of Joy scene where the show confirms R+L=J and that Jon’s real name is Aegon Targaryen.
Cuts to Jon and Sansa sitting at the head table at Winterfell, when Jon gets elected King in the North. (King and Queen of the 7Ks)
Tumblr media
5. S7E07 The Dragon and the Wolf
The scene when Bran witnesses Rhaegar and Lyanna getting married, making Jon the rightful heir to the Iron Throne and that his name is Aegon Targaryen. (And the other thing that we shall not talk about that happened)
These scenes then segway on to Sansa and Arya, talking about Littlefinger’s death at the Winterfell ramparts.
Tumblr media
That’s 5 instances... let that sink in!!!
{It’s no longer a happy coincidence anymore...this means something really significant and we all know what that this.}
5 times Sansa was around when they alluded to Jon being Aegon Targaryen, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, King of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm. This in all likelihood means that Sansa will be his Queen.

can the blackwood have a gift like greensight or skinchanging? since the brynden rivers/the three eyed raven is a member of that house, it seems as though that may be a family trait
you  are  correct,  ‘non  !  brynden  rivers  was  a  member  of  house  blackwood,  and  he  is  canonically  known  to  have  greensight  and  skinchange  into  a  flock  of  crows  but  it  is  uncertain  if  he  attained  this  gifts  through  the  children  of  the  forest  after  he  disappeared  beyond  the  wall.  this  quote  in  the  awoiaf  hints  that  he  may  have  had  the  gifts  since  birth  (  or  perhaps  he  is  just  exceptionally  crafty  )  :
brynden  was  rumoured  to  be  a  sinister  sorcerer  and  spymaster  who  effectively  ruled  the  kingdom  “with  spies  and  spells”  and  as  “lord  bloodraven”.  a  popular  riddle  asked  was,  “how  many  eyes  does  lord  bloodraven  have  ?  a  thousand  eyes,  and  one.”
it  seems  to  be  a  very  rare  trait  in  the  family,  however,  as  i  believe  he  is  the  only  blackwood  in  canon  to  possess  it,  so  i  suppose  this  is  up  for  discussion  and  depends  on  the  character  and  the  application  itself.  watch  this  space  for  potential  input  from  admin  svet  !

What was the age difference between Ser Bonnifer and then-Princess Rhaella? If she was a teenager when she had Rhaegar that would've made her in her 30s when she died and in her 40s or 50s now if she'd lived, right? He didn't seem that old in Jaime's chapters, maybe his 60s, or am I remembering wrong?
Regarding this post by @rhaellas, we don’t know precisely, but we can guesstimate based on available information. Some quotes:
“she was once smitten with a young knight from the stormlands who wore her favor at a tourney and named her queen of love and beauty. A brief thing. […] He put away his lance the day your lady mother wed your father. Afterward he became most pious, and was heard to say that only the Maiden could replace Queen Rhaella in his heart. His passion was impossible, of course. A landed knight is no fit consort for a princess of royal blood.” –Daenerys VII, ADWD
“Rhaella grew up in the court of her grandfather Aegon V. She became infatuated, for a time, with a handsome tourney knight from the stormlands, but it was a passing fancy that came to an end when her father, Jaehaerys, heard a prophecy from a woods witch, brought to court by Jenny of Oldstones, that the prince who was promised would come from his children.” –”Rhaella Targaryen” entry, AWOIAF Official iPad app
Rhaella was born in either 245 or 246, and she and Aerys wed around 258, when Rhaella was about 12 or 13. The official app tells us her infatuation with Bonifer ended before the wedding, at the time Jaehaerys announced the betrothal. We don’t know when this announcement was made, but it had to be sufficiently in advance of the wedding that (at the very least, imo) invitations could be sent out and various nobles could make the journey to the capital.
So this infatuation happened when Rhaella was about 11 or 12, possibly younger depending on when the woods witch gave her prophecy. This was just my impression, but to me, it seemed like the woods witch gave her prophecy before Rhaella had even begun to menstruate, and she was betrothed (like Sansa) at 11, and not long after her first flowering, she and Aerys were wed (again in a situation very like Sansa’s).
Let’s say Rhaella was 11 during this infatuation, in about 251. Were Rhaella alive today in 300AC, she would be about 55 years old.
Bonifer was “a young knight” so he was maybe 16 - 20. Let’s be generous and and say Bonifer was 17 in 251, given his great renown as “a jouster of some note”. (That means he would have had to establish a reputation with the tourney lance, so we need multiple tourneys, which takes time.) If he was 17 in 251, that means he would have been born in 234, which is about two or three years older than Barristan Selmy. (Note that Selmy was also crushing on a young maiden at a tourney in a similar situation. Significant age gaps between gallant knights and fair maidens are common in GRRM’s writing.)
In 300AC, Bonifer is presumably in his late 60s, possibly early 70s. Does this jive with the descriptions we get in the text? Bonifer is described as “old” but it’s implied that he’s younger than the “ancient” Lord Estermont (King Robert’s grandfather), who must be in his 80s at least, possibly older. Jaime thinks of Bonifer as “old” and “withered”. (For comparison, Jaime’s father Tywin is around 58 when he dies, and Jaime never associates the word “old” with Tywin.)
So anyways, I think it’s weird if you have a guy who is the equivalent of a senior in high school crushing on a little girl about the age of a 5th grader. If this infatuation had occurred when they were older, it wouldn’t be a significant age gap, but the way GRRM wrote it, it’s creepy. I get that GRRM was trying to make parallels with Dany and Sansa, but I think GRRM made a mistake when he made Rhaella younger than Aerys.
