Day 23 was Ash and Serena from Pokemon. My friend suggested pokemon and I immediately thought of these two since they have the childhood friend dynamic. Also short haired Kazuha is cute. Anyways, hope y’all enjoy!

Pokemon

How I entered/learned about the said game/show/movie/etc of that fandom: It got really popular in my neighborhood and my mom knew i had very few friends, so she got me the game for my birthday, and a deck of cards very soon after (the gyarados starter deck!). I didn’t even really ask but she knew i likes animals and it kinda spurred on something. I started meeting people in my class through it because i got so into it, i had a ‘novelization’ of the first game (which half acted as a game guide of sorts) and some other kids in my class got to know me through it. None of the friends stuck and some people tried to manipulate me out of some of my rarer cards, but even if friends didn’t stick pokemon did.

Fave character: Fave pokemon is Cacnea!, fave character in the series is James, fave characters in the games is a tie between Guzma and N.

Least fave character: Professor Oak from the games, because im gonna ride my bike where i please.

Pairing that everyone likes but I don’t get: AshMisty.... like i guess i get it but???? i ash is too dense.

Fave thing about the fandom: THE ART.

The most despised thing: .... you know what this is one of the few fandoms where i probs couldn’t pick that out.

If there is something I would change from said game/show/movie/etc., what would it be.: maybe less ash.... it’d be nice to have more anime like Pokemon Generations or Origins where it has different protags and is more plotbased than monster of the week. (granted i haven’t watched xy or sunmoon so i guess ash might be more interesting in those? I heard good things about xy from the relationship angle for Ashserena but since i don’t like ash much in the first place it aint much more interesting to me. )

“I’ve been in the Pokemon fandom for a while now (I was introduced through season 1 of the anime). And as the series has gone on, there seems to be a formula that each new region follows:

Ash and Pikachu go to new region

Meet traveling companions

Encounter/catch new pokemon

Run into Team Rocket every other episode

Meet rival(s)

Challenge all 8 gyms

As of gen 3 in the anime, encounter regional villains (Team Aqua and Magma, Team Galactic, Team Plasma, Team Flare)

Compete in regional league

Lose at (on average) top 8

Say goodbye to companions

Go back to Pallet Town

Hear about new region

Rinse and repeat

Something else that’s become quite common in the fandom (like many fandoms) is shipping. Some of more common ships I’ve seen in the fandom are between main characters (mainly Ash). And while there are also a few times in the anime where one character has actually LIKED another character, most times these are one-off characters that are only in (at most) a few episodes or a whole movie. Then XY aired, and along with it, we got a rather interesting ship, Ash and Serena. As mentioned earlier, while ships between Ash and one of his friends are among the more popular ships, this is the first instance where one (Serena) is confirmed to have canon feelings for the other (Ash). Now, knowing this as well as the formula mentioned earlier, it seems like the show staff may have written themselves into a corner. Since the moment she was made aware that Ash was in Kalos, this subplot has become one of the more notable ones of Serena’s character arc. When the time comes for Ash (who by the way has no idea about how Serena feels about him) to leave Kalos and head to the next region, the writers are going to have to find some way to wrap up this subplot. The way I see it: here are only SOME of the options they could go with:

Stick with the formula and nothing changes (ultimately making the subplot pointless)

Have Ash find out (either by Serena telling him or somehow finding out on his own (hard to say how this will affect the rest of the series going forward))

Have Serena get over how she feels about him (again, ultimately making the subplot pointless)

Have Serena go to along with Ash to more regions to keep the subplot going (unlikely, given what happened after the end of the Showcase Master Class)

I’m sure there are probably some other options I haven’t listed, but these are the ones I could think of right away. I have nothing personal against the ship (I do enjoy Serena’s character), this is just me being analytical.”
