Just a reminder for my fellow APT fans! Requiem will have its first anniversary October 18th! That’s just a few weeks away! I’m definitely going to be posting that day, probably a fanfic chapter and a bunch of in game pics I’ve taken.
I think it would be awesome if we all posted something Plague Tale oriented on October 18th to show Asobo how much we loved their game! 🥰 you absolutely don’t have to, but if you can, I think it would be awesome and such an encouragement to Asobo! ❤️
I’ll post another reminder in a week or so! Love the Plague Tale fandom! Y’all are the best!

like a noir movie scene
Jacques is standing on the train platform when Bertrand gets off the train.
~1.1k. Jacques Snicket / Bertrand Baudelaire. also features: Beatrice Baudelaire.
Jacques is standing on the train platform when Bertrand gets off the train. He's wearing a brown trench coat, and a newsboy cap of matching color, his head inclined downwards at an angle that passers-by can't quite see his face. His hands are tucked into the pockets of the trench coat.
Trench coats are fairly "in" this season, according to the Daily Punctilio, so Jacques rather blends in nicely without attracting much attention. On the other hand, Jacques has the talent of picking whichever outfit that's supposedly in at the current moment, and makes it look vintage on him when he's wearing it, as if it's always been a classic since the beginning of time. Some latest fashion will look like latest fashion, the edge of all trends, on certain people - the recently up-and-rising actress Esme is one, and Beatrice another - but Jacques makes anything look classic.
Or perhaps Jacques is just a classic, himself.
Well, that's Bertrand's opinion. Kit's opinion is "you're biased, B, because you're half-in-love with him".
The night is quite cool, and just a little foggy. Jacques is standing by one of the lampposts on the platform, one of the few spots that are more illuminated on this foggy night. The cigarette he's smoking might've dampened the effects of the warm light, though.
The train takes off again, heading to the next station. Bertrand walks a few steps towards the trench coat figure, and notices a smaller, far more petite figure just nearby.
Beatrice is quite miniature compared to Jacques's lankiness. She is wearing a big black hat on her head, on which an elaborate bat - not a real one - rests. She's wearing a tailor-made black dress and a dark red coat, both with a large number of pockets in which she can carry many things, ranging from her mini-dictionary she takes everywhere with her to assorted small weapons of various levels of destruction, including a box of darts and a bottle of poison that can be coated onto the darts. The hem of the dress is just right above her knee, which is the innest length of the season, and so are the pair of leather shoes she has on.
Beatrice Baudelaire, in contrast to Jacques Snicket who makes fashion looks vintage, makes fashion looks extra fashionable. The fashionable look is partly designed to distract people away from the danger she can pose, the incredible selection of weapons hidden underneath.
Kit's comment is that it "combines practicality with fashion, a very clever and neat design", and Bertrand's response is "sure, but since when do you care about fashion, K?"
But despite the incredibly fashionable in selection of Beatrice's and Jacques's outfits, Bertrand takes a look at those two and feels like he's in some kind of noir movie.
The fog probably plays some role, he thinks.
Jacques Snicket. Beatrice Baudelaire.
Detective and femme fatale. Except he's not her detective, and she isn't his femme fatale.
Passing by Beatrice on his way to Jacques, Bertrand discreetly slips a small packet into one of the pockets in Beatrice's dark red coat, but the two don't exchange a word. He continues towards Jacques, who finally raises his head and briefly nods at Bertrand, cool and succinct.
They leave the train station together.
Jacques and Bertrand, that is. Beatrice remains on the platform, waiting to take a train that will arrive in 10 minutes, where she'll board with the small packet Bertrand just slipped her, and continue to carry it towards the next destination.
The intricate methods of communications and delivery of VFD.
Jacques leads the way out of the station, Bertrand following, and they arrive at a nearby alley with an old taxi parked. It looks even more weary and worn than the last time Bertrand saw it. Jacques unlocks the taxi, and they climb aboard, but not before Bertrand puts his suitcase in the trunk first.
Jacques takes off the newsboy cap as he settles down on the driver's seat comfortably. Inside the taxi, he looks a little less like some noir detective image encapsulating loneliness of The City, and simply just the Jacques that Bertrand knows quite well.
The fashion column editor of the Daily Punctilio gives Bertrand a lopsided smile. "Hi, B," he says.
"J," Bertrand says, quite warmly, relaxing.
The taxi always has that kind of effect for him. He likes to think of it as an old friend, the way the Snickets are to him. Not quite a far-fetched comparison, considering the taxi's been in the family for quite a while. He's heard the story about how it dutifully carried Jacob Snicket and his bridge partner to an important tournament that they were almost late for, only arriving at the last minute.
"The only one that calls my father Jake," he remembers Jacques explaining at that time when he told the story, referring to the bridge partner.
Bertrand leans in now, closer to the driver's seat, and kisses Jacques. Quiet. Slow. Savoring and tasting and feeling and melting into it. Jacques kisses him back, equally slow.
The inside of the taxi is slightly warmer than outside, but not by much. The air more still, feeling more so now as things seem to slow down around them. Not that the world seems to be moving too fast on a night like this.
They break apart. Jacques turns the ignition key, and radio comes up in the background, and orchestral sounds fill the inside of the taxi.
Jacques Snicket is a man of classics, Bertrand thinks.
"Nice trench coat, by the way," Bertrand says.
Jacques smiles, just a little. "I thought so as well. It was my father's."
Bertrand raises an eyebrow. "Mr. Jacob's? It looks quite well-preserved."
"Yeah. I don't think he wore it much." Jacques says. "From the looks of it."
Bertrand suspects this is more just a deduction on Jacques's part - something Jacques's quite good at. Also because the Snickets don't really know that much details about the daily lives of their parents.
"Mmm. I heard that trench coat's back in again," Bertrand says.
"Thought it's about time," Jacques shrugs. "I've been wanting to wear this in public for a while." He puts his hands on the wheel, "So, to the hotel?"
"I was rather hoping to crash at your apartment tonight, actually," Bertrand says.
Jacques looks at him.
And then he smiles. "Of course."
He steps on the accelerator, and off they go.

I need to ramble about A Plague Tale: Requiem
Man i have so many thoughts over a plague tale: requiem and i need to share them or write them down somewhere or I think i will aHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
the game is so good dude, like, holy shit. i loved innocence, i really did, but there were some aspects that were okay. ya know? like, sometimes i think there was this whole, "illusion of choice" thing present. like more than one way to get pass enemies but in truth there wasn't really.
but requiem? holy shit dude, requiem really dID give you a choice. I noticed it the MOMENT Lucas pointed out how Amicia (the player, technically) handled the situation, and the game showed 3 different like, skills that will develop depending on how you get by enemies. One for stealth, one for aggressiveness/fighting, and another that I don't really understand but I think it had to do with alchemy. And oh BOY WERE THERE CHOICES IN THIS GAME.
There's like, all kinds of different ways to get by enemies, 17 different PATHS, DUDE IT'S SO GOOD. HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK
the story, oH MY GOD, THE STORY WAS SO GOOD AND TRAGIC. I LOVED the new characters. I absolutely adored Sophia, though I wish they gave Arnaud a bit more screentime. With him we just snuck around and walked around town. With Sophia we like, spent a whole fucking day with her. The game did such a good job at establishing her character. Showing her traits and her thoughts and loyalty. My favorite being after she finds out about the rats, after she finds out about the curse, after she learns EVERYTHING, she STILL choses the kids. She still picks them. Still helps them. She stays by their side until the end and even more so then. GOD, it was so good, and I loved her character. And I'm sO HAPPY SHE DIDN'T DIE.
We didn't see much of Beatrice but one scene with her keeps replaying in my head. When the rats are taking over the town, and Amicia reaches Beatrice and Hugo. Beatrice watches the rats, believing, yet also hoping Amicia's words will reach Hugo in time. And there's a moment, where, she accepts the worst. Accepts the fate of herself and her children. And rather than panicking, rather than scolding Amicia, or telling her to hurry, she hugs them. She hugs her children. She wraps her arms around them and holds them close. Because if this is truly the end, she wants to be with her children.
Beatrice, in all her being and faults, is not a perfect mother. And to me, she didn't have enough screen time to me to truly make an opinion of the type of mother she is. Yet, I think about that scene a lot. Because to me, it shows that she loved Amicia and Hugo dearly. She closed her eyes, held her children, and accepted her fate.
I loved Lucas in this game, you can truly tell that he's a bit more mature. That's he's grown from the previous game, and even the stuff that happened in between the two games (because apparently there's books that go over events between the two games and the moment they get translated I am going to buy the sHIT OUT OF THEM).
I love how he was the balance in this game. He kept Amicia and Hugo, especially Amicia grounded. He calmed them down, comforted them, supported them, held them, he was their strength when they had nothing left.
If the world was being consumed by a hurricane, Lucas was the eye of the storm.
You could tell how much he loved Amicia and Hugo, how much they meant to him. In Innocence it was obvious that he cared for them after a while. But Requiem showed that he began to love them. That they mean everything to him. Maybe it's because Lucas is my favorite character, but it was so obvious that he thought of them as family. Or at least as something as strong as family. They meant everything to him, he loved them both so much. The De Rune were his world, and it hurts to think that he almost lost it, and in some cases, practically did lose it.
Amicia, holy shit Amicia, it's so obvious the effect the 1st game had on her, the consequences, the toll. Amicia is ready for everything to go wrong, but she still holds on to hope that maybe, just maybe it won't. She acts less like a young girl trying to survive and weighing her decisions, and more like an adult who is ready to do what is necessary even if she doesn't want to. And it hurts. It hurts to see what she has become, and to see how the 1st game has changed her. It hurts to see her deal with trauma at a time where stuff like that wasn't really discovered??? At least I don't think it was all that known.
And Hugo? God, Hugo. My poor boy. You can tell how much he wants to be like other kids, how much he wants friends, and peace. How tired he is, he's 5 years old and he's already tired. He hadn't even lived yet, the choice to live was stolen from him by selfish assholes. And it hurts to see how afraid he is of dying in the beginning only to reach the end and... It's just so.. Obvious that he knows what has to be done. That he knows he's going to die. And he's okay with it. Hugo has come to terms with it and it hurts. He's 5. FIVE. FIVE YEARS OLD. When I played Innocence for the first time, all I could think about was, "Hugo has never been outside, this is his 1st time outside. This is his first impression of the outside world. A beautiful yet cruel place" And that thought is still so strong in Requiem. And it hurts.
This game hurts, and it knows it hurts. It's a beautiful yet cruel game. And I love it.
I can't stop thinking about it. It's all I can think about. God, I fucking love this game.
When people would ask me, "What's your favorite game?" I never had an actual answer. I could answer my favorite video game franchise, but I've never had a favorite game before.
Now, though? Requiem changes that.
I adore this game. Replaying it now hurts, but something is missing now. And I know what it is.
I want to experience the game for the first time again. In all it's beauty and pain.
I've never felt that way about a game before. And I love it.
I love Requiem. In all it's being.
To think none of this would have happened if I hadn't stumbled upon a random video showing Innocence's gameplay.
I wouldn't change a thing though.

If you want to comment, you have a suggestion or advice for me, feel free to let me know in the comment section! I'll read and try to answer when I can. Much appreciated!

My thoughts and highlights on A Plague Tale: Tenebris:
Hugo doesn't know the difference between the role of a mother and sister in his life is a fair but sad point in the story (especially for Amicia who had her childhood taken away)
Beatrice is almost always right, but is terrible at making her points and comes across as an evil witch. Hot take: The woman has never done anything wrong in her life, she just has very poor communication skills 😂
I need to draw Hugo and Brume at some point because the idea of them is just too cute to stop myself ❤️
There are at least 3 good little moments between Beatrice and Amicia that sell me the mother/daughter relationship well, even in conflict, and I wish Requiem had at least one moment like that 🥺
Of all the masters Lucas had: Laurentius taught him the curiosity and discipline of learning; Beatrice taught him to trust his instincts and have the guts to defend his own theories; but André was the one who showed him that none of that matters if he doesn't put it to use to help others and - while Lucas was always a good person - he still needed to learn how to direct that goodness into action and seeing a person as a person, with feelings and that needs more than his systematic help. I believe it's because of what André taught him that Lucas became our golden boy in Requiem 🥰
Amicia getting annoyed when Beatrice treats her and Lucas like kids is great! This shows that the girl sees him as an equal, someone she can trust and have by her side in moments of crisis. The funny part is they met a bunch of kids and she still saw them as kids, even the older ones. But Lucas? Amicia doesn't even consider him an apprentice anymore and gets offended when someone offends him (soulmates behavior ✨)
The little interactions between Lucas and Amicia it's a whole meal for my ship heart 🥰. It's something about the respect between them. The way they care and support each other. And how relieved they feel to know that the other is okay. It's a special bond that makes me so happy and I can't compare it to anything else in this franchise.
The writer missed the opportunity to have Amicia hit Aurele straight in the head with a rock only for him to survive and she be like "oh no, this new sling doesn't have any upgrades 😯"
I wish Aurele and Milo were combined into one character. Both are minor religious fanatics villains with a lot of potential, but no enough time to develop that well. Adapting and mixing their story in some way could work. Just imagine Aurele/Milo survives Tenebris and appears in Requiem and Amicia comment "oh that's the guy who hunted us in Guyenne". Fans more attentive to the ending of Innocence would make the connection, those who read the book would have more context, and the character would feels more fresh and complex. Just a wishful thought, of course, they still good for small villains.
Tenebris made me realize that Amicia's plan at the end of Requiem to go live isolated in the mountains would be completely impractical. I can even imagine Hugo in his teens getting tired of living there with just trees and goats and eventually having another breakdown causing more disasters.
I know I probably missed a lot of details in the translation, but I started reading this just because I wanted more Plague Tale and, as a whole, that's exactly what I got with Tenebris.
I wouldn't be against it if they decided to do another book with a story about what happened after Requiem.
Yeah, give me Amicia and Sophia traveling on a boat bumping into Lucas and André somewhere and end up having to unravel the mystery of some cult recreating Vitalis' white rats.
(Oh, or maybe I'll just write a fanfic about it 👀)

Lambdadelta being the piece of candy that is used many times in the story as proof of magic and what initially convinced Maria that Beatrice exists, the way Lambda endorsing Sayo as a witch works as an allegory for how the candy trick made Beatrice 'exist' through Maria's belief/acknowledgment and how that was the foundation of Mariage Sorciere and the concept of endless magic VS Bernkastel being the black cat that Kumasawa blames to get Sayo out of trouble when she breaks Kinzo's vase, something that's depicted as Virgilia's finite magic, Sayo's first exposure to magic as a way to actively avoid the harshness of reality which translates to young Beatrice's decision to become Virgilia's apprentice, the way Bern's position in the story seeking to dismantle the illusion of the witch as cruelly as possible reflects how this kind of magic is only temporary relief and reality always supersedes it, you can blame a cat for the vase being broken but it's broken nonetheless and it's easy to prove that the cat story was a cover up, the consequence to lies being piled up on top of lies is that when the truth eventually comes out, it becomes much more devastating (see: Sayo being lied to about herself her whole life)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lambda and Bern existing as meta-phors not just for two concepts of fate but also two different conceptions/origins of magic, the candy and the cat being keys in pivotal moments where magic first "came to be", the candy magic revolving around truth being created by belief and the cat magic being about escaping truth by creating a lie
