2001 A Space Odyssey — Warrior Cats AU (Warriors Odyssey?)

I have actual ideas about how the first film would go in the AU, not sure what the second film would even be about in this au, and vague concept for the third book in this au.

They're propably on a quest from Starclan because Starclan conveniently sucks. Maybe they're pet cats or clan cats, that's propably not essential. I'm not sure how HAL's mental brekadown should go in this AU, i wouldn't want it to be any more his fault than it was in canon but Starclan can't physically control you...

Dave Bowman — Cosmos (pet) / Nightwatcher (clan)

A solid black tom with blue eyes. If he's a pet he'll have a red collar with a saturn charm on it.

Had a thing with Daisyheart before he cracked.

After killing Daisyheart, Nightwatcher reaches where they were supposed to go (Moonpool equivalent or something?) which he enters and where he's separated from his body in a frightening spiritual experience, becoming a ghost. He doesn't enter Starclan or the Dark Forest and instead just wanders.

He's eventually reunited with Daisyheart's spirit. They talk it through, and watch over Darkpool.

HAL-9000 — Daisy (pet) / Daisyheart (clan)

A black silver classic tabby with one red-orange eye. His left eye is just not there, nor is there even an eyesocket. He was just born without it.

Medicine cat apperentice who has visions of/connection to Starclan even when awake.

Starclan torments him day and night about what he's "supposed" to do and what they want him to do and how everything is "supposed" to go, contributing to his mental detoriation. He doesn't tell Nightwatcher or Darkpool about this, and instead keeps pretending to be cool and perfect until he cracks.

After Darkpool's death, Nightwatcher gets away from where Daisyheart trapped him by doing a dangerous dive, and climbs up to fight him. Nightwatcher wins by inflicting massive head trauma and Daisyheart dies a slow and confused death.

Daisyheart becomes a ghost after dying, somehow not ending up in Starclan or the Dark Forest, and is eventually reunited with Nightwatcher's ghost.

Frank Poole — Frankie (pet) / Darkpool (clan)

A black mackerel tabby with brown eyes and white spotting on his snout, chest, and feet. If he's a pet, he'll have a plain yellow collar.

Looks down on Daisyheart because his parents are both ex-pets (or if he's a pet cat, he'll look down on Daisy because his parents were strays).

Daisyheart kills him by shoving him off a cliff, and when Nightwatcher climbs down to get his body, Daisyheart kicks down the log Nightwatcher used to climb to trap him down.

Gets reincarnated a few months or years after his death, since rebirth is canon in Warrior Cats, so...

Whitehead — ? (pet) / Wavefoam (clan)

Solid white with yellow eyes.

Kaminsky — ? (pet) / ? (clan)

Cinnamon mackerel tabby with brown eyes.

Kimball/Hunter — Hunter (pet) / ?catcher (clan)

Ginger classic tabby with green eyes.

The History of Ruin's Heir

What's "Ruin's Heir"?

Ruin's Heir is a fantasy comic, published at ComicFury by me.

After the gateway to the realm of death has been shattered, the balance of the world has been disturbed, slowly being eaten away by the deadly matter know as "the ruin". Vervain, a young wolf, finds that he has a deep connection to the Grimgrove and its ruin. In order to prevent the inevitable, he must find his True Name.

First page was published 9th April 2023, but the history of this story goes way back to the year 2011. I have now written some of it down, mostly for myself, but if you have found yourself curious and want to give it a read, I welcome you with warmth.

Nemorosa and Vervain

2011 - Parantajan oppipoika

The beginning

At this point in my life I had spent about three years watching YouTube animated series about dogs.

I also did create my own series, several, even before this one, but never published those anywhere, and sadly I do not have them anymore. 2010 December I got my very first own computer, and I got absolutely hog-wild with the new-found freedom of interwebs.

At the age of 12, I finally created my very own YouTube account.

I of course had to create my very own dog (or in this case, wolf) series. I pulled out my trusty MsPaint, and started to work without too much thought about the plot, or anything.

Just wanted to do something, probably came up with the designs at the spur of the moment too.

Juniper and Vervain

The series was called Parantajan oppipoika, until I changed the name to Apprentice, thinking that... English is cool? I don't think though that I ever succesfully released an episode with the new name, so Apprentice didn't really stick. So Parantajan oppipoika it is.

The series had 2 finished apisode, third one was left unfinished.

Which sounds kinda underwhelming. But despite its short visit at the time, Parantajan oppipoika would leave a mark in my heart that was waiting for its next opportunity to shine.

Story

Vervain, young member of the wolf pack, dreams nothing more than being a healer's apprentice. When the day comes that the pack's healer, Clover, chooses her apperentice, Vervain is very excited and hopeful about the end result. But he is left dissapointed, when instead of him, his friend Dandelion is chosen. Some days after the ceremony, Vervain notices that Dandelion seems very tired and absent, barely responding when he asks her anything. Without his knowledge, Dandelion has been suffering from the nightmarish visions she started to get after she was appointed as a healer's apprentice. Next evening, Vervain follows a raven, who guides him to find Dandelion at the forest, killed by a bear. Clover blaming herself, believes this was a sign that her decision was a mistake, and appoints Vervain as her new apprentice.

Inspirations

At the time, I have just got into Warrior Cats, and it was also very clear with Parantajan oppipoika. Pack's structure, nature themed names, and concept of the healer all came from there. I also remember that Vervain's name was taken straight from Watership Down, from the character with the same name.

Not much material is left from this time, which is a big shame for me personally, as I would love to see the first 2 episodes again.

Though, some materials are still intact, and I'll cherish them.

To this very day I still associate this song to Ruin's Heir. Kinda hoping that someday I could animate something to it...

I remember being very, very proud of this one. And honestly, good for you, 12-13 years old Iro, you indeed did good. I think the development between these two openings are visible already.

I think this is all I have to say about the first version of this story, for now.

Hassireeee, Veervain

2013 - Hour of the Wolf

The resurrection

Parantajan oppipoika went to the slumber for time being, and I didn't finish episode 3. If I remember right, I didn't do much with these characters after cancelling the series.

But, in 2013 they returned. I started to work on the reboot, called "Hour of the Wolf"

I literally forgot it was called that. Anyways.

I must admit that I don't remember much specifics from this era, I found an outline for the planned episodes so nevermind about not remembering.

Once again, I was planning on making an animated series, but this time with less success than before. Not a single episode were finished.

But looking at the outline, there was a plan for 16 episodes in total.

Some aspects from 2011 version were kept, but some were also dropped. Vervain didn't want to be a healer anymore, and whole concept of healers seemed to be absent from this version in general. Instead story now focused more on the relationship between Vervain ja Raven, and also war that our main pack, Tyrmäinen, was having with "Bonefangs" pack.

Even though a lot has changed since this version of the story, it did an important groundwork for its future. A lot characters that exits nowadays, were created back then. Even some plot points, though with drastic changes, have stayed in some form.

Sedum and Bracken

Goldenrod, Bracken, Nuphar (down), Sedum, Woundwort, and Majalis

Characters

Sedum and Bracken were old faces from the 2011, but most of the pack's youngsters were created 2013. Nuphar, Pillwort, and Majalis are still part of the cast today. Twins Woundwort and Golderod were part of the story for a long time before being cut 2022.

Vervain and Raven

Vervain bond with ravens was now strengthened. Especially with this one raven, who was also his father's old Guardian, and only thing that the villain, Elder, was truly afraid of. Raven's characterization, and purpose for the story has changed several times after this, but presence of the Raven has been kept strong ever since.

Story

After the death of Dandelion, Vervain finds an injured wolf named Juniper. She is taken in, and she warns the pack about approaching rival pack, Bonefangs, who she also was part of formerly. After the presence of bonefangs has been made known, security measures are tightened, and atmosphere in the pack gets heavy. At the same time, Vervain meets Raven, who seems to be his, and unknowingly to him, his deceased father's Guardian. War between the two wolf packs goes on, until tragedy strikes the pack, and it's rumored that among them there's a traitor…

Elder, Vervain, and Raven

As I'm reading this outline now, I'm thinking "damn, I really did read Harry Potter back then didn't I?"

2015 - Kaarnen Herra

The new era

I still quite like this name I had. It's translated "Lord of the Raven", and I pretty much got it from Lord of the Rings. Good naming technique I would say.

Apparently I started to do reboots every two years.

Once again, I wanted to make a youtube animated series. Because I never learn.

Though this time I learned a little bit, and opted out from making a fully animated series, and instead used minimal amount of pictures. Episode 1 was still left unfinished, because the workload still didn't fit me.

Nemorosa and Vervain

This is probably when this story started to have more online presence. I'm still surprised when people leave a comment somewhere and actually know Vervain's name off the bat.

Even thought this is probably the point where magic wolves' hold over my brain capacity got stronger than ever before, it's also the era where I feel I made my biggest mistake and regret with this story. It was when I put feathers on their heads, unknowingly enforcing racist stereotypes about native people.

I always struggled to find justification lore-wise for why they even had those, so when I finally realized and decided that this whole thing actually comes from a very harmful place, and should be removed, I myself felt very relieved.

This is the time in my life I did a lot drawings and videos about Kaarnen Herra, but I can't say that I would feel comfortable sharing all of it so freely nowadays.

Story

Life at Tyrmänkä's pack has been ever so peaceful, until a weird strom rises. Vervain notices that this has made his friend Dandelion restless, and when he sees that she has went to the forest alone, he follows. Vervain stumbles on to the scene, when Dandelion is trying to bind down an angered spirit, costing her life. Spell however has got its hold on Vervain too, and slowly it rips more and more away his life. One way to save his own life would be to void the spell and release the spirit, but that would possibly cost his pack's life if done so. Luckily, helpful Raven and a stoat named Portimo wants to help him to find another way to save himself...

Vervain and Bracken

Characters

This version brought many new characters, but for this I wanted to showcase these two selectet characters, which I feel have been more influential. Portimo and Tormentil.

Tormentil and Portimo

Portimo

At first there was supposed to be three stoats, capable of merging into one big stoat monster, but at some point, three turned into just one character. (Stoat monster was however apparently kept at least some time after this, for some reason.)

I can't remember where the idea of having a villanous small stoat came from, but I thank the past me of this. Nowadays it's hard to think of this story without Portimo.

Portimo changed a lot tings about the plot, and was even some sort of main villain of the series. Kuilunka, formerly Bonefangs, then became more sympathetic, although still antagonistics.

His name by the way is just a old finnish name for stoats. So his name is just Stoat 👍

Tormentil

Tormentil is a mix of old and new, as her intial inspiration came way back from 2011, from Parantajan oppipoika.

Back then Elder (who was named Vomitflower back then.... I have found no proof that such flower exists, but it might be inspired by the plant called ipecacuanha).

Anyways, Elder/Vomitflower had a sidekick, whose trope was "even more sadistic than the boss". Back then her name was Cactus-spike.

Cactus-spike got a massive overhaul designwise, and a new name, since I didn't want these wolves to know what cacti are. She pretty much became a new character, but fullfilling the same initial role as previously.

Her role also grew a lot from what I originally planned, mostly because I got a such positive feedback from her, and I wanted to utilize her potential more.

2019 - Goodbye animation

Finally I came to the conclusion that I can't work on this story in form of animation, and instead decided to try dip myself back into the wolrd of comics.

And by back I mean that I used to do a lot comics when I was 7-12 years old, but stopped working on those after getting more into doing animations instead.

There were actually two tries, before I started to publish pages publicly. First one I treated more like a test from the beginning, to see how it feels to work on the comic.

Page 1. Ohto Page 2. Nemorosa and Vervain

End result was: It felt pretty nice. My confidence towards this new approach grew, and decided that this would be something I wanted to try in the long run.

I stopped this first run after 12 pages, reworked some aspects of the story, and started to work on the real deal.

But I clearly still had some things to learn....

2020 - Setback

The plot got very big changes, with the threat of the apocalypse looming over the characters now. As I wanted to strengthen to conflict within the world, and make it affect the characters.

With these new additions, some new characters were also brought in (or old ones totally reworked).

Everhalo and Ruinkeeper

New characters

Raven's character got a total overhaul. Now instead of being Vervain's companion, she became the Spirit of death, and was named Ruinkeeper.

This change also later contributed to why story's name was renamed Ruin's Heir (or the finnish name, Kalman lapsi). As I felt that no one would feel any lordiness over this Raven anymore, so I felt that it didn't fit anymore.

With the Spirit of death, there was also added Spirit of life, Everhalo. Who seems to have his own agenda in the grand scheme of things.

I worked on the first chapter, year had passed already and the chapter was close to the finish line.

I had done 34 pages, but finishing the last 7 pages felt too much.

Tormentil, Elder, and Ruinkeeper

I believe that I did a mistake in complicating the backgrounds for the actual comic. Instead of doing a lined work like I did back in my first version, I tried to give it more painted look. So now it didn't feel so good to do anymore, and I felt like I had to do something differend...

So I did what you're always told to not to do when working on comics, and started over.

2022- Ruin's Heir

This is the version I finally started to publish to ComicFury.

The scene did had some chages, but the basic idea was kept same. Tormentil needs to kill Ruinkeeper.

Some pages were reused, and the color palette kept same.

Tormentil, Elder, and Ruinkeeper

I do count this and the previous version of chapter 1 in the same era, as the actual story has no big changes made between these.

Two characters had redesigns though, Elder and Vervain

Vervain

Changing Vervain's design especially felt like I was about to do a crime. But just how with the name change, I just felt that his older design didn't work with his character anymore. Even though I had grown very attached to it.

Luckily, I can say that I'm now quite happy with his design.

The End

At this very moment I'm writing this paragraph, I'm working on the chapter two, with the last six pages work in progress. So far my feelings toward making this comic has been very positive, and it's one of the rays of joy that I have at the moment.

I admit it's one my fears that what if someday I'm not able to work on it anymore? But I guess it's no use to worry too much about the future, while still having this very moment at the hand.

Will I change my mind about this comic in two years? Could be plausible, when looking at my past set records of reboot after reboots. But it's okay, and I'm trying to follow my principle, which pretty much is "follow your heart, it's yours after all".

Not done talking about Du’Met (1/??)

So, I watched this video of a theory about who Du’Met really might be.

And yes, I can see it. Except that I think that Munday is the one making the animatronics out of corpses. It seems like a weird “hobby” a profiler would start because they were not able to save someone in the past, so they started bringing corpses back to life (there is also a real life person who did that, Anatoly M., source, source).

But to take it a little further.

The newspaper reference, Gemini. What if Munday and the other person are twins? Which would explain the same look. The mother wanted to keep it a secret. So only one of them to be out in the world at the time (like in the movie ‘What happened to Monday?‘). As the mother realized one was smarter than the other, he (Hector Munday) was allowed to be out more often. The other living in the shadow of his brother, sometimes allowed to be Munday, without an own personality. Otherwise staying home with their abusive mother.

When H. Munday caught and interviewed Sherman, maybe they switched places for one time. The brother was not allowed to talk, just go in the room with a box and listen. And he was fascinated by Sherman and Holmes. If he didn’t have an own personality, he could become Holmes. He became Shermans apperentice, not H. Munday, who was “just” making animatronics out of corpses.

The murders began. Of course, H. Munday was suspected. Although it was his brother. Loving (or at least having a feeling that he must protect him, pay him back for staying in the shadows) his twin brother Munday covered him and the lifestyle they led. Munday faked his own death.

Does his brother know? I don’t think so, he was too distracted by becoming Holmes. He even didn’t realize that his mother was dying. Munday did everything to keep up a image for his brother. Munday turned his mother into an animatronic.

From then on, they both became Granthem Du’Met.

So I've been thinking of rewriting mapleshades back story for shattered stars in which her kits live for a while. So like instead of drowning they wait for a patrol like she should have in the first place. And maple tells them that they got kicked out of thunderclan and stuff. And river clan is like well I guess we can take the kits in cause theyre half river clan but youre only staying because of the kits. Appledusk still disowns mapleshades being like it was a mistake reedshine is my true love blah blah, but he accepts the kits. Mapleshade of course becomes furious about this and is like I can't believe you cheated on me and basically hates both apple and reeds guts. She becomes like super toxic about it. As the kits grow up maple becomes a major Karen cause you can't tell me she wouldn't cause she always had that ideology that the rules don't apply to her and. Like she takes her kits out of camp before they're like 3 moons old and she has them with a river clan cat. So like if the kits get in trouble for doing something she's all you're against them cause they're part thunderclan to whoever is scolding the kits. And she becomes very narrsist telling her kits like oh the clan hates you cause of who you are and stuff and I'm the only one who loves you mostly cause she's salty about apple but also cause she has the victim mentality. Despite what she says Riverclan loves the kits and acts as normal as possible with them but maple makes a huge deal about everything. Also apple tries his best to be a decent father to the kits cause even tho he hates maple those are still his kits. Maple gets upset by this and tries to keep the kits away from him cause she's salty about reed. Also she makes her kits compete with reeds kits once they're born being like oh my kits are better than yours to try and not win apple over but like try to rub it in his face that he made the wrong choice. Apple of course hates that she does this. So like once the kits become like apperentices they try to prove themselves because of all of the toxic bad ideas maple fed them by idk attacking a thunderclan patrol which ends them getting killed. Maple shade doubles down cause once again she's a narcissist and nothing is ever her fault and is like oh this is Riverclans fault and apple dusks because of how they treated my kids they went and did this. Apple is like no they died because you're a horrible mother who raised them to believe those things that got them killed. After that she's exiled and does her whole murder spree. I feel like maple being a terrible mother and huge narcissist fits better for her character and arch than like ooooh nooo my kits died cause they drowned oh no I'm crazy now. I also want her to be like a foil to leafpool and squilf. Like bad mom vs good mom's

Ra's is actually a lot like Dante from FMA 2003. Like, the wish for immortality, lack of belief in humanity, he even had a storyline where he wanted to posses Damian's body (if I'm not fixing things up). And Talia could work well as Izumi as apperentice/daughter who got away bc had a different moral system (originally she has a lot more faith in humanity than her father and parts ways with him to start do things in her own way) and someone who creates Wrath

Hi I meant to answer this earlier! And no you're not mixing things up, Damian's second (I think) appearance was running to the Batcave to escape possession, resulting in both him and Tim being kidnapped, and Ra's doing a whole Make Bruce Choose Who Gets Possessed speech (though I'm not sure if Ra's could follow through on that threat, considering that he specifically had to possess Dusan (his son) instead of any of his other loyal followers when the clock ran out).

I think the Lazarus Pits are referred to as alchemy occasionally, so there's a lot of overlap here.

Headcanon Dump; Part One!

@singulos I had these running my head like the game minions too long. :D

Shieda Kayn and Rhaast

The wedding day was planned by all three, which ended up successful and overall fun! Minus the cake on her face, Rhaast did that on purpose. They all live together happily!

Rhaast likes to tease her when fully active. Meaning lack of personal space, resting his head on hers while snuggling and or trying to steal kisses.

Kayn (including Shadow Assassin form), affectionate but slightly sneaky if in his other form. Most likely showing a flirting side, pulling into the shadows, and or walking through walls to be a kiss thief.

Kayn doesn't like seeing her overworked, or overtired. He'll carry to bed, and not Soldan out of his sight until she's feeling better. It helps, and ends up asleep on his chest. (Rhaast will just haul her to the couch, placed on his lap, and snuggles non-agressively.)

Protective, and violent. Soldan has the best, and scariest guard dog privileges. Running won't save whoever provoked their wife, and gets hugged tightly afterwards.

Settrigh 'Sett'

Since Soldan was the only one who responded to his advertisement, she proved herself to be worthy and got accepted after the intitation fight.

Sett is as subtle as a sledgehammer when he tries flirting. He's bluntly honest, but watching her blush does make it even better when trying again.

Hugs Soldan after a match she wins, not too tightly. Due to Setts' height, it's rather engulfing and her face is in his chest on accident. Then makes sure being patched up is taken care of.

Soldan has met his mother! She's delightful, and really nice. Super proud of her son, but teases her for liking Sett. She gets all flustered about the topic.

Sett carries Soldan with one arm when not in the arena. Training sessions last a few hours, the hard work is worth the improvement and skills! He's proud, and walks her home to be more safe.

Arkon

Soldan has been also, carried off by him. One the tails around her waist, and Arkon just sprints off. She never figured out why, but seems fine with this.

They go hunting together! Soldan makes the noises to catch prey off guard, and signals Arkon to go in when ready. It's messy, but fun at the end!

Flirting banter, Soldan is more likely the type to banter instead and go in denial. Huffy, but then gets licked on the face. She's used to it, Rhaast also does that.

Walking and chatting is nice on warm days. Sunbathing as well! Soldan knows the best spots, so she always informs Arkon on her location. Easy to find!

Snuggling is comfortable. Soldan is warm, but also like body heat to stay awake during the day. Tails staying near her side, but will end up napping on Arkon.

Shadow Serpent

Base used (For uniform reference)

Type: Mage (Mid Lane) Range: Medium Recall animation: Spiralling shadows cover her body, and she sinks into her shadow to respawn. Joke animation: Playing with a throwing knife, tossing it up too high and it lands too close near the right foot. Dance Reference ( 00:16 to 00:20 )

Attacks

Auto Attack: Shadow-like snakes firing out from her left hand only, the sharp black nails summon them easily.

Q-Shadow Barrier Immune to magic damage for 1.2 seconds, a spiraling black shield surrounds her body and dissappearing into her body afterwards.

W-Burst Kick Vanishing into a nearby shadow, ambushing out in seconds to deliver a hard hitting kick with the left leg.

E-Shade Serpent Turning into her shadow form, merging into the dark and diving out with rapid swipe of large obsidian black 'claws'.

R-Obsidian Thorns Large vine-like shapes come out from her shadow, almost resembling large thorns. Wrapping around the enemy, for melee and magic damage.

Relationships!

Shieda Kayn Her husband, taught the ability to learn shadow magic. Got married semi-privately in the Shadow Order temple, and now living together happily. Shadow Assassin form Kayn: He's always close, either in her own shadow or nearby. Protective, but only extremely flirty to his wife. Rhaast: Her left eye has an eerie glow to it. It doesn't fade out, and visible constantly. Just as protective, yet likes to be a huge menacing tease.

Passive, Shadow Touched: When either form is active, Kayn gives a magic damage bonus to her abilities. While Rhaast is more focused on melee damage bonus.

Sett Being a pit fighter apperentice, Soldan isn't just a mage. She's a skilled melee fighter, and he was impressed from how strong she was. There might be subtle flirting, once in a while. She's also met his mom, a very kind vastayan woman! Passive, Bosses' Favor: Sett gives her bonus melee damage, which can take down 1/3 health.

Lucian Getting to know him was slow, but after he found Soldan was getting married? He was happy for her. They get along well as friends! Senna: Lucians' wife, these two chat quite a bit over their husbands when not busy in combat. It's hilarious, Senna laughed at the 3am cake thief incident.

Yuumi: An adorable, magic cat by far. Soldan doesn't mind her company, it's comforting after a long day and 'book' is rather amusing.

Mordekaiser: Soldan sasses this sentiant suit of armor daily, which ends with him getting irritated to no end and she's proud of her work.

Braum: Soldan met him on her first trip to Freljord, and got her into a safe place to warm up. They started chatting, he was excited to hear about her travels and survival tactics.Two bonded as friends over time, always eager to see her everytime.
