SEVENTEEN: FLESH IS WEAK

"The Ghosts had fixed silver, and resorted to stabbing and thrusting as the Qimurah swept into them. Most were simply bowled backwards by the superior power and force of the Archenemy creatures. Even with bayonets driven deep into blistered neon flesh, they were carried over or dragged backwards." Well, this situation isn't going well. For the Ghosts, I mean. The Qimurah are doing fine.

"A few bags of human meat." D:

"The air distorted as grav-pulses blasted from the ends of the staves. The next two Qimurah fell back, their skulls crushed like eggs. Criid and Obel tried to fire again, but the Mechanicus weapons took a moment to cycle." Of course the really good weapons are nerfed by reload times.

"Hands grabbed him from behind and shoved him down onto his face. Wes Maggs was kneeling on his back, hosing rapid fire at the oncoming Qimurah. Trooper Galashia was behind him, lighting it up over Maggs’ head. The combined fire swatted the Qimurah off the ledge. It plunged towards the channel below just as the Ghosts’ explosives began to go off." That probably saved his life, but ow.

"The Ghosts defending the duct mouth were hurled off their feet by the hammering wave, rolling and tumbling, deaf, dazed and blind." Uh oh.

Oh, the Qimurah have the stones. That's bad.

"Big purse was actually ‘big perc’, the cover-sheet abbreviation for ‘big percentage casualty rate’, indicating forty-five per cent losses or higher. To Kolosim it always sounded like some thieving bastard had got away after a brutal mugging." That's bad, too. Will things get better before this ends or will it just be grimdark and depressing?

"What if they were about to come back? Switch the feth back on? Wake up and resume their kill-frenzy?" Yeah, that's a worry with the Ad Mech. You never know what they'll do.

"Gaunt doubted he would ever see Ban Daur flash his eager smile again." Well, yeah, I'm pretty sure Elodie's dead.

"In truth, he hadn’t known his daughter any better than Gol had known his. But the damage was primal. It defied rationalisation. A child was a child, no matter how estranged, no matter how false." ;_;

"Except she had been the war all along. The war had been dwelling with them, within their ranks, inside their trust, inside their minds and their hearts, waiting to reveal its true nature." She's kind of an analogy, that way.

"Gaunt was heartened a little to see Blenner show a simple, human response of sympathy for once." Yay?

And Daur just goes off into the darkness in search of Elodie.

"'Yes, Oysten.’ ‘Sir, are you hit?’ ‘No. What did you want?’" Stop lying, Rawne.

"Rawne took her by the face with both hands and smacked a kiss on her brow." ADORABLE

"Oysten touched her face where Rawne had seized her with both hands to kiss her. There was blood on her fingers. She’d known. Just the way he had been moving, holding himself. Always a lying bastard. That look he’d shot her." He's hiding it, but not that well.

"He put the first armour piercing hard round through Sekran’s face, the second and third through his torso. By then, there was very little left of him above the sternum or between the shoulders. The Qimurah folded and collapsed in the middle of the open yard." That's something.

"The front wall of the wrecked service shed collapsed, and the entire roof gave way. An avalanche of slabs and rockcrete roof tiles buried Aongus Brostin." Swear to fuck, he better not be dead.

"‘She said there were two of them, papa,’ said Dalin." Oh no.

Gen-Z: Το 47% θα δεχτεί οικονομικούς περιορισμούς για τη βιωσιμότητα

Σχεδόν το μισό (47%) της γενιάς Generation Z είναι πρόθυμο να δεχτεί βραχυπρόθεσμους οικονομικούς περιορισμούς, όπως χαμηλότερη αύξηση του ΑΕΠ, προκειμένου να γίνουν επενδύσεις με βάση μια μακροπρόθεσμη στρατηγική που προωθεί σε μεγαλύτερο βαθμό τη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη, σύμφωνα με την έρευνα της Dell Technologies.

Η έρευνα που έγινε σε 15 χώρες αποτυπώνει την άποψη των ενηλίκων της γενιάς Gen Z (18–26 ετών) σχετικά με τις πολιτικές κοινωνικής και οικονομικής ανάκαμψης. Σχεδόν τα δύο τρίτα (64%) των ερωτηθέντων πιστεύουν ότι η τεχνολογία θα π��ίξει σημαντικό ρόλο στην καταπολέμηση της κλιματικής κρίσης.

Με μεγάλο μέρος της Gen Z να δηλώνει πρόθυμο να υποστεί βραχυπρόθεσμους οικονομικούς περιορισμούς, η βιώσιμη ενέργεια (42%), η κυκλική οικονομία (39%) και οι βιώσιμες δημόσιες συγκοινωνίες (29%) βρέθηκαν στις τρεις πρώτες θέσεις όσον αφορά τους τομείς που οι κυβερνήσεις χρειάζεται κατά προτεραιότητα να επενδύσουν. Το ένα τέταρτο των ερωτηθέντων (25%) εξέφρασε επίσης την υποστήριξη για καλύτερη ενημέρωση των πολιτών σχετικά με την βιωσιμότητα.

Ο Aongus Hegarty, President International Markets της Dell Technologies, δήλωσε: «Η Gen Z θα είναι αυτή που θα επηρεαστεί περισσότερο από τις δημόσιες και ιδιωτικές επενδυτικές αποφάσεις που λαμβάνονται σήμερα και θα διευκολύνουν μια μακροπρόθεσμη, βιώσιμη ανάκαμψη. Οι απόψεις της Gen Z για το κατά πόσο οι επενδύσεις για ανάκαμψη του δημόσιου τομέα θα οδηγήσουν σε μια ακμάζουσα οικονομία εντός 10 ετών εμφανίζονται διαιρεμένες: το ένα τρίτο παγκοσμίως (32%) δηλώνει ότι κάτι τέτοιο δεν θα συμβεί ή θα συμβεί σε μικρό βαθμό, το 38% είναι αναποφάσιστο και το 29% είναι βέβαιο ότι θα συμβεί ή θα συμβεί σε πολύ μεγάλο βαθμό.

Όπως είναι λογικό, υπάρχουν γεωγραφικές διαφοροποιήσεις, με τη Σιγκαπούρη (56%) και την Κορέα (41%) να έχουν τους περισσότερους ερωτηθέντες που είναι αισιόδοξοι. Η Ιαπωνία (47%) και η Βραζιλία (49%) είχαν τον μεγαλύτερο αριθμό ερωτηθέντων που είναι απαισιόδοξοι.

Οι ερωτηθέντες δήλωσαν ότι το ψηφιακό μέλλον πρέπει να βασίζεται σε ισχυρή κυβερνοασφάλεια. Περισσότεροι από τους μισούς (56%) πιστεύουν ότι υπάρχει ανάγκη για καλά τεκμηριωμένη νομοθεσία και μεγαλύτερες επενδύσεις στην κυβερνοασφάλεια για την προστασία των εθνικών υποδομών και τη διασφάλιση ότι οι ιδιωτικές επιχειρήσεις πληρούν αυστηρά πρότυπα. Για να συμβεί αυτό και για να βελτιωθεί η εμπιστοσύνη στις κυβερνήσεις, το 38% των ερωτηθέντων θέλει ο ιδιωτικός και ο δημόσιος τομέας να συνεργάζονται και να ενεργούν με υπευθυνότητα ο ένας απέναντι στον άλλο.

Κλείνοντας το έλλειμμα σε ψηφιακές δεξιότητες και το ψηφιακό χάσμα

Η Gen Z αναγνωρίζει την αξία της ανάπτυξης αναγκαίων ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων για τη μελλοντική σταδιοδρομία. Τα τρία τέταρτα (76%) θεωρούν την εκμάθηση νέων ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων απαραίτητη για την αύξηση των μελλοντικών επιλογών σταδιοδρομίας ή σχεδιάζουν να τις αποκτήσουν.

Οι ερωτηθέντες πιστεύουν ότι το εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα θα μπορούσε να τους είχε προετοιμάσει καλύτερα σχετικά με τις ψηφιακές δεξιότητες. Πάνω από τα δύο πέμπτα (44%) δήλωσαν ότι το σχολείο τους δίδαξε μόνο πολύ βασικές δεξιότητες υπολογιστών και περίπου ένας στους δέκα (12%) δεν έλαβε καμία εκπαίδευση σχετική με τεχνολογία ή ψηφιακές δεξιότητες. Πάνω από το ένα τρίτο (37%) ισχυρίζονται ότι το σχολείο (έως τα 16) δεν τους προετοίμασε με τις τεχνολογικές δεξιότητες που απαιτούνταν για την καριέρα που σκόπευαν να ακολουθήσουν.

Για να γεφυρωθεί το κενό των ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων, το ένα τρίτο (34%) των ερωτηθέντων πρότεινε να γίνουν τα μαθήματα τεχνολογίας σε όλα τα επίπεδα της εκπαίδευσης πιο ενδιαφέροντα και ευρύτερα διαθέσιμα. Το ένα τέταρτο (26%) πιστεύει ότι τα υποχρεωτικά μαθήματα τεχνολογίας για ηλικίες έως 16 ετών θα ενθαρρύνουν τους νέους να ακολουθήσουν σταδιοδρομία σε τομείς της τεχνολογίας.

Ο κ. Hegarty πρόσθεσε: «Είναι σαφές ότι η Gen Z βλέπει την τεχνολογία ως ζωτικής σημασίας για τη μελλοντική τους ευημερία. Το 44% της Gen Z αισθάνεται ότι εκπαιδευτικοί και επιχειρήσεις θα πρέπει να συνεργαστούν για να γεφυρώσουν το κενό στις ψηφιακές δεξιότητες, λαμβάνοντας δε υπόψη την ταχύτητα με την οποία η τεχνολογία συνεχίζει να εξελίσσεται, αυτό απαιτεί διαρκή συνεργασία».

Σχετικά με το πού οι κυβερνήσεις θα πρέπει να επενδύσουν κατά προτεραιότητα για να βοηθήσουν στο κλείσιμο του ψηφιακού χάσματος που παρατηρείται μεταξύ χωρών, δημογραφικών και κοινωνικοοικονομικών ομάδων, η Gen Z θεωρεί την πρόσβαση σε συσκευές και συνδεσιμότητα για ευάλωτες ομάδες (33%) και τη συνδεσιμότητα σε αγροτικές περιοχές (24%) ως τα σημαντικότερα σημεία εστίασης.

Επίσης με βάση τη έρευνα:

Για να υποστηριχθεί η οικονομική ανάπτυξη, οι τρεις κορυφαίες προτεραιότητες για τη Gen Z παγκοσμίως είναι η βελτίωση της υγειονομικής περίθαλψης (21%), οι επενδύσεις στην εκπαίδευση ώστε να συμβάλει στην κάλυψη του κενού σε δεξιότητες (11%) και η επένδυση σε βιώσιμες/πράσινες υποδομές (11%).

Πάνω από το μισό (57%) της Gen Z έχει αρνητική ή ουδέτερη γνώμη για το κατά πόσο τα προσωπικά τους στοιχεία αποθηκεύονται από τους παρόχους υγειονομικής περίθαλψης με τον προσήκοντα τρόπο.

Πάνω από το μισό (55%) της Gen Z θεωρεί την ευέλικτη και την εξ αποστάσεως εργασία ως σημαντικό παράγοντα για την επιλογή εργοδότη.

Gods & Goddesses of Ireland: Aengus

Aengus’s Backstory: Also known as Aongus, Aonghus, Angus, or Oengus in Old Irish his name essentially translates to “unique force or unequal vigor.” His father is the Dagda and his mother is the Goddess Bóinn, who is the deity who rules over the Boyne river. Aengus was born out of an affair and it is said that to hide Bóinn’s pregnancy the Dagda made the sun stand still for 9 months. This means that Aengus was conceived and born in one day. Additionally, it is said that Aengus was born (and conceived) on Samhain. In Irish mythology, as well as being his birthday, it is the day he is finally able to obtain the woman he loves whom he met in his dreams and fell into a wasting sickness due to his desire for her.  His mother, Boann, goddess of the River Boyne, and a cow goddess whose milk formed the Milky Way (Bealach na Bó Finne, or the White Cow's Way in Irish), searched Ireland for a year, then his father, the Dagda, did the same. Finally, King Bodb Derg of Munster found her after a year. After this, Aengus wooed her and they flew off in the form of swans. Aengus is a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann and the God of Love, Youth and Poetry. Even though Aengus is not seen as a god of great power, someone to be fearful of like Lugh, Dagda or the Morrígan, he would certainly be ranked high among the gods, being the son of Dagda, Earth God and the father of the gods. While he was young, Aengus dispossessed the Dagda of his home, Brú na Bóinne. He arrived after the Dagda had shared out his land among his children, and none was left for Aengus, so Aengus asked his father if he could live in Brú na Bóinne – the central spiritual spot by the Boyne, the river whose goddess is Bóinne – for "a day and a night", and the Dagda agreed. Irish has no indefinite article, so "a day and a night" is the same as "day and night", which covers all time, and so Aengus took possession of Brú na Bóinne permanently

Important Posessions/Symbols: It is said that Aengus owns a magical horse so large it can carry an entire household, a cloak that is many colors but appears only one color to anyone who is about to die. Also, it is said that four swans circle his head and he owns a golden harp.

Dal 7 settembre, nel suo nuovo ruolo, riportando a Bill Scannell (presidente di Dell Technologies, Global sales and Customer operations), Dagher guiderà a livello mondiale la strategia, la visione e l’implementazione del programma per i partner.

Con questo nuovo incarico, Dagher rientra in Dell Technolgies dopo tre anni trascorsi come presidente di Cisco Systems Canada. Prima del suo ingresso in Cisco, ha ricoperto ruoli di leadership nelle vendite nel segmento Enterprise e Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) di Dell Technologies. In precedenza, ha contribuito alla guida del canale di Bell Canada per 13 anni.

Rola Dagher succede a Joyce Mullen, che dopo una carriera di 21 anni in Dell Technologies, ha lasciato la società lo scorso luglio.

Nel corso degli anni, i partner hanno richiesto un maggior coinvolgimento fin dalle fasi iniziali delle opportunità di vendite e da queste indicazioni ne è nato un programma di allineamento con i principali team di vendita in ciascuna regione.

Le vendite di canale sono ora allineate ai leader delle vendite nordamericane e internazionali, John Byrne e Aongus Hegarty. Per facilitare e semplificare la collaborazione, l’azienda ha nominato un nuovo International Channel Lead, Diego Majdalani, che riporta a Hegarty. I responsabili del canale delle varie region Alvaro Camarena, Anwar Dahab, Tian Beng Ng e Frank Wu continueranno a ricoprire i loro attuali ruoli rispettivamente per LatAm, EMEA, APJ e Greater China, riportando a Majdalani, con stretto allineamento a Dagher e al team. Majdalani ha guidato le vendite per la regione dell’America Latina negli ultimi sette anni maturando una profonda conoscenza dei partner.

Denise Millard proseguirà alla guida di Dell Technologies Global Alliances, riportando a Bill Scannell. I team di Global Alliances e Channel continueranno a lavorare insieme garantendo sinergie tra tutti i partner. Gregg Ambulos, leader del canale North America, continuerà nel suo ruolo e riporterà a John Byrne.

Rispetto al passato, questa nuova struttura – pur mantenendo una forte presenza globale – consente a Dell Technologies di supportare ancor meglio i partner all’interno delle aree geografiche, promuovendone la coerenza operativa e al contempo lavorando in sinergia con i principali team di vendita.
