So, I may have made a couple of parent ocs for the twins. I've never, like, done anything like this before since ocs never really interested me, but seeing all of the different takes other people have had for their parents and my own enjoyment of repetitivly "small town-ifying" them made me wanna try it out.

Now I'm left with parent ocs that I love.

They're names are Mel and Nico and there's a bunch of more info about them under the cut if you're interested! Also, feel free to ask about them!

Mel:

Short for Mellisa, but only her family (and sometimes Nico) calls her that

The twins get most of their looks from her (grey eyes, tall, bit of a toothpick), although she's kinda built so the toothpick genes aren't that visible in her

Worked as a car/other vehicle mechanic, retired now but still pops into the shop a couple times a week to help out but mostly for fun now

Drives a motorcycle, didn't let the boys on it when they were small so only really uses it if it's just her/only with Nico

Was never really that interested in battling, has an old Scolipede from when she was young and took in a Scrafty that was abandoned at the shop as a Scraggy a couple years after the boys moved out.

Had a sister (idk her name yet) that she was close to, but she died when the boys were around 12 or so

Loud

Bisexual and will make it your problem

Didn't really care if the boys swore when they were kids, swore in front of them

Nico:

Short for Nicandro, only parents call him that

Much shorter than his wife and sons, is lovingly made fun of for this

Emmet, and occasionally Ingo, like to tease him for being old

Boys get their grey hair from him

Paldean, moved to Unova when he was around 10

Has a few siblings, no one is really close with each other. Not due to anything bad, just from drifting apart and not really contacting each other anymore.

Has a Wugtrio he had since he was a kid and an Orthworm he caught during a trip back to Paldea in his early 20s

Also not much of a battler, prefers to fish

Man, he loves fishing

"Hmm, my son is upset? I'll take him fishing."

Not the best with words, would rather give people things or take them places to show he cares

Also bisexual, but no one expects it and thinks it's funny to surprise people with it

Uh, that's the sort of basics I got for them so far. I'm trying to flesh them out more with some of the prompts for that November prompt list I'm following. I'll mention when a fic is about them or features them!

Inuyasha & Demisexuality

i think halfway into writing this i thought about just cramming all my thoughts into a semi-coherent rant due to a combination of a.) lack of access to decent translations of the manga and b.) paranoia about over-analyzing scenes and coming off as delusional (i think by now it's probably too late to thwart that claim) buuut this headcanon in particular is near and dear to me so i want to try and get as in depth as possible.

what is demisexuality?

in simple terms, demisexuality is when an individual doesn't experience primary attraction - that is, the sort of attraction based on immediate observable (often physical) characteristics - and instead only experiences secondary attraction first: the type of attraction that forms after the development of a deep emotional bond.

inuyasha and kikyo

this aforementioned term perfectly describes inuyasha and his relationships with the only women he's ever loved romantically. you could make the claim that his inability to feel primary attraction first stems from his trust issues and not inherent sexual orientation. and to that, i would disagree - he and kikyo develop an emotional bond despite an unspoken lack of trust, which may have improved had naraku not meddled in their lives. still, both find solace in each other's similarities, loneliness, and "outlier" status (though the similarities are in isolation only, if i'm being completely honest) and establish a connection that persists post-revival.

inuyasha eventually did start to feel primary attraction to kikyo during their time together - in the second chapter of the manga, when he compares kagome to her, he states that kikyo "looked pretty."

[source - viz. i haven't been in this fandom long, but what i've gathered is that there are a lot of mis-translations of this manga, even from viz. since i have yet to buy physical copies of the manga and don't have an account for the site, i'm going to be using fan-scans for the rest of these, which hopefully won't really affect what i'm trying to convey since i'll be looking at character expressions rather than dialogue for most of them.]

i'd also note the order in which he lists those traits: kikyo looked intelligent and pretty. her intelligent appearance is the first part of her he remembers, which i think underscores his priorities in this regard. he values things like intelligence and companionship - facets that come to light when developing secondary attraction towards someone - more than aspects of primary attraction.

inuyasha and kagome

as mentioned before, demisexuals don't feel physical attraction before establishing a tight emotional bond. the most blatant examples i could think of this were any instances in which inuyasha sees kagome nude and his difference in reaction - in particular, during the yura of the hair and togenkyo arcs, which are roughly seventy-three chapters apart. there are two new moons in that time, and from that we can say at least two months have passed.

chapter six: yura of the hair

kagome's bathing below him, and i'm sorry, but this expression literally screams "zero fucks given." he does not care in the slightest. not a blush. not a spot of red on his cheeks. not a sweatdrop. not a tee-hee. if i were to describe what he's feeling in this moment i would say "extreme ire." when she uses the sit command on him, it's on the assumption that he's "peeking," but kaede understands that it's actually because inuyasha is trying to steal a shard of the shikon jewel.

"huh?" - he sounds genuinely confused that she reached that conclusion, even though he was quite literally peering over the cliff's edge in what obviously has very perverse connotations. it's almost like he doesn't understand why kagome would think his actions come from a place of sexual attraction because that sort of thing just isn't on his mind at all, and he doesn't get why it would be in the first place.

another extremely blatant example can be see in miroku's introductory chapter: chapter 51, the delinquent priest:

do i even have to say anything. this scene also further emphasizes my previous point - before, the only reason he was there was to try and steal kagome's jewel shard. if his true intentions had been driven by primary attraction, this would have been an opportune moment to "peep." in his words, however, he just isn't interested. note that he could have said something along the lines of "i wouldn't do something like that" (which, if he was attracted to her in that way from the start, wouldn't have done anyway) but specifically i'm not interested. the primary attraction is not there in the slightest. at least, not until:

chapter eighty two: fateful night in togenkyo

the scene i'm talking about needs no introduction, but for context: kagome's half-freaking out after having woken up in a sake bath. inuyasha breaks down the door to come and rescue her, accidentally seeing her naked in the process. well, i'm sure his reaction won't be that dif-

...it's only one panel-

okay, two-

i think at this point it's fairly obvious that primary attraction has developed. besides the fact that he's spent three panels trying not to look like he's having a quasi allergic reaction, it's been approximately two months since they've met, and by now they've definitely formed the deep emotional bond required for him to begin feeling any primary attraction at all. in fact, the chapter where he tells kagome "there's no replacement for you" - that chapter, where he's vulnerable and honest and opening up to her, strengthening their bond further, (ch. 78, a tender smell) is directly before the togenkyo arc begins, and, thus, just before these scenes occur. these chapters have all been building up secondary attraction, and now that primary attraction is just starting to show up.

several chapters later we have this iconic panel from 173:

this is such a look of awe, as though he's gazing up at a goddess. jaw dropped, eyes-wide, words trailing off awe. he's entranced. fully head-over-heels in love, feeling both primary and secondary attraction in regards to kagome, and this trend only continues throughout the entirety of the manga.

conclusion + extra thoughts

my belief in this headcanon comes from not just the evidence depicted above, but because i just related a ton reading those scenes. i found myself just nodding along (as someone who's demisexual themselves!) plus, since ace-spectrum representation is so rare, it's nice to see it reflected in a character whose story and relationships i love dearly.

She can’t bear to face anyone since she dropped out of college. She had to talk to her parents, obviously, but it’s been almost a year since they spoke. But they didn’t yell. They both just seemed…sad. Tired. And that was so much worse. It was like they had given up on her. Grace doesn’t know how to explain. She still hasn’t quite managed to explain it even to herself. Would anyone understand? Freddie never demanded an explanation—she loved Grace no matter what—but Grace was sure she wouldn’t get it. Freddie was passionate about so many things. Freddie was the sort of person who would probably go on to get a Master’s and a Doctorate or maybe two or three, because she just couldn’t decide what she loved the most. And Grace? Grace barely even felt like a person in college. She tried to do all kinds of things, join clubs, meet people, take classes she thought might be interesting. She tried to distance herself from Freddie, even, and she was not gentle. She tried to destroy herself over and over again, and make something entirely new. She tried to forge herself into someone interesting, someone worthwhile. But in the end, the truth always came crashing back to her. She can’t escape herself. She can’t escape how utterly unremarkable she is.

V³ had a pretty big fight at one point. viv was always going to leave for arasaka but v never understood or accepted it. they argued for hours and when vincent didn't chose her side, v stormed off to go on a weeklong bender. when she returned the flat was empty, both her siblings had left -and betrayed her. naturally, viv also felt betrayed by her childhood friend, all she asked for was support but instead she got called a traitor. i like to imagine this song plays on the radio one day after their reunion

TO ME this is THE streetkid song but it hits hard especially in this universe. as i mentioned before V³ thinks they picked the right path, they aren't gonna be beat (and honestly vincent is the only one who succeeded). viv had a good run but then she got kicked from the corp, lost her newest best friend, DIED and now has a whole other person stuck in her skull. v was stubborn, was homeless for a bit and is overall in a bad way (but then again, that's the only way she knows how to live so it's not as bad TO HER)

YES the song is about v not wanting to sign with a label and it is her final fuck you to the world of music. in reality that song is incredibly underproduced since by the time it was recorded the band had already broken up. v did ALL of it: singing, instruments, songwriting. editing magic made it come to life. depending on how it ends (yes there are multiple outcomes) viv will receive a shard with ALL of rotten's music, including THIS unreleased song and even some backstage footage from way back in the day when viv was still around.

At last I am enabled HE IS MY FUNNY LITTLE GREEN GUY AND I LOVE HIM I am honored to be chosen as a certified appreciatior ANYWAY SO UM let me just explain like. What he is rlly quick because there are so many different types of guys in the whole bleach world

you have humans, who live in the world of the living and souls (dead people) who also live in the world of the living and then you have hollows which are like corrupted souls that the soul reapers gotta defeat to get them to love on to the next life (which is in the soul society)(the soul reapers also live there)(the soul reapers are also dead people)(it’s like a whole reincarnation thing)

the hollows live in this other dimension called hueco mundo they look like this (the guy on the left- hollows are more “monster-y” looking whereas arrancars are more human looking but they still have the holes where their hearts should be-hence the term hollow)

So these guys called arrancars (that’s what ulquiorra is!!!) they’re hollows that have been modified to be kind of…like a cross between a soul reaper and hollows because they have swords (soul reaper thing) but are also hollows. Basically like. You have a bear and your like let me give that bear a gun. Like that. The main antagonist is responsible for all that for reasons™️ but that’s a whole other thing in it of itself. But yeah he’s like an an evil henchmen.

but onto greater, more important things

ok completely on a surface level his charcter design is like. 10/10

I don’t know much abt charcter design but since his colors are limited he really like stands out (it’s part of the reason why I think kny characters have such good designs because they stick to the two main color plus accent color)

He’s mostly black n white with accents with green which is just so striking and the green tear makeup is just *chefs kiss* PLUS the combination of the traditional Japanese hakufu pants combined with the almost (not rlly sure how to put it) like European tail coat kind of deal he’s got going on really is such an interesting combination of two different cultural fashions. Ichigo (the guy on the right) has kind of a similar deal going on with the pants and the more western looking tuxedo looking deal and they’re design are supposed to Parallel each other for thematic reasons but PERSONALLY I think ulquiorra does it way better . But idk Maybe I’m biased!!

And there’s his other powered up forms which are just so cool

He’s so edgy. I love him this slaps so hard I cannot deny he’s so creaturecore

ok so now. Plot stuff

so basically his whole deal is that he’s a nihilist. Throughout his appearance he’s always like oooh nothing matters I don’t care blah blah blah despite the fact that he has emo make up. He does NOT put the emotion in emo. (Which, at least my impression of emo is about wearing emotions on your sleeve. I don’t know much abt emo as like a whole but if anyone has any like critique on my definition please let me know I’d love to learn more) My man is emo in style but is like yeah whatever I don’t feel emotions I don’t have a heart I’m not human don’t think of me as a human I’m a logical emotionless creature yadayada.

it’s such an interesting design choice to me because it really highlights how…hypocritical his worldview is. As the story goes on you can see his whole nothing matters deal kind of crack, towards his finally battle we see him get angry and surprised and then (spoiler alert) love right before he dies.

And you really can’t talk about ulquiorra without talking about orihime.

orihime was kidnapped basically by orders of the main antagonist because she has powers that he needs for reasons™️. It’s kind of a long explanation why so I’ll just leave it at that. But the whole reason Orihime is there was because she loves her friends, and she goes over to the side of the enemy because she didn’t want her friends to get hurt (basically the “bad guys” were like come with us or we’ll kill your friends and she was like. Well I guess I have to go because I love my friends) which is like the complete opposite of ulquiorra because he’s all like whatever friendship love and bonds are all bull. But as he interacts with her he gets (upset?curious? Not sure of the wording) about what it means to have a heart (or a bond with another person really). I just love how as we move through the arc we see him gradually more humanized, partly as a result of orihime being all like. You’re wrong things DO matter but also because he IS human in a way.

specifically there’s a scene in his backstory one shot where orihime catches him sleeping and brings him food and it just shows that yeah maybe he’s not technically a regular guy but he gets sleepy and needs a little snack!!! He’s grumpy about it but I just love how it portrays him in such a different way than we usually get to see him. (He’s embarrassed he’s so funny. “Ooooh I take naps and eat snacks 🙄so embarrassing” He’s so silly)

As he talks to orihime throughout this arc he gets CLOSER to understanding as his whole nothing matters deal keeps getting shut down by her when he tries to convince her that nothing matters. But he really doesn’t GET it until right before his death when he realizes what “the heart” is. Because orihime showed him humanity and kindness he’s like oooohhhh I get it now. But at the last second which just is so…cries

anyway. He finally realizes what it means to care about something as he dies and it’s so tragic because this is the first time he’s ever felt anything and now he’s going to die reaching out to her. It’s probably THE most tragic anime scene I’ve ever watched it kills me literally Everytime I watch it screaming crying throwing up. You know the deal!!!

Then after that whole arc is finished the author published this art . And look at him. He’s so silly look at him

you know what would have been infinitely cooler than what we got in acv the last chapter? if eivor didn’t know what to do with odin in her mind and sought out reda.

reda, the boy she uncannily remembers but can’t quite place.

reda, the boy who tells her they must have known one another in a past life.

reda, the goddamn immortal merchant who eivor might have noticed never grows older over the years.

she finds reda in some far-flung corner of england. he smiles when she tells him her worries, offers comfort in the knowing that no, her experience is not so unique, there have been others like her. they talk about what it means to leave home and what it is to be lonely. when to know to say goodbye. when to heed the call in your gut and when to ignore it for what’s in front of you.

and when eivor’s still struggling with the choice of following the pull in herself or stay and try to protect everything she knows, reda just leans over and pats her hand.

“your life, wolf kissed, is a page in a much larger saga drawn of many heroes. you have built a home, a family, security for those you love. some of these chapters we can watch unfold, but we must know that others will be written long after us. nothing lasts forever. it would do you well to remember this, and take care you do not spoil the winds of change for those who follow on. you may bring in an unexpected storm with you.”

eivor’s clever enough to pick up the undertone. there are consequences to staying, as much as there are going. she asks for clarification, but reda offers no answers.

she understands now, somehow, even if the thought is misty and intangible. odin is pointing her towards that larger story. this is something she has to do, for reasons she doesn’t know, for people she doesn’t know, but whatever it is must succeed. there are stakes to her not going. there is danger.

“in another life, i hope to live to find myself proven right,” eivor says.

she asks reda to drop in to ravensthorpe from time to time, and leaves with a parting message. there is a travelling warrior who, should she ever be seen on english soil again, will assist them at the mention of eivor’s name. this warrior is called kassandra, and eivor watches a vague flicker of shock pass over reda’s otherwise stoic face.

“kassandra,” he repeats once, twice, three times. he licks his lips and gives eivor a smile that she can’t quite place. “now wolf-kissed, there is a name i have not heard quite some time.”

and now i can ask about the difference between animation and writing for you :D aside the obvious things, and since it's a sequence of events/actions/a story and going back to senseific: are there any parts there that you feel you'd have an easier time drawing/animating vs expressing it with words? and is there anything particular you were/are tempted to visualise in an artform (but haven't)?

more long answers below!

animation is certainly a special medium because you not only have way more control over how your audience experiences it (audio, pacing, etc) but you have to pay the cost of it being way more time and effort. so the most distinctive part of making my last project was that i had to stretch my resources as hard as i could. in other words, you can do a lot more! (/pos) but oh god, you HAVE TO DO A LOT MORE (/neg).

you kind of have to compromise somewhere -- your time, the quality of your work, your vision, your motivation. i know i'm inexperienced and that my motivation would give out, so my plan had to be practical. 30 seconds is a long span of time to fill.

i used colour to set the mood -- quick and low effort i used only lines, didn't colour anything in -- saving me time the movement is minimal -- i knew i couldn't do a lot at once, so i had to focus my efforts --

the shot of the eyes moving and of the kiss have the most movement, but are also the most sparse shots, allowing me to focus on getting the movement of this one thing right, without distraction

i create interest in other sections through contrasting shots, rather than using movement -- kuwana and yagami in bed together, then him alone -- the meaning is conveyed through the sequence, rather than any movement, and the music helps make the progression feel natural. following the beat, yknow

i also had to accept that the quality of my work was going to vary, and some of the illustrations would look good and others would just have to be serviceable, or it would never get done

and of course, my own experience -- i know the basics of csp's animation tools, but i don't know enough to make my life easy, you know? i was fighting the program, doing things inefficiently.

i had to think about how i was organising my layers/folders, i had to grab the audio and trim it and make sure it sounded right and... blah blah blah. you see what i mean, right? the format itself has so much potential, being able to create meaning through movement and contrasting shots and audio is great, but it's so strenuous (and i am not used to it) (not to gloat about how wow i did this and it was soooooo hard, nah, but this is what it was like for me at the novice level so like. for more involved work, just imagine... just imagine...) (or better yet, imagine with an example. you'd probably get more interesting answers about animation from @/phantasy14 than me)

by contrast, one of the best things about writing is that, at its core, you can just... open a document and type. not to downplay the effort that writers take, and yeah part of it is that my fanfic writing is Not That Complicated, but in the end... words are free, you know? i don't have to worry about straining my wrist, or if this would look better with an extra frame here or over here, what function i should be using in my program... i can kind of just get to the heart of the matter. i guess i kind of said something similar in the last post as well -- that writing makes it easier to dig into details and context, and the same applies here. since Words Are Free, you can really dig into the meat as much as you'd like. in a process like animation, any decision could add hours or days to your workload, so you have to be absolutely certain that the decision is worth it. this conflict between the artist's idea and the effort is a very defining difference in the mediums, i think.

so, aside from Fighting The Art Process, i suppose i should talk about why this idea ended up being an animatic instead of say, writing. first of all, the song, ofc -- it was the whole inspo, and it's nice to work with it directly. secondly, i think, is because i was trying to convey an emotion more than anything. this is where that ambiguity/detail difference between mediums comes in. i'm portraying yagami missing kuwana, and just that alone. i'm not trying to explain what he's thinking specifically, or why, or even the exact nature of their relationship before all this. what i'm conveying is i miss you. and the most direct, most blunt way to express this is to contrast being together with being apart. to fixate on the features of the other person so to depict a yearning for them. the ending contrasts a remembered(/imagined? you decide) smiling kuwana against kuwana walking away, of him leaving.

you were here (smiling, with me) + you left = i miss you

it just makes sense. writing this would have necessitated detail, would have necessitated more context, and muddied the feeling which is conveyed so concisely through the video instead. look at how i've written yagami missing kuwana so many goddamn times. it takes so many more words, it forces you to hold onto something more concrete like thoughts and events in order to convey the emotion, instead of depicting it on its own. so yeah, the ambiguity of illustration combined with the contrast achieved via sequence, these were necessary to convey this feeling as directly as possible. i also just think it feels more elegant. there's room for the audience to breathe and really feel the difference between kuwana being there and kuwana being gone. the imagery is blunt but the feeling itself surprisingly isn't... at least imo. it just wouldn't feel the same written, would it? i hope that answers your question.

anyway onto the next part... senseific <3

it's good that you named that as a specific example because i never thought about it, but now that you mention it there are absolutely some parts i would probably have an easier time drawing than writing

your honour..... (with a massive sigh) THE FIRST KISS SCENE. HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME. FOR MONTHSSSSSS. it's. sigh. well where do i start with this one... the thing that makes this difficult for me is that it's very much a "wow this is a bad idea but we're doing it anyway" kind of kiss, right? and like. because they shouldn't be doing it, it's been troubling me all this time if their trains of thoughts even make sense. i don't want to force it, but it's difficult to direct things into that direction when i know that they know they probably shouldn't be doing it... i have revised it and i think it reads kind of alright now? but i'm still worried about it...

and this. would be great. for illustration. i wouldn't have to explain shit, i just have to make sure i convey an atmosphere that lends itself for them to make this dumb decision. that's not to say that i wouldn't care if it didn't make sense, of course not, but if it was a visual format, i could just let the atmosphere speak for itself, you know... they're alone together, they'd both been drinking a few hours ago, kitakata comes close, and though yagami sees it coming he doesn't seem to stop him... and it just. there it is. it's happened. no need to say anything, just let the atmosphere and the audience's imagination do the work. the lack of detail in the medium would work in my favour. no issue.

the other one that comes to mind is a scene where kitakata and yagami smoke on the roof together. it's a similar situation where ambiguity would play better for the scene. there comes a point where the conversation stops between them and it just kind of sits. it feels really clumsy having to explain in words that this is one of the first few peaceful moments between them, that yagami doesn't mind being around him for once. this would be better expressed with just visual space. letting the audience feel that peace, that quiet moment between them. i'd draw them apart, so you can see the visual distance between them, and yet they're together, and they're quiet and maybe just maybe they could become closer, could choose to spend time around each other without getting on each other's nerves... or at least that would be the implication. it's much cleaner than having to spell it out in writing.

oh! and i remember i was tempted to draw kitakata's messy desk at some point. that one's easier depicted with words but i just think it could be fun.

AND IF I MAY BE SELF INDULGENT AND BRING UP "are you seeing anyone?" AGAIN..... that gag. just that gag and nothing else around it. i mean. now that i think about it, it's kind of joke-comic-y.... but the joke itself relies on a bunch of stuff beforehand... perhaps not...

a group photo would be nice too... a club photo perhaps... get everyone in there. just some mundane snapshots of everyone in their daily lives... hell, i could even throw sawa in there! i definitely should do that!

and something sexy... i should draw something sexy with kitakata and yagami...

i ought to add some of these to my mental list of things to draw...

Epic Andie cringe moment just now oh my god.

Someone sent me an ask. I was super excited to answer the ask, so I started writing an answer right away even though I'm on mobile and unable to add the pictures I need. It was a long answer.

I tried to save a draft of the answer, but something made tumblr mobile revert the "save draft" button back to a "post" button when I wasn't expecting it. (I think it was something to do with opening the readmore in my drafts folder). I accidentally posted the unfinished, imageless version of the post.

Usually, if I fuck up and post what's meant to be a draft, I'll jump in and set the post to private asap so I can take it off my viewable blog without fully deleting everything I typed.

I tried to do this with today's premature answer, but asks don't have a "post privately" button. They have a "send privately" button. I figured that would be just as good for my purposes (my purpose being hide the damn thing asap without deleting my whole long answer). I threw an edit on top of the post that apologized to the person getting the answer in their inbox and said I'd finish/fix it soon. I hit send.

I forgot, crucially, that answering an ask privately removes it from your view for some ungodly reason. I cannot see my privately sent answer. It is as good as deleted, except now I've roped in the poor asker as well.

Anyway, I had to send a long string of dms to the person that sent the ask explaining the whole nonsense situation and asking if they could copy/paste my own post back to me. Tumblr is a good and functional website.

Ok so assuming you know the allegations I won’t go into all that this is just a summary on the court case (typing this on my laptop makes this feel like a school assignment)

On February 2, 2022, ATL (Alex, Jack, Zack, and Rian) filed a defamation suit against 3 defendants (Jane Doe 1, 2, and 3). You can read the first Rolling Stone article about it here, and it also has the full first filed document available at the bottom of the page.

Jane Doe 1 is the original TikTok allegation (who made the video about them inviting her on their bus), Jane Doe 2 is the ATLStatement Twitter account with the one big allegation, and Jane Doe 3 is the Twitter user (dietsodasage) who claimed to have found 97 allegations.

This initial filing states:

● The social media posts are defamatory and the people posting them knew that and did it with malicious intent

● Because the people are anonymous, they had to take this to court instead of handling it directly

● The allegations tarnished their reputation and caused them to “lose business opportunities and suffer cancellation of scheduled events” and the false accusations “drown out the voices of the real victims of sexual abuse who deserve to be heard”

● The amount of damages exceeds $25,000 and the damages come from “lost or diminished touring opportunities, music publishing, sponsorship opportunities, and loss to reputation.”

● They will donate any proceeds from the lawsuit to charities that support victims of sexual abuse

On February 4, there was a “Case Management Conference” scheduled for June. From my research this appears to be the sort of thing where defendants and prosecutors meet to try and settle things outside of court.

On February 25 and March 1 (as stated by Twitter in one of the later documents) ATL’s legal team served Twitter with subpoenas to identify the people. And on March 31 they said no you didn’t provide the standard info needed to unmask anonymous people. ATL’s lawyers then issued a third subpoena.

On May 17, their lawyer submitted a request to move the Conference to October since they hadn’t been able to yet identify who the defendants were.

On October 3, the same thing happened and they moved the Conference to January 2023.

On November 4, they filed a subpoena to get information from a VPN company in Texas to identify the owner of an IP address.

On November 10, there was a new document on what they’d done to request information on Doe 2 (sending subpoenas to Twitter and TikTok).

● TikTok complied but was only able to give an IP address (presumably which was the catalyst for reaching out to the VPN company) and tell them that they registered for TikTok via the ATLStatement Twitter account.

● Twitter wrote back saying haha no, you did not do X Y and Z first and you need to do so (there’s a lot of legal jargon here that I understand like 50% of so I’m not going to go into detail). They also confirmed that they did notify Doe 2 of the subpoena and their attempts to identify them and so far they have not intervened or objected to the subpoena.

● Another interesting point from this article is that at first, the subpoena was asking for information about two of the defendants (dietsodasage and ATLStatement), but they are now only focusing on only Doe 2.

So then, on November 10, they filed another motion with all of the things Twitter requested in order to comply with the subpoena.

● Lots more legal jargon in this one

● This also included statements from each member of the band stating that:

○ The social post caused damages

○ All allegations are denied

○ The only funny thing to come out of this mess: “None of my bandmates has ever walked in on me engaging in sexual relations with anyone.”

● Also included a statement from Dawn (their fan club manager) who says she never got specific people into meet and greets or did anything that the ATLStatement account alleged.

On November 22, Twitter wrote back and was like “hey court, can you decide if this is legal or not? Like are we good to share this info or does it go against the first amendment? Because their statement and the tweet are contradictory.”

● Twitter and ATL’s lawyers tried to have it out via phone instead of all these documents and that’s where it got narrowed down to only getting identifying information for Doe 2 but because of “the seriousness of the allegations” Twitter is like idk court you gotta decide

● Twitter provided notice to ATLStatement but Twitter does not have any data for dietsodasage so they couldn’t provide notice to them.

Finally, on December 7, the court approved the order for Twitter to disclose the identity of ATLStatement because:

● The plaintiff stated their reasons for needing it

● Twitter was just asking the court to make a decision they didn’t necessarily oppose

● Twitter has already notified ATLStatement and they have not objected to the subpoena

● The one previous case Twitter was citing isn’t “good law” (ok whatever that means) and the plaintiff doesn’t have the information they need to prosecute their case but Twitter does.

So Twitter has ten days from December 7 to provide identifying information for Doe 2 (ATLStatement).

Disclaimer that I am not a lawyer I’ve just read all of these documents extensively so if I’m wrong about anything... no one sue me?

tldr; at the moment, they’re mostly going after ATLStatement. Twitter has to cough up their info in the next seven days. Who knows where we go from here!
