From Ursa Major day 3. rabbitreverie and I "twinned" Fée d'une Fleur/Soupir d'Ange with corsets. There are quite a few differences, but an attempt was made to keep the vibe similar!
I think the relaxing blue and pink tones contrast perfectly ☺
Some may recognize this is a recycled coord from around 2019, I really liked it so I rewore it 😅
(Therefore, you can see the coord breakdown on one of my old posts of the same outfit)

There is something about classic literature that hits different - which is not to say that modern literature lacks depth - there is just something so incredible about reading something and knowing that these same words were consumed by people decades, centuries before you took your first breath. And they loved and felt the stories the way you do& despite all the time separating you you’re still connected…

I like to think that, after being possessed by a fit of whimsy to a frankly alarming degree, Chapman buys the Funns these for Christmas

Eric Chapman becomes hot whenever he becomes deranged. Whenever the Funns needle their way past his perfect mask and he starts screaming or acting like an ass back at them? Hot.
The beautiful golden boy of town? Ugh. Disgusting.
But when he's been annoyed to the breaking point? When the meanness, the snarkiness, the PANIC jump out? When his voice cracks as he starts yelling about how to hide a body?
I'd fuck that boy messy.

oh btw when I talk about Antigone in any context I usually am quoting from Antigonick (Anne Carson) bc I have like half of it memorized (it's to the point and poetic and one day for a Thursday poetry read I'm going to do the compare case histories chorus piece) but actually my favorite version of the "Dear sister, my dead are mine" line is from an 1899 translation by George Herbert Palmer and it says "'Tis not for him to keep me from my dead"

thinking about antigone funn and eric chapman again. they're polar opposites and yet so similar. their character arcs are parallel, but in opposite directions- antigone slowly becoming more confident while chapman's "mr. sunshine man" performance begins to crack. they bond over death and embalming fluids. they're competing rivals, yet they're the only person who truly understands the other. their lives are irreversibly changed by the other's existence. no one has done it like them.

one of the funniest things about the ninjago antigone poll is the amount of people saying that everyone knows mr lego but no one knows antigone. like this might be a generation gap or something because im 26 but i had no idea lego had made a tv show to advertise their ninjago kits until this poll and i have been autistic about greek myth since i was a child 💀

Books I think the crows would enjoy:
Kaz: Frankenstein, One flew over the cuckoo's nest, The catcher in the Rye, The secret history, Crime and Punishment, No Longer Human, The silence of the lambs, Demon Copperhead, Eileen, Trainspotting, Hesse's and Cormac McCarthy's works, Antigone, Hamlet, The Stranger, Sherlock Holmes (when he was a child), Attack on Titan & Vinland Saga (manga)
Inej: The color purple, all of Toni Morrison's books, Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, Jane Eyre, Love in the Time of cholera, Mrs. Dalloway, The Bell Jar, a lot of Shakespeare's work, Antigone, Medea, White Nights, Wuthering Heights, Valley of the dolls, Play it as it lays, On earth we're briefly gorgeous, Sex and Rage
Wylan (he'd listen to audiobooks): Giovanni's Room, The picture of Dorian Gray, also the secret history, The great gatsby, The song of achilles, The Illiad, Shakespeare, Letters to a Young Poet, Demian, also Jane Austen's works and Wuthering Heights, Confession's of a Mask, Joan Didion's works
Jesper: That man doesn't read for shit nor does he have the patience to listen to most audiobooks but he'd like to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Harry Potter, definitely a lot of fantasy partly ya, On the Road and also The Great Gatsby.
Nina: Let's be honest she would probably read a lot of trashy romance novels or fun, lighthearted stuff, not that there's anything wrong with it she has endured enough. Would enjoy tropes like enemies to lovers, smut and ya. I have a feeling that she'd like Sarah J. Maas' stuff. I think she would also like Daisy Jones and the six and the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
Matthias: He doesn't care.
Feel free to leave suggestions.

I’m almost done listening to Wooden Overcoats, s4 ep2, and I’m crying about the Funns’ childhood.
In S3 ep3, they got called weird and were kicked out of the scouts.
In s3 ep4 the worst five-word sentence they could think of was “Mum. And. Dad. Are. Back.” Like, what? The worst thing you can imagine is your parents being around? I mean same, but dang, your parents sucked.
And there are other hints that their parents weren’t great, but season 4 episode 2 really just shows how awful their entire childhood was. They were outcasts in the village and everyone hated them, to various degrees, their parents, their peers, their teachers.
At the beginning of the Rudyard’s story Mr. Funn took Rudyard’s lunch money.
In their previous school the other kids called them weird and threw them into ponds. (The previous episode said that Rudyard can’t swim.)
They have a game they play called “happy families”
They got forced to be more active than they physically should have.
They had angry dogs chase them around the school.
Rudyard was told to ignore his imagination to avoid disappointment.
Antigone gets bullied by her peers.
I guess Rudyard was wearing a skirt, but at least that’s not what Mr. Askey had an issue with. No, his issue was Rudyard existing, so he had all the other kids to kick soccer balls at him as hard as they can.
Rudyard gets bullied by his peers, until a teacher comes, and then he’s bullied by his peers and his teacher.
Then Rudyard gets chased around the school by both his teachers.
At least, Ms. Khatri wasn’t really that bad, she encouraged Antigone, and even though she threw away the gerbil, she didn’t show outright disgust in front of Antigone.

Sibling Showdown!!!
Tumblr media
This showdown consists of 64 sibling sets facing off against each other, as well as a few one-off polls of sets who didn’t make the actual bracket but who I wanted to include in some capacity.  Polls will last a week.  Round One of section A will go live on April 16, with section B going live the day after, section C the day after that, and section D the day after that.
Propaganda is allowed!  I just ask that it be kept positive.  Argue for your faves instead of against someone else’s.  Every sibling set who made it in the showdown is there because someone wanted them to be, so keep it kind.
Will the winners be the siblings that love each other the most?  That are most capable of killing other sibling groups with their bare hands?  That have the most sibling swag?  It’s up to you to decide!  You get to choose the manner and parameters you judge each sibling set for.

On my first Wooden Overcoats listen through, I always pictured the Funns as looking strange and off-putting. And I loved them. Both the way people treat them and the way they act made it feel logical that they would look a little uncanny valley. A bit spooky. Not conventionally desirable at the very least.
And honestly, it was a bit empowering to think of these characters looking so unseemly but still be absolutely delightful. Because I love Antigone and Rudyard.
BUT. There is textual evidence of them being hot.
-When Madeline mentions how Rudyard photographs well and blind terror to something wonderful to his eyes.
-When the mayor mentions how good Rudyard looks in a suit.
-When Eric makes a deeply licentious, flirty comment about Antigone within seconds of knowing her.
-The local theater director is constantly making moves on Antigone and compares her looks to his beloved (dead) wife.
And that's just within the first few episodes. And honestly?
The Funns being hot is hilarious.
I love the idea that they are so bizarre and macabre and socially inept that thier hotness is totally drowned out most of the time. People look at Antigone, the super model, and thinks she's a ghastly undead creature. People hear Rudyard open his mouth and just see red, completely missing the movie star barking "Now look here".
Eric is a Plain Jane comparatively. And Rudyard being the beauty queen half of that dynamic is so interesting on so many levels. Mr-popular-but-secretly-insecure would immediately clock that his competition is drop dead gorgeous. And it would infuriate him and drive his competitive streak. But also potentially fuel some of the moments of homoerotic tension between them you could potentially read into the text.
It's also kind of liberating in a way. Because It means the Funns' personalities supersede their appearance completely. It's like in Howl's Moving Castle, how Sophie feels liberated by the curse because she's seen for her personality rather than as a sexual object. No magic here though, just two delightfully autistic morticians.
