Chinatowns More Vibrant After Pandemic, Anti-Asian Violence | New York News
Chinatowns More Vibrant After Pandemic, Anti-Asian Violence | New York News
By TERRY TANG, Associated Press The last week of April was a whirlwind for San Francisco’s Chinatown. The storied neighborhood debuted the “AAPI Community Heroes Mural,” a mostly black and white depiction of 12 mostly unsung Asian American and Pacific Islander figures on the wall of a bank. Three days later “Neon Was Never Brighter,” the first ever Chinatown contemporary arts festival, took…

Horrified by the surge of anti-Asian violence, she’s giving her community tools to protect themselves
Michelle Tran, a Chinese and Vietnamese American medical student living in the city, was horrified by this spike in violence and wanted to do something to help her community. “As an Asian American female, I’ve seen that we can be targeted for what we look like,” Tran said. “My friends started getting spit on and yelled slurs and being called, ‘Chinese Virus.'” Tran co-founded Soar Over Hate, a…

Hello WTC fans!
First and foremost I would like to say, that I do not condone harassment toward this person or her friends. This isn't a call out so much as generally warning any other new fans about this person. (please forgive me if there are any misspellings as I am visually impaired.)
This person, Uminetta, is a very popular translator on Umineko twitter, her Twitter handles are @Uminetta_,@UminettaRereads, and @uminettart. I'm also not attempting to cancel her or anything.
Tumblr media
Uminetta is not black and thus, it was not her place to make this comparison or use it as an example. I genuinely wanted to know why she referred to Black people as "blacks"(which has historically been used to dehumanize black people) I assumed she sincerely was not aware. However, she blocked me immediately after I asked.
Please, read these for more info. (she is attempting to hide her previous questionable actions.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again this is not an attempt at canceling her, I just thought people should be warned, If you are a poc please be safe on wtc twt.

like i really dont want to be disappointed.
i know i shouldnt hold people on a pedestal but there is a level of respect i have for BTS as a group and individually.
but i also have to respect myself as a black person.
at what point is it okay to keep giving benefits of the doubt?

Understated but deeply dangerous aspects of the proliferation of TERFs on the internet
Associating feminism of any kind with other types of bigotry, halting feminist progress as a whole
By insinuating one minority rights movement requires bigotry, you've assured any bigotry can be tolerated in leftist spaces so long as it is in the name of "rights and safety" of another minority (TERFs didn't create this phenomena by any means, it existed long before them: but you can see in the current leftist landscape how Antisemitism is fine to Protect Palestinians, Transandrophobia AND transmisogyny are both allowed in protection of the other gender, how misogynoir is allowed in Protection of Black men, how Antiblackness AND antiAsianness are both allowed in protection of the other race, and 100 other examples. It's much worse now then it was 10 years ago)
By calling TERFs "radical feminists" you insinuate that feminism as a whole, far beyond just those that are radfem, does not have any transphobia (FALSE)
By associating "radfem" with bigotry, we've made it impossible to discuss any beneficial and positive ideas associated radical feminism without sounding like TERF sympathizers

Russo-Supremacism is more hidden than Nazi-ism.
And, in one way or another, it has also existed just as long as ""Aryan Supremacism.""". Airquoted because Iranians already exist, but 'Aryan' in the context of specifically German idealist white supremacism.
However, Russo-Supremacism is more subtle, because Russo-Supremacism is arguably able to better hide what it is. The Russian Empire never disappeared, it simply buried itself in the rhetoric and semantic arguments of Marxism. But as we saw via the Soviet Union, it never went away. It was still Soviet Russia's acting policy beneath the text and the committees in the pluralistic, ethnosupremacist policies and command structure making lesser structures beholden to them economically and thus, financially and bureaucratically. If you were part of Russia's Soviet Union, you were a target for eventual Russification.
Russification meant your region's schools were forced to start teaching Russian, and then start denying the use of an area's native language and literature and alphabet. You were to adopt the idea you were Russian, not whatever else you were.
It's also far more subtle about how it argues to get you into its web, at first, and it borrows heavily from far leftist socialist talking points. Initially it starts off by, "just being critical" of opposition and rival ideologies, where it doesn't announce its ulterior motives right away. It effectively tries to act as the male friend to a girl and just neg the potential other boyfriends, one by one, until "we both agree" that no other alternatives exist. And reinforcing the idea, "no other boys are good for you. We agree to this. They are all bad. You'd be stupid or a bad person for even agreeing to them."
Before introducing itself as the de-facto alternative, after all competition has been rendered disqualified. By controlling (ideally) what information about them you're allowed to hear, or pre-disqualifying dissent from any rivals as already rebuffing and debunking them as shit talking liars, then just ":^)" 90s smug-facing at you and eyerolling derisively if you cite them as sources in an attempt to mock and humiliate you into compliance.
Russo-Supremacism sees itself as the ultimate opponent of Nazis. It is not. It's simply Slavic flavored white supremacism that sees Russia as the centerpiece of the world, and while Russo-Supremacists are often antisemitic and antiblack, antiasian, etc. effectively just white russian supremacist, they will gladly imply Nazis are that without commenting on them. For surely, if they talk about how their rivals are those things, they're stating they must stand against them, right? No. They just know the people they're trying to impress hate those things.
Nazis seldom try to disguise what they are, and often, do not succeed for very long. Russo-Supremacism is simply better at hiding, better at lying, better at deception and distraction. It uses neutral language that requires the person give them the benefit of the doubt or not question a thing that could verywell use clarification, then capitalizes on that ambiguity to stab someone in the back and then claim there was a linguistic error in their favor.
Your average Russo-Supremacist in the west keeps a low profile, usually. Because if you don't know a predator is there, you can't be on guard against it, or you'll assume it's something else. It's also not a stranger to disguising as a run-of-the-mill Nazi, both to deceive against what it actually is, as well as false flag competition. In fact, convincing stupid, emotional, impressionable bigots to unironically go Nazi is one of the tactics Russo-Supremacists use to sow discord internationally. Because Nazis are whom they view as competition for Their Side, above the board, and it allows them to use them as scapegoats to absorb any heat they might get in effort and time spent bothering with them.
I would not be surprised to learn that more than one neo-Nazi cell (a genuine German-supremacist) in the US has a handler hierarchically tied to Russia, in some way.
Historically, Russia has attempted to bogart and seize control of every other attempt at socialist uprising and separatism, economically or other. So it doesn't matter to them, ultimately, on what basis for socialism that revolution happens. Only that the guerillas domestic to a place ultimately come under their auspices and boots, after the hard, dirty work is done throwing bleach (as a sterilizer metaphor, not a racial one) in the mix to kill the native culture and wipe the slate clean with a would-be socialist state.
To that end, they'll happily work with any kind of loathesome motley crue, because it means they have to do less of the work subverting a country from the outside. It isn't limited to white supremacism, either. They'll help subverters across the wings, they just have to profess a desire for socialism and be willing to cause Problems to their domestic country and people to bolshevize and weaken them.
And that's the Russo-Supremacist modus operandi. Where every legal paper is simply a suggestion that is only operating policy while they pretend to honor it until they no longer need your participation to control you, or while it gives them more to pretend to honor it to keep YOUR behavior controlled. Where they capitalize on your trust specifically to operate outside of your periphery. Where they agree to cooperate, only to disrupt you when convenient or keep your attention away from their efforts to undermine you elsewhere.
Russo-Supremacists are no less dangerous then Nazis, and in fact have the advantage of being a collection of cold blooded liars and thugs. By comparison, Nazis may well just say they're the only ones with the right to exist. Russo-Supremacists won't say it out loud until you're disarmed and surrounded by all avenues they control, before they treat you the way Russia treats the indigenous North Asians.
It's simply a more pervasive and deceptive way of doing white supremacy, and to boot, Russo-Supremacists don't see themselves as "white." They largely don't even see themselves as "European." Generally, they see themselves as different from Europeans as they see themselves different from Asians or Sub-Saharan Africans. Unironically, if you consider European, African, Asian as different destinations on the wheel, Russo-Supremacists see Russian as an entire entry unto themselves.
Which is wrong. They're just Indo-European. Just, a Northeastern variety. One that got slamfuck invaded by the Golden Horde every so often. They aren't an island population somehow cut whole cloth enough to be more distinct than any other kind of European. But to hear them talk, Russian may as well be its own species.
They capitalize on peoples' inexperience with dealing with this specific kind of chauvinism in the west, and escape through the grey area between ignorance of different groups not communicating the meaning with one another. And to make matters worse, while Russo-Supremacism is a specific kind of white supremacism, they know they can get away with it by not labeling their specific flavor of white supremacism, so others that experience it don't care it's specifically Russosupremacism, and just label it common garden variety white supremacism. It helps mask the nature of exactly what sort of supremacism it is, and that's no accident. It does make a difference whether you're dealing with wanna-be Nazis Ubermensches or the supposed Russian Supermen.
It's really only moments like the Ukraine War and the armflailing desperate scrambling when the big scheme has been blown do you see it for what it really is. And we'd all be keen to take away lessons from this, news clippings and proof, because one of the ways in which collective Russo-Supremacists work is through academic and intellectualist avenues, that conspire to minimize, marginalize and sanitize the retellings in history. If only by grabbing a megaphone and filibustering large segments of curriculums by screaming about the singular evil of Nazis, monopolizing the hard points of exactly how much class time there is to talk about anything else but Nazis.
And through what is not said, you don't hear about how Alaska used to be Russian colonial property and parts of Northern California. Which Russia has been demanding returned to them. Crucial context and history goes unspoken without a deeper dive than what you're told, and the stuff left out of that lecture. For whatever reason.
The Nazis may be a disjointed and diasporic belief system, but Russo-Supremacism is alive and well, and knows how to hide and use less coordinated or coherent groups to its own ends. And enjoys relative anonymity.

looking at the tumblr version of the antisemitic "satire" article & of course all our regulars are there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
poor little maswartz who already spoke over us as jewish people when we spoke on how camp camp was incredibly antisemitic for how it trivialised & mocked the jewish suffering during the shoah.
& look, crimson-caracal, it's been so long dumb dumb & your cheerleader donut house is in the notes too. is this your next step from telling a jewish person to stick their head in an oven? now jewish people in the fndm, whether rwde or not because it doesn't fucking matter, "deserve" antisemitic "satire" that trivialised the actions of the nazi, especially ss soldiers, during the shoah? or to be consistently retraumatized by the site of that armband, a hate symbol, being used to mock a fictional character & nevermind the generational trauma it triggers?
would any of the people agreeing with this do so if it held antiblack caricatures of slavery, or antiasian caricatures of ww2 propaganda? mhmm.
you don't get to speak over jewish people or accuse people of being antisemitic, especially when they are jewish, when you are a goyim. you are not jewish, you will never be jewish & our trauma is not there for "jokes" from any of you, end of.

okay so uh. i& wanna fucking sob. i& looked up my& old group i& used to attend to back when i& was in elementary school & uh. i& won't be listing the name just in case for my& safety but like. let's just say that it literally means "approved workmen are not ashamed" & that shit was evangelical. that shit was & still is a fucking xtian nationalist white supremacist child indoctrination cult. it's safe to say im& a cult survivor & i& no longer feel crazy about it. back then i& had no idea what that meant or questioned anything i& was taught; it supports the ideologies of manifest destiny & the doctrine of discovery which are used to justify colonization & not to mention has an extremely racist history of antiblack racism, antinative racism & to a lesser extent antiasian racism, as well as queerphobia and transphobia. its literal motto is to train children to serve jesus & dedicate their entire lives to him & then telling them to evangelize others, to literally become soldiers in god's army. that is evangelization & missionary work. i& remember how they basically indoctrinated us&, how the leaders invited us& to bring a non-xtian friend, a few good times, how i& was shamed for asking questions about what i& was being told, how one of the leaders would tell me& "god is always watching", the amount of homophobia and shaming of any non-xtian religions, telling me& that microchips are being planted into arms & how the end of the world was near, her experiences with demons ( this happened when i& was about 8 or 9 approximately, i& honestly don't quite remember how old i& was but i& was very young which traumatized me& ), the grey outfit uniforms we needed to wear, the tried and true methods of repetition and memorization & having us study bible verses, conformity (gray-shirted uniforms, etc.), the slogans, the peer pressure, the missionary work the leaders were on in vulnerable black and indigenous communities... & what's worse about all this is that they KNEW i& was native. THEY FUCKING KNEW. this is what i& mean when i& talk about conservative white western xtians continuing to attempt to evangelize indigenous children & the group also has many branches all around the world & even reaches into refugee & migrant groups. this is literal fucking textbook colonization & it makes me& sick to my& stomach & im& literally tearing up bc the messaging was so ingrained to me& as a child. now the issue of residential schools or more specifically with my& case the indoctrination of native children seem so much closer to home now, even if i've& never known anyone in the family who was a survivor, but even so, indoctrination & colonization & evangelism in our communities is still RAMPANT, especially for our children.

i’m not into drifteris or whatever their ship is called, in fact it’s kind of a notp of mine bc i just can’t do ships based on people who unapologetically and purposefully annoy each other. but i do think that’s what it is: purposefully annoying each other. in one of the previous seasons, idr which, eris says she’ll stop calling him ‘rat’ when he stops calling her ‘moondust’ and then neither of them ever stopped which is kind of frustrating given that both of them just before this express not wanting to be called ‘rat/moondust.’ and they have this weird begrudging friendship thing. i think in the line you posted, ‘but you keep calling,’ that’s part of their begrudging friendship, purposefully goading each other until the other walks away from the conversation. eris’s goading is more subtle than drifter’s though so i think a lot of people miss her doing the same to him? they do it to each other over and over and over and it’s not just one-sided drifter annoying eris. idk how to explain all this. hope it makes sense. fucking sucks eris nickname for him is an antiasian slur too. its not a common one and rat is a common insult in general so i think its usage as a racial slur just gets buried and therefore unnoticed by bungie. wish it would stop especially since they have both said they want the other to stop and could easily mutually agree to do so like wtf. its been on my mind a lot and drives me nuts bc they still use it in game
okayyyy i see where you're coming from with this but i kind of disagree for a couple reasons.
one, bungie frequently switches writers and it shows in a lot of character inconsistency between expansions/seasons (this happens to a lot of characters, not just drifter and eris). the way drifter and eris' relationship is written is fundamentally different in season of arrivals, the witch queen collector's edition lorebook, and season of the haunted to the present. in arrivals, they don't like each other bc they don't know each other very well and drifter is kind of annoying (love that about him) and it very much comes off as drifter antagonizing eris and eris only antagonizing him back when she can't take it anymore. he is the one instigating a lot of their confrontations and she only gives him a derogatory nickname when he refuses to stop using a nickname for her.
they're only briefly mentioned in the witch queen collector's edition lorebook but it seems like because they worked together in beyond light they've gained a greater understanding and respect for each other. drifter calls her eris and "three eyes" instead of moondust, which to me indicates that eris explained that moondust is a hurtful nickname to her bc it reminds her of a place that is the source of her trauma and he changed nicknames accordingly. he says that eris works "with me" (not for me, suggesting that he respects her as an equal) and says ikora wasn't giving her enough "chances to grow." again, this is a huge step forward in the way they treat each other and a much more interesting dynamic.
but all of a sudden in season of the haunted, they've taken three steps back to nothing but needless antagonism. for us to interpret this as friendly banter, there has to be some kind of indication to the audience that they are actually friends who like each other now, which is simply not there. this very much comes off as bad fanfic writing, where the author simply substitutes "banter" for any kind of actual friendship or relationship growth. or it comes off as the kind of playful rudeness with strangers that is common on the internet (and can be pretty frustrating and hurtful for the target of rudeness). i'm fine with mean jokes between friends, but there has to be a balance between mean jokes and genuine earnest character moments, which we just don't see (except for maybe ONE lore piece). drifter and eris have known each other for years at this point and still interact in exactly the same way, and have the same arguments and the same antagonistic conversations over and over again. from both a writer and audience perspective, this is just lazy and uninteresting.
two, their current writer ships them which makes it hard for me to interpret any of their current interactions without knowing the writer has romantic intentions. i know, i know, "separate the art from the artist," the author's intent doesn't need to be what i take from it, but it changes the way i view and read their interactions even though i dont ship them. i still know that the writer interprets their relationship as romantic and that impacts the way she writes their interactions. when eris calls drifter a derogatory nickname its meant to be romantic bc the writer thinks its romantic for them to have nicknames for each other. when drifter says "you keep calling" its meant to be romantic because the writer thinks its romantic for eris to hate him and yet be unable to stay away from him. and the thing is that the vast majority of people ARE picking up on this romantic coding and ARE reading their interactions as romantic. go to any destiny lore vault video of an interaction between them and all the comments will be "eris is such a tsundere" "'slur' and moondust!!! <3" "theyre so cute" "they need to get a room" etc.
i genuinely dont mean anything rude by this, because i do this to their relationship too, but i think what you describe is your own personal interpretation of why they act the way they do with each other, not the actual text. and again, thats not a bad thing! i do that too, because otherwise their relationship makes no fucking sense and is super boring! but imo, there is no greater meaning behind their interactions or some deep hidden and interesting friendship, it's just bad writing and heterosexuality lmao
EDIT: just read the new lore piece for this week and i actually like how their relationship is portrayed there. it’s “banter” that is respectful. again the problem still stands that there needs to be a balance, and two nice and genuine moments between them in lore books (which only people who really care about read) does not balance out the heap of negative ones that you get at the end of ketchcrash (which basically everyone is going to hear). idk if i’m just unwilling to give their current writer any credit but we do know different people write about the same topic so i can’t help but wonder if this and the eidolon lore (which is also a much more nuanced and friendly portrayal) was written by someone different than the person who writes their ingame dialogue
