• he was mesmerised by you

• he couldn't help but stare at you in class and his heart skipped a beat everytime you smiled or even glanced at him

• he never really build up the courage to talk to you until you were assigned to do a group project together.

• that was how you started speaking to him

• during the group project, he always asked for your opinion or made sure you got the easier tasks while he did the rest himself

• without complaining cause he was whipped for you

• and it didn't take long for you to feel the same way either

• when your friends started noticing how your demeanour changed around him, how you sat upright whenever jo walked in, or how you kept glancing at him in class, they didn't keep quiet about it

• their teasing didn't bother you, it was how they didn't make any efforts to hide it that bothered you

• they would say things like - "look your boyfriend's here", whenever jo walked in and you were sure that at some point he must have heard them.

• harua, Jo's best friend, knew about Jo's feelings for you and he wasn't oblivious to all the teasing that your friends constantly did either.

• he convinced jo to confess saying that he was sure you liked him more than a friend and told jo about all the subtle hints you had been dropping that had gone unnoticed by jo.

• but jo's mind was filled with plenty of 'what ifs'

• what if you think he's weird or creepy? what if you don’t even want to be friends with him after that?

• but after receiving a good deal of assurance from harua, he finally decided to tell you about his crush on you

• and oh, he was so sweet when doing that

• one day he asked if you wanted to hang out after school and confessed in the cat cafè you two always went to.

• and asked for consent before leaning in for a kiss

• "can I kiss you?"

• kissing jo felt so soft. his lips soft, gently pressing against yours, making you feel just right

• and after you pull away, he has the most flustered look on his and his ears have turned crimson.

• jo is somehow even sweeter after you start dating him

• he holds the door open for, helps you to do the homework that you're having trouble with, walks you home and always makes sure you feel okay with everything that's happening between you two.

• he isn't that big when it comes to public displays of affection, but let's his guard down just for you

• let's you fiddle with his fingers whenever you're bored and laughs after comparing your hand sizes

• you let him doodle on your hand, watching as his lips turn into a pout when he's trying to concentrate.

• he'd let you hold his hand if you're going somewhere, never says no whenever you ask him for a kiss, and gives you hugs if you ask for them.

• but also, he isn't the kind to ask for your affection even when he wants it

• so during such situations he just follows you around like a lost puppy and gets a bit clingier than usual until you notice that he just wants a kiss from you

• turns red whenever your friends or harua tease him

• always comes to check up on you in between classes

• after the teacher walks out of class, he just comes towards your desk and talks to you about the lecture and asks if you want anything

• if you're thirsty, he'll bring you water or something to drink or if you're hungry, he'll get you food from the canteen and if you ask him for a kiss, he give you as many as you want until your classmates tell you to get a room

• he loves study dates you. and you love them even more because you get to be with him for a long time, in silence just doing your own work and because you think he looks cute when he's trying to concentrate on something.

• loves going on walks with you after these long study dates

• and he just loves and appreciates you so much and you mean the world to him, you're like his comfort person, someone he can share everything with, be vulnerable in front of and even someone who makes him laugh when he's feeling down. he thinks that he couldn't ask for anything more now that he has you. you're his person.

I am assuming this is about a post I reblogged like six months ago when I went off on forced technological enshitification and the slow erosion of consumer options. But sure, I'll bite.

Why do I "need" my earbuds to have a wire? I dunno, Anon, maybe I:

Don't want to have to worry about recharging my earbuds.

Don't want my earbuds to be even easier to lose.

Don't want my earbuds to need separate accessories that are as easy to lose as the earbuds.

Prefer to have bluetooth turned off on my devices for security and safety reasons.

Like being able to seamlessly plug my earbuds into my computer, my MP3 player, or any other device with a headphone jack.

Don't want to spend 50 dollars on decent wireless earbuds when I can do all the above things with a pair of solid earbuds that cost me like $12 during the Obama administration.

Don't care about what kinds of headphones or earbuds people wear but don't like what it says about our society when other people apparently care what kind of earbuds I'm wearing so much they have send an Anonymous ask to interrogate me about it.

And I guess, more abstractly, because fuck Apple. That's why.

I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?

In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".

Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.

This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.

Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.

The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.

This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.

As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.

hbomberguy’s latest video on plagiarism has made me completely rethink literature and writing. I have never once so much as considered intentionally plagiarizing anyone or anything, but I think there’s something more that has come out of this: the names of the people who created the works Somerton (and others) ripped off.

Plagiarism isn’t only bad because it is lazy and disrespectful, it’s bad because it buries the truth. If you can’t find a source, the conversation is over. Somerton’s sources are fairly easy to find by simply searching his plagiarized lines, but that isn’t true in most cases. Most of the time, the line from statement to source is a lot less clear.

Today, I was writing a report on English Ivy, which is an invasive species here in the US. I wanted to know when it was introduced and I at last found a source claiming it was introduced to the Americas “as early as 1727” on a .net website that seems quite reputable (it has multiple major universities credited in its home page), but there is no citation for where this date came from. I dug deeper and found a pamphlet created by a city government in Virginia that made the same claim, only to discover the first source linked in their bibliography. Another website (a botanical garden’s page) gave the same date with the same source hyperlinked. Of course, I have classes to attend and things to do and probably not enough time to follow the lines back to where this 1727 date came from, but if I had not just watched this video, I wouldn’t have given that date a second thought.

Of course, it doesn’t matter in the long run exactly what year hedera helix was introduced to the Americas, but it makes you wonder how many facts have been so vaguely attributed that it becomes completely impossible to figure out where they originated (and further, whether or not they’re true at all).
