Alright let’s hope I remember everything I wanted to tell you last time.. but shorter. Or I’ll make this a 2 parter.

So first I originally went over some thoughts I had about the reader and the characters. One related to sensory issues. Typically someone with autism can be hypersensitive. But also it’s common for autistics to hyposensitive. So I can imagine scenarios for both cases. Hypersensitive readers would likely carry noise cancelling headphones around with them and I would like to imagine how their spidey-outfit (if they are a spider) would be like. I also struggle with light sensitivity so I’d also imagine tbem wearing shades/ carrying it around. But I’d like to imagine that the other spiders might have spares incase the reader needs it. Hobie wants to take reader to shows and maybe lend some noise canceling headphones that he himself customized.

Now hyposensitive. I’d imagine hobie just dragging to shows without worry, or Miles or Pravitr showing them cultural foods without worrying about needing safe foods. Plus with pravitr he doesn’t need to worry about his volume because even if he yells at the top of his lungs the reader will be fine.

Now I also vaguely remember something about talking. But since I don’t remember the details I’ll just share what I’m thinking now. I’m the same way I’ll be splitting autistic readers with hypo and hyper-sensitivity. I’ll be doing the same with quiet and loud. Talkative and yappy reader will be extroverted.. but that doesn’t mean they’re socially aware. Imagine they’re introducing themselves to Gwen and next thing you know they’re only one talking and Gwen can’t get a word in because the reader just keeps yapping about whatever they’re interested in at the moment. Now none-verbal/semi-verbal reader, being none-verbal doesn’t exactly mean non expressive so I imagine one of two things here. A reader who says nothing but is really expressive, all smiley and giggly. Or masks too much and is really monotone. So expressive reader will probably just sit there grinning at who ever they’re with. I’d like to imagine reader and Gwen maybe bonding in ways that aren’t verbal? Like reader doodling something for her or them just comfortably watching a show or movie they like. Miguel and expressive nonverbal reader would also be an interesting dynamic. Like Miguel knows how they’re feeling, but he can’t tell if they have any questions or need elaborating. But generally I feel like it would work well with him because he knows how they’re feeling but they aren’t exactly too loud for him, it might appear like they’re just quietly enjoying his company.

I think that’s it for now I’ll probably go on with what I have to say in like a part 2 because I have no idea if tumblr has a word limit and I don’t wanna risk losing this.

I feel like a hypersensitive spider-person is super interesting to me because from what I've seen in just spiderman movies in general is after the main character gets bitten by the spider, all their senses are heightened and they find that rlly overwhelming of course. So then add in a hypersensitive reader and just double that, it'd be a lot 😭 (this is all assuming reader was bitten by a spider and didn't become a spider-person through some other means but that's just what i'm focussing on for now). I feel like because of this:

a) reader's spider-suit would absolutely reflect this, there'd be some sort of noise muffling/cancelling mechanic in there somewhere, and for things like light their (for lack of a better name? 😭) 'spider eyes' on their suit might be more dim than other's? (Im imagining someone trying on reader's mask and being like "How do you see through this????")

and b) there'd be a sort of solidarity between reader and alot of the other spider-people, considering relatively similar experiences.

I feel like every third person in the spider-society would have some sort of headphones or sunglasses on them because of this, and because of the solidarity (+ also just being understanding/generous) everyone's happy to help out reader/anyone else who might've accidentally broken their sunglasses, forgotten their headphones, etc!!

For hyposensitivty I definitely see a lot of activities/bondng experiences being less daunting bc they'd need less precaution (they for a hypersensitive reader any of the characters wouldn't mind the extra caution needed and would ofcourse make accomadations)! concerts all the time with Hobie 100%, i imagine reader always being his go-to to ask to hang out at those kinds of events, and it being a really fun bonding expereince for them given the frequency it'd probably happen with just the two of them, depending on how the others are with the loud noises etc.

Miles & Pavitr would be so excited to share everything!! I can just imagine Pavitr excitedly explaining everything about all the different dishes to reader, and being as loud as he wants without haing to worry about overwhelming/scaring them!! I feel like Miles would find it fun to see how much spicy food the two of you can handle, which would probably turn into a competition

I love the idea of gwen & a really talkative extroverted reader!! Like them being at some sort of social event and reader just dragging gwen around from one person to the next, happily introducing everyone to each other even though they met like 5 minutes ago. Gwen i feel is totally non-judgemental when it comes to someone who might talk a lot, i feel like she gets overwhelmed in conversations if she's meant to lead but… might have nothing to really talk about, and she really does just like sitting silently and enjoying her friend(s) happily talking! she'd so be happy to just sit for however many hours and listen to reader infodump!!

Though she'd definitely whisper in reader's ear like "PLEASE stop" (lightheartedly) if they're at some sort of gathering and reader keeps introducing her to people and dragging her into conversations accidentally (She's not mad at reader though, she just absolutely hates meeting new people but is willing to try really hard for reader </3)

Not to turn this whole post gwen-centric but i have so many thoughts about gwen with an extroverted reader it's a dynamic i LOVE! with lots of friendships with like loud people or people who aren't good with social cues, some of their friends might make fun of them or tell them to not be so loud etc etc yk? And i feel like gwen would Never do that, and would not be happy with anyone who does. Either she picks up on the fact that reader is being made fun of and is GLARING at whoever was mean, or she ALSO doesn't pick up on what's 'wrong' with how your acting (bless her heart, i'm a firm believer she's just as bad with social cues as i am) and is just like "what?? what are they doing wrong?" genuinely asking, but the rude person thinks she's firing back at them/mocking them or they get uncomfortable with her questioning and leave you both alone <33

I love the idea of Gwen & Miguel with a reader who doesn't really talk but is really expressive/or just very monotone, both of them to me feel like people who would really like bonding in ways that aren't verbal.

Gwen and reader just sitting in the same room silently, reading together, doing homework sat next to eachother but not talking, watching a movie together, etc, are all ideas i LOVE and definitely something i can see happening.

It also makes me think of things like reader if they're the same age sharing classes with any characters and just doodling on eachothers pages, or during meetings at the spider-society silently handing eachother things, like gifts/drawings/etc.

I feel like with a really quiet reader Miguel wouldn't realise it really but he'd spend more time with them than maybe other people, because they'd just be in the same room as his 'lair' kinda room (Which if that place was given in a name in the movie I can't remember it at all), or just walking around with him, etc, and him and reader would just be quietly existing together.

If reader's also expressive that'd be like a perfect match for him, like he knows they're okay, or if they're not okay then he knows that too and knows to help, and there'd need to be little-to-no words exchanged!

(Though Miguel and a quiet + non-expressive reader would still work, it'd just take him a bit longer for reader to open up a little more with him/for him to try to learn any signs/habits that lets him know how they're doing)

You’re so spot on anon. At the end of the day Ben is the product of good ol’ NCAA Division 1 tennis in college. The matches are literally like football games, loud, rowdy, and intense as hell.

I think people forget that one; Ben committed to play college tennis young, I think a year earlier than he was supposed to graduate high school. Two, the only reason he turned pro was cause he was light years ahead of his peers, so there was no reason for him to stay after his sophomore year. If he had it his way, I think a part of him would still rather play tennis with his friends at school cause he just loves to compete and have fun, and it shows when he plays.

Also, the players on tour love him, apart from the American fraternity who adopted him (Foe, Tommy, Taylor, Sebi) players like Arthur, Carlos, and Jannik have mentioned how much they admire and respect him as well.

The comments wouldn’t irritate me so much if they weren’t so inherently racist. I understand criticism but calling him a thug and saying things like he wasn’t raised correctly is just out of line.

Hey I’m not fully back to reply to your two posts about the autistic reader in atsv I’m still busy with irl stuff but I had a tiny thought about a reader from spider society who has 1) hypersensitivity to stimuli or 2) hyposensitivity to stimuli and how it affects them as a spider.

Imagine hypersensitive spider reader has an equally sensitive spidey sense, like it goes off more strongly/ more often because they’re hypersensitive.

And imagine hyposensitive spider reader has a less sensitive spidey sense, like they barely feel it or it barely appears.

These are just concepts tell me what you thibk -moon

This is making me think about how stimulating the spider-society headquarters must actually be, because there's so many people and lots of technology/devices/etc everywhere. So there's bound to be lots of noise and stimuli.

For a hypersensitive spider reader's spider-sense: I feel like there's a possibility of it going off too much sometimes? especially when theres alot of stimuli around. like they might get a bad feeling or something resembling the feeling they get when their spider-sense goes off but someone has to be like "i think you're just overstimulated actually...".

There's also kinda the other side where it could be something like their spider-sense detecting more/going off more regularly because it 'registers' smaller things that other spider-people's senses would notice/pick up on bc reader is hypersensitive! which could lead to something like mentioned above where someone is like "dw nothing's wrong maybe everything's just a bit too loud/bright/etc for u rn" and then a moment later something bad happens and theyre like ".. ohhh"

as for a hyposensitive spider reader's spider-sense, and correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that Miguel doesn't have a spider-sense? Not sure if this is just a comic book version of him thing or something else but i've heard this alot — and i think it kinda opens a sort of bonding opportunity for him and a hyposensitive spider reader

like in situations where reader's spider-sense doesn't go off/they don't notice it they'd be in the same boat. Though then I'd imagine this means Miguel and reader probably can't go on missions alone together for safety reasons lol

I'm imagining also maybe a hyposensitive reader's first experience with their spider-sense and kinda being thrown off by the like sudden 'jolt' of it? I'm torn between that or them not being able to recognise that it's their 'spider-sense', i feel like both are plausible
