Ann's 2022 Wrapped pt 2(A)
So, here's part 2 with my yearly recap in fandom that I'm guessing you all will like more, the FANFICTION RECOMMENDATIONS!!
Top fics of this year
According the ao3 wrapped, I've managed to read as many as 3.5k fanfics this year, which roughly amounts to 10 fics a day 😱 and a total of 115 MILLION word over the span of a year, which is amazing, considering all the time I've spent working in the hospital (because yes I was an intern), studying AND playing Genshin.
Since I'm tasking myself to rec fics from as many of the fandoms i read fics for (of which there are many), I'll limit myself, and it proved to be as hard I had thought it would be.
My list is in no way even close to an exhaustive fic rec list for the pairing. It has some gems to get you started if you're new to the ship, or some fics to re-read, if you've already read these. If there is a podfic of the fic, I'll include that too! Podfics deserve more love and are a boon, allowing us to listen to our favourite stories while doing other work or playing games! They're one of the top reasons I've not fallen asleep while completing exploration in Genshin Impact lol.
In the m/m fics, i don't write the ship name with the top/bottom fixed in mind as i always headcanon them as versatile. (I know some people like to read fixed dynamics for certain ships, so this is just a fyi for them.)

Pairing: Draco/Hermione aka Dramione from Harry Potter
Fuck JKR and any and all transphobes. Her world of HP was the first serious series that i read and grew up with, so the emotional attachment i have with this series is a lot. So while i don't support her in any way or form, fanfics are fair game for me.
I discovered Dramione when i started reading fanfiction and came across this rather lovely dramione fanfiction called Simply Irresistible that opened my eyes to the pairing. I'd always liked Draco as a character with unrealised potential. And Hermione is and always has been my favourite character from HP. The sweet sweet potential of Dramione combined with the excellent fanfics on ffnet dragged me in and hasn't let me go even now, to be honest. This pairing has so many EXCELLENT fics i simply can't even think of picking my top fics. So I'm just listing the top 6 dramione fics i re-read every year.
1. Rewritten in Time series by ScotlandEvander Rated T
Scared and tired, Draco Malfoy decides to take matters into his own hands. Using a potion, he travels back in time, finds himself in his eleven year old body with all his memories from the past seventeen years. Using this knowledge, he sets out change time. His first mission: befriend Harry Potter. His second: Keep Harry from doing death defying acts. (Turns out harder than Draco had envisioned.)
A Draco centric Harry potter time travel fix-it! It's one of my favourite Harry potter fic to read, and offers the full experience from first to seventh year. Features an OC who is important to the story but not part of the main pairing. It's a fun series that is a slow burn with the dramione as they don't get together till a lot later.
The fix-it version of Harry is hilarious, especially as the years progress. Features lots of friendship moments between the characters and the romance is slow and subtle with hints throughout the series. I try to re-read this whole series atleast once a year.
2. Rewriting Destiny by WaitForTheSnitch Rated General Audiences
They all thought after Voldemort's fall that the world would get better. But they were wrong. The Death Eaters used politics to accomplish what Voldemort never could. And with the dwindling Wizarding population and no one left to fight, there's only one solution: to go back in time to before Voldemort rose to power, and fix what broke the first time around. Time Travel AU
Features Draco and Hermione as time travellers that go back in time to make sure Voldemort never rises to power. I love how the author writes the characters, and their interactions with each other. I'm a goner for good world building and this fic delivers in SPADES.
3. Measure of a Man by inadaze22 Rated E
To truly know someone is to differentiate between who they once were, who they are now, and who they're capable of being. Hermione realises the duality of one man as she rectifies what she knows of the past and begins to understand the pieces of who Draco Malfoy is now: a father, a son, and a man.
It is a post-hogwarts dramione EWE (epilogue what epilogue for those unaware of the term) fic with Hermione being tasked to take care of a rather unique case, and during the process, she learns and grows.
It is NOT a short fic at all, clocking in at almost 600k, and it is SLOW burn, that sometimes is a long low simmering roast. Narcissa in this fic is amazing. I personally wouldn't recommend this to be read in one sitting, and with having some fluff fics on standby for the in between breaks because it is heavy in places.
*Funnily enough all the fics I'm recommending above are LONG as fuck fics clocking in atleast 100k words or more. I really love reading long fics*
4. The Eagle's Nest by HeartOfAspen Rated E
Hermione's eighth year at Hogwarts is already going to be difficult in the aftermath of the war, but is further thrown into upheaval when Headmistress McGonagall orders a re-sorting of all students to promote inter-house unity. But when the Sorting Hat sends Hermione to Ravenclaw with Draco - and without Harry or Ron - how will she cope? [Epilogue? What epilogue?] Prevalent alchemy.
I love eighth year dramione fics! They have so many possibilities, with most commonly having Hermione coming back alone to Hogwarts without Harry or Ron.
In this fic, both Draco and Hermione discover the hidden depths in the other, especially Hermione, coming to know more about Draco as they progress through their eighth year at Hogwarts.
5. The Gloriana Set by ThebeMoon Rated E
The War is won, and Hermione Granger is back at Hogwarts as an “Eighth Year”, feeling reckless and determined to shed her prim bookworm persona. She will do as she pleases, and anyone who doesn’t like it will see the business end of her wand. Also returning is Draco Malfoy, universally hated but determined to restore his family’s name. Hermione���s hopes for a quiet school year are quickly dashed as she contends with mischievous First Years, killer plants, enchanted hair accessories, a totally inappropriate Moaning Myrtle, renegade Death Eaters, a nice vampire, a poorly named study group, a depraved party, and mysterious, threatening blood messages on the castle walls. We have redemption, partial redemption and (sadly or hilariously) no redemption at all. Throw in a snarky, disturbingly attractive Draco with his own secret agenda, and we have a very slow-burn Dramione with a side of who-dun-it.
This is one of my favourite eighth year dramione fics that keeps you engrossed throughout the fic and it also has a in progress podfic that can be found here.
6. Chronos Historia by In_Dreams
Hermione and Draco stumble upon a mysterious portal and find themselves hurtled back through time a thousand years. Forced to team up to find a way home, they quickly realize that much of the history they believed to be fact, wasn't true after all. A founders era, time travel Dramione.
As it says on the tin, with such an interesting take on the founders, i was intrigued. It was also my first founders era fic.
While this next fic isn't strictly a dramione but a Draco/Hermione/Theo fic so i couldn't resist but add this in, it's a personal favourite. It's spicy and a very well written throuple polyamourous fic, with the characters playing nicely off each other and another eighth year fic as well!
7. Sugar and Spice by InLoveWithForever
Contrary to what she claimed, it wasn’t grass and new parchment and spearmint toothpaste she smelled.
A mind-boggling amalgamation of confusion followed by a peripheral realization, and then instantaneous fear made her flush so severely that the room went fuzzy around the edges of her vision as she choked out the lie.
It was old parchment housed in the restricted section, tart green apples, and something spicy—not cinnamon, cloves?—that lingered inside her nostrils. She was woozy, her lids drooping heavily, even as a small part of her brain screamed at how wrong this was. A larger, louder part of her shoved the shame down in favor of baser instincts. Those instincts dampened and dissipated and the shame crowded in the further removed she was from the delicate, unmistakable scent wafting from the cauldron.

Pairing: Merlin/Arthur Pendragon aka Merthur from BBC Merlin
Despite knowing about this show since 2014 (blame this hellsite) i only got the chance to watch this show in 2016 and boy did i fall headlong in love with this show and it's characters. I love that the fandom still remains active to this day, even a decade after this show ended.
And we all cry hysterically every Christmas Eve because that ENDING 😭 or maybe that's just me lol and the i reread that one post canon fic because i want to feel. And that leads to my first rec,

Set after the Merlin Series 5 Finale "Diamond of the Day".
For many long years Merlin waited.
For the other part of his soul, for the other half of his life. He was born to serve Arthur. So that meant he was also born to wait. Even if it took a thousand years. Even if the wait seemed never to end.
Until one day, suddenly, it did.
When Arthur stumbles from the Lake of Avalon 1,500 years after his death, he finds a world unlike the one he knew. Faced with the loss of everyone he loved, and the threat of impending prophecy, Arthur must learn what it means to be not just a king, but the Once and Future King. Merlin does all he can to guide him, even as he struggles to hide his love for his king, and his fear of losing him again.
Story includes sass, banter, horseplay, & True Love
It is part of a lovely series, We Begin Again which i read every year atleast once, it's a classic masterpiece that fulfils my S6 dreams.
2. Evil Overlord, Inc. by Footloose, mushroomtale Rated E
Merlin is a recent graduate with a double doctorate in metaphysics and physics. Arthur is a low-level paper pusher with a desk in the sub-basement of MI5. They live in a world with ridiculous laws and restrictions against anyone who might be supernatural in any way, shape, or design.
Merlin has huge debts looming over this head, a few quid left in his bank account, and no job prospects. Arthur is pushing thirty, in a dead-end job with no chances of promotion to fieldwork agent, and is thoroughly bored with his life.
One ill-advised Craigslist advert, five pushy mates, one nosy all-knowing sister, and a hacked email account later, Merlin and Arthur take the world by storm.
(Or, more precisely, they take over the world.)
It is one of my most favourite Merlin fics coming from the minds of the godly duo of Footloose and mushroomtale with excellent story, GORGEOUS art and bamf!Merlin and bamf!Arthur.
I'm honestly down bad for the art in this fic, especially spectacled Arthur and the art makes me feel things. If you ever find any Merthur fic, with either of the two author's involved in it's creation, it's a must read.
3. Shadow lord and Pirate King by Footloose, mushroomtale Rated E
A fast ship, a good crew, a treasure, a Clan to lead -- that's all Arthur Pendragon has ever wanted. He sits on the Council, he supports his father's kingship, and he keeps an eye on the Imperial Conglomerate when they come too close to Pirate space.
One day the Conglomerate infiltrates the Clans and poisons the King. Arthur must search for a cure to keep his father alive and the Clans from civil war.
An escape route, a sharp knife, a target, the shadows at his command -- that's all Merlin has ever needed. He fulfills his assignments, he uses the Sterling to sustain his once-royal House in their exile, and wages a private war against the Imperial Conglomerate.
When he learns of an elaborate plot to assassinate him, Merlin does the opposite of what's expected. He flees onto a Pirate ship.
There's a saying among the Pirates: that one's fate is written in the stars. Destiny will always set to rights what has been made wrong.
Arthur and Merlin know that they were meant for the other from the moment they meet. They can feel it from across the galaxies separating them. Nothing can stop them from being together or from fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
Another beautiful fic with gorgeous art, featuring space pirate!Arthur, ninja assassin!Merlin, secrets, plots for revolution and so much more packed in a nice long story with sizzling chemistry and GORGEOUS art.
The art for this fic graced my phone as wallpaper for a long while and if shipping wasn't like sky high i would have bought merch for the fic art, I'm serious.
4. Loaded March series by Footloose Rated E
Captain Arthur Pendragon has put together the best team of specialists that the SAS has ever seen, but when his superiors assign Lieutenant Merlin Emrys as his communications officer, Arthur does everything to make him feel unwelcome. Arthur's job is to protect and guide his team through dangerous missions, and he worries that he can't do that when the newest member has a mysterious background and acts suspicious when he thinks no one is looking.
As their assignments become more dangerous, Merlin can't help but to use his magic to keep his team -- even his prat of a Captain -- safe from threats they couldn't possibly understand. But when they are sent on a undercover operation against a group of zealots intent on a magical apocalypse, Merlin needs to confront his fear of discovery and derision, and to finally trust his team with his secret.
Arthur and Merlin rely on each other for more than the sake of their mission. The entire world is at stake. When they learn -- from dragons, no less -- that they are prophesied to restore the balance of magic to the world, they fight on regardless of the outcome, because duty, honour and loyalty is a far stronger driving force than destiny.
A completed series featuring Arthur, Merlin and the other knights as part of an elite SAS unit with the varying adventures they face that clocks in at almost 1.3 million words, it's a good, LONG read that'll absorb you thoroughly if you aren't careful and you'll emerge as a changed person.

Actually do yourself a favor and go to both of these author's ao3 pages and read ALL of their Merlin fic and also fics they've written for other fandoms if they interest you, because otherwise I'll just keep on listing their fics throughout lmao.
5. Gadarene by unpossible Rated E
“You’re the Prince?” Merlin says, eyeing him. He hesitates, then adds, defiant, “The Mad Prince of Camelot.”
Arthur doesn’t move. There’s quiet for a long time, then he says it. “I am.”
“You don’t seem mad,” he says.
The smile wells up from somewhere deep, and very sad. “Well, Merlin,” he says, “give me time.”
This is also a very unique Merlin fic, that deals with reluctant slave master Arthur and slave Merlin working together to take down the villian, with lots of intrigue, lot of sexy times and a little coup, for added flavour.
Also has a lovely podfic !

Pairing: Peter Parker/Johnny Storm aka Spideytorch from The Amazing Spiderman and The Fantastic Four comics
I've read the Spiderman comics as a teen and was introduced to the fantastic four via those. Peter's friendship with Johnny, especially their bantering is top class. Definitely see the spideytorch queen @traincat blog with their posts on Spiderman, fantastic four and Spideytorch, with this and this (being posts on why Spideytorch? and the second one has a brief comic book timeline of Spideytorch. I personally prefer comic book Peter Parker, fyi but i don't hate mcu!Peter. Also traincat has written many of the gems in this pairing so do check out their ao3 as well!!
1. Tales From The Back Pages by Traincat Rated T
Peter Parker was born with his words. Johnny Storm's been sure his will be said sarcastically since he was a child. Everything else more or less happens according to plan.
A first words soulmate AU.
This is a pretty good fic for those new to Spideytorch in general and is a rather lovely fic. It is basically Marvel 616 Spiderman and the Human Torch but with soulmates. I personally have read it soo many times i can recite parts of this fic from memory.
2. Work Song by Traincat Rated E
Peter Parker has his company, more money than he knows what to do with, and the echoes of a ghost in his head. Johnny Storm's lost his family, his home, and is clinging to the remnants of his old life.
"I’m here with you. That’s not nothing, right?”
“No,” Peter agreed. It definitely felt like something, all the way up here with Johnny so close they were almost touching.
Peter looked at him, at the full lips set in a slight frown, the sharp curve of his jaw, the way his hair fell across his forehead. He fit all the dazzling lights around them, warm like sunshine even in the middle of the night.
“Beautiful,” Peter said before he could stop himself.
This fic requires you to be a bit more familiar with the comic timeline, but in essence, (comic book spoilers ahead) in one of the comic book runs of Spiderman, there's a time when all of the fantastic four except Johnny Storm have vanished and Peter buys up the Baxter building (the F4's home) and he's pretty rich in this because a while before this he had discovered that doctor octavius had taken over Peter's actions via *science ish mind control' with him making a major company and everything.
It kinda has glucose guardian Peter vibes as well and some references to non con as well (not between the main characters). It is one of my favourite fics by Traincat and honestly if you're even somewhat familiar with the spideytorch comic book timeline, i can't rec this fic enough!
3. Always Glad You Came by aloneintherain Rated T
Spider-Man is a relatively new, controversial vigilante, and Johnny has a crush the size of the Empire Building. The Four - operating under the assumption that Spidey is an adult - do not approve.
“I just happen to think Spider-Man's cool,” Johnny says, matter-of-factly. “A hero can think another hero is cool without making it weird. I admire his aloofness. And his badass-ness.”
“His aloofness,” Ben repeats, chuckling into his mug of beer. It’s roughly the size of Johnny’s head. “Yeah, sure, I bet that’s all your admire, right?"
While i usually prefer comic book Spidey, this one is mcu Spideytorch, with teen!Peter and teen!Johnny that is one of my favourite mcu Peter fics.
4. Spideytorch series by mizzy
A series of unrelated fics about my OTP, Peter Parker/Johnny Storm.
This series has some of my favourite Spideytorch fics not written by Traincat and of all of the fics in the series, my personal favourite has to be without a hitch.
This series is based on comic book canon, rather than mcu so do keep that in mind! It's a must read collection of Spideytorch fics!!
5. Better in Picture by weekend_conspiracy_theorist Rated Teen and Up
In which Peter Parker has no interest in sleeping with Matt Murdock, no matter what anyone seems to think.
Despite what it seems, it really is a Spideytorch fic! It has representation of one of the most underrated friendships of Peter and that is his friendship with Matt Murdock aka Daredevil.

Pairing: Stiles Stilinski/Derek Hale aka Sterek from Teen Wolf
I've read fics for this pairing for a year of two before even actually watching the show a year or so back lol. Reading up on the history of the pairing, thankfully i wasn't the only one who saw this ship as possible in the show (before the makers betrayed us fans). But yeah, I've always been down for bad boys in leather jackets with a heart of gold and Derek was a perfect fit. Plus Stiles stole my heart in the first episode. Scott, while a fine character, was written with a bit too much of the protagonist's halo effect for my tastes, if that makes sense, but that's just my opinion.
1. Play It Again by metisket Rated T
In which Stiles goes along with one of Derek’s plans and ends up in an alternate universe as a result. He should’ve known better. He did know better, actually, and that means he has no one to blame but himself.
“Laura wants to lure the kid in with food and kindness and make a pet of him, like a feral cat. Derek wants to have him arrested for stalking. They’re at an impasse. (And the rest of the family is staying emphatically out of it in a way that suggests bets have been placed.)”
It's a time and dimension travel fix-it fic, featuring soft!Derek, kick-ass!laura and lot of realisations on Stiles' part.

2. Gravity's Got Nothing on You by zosofi Rated E
“Three weeks,” Derek says.
“Still don’t want to,” Stiles says.
“I’ll pay you,” Derek says, and that… that has Stiles interested. Alf’s Antique’s may be a great job, but it’s not a high-paying job, and half of Stiles’s tuition is coming from financial aid, so…
“How much,” Stiles asks, “are we talking here? Because I know your family, dude. And it’ll be kind of awkward after.“
“My family thinks you’re some sort of fucking gift to the world,” Derek seethes, like he’s jealous, “they’ll probably be pissed at me when we break it off, so don’t worry about that. Five hundred bucks.”
“A thousand,” Stiles says, because screw ethics. Also, the Hale family is loaded. Derek can deal.
Or, the one where the Hale fire never happened, Laura is a nosy sister, Derek is desperate, and Stiles is the only one that can help. It's a fake dating au that is a comfort read of mine.

3. Stop Crossing Oceans by greenleaf Rated M
“There are no absolutes, Scott! No hard rights or hard wrongs! The world doesn’t fucking work that way and we can’t afford to think like that, because people are going to die! We signed up for that the moment we got involved with all this!”
“We? We?” Scott hisses. “Don’t you think you? Don’t forget that you’re the one who dragged us into that forest the night it all started, Stiles. So if it’s anyone’s fault, it’s yours.”
Something inside Stiles cracks, so strong and so deep that he practically hears it.
A look into a what-if Stiles and Scott's ideological differences are so much that it fractures the friendship between Stiles and Scott and Stiles chooses Derek over Scott.
4. Stuck in Reverse by crazyassmurdererwall (smartalli) Rated E
Look, Derek is the worst. Everyone knows that. Their fearless leader is a total and complete failwolf.
Which means the rest of them? Are kind of the worst too. They’re a ramshackle, slap dashed, sorry excuse for a pack that’s about a half second away from getting one of them killed. And this is a problem, because Stiles would really like to survive high school. Thanks.
Still, nobody deserves what Derek has gone through. Nobody.
And it’s about time somebody told him that.
Stiles decides enough is enough and somewhat ought to appreciate Derek and make sure someone cares for him, and in the process, makes friends with Jackson and unites the pack into a much more cohesive team.
5. Will to Follow Through by owlpostagain Rated E
“It depends entirely on how you look at it, I guess,” Stiles shrugs. “On the one hand, instant healing and the apparently inherited ability to pull off leather at all times. On the other, serious attitude problems and a suspicious disappearance of eyebrows.”
“Even Derek’s?” Danny snorts, “that’s a lot of eyebrow to lose.”
“I know,” Stiles agrees. “You should see, it’s so weird. Every time I want to ask him where they go, except he’d totally eat my face off.”
“There are worse ways to die.”
Deals with the in-transition state of Stiles' crush on Lydia to his crush on Derek, featuring a solid friendship trio of Stiles, Lydia and Danny.

Pairing: BTS featuring Namjoon centric fics only
I'll admit that I haven't read much of new BTS fics since 2020, so this might be a bit dated, but all of these are solid gold. There'll be only 1 per Namjoon ship and 1 OT7 fic, which was a MASSIVE STRUGGLE I tell you, because there are SO MANY good ones, except for the OT7 fic, that one I knew instantly.
1. Kim Namjoon|RM/Kim Seokjin|Jin aka Namjin :
I cheated. I chose 2 by the same author metastacia BECAUSE I COULDN'T CHOOSE, both of these are SO SO GOOD. Both have excellent plot, world-building, pacing and will suck you in till you finish it all. I have followed both fics from their first chapter to their last and let me tell you each chapter update was an EVENT on my tl, with discussions, theories, everything. So many of us laughed and cried to these chapters and i personally remember the eager anticipation of reading it!
The Shaman and The Exorcist Rated M
Seokjin doesn't believe in ghosts. Which would cause a huge uproar if everyone knew since he's kind of a big deal at his university; he's a shaman who protects people from evil spirits. He doesn't remember where he got the idea to do this from, all he knows is that superstitious people pay good money.
Namjoon does believe in ghosts. Better yet, he can see them and he can expel them. But there's a certain phoney shaman at his university who's stealing all his clients in his exorcism business, and he's not happy about it because haunted people pay good money.
So, what do they do? Figure out whose closet is holding all the skeletons, of course.
KAIROTIC Rated M
The Grim Reaper, they called him. He was the weird kid in school who knew exactly when someone’s mother was about to die. They didn’t believe him when he’d said it, and they didn’t believe him when he said he wasn’t a psychic, and they didn’t believe him when he said he didn’t cause her death.
The Grim Reaper, they still sometimes call him. Legendary trial lawyer who became known for weeding out the bad guy no one else suspected and putting them in prison. It was almost like he had a sixth sense for it. Like no one was safe from him. Like the black cloud of death still follows him around and no matter how much he tries to shake it off, it doesn’t let go.
Seokjin wonders at what point death had stopped following him around, and at what point he’d started to become death itself.
in which Seokjin can see everyone's lifespan floating above their heads, numbers steadily counting down to their deaths. the numbers never change, or so he thought.
2. Kim Namjoon|RM/ Min Yoongi|Suga aka Namgi:

namjoon and yoongi share a sweater (and also some feelings)
This fic is like a warm hug when you're feeling meh or like sitting by the fireplace wrapped in your cozy blanket with a cup of hot cocoa on a winter night.

Kim Namjoon is in love, and Jung Hoseok is always dating someone else. This is perfectly fine, even preferable, because the universe likes to tell jokes and Namjoon knows it's best just to laugh along. He's certainly got nothing to complain about when it comes to the building blocks of his life, and dating is a lot of effort. Too much effort, really. So it's obviously fine.
But the universe's latest attempt at a comedy sketch, where Hoseok moves in with him, bringing the sun and a lot of tiny shorts, might actually make him insane.
We all need a little slow burn lovely namseok in our lives.

This is my favourite Taejoon fic EVER, with soft and sexy times in equal quantities.

Jimin forces Jungkook to make a Tinder, and there's no way that profile of Kim Namjoon is real.
Self indulgent, Namkook fluff with pining makes for a lovely read.
7. Kim Namjoon/Everyone aka OT7
What I Did On My Summer Vacation, by Kim Namjoon, Age 18 ½ by Runchrandom(infraredphaeton)
On his gap year, Kim Namjoon accidentally joins a gang, takes over that gang, becomes the leader of the South Korean Underworld, publishes his first mix tape and gets six criminal boyfriends. It's a busy twelve months.

"You're really cool, man! I've been listening to you for ages!" the guy practically bounces over the body, slinging an arm around Namjoon's shoulders. "You got a crew?"
Namjoon shakes his head slowly.
"Well, we can fix that."
My absolute favourite BTS fic of ALL time, that I re-read ATLEAST once a year. This author has written many excellent Namjoon centric fics, so rest assured you're in for a treat.
Features smart as hell Namjoon who somehow finds himself as the head of the Seoul underground and six boyfriends, and it all started with sucker punching someone in the face. Interested? Read on!
Pairing: Uchiha Sasuke/Uzumaki Naruto aka Sasunaru from Naruto

A classic pairing, which for many, as well as me, was their first anime m/m ship, if not their m/m ship ever. There's something hilarious that kishimoto, who wrote the women in Naruto so inconsistently and despite never wanting to, created a friendship that was so deep and with such homoerotic undertones, it surpasses the bond that the 'canon' heterosexual pairings have 😂
1. Kizuna Hikari by YoungAndOverIntelligent Rated M
The only reason Sasuke keeps coming back to Konoha is because of that mattress. The bed is his only respite. And perhaps the dumbass who owns said bed might be worth it, too.
Or, another canon divergence 699 that showers Sasuke with too much (deserved) love and attention that we all need for these unprecedented times.
Title means "Bonded Light". It'll make sense when you're about 100K in.
Remember the trope, "there was only one bed" ? This author took the trope and fit in 204k words of healing and feelings and character growth along with it that just moves you.
Sequel has POVs from the other characters as this one is from Sasuke's POV.
2. backslide by blackkat Rated M
Naruto’s friends are gone, his lover is dying, Konoha is destroyed, and Madara’s second return has pushed the entire world to the brink. Hunted and harried, Naruto is sent back in time to upend Madara’s plan before it even starts, and sets about changing everything. Butterfly effect nothing: the world is at stake, and Naruto is hardly about to let it fall to ruin once more. Not while he’s still breathing.
It's a time-travel fix it fic that has a not exactly unique concept, but the author portrays the characters so vividly they will stick in your mind forever.
It also has a Podfic by the awesome Opalsong (who is a prolific podficcer, check them out as well!) that is one of my favourite podfics to listen to, especially while traveling.
3. An Invincible Summer by ShanaStoryteller Rated T
When Naruto is five, he's gutted by a drunken civilian and presumed dead.
Six months later a girl with ash pale hair and dark blue eyes enters the Academy.
As you can see by now, I love my canon fix-its and this is that as well, but involving the Sexy no jutsu in a way I didn't imagine before reading this fic.
Naruto (or as she's known in this fic, Natsu Nami) is a bamf whose bonds with genin team and kakashi are a highlight of this fic.
Also has a Podfic
4. Forces of Gravity by Anxiety_Pickle Not Rated
The Rinnegan is hardly well understood; at the end of the world, Sasuke Uchiha takes a gamble.
In one world, Madara Uchiha wins. Sasuke escapes by the skin of his teeth and flees to the nearest dimension. Unfortunately, he has quite a few unintended passengers. Stranded five years in the past with the Akatsuki and the all too real threat of global extinction at his back, he decides that he'll be the one to stop the apocalypse - even if that means taking on the Akatsuki himself.
A time travel-dimension travel-canon divergence Uchiha Sasuke centric fix-it fic that has pretty good world-building. My favourite part of this fic are Sasuke's hawk summons! They're so interesting and lovely to read.
5. Corporate Secrets by Kizukatana Rated E
Everyone knew that Uzumaki Naruto was a businessman you didn't mess with. He was charismatic and able to win deals that left others wondering how they'd been talked into what they'd just signed. He was held up as an example of everything an alpha should be: strong, charismatic, and commanding. What they could never have expected was that Naruto was not, in fact, an alpha. In a society run by alphas, it was a secret that he kept closely guarded. As long as he never encountered his True Mate, he could keep his identity concealed behind scent blockers and suppressants. And with billions of people in the world, he didn't really have to worry about finding his True Mate. Right? Even if he did, Naruto was sure he would just kick the guy's ass and move on. He'd never met an alpha he was attracted to, or one that could match him. He wasn't worried at all.
Requires an AO3 account to access, but TOTALLY worth it.
One of my favourite A/B/O fics ever that has a pretty good world-building with respect to the trope and the characterization.
But then again, it is by KizuKatana, who along with blackkat (author of fic 2 in the Sasunaru rec list) are some of the most prolific authors in the Sasunaru fic-dom, who have written awesome as hell fics, so do check out their profiles!
Pairing: James Bond/Q aka 00Q from the Craig James Bond movies

I love me some hardened spy and some bespectacled boffin being a pair of bamfs together. I'm still not clear why exactly why I started shipping this, oh wait, i know, that ENTIRE scene in Q's office where he calmly takes that gun from James.

More than anything, Mike Taylor wanted to be ordinary. Being a genius, he learned early in life, meant people expected too much. A career at the MI6 Help Desk seemed the perfect way to guarantee a lifetime of obscurity, until he got a very unusual tech support call.

2. Important Dates by AtoTheBean Rated E
After a brief attempt at retirement, James is back at MI6 and working hard to rebuild working relationships with his colleagues and friends. And he's making great strides.
Only Q continues to hold him at arm's length, maintaining a stubborn professionalism in their interactions that James remains unable to pierce.
But James doesn't want Q at arm's length, and so he takes a risk. But even a spy's instincts can run amok, and now James wonders just how long he'll be reaping what he's sown, and how many holidays it will take to win Q over.
A post Spectre fic, with Bond seeking to make amends with Q, but only to be met with resistance. A fic set in important holidays in Bond and Q's life, has groveling bond, something i enjoy reading any time.
3. Quriosity by dr_girlfriend Rated E
Bond finds himself increasingly curious about his enigmatic Quartermaster.
Excerpt:
"Your prior hotel is no longer secure, I will direct you to a new location. Your luggage has already been transferred. A field agent and medic from the Diréction Générale de la Sécurité d'État will be waiting at the side entrance. I have cleared them both personally." In contrast to his crisp dry English, Q's pronunciation of the French words was fluid and flawless, the throaty tone of the fricatives sending a surprising jolt of awareness straight to Bond's cock — all the more remarkable given his degree of blood loss.
"You're wasted on Q-branch, you have the voice for a phone-sex call-in line." The words slipped out of Bond's mouth without forethought, although he had plenty of time to think in the sudden pause that came afterward and stretched on for endless moments. Bond hadn't realized until now how Q was always there, with an immediate reply. In all their banter Q had never before been at a loss for words. Ever.
4. Redamancy by opalescentgold Rated M
If you write something on your skin, then it will show up on your soulmate's skin as well.
James doesn't quite fall in love over physics discussions and cheeky book quotes scrawled over his heart, coding and riddles inked onto his skin, but he comes close. He does.
And then he actually meets Q.
This is a soulmate AU with Holmes!Q that starts pre-Spectre and is a spectre fix-it that fits so many feelings in it, it's no wonder it's so long.
5. Red Queen to Overwatch by BootsnBlossoms, Kryptaria Rated M
After returning from the dead, James Bond moves into a new secure flat, only to find that his new neighbour is either: a scruffy teenager, a brilliant computer geek, a mad scientist, or the sexiest genius he's ever met. Two of these things turn out to be true.
Well, three, once the Red Queen gets involved.
Another beautiful, beautiful fic featuring Holmes!Q, that was one of my first 00Q fics and still remain in my top fics for this pairing.

Hey there lovelies-- I've had 3 hrs sleep today so the words on the screen are starting to run together. I'm still getting love notes from yesterdays request, and thank you so much, I promise i'm catching up to the messages, you all are the best crew someone could ask for. Thank you for spreading some joy in this crazy ass world.
Tonight I would like to send a reminder that we have not lost OFMD, as so many of said, we still have 2 wonderful seasons, and those boyfriends are currently boinking their way into oblivion in their inn, making their poor customers insane.
But beyond that... had a discussion today with multiple dear friends / crewmates that made me feel a lot better about the whole thing too. I know it's months in the gravy basket now, but this is not the end for OFMD. Chaos Dad told us it was over, but in all honesty it still doesn't feel over. WBD is driving itself into the ground, Dad's been off at the WBD lot, it feels like things are moving in a better direction again.
It may not be today, or tomorrow, or even the next few months, or a year or so, but I think we still have a chance to see the ending of our story.
And we've all said it before, but it bears repeating, even if it never happens, we get to make it happen. Stede and Ed live on in all our crazy ranges of work out there, that so many of you have been just CRANKING out lately, I've been astonished at how much new work I've seen from folks in the the fandom I know, and new folks I haven't met! It's so inspiring to see OFMD affect people so much that they felt they could put little pieces of themselves out into the world through art of all mediums.
I hope I'm making sense at this point.. if not, sorry about that! But know-- there's always hope. There's always S1 and S2, and the infinite universes we get to dream up from those two.

Z0ur's 2023 Recap
Here goes with a personal first. To start, 2023 for me was transformative. I felt more confident, more focused, and doing the things i love has felt even easier. Less emphasis on working hard was the key. I'm very proud of this change. I'm also proud of my accomplishments.
In no specific order, i've given my blog a structured queue, i've started up a Neocities, and have finally picked up projects that have sat dormant for years. Alzier is seeing character modeling and soundtrack work being done, and Burrowed Alive has a main cast and a plot synopsis ready. I'm sorry i promised a preview and then never got around to it, so i'll simply release it when the time's right.
With all that out of the way, here's other cool things i did:
In music
This year (especially in comparison with 2022) i got serious about sharing my favorite tunes, some obscure and some more well-known.
In particular were some ear-catching artist discoveries: The Twilights, Coral City, Russ Freeman. I dusted off acts like The Return, Janis Ian, Paolo Conte and Jimmy Wayne in hopes that listeners could make their own discoveries.
Plenty of tunes were subject to hours and hours of replays-Nocturne, Juicy, and City Magic, for example, bring an irresistible feel-good vibe to any occasion. I also played the hell out of Charmless Man, In E, Concrete Blonde's Little Wing, Time Goes On and much much more. Seriously, it's an enormous list. Check out #hand-picked music for everything!
In film
Finding time to watch a movie can be a challenge, especially when you're busy. That challenge doubles when you're also planning around movie night with loved ones. It doesn't always work out.
However, movies were watched, from classics to a select few new releases. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, despite being released in 2022, took 'til this year to get around to and is easily among my top 5 flicks. Facing off with a dull and uninspired Five Nights movie, Willy's Wonderland was put to the test, which it passed with flying colors. And in the tradition of watching horror around Halloweentime, i chose the Final Destination series, somewhat to combat my own phobia of death. I'd seen the first one, but i have yet to finish the 2nd. I also got started on Venom and Transformers.
Lastly, i gave Raggedy Ann & Andy a watch, and while i didn't hate it i ultimately have a couple bones to pick with it. I'll do a full review later.
In streaming
Less time spent dealing with technical issues is always a plus. It's allowed me to bring a new segment, live drawing, into the mix. #z0ur artz is where you can find not only finished pieces, but also a 3-minute timelapse of the drawing process! I'm also happy with the new chatbox, and plan to experiment with different graphics in the future.
In Syphon Filter, i've just defeated the first boss, Anton Girduex. Let me tell you, it wasn't easy. I fear for the next boss fight already. In Tarzan, my biggest problems are falling out of a tree and missing out on collectibles. Corruptions have been steadily improving, and the results are no longer simply "pixel puke" and crashes. I've been diving into lots of corruption tutorials, so expect to see it pay off in the coming year. We'll also be starting some new playthroughs!

And, of course, i've met some incredible creators like @lucianinsanity, @razialart, @lace-arts, and more this year! Please, do check them out. I ultimately learn from and find inspiration in everything in the #hand-picked art tag.

Tues 8 June ‘21
Harry recorded a message that was played at the Stoneman Douglas High School graduation; SD is the school in Parkland Florida that in 2018 became the site of the deadliest school shooting in US history. Harry has consistently been a vocal supporter of the student activism to curb gun violence that followed the shooting (it was when he added the Stop Gun Violence stickers to his guitar and he spoke about it before when playing near there on HSLOT, for example, as well as signing on to things and donating money and talking about the bravery of the young women leading the effort in particular). “You are an incredibly strong group of people and I have no doubt that you’ll all do incredible things whatever you chose to do in the future, so good luck, love each other and be nice to each other and I hope at some point I’ll get to see you guys,” he said in the video.
A blurry blob in a blue hoodie in London last night was said to be him, out for a stroll, Don’t Worry Darling was announced to be set for release next year, and some fans literally chased Harry and Olivia down the street while filming them against their wishes (recently, not today, seems like she might be back in the US with Jason now that his filming is wrapped) and then people tried to blame their behavior on... larries?? UM did larries possess them and force them to literally chase a person asking to be left alone I DON’T BELIEVE SO, I am BEGGING you guys to quit listening to anything anyone on twitter says. My Policeman is filming in Hitchin, at a location reported by local media to be “shrouded in mystery”, but I’m pretty sure the hordes gathered to peep at filming have killed any aura of mystery at this point. They are working on location at a pool in Butts Close (YEAH I KNOW) and are apparently besieged with fans, some of whom managed to get more pictures of a blurry blob said to be Harry- this time in tiny yellow short shorts (2021/1950 version)!
Niall and Anne Marie’s Tonight Show performance aired! Anne Marie’s black and white cheetah print lined three piece outfit is amazing, like Niall is pushing the envelope a little with shapes and fits but her look takes center stage I’m afraid; anyway also they sound great and are cute, yes yes.
Liam has been in his discord lots, commenting on things and polling people. Current polls, yes no or wtf about NFTs, which landslide result (wtf) got him to say yeah okay I’ll make an explainer, and should we rename my fandom which resulted in a chat for people to make suggestions. About front runner Paynedora’s Box (Liam’s own amazing suggestion) he said “it came to me as I thought it meant every type of fan is a possibility, never know what you’re going to encounter.” Yes plus Pandora’s Box was full of demons! Apt indeed though Liam’s fans are sweeter than some, it’s true. He gives a little love to Champaynes too, which is good though given our boy’s struggle with alcohol addiction I’ll stick with my vote for the first one. He posted from an “impromptu night photoshoot” (about which his hair guy said “bringing the grit back, prepping for a very exciting launch…”), followed NFT co-creator Gabe Damast who later posted some behind the scenes talk about the making of Lonely Bug (with glimpses!) and the page for animated film Ron’s Gone Wrong, which he commented about (“this looks amazing!”), liked a Lonely Bug fanart of the bug with his face on it, and signed on to a UNICEF letter, along with 28 other celebs, asking the G7 (rich countries) to donate vaccines for distribution where most needed. And he was seen today at a Top Golf! An employee posted a distanced pic with him. Also btw those necklaces he’s been wearing all the time lately are apparently diamonds and are £50k each, but he wasn’t wearing them for golf time at least.
And additional bits from Liam’s interview from yesterday because it’s REALLY LONG, one recap wasn’t enough-- Liam said he definitely has not yet figured out what makes him happy (which makes me sad although also, normalize not having it all figured out in your 20s I don’t think that’s unusual) and talked about the difficulty of figuring out what to do when you’ve already accomplished your life goal so young, he mentioned the people speaking out against the X Factor and that he thinks there needs to be a care system for people in those shows, and said “find you a man who looks at you like Russell Brand looks at you when he’s listening to your stories, he looks into your soul,” and when host Steve talks about meditating naked says “now that’s what I want to think about!” (they’d been talking about what to focus your thoughts on for meditation). He said he wants to experiment with the way he does promo, specifically to wait to see if a song is doing well before doing press tours that might not have any point and that he thinks the industry is in a place where they need to throw out the old molds, and he talked about the industry wasting money on things they don’t need to do for promo. “You have your fanbase, grow it organically, properly,” he said, which is so much more true for any one of the 1D boys than anyone else, for sure, and it makes sense he’d say this stuff not just for the obvious reasons- we’ve all seen how badly labels have fallen short with post 1D solo stuff- but also because the 1D fandom always has been in a position out at the forefront of new ways that fan engagement work (as Liam points out, he talked about the perfect storm of the rise of twitter trends and of 1D) and modeling what will be next for other artists, so trying to fit it into old boxes doesn’t make sense, and it’s still true. Other solo artists simply DON’T HAVE the same kind of fandom these five do, and trying to market them the same way you would any random artist is just throwing away money and engagement! So it is exciting to see these guys take the lead on their own stuff and experiment with new ways of doing things, and Liam is smashing it at that.

The New Venom is interesting
I am not a fan of Venom. I am one of those old school Spider-Man fans that still to this day think that Venom should have stayed a villain and he is better off as a villain. Venom fans disagree and that’s okay. I did still read the character and took his stories with a grain of salt as most tried to exonerate Eddie in ways that didn’t sit well with me as a Spider-Man fan like trying to retcon the Death of Jean DeWolfe to make Eddie more sympathetic when in actuality they could have just made the symbiote more likable.
But again, my dislike with Venom was benign at best as I did take a liking to Venom adjacent characters like Andi Benton while I was never a fan of making Flash Agent Venom either. And then Cates took the pen and fucked everything up to the point that when I look at the Venom fandom, I can’t help but see a fandom trying their best to act like the past three years didn’t happened. At least they got their very gay movies right?
So I stumbled upon the new series that is following up where that dumpster fire of a comic run penned by Cates left off and I see a new writer at the helm. Al Ewing. That’s a name I respect. So I decide to give in to my morbid curiosity and pick up the book.
Oh hai, Dylan.
Dylan Brock, the son of Eddie Brock and the symbiote via forcefully impregnating of Anne Brock, is the new Venom.
You have so many questions right now, don’t you?
A short recap for those whom were sane enough to not subject themselves to Cates’ Venom, the symbiotes were tools of war of a space god called Knull. After he tried to conquer Earth and failed, Eddie became the new Symbiote Jesus and is basically Nova/Green Lantern. His son who was born because the symbiote impregnated Anne after it bonded with her. No it wasn’t consensual. Yes, Cates denies this by his writing only supports this logical conclusion. Yes it is bad. Dylan is essentially symbiote whisperer or a metaphor for Jesus…look who gives a shit. New writer, who dis is in full effect now.
So Ewing is now focusing on how troubled Dylan is now that Eddie is the Nova Corps.
I think Dylan is like 13 or 14 now after Cates had a time skip that no writer acknowledged for King In Black. So Dylan was the only character effected by the time skip. Dylan was permitted by his father to be the new Venom while Eddie is the King in Black.
Yes, there is a Miles Morales parallel and yes, Dylan is being propped up to be what Eddie was to Peter. These two are not going to be friends as much as a certain fandom wants Miles to be Dylan’s babysitter.
Dylan feels abandoned by his dad. And it’s weird because that feeling has merit. Eddie is in space being a space god while Dylan is on Earth being left with us mere mortals.
So we have a vulnerable teen with abandonment issues?
This series needs time to actually decide just what is the point of all of this. What’s the end goal? Because I have read three issues and I can’t decide just what the fuck is going on yet.

Amphibia Season 3 Reviews: The New Normal: Lighting Garfield on Fire and Fighting Preadator But It’s No Big Deal
And we’re back! Hello all you happy people! For those just joining me i’m Jake, and I review cartoons and comics via detailed recaps chock fulla anaylsis.
I’ve been covering Amphibia episode by episode since Season 2 (Season 1 is a stretch goal on my patreon only 1 dollar to join for exclusive reviews and to hit said stretch goal, wink wink). And with how the show keeps getting better and better, it’s oh so good to be back to my froggy friends after the through wham episode that was True Colors and the through debacle that was Disney’s delay of the episode.
So since i’ts been a few months and some stuff has happpend show wise, I’m gonna take a moment ot fill the gaps before we dive in headfirst into this fresh new season.
First off said delay debacle: At the time I published my True Colors review no one had any idea WHY they delayed the episode or why it was such a mess.
Now we do know why: Disney got gunshy over the child gutting, and thus wasn’t sure how to handle it, so they delayed the episode to figure that out. It’s.. fair to a point.
To explain: Disney wanting to be careful when having such a rather brutal image on a children’s show is fair, and the solution they came up with, putting a content warning before it, was the best way to handle it. However waiting until the episode was FINISHED, ready to be aired and already had an airdate set and yanking said airdate was NOT fair and I will never let them live that down. They had PLENTY of time in the lead up to the episode to voice an objection: they had to approve the scripts, storyboards AND final episode for air, meaning they knew about this for likely a YEAR at most and MONTHS at best, before they choose to get cold feet. While wanting a content warning was fine, and it ended up giving us the season 3 intro as the best teaser ever, it still wasn’t handled right and Disney shoudl’ve fully apologized for it and to Matt Braly for it.
Oh and to prove they learned nothing there was supposed to be a premiere livestream last night that got mysteriously canceled, likely because disney didn’t figure people from BOTH coasts would be tuining in or that people would spread this around, once again not getting that Amphibia’s audience isn’t JUST children and they should embrace that instead of constantly fighting against it.
In less asinine news, I actually rewatched both seasons this summer. My friend @jess-the-vampire had never seen it but wanted to so I gladly binged both seasons with her. Season 1 was done all in one night, which went well enough but also resulted in us feeling like this afterwards

So yeah we split season 2 into two nights. My point there is i’m going into this season remembering WAY more of past seasons off the top of my head than I usually would as it’s still realtively fresh, and I got one of my best friends into the fandom. So that’s nice.
Finally at ComicCon we got something awesome: A full as could be done over zoom crossover between this show and Owl House. It’s awesome and it’s on youtube in full so it’s worth checking out, both mesh well and my only complaint was Alex Hirsch was missing, so while Amphibia had it’s full core cast present, Owl House was one short, making the crossover feel slightly lopsided since it also took place in Amphibia. Still it was a solid crossover, with all the actors fully game, and with network censors entirely absent we got the glory that was Eda being drunk for the whole thing.
So with all that, we can finally get to he episode itself, so join me under the cut as Anne comes home, The Plantars make a new home, and Andrias sends a predator robot to steal a children’s book. Full spoilers under the cut. Let’s go!
PREVIOUSLY ON AMPHIBIA
And now, the story continues
We pick up exactly where we left off: Anne and the Plantars stranded on earth , atop a car in the middle of traffic, the fates of everyone back on Amphibia unknown. The Plantar’s have a bit of sensory overload something I didn’t think about but makes perfect sense: their used to a fairly quiet stretch of farmland.... one populated by horrifying giant creatures making horrifying giant creature noises sure, but tha’ts something their used to. Honking cars, bright lights and wacky flailing inflatable arm flailing tube men, it makes perfect sense.
So, after Anne realizes she is home and revels in it, she gets them off the Freeway and gives her friends a chance to breathe, confirming she’s home by.. checking the wifi signal. I’d scoff or something but even as an almost 30 year old man.. i’d do the same thing.
So with that it’s onto the footage that was revealed back at ComicCon earlier this year, as Anne journey’s home to reunite with her old family. Sprig pokes at everything and ends up in a sewer, wrong city for sewer amphibians buddy check New York, and Polly tries out her new legs, while Hop Pop wonders if Marcy is still alive.
Anne hopes she is but has bigger concerns as they approach her parents house: how the hell to tell her all of this: that she’s the savior of a world, that her best friends both betrayed her, that she now has to fight an evil dictator who stabbed one of said friends, that they now have to house her adopted frog family, oh and that said dictator is building up an army of robots to invade soon.
So she wisely decides to ease them into it, having the plantars hide in the garbage while she slowly unpacks all this.
So we get an utterly heart wrenching and heartwarming scene. We see Anne’s mom, really hope they tell us her name soon, dispondent, going through the motions, walking through the part, clearly distraught her daughter's been gone 5 months. And i’m OH so happy this episode finally told us just HOW long Anne had been gone, it clears up the timeline a bit... a bit it’s still hard to figure out what goes where off the top of my head even having rewatched the show, and feels like a BIT too short, but i’ll take it. It’s better than Ducktales timelining system of...
The reunion itself, once she opens the door and finds Anne is utterly tearjerking, as is her father finding her, and Domino coming up to her. It’s all sweet.. but just as we get to Anne about to tell them.. Hop Pop fucks it all up and exits early. After about maybe two minutes. With Polly rightfully questioning how the hell he thought it was time already. Sprig also goes with it and introduces himself, causing Anne’s Dad to faint.
One scene transition later, Anne has used a detailed series of charts to fill her family in up to the third temple where she rewrites the ending slightly, saying she and the plantars got sucked up unexpectedly. It’s understandable: her parents are BARELY holding it in there with her dad flat out admitting he woudln’t buy the story at all were the Plantars not right there in his living room. Adding in True Colors might give the poor man a heart attack.
So Anne understandably wants to return the favor and have the plantar’s stay with them. Her parents response?
They just want this whole thing ot be finished and not have to think about it, which while understandable.. isn’t fair to the Plantar’s who just got stranded from home and risked life and limb to shelter Anne when she needed it. Their suggestion of what to actually do is even worse: Got to the goverment and let them take care of them. Yes because the US Goverment has ALWAYS tolerated people different than them and treated them with the utmost respe...
Yeah Anne shuts that shit down, pointing out they’d just prope and disect them, something none of the plantars are happy about and with Anne vowing to protect them. It’s clear from the Boonchuy’s faces this is wher eit FINALLY hits them just how much the Plantars mean to their daughter and how much they did for her, and that even if this is going to suck goats.. they can’t just throw them out and hope the goverment dosen’t do a murder like they definitely would.
They settle on quarntining the Plantars inside for now. There exact words. While I think this was likely always how Matt intended to have them react to the plantars, it’s VERY clear they leaned into the humor here big time as many could relate to not beiing able to go outside after the hellscape that has been the past two years and will probably reach into next year because people are dumb and are actively refusing to do something for their personal health because MAH FREEDOM. A jaunty song about not being able to go outside is just what we needed.
Said song is played over a montage that shows this works at first, with Anne showing off her room (Complete with Thailand Flags), trying on her clothes.. but it quickly becomes apparently having three extra people in the house who can’t go outside ever who have never experienced the human world isn’t going too good. Sprig shoves everything from a garfield book, to Anne’s old shoe to almost her phone in the microwave, the plantars flood the bathroom rehydrating, and Poly, after a bonding process, ends up riding domino as her steed as we all knew was inetivible. Not only that Anne’s best plan to stop andrias.. is to google how to do it. Which is a good idea in theory but should be done in pieces and not just googling “how to defeat a newt king”. Not only that the Plantars start to chafe under being shut inside when there’s a world to explore and Anne starts to get annoyed with her mom hovering over her, eventually finding her mother doing her hair in the middle of the night, the last straw being when she shows up with her toothbrush.
Anne ends up calling a family meeting which includes the plantars because they are family. She wants the two to ease up a bit, understanding that their scared and overprotective after her absence, but that she does need space, and that the plantars can’t be trapped here forever. Her parents aren’t on board, in part because they haven’t realized how much Anne has Grown and how before she left she hated responsiblity.. to the point she crocheted a thing saying such as a toddler which dosen’t remotely suprise me.
Hop Pop steps in to help her.. and while he first points out things like Anne nearly burning the city down and getting them eaten, he also points out she was their protector, frog of the year, and really grew as a person. Their STILL not convinced, which is fair, but after mentioning their going to Market, Anne talks them into letting her and the Plantars tag along: she’ll get them disguises and pies of all sizes, and keep track of them and the market they go to is usually sparsley populated enough that the plantars should be safe. They reluctnatly agree and Anne shots upstairs.
Upstairs Anne first goes with her old baby clothes for her new family.. but backs off once it results in Hop Pop in a borat style mankini... one second...
So with that Anne gets them their proper TMNT and Ben Grimm style trench coats and sunglasses, with the kids stacking on top of each other.. or rather Polly because she wants to try out her legs. And just like that Vincent Adultman lives again.
Anne is confident though: As she tells the Plantar’s the earth isn’t nearly as dangerous: the birds and bugs are normal sized and nothing’s trying to kill you every five minutes.... except the chucky epidemic but that’s moved all the way to new jersey, so not their problem.
Naturally though musing about how everything's safer now makes Lady Fate smack one upside the head, so we cut to King Andrias’ spooky castle. In the day since True Colors, his army is already growing and should be ready for invasion soon... but unlike some supervillains, who get cocky and assume their arch enemy will just fuck off after they won, Andrias knows as long as Anne is out there, she could stop him. So he sends out a stealth model, this one being a newt, of his robots to go kill her, not be seen as to tip off the humans to his invasion... and get him the latest of the books Marcie got him into. He’s not made of stone.
Back on earth Anne and the Plantars arrive and Papa Boonchuy lays down some ground rules: stay together and don’t cause a ruckus or it’s back to quarantine.
Once inside the Plantars are naturally dazzled by everything: Sprig assumes every machine the supermarket has is a robot, which reminds me of that cut cheese scene from Borat

He does point out a toy robot though so point for Sprig. Meanwhile Hop Pop is unimpressed by how small earth veg is, not use dot supermarkets, when he finds a durian fruit. I have heard of these before, mostly in shape... but what I didn’t know is they smell REALLY bad. I’ve never sniffed one myself.. and that’s probably a good thing as Hop Pop’s first time with it causes him to spasm on the floor, which the other shoppers shrug off once Anne explains it. Look I have enough of a natural cartoon stink cloud following me I don’t need it having children with a fruit stink cloud. That’s how you get a zombie apocalypse.
Daddy Boonchuy panics though as he forgot the list.. which I can relate to as my mom’s forgotten hers plenty. Anne proves how much she’s grown though as she took a copy on her phone and send sit to her parents, who are impressed. After the Plantars notice a noodle area in the court, Anne asks to take them and after the dickering you’d expect at this point, Dad-doo Boonchuy agrees... and both parents are once again proud noticing just how easily Anne maunvers the plantar’s out of trouble.
So our heroes go to slurp down some noodle, complete with a fun bit of Anne balancing all three bowls despite the guy giving her a tray. Something tells me this is a thing with both of them. The plantars end up utterly loving it, slurping the hell out of it and of course having to be told these aren’t worms and, as Anne puts it are “the soul of asian food”. This is something I look forward to this season: learning little bits of Thai culture as we go. Earlier the Durian was pointed out as a Thai favorite (if not for anne, the smell’s a bit much).
I do genuinely love that Matt put his own perspective and culture in here, with Amphibia itself coming out of him feeling like a stranger in a strange land during boyhood trips to Thailand. I don’t feel the culture or country has gotten enough representation, as evidenced by the fact Bangkok is the only part of it I ever see come up because “get it it sounds like BANGCOCK HUR HUR”, so it’s nice to learn some more and it genuinely makes me want to research Thai Culture.
But there will be time for more culture later as the Robot finds them, and proceeds to invisible choke Anne till they can spill some noodle on it to reveal it, as water or electricity make it visible. It scurries off and our heroes hea doff, trying to figure out how to fight the thing without Anne’s parents finding out, managing to make them scurry by telling them their going to go find a fish for her mother.
They do figure out how to at least drown out the sounds: METAL
I love that this is the shows solution..and that it works, using it to drown out the fight sounds. We also get some wonderful charcter buildling with the Boonchuys as we see Anne’s Mom, who up to this point has been pretty straighlaced, put down her basket to do some air guitar, and her husband, whose stick is even farther up his ass, does the horns.. while their daughter fights a robot next ot them. Now that’s metal.
So a fight ensues as our heroes wonder HOW they can beat the thing. Polly and HP also wonder why Anne dosen’t just go Blooper Sayian and wreck them, but she admits she dosen’t know what the on button for that is, so they have to hide in the freezer... and the plantar’s naturally end up frogsicles again as our heroes hide. Even more naturally the stalker finds them, and attacks anne, then prepares to attack the plantars once they move to try and help but can’t because again, cubed.
Once again though, this turns out to be the trigger, allowing anne to at least PARTIALLY turn on her super sayian god super sayian powers and uppercut the robot, severley damaging it. The fight is quick but like the one at the end of last season awesome looking, showing off just how dangerous this form is. The robot BARELY escapes, heavily injured but still active.
We do see a downside to the power though: Anne pushes the plantas out, Sprig is impressed.. but then notices Anne passed out, her power simply too much for her. The Durian comes back into play as the kids use it to bring Anne back, and she admits that while the Blue Form IS incredibly strong... it’s also uncomfortable and makes her feel bad, so she’s reserving it for last case scenario for now.
The Boonchuys find the other half of their family and Daddy-Daddy-Do Boonchuy finally relents, apologizing for being so hard on them and agreeing to ease up, with both parents now realizing just how far Anne’s come.. and that it was these fine friends of hers that made it possible. So our heroes head home with Sprig once again punching fate in the junk by suggesting their safe, though Anne at least tells him to stop it this time. So as the Boonchuy-Planatars drive off, with the Plantars craving noodles now they’ve gained a taste for them we cut back to the Stalker, as i’m now calling him, who is repairing himself, determined to destroy them... and to Andrias, who wants the stalker to stay on them... and then turns to Marcy whose in a bacta tank.. and who he has plans for.
Final Thoughts:
The New Normal is a WONDERFUL welcome back. It sets up the new status quo perfectly, wonderfully flipping the show’s premiere on it’s head. Now i’ts our froggy friends who are strangers in a strange land causing trouble and Anne’s the one guiding them around our world. Not only that her parents take on Hop Pop’s roll, having to adapt to these strange guests they nonetheless feel obligated to take care of. It didn’t set in till I started writing these final thoughts just how much Hop Pop was like them at first: Trying to restrict anne for her saftey and constantly having to pull her in. With the Boonchuy’s it’s just as understandable as they just got Anne back and haven’t had the five months bonding she has with her new family. It takes seeing both how much Anne’s changed and how much their clearly resonsible to warm up to them.
The moments with Hop Pop are also nice, with HP being the one to tell Anne’s parents she’s grown, and show them he’s also had to put up with her irresonsible and reckless streak of the past. I do like that while he LEADS with the good stuff.. it’s actually the BAD stuff that likely convinces them. By showing them that yes Anne still very much was the irresonible kid she left as 5 months ago, it likely makes hearing she became a true hero and beloved member of the community far more beliveable.. and something they fully buy into as they should once they see it in action. It’s hard sometimes to see someone’s changed and it takes time for it to set in, thoguh it is nice the show only took one episode for it to really set in.
Andraias attacking right away was also a nice twist: I thought given the solicits he’d send the robot now and we’d have to wait for it to show up at the end of the month. Instaed it attacks right away, our heroes have to deal with it, and it’s clear it’s only a matter of WHEN it will return and out the true scope of Anne’s plight to her parents. This is easily the best of the series three openings, and Anne or Beast is no slouch.
I also have to give On Braly TONS of credit here. This is apparently her virst Voice Acting Role period, and she steps into it perfectly. While she did get some apperances in previous seasons, there is a large gap between having to do a few one off gags.. and having to actually play a character full time, including emotional character stuff. Brain Sonalath is no slouch either. While he has more experince, and thus does more of the lifting, he stil lhas great comedic timing and both actors genienly bring a lot to the roll. It’s FAR from easy to come into a show three seasons in and join the main cast, and they do so admirably.
All in all this show as a bright start to what’s shaping up to be the series finest hour.
Next Week: Life begins afterschool when the Plantars bend all the rules in the place where they belong, their... .okay this dosen’t quite work. The Plantar’s are going to the mall, that’s what i’m getting at. And while that goes on we get to see what Sasha and Grime are up to as they have to pick up the pices from the finale. Hell yeah!

concept I will likely never write: Cells At Work/Venom crossover. Basically, the cells in Eddie’s body react to the absolute chaos that comes with a symbiote moving in.
“All right, got to get to work to heal that broken leg -- aaand it’s moved back into position and perfectly healed what the hell.”
“where the fuck is the kidney. I know it was here the last time we cycled through.”
"Was it a good idea to eat that?"
"Normally no, but the really helpful new cells seem to like it."
“Ah shit, that is a HUGE wound. I don’t even know how to begin to fix it, everyone just try not to get sucked out -- ok so the weird but helpful new cells fixed it in under a minute. that’s. good?”

The main problem with attempting to write it is that I have a habit of going on research spirals that result in not writing, and the level of medical detail involved in Cells At Work would probably make that worse than usual. also 90% of the concept in my mind is just the cells going “what the fuck” at everything.

Before I see Venom, I shall give you a scene I sincerely believe happened at some point between the films:
Anne: Dan, I had to wait until I could mentally sort this out enough to explain, but I want to be honest about something that happened that day between the MRI incident and the Life Foundation rocket exploding. It feels like I cheated in a really weird sort of way but please let me explain the whole thing.
Dan: . . . okay, I’m listening.
[brief recap of events later]
Anne: . . . and then Venom decided that the best way to return to Eddie was by kissing him, so I ended up kissing Eddie too.
Dan: Given that when we had dinner with him the other night it was very obviously a double date with him and Venom that’s entirely believable. I don’t really see it as cheating, if the kiss was Venom’s doing.
Anne:
Dan: um. The kiss wasn’t the part that felt like cheating, was it?
Anne: Sharing a body with a symbiote is a very intense experience.
Dan: huh. This . . . isn’t exactly a situation that relationship advice columns could help with, but it was an emergency situation so I can let this go. But if I’m ever in the same position I get a free pass to find out what it’s like.
Anne: that’s fair. Venom seems to want to stick with Eddie, so it’d probably be an emergency only thing.

I’ve seen a few posts going around by people wanting to assure their followers they don’t mind if someone likes a ton of their posts, and the general response is that no one here seems to think it’s weird, which left me wondering where the idea that it’s weird came from . . .
thinking about it, it’s probably carried over from other social media sites that have more personal info and less shitposting.
On your facebook account, if a guy you went to high school with likes your vacation selfie from two years ago at 3AM, you might feel a little creeped out.
On your tumblr, if a person with a fandom username goes through a tag for a specific movie and likes/reblogs half a decade’s worth of posts you made on the subject, you’d probably just think “haha, they probably just watched/rewatched that movie and needed a little content binge. Have fun.”

QOTS Rewatch S3 Recap
Six months (and *cough* 25,000 words of tag commentary) later my rewatch is complete...just in time for Season 4 to start! As always, my episode to episode commentary can be found in my #qots rewatch tag. The rest of my S3 rewatch recap can be found under the cut.
Let’s start with the rewatch traditional--
It’s Been 0 Days Since Jeresa Saved One Another Fandom Break Room Sign:
3x01-3x02: James saves Teresa by swooping to her rescue in Malta
3x02: Teresa saves James by turning on the lights to distract the sicarios searching her car while James is in the trunk. James saves Teresa by jumping through a f-u-c-k-i-n-g window and tackling the sicario. Teresa saves James by shooting the sicario attacking James. Teresa attempts to save James by begging the police to let him go and just take her instead.
3x03: James saves Teresa by shooting Rocco’s man at the bank.
3x04: They both attempt to save the other by volunteering to stay with Mayo. James saves Teresa by sniper shooting the sheriff.
3x05: James attempts to save Teresa by surrendering to Devon. Teresa saves James by risking her life and going for the guns rather than letting Devon take him.
3x06: James saves Teresa by rescuing her and Guero in Mexico.
3x07: James (and Pote) save Teresa from Pecas’ assassin at the winery.
3x08: Teresa saves James by tackling him when he runs toward the about to explode van.
3x13: Gonna go ahead and give James an honorary one for his departure in the finale.
SEASON THREE TALLY: James saves Teresa: 7; Teresa saves James: 4 (and one could argue on an existential level, which is immeasurable really? lol). But the discrepancy does make sense: for the first time, S3 has James’ official job description include saving Teresa. Protecting her isn’t just a hobby anymore it’s a profession ;)
One Thing I Wished I’d Kept Track of on Rewatch: All the times Teresa has said,”I want to make a deal” or the like because she says it a LOT. I love that for Teresa conflict avoidance is fair and logical business dealings.
S3 Reoccurring Trends:
Teresa’s Explosive Season: 3x01 Teresa survives the flash bomb in the Malta Cafe; 3x10 Teresa survives Devon bombing El Santo’s compound; 3x13 Teresa survives Cortez’s bomb in the shipment.
James and Teresa in Police Custody: (Or the one of these things is not like the other): 3x02 we got the classic Top Ten Places to Do Time Jeresa convo in the back of a police car before they both ultimately walk away free; 3x04 Teresa and James are picked up by Mayo and driven to the middle of nowhere together before Teresa is taken away but both eventually walk away free; 3x13 James...rides off into the night in Devon’s custody. Ouch. Let’s hope the “eventually walks away free” is implied.
Teresa’s Cartel Extraction Plan: 3x05 she offers Kelly Anne money and papers for a new life after the Devon winery confrontation; 3x11 Teresa gives Lil T a bag full of cash and her walking papers; 3x13 Teresa sets up a five year exit plan for Taza; 3x13 Teresa doesn’t try to stop James from leaving once he says it is what he wants. Hope her own extraction plan is in the works, the opening scene 1x01 perhaps?
James Digging His Own Graves: 3x04 James is left by Mayo on the side of the road with a dead reporter and shovel; 3x06 James and Pote bury Guero; 3x11 James presumably buries Kelly Anne; Does turning himself into Devon at the end count? Gotta say I was concerned when the isolated meeting place was shot the same as the roadside meet with Mayo.
And of course The Jeresa Trust Carousel: round and round it goes. IMO James entered the season knowing HIS feelings for Teresa and where he stood. This season was Teresa’s journey of trusting James, to admittedly mixed results. You can read my meta about that here, here, here, here, here and here. As we know, James exited said carousel at the end of S3. It’ll be interesting to see what strides Teresa takes trust-wise while they are apart and if that ever results in a second try at a different trust capability level later on in the show?
Related: Things That Make You Go Hmmm... James has saved someone by NOT killing them for Teresa every season. In season one he spared the maid, in season two he spared Guero and in season three he...shot and killed Kelly Anne? OR DID HE. Guess we’ll find out soon!
Miscellaneous Observations and Oh, What Could Have Been:
Still bummed we didn’t get Teresa, James and Camila all in the same conversation together having to quickstep a competing loyalties line dance at least ONCE. Kinda would have liked to see how well James could do-si-do that situation, or at least have to try?
I wish we had gotten some Kelly Anne and King George hijinks–can you imagine the chaotic good energy of THOSE two on a mission together? Or, you know, at least sharing a scene?
If the show refuses to give James any backstory how about giving the guy an El Santo hallucination and see what shakes loose? I’m not picky.
While I’m excited to see what Javier will bring to the story, I couldn’t help but notice that S3 had Teresa losing two female friendships/connections (Kellly Anne and Lil T) and adding two male (Javier and Boaz). All of the S4 promos have been focused on Teresa and....a bunch of dudes. And that can’t be right, RIGHT SHOW?! RIGHT?!

CLEXACON 2018
Hello everyone! As I am not (yet) a YouTuber, this post will serve as my recap. Last year I made a post on the con itself and how it made me feel being there as a first time attendee (x). But this year I am going to focus on the people I met or I was lucky enough to see again this year, because that is what ClexaCon was and still is to me, it’s all about the community. #WeAreClexaCon.
ClexaCon has grown exponentially since last year and, therefore, the kru has grown with it. I love and appreciate everyone I met up with during my short stay, so I wanna give everyone their own thank you. Sorry if I forget anyone, I’m trying really hard not to and sorry for typos, this is a stream of consciousness thank you letter.
Elke: Obviously I have to begin with my sister and frequent con buddy @damnlexa. My platonic soulmate. There’s nothing I could say here that I haven’t already said to her 100 (triggered) times over, but I’ll give it a shot. Any con, any event, any experience can only be improved by having Elke by your side. Not only is she incredibly smart, talented, funny and weird as fuck, but she has the most niche and hilarious kind of humour I have ever seen in a person. Honestly she’s so weird you guys. Sometimes being in a room full of strangers (potential friends) can be terrifying, especially to a nervous asshole like me. Just having her in the same room as you even if she’s not close by can be incredibly comforting, because I know that if I’m ever in trouble in a conversation, all I need to do is look at her and she’ll be right there with me. Knowing that she’s there really opened me up to talk to more people this year than I felt comfortable with last year. Without her I wouldn’t have made half of the friends I made at ClexaCon and I bet she doesn’t even realise that, so thank you Elke. Now I have to move on because people will get jealous!
Sofia Rojas: The only negative thing I can say about Sofia @shes-special is that I didn’t spend see her more. One of the only people that can make me burst into laughter just by looking at her. Has a smirk that drives the ladies crazy. It’s a good one you guys. A very honest and kind hearted Canadian, which means that (I think) it’s quite easy to see what she’s thinking. This led to many moments during the convention where you couldn’t keep your face to yourself Sofia, which I have forgiven you for because it caused the bursting into laugher moments that were stated above. Master of the accidental deadpan humour “is that what you’re wearing?” which still cracks me up. Also only ally I had in the d*ke jokes, which is very appreciated! You didn’t leave me out in the cold (like a certain small, cardigan losing, Australian). I now have a shot glass collection because of you and I’ll think about you every time I use them (such a kind gift, ty shrimp! <3). Again, wish I could have seen her more, but CLEXACON 2019!?
Rin: My mother hen who I have said way too many nice things about these past few days, so what more can I say? You can never be sad when you’re in a room with Rin, you can try but it doesn’t work. Even the most emo of lesbians will smile when talking to her, she’s a ray of sunshine and no one can ever tell me otherwise. She’s remarkably talented in everything I’ve seen her do and she’s fiercely passionate about all the things she loves *cough* Faberry. It’s easy to feel ashamed when talking about the things you love, especially if it’s fandom related but that insecurity disappears when talking to her. Her resolve is strong, even when I ramble on about my questionable fandom choices (still love you Marley). There’s no one I’d have rather travelled the world with. Ed Sheeran, The Greatest Showman and now even Camila will always be associated with her. Sometimes it’s a good idea to not limit your friendship groups based on age and distance because you’ll find gems like matchbox_sized along the way.
Ylva: Oh Wolverine, the new one of the group. A tall string bean I didn’t meet last year who has now stormed into my life. What would suite parties be without you to sing Eurovision songs with and belittle the Americans and Australians (boring; they’d be boring). Your blunt unwillingness to follow the rules of Kings/Ring of Fire is a memory to cherish. It’s rare to click so quickly with someone and so I am grateful for the times when things got hectic and I got separated from people and then miraculously found you. Sarcastic comments and deadpan humour always sound surprising coming from you which makes it even funnier. Best ClexaCon banter buddy. The con had it’s ups and downs but all of our chill sessions were definitely highlights, so thank you, SKAL. Swedish representation is important everyone. (ps. gonna start the Vikings just for you) (p.p.s. let’s put money on Israel to win Eurovision)
Emily-Anne: A YouTuber that, for me, was exactly the same online as she was in real life. The wit, compassion and well articulated thoughts are not a YouTube gimmick friends, it’s real. Again, only downside was that I didn’t get to see her more. In 2018 you need all the DCOM fans you can get, even if she didn’t know that Year 3000 isn’t a Jonas Brothers song, that can be forgiven! It’s important to have people in your life that will pity laugh at your jokes and for that Emily-Anne is a champ. Easy to forget this was her first year attending because she merged into the kru effortlessly. See you next year? We need all the bisexuals we can get, it ups our diversity quota.
Mollie: Oh Mollie, @molliemashstash MY AUSTRALIAN CARE FREE D*KE QUEEN. Can we say that word? EH, I just did. What would ClexaCon be without you annoying everyone and sticking a camera in people’s faces <3 Absolutely nothing. Your artistic abilities blow me away, it’s weird that so much talent can come from such a noob (jkjk). When everything gets too serious, it’s good to know that you're there to yell GOV and force things back to normal. I’m also very glad to see you sobbing into noodles, that memory will never leave me and I am very grateful for that. AUSTRALIAN ROAD TRIP CIRCA 2018? We’re bonded for life now so that’s definitely happening. #Machel #Rollie
Bri: BRIBRIBRIBRI!!!! An unexpected favourite of mine, unexpected in that I didn’t know you very well going into ClexaCon and now you’re one of favourite people. As soon as I got in your car (don’t get into cars with strangers everyone lol) I knew that we were going to get on and the fact that I immediately felt comfortable with you was v nice and v rare! It may have been due to how tired and delusional I was at this point but meh, I still <3 you. I am glad we got that last day together because we kept on missing each other at the con, everything was so hectic :’( I could easily spend an eternity arguing over culture differences with you and staring at you confused when you explain what mugging is and the horrors of America. Hopefully you <3 me back, because if not this is awkward. BYE.
Toni: I am constantly in awe of Toni’s passion and talent. Her writing ability is incredible, her podcasts blow me away. She is so articulate, which is a very hard to come by trait these days, and thinks carefully over her words. This makes her podcasts extremely interesting, which is further proven through her moderation of the Youtube 2.0 panel. Questions were carefully chosen, everyone had a chance to speak, a respectful tone was kept throughout with some well added, kind hearted banter, and I think a lot of that efficiency is thanks to Toni! Honestly check out her podcast, you’ll love her (x). (it’s on soundcloud and itunes) I can’t wait to spend more time with you at the Ultimates and when Uni is over we can make more plans okay friend! <3
Adrienne: Oh Adrienne. What a joy she is. Our humour clashes 8 times out of 10 but that’s what’s so great about ClexaCon, getting to get to know a wide range of people who are all different but all share the same one interest (QUEER LADIES). Your excitement is palpable and talking to you gets me to loosen up and be more carefree and spontaneous. You took this little introvert under your wing and even though your vet stories gross me out sometimes (okay all the time I’m sorry) I still love you and ClexaCon would never be the same without you. Also you hiccuping when... intoxicated, cracks me up every time I remember it. & your song was fckin incredible dude, no joke, record that shit!
Courtney: I’m so glad I got to talk to you more this year because omg you are a delight Courtney. The human personification of Hawaii. Chill, laid back, the calm amongst the storm. You made that last day fun instead of sad so thank you! Sense of humour on point and you didn’t take anyone’s shit, not even mine so good on you but also hey, pls love me. Also gives great food and sweet recommendations, even though I didn’t understand most of what was being given to me, I still bought it and trusted you. We have trust now Court, don’t ruin it. Also, is from Hawaii in case I haven’t mentioned that enough, don’t worry she’ll mention it for you. Hawaii is where she’s from btw. Did I talk about Hawaii yet?
Marcie: Wish I could have seen her more as well! After the ClexaCon weekend she earned 1 more subscriber, so, you’re welcome. Marcie has a very calming presence and I loved every conversation and experience I had with her; people often tell me that I’m judgemental (I’m working on it ok!) so that’s actually a big compliment. I was blown away by her intelligence and perspective. Very glad you got to be on the panel and I hope we meet again (*cry*) so we can talk more.
Hannah: Volunteer Hannah! The lovely volunteer who went above and beyond for Elke and I last year and who we owe a great debt to. I only got to spend a few minutes at a time with you because you were off doing important volunteer things, but I am grateful for all the brief encounters I was graced with. Come to ClexaCon UK and we can spend all day, every day together! (bet you’re regretting ever coming up and saying hi to me now) <3 The world needs more people like Hannah and conventions need more volunteers like her who are going in for all the right reasons and not just to take selfies with Rachel Skarsten ;)
Lisa: MY FAVOURITE COMIC STRIP WRITER. Has one of my all time favourite twitter accounts that everyone needs in their life (hint: it involves lesbians and ants!) (x). We had some great moments didn’t we Lisa, like that time you tweeted a picture of your location and I realised it was exactly where I was standing; such a good meet-cute. I loved that we could have a really intense conversation 30 seconds before Chyler Leigh was about to come on stage and like, bit rude, Chyler can’t you see we’re trying to get to know each other here. I’m glad to have met you and I feel smarter for knowing you.
Ella: Another person I literally hardly saw! Which is extremely frustrating but ahh why are cons so hectic?! An extremely lovely and compassionate person who I am lucky to have met and will continue to go on adventures with. See you in Liverpool/Manchester! I can’t wait. Drinks on me <3
Amelia & Kenzi: You guys are a package deal so you have to share a bullet point I’m sorry. Thank you for putting up with me trying to explain the rules of netball for a solid 3 hours (& thank you Amelia for understanding me). You 2 are adorable and were the best dinner table company a girl could ask for. You’re also really great at maths! & then trying to explain your working out to confused Europeans like me and Ylva who just wanted to pay for our meal using our weird fake dollars. You made that dinner very carefree and fun. CLEXACON 2019????

Ok, so continuing on from my last post here, Part 2(A)
My list is in no way even close to an exhaustive fic rec list for the pairing. It has some gems to get you started if you're new to the ship, or some fics to re-read, if you've already read these. If there is a podfic of the fic, I'll include that too! Podfics deserve more love and are a boon, allowing us to listen to our favourite stories while doing other work or playing games! They're one of the top reasons I've not fallen asleep while completing exploration in Genshin Impact lol.
In the m/m fics, i don't write the ship name with the top/bottom fixed in mind as i always headcanon them as versatile. (I know some people like to read fixed dynamics for certain ships, so this is just a fyi for them.)

Pairing: Frank Hardy/Nancy Drew aka Francy from The Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys Mystery Series
This, I think, was my first crossover ship EVER, all the way back in 7th grade. I remember reading my first super mystery, Club Dread and boy was i surprised to see hints of Frank being attracted to Nancy and being the romantic that i am my mind latched onto that idea and i recently got my hands on a copy of a Crime for Christmas with the ICONIC KISS SCENE and boy did all the feels come rushing back.
1. Baby I Hope (That It's You) by questionablemotive
She didn't mean for this to happen, plain and simple. Frank was never supposed to be an intricate piece of her puzzle, and she was never supposed to fall in love with someone who wasn't Ned. But, well, here we are.
Or
Nancy's journey of falling in love with Frank Hardy, denying it like crazy, before finally accepting it and doing something about it.
As it says in the summary. It's a character driven piece, and takes place via the universe of the Nancy drew games, so contains spoilers for them.
2. To Protect and Serve by rosa lunae
Special Agent Nancy Drew of the FBI has been given her first op as a lead agent in the Witness Protection program. She's shocked to find that the men she's vowed to protect from the deadly Russian mob are none other than Frank and Joe Hardy.
Since it's such an old fandom, one has to go to ffnet as well to search for fics and boy was i rewarded with this fic. It had suspense, action and romance that keeps one at the edge of their seats.
3. The Ampersand Series by kennac
From Exploring Fraud and Friendship (1st fic in series): Nancy heads to New York to consult with Hardy Investigators on the ins and outs of claims investigation to help her boss in Chicago prepare to bid on a new contract. This simple information-gathering assignment quickly turns deadly, and Nancy learns fraud and friendship can both be fraught with unseen land mines that can test even a seasoned detective’s resolve to remain impartial.
It's the longest series in the Francy ao3 tag that contains an awesome series with suspense, mystery and romance in spades. It keeps you engrossed in the mystery and the story and will be treat to those who enjoy reading the series.
4. Bringing Down The Barriers by DesertVixen
Nancy Drew and Frank Hardy find themselves on a family vacation together, with a few less barriers than before.
The first fic of another great Nancy Drew Hardy Boys crossover mystery series with the 1st fic having Francy have feels and get together, and the last fic deals with a mystery regarding Nancy's mother.
5. if the fates allow by veterization
A special machine delivered by P.G. Krolmeister sends Nancy into a future where she can witness firsthand the repercussions of her rejecting Frank Hardy.
A sweet Francy fic a based on the movie Just In Time For Christmas!

Pairing: Prapai/Sky from บรรยากาศรัก เดอะซีรีส์ | Love in the Air
I discovered this show mid-November and caved to finally watch it in December and gods I've fallen into the prapaisky brainrot so bad. Rainpayu is a close second, but something about the way prapai just cares about sky just does it for me personally. All fics have trigger warnings for mentions of sky's past. I legit have such a crush on the main cast of bossnoeul and fortpeat, especially fortpeat it's kinda embarassing 🥴 Oh to have prapai of my own 😭
1. Chasing Sky by kibosama Rated M
A prapaisky getting together fic, which was written before the prapaisky episodes were aired in the show. It picks and chooses parts of canon that the author likes and pretends the rest doesn't exist. The prapaisky dynamic in this is so self indulgent and yet so good.
kibosama has written some of the most beautiful canon adjacent fics in several fandoms that i highly recommend you read and can be read even if you've not seen the show yet. Their works have single-handedly pushed up certain shows up my to watch list and let me tell you that isn't easy, at all.
2. The Good Kind of Red by tennisuhs Rated M
“I do not owe you shit.”
Sky’s hand is slightly trembling as they clutch on the other boy’s collar.
“You don’t.” The racer scoffs. “But my friend will.”
“Let’s get you out of here, cutie.”

What if Sky and Prapai never fucked on the first meeting? What if, still, they haunted each other's memory from that they on?
Canon divergence from prapaisky's first meeting and it is OH SO GOOD!!! Sky is precious and just 🤌🏻
3. Pheromones on the Wind by loveleighalissa Rated M
Having been burned badly before by love, Sky plans to focus on school and pretending that men, mainly alpha's, don't exist. To bad for him there is a strong wind trying to blow down the walls he's built around his heart.
A omegaverse re-write of the prapaisky arc of Love in the Air. Part 1 is PayuRain and is still a WIP, read it here
4. Never Say by kibosama Rated M
Prapai is an auction house for the sole purpose of getting someone to sign a contract. He doesn't have any interest in owning a blood slave--until he lays eyes on Sky. That, he must have.
Sky's there for reasons of his own, mostly desperate reasons, and he's braced himself for a year of hell. Which doesn't seem to be forthcoming.
Someone needs to explain to this vampire that he's supposed to use Sky, not spoil him. Prapai doesn't seem to get it.
A vampire!Prapai fic that actually seems much softer than one might expect from a vampire fic. Also sassy sky is everything. Fun fact, this is the fic that actually convinced me to finally watch Love in the Air before another show that had caught my interest (Not Me the series).
5. Possessive Boyfriends Support Group series by kibosama Rated T
A crossover series between Love in the Air and The Eclipse where Ayan is Rain's childhood friend and him, Rain and Sky get upto various shenanigans and their poor boyfriends are pulled along for the ride (ehe 👀).
Made me watch The Eclipse after LITA lol. The power of an awesome fanfic author 😍😍

Fandom: Batman comics, Red Robin comics
Wayne Family Adventures introduced me to Tim Drake, aka Red Robin and I just fell in love with him so bad, it made me go back and read up on the history of Batman and his various Robins and i fell further in love with the various Robins over the years, though my favourites are Tim Drake and Jason Todd.
1. Code Bat Series by Listentothelittlebird
Within Gotham, the Bats are a tight-knit group - family - that runs like clockwork.
Outside of Gotham, none of their teammates know they’re related.
This series explores the shenanigans that the Bats get up to, as well as how this distinction would affect canon.
(This is an AU where the Bats are secretly affiliated, but nobody knows that.)
One of my favourite Robin centric series with occasional appearances by Teen Titans, the Justice League and the Outlaws. I love the bonds between all the Gotham vigilantes and how dedicated they are helping each other despite the occasional complicated bonds between them.
2. Liminal Space by Calamityjim
Bruce's habit of collecting strays is not limited by dimension.
Or
When Young Justice Batman comes across an angsty, seemingly abandoned by his Batman Tim Drake, he decides to step up to the plate and parent the crap out of him.
I love this genre of fix-it fics because let's face it,in canon these boys do not have it easy at all. Especially Tim Drake. And Bruce isn't much of a parent in comic canon as much I would like. So I look to fanfics for my emotional needs.
Also has a Podfic and is part of a awesome as fuck series that i suggest you read here (features Tim/Kon in the later parts of the series)
3. Doctor!Tim by wintersnight (Tim Drake/Dick Grayson/Jason Todd) Rated E
It's really just the usual day. Home after a grueling seventy-two hours on the ER rotation. Make a pot of coffee. Find a bleeding vigilante on your fire escape. All pretty standard for Gotham.
Civilian doctor Tim AU who's a bamf ER surgeon (just being an ER surgeon is bad-ass enough, but being one in Gotham automatically deserves bamf status, because I could NEVER).
It actually is somewhat medically accurate (as a doctor, myself, i can verify that) and is ALL TOO ACCURATE as to how busy the life of a surgeon can get. And Steph as the nurse is genius and makes me miss all the nurses I worked and made friends with. And the trio of Tim/Dick/Jason have sizzling chemistry with each other.
4. Jason Todd: The Not-So-Outlaw by GoAwayOlivia Rated M
Jason Todd isn't what Batman made him, he isn't what the Joker made him, he isn't what the League of Assassins made him, and he isn't what the Lazarus Pit made him. He's his own person and he's taking himself back, one home renovation at a time. Also he might just make friends with the people who are supposed to be his brothers while he's at it.
One of my favourite Jason centric fics!!!!!
5. Latchkey by goldkirk
or, How Tim Drake Found A Family, Became A Photojournalist, Learned To Love Coffee, and Grew Up, not necessarily in that order.

It is work of love and passion and it SHOWS in the fic. Medically, i would say it's kind of like House MD levels of accuracy, which it's more than ok, especially since I'm pretty sure konoha doesn't even have the concept of germ theory known, since they deal with chakra for healing.

An underrated WIP that deserves more recognition for it's sheer uniqueness and yet rightness of concept (if that makes sense) of the fic and whose updates I'll wait years for.

Those are some of the first words Ajax, starving college student extraordinaire, has the misfortune of hearing upon waking up in a brave new world from what he's fairly sure is a very, very fatal accident involving water and a shit ton of electricity.
Okay, so he's not dead. That's good. But what's this about him being stuck playing the character Tartaglia? Tartaglia, as in the shitty, one-dimensional, cartoonish villain who met his untimely, gruesome death in the first act of the original game?
Fuck that noise. Like hell Ajax is going to share that fate.
And so begins one man's journey to unfuck himself.
A Zhongchi fic based on Scum Villian that in my admittedly biased opinion, one of the best Zhongchi fics. A WIP clocking in at almost 300k that updates regularly with long long updates that'll keep you engrossed!

A Wolf Amongst Lions by Kallypso
Tywin Lannister discovers the true identity of his cup bearer at Harrenhal. Now, with another bargaining chip in his possession, he has a chance to turn the war. Arya Stark, despite her best efforts, falls back into the Game of Thrones. To survive in a lion's den, a wolf has no choice but to adapt.
This is a beautiful, lovely fic that kept me engrossed till i finished the fic's last sentence. The evolving relationship and bond between Arya and Tywin depicted in this fic is fascinating to read. As is her evolving relationship with the rest of the Lannisters, and how it all affects the rest of Game of Thrones canon.

1. Favorite movie(s) you’ve seen recently?
I'm trying to remember ... I think the last movie I watched recently that I hadn't already seen before was Aliens, which I loved. I also recently watched Enchanted again, which is a fave of mine. The best movie I saw semi-recently was Get Out.
2. Favorite show(s) at the moment?
Ooh boy. Okay. The Leftovers is sitting at the top of a pile of brilliant shows that I love and enjoy right now, which include: The Americans, The Handmaid's Tale, Catastrophe, Jane the Virgin, Veep, Fargo, Blackish, American Gods. Dying for the new Twin Peaks, also really looking forward to the new seasons of Master of None and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt coming out this month. I'm leisurely rewatching and loving Seinfeld. And uh, other recent favorites not currently airing episodes include: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Big Little Lies, Broad City, Fleabag, The Young Pope, The Good Place, Atlanta, Grace and Frankie.
And this is mainly (some days more than others) an X-Files blog, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3. Favorite fandom(s)?
This -- The X-Files fandom -- is the only one I've ever been slightly more than a lurker in and the only one where I've actually made friends, so, duh.
4. Favorite thing(s) you’ve most recently read?
I straight-up don't read books much at all right now, but bury me with @teethnbone’s fic "Ex Obscuris Lux" and I'll be happy, thanks.
Um, I really loved this recap of/meditation on the most recent episode of The Leftovers, too.

5. A quote that you relate to?
I don't hang on to quotes very often, though I love a good sentence/paragraph more than anything. I should start some kind of document where I actually collect the things I like. But I do have some quotes on those sticky notes on my Mac? I guess this is one that I ~relate to~, from Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez, who is an absolutely beautiful writer but a maddeningly frustrating person: “But one does not forget by trying to forget. One only remembers.”
6. A few of your favorite songs/music?
Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Florence and the Machine, Daughter. I'd say that's what I listen to most, but I enjoy a wide range of stuff. Song-wise, you know, I think “Swimming” might be my favorite Florence song. Daughter’s “Smother” is a serious fave. I think “Teenage Dream” is a perfect pop song.
7. Some authors you enjoy?
Ugh, these questions make me feel guilty about my years-long reading rut. Can I just talk about writers I generally enjoy? Because "author" is a word that, hmm, it implies something different.
I love Joan Didion and John Jeremiah Sullivan and David Foster Wallace (his essays--I am not an Infinite Jest Dude, but those essays are brilliant), Rebecca Traister and Emily Nussbaum and Anne Helen Peterson and Eli Saslow and Kathryn Schulz and Ta-Nehisi Coates and Jia Tolentino.
I’m actually sitting here considering how, at this point in my life, I Don’t Know who my favorite writers of longer things are because I just don’t read like I used to. That’s interesting/troubling to me!
8. Favorite places you’ve been to?
I really enjoyed the climate and cacti of Arizona (in winter/spring, not summer!), even though politically the place is abhorrent to me. I haven’t been anywhere that I’ve really wanted to go, for a vacation or something, so I don’t have much to choose from, though! Hopefully soon.
9. What is your ideal free day?
Pleasantly warm but not overly hot summer weekend day. I can do some garden stuff and sit outside and read or do whatever without being bothered, with some kind of iced beverage that I didn't make. Ideally, this day also involves french fries and gossip.
10. Favorite scents?
Onions caramelizing, almond extract, the top of my cat's head, gasoline, horse.

It has only been a little over a year since I started watching the show and joined the Black Sails fandom. I posted my first fanart exactly one year ago and it was the one above. Thus far I have drawn over 100 of them. I tried different mediums and styles, both for practice and for capturing the essence of the things I wanted to share. Some of them are great, some are silly, some are a bit out of character or not so good in other ways and some ended up surprising me in many ways. All are nonetheless very precious to me.
Under the read more there's a list of all my doodles thus far. Most of them feature Flint, Silver or both of them (there will be more of the other characters in the future, no worries). I have to admit I laughed quite a lot while going through these again. This is a really long post.
This is a list to show what sort of things there are and also for my own amusement and archiving purposes. The list is in chronological order, from first to the latest.
I tried to make this as concise as possible, but the tag/navigation page is here if you want to find something specific or don’t want to go through all this:
- Flint takes care of Silver's leg in the darkness of the captain's cabin.
- Some quick doodles of Flint, ballpoint pen
- Sharkdate cuties (really scrappy doodles of Silver gazing at munching Flint)

- A canary. Flint finds a sad-looking caged bird aboard a merchant ship and then reads books to it in his cot. Inspired by @old-long-john's sweet and beautiful fic (x). Also thanks to @captain-flint for spotting the bird cage in s1.

- Silver, a sad little face doodle
- A bringer of death and destruction (Flint as an angel of sorts). Quick doodle with a brush
- Silver and Flint. A little doodle with an ink-dipped cotton swap
- "Hungry", Silver and Flint find the whale and prepare to hunt sharks.
- "SAD?" NOT TODAY! There's always Silver Lining. Silly and shitty puns.
- "Hidden", The treasure has been buried.
- "LOST", Silver and Flint look for a bird on board the Walrus.
- "ROCK", Ben Gunn and Billy Bones play rock-paper-scissors. (sorry, still no better doodle of them)
- "BROKEN", Benjamin Hornigold misses his chair.
- "Lock the door", Flint on the floor of his cabin when they were becalmed ;_;
- "TRANSPORT", Anne Bonny takes Jack Rackham to safety on a horse.

- "TREE", What difference does it make? Captain Naft shares his insight. Froom and Crisp agree. Morley and Randall (+ Betsy the Cat) are not impressed (for obvious reasons...).

- "Forget-me-not" / "one dozen", Miranda finds some familiar flowers and thinks about Thomas.

- Accidents with the spyglass. Flint acts like an asshole, Billy and Gates are having none of it, Silver is yet to learn.
- Death builds a raft and follows the Walrus.

- Long John Silver must make a tough choice, while Flint enjoys his capture at Eleanor's expense
- All those extra spyglasses in 4.08. Maybe the answer was Israel Hands' hoarding.
- Fresh air on the balcony of the Walrus. (a drawing of the ship at night). There're celebrations on the deck, Flint and Silver have a private talk.
I find it endearing how this list ends with the balcony one. Like a parallel (ha!) to the first one, where Flint and Silver are having a private moment on board of a ship, although it is a different ship and at a different time. A year ago I had no idea where this all would lead me and how much I would learn and get to experience *pats my past-self in the back awkwardly and fondly*
Looking back at them (doodles) I feel both proud and slightly embarrassed of my enthusiasm. I have never done anything like this for any other fandom. I have never felt so much and had such an urge to engage in this sort of thing.
This show, its creators and crew, this fandom. Just something unbeliavable. I cannot find the words to say how much I appreciate you all. The brilliancy, the humour, the love in all kinds of forms. I am so glad I stumbled on this show (it was a gif or a fanvid about ep 2.05 that made me aware of this show, btw. I cannot remember it clearly anymore and for a moment I thought Crossbones was a pilot for Black Sails and almost missed everything, but that's a story for another time...)
Know this: I have loved sharing this experience (the show, the fandom) with you and I appreciate everything you have given to me or shared with me. I will treasure this. (I apologize not thanking more people individually, but this post would’ve never reached its end otherwise).
*throws hearts and forehead kisses to the best and inspiring fandom and the greatest show that broke my heart and healed my soul so many times*
