Andy's latest version of his history: he "effectively" led two separate cults by accident because of an "echo chamber" that affirmed his erroneous beliefs. All he really wanted to do was help people! And remember, he was hiding the fact that he was trans, so that made him especially prone to going off the rails and ending up as a cult leader somehow. Twice. If only the people following him had known to be wary of an individual claiming to have "a Great World-Changing-Reality-Shifting TRUTH" because that's totally what he did right up front!
The reality is that he literally led two separate cults, which he built and maintained using time-honored techniques right out of the standard cult leader playbook, and he abused people within these cults. Read Abbey's blog for a high-level overview of how he drew in her and the Bagenders, his Lord of the Rings-based cult:
[Andy] was very skillful at letting other people draw conclusions that he controlled. With time and perspective, it was a clear and obvious pattern. He’d spend as much time as possible isolating his next target, taking extended walks and talking for hours and hours. Eventually, he’d start weaving in all the supernatural stuff and then suddenly someone else “had figured it out.” Which, of course, was more proof; they hadn’t been told, they had put it together independently. And once we believed, we believed.
Oh, and this should go without saying--but trans people (including those who are closeted) and people with mental illnesses are in no way more prone to cultbuilding behavior than anyone else is. It's unconscionable that Andy is still using these things as excuses for what he did.

to head things off: this is NOT an accusation of lying! i was curious how you found out that the OP of that thread was andy thanfiction bc i'd have assumed after all his shit came to light that he'd be off the internet by now. or at least certainly not existing so publicly. i would be so curious to follow your trail on finding out that this twitter rando was actually a cult-starting nutcase bc it sounds like a RIDE
I mean, YOU'D THINK. But keep in mind that Andy has been doing this since the 90s and has had several cons blow up in his face - if getting caught was at all a deterrent for him, he'd have stopped long before this.
I will say, it's not that interesting. Several years ago, I subscribed to a Dreamwidth forum that's basically just Andy-watching, since he'd just popped up again at the time and there was a very public fallout between him and the friends he'd lied to, not only about the extent of his bullshit but also basic information like how old he was. This was in like 2018. I'd known about him before that (I'd read his fanfiction and thought it was okay) but this was the first time I followed something contemporaneously.
But it was almost completely dormant until like a couple of weeks ago, when an anon there alerted everyone to his new Twitter handle. I did triple check both when that initial alert went out and before I posted anything, because I wanted to be certain I wasn't accusing an innocent person of being a cult leader.
But I needn't have worried, since I just checked again when I got this anon, and he's very publicly complaining about it.

anyway i'm still down in the "revisiting andy blake's sordid history of fandom and real life crimes" rabbit hole, it's wild down here
i somehow missed that he'd tried to run his grift in critical role fandom, like i guess that happened when i was away from tumblr, and whooooooo boy i'm glad that got shut down fairly quickly

One of my favorite YouTubers just did a video on Bit of Earth! It’s a great summary with plenty of primary source material, including Abbey’s blog. She also did a great job countering the transphobia in Jeanine’s book and sorting everything out in spite of its non-linear structure.
It sounds like she’s going to do a part two on DAYDverse, so keep an eye out for that sometime in the future.

Maybe it's a bit of a dumb question but as a trans girl I'm curious, was Andy your introduction to trans people? If so, I'm so sorry for that
He was the first trans person I was close to, but I minored in gender studies and endeavored to be an ally. I continue that work to this day - I am very active on the gender affirming care committee at my work and have several trans and nonbinary friends.
Andy's gender identity is the absolute least interesting thing about him.

Hi. Another person who went down the rabbit hole thanks to Strange Aeons' vid. Apparently the dude had his sights on Taliesin and looking like him, not Liam. More specifically he latched onto Mollymauk, which made me scream because of how Lucien's story lines up with that dude's awful history.
i picked liam for the joke because the original "duplicate souls" were people who'd played elves and hobbits and stuff and liam felt right but this makes SO MUCH more sense
thank you to all the critters who were like 'not this community actually fuck off'
but i have now fallen down an imagination slide (or possibly a Mindhole lmao) of imagining andy blake turning Mollymauk's backstory and Lucien etc etc into a cult.... I am so happy it didnt happen and yet full of hysterical horrified laughter at the very idea - the cult stuff literally writes itself

« Think of that: a red-state Democrat running on abortion rights and winning. Only in a post-Roe world.
[ … ]
Beshear has now won two races in a state that favored Trump by 26 points in 2020. The first could have been dismissed as a fluke, given that in 2019 he faced an unpopular Republican incumbent in a tough environment for the GOP. But he significantly expanded his margin of victory this time. He’s also just 45 years old.
He’s not the only governor to win multiple times in an unfavorable state for his party. Such governors tend to have little hope nationally because of how much they have to moderate and even criticize their party. But in Beshear, Democrats could actually have someone potentially acceptable to their base. He’s largely in line with his national party on key social issues. »
— Aaron Blake at the Washington Post writing about Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear.
Gov. Beshear won by a bigger margin in 2023 than he did in 2019 when he ran against a deeply unpopular and corrupt GOP incumbent governor. And his opponent this year was endorsed by both Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell who had racked up big margins in Kentucky.

vance : i didn't understand why people cared so much about their dumb fluffy-haired trans best friends, until i got a dumb fluffy-haired trans best friend myself.
vance : *lifts finney by the collar*
vance : i've only had finney for a day and a half, but if anything happens to him i will kill everyone in this room and then myself.
