Here’s the text of Josh’s portion of the USA Today article:
Joshua Rush, who played Cyrus Goodman on “Andi Mack,” says he is “constantly reminded” of the moving impact that Goodman’s coming out had on queer viewers.
“(Having) role models that kids can see on television and characters that kids are able to look up to gives them a toolkit that they can carry around in their everyday life when they do come into some of these frustrating, scary or morally conflicting positions themselves,” Rush says.
But Rush says a crucial element in the continued success of queer youth television is industry support of screenwriters, many of whom went on strike in May.
“None of those words that came out of my mouth were my own words,” Rush says. “If you want more queer representation in media, then you have got to be on the side of the writers. … The writers were always fighting for the representation.”

in the show there's this thing were if a character looks back to someone while they're leaving it means they have a crush on them. so they had a scene were tj looked back towards were buffy was, but then it was revealed he was gay and in love with buffy's best friend who was standing right next to her in that scene

they were really cute together and all their flirty build up actually had me, a known dyke, kind of rooting for them and then halfway through the show right in what's about to be a makeout scene they reveal he's gay lmfao. then they sleep together (platonically on different side of the covers) in his houseboat. iconic and i'm not mad about it but it was SO clearly calibrated to be straightbait and switch it was so funny like the cameras were WORKING for those lingering shots
ellie chu and paul munsky:
Classic set-up where they start off as strangers and become really close. He even has a crush on her!
note: ellie is canonically a lesbian, so there's also a bait and switch element to this one
joseph cooper and amelia brand:
These two are explicitly set up as the male and female leads of the movie and shown to have a close relationship with each other, one where in any other movie I would have expected them to end up together by the end of the movie, especially since one of the central themes of Interstellar is love as a force that can change the universe. However, the two do not get together by the end of the movie and there is never any explicitly romantic scene between them.
travis touchdown and sylvia christel:
in the first game travis spends the entire game trying to get with sylvia (HE FAILS MISERABLY) and inbetween the sequel and the spin-off they get married, have kids, you know the drill HOWEVER COMMA in that same period of time travis runs away from said family and later moves in with a man. So.

AM Rewatch S1, E3 Thoughts
Honestly “Shh!” was the first real example of this show not quite figuring out what it wanted to be.
Lol @ Me doing mental math to figure out how old Bex is based on “Brittany’s” age.
I still headcanon that she found out she was pregnant the summer after highschool(pushed Bowie away to do his post-HS tour around that time so his life wouldn’t be ruined too), and had her baby during what would have been her freshman year of college. If nothing else bc Cece said the line “so you can still go to school” during “Mama”.
That would make her approximately 32, and 19-ish when she had Andi.
We stan (1) overprepared gay boy. Cyrus Goodman, always going above and beyond. [Also I went to school to basically do what he did—except with more science, so I extra stan]
Andi got detention, the beginning of her life of crime.
Also I’m OBSESSED WITH ANDI’S BACKPACK
Cryus’ crush was honestly so obvious looking back
I miss unproblematic/supportive Jonah Beck. JB I love you, but I’m also constantly annoyed with you.
BUFFY’s GROWN SO MUCH. And honestly, Buffy is the best representation/most accurate of a female athlete that Disney channel has ever had. Which honestly is the most motivating thing that kept me watching this show, bc I craved that sort of representation that doesn’t exist on any TV show really.
Cyrus:“The Protein Preteen” Ugh, yes, what an icon.
“You think you can still call me grandma after knowing I wore these[the bikini]” Cece’s a legend, and was probably super chill in the 70′s.
