it sucks that if stl doesn't get a s2 many anime onlys won't get to experience the shift from (even though engaging and emotional) light hearted slice of life to like... in depth character study that makes you wanna climb walls. if that makes sense
#ofc sukirofa has been a character driven story since the start and ofc we still get chapters like the early ones here and there#but i think the overall vibe definitely changed after the cultural festival arc#and ESPECIALLY after chapter 46#or is that just my impression bc i've been in the trenches for too long#no i think that now even chapters that are pretty chill hit harder than the early ones lol#arcs like the cultural festival or even makoto's date which came later are like. just a preview of takamatsu's abilities as a storyteller#anyway it's funny that i still see people calling it a romcom. to me it's been a drama for the last 30 chapters. a thriller even#joking#or am i#i need every person who watched the anime and still hasn't read the manga to get into it nowwww#like a lot of people still don't know warm picnic!!!!!!!!! i need to change that.

Saw some of the grossest parenting today in the bus
#this dad was on his phone the whole bus ride ok#and his two kids were screaming arguing#at most he would periodically tell them to lower their voice while still on his phone#one time he told them to stop the one sitting next to him hit him 😭 and he went back to look at his phone with no reaction#my guy something is seriously wrong with you#your kids are screaming at each other doesn't even matter all that much that we are in the bus rn#theyre not just being loud kids you need to do smt!!!!!! its too early for this!!! i could hear them even with my noise cancelling headphone#anyways#ive never seen smt like this#and i work in a mall i see lots of parents and kids#idk smt really disgusting about a parent just not even interested in engaging with their kids#dude no wonder they're loud they probably want ur attention#also this one lady once who came in wjth a big stroller#and the store where i work has little moving rooms between the aisle so this woman decided TO LEAVE THE STROLLER WITH A KID INSIDE AT THE#FRONT OF THE STORE#the kids started crying and his hrother (toddler not in the stroller but not following the mom for some reason) started exploring and i#i had to watch them until the mom came back but like the woman just left them there???#i just stepped in but what if i hadnt??? lady?????????#i see lots of cute interactions of course#like this little girl who came with who i think is her grandpa and he asked me to help her chose her next manga read 😭💖#i basically work in a book/toy store#theres a lot of candy as well the kids love it#idk i like seeing kids being happy ok it is healing#like all the kids sitting on the floors deep in their books while the parents shop 😭😭😭 makes me smile every time top tier behavior

Listen I'm not gonna pretend that the 2010s-2020s don't have plenty of bodyshaming unpleasantness of their own, but if anyone starts reviving the PARTICULAR brand of fatphobia that ruled the early 2000s to try and fuck up the body image/relationships with food of the little girls of today like they did with the little girls back then, I'm killing them with my bare hands.

confession: look, on the one hand, I like Spider, I do. He’s an interesting character and I agree that the hate he gets in some corners of the fandom is absolutely ridiculous. He’s not a backstabber or villainous or a flip-flopper or whatever other bullcrap, he’s an orphan kid in an alien world trying to find somewhere to belong, the hate is silly.
but.
I’m growing equally tired of seeing posts with an attitude of trying to guilt-trip people for not viewing him as a member of the Sully family. Canonically, he simply isn’t (sorry, but the movie directly, explicitly stating “he wasn’t part of our family” outweighs concept art with an “unofficial adoption” songcord bead).
The Sully family is very personally meaningful to me right now, so naturally I want to focus my energy on them. Spider is of course a close friend of the family, so sometimes he will be included just like Norm or other characters are sometimes included, but I’m not going to go out of my way to shove him in every single time...and quite frankly, the more I see folks acting like it’s somehow problematic to not consider Spider a member of the Sully family (which again canonically he isn’t), the less I want to do stuff that includes him :/
#and again it's not because i have anything against Spider himself#i'm just tired of being coerced into considering him a Sully when he isn't#like. back last year before the movie came out we all THOUGHT Jake and Neytiri raised Spider due to misreporting in an article#and I was fine with considering him part of the family because I thought that was canon#hence some of my very early art where he is depicted as officially adopted#BUT then the comics and later the movie came out and showed that the article was mistaken#jake and neytiri didn't adopt or raise him (nor were they obligated to but that's a topic for another post)#he was just a close friend of the family; particularly kiri and lo'ak#so now i don't consider or depict him as a member of the family...because turns out he isn't#and yes i acknowledge that in future movies he might well get officially taken into the family#in fact at the moment I'd say that's pretty likely#and i'm fine with that!#but most of my work focuses on the time between a1 and a2 when the kids were still young so#whether or not spider gets taken in post-wow is kinda irrelevant to it :P#-whew- sorry this has been brewin' for a while#spider socorro#sully family
