Fun fact about us! We have precisely No filter for "how much gore is too much gore", because we just... don't get squeamish about it almost at all.
Part of this effect is that we spend ages waffling over how to tag things because we just... don't have a point of comparison for things, and trying to find them results in us running into a lot of stuff we wouldn't consider gory at all being tagged as gore. We'll sit there like "this is a skeleton! this is bones!" and we'll feel like it must be, like, overtagged "just to be safe" type stuff, because, well, it's not gore, it's just a skeleton arm! Maybe a cartoony cross-section! It doesn't read as gore, it just reads as, like, cool character design to cartoon violence.
Part of this is that we'll click on things with "MAJOR GORE SUPER UNSETTLING CLICK AT YOUR OWN RISK" and end up just... underwhelmed. Like, we know in theory that we have a much better gore tolerance than most people, but in practice, like. It's utterly baffling to us that people will be that sensitive over blood. It's just, like... you're calling this "major gore"? It's one arm with a slightly messy disconnect! Like, sure, put a gore warning on it, but we expected more than just one slightly messy arm! They barely even look anything more than surprised about it!
#the lines get even blurrier with writing like. what on earth counts as major gore??? how hard does an author have to go to get into there??#does blood count? how many physical descriptions make it count while we're describing an injury? we're trying to sell the wound here#and we have no damned clue what the hell and fuck people call “gore” out here#the perception of gore that goes into tagging it is beyond any comprehension we've got we're afraid#necessary note for this: we have prior experience working at a veterinary clinic and have had perhaps a few too many hospital visits#and we are of the flavor of person that is also completely blindsided on a regular basis by what people consider inappropriate#every day we discover a new think of the children argument and every day we have literally no idea what they're talking about#for it to be considered major gore for us it has to have at least a bit of gristle to it and its gotta at least TRY to sell the impact#like. its not major if its just a clean circle with a bone in the middle and some blood slapped on top#its not major if the wound just cleanly removes a slice with no meaty bits or bloody bits#flesh is messy! if youre going for gory stuff then you have to pay at least a bit of mind to the little gristly bits!#we're sorry but the impossibly clean anime cut that people use for like. gashes and scars and whatever just... isnt that graphic#we are certain that this is a complaint that maybe like three people have had but if ur working with mammals n such like#it honestly just feels cartoony to have a gut spill going on. YKINMKATOK we just dont understand how its treated#theres membranes! theres connections! your guts arent gonna just spill out loosey-goosey the second u get an abdominal wound!#we all love a good like. “hobbling around trying to keep your insides in” scene ofc#but its very clear that some of you people dont even know how butchering a pig works#my posts

Non-Sequential [Ch. 23]
Pairing: Pre-Serum Steve Rogers/Steve Rogers x Reader
One night, Steve Rogers met a beautiful dame named Y/N. He hadn’t intended on letting her get away. But fate had other ideas. Y/N appeared and disappeared in his life so hauntingly that Steve started to wonder if she was an angel meant to watch over him.
Word Count: 2,200
Chapter 22
Tumblr media
“Hello?” Y/N answered as she glanced behind at Bucky’s hut. There was a part of her that didn’t fully believe Steve was on the other end of the phone call. After all, she had nothing but silence from him when she first got to Wakanda.
“Y/N? Oh, thank God.” Steve immediately sighed in relief.
“Hi, Steve.” Hearing his voice eased in a way she wasn’t expecting.
“Shuri got me a message. Are you alright?”
‘Shuri got him a message,’ as in she told Steve she had traveled again.
“I’m fine,” Y/N muttered. Yes, physically she was fine. But emotionally and mentally she was still shaken.
There was a beat of silence.
“Want to talk about it?” He asked carefully.
Y/N sighed. Did she actually want to tell him?
“How about when you get back?” She offered and her face twisted into a wince even though she knew no one could see it.
“I can live with that,” he answered.
She blinked. “When will that be?”
“Couple a days. I promise.”
Y/N nodded her head and then realized Steve couldn’t see her. “Where are you?”
“I – I’m sorry, Y/N. I can’t tell you. It’s best if you don’t know anything. The line’s supposed to be secure, but I just – I want to keep you out of my mess.”
“I get it,” she muttered, barely audible.
Steve sighed on the other end. “I’ll be back soon, Y/N. I promise.”
Y/N nodded, forgetting that he couldn’t see it.
There was a moment of silence on the call
“You’re not OK, are you?” Steve challenged.
Y/N’s eyes filled with tears and her bottom lip trembled. “No,” she blurted out.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I should be there.” Even though she couldn’t see him, Y/N knew his head was hanging with disappointment and guilt. “Damn it. I need–I should be there,” he repeated.
“It’s OK, Steve. I’m-I’m with Bucky.”
Then she wondered if that would even give him comfort.
“That’s-That’s good,” Steve answered.
He knew Bucky would look after her. Hell, he was looking after when Steve had been acting like a complete and utter fool.
But there was also a weird, ugly feeling in the pit of his stomach. He refused to analyze it or even acknowledge it. But it was still there. And he hated it.
“Y/N,” even the way he said her name was filled with disappointment, “I gotta go.”
“Mhmm,” she hummed back, trying not to let her emotions all slip out at once and worry him even more. “Do you want to talk to Bucky?” After all, it was his phone that Steve called.
“No,” Steve answered too quickly, too bitingly. “No,” he said again, softer this time, correcting himself. “I’ll talk to him when I get back.”
“Umm…OK.” Y/N was confused by his reaction.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
“I-I love you too, Steve.”
——————————
Steve kept his promise, returning in the middle of the night just 36 hours after he got off the phone with Y/N.
He was put into an immediate panic when he returned to his room to find that Y/N was not sleeping soundly in his bed. He became even more panicked when she was nowhere to be found in her own personal suite either.
Eventually, Steve ran into a royal guard in the hallway.
“Y/N,” He blurted out like some crazy person. “Shuri told me she would contact me any time Y/N traveled while I was gone. I can’t find her anywhere, but Shuri didn’t tell me.”
The guard seemed confused, but patiently listened. Of course not everyone in the palace knew Y/N or Steve, or the personal and complicated situation that Steve was trying to explain.
“I-I am sorry, Captain Rogers, but I do not know what you speak of. I can wake Princess Shuri or King T’Challa if you–”
“No. No, please, there’s no need for that,” Steve quickly shut that down. But he ran a hand throw his shaggy hair, making it clear that his distress was still strong.
“It is the other guest you are looking for?” The guard asked softly.
Steve nodded.
“Perhaps you will find her at the White Wolf’s home.”
Steve’s brow furrowed. “White Wolf?”
The guard nodded. “Your friend. Sergeant Barnes.”
Steve’s jaw clenched. First, out of stupidity. Of course she was with Bucky. Why hadn’t he immediately gone there instead of bringing poor guards into his anxiety? Second, that terrible and ugly feeling found its way back into his gut.
“Thank you,” he told the guard before rushing out of the palace.
Steve made it to the outskirts, where Bucky’s hut resided, in record time.
Without thinking about the ungodly hour, Steve’s fist tapped on the door of Bucky’s hut.
He didn’t hear movement on the other side, which wouldn’t be surprising since Bucky moved like a snake, unable to shake his assassin training.
The door started unlocking.
Steve expected to find Bucky disheveled with sleepy eyes. But it was clear that super soldier hadn’t been sleeping when Steve knocked on his door.
“Steve, you’re back,” Bucky commented with a lightness.
“Is Y/N here?” Steve asked, not meaning to skip the pleasantries and sound rude.
The question made Bucky shift his weight. “Yeah. Yeah, she’s here.” Then he opened the door wider and gestured for him to come in.
Steve quickly looked for Y/N to be awake somewhere in the hut. Instead, he found her fast asleep… in Bucky’s bed.
Bucky immediately saw what the situation could be misinterpreted as and cleared his throat. “She hasn’t been sleeping well… so she’s been here.” His voice was quiet, making sure he didn’t wake Y/N. Steve ignored Bucky, his eyes never leaving Y/N. He slowly walked forward until he was at the edge of the bed. Upon closer look, Steve realized that she was wearing one of his own t-shirts. One of the few he had since being on the run, which mean it was fraying and littered with holes here and there.
Steve gave a soft smile, finally relieved to see for himself that she was in the present, that she was – for the most part – ok.
He reached forward and brushed hair out of her face, placing it gently behind her ear.
Even in her sleep, Y/N sensed him. She sighed dreamily from just a whisper of his touch.
Steve then leaned back and finally turned his attention back to Bucky.
“Can we talk?” Then he looked at the door. “Outside,” he clarified.
Bucky winced even though Steve’s tone couldn’t have been more tranquil.
Both men gave one last glance at Y/N before shuffling out.
Bucky walked a few paces behind Steve, who didn’t stop walking until they were under the giant marula tree that was planted 50 yards from his hut.
Bucky waited patiently for Steve to speak first. But he seemed too lost in his head to begin.
Steve’s hands were on his hips as he stared into the darkness that surrounded them.
“You kissed her.”
Bucky’s eyes widened. “No, Steve, nothing happened. I wouldn’t–I’d never do that. To either of you. I swear she’s just been sleeping here. She didn’t want to be alone.”
Steve finally looked him in the eye. “That’s not what I’m talking about.”
“The day you fell from the train,” Steve continued. “You kissed her. She tried to get you to stay. Tried to do anything that would stop you from getting on that train. And you kissed her.”
Bucky was blindsided. “She-She told you about that?”
“Was she not supposed to?” Steve challenged with a fire in his eyes.
Bucky had seen it in Steve’s eyes before, but it had never been directed at him. Not even when they fought and he’d tried to kill him as the Winter Soldier.
“No. I mean, yes! Shit.” He shook his head at the fumbling of his words. “What I’m trying to say is that she has the right to tell you anything she wants.” Bucky cringed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“You were always the one to get the girls,” Steve thought aloud. Then he even smiled. “I made a joke of it when she first told me. She thought I’d hate her. Pretty sure she was convinced it would be the thing that broke us up.”
“I almost didn’t think anything of it. Back then, you were in love with another girl every week. Every time, no matter what, you were convinced they were the one.” Steve’s jaw clenched as he turned to Bucky again. “But then, without fail, you’d be on to the next girl as if the last one never even existed.”
Bucky wait for him to continue. He was smart enough to know that this wasn’t his time to talk. So he just had to stand there and take it.
“It didn’t bother me. I never planned to even bring it up.” Steve sighed. “But then I realized how you treated Y/N the opposite of all them. She wasn’t just the flavor of the week. She had stood the test of time. But it’s not time, is it?” Steve waited a moment. He had to find the courage to finally say what had been eating away at him. “You’re in love with her.”
Bucky’s face was pained. There were no words. He couldn’t lie and tell Steve was wrong. But he was also too much of a coward to admit to the truth.
But he owed his best friend something.
“Steve…Steve, I’m sorry.” He felt sick.
But Bucky was met with silence.
“Steve, please do something,” he begged.
“Do what?” He demanded.
“Hit me! Cuss me out! Tell me that you hate me!”
Steve took a step forward. “Hit you? Hate you?” Even saying the words aloud didn’t make it easier for his mind to wrap around them. How could he ever do either of those things? “You think I brought this up because I want to hurt you?”
“It’s what I deserve,” Bucky mumbled.
Steve shook his head. “The most ridiculous part is that I can’t even blame you. Because I know you love everything about her that I love.”
“I didn’t mean for this to happen, Steve. I tried not – damnit! Do you know what it feels like to be in love with your best friend’s girl? I hate myself for it. I never wanted you to know. I tried my god damned hardest to keep it a secret.”
“Haven't you learned by now that you and I can’t keep secrets from each other?”
Bucky chuckled darkly at the comment. He ran his hand through his hair. “Well, if you’re not going to punch me… why did you bring it up then?”
“I don’t know.” Steve lowered his head. “I guess…I guess my jealousy finally made me snap.”
“Jealousy?” Bucky repeated with bewilderment. “Did you forget that you’re the one who already won the girl?”
“I messed up, Buck. I pushed her away. Left her here all alone. She almost died and I wasn’t there for her. But you were. And when I’m gone, you’re the one she goes to.” He sighed. “And as much as I hate to admit it, I still feel like that scrawny kid who was invisible to women. The women that were always falling for you.” He eyed Bucky with sadness. “What’s stopping Y/N from doing the same?”
“The fact that she’s in love with you, Steve.” Bucky answered immediately.
Before Steve could answer, the door of the hut opened.
Both men’s head whipped in the direction of the sound.
Y/N tiptoed out with a blanket wrapped around her.
Her eyes squinted, trying to adjust to the darkness. But even in the Wakandan night, she recognized Steve’s silhouette.
“Steve?” She gasped.
Then she was running to him.
He tried to meet her, taking quick steps to shorten the distance.
Then she flung herself into his arms. Steve gripped her tightly, lifting her off of her feet. Her face was buried into his shoulder as he rubbed her back in comfort.
They stayed like that for a moment of two.
Bucky had no choice but to witness their love.
When Steve finally set her down, Y/N took in the scene she’d interrupted.
“What’s going on?” She whispered worriedly. “What’s happened?”
Bucky looked to Steve, letting him navigate the situation.
“Nothing. Everything’s fine. I just came to take you back to the palace with me.” He kissed her lips. “I missed you,” he sighed.
“OK…” Y/N gave him a shy smile, believing his words.
Steve held her hand and started leading her back up the hill.
Y/N only got a few steps before she paused. Steve looked at her questioningly. Then she turned and hurried back to Bucky.
Steve stood and watched as he heard Y/N whisper a ‘thank you’ and give him a warm hug. Bucky made eye contact with him as he met her embrace.
No, there was no way Bucky could’ve stopped himself from falling in love with Y/N.
She made that damn near impossible.

CHAPTER 24
I don’t know how it happened, maybe it was the long weekend or whatever, but I found myself both motivated and inspired. Honestly, it might’ve been because I watched the new Little Women and Jo beat some sense into me lol.
For the 3 people still reading this, I’d love to hear from you.

Becoming || Shiloh & Athena
TIMING: July 14th, during the carnival (apologies for delay!) PARTIES: @evanescentform and @athenaquinn SUMMARY: Athena and Shiloh have a day out at the carnival. Athena gets curious. Some questions are answered, others only spark greater curiosity...
Shiloh was lucky that she managed to come home back in time for the surprise carnival. Before she just thought it was something that people in town did overnight but now that she was aware of the supernatural… she figured it probably had something to do with that. Although, trying to figure out what exactly could create a carnival in one night was far more difficult to wrap her head around than just assuming it was the work of a lot of talented people. Nonetheless, she tried not to let thoughts of the supernatural ruin her excitement of the carnival. After all, there was no other place you could get carnival food except for at a carnival. The rides and games were fun to take part in as well but it wasn’t her favorite thing about it. She wondered what Athena’s favorite part of the carnival was. Shiloh was interested in exploring more than what she had in years prior. They tended to change a booth here and there but she was sure there could be something that had been there before that Shiloh had yet to notice. While she didn’t know Athena very well, she seemed like a nice girl and what better place to get to know someone than at a carnival! There might be more normal ways but everyone knew this town wasn’t normal and you can’t really have awkward pauses in conversations when there’s so much to do! Shiloh waited for Athena by the entrance. She could only hope she’d be visible throughout the fog. She’d made sure she wore a noticeable color - red - and had mentioned it to Athena prior to heading over. Shiloh glanced at her phone, awaiting a message that might speak of Athena’s arrival.
She knew that Shiloh wasn’t fae, but there was something about the other girl that gave Athena pause. Which meant she had to experiment more. There was always the chance that she was completely human, but Athena had to wonder - and she wasn’t about to get blindsided again by anything. Despite the rather traumatizing experience she’d had at the carnival with Winston, she was willing to return. Especially if it got her any sort of answers. She’d slid on more rings onto her fingers - the last time they met she hadn’t managed to give Shiloh’s skin a proper test and so she wasn’t going to pass up a chance this time. She decided to match the color of Shiloh’s shirt - red - because why not? She looked good in red, especially when she added a bit of color to her lips and drove over to where the carnival was, finding parking without too much trouble and she quickly made her way over to the entrance. “Hi, Shiloh!” She grinned, waving to the other girl. “Got anything you’d like to do? I’m down for anything but the drop ride. That one,” showed me the one thing in the world I can’t deal with, “made me sick last time. I’m willing to try anything else you fancy, though.” She flinched for a moment, the feeling of fae close by. Not Shiloh though, but that was something else she’d have to keep an eye out for. Something that Winston had distracted her from last time.
It was nice to see the other girl as happy as she was to spend time at the carnival. Given Shiloh’s recent supernatural awakening, it had been hard to enjoy things without feeling like there was a supernatural undertone to it. She enjoyed the carnival before and she would enjoy it now. Albeit, she’ll be a bit more careful around certain things. Shiloh didn’t know around what but she could only hope her gut would tell her what to avoid. “Oh man that must have been horrible.” Shiloh winced, only able to imagine how terrible it would be to get sick off a ride. “I do feel odd after some of the rides too if I’m being honest. I think that’s why I generally steer clear of them.” Maybe she was just.. older and not into the thrill of them. “The ferris wheel is one I enjoy though,” she said putting a hand to her chest. “It’s real tame unless you don’t like heights. Which I’d understand if you didn’t,” she said, glancing back to Athena as she started to walk into the carnival. “Oh! The games are fun too. Sure, people say they’re rigged but I really enjoy the games. I don’t mind if I lose but I have to be careful not to blow all my money on them. They’re kind of addicting.”
“Needless to say, not something I’d be keen to repeat ever. So we’ll just avoid it, easy-peasy.” Athena gave a small shrug. She was going to have to keep her voice and mannerisms upbeat if she didn’t want Shiloh to go running. Not before she figured a bit more out about her companion. Which shouldn’t be too hard - she’d had years of experience. “Oh gee, I know, right?” She quipped, “I mean, I’m not even twenty-one, but I feel you! Some rides just leave you feeling funny. We could start by seeing what snacks they have?” She grinned at the other girl. “Even if we don’t get anything at first. I forget, do you have any allergies? I'm allergic to tree nuts which isn’t super fun but I manage well enough. I know some people who are allergic to far less common things, so I always like to check before I offer food. You know, best behavior, right?” She hop-skipped a few paces forward before turning back to face Shiloh. “What do you say?”
“I completely understand. I wouldn’t make you go through it again, don’t worry.” Shiloh was curious as to what might have happened but knew she was in no position to ask or press further about it. She didn’t know Athena that well after all and even if she did, people deserved to have their own secrets and privacy. “Oh, yeah, snacks are fine with me.” Shiloh preferred to get rides out of the way before eating just in case but she doubted either of them were interested in the kind of rides that would get you nauseous anyway. “Oh no, I’m not allergic to anything.” At least nothing Shiloh had ever noticed before. “I don’t eat too much red meat but that’s just a personal preference rather than an allergy.” She smiled though, at the thought of Skylar and her preference for meat. She almost voiced that to Athena but then thought against it. “I really like sweets. It’s a serious problem.” She admitted with a chuckle.
“I appreciate that,” Athena grinned. “Plus, I heard it had faulty wiring to boot, which is something that they really ought to regulate more thoroughly!” Of course, it had broken thanks to Winston’s quick thinking but she was absolutely not about to mention anything to do with their magic to anybody else. “Good to hear about the allergies! I also don’t always eat red meat - not vegetarian though, but I know folks who are. My Big, for one. Actually, she’s vegan. Which means I have to make sure I don’t make her anything with animal products. Which means I can’t do anything like spanakopita, but what are you going to do, right?” She giggled. “Sweets? What sorts? I’m not always into them, but sometimes they just hit the spot. There’s a stand that sells slush here, if you like that!”
Shiloh had to think for a moment by what she meant as “Big” but recalled American sororities and fraternities. She wasn’t in one, but she had made some acquaintances in those circles. “Uh, what’s spanakopita?” She voiced the word slowly, not sure how to pronounce it as rapidly as Athena had. Just by the name alone she was thinking it was something eastern european which was interesting, she didn’t know Athena was eastern european. “I like pastries a lot. I’m a real sucker for those,” Shiloh admitted. “I bake from time to time and I’m always in trouble for it because I always bake too much.” She chuckled and then her eyes lit up at the thought of a slushee. “Oh yeah! I’ve had one from there before I didn’t know it came back this year. We should definitely get a slushee, it’s kind of warm tonight.” It might have been the fog that added to the uncomfortable sensation but she was sure a nice cold slush would be fantastic.
“It’s a dish from Greece. Sort of a savory pastry kinda deal. It’s made with filo dough which is the super thin almost crinkly dough. It’s amazing.” Athena shrugged. “I learned how to make it on a whim almost a decade ago when I was in elementary school and it stuck. She flashed a grin toward Shiloh. “Well hey, you can’t go wrong with that. I bake too! What do you like to bake? For sweets I’ve just about perfected a macaron recipe and, well, cupcakes are always a good go-to.” She continued to walk toward the slush stand, giving a quick nod. “Oh, you bet it did! It is warm and therefore we should absolutely get some slushes. Besides, they’re not too heavy so we can do that and go on a ride or whatever and then get more food if we feel like it.” She found the slush stand and ordered a cherry-lemon mix before turning to let Shiloh order. “I’ll pay, my treat.” Her hand found a tiny bottle of silver solution in her purse. When she got her slush she turned away for a moment, dropping it in before giving a small mix and holding out the spoon to Shiloh. “You’ve gotta try this mix before I do! It’s to die for.”
“They taught you that in elementary school? Wow.” Shiloh wouldn’t have expected that. “Oh it’s mainly scones. I love making scones and cakes. Lemon and blueberry are my go to flavors. I’ve made some pie as well but I generally do that during the holidays so I’m not too practiced on that so I just stick to my cakes.” She chuckled at that, knowing she wasn’t that great when it came to baking so she stuck to what she knew but that wasn’t to say she wouldn’t mind expanding her knowledge. Maybe she and Athena could share some recipes. That’d be really fun, she was always interested in learning more about recipes other than the British ones she gravitated toward. As she ordered her blue raspberry slush, she thanked Athena for paying for it. She reached out to take hers when Athena was urging her to try her cherry lemon mix. “Oh, alright,” she laughed softly before taking a taste from the spoon. The taste was definitely something new, enjoyable but not better than her blue raspberry - although she wasn’t going to be rude and say that. “Hey, that is pretty good!” She smacked her lips, finding an unusual aftertaste but just figured artificial flavoring did that and thought nothing of it. She quickly took to her own slush to mask the taste.
“No, I taught myself.” Athena fiddled with her shirt. “Sorry, usually I’m better and more precise with my words.” She grinned at the mention of Shiloh’s baking. “That sounds great! I’ve made scones before. Maple, because when you’re in this part of the Northeast it’s sort of a must-do. Also blueberry, ‘cause Maine’s got some killer blueberries to have.” If Shiloh proved herself human, maybe the two of them could get together to do some sort of baking sometime. Not until she had her mind settled about whatever felt off about Shiloh. It might’ve been nothing, and none of her senses were going off, but it also never hurt to be sure. Shiloh accepted Athena’s offer of slush and when she was quiet Athena frowned for a moment before giving a shrug. She hadn’t thought that she was a werewolf, not properly. The rings had never done anything. “It is at least refreshing. Have you ever made homemade sorbet? That is lovely, if a bit heavier than this.” She began to walk away from the booth, slush in her hand. “Remind me, how long have you lived here?” She glanced over her shoulder to the other woman.
“Maple, really?” Shiloh asked, not having heard of that being a thing but then again it wasn’t as if she was entirely knowledgeable about the area to begin with. “Lemon blueberry is so good.” Shiloh preferred the tartness and sweetness that came with it. Although she knew some people didn’t enjoy lemon desserts. “You have to let me try some of your maple scones - I’m sure they’re great.” Shiloh said with a smile, hopeful that they would have to hang out and bake together next time. She drank from her slush as Athena spoke, listening. “I’ve never made sorbet, no. I’m guessing you have?” Was it similar to making ice cream? Shiloh hadn’t ever put much thought into sorbet other than how good it is when she’s eating it. “Oh, I’ve been here for like five years now?” She looked up as she scrunched her face in thought. “Yeah, about that long.” She ended with a shrug of her shoulders. “Were you born here? I feel like I’ve asked you that question before so I’m sorry if you’re just repeating yourself.”
“Maple-glaze, or maple-chips, yep!” Athena gave a small nod. “Lemon blueberry does sound good. I made a lemon raspberry cake not too long ago.” For Ariana, but Athena wasn’t about to focus on that right now. “Lemon as a flavor is excellent. It makes things taste nice, almost more refreshing somehow.” She gave a quick nod, “for sure, next time I make them.” Athena continued to watch Shiloh curiously, observing her movements, if she reacted to anything in any sort of odd way. She was eating her slush which continued to remove the likelihood of her being certain species. “I have! It’s super easy, it’s frozen fruit, sugar, water, and a food processor or blender. It’s super easy and fun to experiment with different fruits.” Athena took another scoop of her slush as she listened to Shiloh. “That’s quite a bit of time. What made you come here? Oh - yeah, I’ve lived here my whole life! No worries about if I’m repeating myself, I’m happy to answer your questions. I know lots about this town. I love it here. Though perhaps some day I would like to see other parts of the world, this town has done quite well as far as a place to grow up. Even if I don’t get a super cool accent like you.”
“Mmm,” Shiloh hummed as she had her slush still in her mouth as Athena mentioned maple chips  and lemon raspberry cake. Boy, would she want some right now. Although, they probably didn’t have anything like that at the carnival, but they would have something that was tasty nonetheless. “Making sorbet does sound pretty simple. Do you have a favorite fruit to make it with?” Shiloh tried to think what her favorite fruit would be… probably peach. Or maybe watermelon? So many good fruits, how could you just pick one? Her attention went back to Athena, hearing her talk about eventually wanting to travel to other parts and her memory did recall Athena mentioning that bit. “You should travel. There’s a lot to see! I still want to do some traveling myself but…” She pursed her lips as she thought of her parents. “My parents are getting older and the town… I don’t really like the idea of leaving them alone. My father’s close to retirement and someone has to help run the business.” She swirled the ice in her cup as she shrugged. “Oh--that’s what made us come here too. My mother had an estranged uncle of sorts that owned Trusty Wood. He died and his sister, my grandmother was set to inherit but she passed so it went to my mother.”
“It is simple! Oh, I love a good raspberry. I think that’s a solid classic to work with, honestly.” Athena grinned. “It’s sort of hard to choose, I like so many different fruits. Though I don’t think I’d make grape sorbet. Not sure I’ve ever seen frozen grapes, for one, and I’m just not sure how that’d work out in the end. Grapes on their own are just fine by me, though.” At Shiloh’s mention of travel Athena gave a small shrug. “Maybe someday. There is a lot to see in the world. I’ve seen pictures though! So it’s not all lost on me!” She scrunched up her nose. In another life, she’d be at Yale now, or Stanford, or even a place like Bates. She didn’t regret where her life made her stay. Being in town, helping the people, was more important than a nice college name on her transcript. “That makes sense!” Her nod was perhaps a tad too emphatic, but she meant well. So long as Shiloh’s parents were human, that was. “You’re woodworker? I think I remember that. I know someone else,” I don’t know if we’re still friends, “who’s, like, super duper handy at woodwork. It’s so neat that you get to keep it all in the family. I can appreciate someone else who values family as much as I do.”
“Grape sorbet does seem like it might take some artificial flavoring. I do enjoy things that are grape-flavored though. Like candy and drinks.” Shiloh tried to think of a time where she had something like grape ice cream - frozen grape juice, yes but actual ice cream was another thing. Hm.. that was something to look up when she was bored. She looked over at Athena unable to take her seriously that seeing pictures was good enough in any way. “Pictures are nice, beautiful even but it’s nothing like actually being there, I can assure you.” However, maybe Athena had similar reasons not to travel, preferring to be with her family or… having to be close by to them. Shiloh felt like that for the longest and just when she thought she got over it, she was brought back to them again. “Oh yeah, I am. And do you? I probably know them too. It’s a small town we kinda all know each other.” She chuckled, wondering who it might be. Athena was young so it couldn’t be any of the older men they had. Maybe one of the younger guys? She thought about it. “Yeah… yeah,” Shiloh nodded, dropping her glance. “Family’s… important. They’re all we have, y’know? Outside of when we start our own family.” But when was that going to happen for Shiloh’s case? She sighed, glancing up and catching sight of a booth about crystals and witchcraft. “Do you believe in that stuff?” Shiloh asked, nodding her head towards it.
“I figure they can be good sometimes. Never really my speed, but I’ve got some sisters in my sorority who adore grape-flavored items of all sorts.” Athena explained. She hoped that Shiloh wasn’t some terrible supernatural being, because from every encounter that they’d had so far, she found the other woman’s company enjoyable. “I suppose so.” She bit her lip. She wanted to travel - the feeling was almost desperate sometimes. To travel anywhere - certainly to other supernatural hotspots but also just to see somewhere else. Even somewhere like Boston - not too far away, but still almost too much to do. Or at least too much as far as her parents believed. “I do. Ariana?” Was she even still a friend? The two knew one another, that much was true. “We coach soccer camp together.” That much was true. “This is a small town, it’s always super wild to see all the ways people are connected to one another.” At the mention of family Athena nodded, a small smile crossing her face. “Family is everything.” However, before much more could be discussed on that subject, Shiloh was pointing out a booth clearly designed to at least appear to be involved with witchcraft. “Hmm?” Athena glanced over. “Oh, well, I mean, weird stuff does happen in this town. Sometimes you just can’t explain it!” Or most people can’t, or find a way around it, anyhow. She eyed Shiloh carefully. “Do you?”
“Oh, Ariana?” Shiloh didn’t need to ask for a last name to know who it was. “She’s doing her apprenticeship under me.” Shiloh smiled, happy to hear about her outside of the apprenticeship. She didn’t really know about her outside of it but it didn’t help that Shiloh knew to keep things short considering the anxiety she gets during it all. Speaking of anxiety… Shiloh glanced at the table once more until they walked by it. “Yeah, there’s some weird things in town, you’re right.” Her lips pursed in thought. She knew better than to just tell people what she has seen. Either way, it was a lot to unpack. “I don’t know,” she shrugged, not really wanting to talk about it. Shiloh enjoyed when things were normal and when they weren’t while she tried to understand she feared she might never fully understand this world and that made her uncomfortable. Letting out a sigh she looked over at Athena wondering what she thought. “Some things have a rational explanation we don’t know yet, right?” Scratching at her head she still had to admit, “this town still leaves a lot to explain. Some people feel really strongly about the unknown.” She let out a nervous chuckle, unsure how Athena saw it.
“Yes.” Athena shuffled her feet. Not that she didn’t want to talk about Ariana - but things were a lot more complicated than they used to be. On both sides, she reminded herself. Even if it felt weird - even if it was all still incredibly confusing to her. “That’s great! She’s super.” Athena felt her cheeks flush for a moment and cursed herself. “Tell me about it. Lived here my whole life, you’d think this’d be all typical now - and yet… it’s not.” So that was a complete lie, but unlike the beings she adored hunting most of all, she had that capability in spades. “Some things do, you’re right. Some people do feel real strong about that, you bet.” She felt a shiver run through her body. She’d known fae were at the fair - that much was true without a doubt - the natural chaos of this sort of place provided allowed their kind to thrive. “Sorry.” She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, focusing her breath. “Sometimes I just get distracted. Goodness knows that’s part of why my parents got me into sports. Always wanting to move, you know?”
It was nice to meet a friend of Ariana’s - if Shiloh remembered, she’d bring it up next time they spoke. “My parents think most things have their reasonable explanations so really they’re not put off by what happens. That’s not to say it’s not sad when someone we know goes missing or… or worse. My parents are just rational people when it comes to things like that. That’s how they raised me.” So finding out about the supernatural sent her through a never ending loop. “Oh - we should go play some of the games they have then, yeah?” Shiloh suggested with a smile not wanting her to get overwhelmed by the constant distractions at the carnival and instead focus on something like a game. It would do good for Shiloh too, take her mind off the weird things about the town. “Hey, what do you say we do some baking sometime? You up for it?” She asked as she walked toward a game stall.
So she was rational. Athena had to think about that - because though she certainly felt as though something was up with Shiloh, everything she’d tried - from her general senses to the foods she offered to the carefully word questions she asked - had proved fruitless in discovering anything useful. “People can be quite rational. Seems like your parents have a good head on their shoulders.” Even if you make me far too curious. “Yeah, let’s do some games. As for baking? Just say when and it’s on.” She walked after Shiloh. This isn’t over. That much she knew completely.

Yo. I’m a sucker for jealous tony. But like, I also love tony being relentlessly hit on by an ex and tony just shutting her the fuck down™️ and peter calming him down and ugh I just... like tony being like “I’m in a relationship you psycho” and peter being like “Tony it’s fine I can take it” and tony being like “no it’s not you are a great person and you deserve the whole ass world and I won’t let bitch face over here belittle you like that as if I’m not hopelessly in love with you”
I hope I did you proud, Anon! Thank you so much for the request
If there was one thing that Tony enjoyed, it was spoiling his boy. From $400 champagne to luxury bathing products. From letting him steal a hoodie to buying him the whole spring collection. The one thing he enjoyed probably the best, however, was introducing Peter to new, fancier foods.
As a typical teenage and as someone who wasn’t exactly rolling in money, Peter’s diet was almost entirely sandwiches, ramen and energy drinks. Tony had been appalled when he’d looked through Peter’s cupboards, handling the packets of various ramen flavours as though they were biohazards.
It had spiralled from there. Tony would take Peter to restaurants, to tastings. Would bring him home little taster dishes, hand-feeding Peter and watching his pupils blow, the way he drooled a little over certain explosions of flavour. Tony relished in the way Peter ate exotic fruits dipped in chocolate. How he could be easily bribed with fine sushi.
It had led them to here, sitting at their reserved table at The Rose and Ivy, one of the most luxurious, elite dining establishments in Malibu. They served a luxurious lobster tail that Tony was sure Peter would probably cream his pants for. Red wine he knew would stain the boy’s lips and coat his tongue on the way down. A cheesecake Peter might actually leave him for.
Peter was talking, animated but soft in the general hush of the place, Tony ridiculously endeared as he listened to Peter talk about how he and MJ had done this amazing art piece on feminism for their art class. Tony was ensnared, gazing at the way the soft, golden lighting cast a glow on his cheekbones when Peter’s voice faltered slightly, gaze sliding quizzically up and over Tony’s head.
“Tony Stark” came from behind him, a shrill voice that was distantly familiar. Tony’s brows climbed upwards, tilting his head slowly as he turned around in his seat. Approaching was a tall, leggy red-head. He had a set jaw and lips a little too obviously enhanced. She had changed, but he knew her well enough.
“Delilah Martin” he responded evenly, stretching a leg to nudge Peter’s gently. He could sense the returning smile, ever delighted at Tony’s attention. He could tell the boy was curious, leaning forwards as the woman continued to approach, stopping only when she was practically pressing her hips against his shoulder.
“It’s been a long time since you’ve gone prowling in these streets” she greeted, a coy smile on her lips. Tony scoffed lightly but kept a pleasant smile on his lips, having to tip his head back to look up at her. She wasn’t wearing as much makeup as she used to, and she now had crowsfeet at the edges of her eyes, but she hadn’t changed much.
“I wasn’t aware dinner was classed as prowling, these days” he responded with disinterest, glancing across at Peter, who didn’t seem to be put out by this situation. Delilah followed his gaze, her smile turning easy and light.
“Awh, how sweet. He’s adorable. Yours?” She asked, a brow cocking. Peter’s cheeks immediately flushed, a gentle kiss of red that Tony knew crept down to his collarbones. He ducked his head sweetly, seemingly un-bothered that their romantic dinner had been interrupted.
“Mm. Mine” he remarked, allowing just a breath of possessive energy to lilt his tone. The blush deepend and he watched it with a dark gaze, felt the urge to lick his way across it. He wasn’t necessarily a jealous man. But he certainly enjoyed having things as his. Peter was giving him that look, shocked and sweet but under his lashes, like he knew what Tony was thinking of doing.
“You always were the Daddy type” she smirked, turning her attention back to Tony. She said it with a slight husk, almost a purr. Except it did nothing for him, not when it wasn’t coming from the mouth across the table from them. At the comment, Peter sniffed delicately, raised his glass of virgin cocktail and sipped.
“Peter does seem to think so” he drawled back, letting his dark gaze remain steady on his boy. Peter’s hand were shaking as he set his drink down, furiously avoiding looking anywhere in Tony’s direction. It made his lazy smirk grow, only slightly dampened when he realised that Delilah was still there.
“No hot date to get to?” He prompted, doing his best to keep his tone polite as he gave her a pointed look. She gave a throaty chuckle, as though the idea was absurd. She pointed off across the room, instead.
“Oh, just a dinner with Verity. Some down time, yes? Life can be so stressful. We all need to find our ways to relax. Let loose” she responded, reaching up a hand to comb through her hair. When she dropped it, it landed on his shoulder, squeezed gently. Tony intercepted before she could continue.
“Mm, well. If you don’t mind, I’m entertaining my letting loose” He shot back, turning away from her. It knocked her hand from his shoulder, but she didn’t seem affronted, her gaze sliding briefly up to Peter. The boy squirmed, as though suddenly re-aware of the fact he was still sloppy, still loose from their lazy morning in bed.
And the shower. And the kitchen counter.
“It’s good to see you back around, Tony. Almost like the good days” she stated after a pause, the implication deep in her words. Tony contemplated how many levels of Hell he would travel if he tripped her on her way past, but he behaved, resolutely not looking at her as she turned away and moved past the table, heading to her own.
“An old friend?” Peter piped up after a moment, looking at him demurely over the rim of his glass. Tony shifted, slid his knee along the inside of Peter’s thigh slowly, heavily. Peter’s head dipped slightly, his exhale soft in the space between them. Tony had never lied to Peter, and he would not start now.
“I dated her, for a while. A year or so, I believe. I didn’t particularly love her, but she was out-going and attractive and wasn’t overly demanding of my money” he answered honestly, watched the thoughts and information turn over in Peter’s head. Peter wasn’t particularly jealous, either. He had the odd moment of petulance when an old article resurfaced or whenever Tony displayed just how much more experience he had, but it was never anything more.
“Okay. Thank you for telling me” Peter responded simply, dropping a hand below the table to gently skate his fingers over Tony’s knee reassuringly. Tony allowed a warm smile. This was part of why he enjoyed Peter so. He wasn’t one to throw a hissy fit over Tony’s prior companions. He went to respond when a waiter approached, setting down a dome in front of each and whipping away the lids with a flourish.
Peter looked sceptical but also enthusiastic as he picked up his fork, glanced at Tony before he delicately procured a piece, brought it to his mouth. Tony could tell the exact moment the flavor hit him, Peter’s lashes fluttered slightly and his body relaxing as he sighed. A low, content sound. Appeased, Tony begun to devour his own meal. They’re just polishing off the vegetables on the side when the waiter approached again.
“Please pardon the interruption, Sirs. But the woman on 16 wished for me to bring this to you”. He directs the last part at Tony, placing a glass down on the table, stooping, before retreating away. Tony doesn’t need to guess who is sitting at 16. There’s lipstick on the rim of the glass. A clear message.
Pete was watching him, a brow arched. He didn’t seem annoyed or offended, however. In fact, Tony could clearly see the boy was at least a little amused. “That’s a good tactic” Peter whispered, nodding towards the glass. Tony gave a non-committal sound in response. After a moment, he picked the glass up, flagged down a passing waiter, who took it easily.
Dessert arrived not so long after, Tony having trapped one of Peter’s legs between his own, squeezing gently. A promise of later. His attention is completely blindsided when the cheesecake arrives, however. Realistically, he’s not all that offended. The moan is entirely worth it, the smear of cream on his bottom lip.
Tony wants to lick it off.
“Aw. Looks like you got your dessert first” comes from besides them. Tony stabbed his fork down, almost pushing his cake right off his plate in shock. Impossibly, she’s back. Across, Peter looks nonplussed, halfway through chewing. He still doesn’t appear jealous, but more aggrieved, now. She is a persistent disruption to their date.
“Never-mind. You know what they say about first desserts” she smirks, dragging her gaze over him deliberately before moving on. She’s heading for the bathrooms, and Peter gave a soft snort.
“What. The. Fuck” he ground out, jaw setting as he put down his fork. He had half a mind to follow, to really chew her out in a way she wouldn’t enjoy, but Peter’s fingers were around his wrist, firm and grounding. His eyes are big and docile when Tony relented, turning to look at him.
“Hey. Tony. It’s okay. I mean, I can’t blame her. I’d be salty if you ever got away, too” he teased, voice soft and earnest and Tony turned his arm in the grip, held Peter’s wrist gently. God, what he wouldn’t do for this kid.
“She’s unstable” he remarked, slouching back in his seat. Peter’s laugh is delicate, amused.
“I’m serious. This is- Clearly, we are on a date. And she’s in the bathrooms waiting ,for Christ’ sake” Tony scoffed, letting go and picking up his fork. Before him, Peter doesn’t seem as un-nerved, shrugging gently and taking another luxurious bite. The peace is short lived, however. His gaze slides over Tony’s shoulder again and his expression goes pinched.
“Didn’t realise older also meant senile” comes from behind his ear, low where she’s stooped. It took a deep breath for Tony to set his fork down calmly and not stab it into her nearest eyeball.
“Delilah. The only person I would sneak off to a restaurant bathroom to fuck, is Peter. This one. Here. You can see him, right?” He asked, head tilting as he pointed to Peter. The boy froze for a moment before offering a sheepish wave. “Yes, that one. Hi, sweetheart. But I would not, in the rest of this lifetime, fuck you in a bathroom. Or…At all, really” he admitted with a scrunch of his nose.
Besides him, she opened her mouth, but he flapped a hand at her with determination. “Now. Shoo. Please. Now, preferably. Before I-”
“Tony” Peter’s voice is stern but concerned, the boy reaching across the table. His brows are furrowed, a gentle pout on his lips. And oh, how Tony hates her more. Now his baby is upset. “Really. It’s okay”. His voice dropped to a murmur, soothing and low.
“Tony, really? I-”.
Tony sighed, deep and heavy, and pushed to his feet abruptly. Cheesecake be damned. He would bring Peter here another time. As it was, he signalled for the waiter who had taken their coats. Peter was looking up, confused, a little wounded as Tony rounded the table, reaching for him.
“Come on, baby boy. We’re going to leave. Go somewhere we aren’t being interrupted by psychotic exes” Tony announced, uncaring of the attention they had begun to attract. Peter took his hand obligingly, standing. “You deserve better than this” he added, more of a whisper.
She scoffed, obnoxious and offended, pushing past to return to her table. But the mood is already gone, his attempt to woo his boy dashed.
“Tony. We don’t have to leave” Pete whispered back, pressing close as Tony wrapped an arm around his waist, turning to guide him towards the door. He can make up for this. He will. In any way he can.
“No, baby. We’re gonna. Because you deserve more than this. You shouldn’t have to put up with it” he murmured, low against Peter’s ear as they stepped out into the crisp, night air. The steward is already waiting, their coats in hand. The valet is already bringing the car.
“I want you to have the world, my sweetheart. I want you to enjoy peaceful, fancy dinners and to know how much I love and value you”. The steward is holding out Peter’s coat first, and Tony took it, sliding it over Peter’s shoulders and helping him to tuck his arms into the sleeves. He can already hear the Lamborghini.
“I know how much you love me, moron” Peter murmured back, cheeks tinged pink and bashful as he ducked his head, a shy smile curving his lips. Tony ducked his head, kissed his temple fondly, took his own coat.
“I want the world to know it, Peter. I’d shout it from every rooftop. Every skyscraper. I’d broadcast it to the world, if you let me” he continued, tugging Peter closer on the top step. The wind bit their cheeks, tousled Peter’s hair. He pressed his hands against Peter’s spine, closing the space between their bodies.
“You deserve to know that I’m hopelessly, completely gone on you. And you deserve for the world to know it” he reminded him, kissing the tip of Peter’s nose. The boy giggled, swatted him away.
“You’re ridiculous”.
“Why? Because I refuse to allow some random woman from my past to disrespect my lover?” Tony asked, raising a brow as he pulled Peter down the steps, took the keys from his valet. “Or because I would happily shout to the whole city that I love you? Because I’ll do it. Right now!” He announced, letting go of Peter to plant a foot on the bonnet of the car, pushing himself up.
Peter gaped, flailing his arms. “Tony! What are you doing? Christ, get down. Tony!” Except he’s grinning, broad and dopey and Tony knows he doesn’t really care. He moved closer, reaching to grasp Tony’s trousers. So he hopped up onto the roof, cupped his hands over his mouth.
“My name is Tony Stark and I’m in love with Peter Parker!” He shouted, voice whipped by the wind but still loud, still clear. Below him, Peter was a laughing mess, scrabbling to try and pull him down. “This idiot right here is my idiot and I am hopelessly in love with him!” He shouted again, laughing as Peter grasped pant leg, tugged him a little off balance. He ducked, grasped Peter’s arms and hauled the squealing boy up onto the roof besides him, tugged him close so Peter was on his tip-toes, cheeks dark and eyes wild.
“I will give you the world, Peter Parker. If you’d let me” he murmured, still smiling foolishly as Peter reached up, grasped the collar of his coat and pulled him down into a breathless kiss.
Yes. Tony would give him the world. A world that knew he was utterly and irreversibly in love with him.

Top 20 Songs of 2020
Okay y’all, here’s my top kpop songs of 2020 list for this year (finally, good lord this year felt like an eternity). These are the 20 songs that I felt really made an impact on me this year and why 💕
Starting from last to first, here we go!
20. Dr. Bebe, Pentagon - this song deserved so much better tbh the music video was everything, their acting was excellent and the vocals were *chefs kiss* i also loved the dark, creepy vixx -reminiscent vibes
19. Back Door, Stray Kids - Ok like objectively i know that God’s Menu was like their piece de resistance this year, but Back Door was just so fun and had a great bass line and the choreo was SO good
18. Cry For Me, Twice - this literally JUST came out like two seconds ago but let me tell you cry for me has legit been stuck in my head from the SECOND i heard it just ask my sister she’s this close to killing me next time i sing the chorus
17. Red Sun, Dreamcatcher - Let’s be real, dreamcatcher’s entire studio album was perfect from start to finish, and red sun was a standout among that perfection for me like from the magical mystical instrumental to dami’s absolutely earth-shattering rap line, just absolute gold my dude
16. Kick It, NCT 127 - This was a very polarizing song for a lot of people i feel, but for me the concept was literally executed to perfection. It had so much potential to be cheesy and gimmicky, but it totally wasn’t and i think it’s because nct 127 committed SO wholeheartedly to the concept
15. So Bad, StayC - THIS song. I actually already had my list all written out when i discovered so bad by stayc and i literally had to reconsider my ENTIRE existence. They are so so good with such a talented production team backing them and they’ve literally just debuted.
14. Dun Dun, Everglow - A lot of people really hated this song, and don’t get me wrong i had my own issues with the line and screen time distribution for sure, but you can’t deny it’s a total banger
13. Nonstop, Oh My Girl - This is the kind of song that i never really expected to fall in love with. It’s bubbly and cute and quite like youthful, but oh my girl honestly pull that concept off so well and they had me immediately hypnotized
12. Be In Love, Itzy - 2020 was the year of bailey eating her own words aka the year of me falling in love with itzy. when itzy debuted i seriously thought if they stuck with their concept i probably wouldn’t ever be into their music but lmao. they showed me. anyway this b side is seriously underrated and it really shows the girls vocal talents off, especially lia and yuna
11. Love Killa, Monsta X - hyungwon. that’s it that’s the post . . . jk but for real, visuals popped off. love killa was exactly what i’ve been wanting from mx for the past year or so. they hit the nail right on the head with the this one.
10. Secret Story of the Swan, izone - my relationship with izone is basically like my relationship with itzy part 2. I always appreciated them for their talents and having a very recognizeable sound but i could never get into their music. then SSOTS happened, and to be honest it STILL gets stuck in my head at random times
9. Phobia, Stray Kids - i LOVE this b side. for a while i thought it might replace Voices as my favourite skz track, but it just didn’t have the longevity that voices does. that said, it’s still such a good song with an important message did i mention that i love stray kids
8. La Di Da, Everglow - i have said it before and i’ll say it again: no one is doing it like everglow. this song came so out of the blue and blindsided so many people with how unexpectedly different it was, all while being a certified banger. the line distribution is aMAZING, you get to hear each member’s unique flavor, the straight 80’s vibe is immaculate, the styling is God-tier, just . . . everything. i LOVE this comeback
7. Eternally, TXT - if you know me, you know i love a good beat switch-up (i mean, my ult group is stray kids for crying out loud) and ladies. this song is the switch up to end all switch ups. txt somehow managed to combine two completely different tracks, each of which would have been A+ songs all on their own, and somehow make something a million times better. listening to eternally is a whole experience in and of itself and i haven’t heard anything that could compare to it to this day
6. Girls, Nature - UGH. WHAT an underappreciated masterpiece. girls by nature does everything that other companies are so afraid to do with their girl groups: a strictly dark, horror concept, a haunting melodic line with no need for a rap breakdown because it stands on its own as is, a visual concept that does not sexualize the girls in any way but instead tells a story of a person at the mercy of the one they love. it’s e v e r y t h i n g. Not to mention the song has one of the best pre choruses i’ve EVER heard.
5. Wannabe, Itzy - Let’s be honest, you knew this was going to be here. Everyone and their grandma was learning ryujins shoulder move. this was literally the summer of itzy’s wannabe. This is actually the comeback that got me onboard the itzy train and now i’m barreling down the mountain going 200mph and can’t find the breaks
4. I Can’t Stop Me, Twice - I think onces really had no idea where this comeback was gonna go. after more and more got such mixed responses from fans, we all weren’t really sure what direction the company was going to take twice in next. personally, i’m SO happy they went for the retro synth 80’s vibe concept. it was current enough to fish in non fans and keep new onces engaged but they also added their own unique twice spice to it, and i’ve been playing it on repeat for weeks also stan risky risky wiggy wiggi
3. Oh My God, G Idle - Ahhhh, yes. another polarizing song from gidle. omg for me was exactly what i needed from gidle. They’d been playing around with the darker concepts but had never fully committed to the potential that i saw in their music, but with omg we finally got the see them go full out with it, and i don’t think ANYONE could have done it better. The drop while empty was somehow so satisfying, the visials in the mv were visceral and witchy and to think that soyeon wrote and produced such a masterpiece. all i can say is bravo
2. Daisy, Pentagon - if this song doesn’t hold a very special place in your universe heart then buddy i think it’s time to throw the whole heart away. daisy, on top of being the first song to earn pentagon a well deserved music show win, was so emotionally moving from the lyrics to the mv to the choreo. you don’t need to know korean to feel exactly what the writer is feeling when hui sings that chorus, and that my friend is true artistry.
1. Answer, Ateez - Bet you were expecting a stray kids song. answer though has had my whole entire heart body and soul from the second it came out all the way back in january. for it to last a whole year as my favourite song of 2020 really speaks volumes as to how incredibly talented ateez and their production team are. Over the course of this absolute shit year, this song really inspired me to push forward, to keep working toward my goals and to keep believing in myself, and i think that’s a pretty amazing feat for one single song.
Anyway y’all sorry for the unnecessarily long post. I’ve just been compiling this list for months and was really excited to share. If any of my followers or just anyone who reads through this wants to share their own list, id love to see what songs impacted you this year! Happy New Years’ yall!

It’s Legal in Munich
Ch 4/4
Summary: Lonely in Munich, Germany, Chloe hires an escort to pass the night. AU. Originally for Bechloe Week 2019: 20 Questions.
Words: 5k
Rating: T
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
AO3 and FFN
Chloe really should have seen this coming.
She’s definitely the kind of person to whom this would happen.
Still, here she is, packing her suitcase for the next chapter in her travel adventure and finding herself completely blindsided by how hard it is to move on from Beca.
Which is ridiculous. They aren’t together. They’d talked about how not-together they are. It should be a non-issue because they’re so not-together. It should be that simple. Chloe should be able to throw a wave and a smile over her shoulder at Beca and board her plane without ever looking back.
And yet.
It’s her own fault, really. It’s so easy to be around Beca. It feels natural, as if they were meant to have met. They’re so different from one another, but somehow they’re on the same wavelength. It has to be the music. That’s it. Beca lives and breathes music. She’s also kind, honest, and totally adorable. Even though she’d probably glare at Chloe if the word “adorable” was so much as whispered in her presence.
Chloe should have known better.
She’s not stupid. She knows her feelings won’t change a thing. She’s still getting on a plane tomorrow and leaving.
Beca isn’t going with her. Beca is staying in Munich, along with a much larger piece of Chloe’s heart than she would really like to admit.
Chloe folds her last blouse carefully, placing it neatly into the suitcase she’s packed and repacked and rearranged no fewer than four times so far. She’ll probably redo the whole thing at least once again before she actually leaves for the airport tomorrow.
She’s pretty much ready to go. She’s checked into her flight on their mobile app. She’s seen the big tourist draws in Munich, along with more of the local haunts—all thanks to Beca, of course. She’s got her S-Bahn ticket to the Munich airport. She’s memorized the route from her destination airport in Krakow, Poland to her hotel. Her suitcase is packed, and she’s left an outfit out for tomorrow.
Chloe stares at her suitcase, eyes traveling over its contents without really seeing any of it.
It doesn’t seem like Beca’s having all that hard of a time moving on. If she’s honest with herself, Chloe knows she should have seen this coming, too. Hadn’t Beca told her, after all, that what she does is run? Beca had always been honest with her about what was going to happen at the end of Chloe’s time in Munich. Beca had avoided labeling them, mostly for that reason.
Chloe hasn’t really heard from Beca in a while. Well, two days. Not since their electric scooter date. Which wasn’t a date, exactly, but was more of a… well, it was basically a date. She knows Beca is okay; they have been sending brief texts back and forth, but nothing of any substance. It makes sense. Chloe’s leaving tomorrow, so Beca is protecting herself. Chloe doesn’t fault her for it.
They’d agreed to meet up one more time for dinner at the same bierhaus Beca had taken her to earlier. A sort of farewell dinner that Chloe already knows is going to be, as everything with Beca always has been, fun and exciting and bittersweet and painful. Chloe takes a deep breath.
Maybe it would be better for her to cancel and save them the trouble. She can already picture the way Beca’s going to spend the dinner rubbing awkwardly at the back of her neck, her eyes darting around the room. She knows it isn’t that Beca is uncomfortable, but rather that Beca can’t stand goodbyes.
More than once, Chloe has caught Beca watching her, a strange expression on her face. Chloe never called her on it, though. She knows Beca’s struggling with this whole thing just as much as she is.
That’s the worst thing about this. Chloe knows perfectly well that Beca feels the same way about her. She can lie to herself all day, pretending that Beca doesn’t care, but it’s simply not true. Beca cares so much more than she feels comfortable with revealing.
A knock on the door startles Chloe, causing her to emit an involuntary little squeak of surprise. She looks at the closed door, already knowing who is standing in the hallway beyond it. She draws her lower lip into her mouth; it’s too late to cancel their evening after all.
She moves mechanically toward the door, her stomach fluttering with the same nerves she’d felt upon first meeting Beca. As she did then, too, she has to pause for a moment with her hand resting on the handle. She takes a deep breath. Another. Then opens the door, fighting a strong sense of Deja-vu.
The little smile-smirk that Beca gives her, though, is different from the one she’d given when they’d first met. This one is softer, more open, and is accompanied by a little, “Hey.” Beca, no matter how unwittingly and unwillingly, has become familiar. Her presence wraps Chloe in complete comfort.
Any thought that Chloe had had of cancelling their evening flies out the window at top speed and tips headlong over the balcony to shatter into fragments on the concrete below.
“Hi,” Chloe replies, her eyes drawn for the first time to the food containers Beca holds in her hands. “Is that...”
Beca glances down at the containers in her hands. “Oh, yeah. From the same bierhaus restaurant we went to before. It’s kind of raining, so I thought, you know, instead of going out, maybe we should just stay in?”
Chloe hadn’t even noticed the rain; as soon as Beca points it out, though, she can hear it gently pattering on the roof above. “Sure,” she agrees easily. “But don’t you think it’s more romantic to kiss in the rain?” She has no idea what makes her say those words, but they escape from her lips before she can even try to stop them.
Color rises in Beca’s cheeks unexpectedly and she glances downward with a small huff.
Her embarrassment surprises Chloe, and she tries to backtrack. “Um, I didn’t—”
“You have a balcony, don’t you?” Beca interrupts, arching an eyebrow as her color returns to normal. “We can always kiss on that.”
This time, it’s Chloe who finds herself tongue-tied. Before she can come up with any kind of counter, Beca continues.
“Unless you were hoping for one more stroll through Munich?” she offers. “Which would be fair.”
“Tempting,” Chloe muses, regaining her voice, “but a night in sounds really nice, too.”
Even as she finishes her sentence, she kicks herself mentally. Spending any more time alone with Beca is only going to make leaving her so much worse.
“Great,” Beca grins, her smile widening and eyes sparkling with amusement. “Are you gonna start by inviting me in?”
Chloe laughs quietly and rolls her eyes at the old joke. “Are you a vampire or something?” she asks playfully as she steps aside, gesturing Beca into the room. “Always having to be invited in.”
Beca steps inside, shrugging off her jacket in a move that really shouldn’t be sexy but totally is. “Nah, but how cool would it be if I could turn into a bat?”
“I’d rather not get rabies,” Chloe teases as she closes the door and locks it.
Beca’s smile changes into a smirk and she fires back, “I only bite if I’m asked to.”
It startles a laugh out of Chloe, full and free, and she knows Beca won that round. “Speaking of,” she begins, leading Beca to the balcony, “did you have a client last night? I was kind of surprised you were even free tonight.”
It’s Saturday, and typically, Beca’s time would be booked.
Beca’s expression shifts minutely, a flicker so quick that Chloe can’t be sure she hadn’t imagined it. “Nah. I haven’t really had clients the past few days.”
“Slow time?”
Beca shrugs. “I guess. What have you been up to?”
Chloe flicks open the latch on the room’s patio door and helps Beca carry the food out to the covered balcony, where they can eat on the little table and will be sheltered from the rain. Out here, the smell and sound of the rain ensnares Chloe, heightening her senses. “Mostly packing, honestly,” she answers. “Some walking around. And figuring out where I want to go after Krakow.”
“Poland?” Beca asks, sounding surprised as she settles into one of the chairs and divides the stack of containers between them. “What’re you going to do there? I’ve never been.”
“I guess there’s a lot to do in the main city square. Lots of good food, lots of history. It looks beautiful online.”
Beca smiles faintly, her eyes not quite meeting Chloe’s. “You’ll have to send me pictures.”
“Y—yeah,” Chloe breathes, the weight of her departure suddenly weighing heavy on her lungs. Desperate to change the subject and avoid the sad awkwardness she’d been dreading, she asks, “What did you bring to eat?”
“Oh, uh,” Beca starts, opening the containers and naming each dish as it’s exposed. She’d brought what seems to be samples of German essentials; schnitzel, spaetzle, white asparagus with hollandaise, various meats and cheese, and a huge pretzel. “And there’s always…” Beca trails off, lifting the lid off a final container to reveal two slices of chocolate cake. “I got the order right this time,” she grins at Chloe.
Chloe smiles back, surveying the food. “This is really nice, Bec, thank you.”
“Anytime,” Beca replies, looking out over the balcony railing to survey the sprawl of rainy Munich. Her posture is just a little too rigid, her tone a smidge clipped.
Chloe instantly knows there’s something Beca’s holding back. Her first impulse is to start questioning, but she catches herself. She knows Beca well enough by this point to understand that Beca will open up when she’s ready. So, to pass the time, Chloe starts on the meal, trying to savor every bite. She doesn’t know when she’ll be in Germany again, and she wants to memorize its flavors.
Beca eventually tears her gaze away from the rain-soaked city to instead focus on their meal. It’s several minutes before either of them breaks the silence, though Chloe’s fairly certain she can hear the whirring of Beca’s mind.
“So, uh, actually…” Beca breaks the quiet first, clearing her throat and looking almost nervous.
Chloe swallows her most recent bite of food and rests her fork against the edge of her plate, waiting patiently for Beca to say what she needs to say.
“Sorry I haven’t really been around much the last few days,” Beca says slowly. She presses her lips together and runs her tongue over her teeth before continuing, every word spoken almost cautiously. “I’ve been kind of... arranging things.”
“Things?” Chloe asks, surprised. The script is, as is always the case with Beca, not what she had expected.
“Yeah. Um, the day we did the scooter... thing,” Beca reminds her, waving a hand in the air aimlessly, “I got an email from my old boss in LA. The music production studio?” the pitch of her voice raises, making it sound like a question.
Chloe’s heart speeds up and she nods uncertainly, her stomach fluttering with a mixture of anticipation and nerves.
“Yeah,” Beca says again, “so I guess my boss kind of—on a whim—shared some of my old demos with a few different production studios, and this place in New York got back to him. They’re interested. In what I can do,” she adds, an afterthought.
Chloe’s jaw drops. She knows she must look ridiculous; Beca starts to smirk at her, but Chloe recovers quickly enough to speak first. “Beca! That’s amazing! You—congratulations!”
“Oh, uh, thanks,” Beca says, blinking a little.
“No, really, that’s—what’s it called, the place in New York?”
Beca screws up her nose in thought. “BFD? I’d never heard of them, but I guess it’s an up and coming company.”
“That could be an amazing opportunity,” Chloe hedges, craving more details.
“Yeah, I… yeah.”
“Beca.”
“Hmm?”
“Did you give them an answer?” Chloe actually thinks she might explode if Beca doesn’t start giving details.
“Oh. Well, it doesn’t really work like that. Like, I have to interview and stuff,” Beca clarifies, looking more awkward by the second.
Chloe forces herself to calm down and count to five before asking her next in a series of questions; as excited as she is for Beca, she doesn’t want to force her into doing anything she doesn’t truly want to do.
“Do you want to interview?” she eventually asks, taking a bite of asparagus to seem nonchalant.
Beca hesitates, then gives a single jerky nod. “Yeah, it—it’s terrifying,” she huffs with a little smile, “but I said yes. To an interview. Terrifying and exciting,” she adds, another afterthought.
“It definitely is both terrifying and exciting, for sure,” Chloe agrees. “Though I’d have said you were crazy if you hadn’t agreed.”
“It feels a little crazy to interview anyway,” Beca shrugs, now reaching for her slice of cake. “It’s been so long.”
“Maybe. But they’re going to love you. How could they not?” Chloe asks before she can stop herself. Her face warms and she tries to hide it by taking another bite of her food. “So, uh, is it over Skype or phone or…”
“No, they want to show me around in person,” Beca mumbles through her mouthful of dessert. “I have to go over there.”
“That’s a good sign! When?”
“I fly out tomorrow.”
The words land between them, flopping unexpectedly onto the table. For a moment, Chloe simply looks at Beca and Beca simply looks at Chloe.
“Tomorrow…” Chloe trails off. Tomorrow is turning out to be a big day.
Beca nods maybe over-enthusiastically. “I checked, and our flights are actually pretty close together. We could—we could go to the airport together, if you want.”
Chloe doesn’t want to go to the airport together at all, because every additional minute she spends with Beca, it becomes that much harder to be able to leave. At the same time, it would also mean prolonging the time they have together.
“That would be awes,” she says, now starting on her own slice of cake.
“Cool,” Beca sighs happily, sitting back in her chair. “And, uh, also, I quit my job as an escort.”
“You did?” Chloe asks, surprise rippling through her.
“Yeah. I mean, I wasn’t going to, because if this whole interview thing doesn’t work out… well, I still need a job,” Beca says practically. “But I was thinking about it, and I decided that even if it doesn’t work out, maybe it’s time for me to try to, you know, figure things out.”
Chloe knows she’s smiling like an idiot, but she can’t help it. “Bec, that’s… I’m so proud of you! That takes a lot.”
Beca smiles at her happily. “You inspired me, I guess.”
And Chloe doesn’t really know what to say to that—her heart is beating too loudly for her to really think of anything—so she settles for a wink and another bite of cake. Beca’s eyes don’t leave her as she eats, searching her expression until it starts to make Chloe self-conscious.
“Do I have something on my face again?” she asks, mostly teasing.
Beca blinks and seems to shake herself. “Oh, no, just… what about you?”
“Hmm? What about me.”
“You know,” Beca lifts one shoulder. “With the vet stuff. With Aubrey. With singing and all that.”
“Oh.” Chloe again pauses, resting her fork on the table. “That.”
Beca grins crookedly at her but doesn’t say anything. She pushes away her now-empty cake container.
“I… don’t know,” Chloe says slowly. “I’ve been thinking and… I don’t know.”
Beca shrugs. “You don’t have to know right now,” she says softly.
“Yeah, I…” Chloe sighs. “I know that I can’t stay here forever. But… vet school has always been the plan, but I don’t know… what if I don’t get accepted anywhere?”
The question seems to catch them both by surprise; Chloe hadn’t realized that such a prospect frightened her so much, and Beca stares at her for a moment, blinking slowly.
Beca recovers first. “You’ll get in,” she says, eyes wide. “You’re really smart. And, you know, on the off chance if not, there are other options.”
“I suppose.”
Beca watches her, expression turning calculating. “I could see you as a music teacher.”
“Yeah?” Chloe asks, surprised again.
“Definitely.”
“I have thought about that before, actually.”
Beca lifts a hand to her chin, narrowing her eyes in thought. “It would suit you, I think.”
Chloe snorts at her ridiculous expression. “I would want to do elementary school, probably. Because—”
“Because you could teach them to love music,” Beca guesses. It’s not a question.
Chloe stares at her. Is it really possible that Beca already knows her that well? “I… yeah, exactly. You just… exactly.”
“I like that. You’d be great at that, too.”
Chloe toys with her napkin, the harder part of Beca’s question bouncing around her head now. “I think I should call Aubrey,” she eventually says.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Just to see,” Chloe shrugs, a finger tracing absently over the details in the grain of the wooden table. “I miss her.”
“I hope it works out between you two.”
“Me too.”
They both fall quiet, the gentle rain the only sound breaking the silence. Chloe shifts in her chair, a weird mood settling over her and pressing on her lungs. She finds herself thinking that if she and Beca had met sooner—maybe while they’d both been at Barden—they each could have figured out their lives that much sooner.
Maybe sensing Chloe’s shift in mood, Beca clears her throat. “So, do you want to watch a movie or anything?”
“A movie would be good,” Chloe replies gratefully, her wishful thinking scattering to the wind as she and Beca rise simultaneously from their chairs to clear the table.
It doesn’t take long to gather the empty food containers and utensils. With another look over the balcony at the darkening Munich horizon, Chloe follows Beca back inside the room and slides the patio door closed. They place the food containers on the room’s service cart and, without further ado, Chloe climbs onto her king-sized bed, props a pillow against the headboard, and leans back against it.
Still standing at the foot of the bed, Beca hesitates, her eyes flicking in the direction of the armchair as if she isn’t sure if she should join Chloe. Refraining from rolling her eyes in amusement, Chloe pats the space next to her on the bed pointedly.
“Right,” Beca mutters before joining Chloe on the bed. The mattress dips and moves as she crawls on her hands and knees to get to the head of the bed, and for some reason, the sight makes Chloe’s stomach flutter. Reaching her, Beca also props a pillow against the headboard, glancing up at the bottom of the storage cabinets above their heads.
“Comfy?” Chloe asks.
“Yep,” Beca says happily, settling back against her pillow. “Uh, I guess now we find the movie channel?”
“Thought you didn’t like movies,” Chloe remembers, reaching for the remote. “You sure about this?”
“Just don’t pick a boring movie,” Beca teases.
“I’ll do my best.”
She clicks the remote to turn on the TV, not sure what to expect. The first channel seems to be a news broadcast, given in German. She frowns and clicks the remote, scrolling through channel after channel, hoping for something watchable. Except...
Beca laughs as Chloe circles back all the way to the original news broadcast. “It’s in German. All of it.”
Chloe huffs. “I know we’re in Munich, but every channel is in German? Really?”
Beca bumps their shoulders together playfully. “It’s all good. Or I should say gut.”
“Okay, let’s just…” Chloe trails off, scrolling back a couple of channels until she goes back to what could be a German soap opera. She gestures to the TV, an actor’s dramatically brooding face filling the screen. “What do you think he’s saying?”
“Hmm,” Beca muses, staring at the screen for a moment. The actor mumbles something in rapid German, his face twisting. “I think he said, ‘I had a bad chalupa for lunch and now I regret it.’”
Chloe lets out a snort.
“All right, let’s see you do any better, nerd,” Beca goads her.
The soap opera cuts to an actress, tearful and heavily pregnant. She stares beseechingly at the handsome actor, asking him something in a quavering voice.
“Okay, so,” Chloe gets ready to translate, “she said, ‘This is what happens when you swallow watermelon seeds.’”
Beca’s lips twitch as she stares at the TV. “Interesting, interesting. I could see that.”
“I’m so good at German.”
“Definitely,” Beca says, looking over at Chloe, locking eyes.
Chloe’s breath catches in her throat; she hadn’t expected Beca’s face to be quite so close to hers.
The world around them fades away until Beca consumes Chloe’s every sense. She’s very aware of Beca, of every quiet breath she takes, of the blue of her eyes. She’s most aware of Beca’s proximity to her, the space of only a few inches separating them.
Beca’s eyes flick down to her lips. “What happens now?” she breathes.
“I don’t know,” Chloe whispers.
Beca lifts a shoulder. “Maybe it’s time for both of us to go home.”
A dull pain races through Chloe’s chest at the thought. “I… I don’t want to go home without you.”
Beca’s eyes close and she takes a deep breath. “Chloe, we can’t… tomorrow, we’re both—”
“I know.”
Beca’s eyes open again. “Okay,” she sighs, but then a corner of her mouth quirks up. “You want to play twenty questions?”
Chloe nods, her breath catching in her throat. Allowing her own eyes to drop to Beca’s lips, she asks, “Can I kiss you?”
It’s Chloe’s question, but it’s Beca who moves first. A hand rises to cup Chloe’s cheek gently at the same time Beca’s lips meet hers. She starts slow and soft, all gentle pressure that only builds when Chloe sighs into it, parting her lips.
Beca’s lips, soft and slightly chapped, meet hers again and again, each time at a new, more perfect angle. The hand on Chloe’s cheek slides around to the back of her neck, as if Beca instinctively knows the angle of the kiss is harsh.
Chloe’s own hands move, one bracing herself up on the mattress and the other resting on Beca’s hip. Under her touch, Beca is warm and solid. Their breath mingles, and Chloe is able to taste the hint of chocolate on Beca’s. Chloe’s lower lip is snared gently between Beca’s teeth; it pulls a soft whimper from within her chest and Beca smiles into the kiss, pressing closer.
Chloe has never been kissed like this before, so slow and thorough. She’s had her share of good and great kisses. Every kiss with Beca prior to this had been nothing less than amazing. But this is different. Chloe had always believed her body belongs to her, and to her alone. Right now, though… yours, she thinks as Beca deepens the kiss. I’m yours.
The curl of Beca’s tongue around her own makes Chloe’s fingers curl into the denim at Beca’s hip. She pulls, guides, until she’s lying on the bed with Beca half on top of her.
“Chloe,” Beca breathes, pulling back slightly, and for a second, Chloe’s terrified she’s about to stop. But then Beca’s mouth descends along her jaw, until Chloe has to tilt her head to expose more of her neck to Beca’s lips. Her fingers wind themselves into Beca’s tresses, and when Beca pauses at her pulse point, Chloe knows she must be able to feel how quickly her heart is pounding.
At the first touch of Beca’s tongue on her skin, Chloe gasps and arches. Again, Beca pauses, only to pull Chloe’s skin into her mouth more firmly, marking her. Chloe chokes on air, desire welling inside her and building low in her gut, and her hands drop to Beca’s backside, pulling her hips forward.
This time, it’s Beca who gasps, a broken breath leaving her and dissipating over Chloe’s overheated skin. “I…”
Drawing her lip between her teeth, hoping above all she isn’t reading things wrong, Chloe takes her hands from Beca’s ass to instead reach between them, unbuttoning Beca’s top. Beca goes still above her but doesn’t say anything. Her breathing becomes rapid puffs as Chloe undoes the last button and the shirt falls open.
Chloe just looks for a moment, stares at Beca’s chest in her simple black bra, before reaching to touch her gently. Beca’s eyes flutter and her head drops so she rests her forehead against Chloe’s.
“Chloe,” she whispers again. “You know—”
“I know,” Chloe says, her hands sliding over Beca’s bare skin to rest on her lower back. “But I don’t care.”
Beca stares down at her for a moment, eyes jumping between each of her own. Chloe waits, her entire body screaming for Beca’s touch. When Beca sits up, Chloe’s stomach plummets. But then Beca allows her shirt to slide the rest of the way from her shoulders and reaches to the headboard; she flicks a little switch, and the room lights go out as soft light emits from above the bed.
Chloe blinks up, surprised. “How did you know about that?”
Beca smiles down at her, features soft in the warm lighting. “I saw it the first time I was here.”
Chloe gives a small laugh that breaks off as the tips of Beca’s fingers toy with the hem of her shirt. They trace back and forth for several long seconds, until Chloe becomes impatient. She reaches down and sits up so she can whip the shirt over her head and off the side of the bed. Beca’s eyes drop immediately, and when Chloe lies down again, she pulls Beca back down on top of her.
Beca kisses her again, deep and searing, again breaking away to kiss down her jaw, her neck, her chest. She shifts again, her thigh landing high between Chloe’s. Fire races down Chloe’s spine and she arches, her own hand winding into her hair.
“Bec,” she gasps, and Beca’s lips return to hers.
“You’re so beautiful,” Beca says between kisses. “So, so beautiful.”
Completely overwhelmed, Chloe squirms under Beca, trying to pull her closer. Her hands slide over Beca’s bra strap, and she drags her nails lightly down Beca’s back until she finds the waistband of her pants. Beca stills over her as Chloe’s fingers slide around her hips to rest at the button of her jeans.
Beca pulls away so they can look into each other’s eyes. “Chlo…”
“Do you—” Chloe has to pause to moisten her lips. “Can we—”
“Are you sure?”
“Completely.” Chloe doesn’t hesitate. She has no reason to.
Beca’s eyes flutter again, and when she looks at Chloe, it takes Chloe’s breath from her lungs. “Okay,” she says, pressing a gentle kiss to Chloe’s lips. “Yes.”
With trembling fingers, Chloe opens the button and draws down the zipper.
*****************************
They’d taken a train to the airport. They’d gone through security together. They’d wasted as much time as possible wandering the hallways between gates, hand-in-hand as they looked through the ridiculously overpriced shops before returning to Beca’s gate, as her flight leaves first. Chloe knows they’ve only delayed the inevitable, though, and before she’s entirely ready (not that she’d ever really be ready), it’s time.
The desk attendant calls for boarding and, though it’ll take a little while until Beca’s zone is called, Chloe knows they have to say their goodbyes.
“So,” Beca starts, glancing over at her.
“Yeah,” Chloe sighs, something in her chest giving an uncomfortable tug.
“Yeah.”
They look at each other for a long moment.
“Um—”
“Beca—”
They try to speak simultaneously, and it breaks off into an awkward laugh. Beca rubs at the back of her neck.
“You go first,” Chloe says, knowing Beca would rather get it out of the way.
“Well,” Beca huffs with a small smile. “I was just gonna say that I’m glad you were bored enough in Munich to hire an escort to play twenty questions.”
Chloe feels a corner of her mouth lift. “I’m glad, too.”
Beca grins at her crookedly, then rubs at the end of her nose with the palm of her hand. “Um, what were you gonna say?”
“Oh, uh, I was going to say that I’m glad it was you,” Chloe says delicately. Because it would have been entirely inappropriate to voice what she’d really been wanting to say—Take me with you—and what she ended up saying is completely true anyway.
Beca gives her that signature close-lipped smile. “So, um, I don’t know if this interview… I mean, it’s still early stages,” she says, as though she isn’t almost guaranteed the job. Chloe knows she’ll get the job; how could she not? “But either way, I think I’ll be staying there—New York—for a little while. And, you know, if you want, when you get back—”
“I’ll call you,” Chloe promises, entwining their fingers together. “Definitely.”
“I don’t know for sure what’ll happen.”
“Neither do I. We match.”
“Cool,” Beca laughs right as the desk attendant calls for final boarding. “I should—”
“Totes,” Chloe says, trying to force a smile as they stand from the uncomfortable gate seats.
Beca checks that she has her bag and hadn’t left anything behind before meeting Chloe’s eyes. “Good luck out there, Chlo,” she says, blinking more often than she normally might.
“You too, Bec,” Chloe manages, her own eyes starting to sting.
There’s a beat of silence where Chloe isn’t sure if they should kiss or not, but the crowd around them makes the decision for them. Instead, she pulls Beca into a tight hug, burying her nose into her neck and inhaling the scent of her shampoo.
She hadn’t known Beca long, but Beca feels like home.
Beca has to pull away first. With a nod and a vague gesture in the direction of the dwindling line to board the plane, she starts walking. Chloe thinks she might make some parting noise, but her own throat is too tight to respond.
Still, she watches as Beca joins the line, watches Beca had her boarding pass to the ticketer to be scanned. With barely a glance back and not much fanfare, she watches Beca turn and enter the tunnel, and then she’s gone.
Walking to her own gate, Chloe smiles. She’s definitely texting Beca as soon as she lands.

Chapter 6
August through October 2020
After Wren left, Chris spent the first two days mad at her for the way she had forced him to tell her about Jessa. He'd already felt like a massive failure, but now that his best friend knew, he felt like even more of one.
Not to mention that he had been completely blindsided by her announcement. So much so that the full impact of her sudden departure didn't hit him until Sunday night when his brother showed up at the house with Addy, who'd spent the weekend with his mom. Wren being gone meant that he had no one to help him out with Addy for the next week or the weeks after that. He waited until after Addy was in bed to call his mom and see if she and/or his sisters could help him out at all.
The biggest adjustment to the schedule was that Addy started attending daycare every day. For the first two days, it was ok but by Wednesday the toddler started acting out. It started during dinner with his mom and siblings; Addy was fine one minute and then screaming and crying for Wren the next.
Chris did his best to console her, but nothing he did could change the fact that Wren had abandoned her. It took the better part of two hours to get Addy to fall asleep and then Chris had to leave her at his mom's house because he had an early call time the next morning. It broke his heart to leave his little girl there when she was so upset, but he didn't have a choice.
As the week progressed, Addy's temper tantrums got worse and began to remind Chris of the ones that they had experienced shortly after he and Addy had moved out of his mom's house. She would be perfectly fine one moment and then dissolve into a puddle of tears and flinging limbs. Each time, it took him hours to settle her down.
By Friday night, Chris's anger with Wren reached a boiling point. He was livid with her for the way that she had just waltzed out of their lives like it was no big deal, like they would be perfectly fine without her. Especially after she had all but forced him to tell her about Jessa not wanting Addy. That fact alone should have stopped her from leaving, but no, his former best friend had run out of their lives like her pants were on fire.
His mom's annual end of summer barbeque was that weekend and Chris hoped Wren would show up so he could have words with her, but unlike years previous, neither she nor her parents came. He tried to drink away the unease that settled in his chest over their absence, but it only proved to be his downfall. All the angry thoughts he'd had about Wren during the week forced themselves out of his mouth and he spewed them to anyone who would listen.
Chris woke up the next morning with a killer hangover and a sick feeling that had nothing to do with the amount of drinking he'd done the night before. He couldn't remember everything he had said, but he remembered enough to know it had been bad.
Scott was the one to draw the short straw, or so he claimed, and escorted Chris out of their mom's house with the promise of a greasy breakfast. It was over their choice hangover food at a local hole-in-the-wall dinner that Scott laid all the cards on the table.
"Wren did not abandon Addy," he stated. "She did not abandon you, either. She isn't Jessa, Chris. Besides, you knew from the very beginning of this whole arrangement that she was going to go back to work in the fall."
Chris didn't argue with him, because logically he knew that his brother was speaking the truth. It didn't, however, softened the blow that was Wren walking out of his and Addy's lives.
"Maybe you should talk to someone," his brother suggested. "What you went through with Jessa changed you, Chris. The past week shows that you're still holding onto a lot of anger towards her, but it came out towards Wren and not the person you're really mad at."
Chris took Scott's word to heart and arranged for a therapist to meet with him one day a week during his lunch break on set. The first session was the awkward get to know you type that left him feeling frustrated and ready to call it all off, but he stuck with it. Following the second and third appointments, he felt a little better after getting things off his chest. He found he was still angry with Jessa, but he didn't want to punch a wall every time he thought of her anymore.
As part of his healing process, Chris realize he had to change things for himself and Addy. His mom and sisters were making it work, but he hated the nights when Addy stayed with them and he hated that he hardly got to spend any time alone with her. Sure, they had their weekends, but they'd spent more of those weekends with her in front of the TV while he tried to tackle all the household chores that fell by the wayside during the week.
It was during one of their rare full weekends together that he finally had a chance to teach Addy how to ride a bicycle with training wheels. As he watched her pedal her heart out, the solution to his problem presented itself in the form of his next door neighbor, Miss Loretta. Addy was delighted to see the 60-something year-old woman and Chris vaguely recalled Wren mentioning the woman to him in one of their chats earlier in the summer.
Miss Loretta was a widowed woman whose four grandsons had been students of Wren's. She had retired shortly after her oldest grandson had been born and had spent the last several years playing nanny to her grandkids, but they were all in school now which left her lots of time for volunteering.
It took Chris a week after meeting Miss Loretta to offer her the job as Addy's nanny and his part time housekeeper. She accepted immediately and started the next week. The change in Addy was almost overnight after they'd gotten her back to the schedule she'd been on during the summer. She still attended daycare five days a week, but left either right before or right after lunch and took naps at home.
During the first week of October, Chris used a day off from filming to take Addy to see the therapist that was helping him work out his Jessa issues. Things had gotten better since Miss Loretta had taken over Addy's care, but Chris still wanted to make sure his little girl was ok. Having two women who she dearly loved walk out of her life within months of each other couldn't be good. Not that he had mentioned Wren to the therapist yet. That was a whole different situation, one that he himself wasn't entirely sure about.
Addy was hesitant, at first, when they arrived at the therapist's office, but once she saw all the toys there were to play with, she had all but run into the room. Chris sat in the room next door watching her interactions with the therapist through a one-way mirror. The session lasted only thirty minutes or so before the therapist came into where Chris was waiting and assured Chris that, at that time, Addy appeared to be a perfectly normal 3-year-old.
It wasn't until Chris's next session that the therapist brought up the topic that Addy had talked about most: Wren.
"Wren is or was, I don't know exactly what she is now, but we were best friends," Chris explained. "She helped me with Addy this summer, but took a job out of state in early August."
"And how did that make you feel?" the therapist asked. "Especially on the heels of Jessa leaving the two of you."
The question forced Chris to rehash what he had told the therapist during their first meeting, but this time, he had included the parts about Wren. The first time, he had sort of glossed over her, but he knew he couldn't this time. He found that once he started talking about Wren, he couldn't stop.
Even after his appointment ended, Wren stayed at the forefront of his mind. He was able to finish the work day and do what he needed with Addy, but after that, his mind became an instant replay of the moments in his and Wren's life together.
He remembered the first time he kissed her and the way his lips had tasted like her blue raspberry chapstick after the kiss. The fact that he remembered the flavor surprised him, especially since he couldn't remember recall what the perfumes that Jessa or any of his previous girlfriends had worn without walking past the scent.
From there, his mind traveled to his senior prom and the way that Wren had sought him out after his date had gotten back together with her ex. He had been ready to leave the prom, but she had talked him into staying and had even offered to be his date for the rest of the night since she'd come with a group of friends.
Then came the memories of the stupid antics they'd gotten into in their twenties. Like the time he'd visited her at school and snuck into the girls only dorm and then had nearly gotten discovered by the resident assistant. Or that New Year's Eve when they'd stayed up all night talking and hadn't gone to bed until the sun had come up on January 1st.
All that thinking led him to one conclusion: Wren had taken a piece of his heart with her when she'd left and, with every memory that flickered across his brain, the hole got a little bigger. It was in the wee hours of the morning that the truth of the situation punched him in the gut: he had lost his best friend and he had no one to blame but himself.
