I woke up within a cold sweat with this botw/totk zelink headcanon but i like to think Link actually proposed to Zelda but in an unplanned unofficial way. Like...a week after totk happens and they're having their first breakfast at Hateno (or maybe Akkala) and Zelda's rambling about how she's sad she never recorded ancient food recipes she's tried at her time in the past and Link just stops her and goes "hey...do you want to get married?"
Zelda's visibly like ??? huh??? and he repeats it. She's a lil spooked cause where is this coming from. Also she's dense so she says "well...I've...assumed I'll be married sometime in the future..." not connecting that he's literally proposing to her and he smiles so sweetly at her and says "I mean with me. Will you want to marry me?" And he steps over to her side of the table and finally gets on one knee.

I think people sleep on this moment in the Odyssey...
If I'm wrong, not getting full context, or see something that isn't there, feel free to give evidence to explain why.
Here he crept under a pair of bushes, one an olive, the other a wild olive, which grew from the same stem with their branches so closely intertwined that when the winds blew moist not a breath could get inside, nor could the rain soak right through to the earth.
(Book 5, Rieu)
I think this is about Penelope and him.
Obviously, their marriage bed is made from an Olive tree. If it's just about Athena then why are there two mentioned? Why did Homer mention two when he could've just said he took refuge under one? Or a completely different type of tree? Why mention them being intertwined?
One an olive: Penelope, who has been with society and "safe" in Ithaca ("Safe" because of the suitors)
One wild: Odysseus, who has dealt with literal monsters and immortals and has just escaped from Calypso. Literally naked and filthy, a "wild man".
"which grew from the same stem with their branches": Them both being together at first, before being separated.
"so closely intertwined that when the winds blew moist not a breath could get inside, nor could the rain soak right through to the earth.": Despite being separated, they are still "intertwined". Whether you want to think of it as them being likeminded or simply connected, even though they are apart, nothing could get in between them. 🥺
I don't know what else Homer could be referring to other than them.

breaking bad fans are really like 'fellas. is it cheating if a woman hooks up with a man as a transparent way to drive her meth cooking husband away from her home since he completely ignored the fact that she filed for divorce against him and started to use the very fact that he was a drug lord as blackmail against her to get her to do what he wanted and remain his wife even when she explicitly told him she didn't want to?' and the conclusion they come to is that skyler is a bitch

Sorry what’s up w the Ethan slater stuff? I know him only from your posts / SpongeBob stuff
HI HELLO please buckle in
yep -- the same guy from the spongebob musical, and my posts abut the spongebob musical.
he blew up completely and now the general public knows him as 'ariana grande's new boyfriend' - their relationship seems to have started off the back of co-starring in the upcoming wicked musical film adaptation.
Tumblr media
it's just been like. a monkey's paw curling sort of a way for him to get catapulted to fame, as i had always really enjoyed him as a performer (as spongebob, yes, but also in the other roles i'd seen him in,) and my biggest hope back around 2017 was that he would continue in and be really successful in theatre, get a lot of broadway roles, maybe take on some existing parts i thought he'd really suit, like seymour in little shop or ogie in waitress.......... but instead he booked the role of boq from wicked in a massive hollywood film production instead, where he met ariana grande. THE ariana grande.
and then yeah. at some point, he and grande broke up with their respective partners, (slater leaving both his wife AND newborn son) jumped into a new relationship, and now the whole wider internet knows who he is but certainly not for the right reasons.
there's been speculation regarding whether or not grande and slater had cheated on their previous partners before their relationship began with various sources coming out of the woodwork saying "yes they did" and others saying "no they didn't" -- humans are all perfectly capable of making stuff up, the media especially, so i simply don't know who to trust and i admit it had completely shattered my whole good impression of him - PLUS it gave the wider internet an absolutely awful first impression of him, resulting in, yeah, the (frankly, unflattering, sometimes downright cruel) memes of him popping up on twitter and, as i discovered yesterday, in non-theatre youtubers' videos who would literally never have heard of him if not for the slater-grande romance 🥲
FULL COVERAGE of the situation as it was happening can all be found on the lovely @notasimpleslater's blog under the tag 'ozgate' if you want to delve deeper!
#loren talks#ethan slater#months later let's call this my actual full response/reaction lol#i think at the time this was going down at the end of 2023 i was sort of just Freaking Out like my blood was boiling lol#i was parasocially furious with both of them#ofc now i do realise i'd put him on something of a pedestal#having seen his cute posts about his then wife an former childhood sweetheart plus posts welcoming his new son#AND having watched a youtube mini-series he'd made with his then-brother-in-law. i was SO invested and then.#i was like OH. he really DESTROYED his family huh.#but ofc! every situation is nuanced. we don't know what went on behind the scenes#wrg to his relationship. or what grande's was like with her ex-husband#since everything came to light there's been articles stating that slater wants to work with his ex-wife to share custody of their child#and that he's been spotted backstage WITH his son at spamalot on broadway (his current production)#so it sugggests he's not trying to be an Absent Father#which tracks with some of his own artwork as he and nick blaemire DID write a whole musical about the strained relationship between#a father and son and i just feel like. that suggests something about his personal character. and makes me HOPE he'd want to#be a present and loving parent regardless of circumstance.#anyways.#it's simply not my business BUT. seeing his face#popping up every now and again#it does just. feel extremely weird haha#there's a part of me that's like oh but that's musical spongebob my bestie what's he doing here#as for ariana i really have never had a strong opinion of her#but i have to say hearing her songs out and about these days...... :') i could do without it

Entitled customers are funny, imagine kicking up such a fuss with our managers that 2 mall security guards had to be called to come mediate all because you and your wife not only can't read but also can't see that our menu literally serves soft poached egg, not a boiled egg, in our Japanese rice bowls
Anyway read the menu properly y'all and ask questions if you're unsure, don't be a dick to hospitality workers especially over dumb shit
#this happened yesterday during boxing day#it was truly hilarious to me#this lady came to complain about our egg not being boiled fully#to which my managers were like 'yeah our menu only serves soft boiled it's shown and written very clearly on it'#but apparently this lady wasn't happy with that answer cause she left and then sent her husband back with the bowl to argue!!!!#and my managers were like nah we're gonna call security to mediate cause this guy legit just kept raising his voice#anyway in the time span of waiting for security to show up#this guy literally pulls his phone out to record a negative review of us which lmao alright#and then proceeds to tell customers looking at our menu to not order from us cause we've got bad food#they still ordered from us anyway with 1 customer saying to my coworker that they hoped he left soon cause he was making them uncomfortable#anyway security shows up and them + the guy + my managers talk for like 10+ minutes#with this guy apparently mentioning at one point that he wants us shut down#just to remind y'all if you're reading this that this is all over a soft boiled egg that is very clearly shown on the menu#and the whole thing ended with 1 of the security coming in to the shop to watch us remake the bowl without the egg#because apparently the guy was afraid we'd do something to his bowl#security looked done with this and apologised to us for this guy being so rude#also before anyone says anything both this guy and wife were fluent in English so it wasn't a matter of them not being able to read our men#and also again our bowls show a very obvious not hard boiled egg#anyway i hope they had an awful day afterwards for being such entitled dicks to us

the most upsetting thing to me about sam on private practice isn’t even that he started off as a somewhat likeable character and ended up being the worst. it’s that the entire show keeps trying to tell me what a “good guy” he is. like every character on the show is always going on and on about what a great person he is and what a decent man he is but his actions just tell me the exact opposite. it drives me absolutely nuts when a show just tells you how you’re supposed to feel about a character regardless of what their actions tell you.

I had this all beautifully typed out but then my phone died before I got to send it so now I'm typing it out again but less thought out. :)
So I have been reading this book and it really got me thinking about Dick and how choice is essentially something that I feel would be important to him. I say this because I was looking at your projection post with Roy and Dick and I wonder if I was projecting because of what I have seen in editorial and just what I know of Dick in general. I'm mentioning choice because in this book this character is involved with this girl who everyone just decided since they were young that they would be together and since their families are so tied together it seems like it is a win for everyone, but the character himself feels so strongly against it and he says something to her that gave me that huge lightbulb moment where it just screamed Dick Grayson. I know I'm not naming names here and I'm doing it for a reason, but I think you know what relationship I might be talking about and that I might have tied this to, but what I would give for writers to acknowledge that Dick not wanting to be in a shadow of something and wanting a choice.
I know you were making light in that post but I feel like the time Dick got angry about Myand'r is a good base for a jumping off of as well but also a good pointing the finger because though it might not be the same don't Dick and Kory have a certain feeling towards their father figures that makes them a little similar yet so different? What they could see in the other what the can't see in themselves.
Anyway, Emily I have to tell you about the rest of this book because it is so bonkers. So Basically two brothers living on their farm with the older brother's wife. The older brother was left the land and the younger brother was left the house. Anyway, The older brother can't have children and him and his wife have tried, but then he gets this idea since they don't love each other romantically his younger brother and wife could have a child and no one in their town would be the wiser. Of course the younger brother and wife are offended at first but they also start discovering that they have begun to look at each other in a different way. Anyway older brother has to go buy a bull for the ranch and leaves †hem alone for a a week where they are really trying NOT to think of what the husband had asked of them.... yup. That's as far as I got right now but I am intrigued. lol.
I would say in regard to the relationship I believe you're referring to, Dick did have a choice in it, and initially, he was actually the pursuer in the relationship. With DC's retcon, I can see where a story like the one you're reading could've been a storyline for Dick, but I feel like Dick's path is different.
As for Dick not wanting to be in the shadow of something, I'm not sure if you're referring to his love life specifically or in general, but I'd say they showed successful character progression for him by having him transition to Nightwing. That was the ultimate moment for him to step out of Bruce's shadow and set himself apart as the leader of the Titans.
Ohhh you mean when Dick popped off for the way Myand'r treated Kory?
"This so-called paradise was paid for with your flesh, your heart, your life! What has he sacrificed? He lived in glory while the citadel nearly destroyed you." - TNTT (Vol. 2) #16
You know what, I never really thought about that before (Dick and Bruce vs. Kory and Myand'r) but that's an interesting topic to get into. I'd have to reread the Komand'r/Tamaran arc to get into it more, but there's definitely something that could be said about Dick's devotion to Bruce out of loyalty, love, and trauma while Kory's is less devotion to her father and more of a devotion to her father's cause of saving millions of lives. There could also be a comparison to Myand'r selling Kory into slavery for what he thought was the greater good, and Bruce abusing Dick into joining Spyral for what he thought was the greater good. Interesting, interesting. Much to think about.
👀 You'll have to tell me what happens in your book when you finish it. I hope the older brother and the wife get divorced. Now I'm curious if they're religious because, depending on the religion, that could keep them from wanting to divorce. Although, if the older brother is suggesting that his wife and little brother have a baby together, how religious can they possibly be lmao. And what if the little brother does get the wife pregnant 👀 ? Are the brothers going to fight over custody of the child 👀? That would be wild.

Lockwood: Barnes, can I...?
Barnes: No.
Lockwood: You don't even know what I was going to ask.
Barnes: I don't need to.
Lockwood (starts stomping off): Fine.
Barnes: Where are you going?
Lockwood: To ask your wife instead.
Barnes: She'll say no as well.
Lockwood: Oh no she won't....Oh, hi Mrs B.
Barnes (running after him: Carol! Carol, you are not to give him what he wants! I have already said no!

ok but imagine. lime goes up against the witch king and he fails!!! for one of the first times in his life he fails at something!!!!! but then mochi is able to defeat the witch king and for a sec lime is relieved and he’s so proud of her. he loves her so much. but then he sees a bright light and mochi falls. hes panicking slightly and calls her name quietly then louder as he runs over. the whole battlefield is so quiet bc everyone is like “was that…? did she —“ and once lime reaches her he pulls her body into his lap and takes one look at her face and just SCREAMS. the girl he loves is gone. her eyes are vacant. maybe if he were a little bit stronger he could’ve at the very least helped her defeat him. maybe land the final blow so she’d still be alive and she’d be smiling at him. maybe he’d get to tell her he loved her. but he has to settle for sobbing those words into her hair as he holds her to his chest — to feel her warmth one final time before its gone for good.
btw can totally imagine lime looking up and seeing sulluvan looming over him and lime has a full meltdown saying he won’t let him take mochi
PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
especially since that was the optimum plan.....let lime or taffy kill the witch king so they dont have to worry about if the wrath of the stars is even real or not
imagine if no one even realizes or registers what happened until they hear lime screaming and THEN it starts to settle in that oh god, please no, not mochi, are you fucking kidding me.,..
and as for sulluvan.......100% lime would lash out at him. get the fuck away from her. but i think the way sulluvan operates is a bit two-fold in the sense that he has a presence in the land of the living and the land of the dead at the same time. so yes hes standing near them, watching lime sob and cry and scream and beg over mochis corpse, but he is ALSO in the land of the dead watching mochi (or her soul anyway) doubled over and crying, not ready to face him, and not ready to leave yet,..
sulluvan calls out to her spirit and she says she knows. she knows she has to go. and asks him just give her a few moments before she has to leave
(anyway all that to say that lime couldnt stop sulluvan from taking her soul if he tried. its already happening)

Honestly, If we're talking about female characters who receive misogynistic hate then Lyanna needs to be high up on the list. She gets so much hate for a) her proximity to a male character (Rhaegar) b) the pure fanon that people have invented surrounding her and c) resentment that she's such an important part of the story. And the thing is, for as relevant as she is, we simply do not know enough about her character to justify the hate that she receives. A lot of it is just people inventing reasons to dislike her. I also find it funny that a lot of people who dislike her are Rhaegar antis who characterize their relationship as forced and non-consensual, but then they'll still find reasons to hate her for it. She's supposedly bratty and immature, but also somehow intentionally seductive and evil for "stealing" Rhaegar and hurting Elia 🙄. I wish people would learn to separate canon from fanon when it came to discussing these characters.
