Here's what I've got for any crumbs of lore:

Uhhh I guess if I had to put a label on it I'd call it some kinda science vs mythos au ????

Basically, Dr. Kaiba (cause he's a scientist with a doctorate, smart boy) works at a highly classified facility (think like SCP) and finds himself assigned to a relatively new and infamous subject (it's Wheeler). The subject is tied to all kinds of rumors, which gained it quite a scary reputation, much to Kaiba's dismay. Unexpectedly, when Kaiba turns up to the job, he finds that the subject is nothing like the rumors. It even calls itself by a name: Joey.

The general idea would be a sort of freedom vs captivity struggle. Kaiba and Joey would have very conflicting perspectives, Joey feeling as though he's just here temporarily to help out and learn about the world (loosely calling himself a diplomat, albeit his trip is not official) meanwhile Kaiba fully acknowledges him as a lab subject to study that has no means of escape.

I also like the idea of Joey falling first, but Kaiba falling harder :3c

They're elves of the shadowfell, normal human height. They specialize in teleportation and invisibility, with the casters among them throwing in confusion and fear and illusion. Be careful though, as any trained in combat start making non-elves slower and worse while within 10 feet. From depression, from the sound of it. Their angst about being more ancient and timeless than you wordlessly attaches to you like a parasite, slowing you down. Good for if you enjoy concepts like-

Shadows, but like DARKER than shadow, that lash out when they're moody

looking beautiful unless in shadow, in which case they're corpselike

ignoring pointless things like "comfort" and "morals" and "rules"

being the chosen of the Raven Queen, and on her behalf collecting dark tragedy, sorrow, and feelings of loss.

being corpse pale with jet black hair, pure black eyes, and covered with tattoos/piercings/anything that would make a generic white suburban mom in the 50's scream in terror.

Lumping them all together because they're all the same outside one having mage hand and such. Idc what weapon they're holding.

(pause as we look at the date)#...actually don't worry about it we'll finish it eventually #wereweevil form draws inspiration from both mantids and wild boars!#we're going with the theory that weevils and primal weevils are NOT the same species #but rather different species entirely that tend to cohabitate and have some aesthetic similarities because of it #golden path weevils are a VERY altered form of weevils that have adapted very far from their original form over time #and primal weevils are a member of superorder dictyoptera split off from an ancestor like...#googling it suggests the common name we're familiar with is not actually common since it didnt bring up results but the wood mantis #but honestly it could either be a split from one of the Flat Fuck mantids or a roach w those raptorial forelegs #while golden path weevils have evolved specifically to eat seedlings and are most likely a split of acorn weevil #primal weevils are Something Else Entirely and have the “everything and the kitchen sink” diet of a roach #though they do prefer plumplings and have over time developed teeth specifically for cracking them open and eating them #their mutualistic relationship with golden path weevils stems from this: cracking open otherwise difficult plumpling prey for GP weevils #and receiving the benefits of a pack of allies for hunting more difficult prey in return #primal weevils are most likely an awakened species from what we've seen of canon but we doubt roaches would acknowledge them #as related much less potentially another form of roach #seeing as the roaches in game seem to be purely based on a handful of “pest” species and not the absolute wealth of roach species out there #that have unique adaptations or mimicry or anything of the like #we don't think they would take well to mimic roaches or anything of the like. also ties in to our hcs for levi.#if youre not one of the core species of roach then you dont get considered a “roach”. there are probably plenty of mimic roaches out there #just not acknowledged as Roaches because the Roaches bugarians are familiar with were a single culture with only a handful of species

been thinking about how some sonic characters have last names and some dont and i wonder what the in universe reason for that is.. maybe its just a simple cultural difference. as in little animal guys from some places have them and others dont. or maybe its not common for them to have last names at all and its mostly the ones who spent a lot of time around humans at a young age and adopted human behaviors who have them which is what happened with amy. or maybe most little animal guys DO have last names but its a common practice to not disclose it, especially if youre a public figure or just dont want people digging around in your personal life for whatever reason. like for example shadow choosing to say his name is shadow the hedgehog instead of shadow robotnik because that last name might raise a lot of questions he doesnt feel like answering. but even if it is that third option and everyone has a last name we just dont know about i still dont think sonic would have a last name. not having one just feels right for him

#IDK IM REALLY OBSESSED WTIH THINKING ABOUT LIKE. little mundane details about the sonic universe that dont really matter that much #or arent super relevant to the main plot anyway #i feel like the actual explanation though is that the creators just didnt think about it #because most of the non human sonic characters who have last names were created in the very early days of the franchise #when they probably didnt have all the lore and rules of the universe figured out just yet #so they just. gave some last names while not really thinking about the implications of it i guess #actually sometimes its kind of unclear if rose is amys last name or just an extension of her first name #i remember in archie sonic the other characters constnatly called her amy rose instead of just amy #while other characters with last names would just be called their first name (like tails. sally. bunnie. etc)#but i can also only think of one single instance where she was referred to as amy rose the hedgehog #but that was just a time where her species was relevant to the conversation and thats why they said her name like that #< i mean one instance in the entire franchise btw not one instance in archie

Getting together some Malayan flying fox refs and the amount of ai-generated faux-bat slop is incredibly annoying. Why would you generate an image of something you could just look up photos of, poisoning the pot of decent reference images?

#also ai generated images make me feel sick. like not morally- i dont like em to be clear- but like actually kind of physically unwell #which is not what i want when looking at my special little guys #it /is/ interesting to see which bat species are well known or popular enough for this to be an issue though #because pretty much no other bat species that I've seen has had this problem #even well known pretty ones such as honduran whites n stuff #I reckon its a combination of their exceptional size and general doggy-ness meaning they're especially cute or appealing to try n replicate #just my two cents though and i know my perception of which bats are more well known or popular is probably skewed #someone called some bat recs i gave out basic once which hurt my feelings but also i dont think any bat recs can be basic because like #broadly speaking most people range from vaugley liking them in passing but not being able to name any types to outright hating them #but I digress. back to drawing.#not bats
