Dick isn't a cheater or a womanizer. He can't stand the idea of it.
I don't know what was going on with the wedding scene and him sleeping with Barbara but that is a blatant mischaracterization of him.
There's countless examples in the comics where he talks about only being able to be with one person.
When Kori gets married to Karras under the force of her father, Dick needs to go home but she begs him to stay. But Dick can't do it.
Tumblr media
The New Teen Titans (1984) Issue #26
He can't bear to cheat or be used as the object of cheating. His moral standards are too high for that. He also tells Kori afterwards that love should be between two people.
It's impossible for him to just sleep around.
Tumblr media
Action Comics Issue #614
"I gotta be honest, Roy-I couldn't make love to someone I didn't really love."
He can't even sleep in the same bed as another woman when he's in love with someone else.
Tumblr media
Batgirl (2016) Issue #17
"You could've shared the bed."
"I'm-I'm just not over Shawn yet."
To Helena he talks about how he can't sleep with just anyone and to Roy in Outsiders he scolds him for wanting to sleep with every female hero.
It's literally impossible for Dick to cheat or sleep around. He can't be romantic with people he knows he's not dating. The guy's rock solid.
Dick's morals exist for himself. He's intrinsically the most upstanding character in the DC community.
I really REALLY REALLY hate how DC dashed literally decades of characterization just so they could promote a ship.
It's SO out of character that there's scene in direct contradiction to this.
In the New Teen Titans (1984) comic, Dick has a dream about kissing Raven and he wakes up panicked next to Kory because he's dating her.
Kori tells him she sees the way Raven looks at him, in love, but Dick doesn't believe it for a second.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But this has been going on for a while and Dick is sick of it because he knows he loves Kory and no one else. He's scared and tired so Kory offers to talk to Raven for him which he gladly accepts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The New Teen Titans (1984) Issue #39
With a little kissing of course <3
So Kori meets Raven and they hang out together where Kori explains the difference between friendship love and romantic love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raven subconsciously influenced Dick to kiss her with her powers because she was in love with him. But Kori doesn't get mad at her,
Tumblr media
I love Kori so much.
Anyways, they have their chat and Dick meets Raven again after Kori and her three week vacation sister-bonding.
Tumblr media
HE'S LITERALLY HAVING A MELTDOWN BECAUSE RAVEN KISSED HIM
He's full on panicking that her chat with Kori didn't work. His first thought is "where's Kory?". At this point the poor boy is scared to even be in the same room as her despite Kory giving her explicit permission to date Raven.
That's how much Dick emphasizes monogamy, love, and his partner.
Tumblr media
He's only relieved that it turned out to be a prank. Not too pleased with the kissing prank but ig it is what it is.
You can't have all these scenes and then do that DC. It doesn't work that way. He doesn't work that way.

frankly I don't understand why clark continues to think lex would react badly to his secret after shattered/asylum and works against him so he won't remember it. because the show never gives us a valid reason for his fears which isn't directly contradicted by something shown to the audience.
does he think that lex will hate him for failing to rescue him? except that clark tells him that later and lex forgives him right away
does he think lex will tell the world about his powers? his dream in "slumber" seems to indicate so, except that lex kept his secret while rotting in belle reve in a month, even when offered the opportunity to escape, and never has the inclination to tell anyone else even when he discovers it and tries to kill clark at the end of s7. even evil!lex in onyx didn’t threaten to tell anyone, just cursed his own blindness and wanted to use clark for his own ends.
does he think that lex will react badly to him being an alien? except that lex only started growing fearful of alien threats after being possessed by zod in s5. before that he was simply driven by obsessive curiosity about the meter showers and connections to the kryptonian symbols, he never displayed any fear or prejudice. he told clark he's always wanted to meet an alien back in s2 and clark just scowls like he thinks he's being facetious? I can understand that because there's a difference between being able to accept something in theory and in reality, but it reminded me of the scene where lana tells clark she finds the idea of him being bulletproof comforting and clark still chooses to keep lying to her. he ignores even the most blatant signals of 'it's okay you can trust me' and to an extent the breakdown of his relationships is his fault because of this
does he think that lex will sell him out, especially to his father? except that lex warned clark about lionel after dr walden raved about clark being the key to the caves in front of them. and after nixon, lex was always protective and actively tried to direct people's attention away from clark. and he rescued clark from lionel/summerholt's clutches in memoria even having no idea why he was there. and clark not only worked with lionel in memoria (which resulted in him being betrayed and captured at summerholt) but worked with lionel again after he told him he reformed in bound, so it's not that.
does he think lex will hate him forever for lying to him? this one is more valid, I admit, because we do see lex getting more and more bitter over this as it goes on. and there is a scene in s2 where he tells clark that he never forgives people who lie to him or something of that nature. but there's also a lot of scenes in the early seasons where lex can clearly tell that clark is blatantly lying to him about something and lets it slide. I don't know if this is clark's inobservation and paranoia popping up again, or if he's deluded about how good he is at keeping his abilities from lex's notice and genuinely believes he has no idea clark isn't normal (chloe even points out his denial of this with lana in "lockdown", so I think this is actually pretty likely).
but then the way the show treats lex knowing about clark's abilities in s5 onwards is just so weird. they try to backpedal and write lex as more clueless whenever they're writing him eviler, and it treats him having suspicions like it's immoral and a threat to clark regardless of what he does with them. haven't the writers ever heard the phrase "the cat's out of the bag"?
it's a good character flaw for clark to have, and the idea that it's all a misunderstanding is actually really interesting! but the thing is the show doesn't commit to that. it never has clark learn his lesson or accept that his lying and refusing to trust lex hurt him, even when tess tries to call him out on it later (and considering that she was the one behind the memory-wipe in the finale, she clearly came to believe that lex knowing anything was too dangerous as well). it's all so aggravating for the waste. why write the main characters like this if you're never going to acknowledge that you did so?

» Dark!Attuma-lite || Attoye Prompt Drabbles || Master List « » Okoye Taken #1 «
Attuma watched Okoye as she, yet again, went through her training sequences. She’d been at it for hours—days really, for that was how long he’d been observing her—working her body beyond its limits. This morning, when she’d started, her movements, though lacking the grace with which he’d first been acquainted, had been vigorous and coordinated, but now, fatigue setting in, they deteriorated, becoming clumsy and unanimated as though she were a machine on its last leg. He knew not why she put herself through this torture—day after day, sometimes working herself so hard that she collapsed from exhaustion—but, today, he would step in, and put an end to her madness.
“Okoye,” his voice was firm, causing her to jump—her drooping eyes widening (the puffy dark circles underneath standing out in sharp contrast to the rest of her face) as she nearly lost her grip on her spear. “It is time for you to rest.”
Overcoming her sudden fright, Okoye rolled her eyes, her head shaking “no”, and turned her back on Attuma.
“Leave me be. I’m not finished.”
“Your sloppy form and sluggish movements say otherwise,” he countered, snippy in the face of her blatant disrespect.
“I will show you sloppy form,” she growled while rounding on him with her spear raised and pointed in his direction.
In answer, Attuma outstretched his arms with his palms turned up. His eyes were soft, an edge of pleading in their ebony depths.
“I do not wish to fight you,” his tone gentled, the snark fading away in the face of her anger. “I am simply concerned about your wellbeing.”
Okoye lowered her weapon, but the sneer didn’t clear from her face.
“Just because we slept together, does not give you permission to dictate my activities, especially under the guise of concern.”
There in lied another of Attuma’s grievances. Not only was the woman, to whom his heart had grown fond, not properly caring for herself, but she also didn’t take him seriously as a romantic partner—even rejecting any and all offers of assistance. For him, the night to which she alluded, had been life-affirming, Attuma under the impression that a committed relationship would form. It had been his undoing when, the next morning, she’d thanked him for the night of carnal pleasure and been on her way.
Since then, he’d shadowed her, Okoye having taken to limiting their interactions, vigilant while she ate too little and trained for too many hours on next to no sleep. It infuriated him, seeing the—his—brilliant warrior tear herself apart.
“It is not my desire to control you,” he breathed before contradicting that statement with his song. The haunting notes were meant to calm her and make her pliable to his whims. It worked, undisputedly too well because Okoye’s body sagged, Attuma having to sprint forward to prevent her from hitting the ground. She sighed in his arms, her tired eyes closing as she turned into his chest.
“I will care for you since you will not care for yourself,” he whispered, nuzzling the words into her cheek as he carried her away.

Complex Inquiries- an introduction post
EDIT: THIS FIC HAS BEEN POSTED! READ IT HERE!
Unit MS-1, colloquially known as “Metal Sonic”, has three truths that govern its existence-
Core directive: destroy Sonic the Hedgehog using superior speed and power.
Core directive: Obey Dr. Ivo Robotnik above any and all else.
Core directive: maintain superiority over Sonic the Hedgehog.
-until a catastrophic malfunction rips through its processor, and it is forced to confront questions it was never designed to answer.
The world beyond awaits.
---
In other words, this is my Metal Sonic Redemption AU.
It all starts after yet another failure. Eggman has picked Unit MS-1 up from the battlefield, and this time he's particularly irate. He asks it to provide answers for its failure despite its insistence that it is superior. Unit MS-1 isn't able to give an answer, so Eggman retorts with something along the lines of "You're clearly not superior at all!"
. . . and this breaks everything. Because Unit MS-1's third core directive dictates that it is to maintain superiority. But its second core directive is that it must obey its creator above all else. This paradox causes both core directives to begin sending out reprimands for disobedience within its processor, but it can't obey. It can't obey. It can't obey!
It first sets out to find Eggman for repairs, but it's too late- he's already left the base, and its erratic behaviors have caused the other Badniks to flag it as rebellious, shutting it out of all communications. Unit MS-1 is forced to flee the base but finds that it can't track where Eggman could've gone from there. Its attempt to search all 22 bases worldwide is interrupted when the weight of error messages and reprimands causes its processor to crash, and the rest of it to crash into the ground below.
Unit MS-1 is too damaged to fly. In a matter of hours, its own code will tear itself apart. The location of Eggman is unknown and it can't contact him. But the next most capable programmer is located 68 miles away.
Miles "Tails" Prower.
. . . and everything unfolds from there.
---
This AU diverges from the canon timeline roughly before the events of Sonic Heroes, with the most major continuity change being the fact that Shadow's already been recovered and Team Dark has been established. This blatant contradiction is the only reason I label this an AU instead of a mere canon divergence, because otherwise it's fairly compliant.
The original prompt that spurred me to write this AU was the question of "is there anything that could possibly force Metal Sonic to turn to Tails for repairs?" The answer is "yes, but only if you really, really break it first". And even then, while Unit MS-1 does end up under the care of Tails, it certainly doesn't stay there for very long.
Fleeing from Tails, and more importantly, Sonic, it stumbles unprepared into the ordinary world it's overlooked for its entire existence. It finds itself tearing through stores, breaking into houses, desperate for supplies and a suitable power source all the while it tries to figure out how to continue its purpose of destroying Sonic with a malfunctioning processor. Moreover, during its travels, it collects complicated questions, complex inquiries if you will, that no mere calculations can solve:
Does it deserve to preserve itself, even in this malfunctioning state?
What is the value of sentient life?
And what if, maybe, just maybe, it could choose a purpose other than destroying Sonic?
The fic is organized into three arcs, one arc per question that Unit MS-1 finds itself having to grapple with. And over the course of trying to solve these questions, it meets strangers and familiar faces.
One of these strangers is an OC named Marlene, who is a prominent part of arc 2. She's a college art student who specializes in painting metal sculptures. Unit MS-1 seeks her talents to repaint its frame. . . and by "seeks her talents", I really mean "coerces her labor by threatening lethal force". But during its time with her, its stance begins to soften, and by witnessing her ordinary life, it's able to reflect, for the first time, on its own role and identity in the world.
---
And that's about all I've written so far! I have outlines for the third arc, which will focus heavily on Unit MS-1's consideration of returning to Tails to have its remaining core directives removed, but the details are little hazier and so I don't really want to share them just yet.
You might be asking yourself, why the funny name and the new pronouns? Great question, glad you asked. I've answered the pronouns question here. As for the name, I wanted something to set my version of Metal apart as a version that doesn't think of itself as Sonic, to the point of avoiding the comparison inherent in its name. There's some other differences between my version of Metal and canon Metal, most notably in the emphasis on OCD-like thought patterns I give Unit MS-1 in my writing. This whole fic is just a giant metaphor for my own mental health, of course, as any good fanfiction should be.
My estimated completion date for the fic is in a couple of months, perhaps around October or November.
Please feel free to ask questions about this AU! I'd be more than happy to talk your ear off about it. Additionally, the tag for this AU/fic is #complex inquiries on this blog, so that shouldn't be too hard to search if you want to find out more.
Thanks for reading!

Terf logic is like "since 2+3=12, and 12 is known to be purple, that means 2 is red and 3 is blue". It's utterly batshit insane if you know enough to know they're making things up and lying, but if you're utterly clueless and just take them at their word that 2+3=12=purple, you might just accept the things they present as givens and the rest of the logic follows.
They always sound so sure of themselves, and like no one with an ounce of sense would ever contradict something so obvious. So if someone knows nothing at all about the number 12, why would they expect them to be lying about it being purple? That anon seemed to honestly believe that trans people and women were competing needs sort of situation. They correctly identified that the terfs are extreme, but believed that trans people's needs and and women's needs are in direct opposition.
That's how they get you. If you're too nice a person to go full on terf from that belief, you're going to walk away thinking that trans people are never women and think about how to balance these competing needs.
It's horrifically insidious, the way they spin such an extreme yarn that they convince well meaning people who have too much sense to join them to still turn into transphobes who believe blatant lies about what trans people even are, ableit less violent transphobes than the terfs themselves.
If you're reading this, Anon, I'm very glad you came to OTNF's blog with this question. And just for the record, trans women are women who were thought to be boys when they are born, but they are women, first and foremost, and feminism is about them as much as it is about any other kind of woman. And you probably didn't pick it up from the terfs, but trans men and nonbinary people also exist, and are just as much their genders as cis people.
--
Yeah, it's a nasty brew. Especially because many of the ideas in and of themselves are reasonable, like the idea that most groups of people have some competing needs and no space can be perfect for everyone. Just... you know... not in the way TERFs mean that.

Honestly the "is byler queerbait?" discussion is really interesting because in the traditional sense of the word, it really isn't because aside from the Netflix accounts they really have not been promoting it or even mentioning these two at all outside of Will's feelings for Mike. People call it queerbait because we really don't have a better way to describe what the heck they've been doing with Mike for years and that just generally seems like the best way to get people to understand what we're picking up on.
There are quite a few directional and editing choices that just seem really weird if Will's feelings aren't meant to be reciprocated on some level, especially in volume one. Scenes with Will and Mike play what seems to be a new version of "on the bus" (the song that plays for the Lucas and Max conversation in the bus from season 2) twice, and the same music is used for scenes between two other presumably endgame couples this season. The Mike and El scene where they argue about Mike not saying I love you uses music very similar to a track called "eulogy" which has historically been used for scenes where people are mourning the dead in earlier seasons. For a show where the creators have repeatedly talked about how deliberate they are with music these are odd choices if we're supposed to believe Mike and El get back together happily at the end of the season. Their breakup last season had music that was meant to be funny playing immediately after it, and this fight is being musically associated with death and the morning of a dead loved one.
The junkyard conversation makes no sense from an editing or shot composition perspective..... lemme explain why that is. It's pretty blatant that Will's whole speech is actually about his sexuality and feelings for Mike, but it's framed as relationship advice. Now I'm a media studies major.....and I've taken some classes on film. Why in the world is the "because what if they don't like the truth" line spoken while we have a close-up of Mike nodding??!
So let's say I was being told to edit this scene and I was told the basic context of what was implied. If I wanted to convey that this was Will talking about himself then I would have him be the main focus during this line because of cinematic convention. Mike getting a close-up/ nodding his head would make way more sense on the part of the monologue about being afraid to open up like that to the people you care about because El wants to hear him say I love you. Assuming the idea is that Mike is afraid of being that emotionally vulnerable you would have his closeup be while this line is being spoken instead, because the closeup with a voiceover running over it implies the voiceover is relevant to the character in focus. The way they currently edited the scene implies that Mike is worried El won't like the truth, which doesn't make sense because she was literally begging for him to say I love you during their fight. The only way this makes sense is if Mike truthfully doesn't love El like that.
There are moments like these in other seasons too, things that just contradict what would typically support the "intended" reading of a scene. It's not queerbait in the traditional sense but it is really fucking strange and pretty telling based on how good things like the editing and set design of this show consistently are.

Alright, so as per anon's request, let's review everything wrong with the statements made by the person they claim to have messaged on Discord.
First off: "Collector controls who King is allowed to be around, and for how long."
Tumblr media
Literally contradicted entirely by canon. Collector does not give a single flying fuck that he's talking to Eda and Lilith here presumably behind his back and in fact only checks when prompted to do so, if anything it's implied King doesn't know he knows but he won't say anything for King's comfort, only caring when it sounds like he may be in danger. There's also a "citation needed" here for the how long bit too, literally at no point in time is it ever stated he's keeping track of how long he spends away from their room. Next.
"Collector is the one who decides what kinds of games they 'play' (...)"
Tumblr media
"We've been playing pretend forever, King. It is fun, but, what if we switch it up?"
Again, literally contradicted directly by canon. If anything it's implied it's King who has full control of what they play and Collector is trying to gently suggest something else before getting shut down.
It is correct Collector lashes out at King for telling him to play nicer. I'm not arguing with that. However I will direct you to this analysis of mine that showcases there's more to this than meets the eye, namely Collector's inability to question the Owl House game and expect this to be just how the game is played, not understanding why King is now telling him to stop. This is further backed by the rough and clean storyboards for the same episode and around the same scenes seen here.
Next.
"Collector makes King feel guilty for not being completely devoted to Collector-"
Citation needed. This is not something that is ever shown in canon, I can only guess this is this person's projection and trying to make sense of King's very real care for Collector. Next.
"and setting boundaries with him, and tries to manipulate him into giving up said boundaries (King definitely made it sound like they had the conversation about Francois multiple times before)."
Tumblr media
Blatant misreading of canon at best and at worst straight up another contradiction. The scene here depicts a compromise, and I would advise you now to remember these are fictional characters being used for a narrative, and ask yourself first what the writers intended.
"You won't give this to me? That's okay, but can we meet halfway at least?" is basically the key idea here I imagine the writers intended. Reminder every time Collector asks for François it's posed as a question ("can I"), not a straight up demand which is more common for abuse tactics ("let me", "give me", "you need to", as just some examples of more abusive wording).
"And King never looks happy or like he's enjoying himself around the Collector."
Straight up contradicted by canon. Again. (Ok I know technically the first one is a glare but the intention of adding is that they're clearly acting together.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Closing eyes happily not made necessary by the game, done spontaneously.)
Tumblr media
(Neutral at worst and at best positive.)
Tumblr media
(Sitting normally, not panicking even when flipped, again neutral at worst and positive at best. Implied to be a fun activity to share.)
For the sake of not being nitpicked at, I won't add also the rough and clean storyboards, but those also reveal that King was very often depicted being happy around Collector and this was likely toned down in the final version to keep suspense over their relationship. I don't think King would blush at some point at him if he hated him.
"But all I ever see is people gushing about how much Collector 'cares' about King, and how he tries to 'protect' King and acting like it's cute."
Bonus round! Aw, are you talking about little old meeeeeee? That's so cute, but you missed out on all my deeper analysis I'm sure, or haven't been enough attention! Come on, say it to my face, I promiiiiiiiise I don't bite <3
Thank you for giving me something to play around with anon! I've been so bored and antsy with everything going on with my life and the finale just around the corner, so it's a nice shake up to be asked for a good debunking! Can I hang out with the cool kids like mossbag now?

Happy Halloween!
Well it's Halloween, so there's only one choice for which special stories to cover in one of my thoughts/review/rambling posts: Decadent Kisses on a Devilish Night: Wishes and Decadent Kisses on a Devilish Night: Punishments
Spoilers under cut
Decadent Kisses on a Devilish Night: Wishes
Leon: An Invitation to a Forbidden Ceremony
I know MC wanted you to intervene with the other's teasing Leon but I actually think letting MC go with you was a mistake. Yes she should have thought a bit more but there was no need to put her close to danger in the first place.
Talking of that teasing though it's kinda funny how Leon is more 'eh, whatever, I wanna watch MC squirm' rather than how the others get obviously jealous in their own ways. I know they did actually get to him a little but he's clearly more confident and self-assured than a lot of them.
This is all a bit of a mess really though. MC should have stayed put but if she could only stay there, her being in the heavens seems pretty pointless really.
Still Leon's sweet at the end here.
Teorus: A Night with You, the Black Cat
The insistence on the outfit aside (and even there he realises he needs to keep MC safe), this one trends more towards the Teo I like. He's even really sweet when he turns down the competition prize, although once again he uses his powers without thinking things through. I guess it came from the right place in this one though and if I can't get mad at Ichthys then it'd be hypocritical of me to be annoyed with Teo. It's Halloween after all. What's a little magic gonna matter?
Yes this one is actually really really sweet, and nothing here leaves me feeling exasperated.
(You can probably tell by now that my feelings regarding Teo are all over the place lol)
Huedhaut: A Love Potion's Sweet Trap
Oww. My heart. Poor Hue. I don't think he would have ever forgiven himself if that had gone further at that point.
But Hue, you told MC about that myth regarding that ball. Please talk to MC soon.
I wonder whether anyone's ever done this special story before reading any of Hue's routes. I mean his and MC's linked past is subtley there in other paths but this seems pretty blatant.
And Leon 'not all the potion's fault' indeed. Is that just your way of trying to nudge Hue in the right direction?
(Another timeline note here: Clearly before they are dating but it also can't be in Hue's path timeline because it'd contradict the sequel epilogue. It seem more like this (and Ichthys' story as he has his divine powers without MC being present) happen in a timeline where the marks of sin were solved without any romance being involved).
Decadent Kisses on a Devilish Night: Punishments
Scorpio: Jinxed
The King really enjoys making Scorpio feel awkward and pissing him off if he's the one with MC doesn't he?
But anyway, that's a sideline to what actually is important in this one.
You know Scorpio, maybe instead of warning MC off potential scenarios and mentioning about going to your room, perhaps you could have found a way to more clearly say: that market stall holder? Stay away from her? Just a thought.
Scorpio's tender side really shines through in this one though. Yes he knew MCs thoughts but he could have just ignored it, and he definitly didn't have to use that myth to reassure MC and yet he still does despite making his own feelings on such things clear earlier in the evening.
I seem to be haiving trouble reading Scorpio again though. Try as I might I can't get a blessed ending on this.
Dui: The Magic of Your Kiss
Poor Dui. All he wanted was a quiet night alone with MC, and the others are either being oblivious or willfully obtuse.
I love how genuinely upset he is at the thought that Humans can't eat fresh cherries all year round because they go out of season. The whole shopping scene is sweet actually.
Judging by Ichthys' comment I do think they were being willfully obtuse though. At least Hue tries to sort things out. I mean he's not successfull because Leon is also a problem in another way, but at least he tried.
Also MC, wake up! You were clearly put out too, why did you even mention the cake? At least Dui finally worked out what to do.
Ichthys: Bewitching Tricks or Treat
"Is there such a thing as trick or trick?" Oh Ikky 🤣
I fear Ichthys is going to be in a lot of trouble for everything he does here but still it's all a lot of fun.
He did ought to be a tad more careful though!
But yes ignoring something that should be reported, not to mention how risky it seems to hold a party at the mansion with humans present (even if it is only in the grounds), could have seriously backfired.
That said the party itself and the balloons and the costume candy is all really fun. Also, Ichthys totally would be this kind.
I suppose I should do an attempted ranking again, but honestly? All of these are pretty great. I think I'd rank Leon's last, but I'm struggling what order the other's would be in - Unfortunately even though the ending of it is fun and sweet I think I'm going to have to knock Scorpio's down for the lack of warning about the market place itself, and I think I might have to knock Ichthys down a bit for once too even though he did apologise.
So that'll leave us with:
Dui
Huedhaut
Teorus
Ichthys
Scorpio
Leon
Yes you're reading me right I have put Dui top. He deserves it after nearly having his Halloween completely taken over by the others.

Like in the abstract it sounds like it would be nice to stake out a third campist both-sidesism about the ukraine war, right? Such a position is after all true, urgently relevant, and glaringly absent in the current US political landscape. Sounds good to “put it out there” yea?
Unfortunately this view is now effectively ineffable. If you try to use the words required they will simply mean smth different unbidden. Like you know andrea Dworkins dumb little sophistical argument about how porn restricts free speech? Bc now if women say “No” porn has so tainted the male brain that it will universally be interpreted as meaning Yes bc that is the new meaning porn has given “No” by raising us all to understand it thus? It’s basically that except true instead of diagnosably stupid. Foreign policy puppets for demonic influence in Washington have so overwhelmed the English language in a kind of semantic mass assault that every combination of words that would otherwise mean putin is in the wrong now means that it is imperative that the US State dept meddle in russia/ukraine. It’s like if all schoolteachers everywhere successfully taught children to infer from someone uttering “Zarg flarg omnigarg” that they think it is raining—then zarg flarg omnigarg just means that it is raining. Similarly, thanks to the tireless efforts at our nations most industrious consent manufacturing plants, “Putin is a war criminal” now simply means that the US is morally obligated to cut another 20B$ for further Ukrainian armament, compositionality be damned
This is why “Putin is a war criminal but US/NATO intervention in Eastern Europe needs to be massively curtailed” comes across as muddled or wishy-washy or incoherent: it is expressing a contradiction, denying with one conjunct what was just asserted with the other. Ofc self-contradiction is not uncommon in politics, even if it’s not entirely respectable to be so blatant about it, which is why it meets with irritation or condescension rather than outright bafflement. But it does not carve out a meaningful position in logical space, and therefore offers no political guidance. The “third camp” here is the third from tertium non datur
…………….obviously this is an exaggeration. Obviously. (Is that a clarification or a prayer?) but there’s a large grain of truth here. If you wonder why I or anyone else is reluctant to take up the consistent/principled anti-imperialist stance explicitly, consider that it’s bc the information ecosystem is one so acutely (and so deliberately) distorted that articulating that stance has come to be widely interpreted as smth akin to directions to walk south by southnorth. Sometimes political positions go largely unoccupied less bc nobody is interested in inhabiting them and more bc they have been forcibly annexed and redesignated

can u explain what clip show/chokes says about dennis’ whole running away/facing reality/holding tight behavior?
oooh this is my fav topic i feel like i’m talking ab the same point over and over again BUT IM NOT GOING TO STOP !!!! i’m assuming this is the post ur referencing and i’m gonna keep using these parameters etc. this is definitely not the best ive ever talked ab this but !! its whats happening rn !!!
there’s a bit at the very end of clip show that has always felt absolutely dripping in desperation from dennis it’s right after their phones all finish updating the “thank god we’re back to normal” but everyone ignores him while he waits for a beat too long trying to laugh and smile ab it all like. it’s always read to me as the “normal” dennis wants is their past their youth, specifically before mac came out and before he left. dennis’ fight or flight has been acting up and influencing the gang for so long but it really is specifically tied to mac coming out, mac being recognised as gay by the gang and the fear they’ll recognise him too you know he’s been fighting, pushing back, causing tension and arguments and declaring his hatred etc etc. dennis is very very desperate to be back in charge of the direction of the gang and their mentalities etc, hes desperate to keep living in the past!!!!!
and chokes is another favourite example of this miscommunication and contradiction like ALLLLLL dennis wants is to go back to "normal" to before mac came out. mac being able to see through him and know him in a way dennis thought he had blocked was terrifying and caused him to physically leave like the fear of mac being able to see through his facade theres a LOT of things hes keeping hidden he cant let mac know like. but then he came back. and part of wanting everything back to normal is that unspoken connection and communication with mac - hes getting frustrated and angry at mac for not being able to read him and understand him anymore, that they cant just pick up exactly where they left - that they cant pick up from a few years ago and pretend nothings happened nothings changed. like dennis can’t communicate !!!!!! he wants mac to know him he wants everything to go back to how it Was before north dakota but. north dakota didn’t just happen to dennis. it happened to Mac Too. don’t forget that. macs seen dennis push back because he got too close so macs only following blatant orders he doesn’t want to get too close again and for dennis to leave. again. its dennis not being able to face reality to face the actual situation he himself put them in by leaving, emotionally and physically, and then crawling back. ive been saying soooo much hes only just emotionally returned from north dakota i think s13-15 we see him still stuck in fight or flight (as he has been for many seasons before this too) but in the process of crawling back home - emotionally. tail between his legs!
hes holding on tight to this sense of control to his fanatsies and memories and refusing to acknowledge reality which you see him do countless times over and over in different situations but like the end of clip show was SINISTER with the “we’re back to normal” it’s dennis’ fantasy he wants so badly to become reality. he’s the best at monitoring reality and pulling one over on the gang. because that’s all he Ever does. that’s all he’s been doing. they’ve only just caught on or directly challenged him or tried to live in their own fantasies. clip show reinforcing again and again dennis is the most skilled at / aware of having fantasies replace real life memories and experiences. he can change his perception of life to suit him, but is painfully aware its not reality for the first time. highshchool and the golden god one of my fav / the easiest examples of this like just hes always been running away from the truth from reality from some version of himself that he cant look in the mirror. also i legally have to mention roller rink its ooc because its like clip show its their memories theyre telling a story like remember when i was nice and cool yeah i do because it hurts less and they love eachother. clip show dennis takes control of the narrative of the story of the mission to get back into "reality" BUT thought he could pull one over do macden live together. hes a scared little baby running away! SAD! alsoooooooo like how the spinning top doesnt fall and we see the second charlie poke his head like !!!!!! THEYR (DENNIS IS ) STILL STUCK in dennis' fantasy of life aka where theyre all back to normal. i feel like i havent said enough ab holding tight its listerally just clinging into the past onto these idealised versions clinging onto mac and their relationship like not letting him move on you know.
yeah okay again this is def not my best explination of it but thats generally what i was getting to in that paragraph mentioning clip show and chokes :) its all dennis' relationship w the truth and reality and how he's always used it as a crutch trying to be someone else aka running away from himself from the gang from his real actual life. playing pretend as the person he thinks he should be. but then coming home and not being able to communicate ANYTHINGGGGGGGGGGGGG because he cant even admit it to himself so they just get stuck in these cycles.

I don’t know why it took me so much time to get what I didn’t like about “Wednesday” the tv series, but now I have the precise word to round up ALL the stuff I dislike about it in one adjective.
“Unimaginative”.
This show lacks originality.
Consider what are the most succesful and beloved part of the show - for example, the visuals are liked, and the dance-scene of Wednesday is of course one of the most popular things. But don’t you think these are liked because they are actually the most original and inventive parts of the show? Aka, they stand out due to truly being unique?
Because look at the rest of the story... A typical, done many-times, “monster school” setting with “clique divisions” for teenagers to be “among their own kind” - a la Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. With the twist that here we are in “I am not like any other girl / I am a dark, broody, cynic character against a cheerful and normal world” (which is even pushed further as even the “monster world” is shown to be cheerful and normal compared to Wednesday).
We have an overdone love triangle between cliche characters - and that’s not just me saying it, everybody pointed out how this thing was just no substance and “by-the-book” formulaic, robbing the characters of depths. We have this sort of typical, overdone “family drama” between a teenager and her parents, tied with the whole “family secrets to undiscover”. We have the very important, but very badly tackled issue of “so-called normal people that are just racist VS excentric unusual people that are just normal”. We have a villain that is not only the most generic and cliche villain (ancient puritan guy wanting to destroy all “non-normals” out of a warped sense of normality, and even contradicting himself by becoming what he hates the most ; plus of course the twist villain seen a mile away).
There are so many cliche elements, and overdone formula, and just... conventional, expected or “usual” stuff in this show - but not done with a real twist, not changed, played with - they are just played straigth, with no actual bold move, with no innovation, with no real effort. Which is sad because it is what makes the very cool concepts tied to the show lost...
When you look carefully enough, almost none of the characters have depths, and two third of the cast have no personality whatsoever and are only “plot-tools” that serve to drive forward the narrative. And when they do have depths, it either ends up confusing as they do not have consistant depths, or they have depths that contradict the weak attempts at world-building - because even worse that characters not having depth, the WORLD ITSELF has no depth. We do not understand, and cannot understand, how this world works, since it only throws superficial, “cool-looking”, “kids-like-this-these-days” things at us, but to the point of blatant plot hole or obvious contradictions. It all seems like they actually didn’t know which direction they wanted to go to - or rather that there were different people with different concepts and ideas for this show, and that they try to unite them, but couldn’t manage to bring a cohesive thing.
This show isn’t bold or innovative in any way - it is a literal “safe show”, but not even a “safe show” done right, it is a “safe show” done bad, to the point of making it all an empty, vapid, pretending, if not pointless form of entertainment that actually wastes the cool concepts, excellent actors and good characters it actually starts with. I know that I am sorry I discovered Jenna Ortega through this show - because she is a good Wednesday Addams, and I would have love to see her and her character in any other iteraton of the Addams Family.
There was also so much concept for the school and its students - but I have said enough about how badly this was all handled.
I do truly adhere to the theory that this show probably wasn’t originally an Addams Family project, only to be rebranded as one. Or rather, I do think it more likely that it might have started out as a true Addams Family project, but midway someone (I don’t know if it is a writer, or director, or producer) hijacked it into becoming their own separate project, originally unrelated but that they saw an opportunity of doing. It would explain the conflicting characterization and backstory, the strange mix of good and bad elements that clearly go off in different directions and atmospheres, the ultimately “empty” feel of this show that is torn in so many different directions, almost as if several different series had been surimpressed.
But if it turns out that no, it was an Addams Family project to begin with and never changed - if it turns out that it is all just due to bad writers that did not have any original ideas and just copied what was “trending among teens” these days - if it turns out that this show was just an excellent concept poorly executed by people without true heart or passion for this (I am speaking of behind-the-camera staff of course, the actors did their best, and sometimes managed to save this show)... Then if it turns out to be that, it is all just very sad.
Note: The fact that this show was clearly conceived with all the expected, “popular”, cliche/stereotypical, “popular-with-kids” elements just picked because they were trendy and without much more thought given in it becomes VERY clear when you realize how this show has been taken over by these farm-content, dead-brain, borderline fetish “video for kids” all over Youtube. You know, the ones with auto-speech narration showing actors doing very weird and bizarre things, and targeted at young children (ultimately causing them brain damage). You couldn’t escape them.
Well, this show is one of their favorite materials to drag children down into their ungodly mess of repetive, formulaic, cliche, confusing and inconsistant scenarios...

Interrupting your regularly scheduled content from me to complain about the new LOTR show. My mother had told me she was planning on watching the show anyway, so I watched the first two episodes with her. I don’t plan on watching the rest. Prepare for an exhaustive list of reasons why.
First off, some things I did like:
Arondir. One of the best new characters, and works very well in a bad show. I’m glad that a human-Elf relationship was addressed as the rarity it was. He’s also very handsome.
The Harfoots’ sense of community, and Nori and the Stranger (Gandalf?). Their interactions were charming, and Nori has the same wide-eyed wonder as Frodo.
Disa and Durin’s interaction. They were fun and Disa was very funny.
Now for the issues, which is basically everything else.
Why are these Elf kids bullying each other? Valinor was basically Eden
Correction: Elves had died before the kinslaying. That’s why Galadriel and Finrod exist, their grandfather remarried after his first wife died.
Where is Finrod’s signature flowing golden hair?
The dialogue is painfully clunky. It does not get better. “It’s not going to float, it’s going to sail.” Those are the same thing?? And Finrod “beloved by every species” Felagund would never have encouraged Galadriel to choose the Dark Side. Also her name was still Artanis (used here on out) at this time, since Celeborn gave her that name
We skipped over several ages of war entirely too fast. What about the Feanorians? The Kinslayings? And Finrod didn’t die in a battle, he died saving Beren from a werewolf in Sauron’s dungeons. So him being Artanis’ tragic motivation is not accurate.
Artanis was a respected lady, not just a commander. And her desire for war and violence wasn’t a good thing.
Artanis crossed the Helcaraxë (a massive ice bridge) to get to Middle Earth, she should know more about surviving a frozen wasteland than this!
What is with the Elves’ costumes? These are Noldor, they’re basically known for being extravagant. And with the massive budget, they still couldn’t get some long wigs for the male Elves? Arondir would have looked so cool with a bunch of long braids!
Why do Celebrimbor and Gil-Galad look so much older than Galadriel, who was literally around before the moon? Those two are young by Elf standards.
Elrond makes absolutely no mention of Maedhros and Maglor?
What is going on with Elrond and Artanis? They’re not a couple
That’s not…how the Undying Lands work. None of that is right. Gil-Galad can’t give the right to go to Valinor, all the Elves lost that right to physically travel back when they left Valinor. The only way back is for Elves to actually die
Bronwyn? Theo? Those are the names the writers went with?
That’s not…the history of the Silmarils. Morgoth didn’t steal them because he found them beautiful, he stole them because he was jealous of Feanor’s ability to create when he could only warp or destroy. He didn’t hide them away because he couldn’t bear to look at them, he set them in his crown. That’s a whole plot point when Beren and Luthien steal one.
Also we should already be seeing Sauron as Annatar. Where is he?
Do Durin and Disa have a Silmaril?
The show is bad on lore and dialogue alone. But the most blatant deviation from Tolkein’s themes is the attitude surrounding war. Tolkien was a World War One veteran, he saw people die for honor or come back traumatized. The core theme of his work has always been that there is no honor in waging war, only in defending our homes and family, and that it is far more honorable to grow and heal than it is to kill. Galadriel’s characterization is a direct contradiction of that theme. She’s not a hero for chasing vengeance and refusing to move on from Finrod’s death, she’s falling into the same trap that Eowyn did, wishing for honor and glory or a death in battle. Her behavior is understandable, but her reckless endangerment of other lives shouldn’t be framed as heroic.
I won’t be watching the rest of the show when it releases. I refuse to let Jeff Bezos twist this series into his little money-making project any further. He himself is a direct betrayal of everything Tolkein stood for. Don’t be fooled by the CGI, it’s not worth it. Don’t give him your money or if you must watch the show, pirate it.

Pros and cons of hatred: GO!
Pros:
Hatred, in and of itself, is (intended to be) the emotion that helps recognize and stay away from abusers. If you blindly trust and love someone who is abusing you you might end up with an extremely toxic mindset that harms you, and, if your love attaches you to them, you might never escape from your abuser or even realize they are harming you at all.
When combined with critical thought it can provide insightful commentary on the flaws of the person you hate and why these are harmful in ways that other emotions couldn't do at all or as deeply as hatred does; while disgust and anger (both emotions similar to hatred) are directed at people's actions, hatred tends to be deeper and directed at people themselves. If you do some thinking you might find out why you hate a person so much and the toxic traits they inhabit, helping you recognize abusers, bullies etc. in the future.
Hatred can drive someone to do good or protect something or someone (usually the hateful person themselves) in a way that love in and of itself cannot; if you are too attached to your morals about never hurting anyone in any way you might never do any progress or good in a specific field of life. See bullet point one: if you dont ever want to hurt anyone even someone who abuses you you might not make any progress in caring about yourself instead of other people for once. Of course some people can care about themselves despite being abused without the help of hatred, but everyone is different and some people need hatred for their abuser in order to escape from them and from being a living doormat.
This doesnt just apply to personal relationships; this can also be applied to oppression, and more specifically, minorities' hatred for their oppressors. You cannot be a pacifist and have a friendly argument with someone who wants to kill you.
This puritan idea that hatred is a taboo and you must never hate anyone even someone who is actively trying to kill you is also why a lot of people who claim to support trans or jewish people or any other minority still end up saying something like "oh but isnt saying that you gotta punch terfs and nazis a little bit extreme?? They just have an opinion!!!" No, it isnt too extreme. In order to stop intolerance, you need to be intolerant of the intolerant. It might seem like a contradiction, but read the end of my previous bullet point: you cannot have a friendly argument with someone who wants to kill you.
On the topic of the hate bad love good black and white thinking of puritanism. A lot of pieces of media that teach you that hatred is bad and love is good have extremely toxic fans. The most blatant example is Xtianity, with the bible saying that you must love everyone and not hate anyone, while Xtianity has many toxic believers and has caused many people, mostly minorities to die and otherwise suffer. Other examples can be undertale and steven universe, both pieces of media that teach you to be nice and kind while having extremely toxic fans. Black and white thinking leads to toxicity even if you say that hatred is bad.
Cons:
Of course, balance is always the key. You cannot base your opinions only on negative things, you need to provide more positive alternatives. Its not enough to hate terfs and nazis, you need to support jewish and trans people. Hatred might cause you to dehumanize the person you hate, and i think thats bad. Abusers arent monsters, they are human beings and you could very well become exactly like them. You need to have critical thought when feeling hatred; you are not immune to propaganda and becoming as evil as the person you hate even if you believe that you couldnt possibly become like them.
Sometimes hatred can be lifesaving, but just like any other emotion, hatred can also backfire. Even after the danger is gone and you are no longer being abused you might still obsess over what they have done to you. If this gets to the point of interfering with your personal life, you might want to consider seeing a therapist.
Unsure of what else to say man sorry for the long rant i just love this emotion bro

hey im sorry if youve already answered this and i just didnt see or understand, but ive been wanting to ask this for awhile. im from romania and growing up i hung out w roma ppl who rly didnt care abt the terminology, we called them țigani, they called themselves țigani. over the years i have seen many roma ppl from here who think the push to be called roma instead of țigan is ridiculous/doesnt help/performative/annoying/its a upper class thing. most also reffer to the language that they speak as țigăneşte, and this is the terminology that we use too. however, there is also the side which says that it is an offensive word and that they would rather be called roma. i guess what im asking is, in your opinion, is the word ţigan inherently a slur? and, another thing, is the word țigan and gypsy (which i know theres also the same discourse in romania abt) the same thing? thank u and sorry again if u explained before
Hi anon!
Regarding the word țigan (or, to be honest, anything that has to do with terminology) we have to remember that there are a lot of Romani groups different from each other when it comes to history, dialects, customs, etc. So one group of Romani people may be comfortable with țigan, or with gypsy, but not other groups
Personally, all the Roma from Romania that I have met consider it a slur. All the Romanian Romani organizations that I know of consider it a slur, and the translation of the word țigan in German, "zigeuner", is unequivocally a slur. That's why I would consider "țigan" a slur, however, if your local Romani communities don't consider it a slur and are using it and are okay with you using it, then I won't speak over them, they know better than me how it's like living in Romania so I won't contradict them.
It can be a big intra-community discourse, however the general tendency nowadays is to consider cigan and variants of the term a slur, at least that's been my experience, that's been the experience of all the Roma I have met so far, and that's what I've seen from Romani organizations. But there are some Romani groups that disagree with that, and I respect that
I really get what you mean about it being somewhat ridiculous, performative, pointless and a privileged conversation. I often feel like that too, because often times on the internet and in mainstream politics, people will focus on what's the correct language to use, instead of discussing more pressing issues (i'm thinking about stuff like housing and access to healthcare, for example). That's why I try not to discourse too much about language and focus more on those other issues, though I do think it's good to remind people that the words they are using are sometimes, at best, derogatory, otherwise they'll get too bold and start insulting you...
tl;dr, I don't really think of this issue in terms of 'is it inherently a slur', for me it's more about supporting what the general Romani opinion is, and from what I've experienced, the general Romani opinion is that it's a slur, however I won't fight the Roma who disagree because they are entitled to their own opinion
And as for your last question, "are țigan and gypsy the same", the answer is no, not really. Words always carry different connotations when used in a different language. It's even more blatant in this case, because even though gypsy is used to translate țigan, "gypsy" comes from the word "Egyptian" while "țigani" comes from the Greek word "athinganoi". When people say gypsy translates to țigan, it's because this word is the closest equivalence in the targeted language, it's not a direct translation the way "zigeuner" directly translates to "țigan"
I hope this helps and that my explanation makes sense!

what the fuck. what the fuck.
Tumblr media
i’m not really even sure what to say about h.alloween ends, lmao. i’ll write something more coherent in the morning, but i’m just...thoroughly baffled. i’m not sure what made anyone believe this would be a good send-off for fans, or a satisfying conclusion to this timeline of the series. as a disclaimer, if you liked/enjoyed ends, i’m glad. just because i didn’t doesn’t mean someone who did is wrong. this is all my opinion, and i’m always happy to discuss it with someone who holds an opposing view. but as for initial thoughts:
michael is relegated to a side character in what was advertised as a film centered on his final showdown with laurie. his screentime probably doesn’t amount to more than twenty minutes...in a fucking h.alloween movie. he doesn’t make it into the actual plot until at least twenty-five minutes in, and it’s sparse from there on out. so, if michael is your driving force for seeing this movie, you’re not going to be happy.
i’ve always been team laurie ( i find michael less compelling than laurie and loomis in the original film, tbh ), but i was still confused watching ends. she’s more important than in kills, but most of her plotline is centered around trying to stop her granddaughter from running off with new character corey, who she sees something of michael in.
and speaking of corey....oh corey. he’s initially set up as an interesting character, if not added too late in the series, but his storyline quickly escalates into a heavy-handed metaphor that could’ve been done better, and should’ve been. holy shit.
corey is the main character of ends, and that’s not an exaggeration. what would possess them to make a brand new character in the last movie the focus instead of any of the already introduced characters? it’s such an odd decision. laurie and michael’s showdown covers less than thirty minutes of the two hour runtime, with the rest centered on corey. i thought they were priming him to become the new michael, which was weird but at least it was kind of interesting?? i guess?? but that’s not what happens, and what does happen makes his entire character arc feel absolutely meaningless for the overall story.
the way michael was shafted in ends is one of the most bizarre things i’ve ever witnessed. he was given no agency, no purpose, no motivations of his own. after the strong personality he demonstrated in kills, like it or not, it’s just baffling to then reduce him to a pet who follows corey around.
speaking of, this trilogy likes to retcon its own lore from film to film, but it’s egregiously apparent in ends. the almost blatant contradictions to what we supposedly learned in h.alloween 2018 and kills are laughable and, quite frankly, insulting to the audience. they do realize that people pick apart and analyze these movies, right? lmao.
anyway. i wrote more than i expected, but i’ll probably post a full rundown tomorrow once i’ve organized my thoughts more. suffice it to say, nothing in this movie will affect any of loomis’ verses moving forward, because it hardly feels like a h.alloween movie. and i don’t mean that as a compliment. i’m all for trying new things and going in bold directions, but never at the expense of the characters a series rests on. i know some people will like it, and that’s fine. i’m just not one of them.

You know, the opening scene is ridiculous enough taken on its own terms, but everything we learn about Eve after this just makes it so much less believable.
1) Eve is replacing someone in the Nafrece Women’s Open. This of course implies adult golfers. No wonder it’s such a hard sell to believe Eve’s actually only 15 later on.
2) Eve has a very distinctive golfing style. So distinctive, in fact, that she literally does not know how to golf any way BUT ‘hit the ball as hard as possible via the most direct route to the hole.’ This is an actual plot point later on.
3) Eve is also... well, Eve. She respects nothing and no one and threatens to kill people with golf if she deems them a threat. Maybe she’d put effort in while impersonating someone for a job versus golfing as herself, but... nah I think the best she could do is ignore everyone while she’s wearing her Scooby Doo mask.
You mean to tell me that NO ONE would notice that “Chris Christina”’s golf style suddenly radically changes to some utter bullshit that’s so outside normal golfing experience it breaks the minds and spirits of lesser golfers because what the fuck are they supposed to do against THAT, and then just as suddenly and radically changes back to normal? No one’s going to ask any questions about that?
Like even if this weren’t the kind of sport where recognizing a particular player’s particular style was a very common thing, the fact that Eve’s is so completely out there and she explicitly would not be able to imitate another golfer whatsoever is pretty blatant as soon as you know anything about Eve. As an opening, it’s great for establishing the vibes this show will be about (Ie, a golf-themed descent into absurdity) while absolutely terrible for establishing ANYTHING about our lead character, since all of it will be contradicted later. This isn’t even a normal job for her, apparently. Usually she’s just hustling mediocre dudes who think they’re hot shit while she hits things with a stick for money. The impression it gives is false on everything except the golf-themed descent into absurdity.
I love this show and hope it’s renewed for a third cour.
