canada is burning
hey friends. wanted to draw attention to the unprecedented wildfire season us canucks are currently having (and especially how these have been impacting indigenous communities).
3.3 million hectares of wildland have currently burned across the country. this is 10 times the average amount of fires that we experience per year. there’s air pollution advisories all over, with conditions ranging from persistent smokey hazes to orange skies and a red sun and general hellish atmosphere. communities are burning and people are being evacuated. i’m going to go over which provinces are the most affected along with some links to resources.
*updated 11/07/2023. please link me to any updated resources or personal fundraisers and i’ll edit them in.
QUEBEC:
Tumblr media
currently headlining because they have 160 (mostly out of control) fires and the smoke is hanging over southern ontario, where most of canada’s population lives.
the Algonquins of barriere lake have been displaced. the community has a population of 800, with a number of people living in cabins along traditional traplines. the Maniwaki Native Friendship Centre has been taking in evacuees, as well as providing meals and support. i believe they’ve closed donations for now, but keep an eye on their socials in case anything changes.
edit: mutual aid request for the Algonquins of barrier lake can be found here. physical donations can be dropped off at ramada plaza, gatineau, quebec.
edit: Odawa Native Friendship Centre is taking donations to assist evacuees.
MARITIMES- NOVA SCOTIA & NEW BRUNSWICK:
Tumblr media
following heavy rainfall, people are beginning to return to their homes in NS. due to the location of the fires, ruptured fuel and chemical tanks may have contaminated the groundwater. if you live in NS, free well-water testing kits are beginning to be circulated. samples can be dropped off at the following locations.
the canadian red cross is taking donations to provide humanitarian aid to those displaced in NB and NS, including shelter.
edit: fundraiser for a lost home in nova scotia, having raised almost 2000 of the $8000 goal.
ALBERTA:
Tumblr media
set a record in may for the most hectares burned in a year, sitting pretty at over 1.3 million. the previous fire season was less than 500.
the east prairie Métis have been especially affected, losing 29 homes in a community of only 300 people. while this was in early may, and they’re starting to recover, their official gofundme is here. they’re about halfway to raising $50,000, with the aim to prioritize the 14 families who lost actively lived-in homes. the high prairie friendship centre is also taking physical donations if you live in the area. edit: been made aware that there is a fantastic linktree to individual fundraisers regarding the loss of homes.
edit: fox lake was also forced to evacuate back in early may. Little Red River Cree Nation had to escape across peace river on a barge. they have a fundraiser with 30 of $50,000 raised to purchase baby supplies and household items for the affected.
the canadian red cross is taking donations for alberta as well.
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES:
Tumblr media
K’atl’odeeche First Nation and their neighbouring community hay river were displaced. as of late may, the K’atl’odeeche chief, Martel, is still trying to set up a 100 person encampment for those who were impacted by the fires. while hay river has been allowed to return, there is no timeline yet for KFN. chief Martel says that people from hay river have been ignoring the barricades set up at the reserve and she is concerned for the safety of her community. please be aware that chief Martel has asked photos of the damage not to be shared on social media, as members of her community have not yet been allowed back on the reserve to see it firsthand. sacred sites and traditional traplines have been destroyed. please be respectful.
i couldn’t find many fundraisers for the NWT, unfortunately. it appears that united way is taking monetary donations, yellowknife evacuation centre is taking giftcards, and the yellowknife salvation army is accepting physical donations.
SASKATCHEWAN:
Tumblr media
in early may there were wildfires in northern sask that displaced the Clearwater Dene Nation. i wasn’t able to find any updates or fundraisers on the situation, but their live map indicates there are still 4 uncontained fires. you can imagine this is not good on a huge swath of flat, hot, dry land full of flammable grass.
*NEW* ONTARIO
i’ve been made aware of a fundraiser for the Anishinaabe of Grassy Narrows. last year, their one and only fire escape route was washed out by flooding. as canada experiences its worst fire season in years, it’s absolutely crucial that this road be repaired as soon as possible. they’ve currently raised about 16k of their 40k goal.
since the community banned industrial extraction (logging/mining) the ontario government has stopped maintaining the roads in the area. Grassy Narrows deserves justice and support during these hard times.

Hi so I’m an incoming freshman I have autism and ADHD I was wondering do you have any tips for high school specifically for people with autism and ADHD like me? Thank you for your time!!
Hi there,
It’s been out of school since 2015, so I’m rusty with tips. However I did find one article listing 12 tips that might help:
1. You don’t need ONE study space.
A well-stocked desk in a quiet place at home is key, but sometimes you need variety. Coffee shops, libraries, parks, or even just moving to the kitchen table will give you a change of scenery which can prompt your brain to retain information better.
2. Track more than HW in your school planner.
Keeping a calendar helps you plan ahead—but you’ve got more going on than just homework assignments! Make sure you’re marking your extracurricular, work, and social commitments, too. (Tests, band practice, away games, SAT dates, half-days and holidays are just a few examples of reminders for your planner.)
3. Start small.
If you’ve got a big assignment looming, like a research paper, stay motivated by completing a piece of the project every few days. Write one paragraph each night. Or, do 5 algebra problems from your problem set at a time, and then take a break.
4. School supplies (alone) don’t make you organized.
Come up with a system and keep to it. Do you keep one big binder for all your classes with color-coded tabs? Or do you prefer to keep separate notebooks and a folder for handouts? Keep the system simple—if it’s too fancy or complicated, you are less likely to keep it up everyday.
5. Get into a routine.
When will you make the time to do your homework every day? Find the time of day that works best for you (this can change day-to-day, depending on your schedule!), and make a plan to hit the books.
6. Learn how to create a distraction-free zone.
A study on workplace distractions found that it takes workers an average of 25 minutes to return to what they were working on pre-interruption. Try turning off your phone notifications or blocking Twitter (temporarily) on your computer so you can concentrate on the homework tasks at hand.
7. Get real.
When you’re looking at the homework you have to get done tonight, be realistic about how long things actually take. Gauging that reading a history chapter will take an hour and writing a response will take another 30 minutes will help you plan how you spend your time.
8. Use class time wisely.
Is your teacher finished lecturing, but you still have 10 minutes of class left? Get a jump on your chemistry homework while it’s still fresh in your mind. Or use the time to ask your teacher about concepts that were fuzzy the first time.
9. Look over your notes each night to make sure you've got it.
Fill in details, edit the parts that don’t make sense, and star or highlight the bits of information that you know are most important. Interacting with your notes will help you remember them. You can also use Homework Help to get your questions answered 24/7.
10. Study a little every day.
Cramming Spanish vocabulary for a quiz might work in the short-term, but when comes time to study for midterms, you’ll be back at square 1. You might remember the vocab list long enough to ace the quiz, but reviewing the terms later will help you store them for the long haul.
11. Don’t let a bad grade keep you down.
A rough start to the semester doesn’t have to sink your GPA. Take proactive steps by checking your grades regularly online and getting a tutor if you need one.
12. Make a friend in every class.
Find a few people you can contact from each of your classes if you have a homework question or had to miss class (and do the same for them!).  Then when it comes time to study for exams, you'll already have a study group.
The article will be below:
I hope this helps. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

okay, so i maxed out Arlecchino and tested her vs Hu Tao just for funsies, this is her build
Tumblr media
and this is Hu Tao's build
Tumblr media
I'd say they are close enough builds to be fair, and arle's artifacts are actually kinda better asdfghjk. i didn't use homa on her bc all guides say jade spear is better
so, the main differences between them is that Arlecchino has massive spike of damage at the beggining of rotation, when her bond of life is maxed and bennet's buff is up, but with time her damage falls off as you consume the bond of life and benny's buff goes out. hu tao's damage is consistent throught the rotation.
to the actual numbers, test is against overworld saimon, here's arle vv vape (arle-kazuha-yelan-bennet), biggest hit:
Tumblr media
keep in mind, arle's attacks have different multipliers, and this is the 6th one, the last in the attack chain, the first 5 attacks ranged from like 40 to 50 to 60k
hu tao vv vape, hu tao-kazuha-yelan-benny:
Tumblr media
so yeah, hu tao's damage per hit is just strictly better. arle can do more hits bc she's just doing normals and hu tao is doing charge attacks, but bc all hu tao's damage is consistently high, it averages out in her favor
i'm not a sweaty gamer tho, so i don't play vv vape in the abyss, so lets look at their most comfy teams with zongli
arle-zhongli-yelan-benny, highest hit:
Tumblr media
average is kinda 20-30-60k
Tumblr media
hu tao - zhongli - yelan - XQ:
Tumblr media
oh yeah, hu tao does 2 instances of dmg per charge attack, small one and then the large, in vv vape small one just got lost in all the clutter, so actually vv vape does ~200k per attack, and double hydro ~110k
bc arle's numbers vary so much, i think its not fair to just compare single hits, so i tried them in the abyss second side with comfy teams and the same abyss buff of 80 EM
arle's team killed dendro chicken in 42 seconds, from 09:06 to 08:24
hu tao's team killed it in 39 seconds, from 09:07 to 08:28
basically 2 rotations for both
next, arle killed PMA in 1 min 15 sec, from 09:03 to 07:48
hu tao killed PMA in 1 min 4 sec, from 09:11 to 08:07
actually 3 rotations for arle and 2 for hu tao. caveat is that i restarted this chamber for arle 4 times, bc i just couldn't bring PMA down in 1 rotation, but it didn't work anyway. for hu tao, i played one time and it was a mess honestly, i was finishing it on physical asdfghjk
also, i did not animation cancel for hu tao AT ALL, so if you do, her ceiling for damage goes way up. but i've seen ppl say hu tao is only great if you do the cancels and like. no. shes great even if you don't
anyway, conclusion: in vape arle is as good as badly played hu tao. i do not have cop girl, but i have high hopes that i can play overload with arle once i do. for vape i kinda prefer hu tao, bc she's not tied to a benny circle and i actually usually don't play her with shield, but in like hu tao-kazuha-yelan-XQ or mono pyro or hu tao-xq-yelan-xiangling, bc hu tao is very tanky and can heal. but i wanted to have like the fairest possible comparison, so i tested with shields, bc arle without shield feels horrible tbh

This is such a dumbass question to ask but what sort of stuff do you learn as a lawyer? And what type of shit do you have to study for a bar exam? Just read a few stories on it and sounds like fucking HELL — if this the sorta question you don't wanna answer, thats totally chill with me, I just like knowing what sorta coursework certai. Qualifications make you go through.
Ahhh okay, so explanation of the American legal education incoming.
So first thing — you have to have a four year bachelor’s degree in almost every state to even apply for law school. So four years of university are required before you can apply. Law school itself is 3 years, so in total, you’re in school for seven years.
Your first year you have absolutely no control over your schedule — every first year at every law school takes the same courses. You have no say over what time your classes are either — my first year, I was in class from 9-4:30 every day, with roughly an additional 6 hours or reading an assignments to do after. You quite literally cannot work during your first year of law school. These are all the courses you take during your first year:
Civil procedure (I and II)
Contracts
Constitutional law ( I and II)
Legal research and writing (I and II)
Property
Criminal law
Torts
All of these courses are tested on the bar exam that you have to take once you’ve graduated in order to be a lawyer. It’s not enough to graduate from law school — surprise!! You get to pay $5k-ish to re learn everything you’ve spent three years learning for a two day examination that literally determines your livelihood lmao. It’s very stressful — a lot of law firms make their job offers contingent upon passing the Bar, so it’s an incredibly high stress time and you get a grand total of six weeks to study.
Your second and third year are a bit more flexible. However, there are 17 Bar-tested subjects. 11 of them are absolutely tested (the first year subjects + evidence and criminal procedure I and II), but the other six are a toss up. You have no idea what’s going to be tested until exam day. So you can take classes your second and third year that are “Bar classes” but it’s not recommended you do so because you’ll hate yourself. The Bar subjects are the hardest and most dense courses.
My second and third year allowed me to explore my interests more — so intellectual property was a big one. I was also on law review and had two very big and very time consuming fellowships (I was one of 2 students in my entire state to get one fellowship that I had to go through the ringer to get lmao). Your second and third years are more about setting yourself up for a job after law school and it’s SO competitive. Like cut throat, even among friends. I hated that aspect of it lmao.
And then like I said — despite taking an entire semester’s worth of these classes and passing the exams (which average 3-5 hours for each exam but I had exams as long as 10 hours STRAIGHT), you get to do it all over again for an exam that’s only offered twice a year and literally determines whether you can be a lawyer!! The Bar exam was the worst experience. I was isolated for an entire summer, studying 10-16 hours a day and utterly cut off from loved ones. It’s a dark time lmao but I’m so glad I found solace here, with you all. Truly this blog kept me sane.
The exam itself is two days, and each day is a full eight hours. It’s designed to be a mindfuck and it’s designed for people to fail. It’s terrible!

Canucks: Quinn Hughes looking, talking, playing like true captain material
'For me, there are the assists, but he’s a terrific leader. He has been one of our best when it comes to being vocal. I haven’t really seen a bad game out of him. He’s very consistent.' — Rick Tocchet on Quinn Hughes.
Don’t let that boyish look fool you.
Aside from the obvious with multi-talented defenceman Quinn Hughes — sublime edge work to spin away from frustrated forecheckers, laser-like passes to trigger the transition and orchestrating the power play like a conductor — there’s also a growing and noticeable maturity.
It speaks of captain material.
Hughes is the product of a rich family sporting lineage and his respect, dedication and professionalism are building blocks in what is already a remarkable record-setting career with the Vancouver Canucks.
When Hughes, 23, and Elias Pettersson, 24, were promoted to the leadership group following the All-Star Game and donned an ‘A’ as alternate captains, along with J.T. Miller, 30, it was a sign of changing times.
Captain Bo Horvat had been traded and the consensus was to allow Hughes and Pettersson to methodically grow into their new roles and see who might eventually blossom to wear the ‘C’ next season.
That process has been sped up.
Hughes was always an engaging interview with frankness and vast knowledge of the game. It was more evident when he became an alternate and taking his energy and enthusiasm to another level hasn’t gone unnoticed — especially by the coach.
“For me, there are the assists and what he has been doing, but he’s a terrific leader,” Rick Tocchet said following a two-helper effort by Hughes on Sunday that elevated the blueliner to the 60-assist level for the second-consecutive season.
“I’ve been here seven weeks and he has been one of our best when it comes to being vocal. I haven’t really seen a bad game out of him. He’s very consistent. Obviously, the assists are great and his breakouts are incredible.
“That’s why (Paul) Coffey, (Scott) Niedermayer and (Ray) Bourque are great breakout guys and he (Hughes) is climbing that ladder.”
Bourque had a remarkable run between 1986-87 and 1993-94 where he put up 65, 73, 60, 63 and 71 assists. Coffey went even higher into the assist stratosphere between 1981-82 and 1985-86 with 60, 67, 86, 84 and 90 helpers.
Bourque served as captain of the Boston Bruins for 15 seasons and it’s not unusual to see a defender get that honour. This season, Jared Spurgeon, 33, serves in that capacity with the Minnesota Wild, while Roman Josi, 32, is captain of the Nashville Predators and Jacob Trouba, 29, wears the ‘C’ for the New York Rangers.
It’s customary to award your best player the captaincy, but it’s not always the best fit.
arkus Naslund was a reluctant captain because he preferred to let his game do the talking as an elite left winger. He would address the media — and often on a daily basis — but there was never a complete comfort factor because you have to be wired a certain way to answer repetitive and taxing queries.
The same could apply for Pettersson.
His play speaks volumes and the glare of the media spotlight isn’t the favourite part of his profession. It’s not a knock. Like many, he’s more comfortable in a one-on-one interview or small scrum.
So, what does this all mean?
Your captain has to be prolific because walking the walk is always going to beat talking the talk. He has to excel on the ice, play hurt, support the bench and be a voice of reason in the room.
Hughes logs a ridiculous amount of ice time with an average of 25:23 minutes that ranks sixth among all defencemen — and he has surpassed the 30-minute mark on four occasions, logging more than 28 minutes in 11 games.
“I want to play as much as I can,” he stressed. “I feel really good. Of course, some minutes are too much, but if I’m playing well — not lazy defensively and pushing offensively — I know I can play them.”
That’s leadership.
If that isn’t enough, there was one brief but testy shoving match between Hughes and Dakota Joshua that ended a long and draining practice last month on a fitting note.
Hughes got his back up during a two-versus-two scrimmage with the nets in close proximity at the defensive zone. It ramped up the testosterone and Conor Garland stepped in as referee. All in all, it served a purpose.
“For me, I’m trying to be a leader now and I want everyone to get better,” reasoned Hughes. “I need him to be the best he can be. And I need to continue to push myself to get better and push other guys.
“Petey and Millsy need to do that because, right now, we’re not getting enough from everyone and that’s why we’re not in the playoff spot. Everyone is a little edgier now with the way the season has gone.”
Joshua applauded the Hughes moxie because the fight in the mighty mite forced the big winger to ramp up his game in the mini scrimmage.
“That’s what it’s going to take to make this team better,” said Joshua. “Make sure everybody is pulling on the rope and I loved that and seeing him (Hughes) get fired up like that. We could use more of that every day around here.“
Hughes also got a hockey degree in human behaviour by playing with and soaking up the Luke Schenn tutelage. He became and better person and player from that union.
Captain material.

South Korea will upgrade the long-range mission capabilities of the F-15K fighter
The project, scheduled from 2024 to 2034, has a total budget of approximately US$ 2.89 billion.

The South Korean Air Force is launching the "F-15K performance improvement project" to improve radar systems and increase the long-range mission capabilities of its F-15K fighters.
The Defense Security Committee recently approved an acquisition plan to advance the project through foreign purchases, specifically the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said in a statement on Friday.
The updates are expected to allow the F-15K to identify and attack targets, ensuring stable operational conditions, crucial for extended missions.
Tumblr media
The project, scheduled from 2024 to 2034, has a total budget of approximately US$ 2.89 billion.
Boeing unveiled plans in December 2023 to comprehensively upgrade South Korea's F-15K fleet. The improvement initiative targets three main areas: the installation of the advanced AN/APG-82 radar, reinforcing the cabin display capabilities and integrating the electronic warfare suite 'Eagle Passive/Active Warning and Survivability System' (EPAWS).
The decision to invest heavily in the F-15 fleet is aligned with the strategic objectives of South Korea, especially given the relatively young age of the jets, with an average of just over 14 years. Originally acquired under the FX program in the mid-1990s, the first batch of 61 F-15K entered service at the end of 2005 and continues to play a crucial role in the combat capabilities of the Republic of Korea Air Force RoKAF).
Tumblr media
The F-15K variant is suitable for long-range attack missions, including against reinforced North Korean targets.

Mind Flayer, Ulitharid
Tumblr media
Image by Jim Nelson, © Wizards of the Coast
[The ulitharid was one of the first monsters written by James Jacobs to get published; it first appeared in Dungeon Magazine when he was a teenager. That original 2e ulitharid has a particularly nasty trick that has been abandoned by later versions--victims of its mind blast are also feebleminded. That's a little too mean for me, but I did take inspiration from it for a lesser version. I'm planning on giving full on feeblemind to the elder brain, though.
The idea of an ulitharid as an immature female mind flayer is, as far as I know, unique to me. I was inspired by the Volo's Guide to Monsters 5e take that makes ulitharids the psychic hubs of a full-on hivemind, and when they die, they become "seeder brains" for a composite elder brain. I'm not making the elder brain a full composite monster, but I liked linking the ulitharid more closely to the elder brain.
Again, see my article about mind flayers in general for information about the subtype and some of their unique abilities]
Mind Flayer, Ulitharid CR 11 LE Aberration This purple-skinned humanoid is tall and lean, concealing much of its form with robes and cloaks. It has six tentacles growing from its face, two of which are especially long and flexible.
Ulitharids are sometimes called “illithid nobles” by outsiders. They are ennobled not by rank, but by birth; each ulitharid is a juvenile elder brain, and will metamorphose into a new elder brain if they survive long enough. Ulitharid births are rare—only one in every twenty-five mind flayer tadpoles are ulitharids. Few ulitharids live alone; they are found almost always in mind flayer colonies. There, they lead the activities of circles, commune with the elder brain, and direct scouting expeditions to find new victims and resources. Most ulitharids will participate in the activities of multiple creeds, the better to have a broad perspective of philosophy and tools for acquiring power. When they near the end of their two hundred and fifty year lifespans, they leave the colony and travel to a safe location with a handful of illithids. Once in their new homes, they metamorphose into an elder brain and found a new colony.
An ulitharid acts much like an illithid in combat, but is more dangerous and capable in melee. Their longest tentacles can stretch to great lengths, pulling victims close enough to grab and tear away at their brains. The mind blast of an ulitharid has lingering consequences, leaving their enemies in a fugue state long enough to prevent them from fighting back effectively. Perhaps their most dangerous spell-like ability is their ability to project themselves and their allies into the Astral Plane. A fight with an ulitharid, unless it is within the colony to which it belongs, is usually with an astral form, giving the ulitharid the ability to test out tactics without danger of permanent harm, and leaving them free to plot revenge if defeated.
Ulitharids are larger than illithids, standing an average of 7 feet tall and being more muscular.

Mind flayers are immune to the effects of a mind blast. An ulitharid can use a mind blast at will, but must wait 1d4 rounds between uses. This is a mind-influencing effect, and the save DC is Charisma based. Tentacles (Ex) An ulitharid’s long tentacles are treated as slam attacks, and its four smaller tentacles attack as a single secondary natural weapon.

Thoughts on Eddie Bloomberg, Teen Titans 2003, and trust in the hero world.
From issue 30 to 74 of the Teen Titans 2003 run, which happen to be the issues Eddie appears in, and therefore the issues I've read, the arcs and conflicts emerging with the team all hinge on trust. Whether that be a question of who betrayed the team or not feeling like the team trusts them, the run does a good job at highlighting the difference of definition different characters have when it comes to what trust even means on a fundamental level. To me, the character through which we get to see that is Eddie.
First, a bit of background as to who Eddie is, as he's not the most well known DC character out there. Introduced in issue 1 of Blue Devil 1984, Eddie  is a gopher in Hollywood, working with his aunt Marla, who directs a movie in which Dan Cassidy is a stunt double. When Dan becomes Blue Devil through a magical incident, Eddie eventually decides to make himself a super suit that allows him to become Blue Devil's sidekick and partner Kid Devil. They go on light hearted 80s adventures, and after the end of the run on issue 24, he disappears from comics for a while, until his reintroduction to modern comics in Young Justice a few years later. He gains powers along the line, and joins the Teen Titans, becoming a fixed member of the team on issue 34.
What his presence allows  is for a direct contrast between these superhero teens, ans the average 17 year old. For all that Eddie has been a skdekick since he was 11 or 12, unlike the rest of the team, he has not been a strong part of the hero community through that time, and has not had to face stakes quite as high as  the others. He is, under most aspects, a regular teenager with an extracuricular.
Issue 42, during which him and Zatara go to hell, shows the rift that there is between a teen vigilante and a regular teen in what is to me a striking way.
Eddie: I only trust two people, I half trust a third. Zatara: Dude.
Eddie: Sorry.
In the comics, it's almost treated as if Eddie has trust issues from that single bit of dialogue, which struck me as strange the second time I read through Eddie's appearances, because him and Zatara are not close. They do not know each other well. Eddie not trusting Zatara would have been expected in most situations, but here it's treated as odd. Growing up, he was mostly isolated from his peers, so that would make the other two people he trusts his aunt Marla who raised him, and his mentor Blue Devil. In the context of real life, that would be considered normal, but here it's markedly different from other caracters' point of view.
The Teen Titans, have, for the most part, been putting their lives on the line for others pretty consistently for at least a couple of years, and the ones who haven't, Rose and Amy namely, have been raised to give their absolute loyalty, whether that'd be to their father, or the army. In both cases, it's expected for these characters to trust allies and teammates with their lives, at least on the field, because that's inherent to them being able to do their jobs. It's a genre expectation that teammates trust each other within the first few issues, to be able to move the plot along. A recent example of that can be found in issue 2 of the current Birds of Prey run, where Harley equates being part of the team to Dinah trusting her wholegeartedly; you can also see it put to the test in Batman Incorporated.
On a meta level, absolute trust between teammates is necessary, but in world, it does say something about hero culture, and Eddie having been raised out od said culture, does an amazing job at showing it.

And Now, An Interlude
I did coast through Blizzard Island pretty quick, but my next week or so is kind of insane. I'm out of state from 11/6-11/9 and I'm honestly not sure I can get the arc posted before then :(
But for every cloud, there's a silver lining. I definitely have time to share the nonsense I got into while I was stitching together the Sky Peak post. I really wanted to keep playing the game but without advancing the plot and getting ahead of the blog, so... I improvised.
Tumblr media
This picture is basically the theme of the post so enjoy lol
(No, we did not recruit her unfortunately 😔)
First, I want to share some teammates I snagged... and some I lost.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS GOD TIER STARAPTOR. Literally the GOAT. I was so, so upset when our client Pidgeotto later got destroyed by a Monster House. I suppose I could have gone through with the defeat, but the risk of losing more than a few exclusive items just wasn't worth it.
But we did get to keep someone I'm pretty sure is Young Guildmaster Wigglytuff:
Tumblr media
And HE COULD LEARN ROAR OF TIME. SO I SAID "SURE WHY NOT" AND GAVE HIM THE TM.
It's not a practical set of moves by any means (confusion from Petal Dance (which missed a whole ton anyway), 30% accuracy on Fissure, low PP and stall after using Roar of Time), but definitely fun to play with.
Tumblr media
Andrea also tried learning Vine Whip upon level up, but... It wasn't very strong, so I passed on it. Honestly, unless she gets something incredible, I'm thinking her current move set is final.
Tumblr media
...Yeah, I told you this was gonna be a common thread. Thankfully we dodged an encounter with the ancient god of the land because... *gestures to the stairs Being Right There*
After a few days of odd jobs, I realized I didn't want our duo getting too far along the experience curve. But how else could I satisfy my itch to keep playing this game? I could play as other Pokémon, sure, but most of them were far too weak for the average Bulletin Board request.
...And then I remembered: I hadn't tried a single dungeon from Poliwhirl's Dojo yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Okay yeah I took these photos after completing all of them but shhhh)
This was our menu of offerings (loaded with affluence and laughter, apparently). Some were conquered on the first try. Some required a little bit of elbow grease. And some... well, they certainly put my patience to the test. I remember Affluent Turn, Hilarious Court, Prosperous Outback, and Hilarious Abyss being particularly troublesome.
"Wait, but aren't the dojo mazes only five floors-" Correct! But these dungeons are randomized like any other, meaning they have three things the mazes typically don't: traps, monster houses, and a whole lot of sticky items.
Granted, this was the squad:
Tumblr media
But the traditional starters are well-boosted in the stats to begin with, so it wasn't too bad. And this is a randomizer, so...
Tumblr media
I'msorryCharmanderlearnedWHAT?!
(I now want to watch an anime episode where a tiny Igglybuff and Charmander wreck Dialga's sh*t with Roar of Time.)
After enough tries, we were able to nudge the three starters towards evolution. And hilariously, they all insisted on learning OHKO moves (and Dig for some reason):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
G-Grovyle, my beloved...
You Do Not See The Palkia, Grovyle Is Clearly Fighting Primal Dialga Here.
Yet the one thing that was consistent across these dungeons to the point of skepticism... was the sheer abundance of legendaries.
Tumblr media
Like I honestly think it would be easier for me to list the legendaries NOT included. That's how many there were. Take a gander at this list (bold indicates the Pokémon sighted):
Kanto: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew
Johto: Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi
Hoenn: Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys (multiple forms, all mirage)
Sinnoh: Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina (both forms), Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin (both forms)
Most of these were in the Final Maze, too. No wonder it was called this instead:
Tumblr media
In total, we only recruited two of these legends, which is pretty impressive when you remember you're forced into these places with an empty bag (so no items to help increase the recruitment rate). The first, as you can see above, was Uxie, one of the True Time Gear Guardians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not bad! Not bad at all.
And the second... the second is pretty special. I'm still giddy about it even all these days later:
Tumblr media
😍 YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT. I RECRUITED THE LADY HERSELF!
I SCREECHED when I saw her in the dungeon to begin with, so you can imagine the commotion I made when she wanted to join the team!! When you talked to her in a dungeon, she even said the phrases. You know, stuff like hating the decay brought about by the world of darkness, and there being no need to worry because she can't ever be caught, of course!
I suppose she's a little confused by her displacement in time and space, but you know what? This really makes it feel like her... so I wouldn't have it any other way <3
Tumblr media
She originally joined us at Level 38. I already knew, without a doubt, that she was gonna become a permanent fixture of the team. So I loaded her up with 3 Golden Seeds, every Gummi I had leftover from the mazes, and some Proteins.
Why Protein? Well, she originally knew... Tackle, Endeavor, Strength, and Meteor Mash lol. Her attack stat was also dreadfully low, so why not catch that up to the others when I happen to be swimming in Proteins?
I did also feed her some TMs to diversify the move set a little:
Tumblr media
This shot is actually outdated already: presently she knows Super Fang instead of Rock Climb and Hidden Power instead of Defend Order.
There is one slightly unfortunate caveat to my sheer excitement:
Tumblr media
Yeah... Normalize. So she can't benefit from the STAB on Giga Drain. But I suppose there are worse things.
Here's something I doubt many people have seen! You're technically not supposed to be able to speak with her in Rotom's Cafe, right? So of course I was dying to know what she said when you spoke to her there, and:
Tumblr media
Forgive the desaturation and such, as you can see by the reflection I snapped this one with my phone 💀
Interesting, no? Read that again: Magneton. If you recall, that Pokémon was her replacement in the story! Funny to see it show up here, in what I can only presume is the title of her idle pose. For reasons unknown to me, sometimes she said "standby 2" instead.
Anyway, she and the Gabite you saw earlier were our tried and true teammates during our many, many attempts to conquer Massive Tomb. To skirt around the excess EXP problem, I simply reset whenever things went awry.
The thing with Massive Tomb is... It has 48 floors, right? (Which I found odd, why not make it 50 at that point?) And you're not allowed any items upon entry. So either you miraculously find a string of Secret Bazaars to replenish your belly until you find an Apple of some kind (lol) or you starved to death by floor 11. Oh, and basically every other floor was a Monster House. So it really came down to sheer luck.
There was one attempt where I got as far as 43F. But my string of good fortune turned sour: back-to-back Monster Houses slowly picked off my teammates and made Andrea run out of PP for Blizzard. So when we ran into yet another Monster House (this time mandatory), all it took was one Triple Kick from Persian before it's all over. That loss felt particularly devastating.
The one attempt that finally succeeded was the one where we didn't run into a single MH until we were over 2/3s of the way through. Although the one that did finally show up nearly ended me.
Tumblr media
But finally... Finally!
Tumblr media
YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAW!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the one hand: Can you imagine if the aura you got at the beginning was Brown? I would be so mad if I had two of the same color lol. Though on the other hand, aura color doesn't really matter? It only shows up in the flavor text and item sprite - the latter of which you only see if the item gets knocked off of you.
But hey, I'll take it. I'm just glad I finally got through the darn place!
Oh geez, this "mini update" was very close to 30 images somehow 😬 But I hope you enjoyed seeing this not-insignificant, optional part of the main world!
Bonus:
Tumblr media
...Okay I guess I lied, we recruited three legends.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
I sketched these OC's back during the quarantine days, they were originally for a scrapped Hellsing fanfic draft. I decided to color, and flesh them out a bit more. They're the fraternal twins of Alucard & Integra, so essentially dhampirs, but I made them based off Gonzo's version cuz' there's a lot more in that world to work off of. Background info of the Hellsing Siblings down below. ↓
Asha Mary-Elizabeth Van Hellsing                                  Born 12:01AM, 12/31/1999
Chronological Age: 22 | Biological Age: 20
Height: 5′10 | Weight: 152lbs
Asha is one of the Captains of the Hellsing Special Paramilitary Forces. She's served under the Commander, Seras Victoria, for five years. As a Captain, Asha devises strategies for quick extermination & seeks potential escape routes for the injured. She is in charge of leading her squad through the ghoul infested areas of England during nightfall. Though she has never fought a true born vampire on her own, as Victoria or the servant is often sent to deal with that matter. Asha possesses a great deal of strength and agility, she consumes 1 pint of blood daily. But too much exposure to sunlight will cause her fatigue. Outside of Captain duty, Asha is quite shy and reclusive, she gets anxious in social settings unrelated to her job. She finds comfort in solitude, noisy music and exercise. Her soldiers respect her, but find her demeanor gloomy. She is often called the fun-sucker by her brother for how she refuses to engage in anything he deems ‘fun’. At times Asha gets uncharacteristic outbursts when angered, much like her mother, the cause of many arguments. As a teenager, Asha had wished to enlist into the British Armed Forces, as many of Hellsing's soldiers all had prior training there; though she was refused due to her nature, and her mother’s opposition. She often feels inadequate to her peers even as a Captain, and especially so as a halfling. Asha likes to fence in her down time, she is exceptional at it, only ever beaten by her mother. She believes she might’ve been knighted, had the Hellsing Organization not been abandoned by the Queen 22 years ago.
Abraham Michael Van Hellsing II                                      Born 11:50PM, 12/30/1999
Chronological Age: 22 | Biological Age: 22
Height: 6′2 | Weight: 170lbs
Abraham, the older brother of Asha by eleven minutes, works as an assistant Phlebotomist in the daytime, and Hellsings underground medic at night. He is currently studying for his PhD in Haematology at a local university in London, under strict surveillance. Abraham had trained under the former house physician, Dr Trevelyan. He took over as Hellsing's residential healthcare worker after Trevelyan resigned. Abraham does feed on blood, though he does not need to consume it daily; nor does sunlight seem to affect him much. While he is stronger than an average human, he is unfortunately unmatched by the vampiric strength of his sister. He accepts that he is the physically weaker twin, but he simply does not care enough for combat training or weapons, much to his mother’s dismay. His intelligence and desire to experiment with the biology of the supernatural mirrors his great grand father. Abraham is an eccentric lad, his humor is often mocking, especially to friends and family. Since his childhood he's been interested in the hypnotic nature of vampires, and has performed hypnotherapy tests on rodents and small animals to strengthen that ability, though his mother restricts him from using his power on humans. He believes he is capable of making miracles happen, such as curing vampirism without the need of scoping out the master vampire, or recreating the late Abraham Van Helsing's life-threatening blood transfusion performed on Lucy Westenra. Abraham finds the quirks of being a Phlebotomist useful for vampiric purposes as well.

Oct. 11 (UPI) -- High school students' ACT college admission scores continued to tumble in 2023, falling to their lowest point in more than 30 years and marking a lack of college preparedness, the nonprofit organization that administers the exam said Tuesday.
Average scores in every academic subject on the exam declined for six consecutive years, ACT CEO Janet Godwin said. Students are leaving high school without meeting college readiness benchmarks, but GPAs continue to rise and student say they feel prepared for college academic success.
Students in the class of 2023, called the "COVID cohort," were in their first year of high school when the pandemic reached the United States. The number of COVID cohort seniors not meeting any ACT college readiness benchmarks reached historic highs in 2023, the organization said.
"The hard truth is that we are not doing enough to ensure that graduates are truly ready for postsecondary success in college and career. These systemic problems require sustained action and support at the policy level," Godwin said. "This is not up to teachers and principals alone -- it is a shared national priority and imperative."
The average ACT composite test score fell to 19.5 out of 36 for the class of 2023, a decline from 19.8 points in 2022. A composite score is the average of the four test sections (math, science, reading and English). The average scores in math, reading and science were below the ACT college readiness benchmarks for those subjects.
College systems in some states, including California, have dropped standardized tests as part of the admissions process. The tests have long been criticized as discriminatory.

File: Attack the Block
SCP#: AFY
Code Name: Blue Tooth Hounds
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-AFY instances are contained at in an artificially created cave system that spans 150x150 meters wide at Site-AA. They are bred and trained in that area so that they can become proper hounds for Mobile Task Force Demeter-4 "Animal Control". No one besides Level 4 Clearance or a member of MTF Demeter-4 is allowed within the containment area of SCP-AFY. Any testing with SCP-AFY must be approved by a Level 4 Clearance Staff.
In the event of a containment breach a pheromone is to be released within the SCP-AFY containment area. This pheromone will make them docile and want to hide by any means available. Should they smell anyone with an unidentifiable smell enter the containment area they will hunt them down and kill them. A calming pheromone will be released after the containment breach has been cleared.
Description: SCP-AFY is a species of Quadrupedal aliens that came to earth via meteor. The males of the species all are large being able to stand 5 to 6 feet tall and weight on average 600 to 1200 pounds. They have no visible sensory organs, small but sharp claws, and for some reason glowing blue teeth. They also have fur so black that it absorbs all forms of light making them look like living and moving blobs of darkness.
Despite having no sensory organs SCP-AFY has a keen sense of smell especially for pheromones. As such the females of the species produce these pheromones regularly quite similar to how a queen ant of a colony sprays pheromones on the ants to follow her orders. Unlike the males the female is devoid of hair and has a body size of 3 -4 feet tall. They are also relatively weak without male guards, but they do have a defense mechanism of spraying hostile pheromones onto their attackers.
As a whole, the species is extremely fast and flexible able to run along any terrain with ease and at a speed of 30 to 50 MPH. They can climb across any surface, and break through glass, metal, and even concrete with ease. Their sense of hearing is incredible, and their bodies are durable enough to resist most melee and even basic firearm attacks. However heavy firearms, explosives, and energy-based attacks are quite effective against them. Furthermore, despite their great senses, they mostly focus on pheromone commands often ignoring prey when it hasn't been sprayed by hostile pheromones.
SCP-AFY was discovered in 2011 when an apartment building at [data expunged]. The Foundation was called to action when an agent living in the building as well as another agent passing by saw the SCP-AFY male instances roaming around the apartment building. The England Division of the Foundation deployed Mobile Task Force Artemis-6 "Wild Hunt" to capture all of the anomalous beasts. Though they captured a few the female was already killed, and the rest were killed by a boy who calls himself Moses and his friends. However, they were arrested by the police who believed they killed everyone who died by the SCP-AFY instances and caused the explosion in the name of arson.
Foundation agents disgusted as detectives offered the boys positions at the Foundation under Protocol "Sole Survivor". They accepted and are now under training to become MTF units within the Foundation. As for a majority of the survivors of the apartment they were given the proper amnestics and sent to new apartments with £5,000 each as compensation for their troubles as well as hush money. The cover story for the boys was that they really did attack the apartment and were given capital punishment as a result, fake bodies were created for the funerals. Surprisingly a lot of people showed up to said funeral not remembering much but believing Moses and his boys were heroes.
Update 2013 - Moses and his men have completed their training they are now the newest recruits of Mobile Task Force Epsilon-11 "Nine-Tailed Fox". Unlike normal MTF Epsilon-11 units they are quite talkative and have good charisma making them instant favorites among Foundation staff. a majority of Mobile Task Force Alpha-1 "Red Right Hand" do not like this, so they are often handled by MTF Alpha-1 unit "Monster Slayer".
