another rec center? from softerhaze? it's more likely than you think :) anyway! i wanted something smaller than the family center that i built for san sequoia and this is what i ended up with. bone apple teeth.

includes a child/toddler activity room, basketball court, gym, community garden, kitchen/party space, and playground

built for the 50x40 lot in newcrest's llama lagoon neighborhood and designed to match the exterior of @cowboycid's kitt community theater build which i've placed across the street in my main save

uses most if not all of the packs (sorry), with a small amount of cc included

When I saw this incredible rec center by softerhaze I immediately thought ‘gosh I wish I could have this in my game’, so I tried to kinda recreate it! It’s still a WIP. All the credit for the idea and the inspiration goes to softerhaze.

This could be a fun new spot for family get togethers this summer!

Meagan is a 17 year old girl who comes from a well-off family. She has always been a bright and determined young girl, excelling in school and dreaming of becoming a writer one day. She has a good head on her shoulders and is wise beyond her years, something she developed growing up in a house full of arguments and tension. Her life has mostly been shaped by events centered around her family, and Meagan's relationship with them is strained due to the constant fights. She often feels like an outsider in her own home and has learned to distance herself emotionally from her parents. This created a tense and uncomfortable home environment for her, leading her to seek a form of escape at her childhood best friend Charlie's house. The two of them grew closer and eventually started dating in middle school. Her saving grace through all of this has been her relationship with Charlie, who has been a constant source of love and support for her. They have been through thick and thin together and their bond has only grown stronger over the years. Meagan's relationship with Charlie has allowed her to open up emotionally and learn to trust others. She has also learned to stand up for herself and voice her opinions, which was something she struggled with in her family dynamic. In their senior year of high school, the couple is faced with an unexpected situation and are forced to make life-changing decisions.

Charlie is a 17 year old boy who has always been more introverted and shy, coming from a middle-class family. His parents worked hard to provide for him, but even with decent paying jobs, it was tough. Some months they struggled to make ends meet, other months there was plenty of spending money to go around. Charlie had always secretly harbored a love for sports, watching his favorite teams playing on TV often made the lonely days seem more bearable. He dreamed of one day becoming a professional athlete and making something out of himself. He was often bullied in school for being the skinny, awkward kid trying to join the sports teams. So, he buried his dreams deep inside and focused on his studies. As he grew older, Charlie's family became more distant. His father had to travel for work, chasing better job opportunities to provide for his family. His mother, on the other hand, would often pick up extra hours at her job, or take on odd jobs and hustle to bring in some extra income. They were never around much, leaving Charlie to fend for himself. Thankfully, Charlie always had his childhood best friend, Meagan. They met in kindergarten and were inseparable ever since. In middle school, their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship, and they became each other's rock. For Charlie, one of his main goals was to make Meagan happy and love her forever. They shared the same dreams of escaping their less-than-ideal circumstances and building a better life for themselves. However, during their senior year of high school, life decided to drop a bombshell on the couple leaving them to face the toughest decisions of their lives.

Pioneer Village Challenge

I love gameplay based challenges. This challenge is based on the apocalypse challenge and softerhaze’s Isle of the Midnight Sun challenge, but with more Cottage Living-ness.

The goal is to found and develop a pioneer-era town as you progress through 10 generations.

Note: I am currently play testing this challenge (see #pioneer village challenge). These rules will change as I’m testing and find elements that don’t work. I’ll post a finalized version when I’m done.

Gameplay Set Up:

You can play on any lifespan and age-up whenever you’d like.

Gens 2-9 can be completed in any order. You can select traits or randomly select. If randomly selecting, it might be useful to work on a restriction that corresponds with whatever traits you’ve rolled.

Use cc or don’t. And don’t worry about being historically accurate, just have fun!

World Set Up:

Delete all lots in a neighbourhood. Identify 1-3 commercial lots for the town center. You may need to use multiple neighborhoods if you plan on building many functional buildings such as libraries, restaurants, vet clinics, etc., as they will each need their own lot.

When developing the town, buildings can be small and purely aesthetic, so that you can fit multiple buildings on one lot. For instance, one lot can hold a small schoolhouse, town hall, sheriff’s office, grocery stand and park. They are purely aesthetic in that your sims won’t actually be going to school in that schoolhouse, we’re just imagining they are.

All residential lots must be off grid until gen 10. Imagine commercial lots are also off grid when building. Use whatever lights you’d like, but be mindful: don’t place computers, tvs and such.

You don’t need to live on the same lot for the entire game. Move and build more houses! Use siblings to populate and build up a bustling town!

For gens 1-9 you may not travel outside of the neighborhoods selected for the town.

Gen 1:

Begin with one YA sim of any gender with any traits.

Have them move to an off grid residential lot in your neighborhood. You can add simple living, wild foxes and whatever else.

Set household funds to §0. You can place a tent and campfire first, or build a small shack, it's up to you. But they should begin with basically nothing.

Gen 1 can’t lift any restrictions. The focus is simply to survive, build up a family, garden and home. You may decorate the town center as long as these decorations aren’t part of any restrictions. For instance, I used western style items to make it look like settlers had just arrived.

Gen 2-9 Goals:

Try to complete these before the current gen's child is YA, but also have fun, and don’t worry if you don’t quite finish them.

Lift a restriction (recommendation: build the associated building right when the gen starts so it’s as if the sim works there)

Reach the top of your career (in relax mode, the restriction is lifted as soon as the sim enters the career, so don’t worry if you don’t complete this)

Produce an heir by any means (have as many kids as you want, but one must be an heir)

Complete an aspiration

While spouses and family members cannot lift restrictions, they can have jobs and such. Spouses can bring up to §500 into the family when they join.

Town Restrictions:

To lift a restriction you must build a building and:

in relax mode: have a sim enter that career path (ex: Gen 2’s children can go to school right away because Gen 2 has started the teacher career)

in challenge mode: have a sim max that career path (ex: Gen 2’s children can’t go to school until Gen 2 is at max job level; you might not be able to send children to school until gen 3)

Some restrictions impact gameplay more than others and you may lift them in any order, but you may only lift one restriction per generation.

Some restrictions can be completed by unemployed sims, so if you have a large family or busy farm for one generation, that is an option. I tried to include lots of options for those who don’t own all the packs. Skip or modify as needed.

1. You may not take animals to the vet, have a baby at the hospital, take medicine, use herbal remedies or potions of any kind or take pregnancy tests.

Lifted by:

Building a clinic and entering doctor career

OR owning and running a 5-star vet clinic

OR building an apothecary and mastering alchemy or herbalism

2. You may not send children to school.

Lifted by:

Building a schoolhouse

Entering education career or babysitting

3. You may not buy any food and must acquire it yourself (through fishing, animals or gardening).

Lifted by:

Building a grocery stand/grocery store/restaurant or bakery

Entering the culinary career OR running a restaurant or bakery

4. You may not decorate with any paintings (other decorations such as plants, family photos, etc. are okay).

Lifted by:

Building a community park/sitting area or garden

Entering the painter career

OR having an unemployed sim maxing painting and earning money from selling paintings

5. You may not perform music (either for tips or just for people watching). You may only practice music alone.

Lifted by:

Placing a busking space / building a performance space

Entering the entertainer career

OR having an unemployed sim maxing an instrument or singing and earning money from tips and writing songs

6. You may not leave your home lot when it is dark out and must return to your lot before dark.

Lifted by:

Building a sheriff’s office / police station

Entering the military, athletic or police career

7. You may not celebrate any holidays outside the home lot or with anyone outside of those living on the lot, nor hold any events (such as goaled birthdays or weddings).

Lifted by:

Building a town hall

Entering the political career

OR having an unemployed sim create and manage a club

8. You may not sell any items crafted through woodworking, knitting, needlepoint, candle making or fizzing. You can only gift these items or have them for personal use.

Lifted by:

Placing an item stall or flea market table / building a shop

Entering the business career or retail

Gen 10:

Your residential lots may now be on the grid!

This is the last generation and the story will end once Gen 10's heir is a YA.

Now that you can use a computer, enter the writing career OR have an unemployed sim max the writing skill, and write books or articles about the lovely town you’ve built.

Feel free to finally travel outside of the town!

Challenge Mode: Your residential lots may not be on the grid until you’ve completed the writing career. Place one computer in the town center.
