I've only read the first volume of Dungeon Meshi but I'm convinced Laios and Marcille are both autistic but two EXTREMELY different flavors of autism, so much so it enables autistic PVP (one sided, Laios is unaware, possibly due to the autism)

thinking about ashley’s insight on why fearne was so desperate to save imogen, that she couldn’t bear telling laudna they’d lost her, that she didn’t want to lose imogen’s use to the team against dangers, and while i find the way fearne has this tendency to bypass visceral emotions in favor of something’s functionality, (which is like god. of course that’s how fearne makes sense of emotions. though her parents loved* her so, they still used her entire existence transactionally for a favor, and while nana morri loved* her so, kept her as a part of her collection for her ruidusborn fey status; that’s what love is, right? fearne steals as morri steals but always with the intent of functionality; fearne trying to steal a coin or a pendant of a god, to use that power for later, and that’s the formula of love* that fearne understands while never having to be vulnerable to love), and i just really do wonder just how much of that compulsion for “functionality = importance = love” nurture really resonates with the nature of fearne.

fearne’s nurture dictating how she processes emotions is just so fascinating and yet heartbreaking because it’s like, yes she desperately wants to serve a function for the people she loves, she needs to be of value, otherwise she’ll deserve it when they leave her behind. but it’s just something to me that when her best friend asks something of her, lays a task at her feet, she doesn’t immediately take it, she grows quiet and promptly smooths that worry away so she doesn’t have to admit that this opportunity to be of use, this favor being asked of her, fearne can’t even hypothetically accept it… but how is that possible when that’s who* fearne* is*?

fearne never knowing deep, difficult emotions until she met the crown keepers and bells hells makes it easy to point at moments of great emotion for fearne (laudna’s death, imogen’s dream) and see the way she processes them right then right there than when she recontextualizes later against how emotionally vulnerable she was when it was happening. that ashley’s insight for fearne’s desperation to wake imogen was said to just be about wanting to preserve the precious relationship of other people and then potentially utilizing functionality of a team member’s power for later. that was the only driving force fearne was really valuing when she cried out for imogen to wake up.

yes, fearne sees imogen’s power and equates that to usefulness and that’s the sole motivation in keeping her safe. for them. that’s all. but then it’s the trembling way fearne speaks out that they shouldn’t let imogen go. because imogen… serves a function. they could use her one day. that’s what love is, right? that’s the only reason fearne can be so protective of her. an impulsive fey just cares about practicality. and if imogen needs someone to comfort her until fearne can get her back to laudna then of course that’s all it is. she just wants to see them. happy. that’s what she’s there for.

waow... hi b'rshtie... so many fun little things for kharae today...

-10: Are they proficient in playing any instruments? -A: Nope! Kharae would probably set a lute on fire if she played it. Not to say she hasn't tried, she's definitely attempted a couple times, but she's much more proficient in singing than she is playing any instrument. She tries. She fails.

-14: What hobbies does your Tav have? -A: Ohh... Fantastic question... Honestly, I don't think she has many, as when with Sornolu she didn't get many opportunities, and after escaping, she was almost immediately tadpoled. However, I think during downtime, she'd pick up scrimshaw! There's no shortage of bones, and she has nothing but spare time during camp, so she'd just start teaching herself! Does it look good? No! But she enjoys it! It helps soothe her, and I think that helps in turn with calming down any magic that's going strange :]

-16: Do they have a favorite creature in the Faerûn? -A: Flumphs. Seeing as she spent, uh, many-a-years in the underdark, Kharae never really got to learn much about what creatures are above ground, save for the rare occasion Sornolu had something outright imported and showed to Kharae. As a result, she got real well acquainted with Minotaurs and other, similarly unfriendly wildlife. However? Flumphs were always nice! And they didn't try to kill her!

I know he loves the blonde but I can't believe how little art I've seen of Teru with outrageously neon hair colors. Like, come on. He's a dramatic gay 14-year-old with no adult supervision. We've all seen how he dresses. He already bleaches it. You cannot convince me that he hasn't made at least a few questionable late-night decisions with a bottle of drugstore dye.

The fact that we have not had a single fic where Shelby goes into an unexpected heat on the island and ends up getting bred by Toni is a travesty and I lay the blame squarely on the shoulders of the puriteens who scared the smut writers away in the early days of the fandom.

The way a shoni abo fic would be so fucking good, especially when you factor in their enemies-to-lovers arc like omfg just think about it for a sec 😩😩😩 The way they wouldn't get along at first but would still feel this inexplicable draw to one another. They would be going through it. The existential crisis would be real™️.

In the beginning, Shelby couldn't stand Toni's hot-headedness and arrogance. Nor was she a big fan of how Toni was so dismissive of her. Leave it to an alpha to still exude that sort of annoying behavior when stranded on an island in a life-or-death situation. Yet, despite the gruff exterior and perpetual sour mood, Shelby found herself wanting to be close to Toni, wanting to comfort and care for Toni, wanting nothing more than for the alpha's full attention to be on her at all times. There were nights she could hardly sleep because the pain of not being right next to Toni, not being able to touch Toni the way she craved, was too much. It's all quite embarrassing, this inner turmoil of hers. The rational part of her that knows nothing could ever happen between the two of them versus the more primal side of herself that begs to be bent over and bred every time she catches a whiff of Toni's intoxicating scent. Two sides of herself battling it out for dominance. All this struggling and warring going on inside of her, and the girl who makes her feel this way, who makes her heart flutter and core ache, can't even stand to be around her.

But that's not entirely true, now is it? Because while Toni had been putting on this annoyed front, secretly, she'd found herself consumed with thoughts of the omega. Those first few days after they'd crash-landed, she had admittedly been relatively short with the other girl. She couldn't stand the sight of her perfect ponytail or that gold cross resting heavily on her chest. Her ever-present optimism and flare for the dramatics also drove Toni up the wall. But god, her scent was intoxicating, all-consuming, and mouth-watering. Toni tried to distance herself from the omega, but it never worked. The more she pushed Shelby away, the stronger her desire to protect and provide for her grew. This innate, animalistic drive really pissed Toni off. It was pitiful; the way she could feel her chest subconsciously puff when all the girls were hanging out, and Shelby decided to sit next to her. It was just awful how she would be overcome with a great sense of accomplishment anytime she managed to make Shelby smile. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't resist the urge to serve the omega, to be her alpha...and maybe...maybe Toni was okay with that.
