3 & 7!
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
peps!! i don't know what it is about peps in particular but it was the first like fic that i was proud of that i've finished. it was so fun to write, so exciting, and it just felt really good to get out. here's a shameless link drop to peps it's also really wild to think that it took me a month to write it. i was obsessed with it. i would write at work, the moment i get home from work. i put die for you by the weeknd on repeat and went to town. my start date was august 21st and i finished september 22nd. 60k words. it was the longest fic i've written (at that point) and the first one i finished. i hold peps very close to me even though it is edancy and people have been mean about it in the past. oh well. i can only say that the brain worms won?
7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now?
oh god they're honestly never ending. i currently have 5 wips going at once. which is mostly just to finish out all the prompts i got from my 420 follower event (from like.. november. i'm so sorry i didn't think i'd take this long). and then i have a ronance oneshot from my band au i should write, there's something with the song lucky by britney spears for chrissy but i'm not sure where i wanna go with it. i have this rainbow in the dark kas!eddie vibe that i've wanted to write since last year. and then there's the buffy the vampire slayer au that is all i can think of while watching btvs. last night i watched s7e20 touched and i was having feelings. so yeah i'm always filled with fic ideas. since i don't roleplay anymore whenever i watch or read something i think about it in terms of fics instead of rp plots 😔
ask me some questions!!

Choices
Pairing: Faith x reader
Request: i am so beyond thrilled requests are open again! when you have the time can you please do a faith x reader oneshot where the reader is a scooby and usually pretty ethical and trustworthy but they secretly date faith after she goes evil, preferably including angst with the other scoobys when they find out❤
Requested by: Anon
Tumblr media
You liked to stick by the rules. You walked in the light. You weren’t a complete saint, of course. But you did pride yourself on being trustworthy. Your friends, the Scoobies, always came to you for advice.
You and Faith, in theory, appeared to be opposites. She was always so much more outgoing and cooler than most in the room. You were a lot more bookish and stereotypically ‘good’ than her. But you did compliment each other. You were both very caring people. You shared values and your humour complimented each other’s.
You found yourselves becoming closer and closer. Until the day she admitted she liked you. Kissed you. Ever since, you had lifted her up. Supported her when she thought you may turn from her.
You had both fallen so deeply. She had never felt this way before. It was everything. She couldn’t dare think about losing you. Much less because of her own actions. She would hate herself for it.
Faith had never had a relationship so good. You liked to communicate your feelings and always encouraged her to do the same. She had never been able to trust anyone in the way that she trusted you.
However, then you found out. About how she had hurt that man. About her working with the Mayor. When you found out what had happened with Faith, it hit you in the gut. Worried you.
Not for the reasons most may expect though. You worried for her safety. For what she was getting involved in. You wanted to wrap your arms around her, try to ground her the way she had for you so many times.
You saw her again but she hid behind that mask she usually used with the others. You hadn’t missed the way she hid those emotions. Your horror at what had happened had read to her as disgust. As if you no longer wanted to be with her. As if you hated her where there had only been love there before.
She was walking away from you, storming to her new apartment courtesy of the Mayor. Her eyes watering. Her heart in pieces. The only person she had ever trusted with her heart and now she had to face being alone again.
“Faith!” You shouted, rushing up behind her before she disappeared. She turned instantly, she always would for you.
“You’re here to end it, huh?” She said, looking at the floor, “Evil doesn’t really match the goody-schtick you have going on, right?”
“I can’t lose you Faith…” You admitted, your eyes welling with tears.
“Yeah, well, everyone leaves. Turns away. Gotta get used to it sometime right?”
“No! Please, don’t do this! I-I don’t want it to be like this…”
“Well, there’s no way you’re gonna turn from any of them – they were always your friends not mine”
“I won’t be able to stop being their friends, but I wanna be with you still… maybe we could… still?” “Uh, but… in secret?” You offered, cringing slightly. Hoping she wouldn’t laugh in your face. But she clung to it, near desperately. Her eyes brightened. Face appeared brightened by this hope.
She never thought you would say that. She adored you but she knew you well. Had expected you to be unable to see that things were grey not just black and white. Because of the way you always tried to be so good. Make the correct choices.
“You really mean it?”
You nodded vigorously to further your point. Eyes streaming with tears at even the idea of losing her. You wiped your eyes on your sleeve, facing her again.
“I can’t stand being without you”
“Even though I’m working with the Mayor, you can live with that, huh?”
You wrapped her in your arms, looking into her eyes the way you always did. Your love hadn’t changed. You had meant it when you said you would never leave her side. That nothing she could ever do would cease your love.
She wasn’t used to love in such an unconditional way. For someone to risk everything to be with her. Your friends, your morals, all of that was on the line. But you loved her. You needed her. Of course you would choose her. To stand by her.
You cupped her cheeks. Palms stroking either side of her face. You leaned in, pressing your lips to hers. It was slow and so gentle. Caressing her with such meaning. Full of your unending love. Your lips moved against hers in such doting display of affection. This kiss told her you would never leave. Never turn from her just because of her mistakes. Choices.
She wasn’t used to such tenderness. She was so overcome with emotion. You meant everything to her.
You would still help your friends and act as you always did. You wouldn’t help the Mayor although you had met him several times now. Under Faith’s protection. You would just be by her side. You loved her, how could you not?
You sat in the library, mostly silent now. You were still your usual friendly self but it you were just a lot quieter. They had been discussing Faith. Again. And you hadn’t really been listening until Buffy’s voice could be heard louder than the rest.
“Yeah, well, now she’s gone total psycho-gal there’s nothing we can do” Buffy said and the force of her words made you wince. You had audibly gasped without realising and everyone looked at you awkwardly. Realising what they had said. How fresh this must be for you.
“I’m sorry, Y/n, we’re here if you need to talk” They mistook your discomfort for heartbreak. And you let them. Just nodding in reply.
Truth was, you were counting down the minutes. Until you saw her again. You couldn’t help it. No matter how your choices now conflicted, she meant everything to you.
You had been daydreaming again. Of the way she enjoyed to slide a hand around your shoulder so that she could lean in closer and press a kiss to the side of your face. How she could whisper things in your ear. Sometimes teasing and too dirty to ever repeat, sometimes unbelievably soft things that could make you blush just as big.
Finally, it was the best part of the day. The bell went and you rushed out of the exit as soon as you could. Straight to her. You heart would beat faster the closer you got to her.
You smiled at her, entering her new place. It was plush and although you knew how she got it, you couldn’t help but enjoy it with her.
She kissed you on the lips, that smirk on her face that she did with the side of her mouth when she had you alone. She was exited to see you, had been alone most of the day. She lead you to her bed, pressing a few kisses to your mouth between the run-down of her day.
You lay in bed together as she showed you the large plasma tv that hung on the wall opposite. You loved it when she was excited this way. You didn’t get to see it often. Her showing you the items she had never owned before. You loved how fun she could be. You settled against her. Just cuddling and sharing your thoughts on the day until you decided to turn to watch the tv.
Your hand rubbing slowly against her upper arm. She enjoyed the sensation. Enjoyed the way nothing had changed for you. You really did still love her. You scooped her into your arms, holding her into you further.
You only wanted to spend time with her. Wanted to make her feel so very loved. She felt herself physically relax. Her jaw loosening, shoulders relaxed.
She grinned at the way you cuddled up to her. She began pressing slow kisses against your neck. Your hand slid to weave between her hair. The way you always did when she got this way. She really loved you. Wanted to show you at any opportunity.
Her body heat and yours, skin against skin. It was pure bliss when it was just the two of you. There was no good or evil. No right or wrong. Just this deep, all-encompassing connection.
She used to use people for sex and then move on so quickly. Before she had found happiness. Before she had found you.
Having you didn’t change her choices or that she had changed sides. But it did change how she felt about herself. She still had your love, your affection. You couldn’t leave her side despite the fact she knew you didn’t agree with her choices.
She moved, your embrace loosening as she pressed herself into you further, one hand now guiding your jaw to face her properly. So that she could kiss your lips fully. You grasped at the strands of hair weaved between your fingers, pulling her closer still.
It was bliss.
That was, until an uninvited visitor arrived. Buffy had kicked the door in as Faith had rolled over so that she was above you in bed.
You both looked over to the door, eyes widened. You had been caught out. Nobody had known about your continued relationship, you had kept it well hidden.
Both of your eyes widened from your compromising position. There was no way you could just explain this away.
“Oh my God, what is happening?!”
“Yeah, guys, could the Hellmouth finally be giving us opposite day?”
“Well, that would make me the good Slayer and you the-”
“You’re not bad” You hissed in her ear as she slid from the position she had been in to sit on the edge of her bed. Staring at the intruders. She felt so vulnerable. So scared they were going to take you from her.
“No way! No way would they give you the time of day now that you’re bad-”
“Please, don’t wig, we’re just… I couldn’t just leave her! She’s not a bad person!”
“Oh, right, she convince you of that between the soulless gropy-ness?”
“Didn’t realise there was a big book of big, bad deception now that we don’t know about. She lend you a copy?” Buffy said, her tone harder than she had ever directed at you before.
“It does kinda seem like she’s clouded your brain with… smooches” Willow added, looking at the floor. She didn’t like confrontation.
“She’s been there for me when nobody else-”
“We’re your friends! All she’s ever done is wrecked your life!”
“Yeah, Y/n, didn’t know you could even consider moving over to the dark side” Xander said, trying to aim for light hearted but it quickly rounded into sounding accusatory. As if they were all so disappointed in you.
That it had been expected of Faith, that she was a ticking time-bomb. But they drew the line at you being ‘dragged down’ to her level.
“Hey, it didn’t mean anything, okay? I just, it was just to end it. Get it outta our system, y’know? Right, y/n/n?” Faith offered. The group still didn’t like this and would likely not let you off for a month, but it meant you would at least get them back as friends eventually.
She didn’t ever want to be the reason you lost your friends. Not over her, she didn’t feel like she was worth it at all. You gave her a look and she nodded once, showing that it was okay. That she understood.
Her eyes were glassy and you had never seen her cry before. She was always so strong. Never wanted you to see her emotional, to admit it. But you could tell that over this – over you, her eyes were welling up.
“No” You said suddenly. Everyone’s faces a picture of shock. They couldn’t believe that you, of all people could be so firm about this despite everything you knew about Faith and what she had done.
You moved to stand by her side, your hand slid into hers. You squeezed slightly, showing her you meant this. That you would always be here, no matter what. That you loved her because of who she was no matter what choices she had made.
“I love Faith. I don’t care anymore, I choose her. I’ll always choose her.” You insisted, “A-and if this isn’t the ‘right’ choice then… then I don’t want to be good anymore”
There was a stony silence where you felt the tension rising uncomfortably. The room that had been glowing with love was now heating with anger. Disapproval. Near-hatred for your words.
They were angry with you. Their faces at different levels of seething. You, doing this, was a worse betrayal to them than to Faith switching sides. You suddenly felt unsafe with them where you never had before with your friends. You stepped back, unconsciously. Trying to shield yourself from them with Faith.
How could friends of yours change their mind of you so easily?
“Then you choose to be beaten. I can’t promise I won’t fight you if it means doing what’s right - and I mean properly right” Buffy warned. But for today, with this devastating blow – of losing you as a friend in their eyes. They just left.
Left you with Faith, which would never be a penance to you. You adored her. She instantly moved to your side, she had left a little space in case your proximity would have created a worse argument.
She never wanted you hurt. She comforted you, enveloping you in her arms. Walking you back to the bed. Your safety. Just you and her. The idea of losing your friends had devastated you. You felt pushed out, hated. You couldn’t help how deeply you felt for Faith. You knew you would do the exact same thing over again.
You had meant it. You had made your choice. You chose Faith. Always.

Snowball Fights - A Tyrus Oneshot
Cyrus loves winter and TJ Kippen.
———
———
Beams of sunlight poured through Cyrus’ blinds, causing his room to be lined with streaks of orange light. His eyes fluttered open slowly as the rays of light were lined up directly to where his eyes were. He softly grunted to himself and tossed himself onto his other side, facing away from the light. He grabbed his phone that was sitting on his bedside table with a charger hanging out of it and looked at the time.
8:53
Without a thought he put his phone back down and curled back up into his sheets. His comfort didn’t last very long though as he suddenly bolted straight up, wide awake.
8:53??
He had overslept. He was supposed to have been at school half an hour ago, why hadn’t his alarm gone off? Why didn’t his mom wake him up? The panic was starting to settle in as he scrolled though his notifications hurriedly. Just as he was about to abandon his phone and throw on the closest combination of clothes most readily available to him, he saw a text from his mom.
Mom: Snow Day!!! No school, I’ll be in my office if you need me! <3
He let out a breath of relief and continued to look at his notifications in a much calmer manor. He had texts from every one of his friends rejoicing about their day off. Cyrus jumped out of bed and ran over to his window like a little kid, pulling down on his blinds so only his eyes were peaking through. Sure enough, the ground had been coated with a thick layer of snow.
It was honestly kind of magical. The untouched snow glistening in the light of the rising sun, snowflakes falling delicately from the sky, tree branches covered in snow hanging above the roads, mimicking a tunnel of sorts. Cyrus loved it.
Frankly, Cyrus loved pretty much everything about winter. Well, he wasn’t too fond of the below freezing temperatures or midterms but other than those things, he loved winter. He loved the seasonal drinks, the holiday season, winter break, snow days. The overall energy surrounding winter never failed to put Cyrus in a good mood.
A smile crept onto his face as he let out a small yelp of glee and pounced back onto his bed, phone in hand, messages already pulled up.
GHC + JB
Cyrus: be at the park at noon if you enjoy snow filled activities
The Buff ™: Slightly ominous, but I’m there!
Andi oop: count me in
JB: sounds fun :)
Cyrus smiled at his phone and bounced on his bed joyfully. He felt like a little kid again, it was a nice refresher from all the stress that had been swarming his brain as midterms approached.
His phone buzzed again.
Andi oop: is it ok if i invite amber?
The Buff ™: and Marty?
Cyrus: as long as they love snow filled activities
That reminded him, he closed the group chat and clicked on TJ’s contact.
Cyrus: happy snow day!! everyone is going to the park later for Snow Filled Activities™, you should come :)
Cyrus set down his phone and went to get ready for the day. He went downstairs and looked in one of the closets to make sure he still had all of his snow gear. He did, although he wasn’t totally sure how well it would fit considering he had grown since he last wore it, so he decided he’d be sure to wear extra layers. When he got back to his phone, he saw a message waiting for him.
Teej: sounds good underdog :)
Today was going to be a good day.
***
The cold air bit Cyrus’s cheeks as he slid down the hill again with Buffy and Marty following close behind. He had gotten a head start, kind of. Cyrus was just sledding down the hill on his own terms, his friends however appeared to be starting up yet another competition. Cyrus heard Buffy and Marty count to three in unison before they sped down the hill. He walked over to the swing set and laughed to himself as Marty accused Buffy of cheating. He took a seat on a snow covered swing and looked out at the park.
It really had snowed a lot that night, there was plenty to do. While Marty and Buffy continued to race each other down the hill, Andi, Amber, and Jonah were attempting to build a snowman. Well, Jonah was attempting to build a snowman, Andi and Amber were just wondering aimlessly around the park, occasionally picking up random items that could be used to decorate said snowman. Cyrus smiled sweetly at the sight of all of his friends enjoying themselves.
“Whatchya smilin’ bout there?”
Cyrus’s train of thought was interrupted as he swiveled his head to see TJ walking up to him, hands behind his back and an innocent smile on his face. Almost too innocent…
“Just enjoying the show,” Cyrus answered suspiciously, a giggle slipping through his words. “What about you?”
“Oh, no reason.” TJ answered, his innocent smile turning into one of mischief.
“Something tells me that’s not true.” Cyrus teased as he slowly rose from his swing.
TJ replied with a mere shrug and lowered his eyes to the ground, his grin still plastered on his face. Suddenly he looked up again. “Hey what’s that?” he pointed up past Cyrus’ head. The brown haired boy turned to where he was pointing, regretting it a moment later when he felt a thud against his arm.
He turned back towards TJ who was now sporting a large toothy grin, his gloved hands in front of him, dusting off snow.
“TJ Kippen, did you just throw a snowball at me?” Cyrus laughed.
“Maybe…” He shrugged, eyes pointed to the sky and a cheeky smile on his lips.
Cyrus felt a sudden warmth in his cheeks, despite the icy breeze, as he bent down and grabbed a fist full of snow, wearing a smirk of his own. He quickly hurled the snowball at TJ and by some miracle, landed him right in the chest.
The blondes face turned to one of playful shock whilst Cyrus plastered on his own innocent facade.
“Oh it’s on, Goodman.” TJ laughed as he bent down to grab another handful of snow, sending Cyrus running.
They chased each other around the park for a few minutes before finding their way to a clearing with no one around and nothing but a few trees and large rocks. Cyrus ducked behind an oddly large boulder and slapped his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing.
“Come out, come out, wherever you are!” TJ sang as he crept through the field, snowball in hand.
Cyrus let out an involuntary squeak to which he cursed himself and prayed that TJ hadn’t heard him. When he thought the coast was clear, he sneaked a peak from behind the rock, but TJ was no where to be found. Cyrus stood up straight and looked around in confusion for a moment. His confusion turned quickly into fear as he felt a pair of arms being wrapped around him. The suddenness caused the both of them to loose their balance, a small yelp emitting from Cyrus as they fell to the ground. Before he could process what had just happened, TJ was laying on top of him.
They looked at each other for a moment before bursting out into hysterical laughter, tears forming in the corners of their eyes. Their amusement dyed down and they looked at each other again, smiles turning soft.
“Looks like I found you.” TJ hummed.
“Looks like it.”
And then Cyrus noticed how close they were. They were like, really close. Their noses were only a few inches away from touching. The smiles melted off of their faces, scanning every detail about each other.
TJ’s eyes look really pretty in this light. Cyrus observed. His eyes usually looked pretty, but the way the sun hit them today made them look glossy and gentle. Faint freckles popped up along the bridge of TJ’s nose and his cheeks were blotchy and red from being out in the cold.
TJ looks really pretty.
He broke eye contact with Cyrus, his eyes flickering down to the brunettes lips for not even a second. Cyrus didn’t even realize he did the exact same thing.
“I really want to kiss you right now.” TJ mumbled.
Cyrus couldn’t help the sheepish grin forming on his face. Feeling uncharacteristically bold, he whispered. “So kiss me.”
And he did. As if that day could not have gotten more magical, here he was, in the middle of the park, kissing TJ Kippen. Cliché as it sounds, Cyrus swore he saw fireworks. The kiss lasted for only a few seconds before they pulled away from each other and broke out into the dorkiest grins imaginable.
Just then, the cogs in Cyrus’ brain began to turn and an idea popped into his head.
“Wait, what’s that?” He said, looking past TJ’s head.
The other boys face contorted slightly with confusion as he turned to face where Cyrus was looking, finding himself regretting that decision as he felt cold, damp snow pressed into his ear.
He turned back to Cyrus, who was biting back a prideful smile at his prank. A look of mock betrayal took over TJ’s face.
“I thought we were having a moment!” He pouted, only half serious.
“Oh, we were,” Cyrus deadpanned, “but before that we were in the middle of a war.” he smiled.
TJ smiled back despite himself. “Fine. You win.”
“Wow, I didn’t think you would give in so easily.”
“Well, if I’m chasing you around with snowballs I can’t do this,” He leaned down and once again connected their lips. Cyrus giggled when the pulled apart for the second time.
“Who would have guessed that TJ Kippen is such a sap.”
“What can I say, I enjoy a good rom com.” TJ shrugged, provoking a smile from each of the boys.
TJ clamored off of Cyrus and extended a hand to help him up, to which he gladly accepted. Once they were both upright, Cyrus kept his hand attached to TJ’s and they began to walk back towards their friends.
Today was a good day.

Jealous
Hello here’s a lil oneshot based on this post:
Tumblr media
~
It was late evening and the sun was setting in Shadyside, casting a warm glow onto Cyrus’ bedsheets as he sat opposite his boyfriend.
His boyfriend. His actual boyfriend. He wasn’t sure if he’d ever be used to calling TJ that, and every time he remembered he could a jittery feeling filled his stomach.
“TJ, you do realise it’s just us here, right?”
The boy laughed slightly at that, shifting his position to sit cross-legged. “Yeah, but you only really need two people for truth or dare, right?”
Cyrus looked at him in confusion for a moment, trying hard to figure what his intentions were, before resigning with a small shrug. “I guess that’s true. Let me just open a window first, it’s getting warm in here.”
He stood up from his bed and padded over to the window, fumbling with the lock for a moment before managing to push it open. Cool evening air immediately began to flood the room, accompanied by the soft sounds of breeze gushing by.
Cyrus turned back to TJ, who had a mischievous smile on his lips now.
“What?” he asked, smiling as approached the boy and sat back down.
“Nothing,” TJ assured him, although the glint in his eye seemed to suggest otherwise, “you can go first.”
Cyrus hummed. “Okay then. Truth or dare?”
“Truth,” he replied after a moment’s hesitation.
Cyrus looked around the room for a moment as he tried to think up a question he could ask.  The sliding door to his wardrobe was opened slightly, and through it, he could see the shirt he’d worn to Buffy’s first try-outs for the girl basketball team.
A random idea entered his head, and he was blurting out the question before he’d even thought it through.
“Do you actually like blueberry macadamia muffins?”
TJ’s eyes widened momentarily. He looked back at Cyrus for a moment, blushing as though he’d been caught red-handed.
“Um...why did I suggest this game again?”
“I knew it!” Cyrus cheered through giggles, giving the boy a playful shove, “you don’t even like them that much! I thought Buffy was just trying to get my hopes when she said you wanted me to bake them instead of buying them.”
“I thought it’d be cute!” TJ argued, but he was smiling now too, “and I mean, hey. We ended up having fun, didn’t we?”
“Yeah,” Cyrus agreed, face softening, “we did.”
There was a pause, then the mischievous expression from earlier was returning to TJ’s face. “Okay. My go now.”
“Should I be scared?” Cyrus asked him, only half-serious.
The boy just shrugged. “We’ll see. Truth or dare?”
“Truth,” he said, almost instantly. He really wasn’t in the mood to do anything that may require him to stand up from the bed again.
TJ smirked. Suddenly he regretted his decision.
 “Who was your first crush?”
Okay, yeah. Maybe getting up from his bed wouldn’t have been so bad after all.
Cyrus looked back at TJ for a moment, before burying his face in his hands with a groan.
He lifted his head after a moment or two, before lowering it again. “It was Jonah,” he mumbled, but the words were so muffled he thought that TJ might not have been able to hear them.
“Jonah? Wow. I mean, that kind of makes sense I guess.”
Cyrus looked up again, face tinged red now. “I haven’t for a while, though. I think my crush on him disappeared right around...” he paused for a moment, eyes wide with realisation, “...right around the time we first started hanging out.”
TJ bit his lip at that, smiling fondly as he took the boy’s hands in his. “Well. That’s encouraging.”
He interlaced their fingers, and Cyrus suddenly felt like his face was on fire. He really wasn’t sure if he’d ever be used to affection from TJ.
“Okay, I’m choosing truth for you!” he announced, “who was your first crush?”
TJ averted his gaze at that, seeming bashful all of a sudden. “I think that...my first real crush was probably you. When we first started hanging out. I just kind of liked you right away.”
Cyrus tipped his head to the side, expression soft now. He’d expected some material to tease TJ with, but the truth was way too cute for any of that.
“Aww,” he cooed, leaning in to wrap the boy up in a hug.
TJ purposely dropped back down onto the bed, pulling a surprised laugh from Cyrus as they tumbled down.
He smiled down at the boy, eyes sparkling, before dropping a kiss onto his cheek and rolling over to settle down beside him.
“Was that game of truth or dare just a tactic to find out who my past crush is?” he mumbled.
TJ hesitated for a moment, before smiling and pulling him in. “Maybe.”
 ~
It was two days later that Cyrus was bounding up to TJ before class, a smiling Jonah in tow. It was morning now, and an icy breeze gusted over them as they made their way up the basketball court. TJ seemed to be dribbling the ball from one end to the other, alternating between hands as he did so.
“Teej!” he called out, which had the boy stopping immediately and turning around with a smile.
He tucked the basketball beneath his arm as he walked over, wrapping his free arm around Cyrus’ shoulders.
 “Hey,” he greeted, “what’s up?”
“We just got out of Jonah’s early morning ultimate practice,” he said, directing a smile over at him.
Jonah nodded. “I didn’t realise you were here, man! You should’ve come watch us play.”
If Cyrus wasn’t so sensitive to TJ’s demeanour shifts, he definitely wouldn’t have been able to notice the subtle frown that briefly flickered over the boy’s face. He dropped his hand from Cyrus’ shoulders a few seconds later, only confirming the sudden shift.
“Sorry, that would’ve been cool. Next time, maybe?”
Jonah gave him a smile and an enthusiastic nod. “Totally!”
Cyrus looked between the pair for a moment, feeling somewhat awkward.
“Um,” he managed, wracking his brain for something to say, “Jonah did really well! There was one intercept he made where I swear he jumped up higher than anyone I’ve seen. And he was across the court in like a second.”
Jonah just brushed him off though, smiling vaguely. “You always have to jump pretty high in ultimate.”
“How high?” TJ asked suddenly, and a glance over confirmed that he had an eyebrow raised now.
Jonah looked at him blankly for a moment, before shrugging. “Um...a few feet, I guess? I don’t know, it varies.”
TJ nodded slowly, as though considering the information carefully. Cyrus gave him an uncertain smile.
Jonah and Cyrus ended up chatting more, hovering by the sidelines, while TJ continued with his practice. Cyrus glanced over at him occasionally, and whenever he did TJ seemed to make an effort to jump up high to shoot a hoop.
Even Jonah seemed to pick up on it eventually because his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Was he doing that when we first arrived?”
Cyrus just shrugged, a slight smile on his lips as he watched on. “He’s probably switching things up.”
Things only started to get weirder when, during lunch break, TJ volunteered to play ultimate with Jonah. Cyrus came along of course, along with Buffy, and the pair sat on a nearby bench as they watched them play.
Sunlight was filtering in through the clouds now as midday approached, but there were still cool gusts of wind that had Cyrus tugging on the beanie he’d brought in his bag.
“Since when has TJ been interested in ultimate?” Buffy whispered, “and why does he have that look on his face? He knows it’s just practise, right?”
Cyrus just shrugged, watching as his boyfriend jumped up into the air with a dramatic twirl, catching the frisbee with ease before landing down on the grass again. Jonah looked on for a moment in confusion, before shrugging and smiling.
“That was extra,” Buffy said with a snort, “I’ve never seen Jonah do that during practice.”
 “Me neither,” Cyrus agreed.
They watched as TJ continued to pull manoeuvres like that one, beginning backwards and spinning around to catch the frisbee, running forward and practically diving to catch it.
Cyrus’ eyebrows raised slightly. “I mean...it’s impressive.
“And unnecessary,” Buffy added with a laugh, “who is he even trying to impress?”
Cyrus bit his lip at that, turning to the girl with a pained expression on his face. “Me, I think.”
“Why?” she asked incredulously, “aren’t you two literally dating?”
“Yeah, but...” he paused for a moment, letting out a sigh, “I told him about my crush on Jonah.”
Shock flickered over Buffy’s face. “Well, that explains a lot.”
Cyrus looked over at the field, where the two were beginning to stretch now that the end of the period was nearing, before turning desperately back to the girl.
“He seemed fine with it when I first told him!”
“Yeah, but then he saw Jonah ‘I’m effortlessly perfect’ Beck and obviously must’ve gotten jealous.”
“Jealous? I mean, I wouldn’t go that far,” he scoffed.
The pair returned their gaze to the field, where TJ was currently doing a handstand while Jonah was simply stretching out his arms, looking over at the boy in bewilderment.
“I would,” Buffy said, dropping him a wink before getting up from her seat.
“Hey Kippen, bet I could hold a handstand for longer than you!”
“You’re on, Driscoll!” he responded instantly, earning him a fond eye-roll from Cyrus.
Jonah came over to sit down beside him after a few minutes, and they watched in amusement as TJ and Buffy struggled to hold their positions.
“TJ did really well out there,” he told Cyrus, smiling slightly, “maybe he should consider playing ultimate.”
Cyrus hesitated for a moment, before nodding and returning the smile. “Yeah, maybe.”
 ~
“I’m telling you, there’s no other reason TJ could’ve called this ‘emergency basketball practise’ apart from that he wanted to show off after this morning’s ultimate game,” Buffy insisted, as the trio made their way through the hall.
Andi laughed slightly. “I’m just surprised Jonah agreed to come along.”
“They are kinda friends now,” Cyrus piped up.
The sunshine from earlier had only lasted an hour or so before being stifled by even more grey clouds, filling the sky and casting gloomy light through the windows they passed.
Buffy had her basketball gear on, to fill in for a player that couldn’t make it, while Cyrus and Andi had their phones ready to watch from the sidelines and occasionally cheer everyone on.
They pushed through the double doors, which closed with a slight bang behind them as they made their way over to the courts. TJ, who had been stretching, immediately perked up and made his way over.
“Underdog!” he smiled, pulling the boy in for a quick hug.
Cyrus couldn’t help but return the smile, and the hug lingered for a long moments before they pulled away again.
“Ready for practice?” he asked him, giving Buffy a playful elbow when she smirked.
“Yeah! We’ll probably start the game in a few minutes.”
Buffy joined him on the courts, while Cyrus and Andi headed over the stands. Jonah jogged in a minute or two later, settling down beside the pair with a bright smile.
 “Hey! Did I miss much?”
Cyrus shook his head. “You didn’t miss anything, they’re just stretching.”
The distinct sounds of sneaker soles squeaking against the hardwood floor filled the hall once the game had commenced. It all seemed to go smoothly at first, with TJ scoring as he normally did, and Buffy owning the court as she always did.
Cyrus cheered them both on for a while, before getting distracted by his phone.
He felt Andi nudging his side after a minute or two, and he looked over curiously. “What is it?”
She nodded her head towards the game, and it took Cyrus about 30 seconds to realise that TJ had officially picked up gear, moving quicker across the court, taking riskier shots, intercepting whenever he could. Buffy looked vaguely impressed, but mostly amused, as she played along.
He watched on as TJ ran up to the 3-point line with seeming ease and went for a shot, jumping up into the air. It landed almost perfectly in the hoop, and Jonah looked over at Cyrus with a somewhat bewildered smile.
 “He’s trying really hard today.”
Cyrus smiled slightly and shook his head. “Yeah. He is.”
Andi looked between TJ, who had taken another shot backwards, before turning back to Cyrus with a wince. “Maybe you should talk to him?”
Cyrus looked conflicted for a moment, but he eventually resigned with a sigh. “You’re probably right.”
The girl gave him a comforting pat on the shoulder, taking a few moments to catch Buffy’s eye and signal for a time out. Cyrus rushed down the stands, which he mentally decided to count as his exercise for that day, before jogging up to his boyfriend.
TJ’s face was reddened slightly now, and he separated himself from his team with a confused smile.
“This time-out’s gonna be a bit longer than usual folks,” announced Cyrus as he approached the boy and took his hand, “I’ll try to make it quick though.”
“Where are we going?” TJ asked breathlessly, and Cyrus flashed him a smile.
 “You’ll see.”
The room was just as Cyrus had remembered it, albeit darker considering the clouds outside. He pushed through the door, which creaked slightly on its hinges, before tugging the boy inside.
“Aw,” TJ smiled, green eyes scanning the space for a moment.
The same blue vending machines were still pushed up against the wall, except now they appeared to be closer to the corner. Posters of various colours filled the wall, and there were several dark blue chairs surrounding a round, sleek-looking table.
Cyrus was the first to sit down this time, turning the chair around to mimic their conversation from all those months ago. A smile appeared on TJ’s lips as he looked around for a moment longer, before pulling out a chair and sitting across from him.
“So what’s up?” he asked him, leaning forward on his elbows.
Cyrus hesitated for a moment, letting out a sigh as he diverted his eyes to the table.
“TJ...you know I like you, right?”
The boy gave a small, uncertain nod in response.
“And...you know I like you more than anyone else, right?”
TJ’s face, which was already tinged red from running around, seemed to turn a deep shade of crimson at that. He looked down at the table, tracing a few crumbs that had been carelessly left behind with his index finger.
“I’m not jealous I swear,” he insisted.
Cyrus gave him a kind smile. “I never mentioned anything about jealousy.”
The boy seemed stuck for a moment after that, opening his mouth to speak before closing it again. Eventually, his shoulders slumped slightly with defeat.
“I’m sorry. I know I’ve probably been acting weird today. I’m really not jealous...or maybe I am a little bit...I don’t know. I know it’s dumb and I know you like me but I just thought...he’s always been so...then I’m so-“
“Hey,” Cyrus interrupted gently, reaching out to place a hand on top of his, “you don’t have to try to get me to like you because I already do, and I have for months now. Even with Jonah right there. I like him as a friend obviously, but he’s not you. He never will be.”
TJ’s expression relaxed slightly at that. He turned his hands up to hold Cyrus’, a soft smile gracing his lips.
“And for the record,” he added softly, “you’re great at sport already. You don’t have to try beat anyone to impress me, because I’m impressed by you every day.”
TJ paused for a moment, smiling bashfully. “...Did you like my twirl and catch during lunch break, either way?”
Cyrus giggled slightly. “Yeah, that was pretty cool.”
The boy got up from his chair then, holding out his arms. Cyrus got up too and happily walked into them, burying his face in the crook of TJ’s neck.
“Thanks,” he heard TJ murmur, “I’m sorry.”
Cyrus tipped his head up, resting his chin on the boy’s chest as they swayed slightly.
“It’s okay. Brains can be mean sometimes, according to my step-dad.”
TJ gave him a fond smile at that. He opened his mouth to respond, but was cut off by a muffled shout from outside.
“Have you guys finished arguing or making out or whatever you’re doing in there?! It’s been like ten minutes, bro!”
Cyrus looked shocked at that, while TJ just rolled his eyes, clearly used to his teammates by now.
“Shut up Harry, we’ll be out in a sec!”
They looked at one another for a moment, before reluctantly separating.
“We should probably head out,” said Cyrus.
TJ smiled and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. “Yeah. Probably.”

vulnerable in oh so many ways

Would you believe me now
If I told you I got caught up in a wave?
Almost gave it away
“You haven’t talked to him yet?” Buffy asked in surprise. She sat next to Andi in their usual spot in The Spoon, with Cyrus sulking in his seat across from them.
“No, there’s nothing to talk to him about. He ditched me for some rude girl, plain and simple. Nothing I can do about it,” Cyrus replied, throwing an uneaten baby tater back in the basket.
Andi responded, “Why are you so worked up about this, though? I mean, when the whole gun thing happened, we had to pry you away from him.”
“That wasn’t his fault. I should’ve figured this would happen, I’m always the second choice,” Cyrus mumbled.
“Hey.” Buffy leaned forward and took his hands in hers, much like when he’d came out to her. “You are never just the second choice, okay? You’re just as important as anyone else. And if TJ chose someone like her over someone as amazing as you, then he never deserved to be friends with you in the first place.”
Cyrus gave her a small smile. “Thanks. And I know, it just hurts, you know? Like, he still chose her over me.”
Buffy and Andi exchanged a look, leaving Cyrus to question, “What?”
“That’s the thing, Cy. It’s weird that he just bailed on you,” Andi replied.
Buffy added, “Yeah, he usually follows you around like a puppy. It just doesn’t make sense.”
“I know. That’s why it hurts so much,” Cyrus murmured, leaning back in the booth.
Buffy squinted then, recognizing the face he was making. The last time he looked like that was when they’d watched Jonah and Andi kiss. “Cy?”
He looked up. “Hm?”
“You know you can tell us anything, right?”
Cyrus sighed. “I know.”
Buffy asked slowly, “Do you? Want to tell us anything?”
Cyrus just shook his head, knowing exactly what she was implying.
“Yeah, not gonna lie, I’m lost,” Andi interrupted.
Buffy put her hand on her shoulder. “It’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
Would you hear me out
If I told you I was terrified for days?
Thought I was gonna break
“Kippen!”
TJ looked up from his phone to see none other than Buffy Driscoll running up to him.
Buffy almost stopped in her tracks upon seeing how, well, horrible TJ looked. His face was paler than usual, he’d acquired massive eye bags, and his hair was messy, lacking its usual overpowering gel. “Whoa. Um, okay, what the hell happened?”
“None of your business,” TJ mumbled.
Buffy crossed her arms and sat down next to him. “When my best friend is that upset, it automatically becomes my business. Why did you bail on Cyrus?”
TJ sighed, leaning back in the bench he currently occupied. “It’s really complicated.”
Buffy took the seat next to him. “I’ve got time.”
Oh, I couldn't stop it
Tried to slow it all down
Crying in the bathroom
Had to figure it out
“So you’d rather to a costume with Cyrus than with me? Have fun with that.”
Those words echoed in TJ’s brain since they were first spoken. He thought he had it all covered, that he was being subtle enough that no one would pick up enough but still touchy enough where he could still express how he was feeling. Apparently not. TJ hadn’t even thought about people thinking it was a bad thing, only hiding it because he has a crush on his straight best friend, that’s embarrassing. Was it a bad thing? Would other people think it was a bad thing? Guess so, considering Kira does, or at least implied that she does. What if she told other people about it? What if everyone thought it was wrong? What if—
And suddenly TJ broke down on the tiles of his bathroom floor in the middle of the night.
He had no other choice, did he? He had to do the costume with Kira, or else he’d be outcasted even more than he used to be.
Classic TJ.
With everyone around me saying
"You must be so happy now"
Cyrus watched as yet another person went up to congratulate TJ and Kira, sighing into his math homework.
Kira had recently announced over Instagram that the two had started dating.
Buffy was gone from school that day, so it was Andi’s job to do some damage control, meaning constant hugs and reassurance that TJ is and always was a dick.
“Stop watching them, Cy, it’s only going to make you feel worse,” Andi said softly.
Cyrus replied shortly, “He stopped trying to text me.”
Jonah, who sat next to Andi, asked, “Well, isn’t that a good thing then? If he was being such a bad friend to you, shouldn’t you be happy he’s out of your life now?”
I should be, Cyrus thought, but I’m not. “I guess. Something about this just feels so weird.”
Andi grabbed his hand to console him. “That’s totally fair, considering you li—“
“No, I didn’t,” Cyrus interrupted.
“Sure.”
Oh, if you keep reaching out
Then I'll keep coming back
And if you're gone for good
Then I'm okay with that
If you leave the light on
Then I'll leave the light on
It had been three and a half weeks since TJ had last tried to reach out to Cyrus.
Both boys had just assumed that the other hated them and just never spoke to them again after that crushing realization. And to be fair, that realization is completely plausible since neither side knew the whole story.
But Buffy did.
Despite wanting to spill it all at first, she kept her mouth shut in the beginning as she didn’t want to out either of the two boys. But the further they drifted apart, the closer she came to the conclusion that she had to get involved. She wouldn’t say anything about their sexualities, obviously, but she knew that they had a bond stronger than whatever Kira was attempting to ruin.
So she got involved.
Cyrus was not expecting a call from Buffy at 11pm, however they’d had late night conversations before, why would this one be any different than their ramblings about various movies or songs or things that happened during the day?
Buffy’s voice came through the phone strong and clear, “You need to talk to him.”
“What? No, there is no way I’m ever talking to him again,” Cyrus scoffed.
“Yeah, but I did. Knowing what happened and watching you drift apart because of it is literally killing me. You need to talk to him, Cy,” Buffy responded.
Cyrus was silent for a moment, the only tell that was still on the call was his heavy breathing into the phone. Finally, he replied quietly, almost a whisper, “You talked to him?”
“I had to, seeing you upset like that.”
Cyrus’ reply was almost pained, “What did he even say? What could’ve possibly happened?”
Buffy sighed. “That’s not for me to tell.”
The two kids both fell quiet for a moment. Cyrus pinched the bridge of his nose and interrupted the silence with, “I think I’ve just given up on this, I don’t even care what happened. I should, I know, and somewhere in my brain I probably do, but right now, I don’t know... I just feel empty about this whole situation.”
“That’s fine, Cy, it’s completely valid for you to be feeling like that. Just, don’t give up on him yet. You guys are too good of a pair to be ruined by some she-devil,” Buffy said.
“Thanks. We’ll see, I guess. I gotta go, bye,” Cyrus replied.
“Bye,” Buffy answered back, ending the call.
Cyrus set his phone down next to him on his bed and sighed, leaning his head back against the wall. He didn’t have the energy to get up at turn off his lamp in the opposite corner of his room, only enough energy to think about the one boy who had constantly been on his mind since that one fateful Friday.
He looked out his window and spotted TJ’s house several streets away. He remembered when they would call each other and stand at the window, looking over to one another, pretending to give the eye contact they’d give in a normal face to face conversation. That was gone now, though, all he had was the light in TJ’s own room to look at.
He didn’t know that TJ was looking over at his house doing the same.
And I am finding out
There's just no other way
That I'm still dancing at the end of the day
Seeing Metcalf kiss his husband on the cheek in the middle of the hallway was the last thing anyone expected to see during school.
Naturally, word spread fast to those who weren’t around to see it, including TJ.
“Did you hear what Metcalf did today? It was so gross,” Kira said, taking a seat next to him at the lunch table. She didn’t notice when he scooted away from her the smallest distance.
“What?” TJ replied shortly.
“He kissed his husband on the cheek in the middle of the hallway. Why the hell did he think it was okay to be shoving that in our faces? And better yet, why does no one else seem to think it’s gross?” Kira complained, laughing.
No one thought it was bad? He could’ve been open about it this whole time?
There really was nothing wrong with him.
With some newfound confidence, TJ began to stand up and responded, “Because, Kira, no one else is stuck in the fucking 1900s. First, you make me feel bad about myself for no goddamn reason, and now this? I’m sick of it, and I can’t be around you anymore.”
TJ walked off, knowing that he could’ve told her off way better than that, but he had more important things on his mind at that moment. More important people.
After making the smallest detour, he headed over the the GHC’s lunch table, chocolate chocolate chip muffin in hand.
He watched Cyrus’ eyes grow wide as he approached them, but before he could stand up and leave him behind, he said, “I have a lot of explaining to do, if you’ll let me.”
“Yes, thank god,” Buffy sighed.
“No.”
She turned to Cyrus and asked incredulously, “No? What do you mean no?”
Cyrus shrugged, looking down at the table. “I meant no. I’m over this.”
“Oh.” TJ set the muffin down on the table, a somber look on his face. “Okay, I’ll just... get out of your hair, then.”
He began to walk away slowly, and Cyrus’ eyes flickered between him and the muffin he left behind. He winced and called out, “Wait.”
TJ turned around at the speed of light.
“Fine. I’ll hear you out.” Cyrus stood up, not making eye contact with anyone on his way out of the cafeteria. As he passed by TJ, he called out, “Swings,” and TJ quickly trailed behind him.
If you leave the light on
TJ took a seat on his usual swing, while Cyrus just stood next to the pole, arms crossed and eyes pointed to the dull mulch.
“Why did you ditch me?” Cyrus mumbled. “You’re the one who asked in the first place.”
TJ sighed, his knuckles gripping the chains turning a bright white. “The day before costume day, I was playing basketball in the park. When I was done, Kira came up to me asking if I wanted to do a costume with her. I told her no, I was all set because I was going to do a costume with you, which is true. I was so excited about it, Cy, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much fun it was going to be,” he began explaining.
“That still doesn’t explain why you ditched me, TJ,” Cyrus replied bitterly.
“I’m not done,” TJ responded, then continued, “She kept pushing, saying that her costume was this great idea. I kept telling her no, I’m doing this cool inside joke with you. And then she said,” he took a deep breath, “‘So you’d rather do a costume with Cyrus than with me? Have fun with that.’ The way she said it, it was like she was implying something, like she figured something out that I wasn’t ready for people to know yet.”
Cyrus had visibly softened at that, now making eye contact with TJ. It was obvious that he wasn’t trying to push too hard. “What... what did she imply exactly, just so I’ve gotten this all straight?”
TJ chuckled to himself. None of this was all straight. He took another big sigh and answered, “She implied that, um, well, that I’m gay. She made me feel so bad about it, like it was wrong. I thought everyone would think the same. Plus, the way she said it, I thought she was going to do something, like out me. So, I took the coward’s way out.”
Cyrus took a seat next to him, laying his hand on top of TJ’s on the chain of his swing. He reassured him, “Hey, you were not being a coward. Sure, some heads up about not doing the costume would’ve been nice, but you were only trying to protect yourself. I know exactly how you feel.”
TJ smiled softly, looking down at his lap. “Thanks.” He then quickly furrowed his eyebrows and said, “Wait, what do you mean you know how I feel?”
Cyrus laughed quietly, “I was not expecting to do this today, but I’m gay too, TJ.”
A massive grin broke out on TJ’s face. “Cool.”
Cyrus nudged him with his elbow. “You’re such a dork.”
“Only around you,” TJ replied. “So we’re good now?”
“Yeah,” Cyrus replied, a soft look on his face that could only be described as fond. “We’re good.”
Then I'll leave the light on

Three, Two, One
[This is a tyrus oneshot based loosely on whatever information @joshua-rush has given us on 3x21]
Word count: 2190
“Andi, the streamers are amazing as they are. Relax for a bit,” shouted Bex to Andi, who was precariously standing on Cece’s railing, hanging up decorations for the New Year’s party that night.
“Says you!” Andi shouted back, demounting the railing. “Buffy, Cyrus, TJ, and Kira are coming at 10, and it’s already 9!”
“Wait,” Bex put down her magazine and looked at Andi, “Kira’s coming? I thought you guys hated her,”
“We haven’t invited her but I’m pretty sure she’ll end up coming along with TJ.”
“But I thought TJ liked Cyrus. He’s dating Kira now?”
“Mom, were you listening at all when I told you about the whole Costume Day mess?”
Bex paused for a moment, trying to muster up an excuse, “I guess, with all the wedding emotions it got lost in my brain. Sorry, kid.”
Andi’s face drooped. A wedding would’ve been nice (to say the least) after all their will-they, won’t-they drama. Something to cement it all. But, Bex and Bowie are still Bex and Bowie. Anyway, she had other things to think about. It was T-minus 54 minutes until the guests were to arrive and the house still wasn’t ready. Cece was out doing some last-minute donations she missed out on during Christmas, Andi was decorating the living room, and Bex was currently lifting herself off the couch to get more chips (for herself and the party) with Bowie.
***
T-minus 3 minutes and everything looked, as Andi said, “Just about ready,”
A playful knock came at the door. “It’s Buffy and Cyrus, I’ll get it!” Andi called to her family as she ran to the door.
“Hi, Alex, right?” said Kira, smiling, as she interlocked hands with a deadpanned TJ.
“Uh, it’s Andi, actually,” Andi’s eyebrows furrowed, “come in.”
Kira pranced into the house dragging TJ behind her. TJ could barely manage to get out a faint “Hey, Andi,” before Kira pulled him away and sat him on the couch.
“Can I get you guys anything? Chips and soda?” Andi asked, hesitantly.
“Chips would be great, thanks,” Andi started to walk to the kitchen with her hands stuck to her side, “oh, and Alex?” Andi turned around and sighed, “a diet coke for me and a sprite for TJ,”
“Actually, I’ll just have some water,” muttered TJ, as Kira shot him a glare.
“Got it,” Andi swiveled on her heel and left to the kitchen.
There was another knock at the door. “TJ, its probably Cyrus and Buffy,” Kira’s ears perked up at their names, “can you get it?” Andi called from the kitchen.
TJ began to push himself off the couch, but Kira pushed him back down, “I’ll get it,” said Kira, as she bounced to the door.
“Hey guys!” she greeted.
Buffy shoved past her pulling Cyrus along. Cyrus stopped when he saw TJ. “Buffy, he’s here. With Kira!” he whisper-shouted.
Buffy looked at the two in disgust before replying, “I’m confused, too,”
“He told me he was going to tell Kira to back off!”
Buffy shook her head and followed Cyrus into the kitchen. Neither dared to look at TJ.
“Andi, what is Kira doing here?” interrogated Buffy, her eyes wide,
“I don’t know, she just showed up with TJ. I couldn’t exactly make her leave,”
“Of course, you can. Follow me,” Buffy retorted as she marched into the living room, “Kira, can I talk to you outside?”
Kira frowned suspiciously at Buffy, following her out to the porch.
***
“What are you doing here?” Buffy started, “You’re not friends with any of us,”
“Where TJ goes, I go,” replied Kira.
“Was that TJ’s choice or was it just what you told him?”
“What does it matter?”
“TJ’s a nice guy, Kira. And he can make his own decisions. He doesn’t need some random girl with a terrible attitude to make them for him,”
“Did you just call TJ a ‘nice guy’? Wow, Buffy, you’ve gone soft,”
“Look, Kira, I’m trying to be reasonable but you’re testing my patience. Cyrus is an incredible person and whatever you said to TJ before Costume Day basically destroyed their friendship,”
“Friendship? Just friends? Because it seemed like more than that to me. Is that really what you want for Cyrus?”
The argument falls silent. Buffy’s mouth is slightly agape. “You need to leave. Right now,”
“Fine. But just so you know, TJ’s with me now. Not Cyrus, me,” Kira huffed before walking out of the compound, slamming the gate shut behind her.
***
“What do you think Buffy’s going to tell Kira?” asked Cyrus, intermittently peeking through the kitchen door to check on TJ.
“She’ll probably get rid of her somehow. I wouldn’t question it too much,” Andi trailed off when she noticed Cyrus’ gaze fixed on TJ, who was currently sitting on the couch fiddling with his phone case, “why don’t you go talk to him?” she questioned.
“And say what? We haven’t spoken since he apologised for the costume, and I don’t know how to talk to him after what he told Buffy and me,”
“About that, what happened? You guys never told me,”
“It isn’t really our story to tell. He’ll tell you when he’s ready. But since he said that, I figured he’d break up with Kira. He even told me he would, but I guess Kira’s still got him wrapped around her finger,”
“I’m sure he has a good reason. I didn’t like TJ for a long time, but I’ve seen the way he acts around you. Something lights up in him, Cy. He makes you happy, and I think you make him happy, too,”
“You really think so?”
“I do,”
Andi was interrupted by Buffy storming back into the house. She sat down next to TJ, silent.
“From the lack of blood on your clothes, I take it you didn’t kill Kira?” TJ remarked.
“I was close, but no. She did leave, though,”
TJ breathed a sigh of relief, prompting Buffy to urge him to talk to Cyrus, “I know you like him,” she gestured towards the kitchen, where Cyrus and Andi were still peering at the other boy, “you should talk to him,”
“You’re right, Driscoll. For once, I actually mean it,” TJ stood up halfway but sat back down, “But I have no idea what to say,”
“Just say ‘hi’ and see what happens. You two have never had trouble finding things to talk about before,”
“Yeah, turns out, we’re a lot alike,”
TJ nodded and stood up all the way. He took a deep breath and made his way to the kitchen. Andi smirked and speed walked into the living room to sit next to Buffy.
***
“Can I talk to you for a minute?” TJ asked, twiddling his thumbs, barely looking at Cyrus.
“I was actually just about to ask you the same thing,” Cyrus replied, “Let’s go to Andi Shack. It’s more private than—” he looked over at Buffy and Andi, who were staring intently at the two boys, “here,”
Cyrus led TJ to the backyard and into Andi Shack. “Isn’t Andi going to kill you for being here without her permission?” TJ asked as he fumbled in the dark for a light switch.
“Not necessarily,” TJ looked up in confusion, “It depends on how this conversation goes,”
“I see,”
After carefully moving pieces of art and art materials, the two sat down on a tattered bench covered in old paint.
“So, Kira, huh?” Cyrus started.
“I know what I said, Cy, but, it’s just—”
“Complicated, I got it,” he paused, “What you told me the other day, you were being serious?”
“Of course, I was. I’d never joke about that,”
Cyrus smiled at TJ, but TJ’s face was still full of worry.
“What is it?” asked Cyrus.
TJ stared at Cyrus blankly for a few moments, “I think you’re really great, Cyrus,” his eyes shifted down to the floor, “and I,” TJ gulped.
“TJ it’s okay, you don’t have to say anything you’re not ready to say. My parents say that’s almost as bad as bottling—”
“Can I kiss you at midnight?” TJ interrupted, causing Cyrus to go pale, his eyes wider than an owl’s.
“Can you—” Cyrus trailed off, unable to speak.
“Never mind, it was a dumb question. You probably don’t want to, anyway. I guess this conversation didn’t go as well as Andi had hoped and we’re probably dead meat,”
“Teej,” Cyrus called, as he noticed TJ getting up to leave, “you can,”
“I can?” TJ said, turning around to face Cyrus, subconscious smiles creeping onto their faces.
Cyrus simply nodded and stood up to hold the other boy’s hand, “It’s getting cold. We should go back inside,”
They switched off the light and went back into the house.
***
“Bex, Bowie! There’s less than an hour left, set the food out in the living room!” shouted Cece from the kitchen.
“Coming, I’m coming,” Bowie pulled her up off the couch and gently pushed her towards the kitchen, following not far behind.
“I think Cyrus and TJ made up,” Bex told Bowie, eyeing the boys as they entered the house.
“Why do you invest yourself in the lives of thirteen-year-olds, Rebecca?” questioned Cece, handing each one a tray stacked with sandwiches and cake.
“When were TJ and Cyrus fighting?” asked Bowie, walking out of the kitchen with his trays as well as Bex’s.
“I’m sure Andi will be glad to know I pay more attention to her rambling than her own father,” she replied, cheekily, taking the trays from Bowie and setting them down on the coffee table.
The kids immediately took notice of the food and stampeded towards the table. An assortment of compliments towards Cece’s were spoken by food-filled mouths.
***
With less than 2 minutes till the end of the year and a room full of satisfied stomachs and neighbourhood friendly music, the seven of them stood around the living room. Bowie and Bex were already standing in the corner, ready for midnight. Andi and Buffy were sitting on one side of the couch, somehow still eating the remaining chips, as they waited for the countdown. Cece was just trying not to fall asleep but gave in and went upstairs after reminding the kids (including Bex and Bowie) to clean up whatever mess they make. Cyrus was sitting next to Buffy, and TJ was sitting next to Cyrus.
The kids’ conversation was a long, muffled noise to the outside listener, but as the clock neared twelve, the chaos turned into a countdown.
“Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four,” Cyrus and TJ turned towards each other, barely three inches apart. The rest of the room faded to a big blur. It was just the two of them and there was no going back now.
“Three, two, one.”
As the rest cheered, “Happy New Year!” TJ had his hands gripped around Cyrus’ waist, and Cyrus’ hands were entangled in the other boy’s hair. Their eyes were closed tight, lips together, indifferent to the world.
The boys pulled away at the same time, when they realised the cheering had stopped. They opened their eyes to four people staring at them in disbelief.
“They really made up, huh?” added Bowie, breaking the silence. The rest chuckled as the new year began.
***
The next morning, the four kids went to The Spoon to meet up with Jonah.
“I apparently missed a lot,” Jonah stated, watching Cyrus and TJ walk in, hand in hand.
“Not much,” Cyrus chuckled and turned to TJ, who was trying to refrain from smiling.
“Baby taters?” Amber asked, approaching the table, “and happy new year, by the way!”
“Firstly, is that even a question, and secondly, you too, Ambs,” Andi blushed.
“So, that’s baby taters and,” her expression turned grim, “TJ, Kira came by earlier asking for—”
“Hey, Kippen, you got a second?” It was Kira. Again.
TJ stood up, “Anything you want to say to me, you can say in front of them,” Amber slowly backed away.
“Okay,” Kira looked around the table, “fine. I’m sorry. What I did to you was vindictive and, if I’m being honest, I mostly did it to get back at Buffy,” she mouths ‘sorry’ to Buffy, “It was wrong. I saw TJ and thought I had a chance but then Cyrus came along, and I figured, ‘why not?’”
“You still made two people feel badly about themselves just for being who they were,” retorted Buffy.
“Sometimes there’s a nice person trying to get out. I guess I still haven’t figured out how to do that. My parents told my neighbours what I told Buffy. I didn’t realise how much that would hurt someone. I’m sorry.” She walked out of the diner without a second glance.
“Well, at least she knows how to apologise unlike some of us,” Buffy joked.
“Hey!” TJ responded, “I can say—"
“Teej,” Cyrus gestured at his hands under the table. He put up three fingers, then two, then one, and gave TJ a quick kiss on the lips before changing the conversation, “So, Andi. Amber, huh?”

“Ref! Come on you can’t call that a foul!”
I couldn’t stop my face from turning red with anger. I barely tapped the Raptor’s pointguard and he’s a baby, they’re absolute jokes. But yeah, I got switched with Buffy to be on the bench.
No way was I gonna sit there and watch them fail miserably without me. I needed some time to cool off so I headed for the vending machines.
I entered the small snacking area briskly before approaching the closest machine. I stared off into space as I scanned the options of Cheetos and Funyuns.
They benched me? They benched me? Good luck winning.
I faintly heard a door open from bedside me and I can’t be bothered to look but I can somewhat hear their feet stop right next to me. A small unidentified voice chirps up from my right.
“Eating your feelings? I do that too.”
I blinked a couple of times before turning to face a small figure dressed in bright white and baby blue.
Buffy’s little friend?
I raised an eyebrow before acknowledging him.
“Chocolate chip muffin.”
A pretty smile crossed his face.
“Nice to know I’m not completely forgettable.” he joked... at least I hope it was a joke.
I nodded slowly before pushing the buttons for a bag of Cheese Cheetos.
“Scary basketball guy, right?” he asked tilting his head.
I grabbed my chip bag before straightening up and answering.
“TJ, actually.”
He saluted to me before pointing to himself.
“Cyrus.”
I nodded before taking a seat at the closest bench.
“Shouldn’t you be cheering?” I said gesturing towards his uniform.
“Shouldn’t you be playing?” he countered pointing at my jersey.
Touche.
“Yea, I should. But I don’t have a choice.” I scoffed.
He made his way to a chair across from me and sat down.
“Well my squad is taking a break right now so I thought from one captain to another checking in would be a nice gesture.”
I rose my eyebrow. He’s the cheer captain?
“Yea I’m the cheer captain. I supposed based on that expression you expected a girl?” He said with a lopsided smile.
I shrugged. I guess I did... but that smile should have clued me in, it was far more inspiring than any chant the cheerleaders could shout.
“Sorry.” I simply answered.
“It’s cool. I’ve come to terms with my interests being stereotypically feminine but get with times grandpa. I’m cheer captain, the wonderful Buffy Driscoll is on your team, it’s 2019, I mean really..”
He spoke with a smile so I guess he didn’t mean it aggressively but he spoke firmly so I know he meant it and he talked about her (Buffy) so fondly is-
“-she your girlfriend?” I asked aloud.
I saw his face fall and his eyes drop to the center of the table. I didn’t like being the cause of that.
“No....” he laughed nervously “girls aren’t really my thing.”
“Oh?”
Oh.
“So... boys then?”
I felt weird asking but it made this confusing happy feeling bubble somewhere inside me.
He seemed shocked I had asked considering his eyes immediately widened.
It was quiet for a few moments almost as if he were considering something for the first time.
“You’re a not-so-scary-basketball-guy, y’know?” he inquired.
What?
“T-Thanks.” I answered confused.
Strangely enough this small boy whose sort I usually would strike fear into saw some good in me and he was optimistic.
After working so hard to create my strong reputation I wasn’t sure whether to be offended or flattered.
“I have to get back to the game. I hope you play again, Kippen.” He told me as he stood from the table.
He’s really kind.
Hold on.
“How do you know my last name?” I asked as he made his way to the door.
He turned around and titled his head
“I hope you know the back of your jersey isn’t covered. It’s says your last name y’know?”
Oh yeah.
Smart ass.
He’s surprisingly funny for a guy who was too nervous to grab a muffin.
The second his hand touched the handle my mouth spoke before my brain could catch up “You didn’t answer my question... the one from earlier.”
Maybe I should’ve kept my mouth shut.
Without looking back he took a deep breath and said “Your memory is better than I gave you credit for.”
He let out a bright laugh, one that would ring in my ears even after I was left alone with my Cheetos.
“and to answer your question, yes.” he added before leaving the room.
Chocolate chip muffin was interesting.
A wonder of an awkward dork and a surprisingly witty cheer captain all in one.
I had only seen him in passing once before and yet both times he left a strong impression.
Currently, he’s the upcoming underdog of my thoughts.
Definitely interesting.

the promposal (a tyrus oneshot i wrote for no reason other than “i need fluff”)
apparently i’m too much of a lesbian to describe boys so please bare with me
Word count: 980 words
[this is an entry from cyrus’ journal (because i feel like his parents probably make him keep one)]
It’s been like a week since TJ came out to me and it’s been three days since I told him I was gay and that I liked him. He said he liked me, too, which is what shocked me the most. I never would’ve expected that in my wildest dreams!
Anyway, the ever so elusive prom is coming up next week and I don’t have a date! Shocking! I kind of hoped TJ would ask me since we had that whole ~moment~ the other day, but I guess not. I don’t think I’d ever have the courage to ask him myself, either. Man, I wish he could just read my thoughts so he’d know. Actually, skip that. Maybe that’s not SUCH a great idea.
Buffy and Andi have been bugging me to tell them who I want to go with. Buffy’s going with Marty and Andi was on the decorating committee so she’s not planning on bringing anyone. Amber will probably tag along, though.
After an hour of incessant whining from the two I told them. I don’t know why I wanted to hide it in the first place, honestly. But, yes, TJ is the “lucky guy”. Is he, though? He’s beyond gorgeous. Inside AND out. Those darn green eyes complement his smile so gracefully and his whole face just goes perfectly with his warm laugh (and he smells like strawberries?!). Sometimes (okay, all the time), I want to hug him forever.
Okay, I’m getting off track. TJ’s promposal (I can’t believe I said “promposal”):
So, I learnt how to “shoot hoops” from Buffy (I should say “shoot hoop” because I only got one in the basket). I stole my dad’s CD marker (from his CD burning phase) and wrote, “will you go to prom with me” on an old basketball I found rotting in the garage.
I texted TJ and asked him if he wanted to play some one-on-one. He said, and I quote, “Who are you and what have you done with Cyrus?” (Real sweetheart, isn’t he?)
Regardless, we met at the court in the park and boy, was he shocked to see me carrying my own ball. He came with a large bag, which I assumed was filled with sports... paraphernalia. He set down the bag and said, “Okay, Cyrus, I’ll take it easy on you, don’t worry. Take the ball.” Oh gosh, my heart must have been beating a mile a minute! I was so scared my nervous, sweaty palms would smudge the ink on the ball, even though I KNEW they wouldn’t. Feelings, huh?
He didn’t even TRY to take the ball from me. He just let me shoot! I was hoping he’d take the ball and see what was written on it but he is just as oblivious as he was that day on the swings. I needed to get him to see it SOMEHOW, so after I made the basket (which TJ was IMMENSELY impressed by, btw- it made my heart shiver... in a good way), I said, “Loser takes it out,” (I think I’d heard Buffy say that? I’m probably wrong)
He said, “Hey, someone’s been learning from Buffy!” with that darned smirk of his. Ugh, he’s so cute!
My heart was still beating like a hummingbird as he walked out of the court, but it was now or never (unintentional High School Musical 3 reference, I’m so funny). When he stopped and turned around, ready to play, I said, “Teej, wait! Look at the ball,” (I was just hyperventilating at this point.) He looked down and his eyes got so wide I thought he was going to pass out from the shock! Then, he started RUNNING AWAY (to the bench). Me, being me, shouted something like, “Wait, TJ, I just thought that since we said all that stuff to each other the other day maybe you’d want to go with me! I shouldn’t have jumped the gun, I’m so sorry!” Meanwhile, TJ is still rummaging through his sports bag, trying to find who-knows-what. He shouts back, “No, Cyrus, wait!” still searching his bag.
AND THEN! He pulls out a chocolate chocolate chip muffin (he knows that’s my favourite) wrapped in cling film, and a sort of crumpled up poster (which he’s still trying to unfold). I was extremely confused at this point because I never, in a MILLION YEARS, thought the poster would say, “Muffin would make me happier than going to the prom with you”, while TJ stands there, looking RIGHT into my eyes.
Obviously, I’m a bit dumb and was, as the kids say, shook. I also chose this incredible moment to let my impishness get the better of me. I took the muffin and unwrapped it, not saying a word. I even took a BITE out of the muffin before saying, “I’ll have to think about it,” Honestly, it took ALL my (two) brain cells to stop myself from grinning like a crazy person. But apparently, I’m not as dumb as I thought I was because TJ thought I was being serious when I said that, and started rolling up his poster, looking like he was about to CRY! He started muttering something like, “Oh, yeah! That’s cool, take your time, no problem!”
He had stuffed half the poster in his bag before I could grab his wrist and say, “Teej, I’m joking. I literally learnt how to throw the ball in the thing for this. I want to go with you.”
TJ stared at me for a few seconds and said, “Oh,” smiling like the adorable idiot he is.
And, yeah! So, I guess I’m going to the prom with TJ! Oh, no, what am I going to wear? I hope I don’t smell bad. TJ smells like HEAVEN, I don’t want to smell like garbage in front of HIM! Whatever, that’s a problem for another day.
