TL;DR: In which Rei has constant nightmares but always had someone to cuddle him to sleep. He realizes that he and Akai aren't on that level but he's the only one available and Rei doesn't want to have a panic attack til morning. So yeah.

Cuddle Bug AU:

- Rei always had someone to cuddle him to sleep after nightmares

- the first time was when he dreamt of being abandoned by his parents, then woke up crying in his bunk bed

- one of the older kids was awake, calmed him down and hugged him to sleep because she knew what it was like

- Rei stuck with her all the way until she got adpoted

- (later Rei ran into her again while in the Academy and they kept in touch since)

- this trend continues with various people he could depend on at the time: his caretaker, some of his foster guardians, sometimes Akemi and Elena when he was in their clinic, and obviously, the zero squad.

- most notably date and hiro because date's massive and gives good hugs and hiro is cuddle size and rei feels safe with them

- blah blah blah, cannon happens, blah blah blah

- hes destroyed everytime each and every one of them got killed, and eventually he would either curl up into a ball after a nightmare having a silent panic attack til morning, or just goes to the closest cuddle buddy he has

- which most of the time is hiro, because hes like the only guy closest to him that hasnt died yet

- on days where he couldnt reach hiro rei would just go to his first cuddle buddy in the middle of the night and she'd hug him to sleep that way

- (she never complains, she has a boyfriend who's in the military and knows what kind of nightmares it gives people)

- (they got engaged and her fiance found out about rei, and was extremely understanding and became another one of his cuddle buddies too)

- (rei feels guilty of course, since hes intruding on their home and personal space, but they honestly dont mind. fiance guy was an only child and never had a sibling, and obvs fiance girl saw him as a sibling.)

- this continues trend continues even in the BO, and surprisingly, Curacao and Kir got added to the cuddle buddy list

- (Vermouth is an honorary member, depending on her mood)

- but rei still sticks with hiro most of the time tho

- (btw he told his now-married cuddle buddies that hes going undercover and he wont be able to reach them for their safety)

- (their worried of course, but rei asked kazami to keep them in the loop and kazami was like, - 'my best boss/friend actually finding a healthy coping mech and has someone to depend on? fuck yeah ofc i would.')

- rye was confused as to why scotch would always worry over bourbon whenever he's away on a mission when bourbon is the guy youd never worry about

- but then rye stumbled upon bourbon hiding in a corner when scotch's not home, eyes wide, shaking and crying silently and it physically pains him to watch it

- so yeah rye is added to the cuddle buddy list but under the emergency only category that featured giant, bold, red letters with underline and italics

- which puts him under even Curacao, Vermouth and Kir but rei actually trusts them to some degree and hes confident he can outrun them for a while

- but rye? the guy that could put a bullet to your head from ten skyscapers away?

- yeah no thanks

- Rei's utterly crushed when hiro offed himself

- look hes smart, he knows that angle the bullet was in couldnt have hit hiro from where ryes standing, but he just lost his best friend and closest cuddle buddy and somebody just happened to be a convient scape goat

- Rei runs to couple cuddle buddies to cry after that, and the two of them plus their 5 year old twins cuddled with Rei in the family convo pit thats converted into a giant pillow fort

- timeskip to current timeline

- the detective boys are added to the cuddle buddy list, so is ai (she has Rei in her list too, cuz they both understood what it feels like (plus theyve made up a long time ago)), masumi and ran (kogoro didnt like it at first and outright kicked our poor boy out when ran hugged him, but got torn into a new one by ran, conan and our cuddle family. added to the list soon after when rei came to find ran but she was away and he couldnt watch this baby-faced kid having a panic attack because hey, dad senses.)

- time skip to a few months later

- rei and akai are basically very reluctant allies (on rei's side) and very much made up besties (on akai's)

- FBI and PSB issued stakeout

- surprise surprise nightmare strikes again

- so rei had no other option but to use akai because he isnt in the mood to have a panic attack til morning, nor could he afford to

- was gonna criticize akai for being a shit cuddler but unfortunately, our tall and thin as a stick boy here was actually on date's-level of comfortness

- so yeah, rei came by to him more often since he's just geographically closest to him, and he knows he cant always bother the mouris or agasa and ai during the night since the kids have school

- akai on the other hand doesnt go to school, even if okiya subaru was required too

- and rei basically moved in every night

- yeah they are practically dating by now

- i mean, rei taking over the cooking since he insisted on thanking akai and would not condem himself to eating okiya subaru's barely edible curry 24/7?

- akai buying extra pillows and blankets for rei since he knows our blondie still gets cold at night?

- rei making coffee for akai in the morning?

- akai dragging a dusty old futon from the kudou's back closet for rei to sleep in, plus washing and cleaning it during the day for him?

- rei having a bag of work clothes over at the kudou mansion since he lives there at night and needs to go to work in the morning?

- akai dognapping haro because he read that dogs get lonely at night if they dont have their owners nearby on reddit and because he knows that rei always worries about the white fluff ball even when he cant think straight?

- them both getting each gifts on holidays and their birthdays?

- eventually cuddling in front of the tv and watching a show or movie together while spooning with a bowl of popcorn in the middle of the night?

- cheek kisses? forehead kisses? hair ruffles? courtesy of akai?

- rei basically cleaning the house from head to toe one night because he deemed akai's sniper nest to be uninhabbitable?

- comfort foods for each other well stocked in the fridge? borrowing the others coats and jackets to sleep in when the other's not home?

- sorry guys youre basically married now.

Today we remember the passing of Joey Ramone who Died: April 15, 2001 in Manhattan, New York

Jeffrey Ross Hyman, known professionally as Joey Ramone, was an American musician, singer, composer, and lead vocalist of the punk rock band the Ramones. Joey Ramone's image, voice, and tenure as frontman of the Ramones made him a countercultural icon.

Jeffrey Ross Hyman was born on May 19, 1951, in Queens, New York City, New York to a Jewish family. His parents were Charlotte (née Mandell) and Noel Hyman. He was born with a parasitic twin growing out of his back, which was incompletely formed and surgically removed. The family resided in Forest Hills, Queens, where Hyman and his future Ramones bandmates attended Forest Hills High School. He grew up with his brother Mickey Leigh. Though happy, Hyman was something of an outcast, diagnosed at 18 with obsessive–compulsive disorder alongside being diagnosed with schizophrenia. His mother, Charlotte Lesher, divorced her first husband, Noel Hyman. She married a second time but was widowed by a car accident while she was on vacation.

Hyman was a fan of the Beatles, the Who, David Bowie, and the Stooges among other bands, particularly oldies and the Phil Spector-produced "girl groups". His idol was Pete Townshend of the Who, with whom he shared a birthday. Hyman took up the drums at 13, and played them throughout his teen years before picking up an acoustic guitar at age 17.

In 1974, Jeffrey Hyman co-founded the punk rock band the Ramones with friends John Cummings and Douglas Colvin. Colvin was already using the pseudonym "Dee Dee Ramone" and the others also adopted stage names using "Ramone" as their surname: Cummings became Johnny Ramone and Hyman became Joey Ramone. The name "Ramone" stems from Paul McCartney: he briefly used the stage name "Paul Ramon" during 1960/1961, when the Beatles, still an unknown five-piece band called the Silver Beetles, did a tour of Scotland and all took up pseudonyms; and again on the 1969 Steve Miller album Brave New World, where he played the drums on one song using that name.

Joey initially served as the group's drummer while Dee Dee Ramone was the original vocalist. However, when Dee Dee's vocal cords proved unable to sustain the demands of consistent live performances, Ramones manager Thomas Erdelyi suggested Joey switch to vocals. Mickey Leigh: "I was shocked when the band came out. Joey was the lead singer and I couldn't believe how good he was. Because he'd been sitting in my house with my acoustic guitar, writing these songs like 'I Don't Care', fucking up my guitar, and suddenly he's this guy on stage who you can't take your eyes off of." After a series of unsuccessful auditions in search of a new drummer, Erdelyi took over on drums, assuming the name Tommy Ramone.

The Ramones were a major influence on the punk rock movement in the United States, though they achieved only minor commercial success. Their only record with enough U.S. sales to be certified gold in Joey's lifetime was the compilation album Ramones Mania. Recognition of the band's importance built over the years, and they are now regularly represented in many assessments of all-time great rock music, such as the Rolling Stone lists of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time and 25 Greatest Live Albums of All Time, VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, and Mojo's 100 Greatest Albums. In 2002, the Ramones were voted the second greatest rock and roll band ever in Spin, behind the Beatles.

In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played their final show and then disbanded.

Ramone's signature cracks, hiccups, snarls, crooning, and youthful voice made him one of punk rock's most recognizable voices. Allmusic.com wrote that "Joey Ramone's signature bleat was the voice of punk rock in America." As his vocals matured and deepened through his career, so did the Ramones' songwriting, leaving a notable difference from his initial melodic and callow style—two notable tracks serving as examples are "Somebody Put Something in My Drink" and "Mama's Boy". Dee Dee Ramone was quoted as saying "All the other singers in New York were copying David Johansen (New York Dolls), who was copying Mick Jagger... But Joey was unique, totally unique."

In 1985, Ramone joined Steven Van Zandt's music industry activist group Artists United Against Apartheid, which campaigned against the Sun City resort in South Africa. Ramone and 49 other recording artists – including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards, Lou Reed and Run DMC — collaborated on the song "Sun City", in which they pledged they would never perform at the resort.

In 1994, Ramone appeared on the Helen Love album Love and Glitter, Hot Days and Music, singing the track "Punk Boy". Helen Love returned the favor, singing on Ramone's song "Mr. Punchy".

In October 1996, Ramone headlined the "Rock the Reservation" alternative rock festival in Tuba City, Arizona. 'Joey Ramone & the Resistance' debuted Ramone's interpretation of Louis Armstrong's "Wonderful World' live, as well as Ramone's choice of Ramones classics and some of his other favorite songs; The Dave Clark Five's "Any Way You Want It", The Who's "The Kids are Alright" and The Stooges' "No Fun."

Ramone co-wrote and recorded the song "Meatball Sandwich" with Youth Gone Mad. For a short time before his death, he took the role of manager and producer for the punk rock band the Independents.

His last recording as a vocalist was backup vocals on the CD One Nation Under by the Dine Navajo rock group Blackfire. He appeared on two tracks, "What Do You See" and "Lying to Myself". The 2002 CD won "Best Pop/Rock Album of the Year" at the 2002 Native American Music Awards.

Ramone produced the Ronnie Spector album She Talks to Rainbows in 1999. It was critically acclaimed but was not very commercially successful. The title track was previously on the Ramones' final studio album, ¡Adios Amigos!.

Joey Ramone died at the age of 49 following a seven-year battle with lymphoma at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on April 15, 2001, a month before he would have turned 50. He was reportedly listening to the song "In a Little While" by U2 when he died. In an interview in 2014 for Radio 538, U2 lead singer Bono confirmed that Joey Ramone's family told him that Ramone listened to the song before he died, which Andy Shernoff (The Dictators) also confirmed.

His solo album Don't Worry About Me was released posthumously in 2002, and features the single "What a Wonderful World", a cover of the Louis Armstrong standard. MTV News claimed: "With his trademark rose-colored shades, black leather jacket, shoulder-length hair, ripped jeans and alternately snarling and crooning vocals, Joey was the iconic godfather of punk."

On November 30, 2003, a block of East 2nd Street in New York City was officially renamed Joey Ramone Place. It is the block where Hyman once lived with bandmate Dee Dee Ramone and is near the former site of the music club CBGB, where the Ramones began their career. Hyman's birthday is celebrated annually by rock 'n' roll nightclubs, hosted in New York City by his brother and, until 2007, his mother, Charlotte. Joey Ramone is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.

The Ramones were named as inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2002.

Several songs have been written in tribute to Joey Ramone. Tommy, CJ and Marky Ramone and Daniel Rey came together in 2002 to record Jed Davis' Joey Ramone tribute album, The Bowery Electric. Other tributes include "Hello Joe" by Blondie from the album The Curse of Blondie, "Drunken Angel" by Lucinda Williams, "You Can't Kill Joey Ramone" by Sloppy Seconds, Joey by Raimundos, "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" by Sleater-Kinney, "Red and White Stripes" by Moler and "Joey" by the Corin Tucker Band, "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black, Amy Rigby's "Dancin' With Joey Ramone" and "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" by U2.

In September 2010, the Associated Press reported that "Joey Ramone Place," a sign at the corner of Bowery and East Second Street, was New York City's most stolen sign. Later, the sign was moved to 20 ft (6.1 m) above ground level. Drummer Marky Ramone thought Joey would appreciate that his sign would be the most stolen, adding "Now you have to be an NBA player to see it."

After several years in development, Ramone's second posthumous album was released on May 22, 2012. Titled ...Ya Know?, it was preceded on Record Store Day by a 7" single re-release of "Blitzkrieg Bop"/"Havana Affair"

Paper Skin Trivia/Headcanons

Well, here’s my (abbreviated) Paper Skin headcanon/trivia lists for the main characters. Let me know if you have any questions or want me to expand any more?

Lance

Cuban and Spanish, raised by his Mom and Grandma, came to US when he was 4.

06/21 ETA: Born a werewolf, as were his brothers and sister (werewolf bloodlines in this AU are Matrilineal and he's descended of only wolfmothers, more on that soooooon).

Refers to Cindy as Mama Garrett and Henry by his first name because he is still a little detached (was raised without his dad present in Cuba so it feels weird)

Loves to climb trees and go up high, instinctively longs to climb mountains.

Didn't do that great at school so he decided to put off college and wound up becoming a jack-of-all-trades and a self-taught chef.

Cooking helps him remember his mother, makes him feel closer to her.

Is a cat person, doesn't like dogs and especially hates coyotes and jackals instinctively. (Will try to maul a jackal on sight. Coyotes just get angry growls.)

LOVES cats of all kinds. Will befriend mountain lions during full moon much to their surprise, or break into a zoo and make nice with all the big cats if left unattended.

Okay so one time when he was a teenager he got into the Bronx Zoo and first tried to chill with the leopards/black panther in the jungle exhibit but it was closed, then he tried to go see the snow leopards & the tigers but couldn't get into their enclosures. Somehow figured out how to get to the Lions.

He mauled a rare deer and dragged it into the Lion enclosure to present to them and become an honorary member of the pride.

The Garretts and some other members of their pack had to break in and drag him away

The Lions were not happy that they lost their new pack member but got over it.

Whenever he visits the zoo as a guest you could SWEAR they recognize him and call out to him.

When he's a wolf he prefers deer or other hoofed mammals and second favorite is rodents. (Ends up eating birds just because of his natural tree-climbing instincts. Also he knows Hunk likes them so he brings him pigeons and quails.)

All time favorite thing he's eaten as a wolf was a Moose that he caught for Keith (will explain in a future chapter) with a very lost and confused Caribou as a runner up.

Least favorite is crow or birds of prey but he gets short-sighted when he's wolfy and sometimes just hunts for the thrill of it. He's taken down a red-tailed hawk and an Eagle owl.

Favorite music: Shakira (prefers her ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?-era stuff), Gorillaz, TV on the Radio, Robyn, Rihanna

Keith

Was brought into the Shirogane clan at around age 12/13.

Identifies as Asian-American since his Dad was part Korean but does not know where his mom came from. Assumes she was of a mixed background as well.

His dad was sired by Akira Kogane, who was of Chinese and Japanese descent so he wonders if that filters down with vampire progeny?

Speaks very little Japanese, enough to answer Shiro if he uses a well-known phrase but not enough to converse

Has a recurring nightmare where tree branches start growing out of his throat and choke him

Really wants a motorcycle but will settle for a car of his own. Doesn't want Shiro to buy it, he's saving his own money.

He's actually a very good driver and Shiro will let him drive his vehicles.

Studied outside of school with help from coven members that were teachers as also some help from Pidge and the Holts so he was able to get his GED at 19

Very glad he has Umbra for a pet because she is very good at helping him figure out the time of day based on her behavior and feeding habits (yes he forgets that his phone will tell him the time and weather conditions because he is so used to living completely indoors)

Has a bug-out room in the apartment he shares with Lance. It's much bigger than the closet corner and has room for some emergency supplies and he's put up some corkboards on the walls.

Prefers type O blood and tries to avoid AB because it's like OJ with pulp (there's too much extra antigens in it). Loves pork blood when it's Lance's recipe.

Favorite music: Dolly Parton, The Cure, MCR, Siouxsie & the Banshees and PJ Harvey

Hunk

Born a werewolf, mostly Grey wolf but there's some Asian/Japanese wolf ancestry

Full name is Tsuyoshi Garrett (born Tsuyoshi Seido but had it legally changed when Henry Garrett adopted him)

His mom is Cynthia Tsukiyama-Garrett, and birth father is Tsutomo "Tommy" Seido

He considers Henry Garrett his Dad, hence why he took his last name instead of going by Seido or changing it to Tsukiyama

Henry gave Hunk his nickname after his half-brothers teased him about being a "runt"

Was great at school and did some undergrad at Hunter, then left to go to culinary school.

He finished culinary school and worked at his Mom's bar while trying to figure out if he really wanted to work in a fancy restaurant that wouldn't give him time away for full moon stuff

First time he met Shay he choked on his own spit because his mouth went dry and he nearly passed out

Second time was a better impression, his little sisters both caught the flu and were in wolf-form and was finally able to be his sweet charming self because he was so focused on his sisters' well-being that he forgot to freak out that the pretty veterinarian was smiling at him.

Had a full blown panic attack when he cooked for Shay without knowing she was a vegetarian and inadvertently won her heart with how caring and concerned he was.

Is practicing making Kushari because Shay's family is Egyptian and he wants to impress them. He already makes fantastic hummus.

His preferred food as a wolf is any kind of fowl (sparrow, chicken, turkey, etc.) Secretly loves peacock, but resists the urge to break back into St. John the Divine's Cathedral to snarf one up.

Least favorite food as a wolf is any kind of seafood or fish. Loves them as a human but finds them too bony and briny when wolfed-out.

Favorite music: Matt and Kim, LCD Soundsystem, Beck, The Hold Steady, Broken Social Scene

Pidge

Irish-Italian, her parents are very lapsed Catholics

Currently in High School and will end up at Columbia after timeskip

Needs to study an animal before trying to shift. Often pictures or online video is enough but really does prefer to be up close and personal so she can nail any vocalizations that the audio distorts or doesn't quite catch.

Her dad has a mastery of most animal forms and also can do inanimate objects. Pidge will work on that next. It takes a lot of concentration and holding her breath

Keith is her favorite because he'll support her delinquency (he doesn't realize it) and she likes helping him figure societal conventions out. They talk or visit at least once a week if not more.

Pidge would make Keith do her homework as a way of home-schooling him (and it also reinforced whatever she was learning, meaning she'd ace every subject and test), it dropped off after Keith got his GED and started working. Schoolwork still is rather easy for her after so many years of teaching herself good study habits by tutoring Keith.

Shiro being ageless is a stable presence in her life, but she thinks of him as more of her brother's friend or like an eccentric uncle

(Pidge has many eccentric uncles and aunts due to her family being half fae descendants, and half metahumans)

Her favorite food is pancakes. Least favorite is eggplant.

Favorite music: Zoë Keating, Tricky, Portishead, Massive Attack, Modest Mouse

Allura

Was introduced to the underground supernatural community of NYC by her godfather, Coran.

Born and raised in London. Westbourne Gardens area.

Came to the US on student visa and goes to grad school for biochem. Phlebotomy is a way for her to make money and help out Shiro, as Coran's family has known of his for years

No, she doesn't know why Coran has that accent even though he's lived in Brooklyn for as long as she knows

Her pet "mice" are actually Degus. She likes carrying them around in her pockets or purse, they are very well-behaved.

She's never going to bring them NEAR Lance because she knows how much he loves eating fuzzy little rodents

Her favorite food is Candy Floss, least favorite is tomatoes.

Favorite music: Nina Simone, Lana Del Rey, anything Stevie Nicks has done, Ms. Dynamite and Kylie Minogue

Shiro

Names all his businesses after vampire things because he believes in hiding in plain sight (Shuten-dōji was the yokai/vampire that turned him)

Didn't return to his hometown after being turned into a vampire. Was too ashamed and scared he would hurt them. His neighbors and friends assumed he died in the Great Tenmei famine.

Despite his issues with aging, he's tried dying his hair but it looks awful so he just leaves the white streak

Was a very good horseback rider in his youth. Joined the military and was a skilled fighter.

It took a while for him to adjust to motor vehicles. He hit Hunk's grandmother with his car, (but that's how he found the Tsukiyama pack so it worked out and she was fine.)

First cat was named Bobō, a calico. Current cat is Kikō, a tabby.

Prefers type B blood but will settle for O or AB. Type A makes him sneeze after he eats.

Not really a music fan, prefers quiet. He really liked jazz when he first heard it so he sometimes puts on very old, worn-out LPs.

He answers to Takashi or Shiro. Shi-kun or Shi-chan to friends that use his honorifics, later Shiro-kun or Shiro-chan, when he took the nickname referring to the white streak in his hair.

He still has a bad habit of not responding if people address him by Shirogane alone.

(Because "Shirogane-san" was his twin's preferred name)

For the ask game, a commentary on your "time present and time past" fic. It makes my heart ache so bad!

aaa thank you!!! (this is so long oh my god but i have so much to say about all my fics)

first, I can’tbelieve it’s been almost a whole year since I posted it, where hasthe time gone???? where has it gone

I went into the ficintending to talk more about like, the concept of running into the‘same faces, same souls, different people,’ particularly donna’s,because I was thinking so much about what laura would feel, seeingsomeone who looked like donna and having to relive her mistakes withdonna and knowing that there was a definite chance that she wouldn’tbe able to do anything about it, even now, like I wanted so much moreof that in there, but then I started writing and it became more aboutcooper

which is, weird,because i’m not particularly confident in my ability to writecooper!!!! i’m only even vaguely confident in how I writelaura. I feel like I always wind up writing her in stories that Ifeel are so removed from canon, even though i’ve really removednothing about canon!laura????? I don’t know. (in fact, looking backon her dialogue in this, I still worry about it.) I actually feellike I write albert the best although the peaks fic I have out therehas so little albert, oops. (before I started really writing peaksfic, I spent a few weeks one summer just banging out some coop+albertfic, so I like my albert voice.)

donna’s ‘sameface’ is named teresa because once a year I get absurdly obsessedwith the godfather and tom hagen is my favorite character inthose movies, and his rarely-seen wife is named….teresa.

I think ‘desperatekindness’ is honestly the best description of donna and i’m nevergonna top that

the title is ‘timepresent and time past’ because for christmas last year, I got lanadel rey’s honeymoon, and one of the songs is ‘burnt norton[interlude]’ where she recites part of the first part of t.s.eliot’s poem of the same name, and when I went to read the poem Iwas struck by how much it reminded me of coop and laura andparticularly where they were, or where I thought they were, afterseason 3.

I really like thepart where laura digs around through her pockets for cigarettes sheknows aren’t there, I was thinking of the muffin scene from themissing pieces where she does something similar. I rewatch a lot offire walk with me when I write laura, especially when i’m firststarting a fic with her.

one of my favoriteparts is “it’s so strange to see her face, filled with all theseemotions, after the calm mystery of his dreams and her corpse.sometimes he catches her staring in a mirror, like she’s trying tofigure out the cause of each line in her face, each dip in her skinshe can’t remember.” and when I wrote that I was thinking moreof, it’s less that laura is processing time and memory but morejust the idea of looking at herself and seeing herself, inparallel to the scene in season 3 where cooper sees himself in themirror, because the last time at least the audience had seen thathappen, it was bob, and I thought laura was feeling somethingsimilar, although the fic is from cooper’s POV so he doesn’t knowthat’s the reason for her (also referenced in laura’s dialoguewhen one of the things she can remember about the original timelineand her death is ‘a mirror’)

I went back throughthe end of season 2 to find out what exactly the last things werethat cooper said to harry and albert and mannnnnn I was soheartbroken to find out that like, it’s basically the same thing,cooper believing that he just needs himself to do something when IT’SNOT GONNA WORK OUT LIKE THAT, EVER

after I wrote laurasaying “i would’ve wanted to help you too” I got brieflywrapped up in trying to map out how a true role reversal wouldwork out with them, where like, sort of the ages were swapped (Imessed with time so much in trying to figure it out), wherelaura leaves twin peaks because bob disappears and SOMEHOW she ends up as an fbi agent and lives with donna (cause why not,whatever) and gets called back to twin peaks (because gordon cole’sjust Like That) when small local teen dale cooper, who moved theresome time after laura left, mysteriously disappears (cause if I wasgonna keep laura alive in a role reversal, I was not gonnakill off coop) (working off the theory that bob’s original targetwas cooper, too) and I had a hard time getting it to really goanywhere, and I couldn’t really get behind laura working for thefbi either, but I wrote some lines that I really liked. I liked theidea that like, they had both used a tape recorder, that was a bigparallel I wanted to work on with it

ALL I WANT IS LAURATO BE HAPPY, and okay, and I thought it was important that cooper try and giveher a choice at the end when he took it from her before, even thoughin this timeline they really have so little options, I guess???? buti’m big on characters changing in fics, even in minuscule ways,because that’s what makes a story A Full Story to me, so it wasimportant to me to have that in there, and I like the ending and thelast line a lot.

Chapter 1- Going Undercover

My boss is a dick.

I looked at him from across his desk and smiled as sweetly as I could. "You called me, sir?" I asked politely in that sickly sweet tone.

Richard, my boss, was sitting on his high-back office chair with his elbows on the desk and his fingers intertwined together. If I didn't know any better, he looked like the Godfather. And it didn't help that his hair was platinum grey and he had a thin, black moustache that was neatly trimmed resting across his upper lip.

He looked like he could have been one of the Kray Twins' henchmen. He was definitely old enough. And he was crabby too.

His mouth twitched slightly to signal that he was smiling--if you can even call it that.

"I called you here because I have something to discuss with you," Richard said in that gruff voice.

Uh-oh. This couldn't be good, I kept thinking as I shuffled my feet. Whenever Richard said that it was normally followed by--

"I have some bad news," Richard said steadily.

And here it was.

"Was there something wrong with my last report?" I asked worriedly. "If there was, I'm sorry sir, I'll get it fixed straight away."

"No, no, no." Richard waved his hand dismissively. "It's not about your report." He paused to think about it for a while as if I had just reminded him of something. "Although, you could work on your words better. Something about the word choice wasn't quite right."

My smile didn't falter but I was screaming internally. Nothing to him was ever quite right.

"No," he continued, "the reason I called you here was because of that interview you were going to do with that band." He put two fingers to his temples to signal that he was thinking. "What were they called again? Bang--"

"Bangtan Sonyeondan," I said finishing his sentence a little too excitedly. "Or, BTS for short."

Richard had his eyebrows raised. "Yes. Well, I have some bad news to tell you, I'm afraid."

Bad news?

"Oh, please don't tell me they've cancelled the interview!" I exclaimed desperately. "I've been looking forward to it all this time. I'm a massive fan of them, you see." I showed him my phone case. It had the letters BTS in bold, black letters. "If they can't do it on the day, I'm pretty flexible. I can do it whenever they want me to. I can even change my flight dates--"

Richard put up his hand as if to signal me to shut up. He had a way of telling you things without actually saying anything.

"That won't be necessary, Minami," he says.

"My name's Mirei, sir" I corrected him. Where did he get Minami from?

Richard gave a grunt as if to acknowledge his mistake. "Yes, Mirei." He says enunciating my name slowly. "Well, as I was saying, you will still be flying to Seoul but you won't be doing the interview with..." he made circular motions with his hand.

"BTS," I say trying hard not to roll my eyes. But then his words just registered in my head. "Wait, what? I'm not doing their interview?" I could hear my voice rising in pitch. "Why?"

Richard was calm. "Unfortunately, our other reporter, who was meant to go undercover for us, has injured her leg and won't be able to do it anymore." He thought for a while then spoke again, "And since you're our only other..." he thought some more again as if he was trying to choose the right word. "Asian reporter," he said finally, "you're the only one who can pull off the job."

I was dumbfounded.

In the whole of the International Culture Department in the BBC, there was only a handful of South East Asian employees. I knew that I was part of the ethnic minority but, I didn't know it was literally just me and Hyemi-- the other reporter Richard must have been on about.

I took a deep breath.

This couldn't be happening.

I was literally a week away from flying out to Seoul and getting ready to meet all the BTS members. My biases. And now, suddenly, I wasn't even going to meet them. I was going to replace Hyemi and go undercover.

"But sir," I said desperately, "I'm not even Korean. How can I go and do an undercover job?"

Richard had some papers in front of him. He lifted one and studied it enthusiastically. His mouth twitched again. He must have been smiling. "It says in your CV that you studied in Seoul for a year."

I nodded. "Well, yes." I didn't like where this was going. "It was for my exchange year in University."

"Then surely, if you have lived in Seoul for a year then, your Korean must be proficient?"

Ah, damn it.

I agreed with him hesitantly, "My Korean is so-so."

I shouldn't have mentioned that in my CV. That will teach me never to stretch the truth in my CV again.

He grunted. "Then, you're perfect for the job."

"But sir," I said, trying again. "Who will do the BTS interview if I'm not?"

Richard leaned back in his chair. "The other Asian reporter will do it."

I stared back at him blankly. Richard wasn't just a dick, he was a dick that didn't even bother to learn your name.

I thought for a while and figured he must have been referring to Nikka. Apart from Hyemi and I, there was only one other reporter of ethnic origin. And that was Nikka.

Damn Nikka, that lucky bastard.

"Well, if that's all I'd like you to go and read the debrief," said Richard handing me a thick folder.

There must have been two-hundred pages in that thing! I accepted the folder, still in shock from receiving the bad news. But then I remembered one vital thing. What am I exactly going undercover for?

When I voiced my question to Richard he just grunted, "You'll be going undercover as a live-in housekeeper to report the daily lives of K-pop idols."

Undercover as a housekeeper? Me? Richard must be joking. There was no way I was going to be a housekeeper.

But then I remembered that Richard didn't do funny. He only did crabby.

"Who are the idols?"

Richard had two fingers on his temples again. He really sucked at remembering names.

"It was some K-pop group that the other reporter was a fan of. Ugh, she wouldn't stop going on about them." He rubbed his temples. "Thinking about all these names are giving me a headache."

I stood there, pondering on who Richard might be talking about this time. A K-pop idol group that Hyemi was a fan of? I didn't really talk a lot with Hyemi. Mainly because she and I hardly had anything in common. But then I remembered why we hardly talked. And that was because she belonged to a rival fandom.

No.

It couldn't be.

My voice was small."Is it...EXO?"

"Yes! That was it. EXO" confirmed Richard as if he had thought of it himself. "You will be going undercover as their housekeeper starting next week."

I stood there, speechless and in disbelief.

Lord, help me.

I, Mirei, an avid BTS fan, am going to live with my fandom's rivals.

And it was all because of my boss.

My boss is a dick, indeed.

Thank you for the Hiromi head cannons!! They were awesome! May I ask another one? If it's not too much trouble could you take these four with Hiromi and describe the child they'd have?? :D

You’re most welcome ^^ Ah, yes, absolutely! Here goes:

Hiromi & Takao: I imagine these two would have two fraternal girl twins (let’s call them Miyuki and Sakura?) and one little boy. Canon is pretty ambiguous as to who Makoto’s mother is, but I’ll assume it’s Hiromi! Needless to say, he completely takes after his father. As for the daughters, I think that having a headstrong mother and a loyal, protective father make them both very independent and very attached to their families. Of the two, I headcanon that despite similar values, one of the girls (Miyuki) has a bit of rebellious phase. She has too much of her father in her and sometimes it’s very tough for her parents to reign her in. Takao loves his kids equally, but sometimes has a softer corner for Miyuki. Sakura is the overachiever though, with straight As as well as sporting accolades. Makoto tries to mirror his dad a lot and hence looks a lot like Takao did at one point. Sakura has long brown curls, but is a rather petite girl. Miyuki has a short bob haircut and really long legs.

Hiromi & Kai: A son. Kai pampers his son (they call him Yuri, lmao. Yuriy is his son’s godfather) because he doesn’t want Yuri to have the childhood he had. But he’s a strict father. Having both parents as disciplinarians is a little tough for Yuri, but his parents are also very supportive of him. So when Yuri comes out to his parents as being gay, his parents happily embrace him. Yuri like his dad has a strong sense of ethics and like his mother is a straight A student. I headcanon that he would not be into beyblading, which would initially bother Kai a little, but supportive as he is of his son, he doesn’t force beyblading down his throat. After all, his own wife was never really into it. Yuriy is a tall broad shouldered boy with light coloured brooding eyes like Kai. But he has his mother’s smile and an attachment to animals, much like his father.

Hiromi & Rei: They have one daughter for sure. And yes, she will be called Lin (not Rin). Lin takes after her father to a great extent. She has her father’s looks (including the long black locks!) and her father’s ambitions and probably isn’t very similar to her mother in most aspects. But she treats her mother as more of a confidante than her father. She’s a very dedicated martial artist and isn’t too academically oriented. However, I do headcanon that she probably grows up to become a chef at a big restaurant (maybe Oliver’s) and beyblades part time. She embraces her father’s bit beast like her own.

Hiromi & Max: They have one daughter too. Her name could be Marianne, maybe? She has light blue eyes and freckles like her dad and brown hair like her mother. Marianne would totally be into surfing and adventure sports. Her love for anything that gets her adrenaline pumping is much like her father. She loves to test new things and often beyblades with Genbu on the ocean itself, cooking up her own waves to surf on when the waves aren’t too high. :D But when she’s not doing pro-surfing she goes down to her grandmother’s lab to assist with research. But I think that she’s very organized like her mother and she is in love with her mother’s roots despite living in NYC. She loves her vacations in Japan and is very fluent in the language.
