i come bearing a revalink suggestion,, they’re friends?? rivals?? but Revali’s been trying to rile Link up in a more flirtatious way and it all comes to a head when the champaign’s are out on an expedition with Zelda and oops! someone forgot to bring enough bedrolls for the night, enter: sharing a bed
yk what i mean
HI ANON i'm sorry i took so long to answer 😭 but thank you for the suggestion 👁️👁️ i've written about revalink sharing a hammock, but that was them in an established relationship, so this.... and they were hammockmates (oh my god they were hammockmates)
the premise of my canon-based situationship fic (if i ever get to write it LOL) was going to kinda be like this, a pre-calamity revalink who have decided they are no longer going to be rivals, but not necessarily friends, and then somehow revali catches feelings for link 😄 i just love the idea of revali seeing link and being like "this fucking idiot. i want him so bad." and reluctantly attempting to court him even if he knows that link doesn't understand what he's trying to do. my favorite part of this is that link is completely clueless. he has no idea what the hell is going on but he appreciates that revali is nicer to him :D
(warning: long ass fucking post. but we are so fucking back baby)
imagine revali trying his damndest to work up the courage to go give link a bouquet of swift violets, because (1) he knows it's a hylian courting ritual and link is a pretty simple guy, so he'll probably appreciate flowers, right? (2) revali thinks swift violets are very pretty flowers actually, and (3) they have a functional use in increasing link's speed during a fight when cooked into a meal, and with how often link gets injured in battle, goddess knows he needs the extra boost. imagining revali trying to give the bouquet to link on several occasions, but he always ends up chickening out or he waits too long so the bouquet gets ruined or dies so he has to gather more flowers for a new one, and when he finally gets to actually hand the bouquet to link, he gets nervous and insults link like the dumbass he is 😭 ("being the one with more foresight between the two of us, i predicted you would be in great need of something as simple as these swift violets. perhaps you could stand to learn a meal or two utilizing their innate effects on the field.") and then it turns out link is actually allergic to swift violets KJDHFKJSHDKFJH and revali has to take him to the infirmary in shame
just an endless string of the most cartoonish failures of revali's attempts to court link ☝️😹 because it either ends in disaster or link completely misunderstands the situation, and of course revali gets frustrated that link isn't understanding his advances, what an idiot! and it makes him want link even more! so his advances become more and more obvious until even daruk is like. hey man. please calm down now it's not that serious. and revali is like NO he's so stupid daruk how can he not understand that i am trying to court him!!! how much clearer can i make it? (meanwhile daruk is like 🧍)
but revali's desperate pleads are answered when zelda calls the champions early in the morning into the throne room for a mission 🙇 i'm thinking maybe there have been sightings of a lynel up in the northernmost part of akkala and it seems to be much more powerful that the citadel squadrons can handle, so they've called in the help of the champions. not that i'm actually gonna write about them fighting the lynel though 😹 you know me, i just be creating context and circumstances wherever i go
"they couldn't handle one lynel? revali says, when the princess finishes. "you would think a fortress chock-full of hyrule's greatest soldiers would be able to take at least one down."
"well, i don't see you volunteering," urbosa says crossing her arms, a faint smile on her lips. "would you like to show them how it's done?"
revali shoots her a glare and then tilts his beak up, tossing his braids over his shoulder. "hmph. i normally don't waste my time on something as savage as a lynel, but if it could inspire better archers of the citadel, then i suppose my extraordinary skills may be necessary there." out of the corner of his eye, he glances at link; the little hylian doesn't react at all to his boasting, continuing to stand calmly at attention. it irks something in revali, but he blows air out of his beak and turns his head again. stupid link.
zelda sighs. "well, if we are all settled then, i dismiss you all to begin preparations to leave. we hope to leave just past noon and make it to foothill stable by nightfall."
"that'll be right in between our homes, miphy!" daruk says, placing his hands on his hips and leaning backward to laugh heartily. "ah, we've stayed at the castle so long i almost forgot what the heat of death mountain feels like!"
"i feel similarly, daruk," mipha says, giving a small smile. "i wonder if my father and sidon are doing well..."
zelda bows her head in remorse. "i apologize for keeping you all from home for so long. i did not intend for you to stay this long, either."
"it's alright, little bird," urbosa says, stepping forward to place a hand on zelda's shoulder in reassurance. "it's our duty as champions to serve the land of hyrule and protect it from all evildoing. if staying a little longer is what will ensure this era of peace and prosperity, then so be it; we can be patient." she smiles at the princess, and zelda stares at her with wide eyes for a moment before returning the smile.
"thank you, urbosa, i appreciate your kind words," she says. zelda turns back to the rest of the champions and bows her head slightly again. "i will see you all in a few hours. thank you."
SORRY FOR WRITING OUT THINGS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROMPT LMAO. ONCE AGAIN. I JUST LOVE TO SET THE STAGE AND CREATE A CIRCUMSTANCE. i also just miss the lack of champions in totk 🥹 but anyways! zelda & the champions meet at the front of the castle and with some extra personnel (hi impa!) & a battalion, they all set out towards the akkala citadel as the sun hits its peak in the sky.
at this point, you might be thinking, why don't they just travel in the divine beasts since they're bigger and can cover more ground in a shorter period of time? and to that i tell you, 🌸 shut the fuck up 🌸 KJDFHKDFJKH nah but in my head in this point of time, the champions all left their divine beasts in their respective regions because they're all still learning to control them and they would rather not go stomping around on random civilians while traversing hyrule. do you know how insane it would be to be a traveler going through hyrule field to visit the coliseum or something and then all of a sudden, a gigantic stone camel with long ass legs nearly squashes you flat? i would die of a heart attack on the spot.
i also think it's important to romanticize the naturalness of traveling on-foot and it would also be interesting to see how they would accommodate for each champions' needs or habits as they travel together; they have to travel near water so that mipha doesn't dehydrate, revali and daruk leave the main group momentarily every now and then to go burst into the sky or roll down further along the path respectively bc they're sick of walking, etc.
the group reaches foothill stable just after sundown; revali complains that they should have just brute forced it to the citadel since it was just further down the road, but zelda insists that it could be dangerous since ganon's power seems to be growing and they could be ambushed by monsters in the night. as safe as the citadel seems, they shouldn't let down their guard! so revali, not wanting to fight with the literal princess of hyrule, just shuts his beak and trudges along after the rest of the group, the calm warm glow of the stable in the distance growing brighter as they approach. he won't admit it out loud but he's a little weary from travel too 😹
link and zelda board their horses at the stable, and everyone else sets up camp just off to the side of the stable, pitching tents, starting campfires and cooking pots, and passing out bedrolls. but as they unpack and pass out bedrolls, they realize that there's not enough for everyone to sleep comfortably through the night. zelda pays for the rest of the beds in the stable to cover for the rest of the battalion, but it leaves out one soldier who link knows happens to have sleeping problems or something. so he decides to give up his bedroll to the dude; it's not like he needs it as much, he could probably fall asleep straight in the dirt right now if he wanted.
"ah, champion link! i couldn't take this from you—" the man starts, but link just shakes his head and pushes the bedroll into his arms, giving him an insistent look. the soldier accepts the bedroll in defeat, but bows his head. "oh... well thank you, champion, i appreciate it very much!" link nods and turns away before returning to the rest of the champions.
"hello, link— where's your bedroll?" mipha says, noticing the lack of one in his hands. link tilts his head back towards the soldier he had given his bedroll to. "oh, what about you?"
he just shakes his head. "don't need one," link says softly. though he's comfortable speaking with the champions, he's still not used to the way his own voice reverberates against his throat; he hasn't used his voice as much as he should since he took his 'vow of silence'.
"what do you mean you don't need one, little guy?" daruk says, scratching his head. "i might be a goron, but fleshy little hylians like you are made for fluffy beds and—"
but link pays him no mind and strides over to a nearby tree (one that happens to be near the two that revali has set his hammock up at 👁️), drops his stuff on the ground and sits next to it, leaning against the tree with his arms crossed. mipha and daruk both open their mouths to object, but urbosa places a hand on both of their shoulders.
"leave him be," she says, as all of them watch link settle against the tree. "that boy is far too stubborn for his own good. once he has his mind set on something, he won't give up."
"you sure the little guy's gonna be alright?" daruk says, face contorted into an expression of concern. "i know he's tough, but i can't imagine that what he's doing is comfortable at all."
"he'll be fine," urbosa reassures him. she glances to the side, where revali is already keeping an eye on link, sitting at the tree where the farther end of his hammock from the little hylian is tied and tending to his bow. she smirks knowingly; "he's already in good care."
so everyone gets ready for the night; the battalion soldiers are already fast asleep, zelda, urbosa, and impa are sleeping in the stable beds, daruk is rolled up closer to the rockier terrain near the stable, mipha is straight up sleeping in the nearby cephla lake, leaving link and revali to be the only people awake. they're both still sitting against the trees, revali making the final tweaks to the great eagle bow and link polishing the master sword. revali has been stealing glances at link the entire time, watching and waiting for an opportunity (and also working up the courage) to say something. even at the base of death mountain, the cold night wind perseveres and revali catches every single tremor that goes through link's body as he shivers. maybe he could offer to...
"why did you give up your bedroll?" revali says finally. to be honest, he could probably already figure out an answer if he wanted to, but he asks anyway.
link pauses and glances up at him, before returning to polishing. revali's feathers ruffle at the lack of answer and he looks away, beak clenching. while he cared not for link's stance on verbal speech, acknowledging him and not giving an answer was rather unnecessary, wasn't it? especially since link had grown comfortable speaking with the princess and the champions, that should have included revali as well—
"i don't need one," link says suddenly, so softly, revali has to hold his breath, straining to hear the little hylian. link's voice is so quiet, it could be carried away by the night wind and revali is borderline obsessed with it, but the answer he gives is the same one he had given to the other champions. so revali says nothing and stares at link, prompting him to elaborate. "torin needed it more than me."
"torin?" revali questions. he wonders how much of the hyrulean army link knows by name.
"the man i gave my bedroll to," link replies, still wiping at his blade. "excellent fighter, great with a sword. but his chronic pain makes it difficult for him on the field." he sets down the cloth he was using to polish the master sword with and holds it up, appraising the blade. it glints in the moonlight quite elegantly. "giving him my bedroll is the least i can do to aid his comfort."
for a moment, revali is speechless; he had known that link was rather altruistic, always offering to help out even if it was inconvenient to himself. perhaps he shouldn't be surprised at all.
"you didn't have to do that though," revali says. he has stopped tending to his own bow at this point, letting it lay across his lap instead. "isn't it 'first come first serve' with you hylians? you were one of the first to receive a bedroll. you could have kept it to yourself, and i doubt anyone would complain since you're their champion."
link only shakes his head. "he needed it more than me," he insists, still in the same soft voice. "as a captain and a champion, it's my duty to care for my fellow knights. we're only as strong as our weakest member."
"then what about you?" revali says, staring straight at link. "if that's true, you're in no better of a situation than he was in previously."
"i'll survive," link says simply, and then, he yawns. at the same exact moment, another cold night breeze passes by, tousling link's bangs and once more does revali watch, completely entranced by the way link's body shivers in reaction. then, he slides the master sword back in its scabbard before raising his arms to stretch and yawn again. "sleeping on the ground for one night isn't that big of a deal."
and revali sees his chance and it stares right back at him like it's a challenge, like an eye glowing bright gold in the darkness; this is now or never.
"you don't have to sleep on the ground," he says quietly, but he looks down at the bow in his lap when he says it. in the corner of his eye, he sees link's arms pause mid-stretch before he slowly lowers them. he can feel the piercing blue gaze of link's eyes searing right through his cheek feathers and in turn, his heart skips a beat. stupid, stupid link. revali wishes he could despise the effect that a hylian of all people has on him.
"what do you mean?" link says in similar volume.
revali looks up to meet his gaze and swallows at the sight of those terribly beautiful blue eyes sparkling at him in the moonlight. now or never. "you could stay with me," he says softly, before he loses his nerve.
and link's eyes widen. if revali lets his vision blur a little, perhaps he can convince himself into thinking that the pink flush on link's cheeks is just the natural color of hylian skin, or just a trick of the moon's light and the glow of lava oozing down death mountain above them. but nothing can change the fact that he can see the entirety of link's irises, or the slight part in his lips.
"with you? in your...?" link whispers, but in this moment, his voice is the only thing the rito can hear at all. revali gives a single nod. "why?" there's not a single hint of mirth in link's voice, only genuine surprise.
revali looks away. "your heroism makes you foolish enough to give up the supplies necessary for your own survival in order to ensure the survival of others," he murmurs. "look at you, you're shaking in the cold like a loose feather. if you were a rito like i, you wouldn't have this problem."
he hears link snort and glances up at him. link is looking at him fully, a small smile on his face, and perhaps they are far too close to death mountain with the way that heat floods revali's cheeks and makes his limbs melt into the ground.
"and we wouldn't want the princess and the hyrulean army to wake up in the morning finding that their beloved champion froze to death in the night," he continues softly.
"no, i suppose not," link replies, still smiling. but the smile fades in the next moment or two, the pink flush revali had tried to pretend was just the color of his skin returning to link's cheeks much darker than before, as if to goad him. "s-so... how are we going to...?" he trails off, staring at revali with wide blue eyes.
revali blinks, and then swallows. truthfully, he didn't think he would get this far, but there's no backing out now. with his heart grabbing the bones of his ribcage and bashing its head against them, revali stands dusting himself off and hangs the great eagle bow on one of the branches of the tree. then, he turns back to face link, who's still staring at him with wide blue eyes and his pretty pink-flushed face from the ground. he walks towards link until he's standing in front of the little hylian, and then offers a hand.
"well firstly, are you ready for bed?" revali says, attempting to sound irritated, like his own offer is an inconvenience to him. but it's all in vain; his voice comes out too soft, too tender, too fond.
link stares up at him for a couple moments more before nodding, so revali extends his hand a little further out. "hurry up then," he says, voice still so unbearably soft. "i wouldn't do this for anyone else."
so link takes his hand and revali pulls him up in one swift movement. but he pulls too hard, because before he can even register it, suddenly both of link's hands are on his chest, his body pressed up against revali's. instinctively, one of his arms goes to circle link's waist, pushing them closer together, and the rito's ears are full of the sound of link's quiet gasp at the pressure; is he depraved to want to push him closer, to hear it again?
"s-sorry," link whispers, just slightly pushing off of revali's chest. "i didn't mean to—"
"it's fine," revali whispers back. with all his will, he lets his arm fall from link's waist to let him step away, resisting the urge to pull the warm little hylian back into his embrace. hylia above, how could revali ever have offered to share his hammock with such depravities rotting his mind?
revali turns away to walk towards the hammock, desperately trying to ignore the electric pull of the string tying him back to link. he looks over his shoulder back at the little hylian. "come on," revali says, feigning all the coolness, all the suaveness he can muster. the show must go on, after all.
revali slides into the hammock easily, settling into a comfortable position, and then he looks back at link. the little hylian stares down at his body and suddenly he feels self-conscious, his crest feathers ruffling. "are you getting in or would you rather stand there until sunrise?" revali snaps, and then cringes at his own tone.
but link only looks at him with the same wide, blue-eyed gaze sparkling in the moonlight. "yeah," he whispers, "i just..."
"just get in," revali mutters, looking away. "i won't fall out unless you're trying to make me fall out on purpose."
and slowly, so slowly, link grabs the edge of the hammock closer to him with hesitant, gentle fingers. he looks up at revali, who gives him a nod of encouragement, so he continues, reaching over revali's chest to grab the opposite edge of the hammock and begins to climb in. with some fidgeting and struggling, link lies atop revali's chest, their legs somehow tangled together. revali hopes the little hylian can't hear his heart drumming its high-strung song against his ribs.
"you're so warm," link whispers. "i didn't think you'd be."
"how do you think the rito are able to live so close to the hebra mountains?" revali murmurs back. "our feathers are insulative and keep us warm even in the most bitter of winters." he pauses, considering his next words, and then continues. "if you ever return to the village... our artisans are working on a prototype of an outfit to help featherless hylians like yourself brave the frigid temperatures of hebra. they are... using some of my own plumage to make it. if you wanted to truly experience the power of rito feathers yourself, i extend an invitation for you to come visit rito village at your earliest convenience."
"i'd like that a lot," link murmurs in response.
the rito hums in acknowledgement and they both fall silent. another cold wind breezes past and this time, link curls closer around revali's body, sighing quietly. instinctively, the rito raises his wings and drapes them around the little hylian's form in response, pressing him even closer than before. they stay just like this, beginning to drift off to the sounds of nature around them.
"revali?" link says suddenly, pulling revali a little bit out of his drowsy.
"mm?" revali replies. he doesn't try to summon the energy to even pretend to be irritated, only wrapping his wings tighter around link's body.
"thank you," link whispers. "for this. you didn't have to."
revali just hums back, letting the drowsiness pull him under. "go to sleep," he mumbles. "there will be more time for gratitude in the morning."
"okay," link whispers back, and revali feels him snuggle closer. there's a moment of hesitation, and in the next, it dissipates as revali finally falls asleep, feeling link's arms circle his torso, embracing him gently.
in the morning, the champions find them wrapped around each other in the hammock, urbosa being the first. she smirks down at them, a hand on her hip and shaking her head in amusement.
"ah, urbosa, where's link—?" mipha says as she approaches the chieftess. but she spots them right away, snapping her mouth shut and blinking owlishly until it grows in a held-back grin.
"i told you, link is already in good care," urbosa says. she looks past mipha to see daruk and zelda walking over, the latter yawning and tying her hair up. when they see the predicament that revali and link have gotten themselves into, daruk has to hold back a guffaw and zelda just rolls her eyes.
"they took their time, didn't they?" zelda grumbles.
"with all due respect, you should not be the one to talk, princess," mipha says, smiling politely. zelda wrinkles her nose at the zora princess, who giggles behind her hand.
"none of you should be talking at all," comes revali's voice, gravelly and hoarse from sleep. the champions turn back to the hammock, where revali gives them a dirty look with only one eye open. he remains in his position in the hammock, wings still wrapped around link who's asleep on his chest. "speak louder than a summer breeze and i'll show you the true strength of a rito's shot."
"my, my, so aggressive," urbosa muses. "has he made you soft for him already?" revali's glare only intensifies, so she holds up her hands in playful surrender. "alright, i'll leave you two alone. everyone, let's go start making breakfast. we have some time before we need to be at the citadel."
the rest of the champions begin to walk over to the cooking pots they've set up, zelda's head on mipha's shoulder and daruk listing off what his favorite types of rock meals are for breakfast. when they're out of earshot, revali relaxes and lets a breath out through the nares of his beak.
"what'd they mean, 'take our time'?" link suddenly mumbles against revali's chest.
revali blinks in surprise, staring down at the mop of dark gold hair atop him. "nothing you need to concern yourself with," he says, eyes wide. "when did you wake up?"
"been 'wake since 'fore sunrise," link mumbles. "jus' too warm 'n comfy to get up. hope you don't mind."
revali relaxes and sighs. "you're lucky i'm too comfortable to care either," he murmurs. he adjusts the way his wings are wrapped around link's body, and the little hylian hums and snuggles closer. suddenly, revali feels wide awake and he swears his heart could jump right out of his chest right now. "do you plan on remaining shackled to my body for the rest of the morning?"
"if you'll let me," link murmurs in response, and the rito feels like the breath has been stolen from his lungs.
"fine," revali acquiesces, once he feels like he can breathe again. "just this once... you'll have to get up to eat anyway. everyone here knows about your voracious appetite. you're incredibly insatiable for a hylian." it's not like he truly wants link to leave anyway... but link doesn't need to know that part.
link hums. "okay." they're both quiet for a couple moments, until the little hylian speaks again. "thank you again for this, revali. i appreciate it a lot."
revali pauses, his heart skipping several beats now. "good to know you possess enough of a developed brain to not take my gifts for granted," he replies, barely keeping the tremor out of his voice. but the rito's voice softens as he continues. "and... you're welcome. my kindness is not a gift i grant as often as you might think. so treasure it now; you may not be so lucky to receive it so freely again."
"i will," link replies, his voice muffled in revali's feathers. the rito swears he can feel link smiling into his skin. "so thanks again."
revali blows air through his nares of his beak. stupid, stupid link. try as he might to reject and dislike the effect this little hylian has on him, he can't help but crave it more and more. perhaps the bestowal of more of revali's gifts onto link are in order...

Hey!!!!!! Give me some legend of Zelda (botw or aoc, doesnt matter) art requests/prompts- I know most my followers likely are unfamiliar with the game but! Simple prompts (like fishing for example) are fine, I just need to practice drawing these guys more :3
(Also keep in mind, I only ship revalink really so no ship requests unless it’s that one, otherwise I’ll make it platonic, sorry!)
ANYWAYS!!! Send some in I need practice

You said you were looking for writing prompts so how about a reverse AU type of thing where Prince Link enters a Rito archery competition disguised as a Rito (in a rito mask because the King doesn't want him fighting or competing so he does it in secret) and beats Revali (by one point) before disappearing. Now Revali is obsessed with finding out the identity of the Rito who beat him because he may or may not want to settle the score (ie court him.)
Oml I love this so much. I kinda deviated from the og idea a little bit just to work with what was going on in my head. I hope it’s okay. Also thank you to my Revalink discord friends for helping me some ideas for how to link (hehe, link) scenes, i was mega stuck for a hot minute.
I decided to split this into two parts.
(low key should I put this on Ao3?)
Italics is sign language
Word count: 1595
Ship: Revalink, Revali/Link
"Are you sure this will work?" Link asked, surveying the merchants many elixirs.
"Positive! I've tested them me'self. That elixir there will turn you into a Rito. Twenty four hours guaranteed."
Nodding, Link dropped a bag of rupees onto the counter. "I'll take five."
The merchant grinned, inspecting his new riches. "Pleasure doing business with you young man."
Link pocketed the elixirs, and hopped up onto his rented horse. The steed pulled against the reigns willfully, and Link wished Epona wasn't as recognizable as she was.
It wasnt hard to miss his royal steed, and if he had brought her he would be caught for sure.
No, he couldn't be caught. He needed to know whether his nightly training was worth it. He needed to know if he could beat the greatest archers in Hyrule.
~~
Seeing the tall rocky formation from the stable was a great relief to the prince, as the long ride had tired him out. He dropped his horse off, and walked to a nearby pond. He squeezed his eyes shut and drank the elixir.
He probably shouldnt have been as shocked as he was when he looked at his reflection. Golden feathers speckled with light blue covered his whole body. Lifting his hand- or his wing to his light blue beak, he opened and closed his mouth in amazement.
Backing away from the pond, he stumbled a bit on his taloned feet. "How do Ritos walk like this?" Link thought, as he started his way to the village.
~~
The older inspected the small boy up and down. "You're quite small to he in an archery competition... are you sure you can even pull back the string?"
Links feathers puffed up, embarrassed. "Yes I can..."
The Rito laughed. "Whatever you sat kid... What's your name?"
"Link." He said without thinking.
"Ah... same name as the pretty boy prince of Hyrule huh? Not exactly a common name is it?"
Link hesitated. "Right.".
The Rito waved him past the check in, towards the range. "Good luck."
Sighing, releaved, Link went over to pick out a bow. The range supplied bows so that no ones would have an opportunity to cheat.
"These are worthless pieces of crap" a voice announced near Link.
Turning to see who had spoken, Link saw a dark blue Rito, inspecting the bows.
"My bow is far superior to any of these... used bows..." the words dripped from the dark blue Rito's mouth as if he was talking about some muck on the bottom of his shoe.
"Isn't that the point though? That we all have the same quality bows?" Link inquired, curious as to why this Rito found used bows so repulsive.
"Tsk, and I suppose you also believe that it's not about winning it's about having fun." Sarcasm leaked from every word.
Link flushed, choosing to just pick up a bow and walk away. As he walked away he could feel the blue feathered Ritos eyes burning a hole in his back.
~~
Link lined up with the other Rito, feeling utterly dwarfed by their height. He somehow kept his julian height, and was at least a head shorter than most others around him.
The blue Rito he'd ran into before was a few spaces away from him, also looking quite short next to his competitors.
The older Rito he'd talked to earlier stepped in front of the lineup. "The rules are simple. Furthest away from the target is eliminated. Missing the target is automatic disqualification, as is cheating. Good luck."
Taking a deep breath, Link adjusted his stance. This would be where he found out whether all of his training in secret was worth it.
Adjusting his stance, Link lifted the bow. It was heavier than he was used to, but his feathers seemed better adjusted to hold the weight. He pulled back the string, and let the arrow fly.
His arrow slammed in the second outer circle. Link smiled, proud that he was still in the competition.
"Tsk." Link heard to the left of him. That Rito he'd talked to earlier was looking at his target with distaste.
He had hit in the center circle, closer to a bullseye than any of the other targets. Yet he looks disappointed.
"Oh c'mon Revali, you'll get it next time." Teased the Rito next to him.
Link looked away, this Rito was too cocky for Link's taste. He nocked an arrow, preparing for the next round.
~~
Round after round passed, Link becoming more and more comfortable with each arrow.
At last, he and one final Rito, Revali, were the only two left standing. The Rito shot him an overexaggerated, unimpressed look.
"Well I suppose we should just pack it up now... I can't imagine this will be too difficult."
Link clenched his jaw in annoyance.
"Nothing to say oh short one? Very well then." Revali turned back towards the target, tugging on the bow string lightly.
Link shook his head, turning back to the targets as well. He wouldn't let this overconfident Rito ruin this. He took a deep breath, pulling back the string.
Thunk
The echo of an arrow slamming into a tree. But it wasn't Link's arrow.
Revali was staring in shock at his arrow, stuck firmly in a tree a few feet away from his target. Link's own arrow was planted less than an inch from the center.
He had won.
"No! That was a mistake, I demand a redo!" Revali insisted, feathers fluffed up in annoyance. It might have looked cute if Link didn't know it was him the Rito was angry at.
"Revali you missed... meaning you lose... just accept it." A Ritos voice popped up from the side.
Shooting a glare that could kill, Revali slammed the bow back into the stand, and took off in the direction of the village.
After a moment of awkward silence, Link was crowded in a large mass of Rito congratulating him. He tensed, not used to having to being so crowded. Life in the castle was mostly him doing his duty of preparing to be king someday. His assigned knight and best friend Zelda and his father were the only company he was used to having.
~~
Revali POV
Landing in the flight range, Revali cursed under his breath. "Those ridiculous bows... they're not the right adjustments... it's their fault."
He supposed the small Rito was a good opponent. Certainly was interesting compared to the usual supposed competition he crushed.
The way he held the bow was interesting as well, it resembled the bow hold of a Hylian. Perhaps he grew up near a Hylian settlement. Though that was highly unlikely. Not many Rito strayed from the village that they grew up in. Many would leave the roost and travel for a few years, but they most always returned to the village to let their family grow.
Revali smiled as an idea came over him. “Perhaps I could convince him to a rematch. Certainly he wouldn’t want anyone questioning the legitimacy of his win.”
Climbing into his hammock, Revali was satisfied that this would solidify his win, and prove that he was still the greatest archer the Rito had ever seen.
~~
The village the next morning was buzzing with news that the great Revali had finally met his match. It took everything in him not to stop and tell the gossipers the truth, that the yellow Rito’s win was nothing but a fluke on the fault of his bow.
He took a deep breath and steeled himself. Find the Rito first, then prove that it was a mistake.
“Would you happen to know where that Rito would be? I would like to apologize for my outburst yesterday.” Revali lied through his beak.
“You just missed him.” The gossiper said, looking at him with- Oh dear Hylia that better not be pity he saw in her face. “The lad checked out of the inn not an hour ago, walked in the direction of the stable.”
Nodding, the blue Rito climbed up to one of the landing decks, and flew in the direction of the stable. Surely he would be able to catch his competitor before he got too far away. After all, not all birds had his gale.
~~
Revali was frustrated. Not only was his competitor not at the stable. But no one had actually seen him leave the stable. The only thing to go by was that apparently his name was Link.
The last sighting of him was when he arrived at the Rito stable, yet no one had seen him leave.
Eventually Revali gave up. Moved on, he claimed. If anyone asked, he would deny that thoughts of the mysterious archer graced his thoughts every day.
And it was definitely because revali was angry about his mess up, not because he wanted to know how soft the others feathers were. It definitely wasn't because he was attractive. No, definitely not.
Shakes head head, Revali turned over in his hammock. It did no good to lose sleep over someone hed never see again.
But here he was, the day before he was to depart for Hyrule castle, thinking about that elusive Rito.
As the winner of first place seemed to be long gone, Revali was supposed to show off his skills to the royalty in Hyrule castle for winning second place. Perhaps king would be impressed and offer him a place in the castle.
Who was he kidding, of course the king would be impressed, he was the great Revali after all.

For the get to know the author ask: 1, 15, 17 and 18? Good luck with your writing tonight!
Thank you so much!!! I appreciate the encouragement 💪 And hope you don't mind a long reply ;;
1) is there a story you're holding off on writing for some reason?
Yes, two stories! One of them is a modern AU with supernatural/thriller elements and the other is a gen story that takes place post-Calamity and it follows an... "unexpected" character, I suppose. Dunno if I'll end up writing them, but I won't share more details in case I do. They're both hefty, multi-chapter projects and they intimidate me immensely lmao.
15) why did you start writing?
I've always wanted to write stories, ever since I was a kid. As I got older and started wandering into fandom, the compulsion to "create" got stronger and stronger. I desperately wanted to fill in the gaps, to pay tribute to the things I liked, but I felt like I hadn't experienced enough things in life or read enough to truly convey what I wanted to. I felt restricted. So I decided to put that wish on hold and learn from the world around me. From many kinds of writing.
For years, I channeled my need to create into my video editing, I poured all my love and dedication into it, but at some point it stopped being sufficient. I still love that hobby to bits, it carried me through some dark years and I intend to continue for as long as I'm alive, but it has its limitations and it's extremely time-consuming. I hit a wall: I didn't have the energy to pour into a full-length MMV anymore, but the need to Make Things was driving me mad.
So, one night, I swallowed down my fear and self-doubt and I opened a Word document. I worked at it very, very slowly, 100 words or less at a time while repeating "it's okay" over and over under my breath. Once it began to take shape, I entitled it Swan Song.
And the rest is history I suppose.
17) if you could give your fledgling author any self advice, what would it be?
Do not try to write fic on paper during your lunch breaks. It's not the medium for you and it will make you think you are illiterate. Use notebooks for outlining, details or general ideas, never for actual drafting purposes.
Alternatively: pick a smaller, less intimidating fandom to start with, buddy (I was attempting to write BNHA fic at the time. It did not go well).
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that influenced your writing style? what were they?
I've probably taken inspiration from countless authors without realizing (my fiancée included), but strangely enough... I'd say most of my direct influence comes from music? For example, the way that Poets of the Fall write their lyrics has always stuck with me, and I think a tiny bit of their imagery has carried over to my stories (see Given and Denied and The Sweet Escape in particular).
That being said, @a-perplexing-puzzle directly contributed to me falling in love with revalink and writing for it in the first place. Without Pinesong, I would not be answering this ask today. Simple as that.

yes hi im here to make a fanfic based off of 'panic room' bc im quirky like that
Pairing: Revalink (Revali x Link)
Warnings: Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, etc.
Summary:
Link has always fought his way through everything. Who says it'll be any different this time?
It's around noon when Link and Zelda are walking to survey damage. The buildings and the fields don't affect Link as much as it does Zelda, who saw it all before with no memory loss.
She's on the verge of tears the whole time, sniffing and walking with her posture stiff. Link has half the mind to say something about it, but he doesn't. He resides to her side, as he used to before the Calamity. He supposes it was an unconscious habit, even if he hadn't had the pleasure of doing it for some time.
Link had stopped paying attention to his surroundings quite a while ago, having seen it before. It was no surprise to him anyway. What's the point in mourning what he's been around for months?
"Goddess, Link. I wonder how you deal with seeing this."
All he does is grunt, not having the heart to tell her that he didn't care.
"Link, didn't you say that you had completed all the shrines?" It's only then that he looks up, mostly in confusion. Why would that be worth asking? He gets his answer only a second later, after following the princess's gaze to that familiar pattern strewn on familiar stone.
He almost curses out loud. Why, why did I always have to deal with this? He catches that thought, and wonders. When had he ever hoped to be done with his job? He doesn't remember that.
Zelda runs over to the stone, hands shaky over where the Shekiah Slate goes. "Link, you wouldn't happen to have-" He gives the slate over to her without a second thought.
"Thank you, although I don't know if it would work for me-"
Link shakes his head, gesturing for her to try it.
Sighing, Zelda hesitates for a moment. She eventually holds it above the terminal, eyes closed and murmuring prayers. When it accepts the slate, her eyes open with the closest thing to genuine glee Link has ever seen from her. "I did it, Link! I did it! I wonder if it's because of my powers... Do you think so? Maybe- Oh, whatever! Let's go, I've only heard stories of what's inside from you and.." Link zones out, not thinking as he steps onto the platform. He wonders if he even has control anymore, watching himself.
Zelda gasps, the feeling of the platform lowering likely surprising her. Link doesn't blame her, distantly remembering the first time he did it. Everything was.. blurry?
When they get down into the shrine, there are two doors. Looking to the sides, there are chests. He walks over to them, grabbing the keys from inside. Going to the door (with Zelda hot on his heels), he tries to open it.
The door doesn't budge, and Link stops for a moment. Zelda hums, grabbing one of the keys from his hands (noticeably sweaty, although she doesn't comment on it. Why were they sweaty anyway?)
"I wonder if we have to open the doors together! Possibly.. Although I wonder how they would work like that, what's the technology behind it? Ah, Link! Stay at that door, and open it when I open that one over there, at the same time! We can see if that works!"
Nodding, Link waits for her to get to the door.
"Three, two, one!"
They both insert the keys, and dull thudding comes only a moment after. Both the doors open, and Link has to stop himself from rushing to the Princess's side, anxious about the harm behind her own door. When Zelda only looks inside, though, he calms down.
"I think we're supposed to enter them.. I'll go inside here, you go there," Link takes a step forward, about to protest, "I'll be fine. You don't worry, I have this scythe. I can handle myself enough. This is for the shrine."
He pauses before nodding. He supposes he's taught her enough moves. Zelda walks inside, and Link feels anxiety bubbling up in his chest. He waits, then walks inside his own door.
Right as both his feet step beyond the doorway, it shuts. He almost yells out, feeling his own voice die quickly in his throat. He doesn't stop himself from banging on it, though, in some hopes that Zelda had escaped and was on the other side.
Not hearing a response, he stills himself and takes a breath. It's fine, he thinks. She's okay. He turns, peering down a corridor. Walking forward, there appears another chest. He kicks it lightly, watching it pop open. A floating green orb wafts out, looking eerily similar to something Link didn't want to remember.
"I suppose I never get a break. Never with you! How many times must I be at your beck and call?"
No.
"No? Tell me, since when have either of us had a choice?"
Link breathes in, willing himself to not think.
"Ignoring me now, I assume. Nothing new."
His body appears, slowly but surely. Something Link wishes never happened. Time stops when Revali fully appears, and it only starts again when Revali waves a hand in front of Link's face.
"I don't remember you being so zoned out.. I suppose you've finally realized that you're talking to the great Revali? About time!"
Link nods absentmindedly, turning his gaze farther along the hallway.
"Ah, yes, we should figure out what this is. I'm not completely sure as to why I'm here, but you wouldn't be able to tell me." The words sound accusing, and Link has to stop himself from flinching away. The truth in those words was a little too obvious. He walks away, ignoring Revali's squawk and the sound of running footsteps. Why could he hear the spirit's footsteps?
They walk a little farther before Link starts noticing the walls closing in. Whether it's his mind or not, Revali doesn't say anything about it, so he assumes it's just himself. Why would he be having these problems now? It's never happened before.
When are we going to get there?
"I assume it will be soon. There can't be much more left."
Jumping, Link rounds on the spirit. Apparently, the taller understands and begins to explain. "I can't hear you, so no need to worry. But it just appears in my mind. I know what you say, even if I don't hear it. Trust me, it's not like I want this either." Revali huffs.
Link turns back, trying to calm himself before continuing. Soon enough, another door shows up. There's no lock to be wary of, so with no hesitation the blond opens the door. There's a familiar room, one of which looks eerily similar to the 'Minor Test of Strength' in a shrine he can remember being hell. Not that it was hard in terms of how strong he was; the bot just had some new moves that confused him to no end.
A shiver runs up his spine (something he doesn't remember ever feeling beforehand). It only takes a few steps more before the floor in the middle of the room lifts to reveal a guardian bot. Link is driven by instincts, running forward and unsheathing the Master Sword from off his back.
His mind was drowned out, and he couldn't hear anything. This wasn't a surprise, it happened every time, and he didn't have anything against it. It was just sorta hard when there was somebody else trying to work with him.
"Link, Link! Can you hear me? Goddesses' sake, are you deaf now too? There's another one! Link, there's ANOTHER ONE!"
When Revali yelled, Link whirled around, facing another bot. He back flips out of the way just in time, and momentarily sees the Rito in the air with a look of relief strewn across his face. "Thank Hylia, I never thought you would hear me!"
Link finishes off the two bots easily, obviously, but is still left winded. He has to stop himself from collapsing. He briefly wonders why he's acting like this before he remembers that Revali would know. Straightening up, he trudges over to a chest that had been at the other side of the room. Opening it, Link finds another key.
"There's no door here, which leaves the assumption that this is going to take a lot longer than we thought."
Yeah, I know that, Link thinks bitterly.
Revali's wide eyes say enough as the blond turns and storms down the corridor.
———
Time passes slowly as Link fights off more monsters, and Revali ignores him. The shock seemed to get the the bird, seeing as he wouldn't look at the fight even once. Unfortunately for the Hylian, this meant that there was no warning when it came to the boblikin sneaking up behind him.
It's only when Link lets out a pained yell that Revali's eye snap back to the fight. The smaller is holding the Master Sword in one hand, while the other is holding his injured shoulder. Revali curses himself for not noticing sooner, and feels himself panicking as the black colored monsters corner Link.
"Be careful, and focus!"
It turns out that it wasn't the right thing to do, as only a second later Link's eyes widen in surprise and he trips over his own feet. He lands on the floor with a thud, the sword in his loose hand thrown to the other side of the room.
"Get UP! Get up now! Goddess, I never knew that Hylia's Champion would be such a wimp-"
"Shut up! I'm trying!"
There's a moment of silence that seeps between the two before Link gets back up on unsteady footing. It's the first time Revali has ever seen Link use his fists, but it turns out that there was no reason to be worried. By the end, Link's shoulder and knuckles are bruised and bloody.
Link fixes Revali with a stare he doesn't think he'll ever forget.
Just don't say anything.
"Don't say anything?! The first words I hear from you are telling me to shut up!"
And what do you think your first words to me were?
The words hit harder than the Rito thought they would. The brat wasn't wrong. So all Revali does is watch and follow as Link takes a sharp turn down the corridor.
———
Breathing is hard, Link concludes. He's not sure what his problem is today; all he knows is that he's two more shallow breaths away from running back to the entrance.
He takes a quick look at his sword's grip, feeling a pit in his stomach when he realizes his hands are shaking. Not a good sign.
He looks away, bot wanting his lovely companion to notice. They had been walking down a simple hall the entire time, so when another doorway appears, Link is rushing to get it done. He touches the door, and feels himself stop as a wave of whatever the fuck this is waves over him. He clutches his chest, a choked gasp coming out. His gaze latches onto Revali, who doesn't seem to be paying attention. He dimly realizes his entire body is shaking. He tries to take a step forward, and has to lean on the door so that his legs don't buckle from under him. He sucks it all up and throws open the door, his breath leaving him completely as he falls through the doorway, landing on the floor. He props himself up on his elbows, bringing in knees under him and leaning on his hands.
The room is suddenly leaving, and his mind wanders through a different one. An empty one, full of something that he can't see. His throat is closing up as he takes hoarse breaths, gripping the cold floor. The things he can't see close in, and he feels himself be wrapped up in what he can't understand. Soon enough, what he can't understand takes home in his own body, and he can't hold himself on his hands anymore. His head hits the ground, and his fingers dig into his hair, pulling.
He feels the wetness at his cheeks and he claws at his face, wondering what the fuck is happening to me?
What's happening? Where am I? Why? Where? How? Fuck- why?
How long have I been here? How long have I been on the floor? Where's Revali?
A cold seeps into his head, and he gains his control again, exhaustion hitting him like a train. His hands fall next to his head, and his eyes fall shut. He's left the empty room, and he can hear Revali.
"Link! Listen, please! What happened? Shit-"
Link thinks about his answer, thinks of all the question the Rito is throwing at him. He knows what to respond, but he can't think. His head feels heavy, and his mouth is partly open, deciding that he just doesn't want to answer.
He's stuck in sludge, and as much as he wants to at least lift a finger to his mouth, tell Revali to be quiet, he doesn't. Even so, Revali seems to understand that he won't get anything from the blond, and shuts his beak with a clack.
They stay there for a while (a few minutes? a few seconds? hours?), until Link pushes himself up, willing himself to not throw up. Standing on unsteady feet, he leans against a wall. Eyes downcast, mouth still open, he stays stuck in time for about 10 seconds, before fixing his hair and continuing.
"Link! How could you- Do you- What the fuck? Link, why won't you just speak?!"
The Hylian only nods, then shrugs, trudging along.
He doesn't know what happens next, just knows that he pulled in an embrace. He feels feathers, and smells the open sky. Eyebrows shooting up, Link's hands shoot up to the bird's shoulders, pulling away to see Revali's shocked face.
You could- You could touch me this entire time?
"I didn't- I wasn't aware, no."
You...
"What is it?"
If you can...
Revali tilts his head, something that reminds Link of the dogs he's met at the stables. It's.. endearing.
Revali clicks his beak, looking to the side. "Would you stop looking like that? It's weird-"
Link pulls forward, wrapping his arms around the Rito's waist. Sqwaking, Revali almost pushes the small Hylian off- but he quickly thinks better of it. He's quite lucky he has feathers covering him, or else he'd be in some trouble.
He can feel Link's breaths, and when the Hylian nuzzles into him he has to calm down.
Boy is he lucky, he thinks. Without the feathers on his face, he'd be screwed.
———
They keep going on, the moment before forgotten. Link's surprised to see that there are no monsters, and Revali's relieved. He doesn't think he can watch Link like that again.
He doesn't remember feeling so scared- not since windblight, anyway.
Revali watches Link closely the rest of the way. There's no signs of him falling again. Sure, he still shaking, but that's to be expected. When they climb a ton of stairs, Revali doesn't think twice about it. He's looking at Link so much that he doesn't even realize that they had reached yet another door. When Link goes to grab the handle, Revali takes a step forward. The blond looks back at him, raising an eyebrow. It becomes clear that he understands, though, because Link nods, and starts opening it slowly.
Light floods through. Not just generic light. It's natural. He hears a gasp from the Hylian; something that reminded him a little too much of the.. problem earlier.
"Revali- We're outside!"
The smaller's voice eases the Rito's mind, and he has to stop himself from smiling.
"Yes, I see that."
The both of them step out into the light, and Revali feels a weight off his shoulders.
"Link! I was afraid you would never come out! I had some time to think, and I think the shrine was us having to face our fears-"
He watches as Link runs towards Zelda, the man immediately checking her for injuries.
"Link, I'm fine! You look a little worn though, are you okay?"
He smiles, holding up a sign which Revali assumes means okay.
"I suppose it is my time to leave. I believe I will see you again."
Zelda startles, eyes whipping to the Champion. "You had a champion with you too?! I had Mipha, I had thought that it was just because she could help me through my fears but- wait, did Revali help you?"
"Zelda, If you could give us room to think, it would be great."
He looks back to the Hylian, stuttering when he sees Link's eyes cloud with unshed tears.
"I'm sure you'll be fine without me." He huffs.
Link shakes his head, going to hug him again. Zelda doesn't say anything; something that Revali is endlessly grateful for.
He hears Links sigh, and freezes at his next words.
"Thank you, Revali."
It's only then that Revali smiles, nodding his head. "You'll be fine."
Link nods, then lets go. Revali vanishes into the air.
"I'll watch over you from now on. You'll be fine."

Day 5 of Revalink: Truth
Did I post these out of order? Yes, yes I did, because I suck at writing quickly. Nonetheless, today I bring to you a collab with one of my friends @xcookix
This is the part 2 of a little fic, he wrote part one here so read his first if you want to understand whats going on in this one!
Anyhow, enjoy!
- - - - -
A part of me longs to see him
A part of me dreads it.
Link got off his horse, boots falling onto the grass and dry pine needles that surrounded Rito Stable. The Princess’ hair whipped wildly, the breeze crisp and cutting. Even his own blond hair was barely being tied together. Zelda, quill in hand, was scratching away in her journal, jotting down some unseen royal notes before turning abruptly to Link. “Alright then, you can just escort me up until we reach the elder’s house. I just have to discuss a few things with him for the day, so you can go off and do whatever it is you do in your spare time.” The knight held up his hands to sign, confused.
‘Shouldn’t I still be there? I can just stand in the corner or something.’
“Oh please, you and I both know that the last time you listened in on these kinds of meetings you practically fell asleep. When we were at the Domain you literally asked for a pillow!” Zelda exclaimed, rolling her eyes.
He shrugged, ‘They were cool! Both literally and figuratively.’
The princess let out a scoff, “I would have thought you would have been excited at the chance to run off. Considering we’re so close to you-know-who again.”
Walking towards the wooden bridges, Link shook his head.
‘No, I am definitely not excited about that.’ He clenched his fists tightly. ‘Revali probably doesn’t want to see me either.’
Zelda paused and cast him a curious glance. “Why’s that? Oh no, did something happen between the two of you?”
A frown crossed Link’s face as he thought back to that day at the castle. He thought back to how he had opened up to Urbosa. He recalled how shaky and frustrated he had been, how he vented about his frustrations without restraint, how he had talked about his exasperation about his relationship with Revali, and all of his faults, how he…
Link let out a deep sigh.
He remembered how before he could finish his last sentence, he felt a rush of air from around the corner, and the faintest streak of blue from the corner of his eye. A shade of blue he knew all too well.
Revali had heard everything. At best, he heard everything, at worst, he only heard the bad parts. Either way, he probably hated him even more for it.
Zelda broke into his thoughts. “Link, do you not have those feelings for him anymore?”
‘No, I do, I just—’
“Did he do something wrong?”
‘No! I mean, maybe? No, it’s not really him. It’s nothing, not a big deal really.’
“So, you don’t want to see him?”
‘I do! I mean, I want to but I just think—’
“I thought you told me that—”
“I KNOW!”
They both blinked, startled at his sudden outburst. The princess looked at the ground, embarrassed. She hadn’t realized the situation was so serious that it even brought Link out of his silent oath. After a beat, Link started to sign again.
‘I know that I said I liked him and all, but something happened. I am almost positive that he hates me now. So I don’t think it’s wise for me to see him…’
They continued on their path as they made their way up the stairs, passing through the bustling Rito. Finally, they arrived at the Elder's abode. Zelda turned to Link once more. “To reiterate, you aren’t staying here.” He nodded. “Maybe you can just walk around for a bit. I’m sure Revali is at the Flight Range, per usual, so you won’t run into him if you just stay around here.” He nodded again. Another pause. Link took the silence as a cue to start leaving. Then Zelda called out.
“I still hope you can sort out whatever confusion you’re going through. It seems to me you really care for him, afterall…”
- - - - -
The view was nice enough, except for the constant whipping of wind. The clouds merged into silver and murky grey strokes, and a snow storm seemed to be forming along the Hebra Mountains. The wooden landing creaked from Link’s weight, as he lay his crossed arms across the railing.
He had been out here for the last thirty minutes, watching the wind rush through the pine trees. Every now and then, he’d fix his hair as it flew into his face— the simple ponytail his blond hair was in wasn’t cutting it in these conditions.
The said wind started to pick up again and, instinctively, Link started to run his fingers against the flying strands of hair. However, this time, the wind was rising from under him. He didn’t notice it at first, but after it started to swirl in large gusts and pick up in speed, his blue eyes suddenly shot up in realization.
Wait! He’s back? Link thought, frantically.
He started to move himself away from the railing, ready to start heading towards the stairs, but he hesitated, for just a moment, wondering to himself if he should stay.
Then, it was too late, and a familiar blue streak shot through the air.
Link held an arm in front of his face, covering himself from the rushing winds. After another moment, it stopped, and Revali landed and perched himself on the railing.
What would he say? Probably something along the lines of, “The Hylian Champion? So deterred by a few gusts of air?” Followed by something like, “As expected, considering my ability requires an unprecedented amount of strength and concentration. Nonetheless, one would assume such an important figure such as yourself would be more resilient.” Yeah, and he would follow it up with a quip with how messy his hair was, or something about his skill or—
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it.”
Link could only stand there, unsure of what to say. After a moment, all he could bring himself to sign was:
‘Yeah, I guess it has.’
Not like he had been counting the days or anything.
There was a gentle look in Revali’s jade eyes, something Link couldn’t quite place. Not only was it weird to start off a conversation with Revali so...naturally, but the fact that he was just standing there, quietly, well it was new to say the least.
“Your hair’s a mess,” Revali said, softly.
Link chuckled to himself. At least this was slightly familiar.
‘Yeah, I know. It’s the wind up here. It keeps…’
He let his arms fall, as he looked at Revali, curiously. The Rito was shuffling through a satchel on his waist, focused on finding some unseen item.
“Now don’t go blaming the forces of nature for your irresponsibility. You’ve been here plenty times before and still haven’t developed any foresight? Ugh, where is my gi— Aha!”
From his satchel, he pulled out two long pieces of thin fabric, an emerald green in color.
Hair ribbons.
Revali smirked at the look on Link’s face. Holding them out, they danced and fluttered in the wind for a moment. “These should do nicely. If you’re capable of braiding them correctly, it should keep that monstrosity that you call a haircut at bay.”
He stepped off the railing and offered them to him. “And...I suppose the colors work well with your little golden head. The coincidence works out in your favour I guess.”
Link took them, and held them in one hand. Then he looked up.
‘So what are you doing here? Weren't you busy at the flight range?’
The Rito shrugged. “Was practicing with bomb arrows today. So I needed to get some new targets.”
Ah, so that was the reason. Nothing else, huh… Link thought to himself.
‘Oh, well, don’t let me keep you. You go on ahead, I’m just waiting for the princess to finish up some stuff,’ he signed, gesturing towards the wooden stairs.
Revali’s eyes seemed to narrow for a moment, an assortment of words seemed to bounce around in his head, but he said nothing. After an uncomfortable silence, he sighed and started walking.
“Right, I’ll do that, then.”
He started walking towards the stairs. Link continued to stand there in silence. More thoughts started to rush through his head. What am I doing? Who knows when the next we’re going to speak. I should be apologizing! For everything! Or at least thanking him for these ribbons. I should have kept up the conversation! What am I doing?? I’m such an idiot, I just need to—
“Revali, wait!”
At the sound of his voice, Revali immediately whipped around to face him, a new glimmer in his eyes. Link let out a huff of air.
“No need to act surprised. We both know you were there that day.” The Rito just stared at him. Then, Link raised an eyebrow. “Although, I’m a bit surprised you reacted so quickly to my voice.” I would have thought he would have at least taken a moment to recognize it...
Revali strode towards him, and as if reading his mind, he clicked his tongue. “I haven’t forgotten the sound of your voice ever since that day. I remember it quite well, so if a shocked face is what you were after, then I’m terribly sorry to disappoint.”
The two stared at each other, Link’s hand still clenched around the hair ribbons. Looking up at the Rito, he could see the reflection of his own face in his eyes. Finally, he took a deep breath.
“I just...I just wanted to say I was sorry.”
The tension in his shoulders seemed to relax.
“All those bad remarks I made about you...I’m not sure how much you heard...but you have to know none of that was true. I really do respect and admire you, Revali, I think… I was just stressed out that day, so I hope you know that I’m really, really sorry and I regret it fully.”
Another silence. Link tensed himself, ready for some harsh rebuttal.
Then, Revali let out a laugh. A loud, boastful, beautiful laugh. He let it echo out for a few seconds. “You really are a fool if you think you are the one who needs to apologize in this scenario.”
“Revali you don’t—” he began, starting to protest.
“Ashhshhshhshh!” He exclaimed, holding up a feather to silence him, “You’ve decided to remain quiet throughout our entire relationship, what’s five more minutes?”
Link looked away, his cheeks rosening, embarrassed. The Rito straightened his scarf.
“Now then, concerning our aforementioned scene at the castle, I did happen to hear quite a few things from you. As you have said, I heard your comments about me, and the fact that you failed to mention that you had the ability to communicate verbally.
“I won’t push for details. I can only assume it has something to do with the whole stoic demeanor you attempt to keep up at every waking hour of the day. However, something you said did...stick with me.”
He turned his back and paced across the landing. “If I recall correctly, it was something about ‘seeing good’ in me. Now I don’t know what led you to that conclusion, but obviously you’re mistaken. Everyone can see good in me, considering I am the best at my craft. Sure, I recognize that my comments about you might have stung, or that sometimes my unwavering confidence can be...prickly, towards you.
“But of course it’s not my fault that you took those comments so personally, or that you decided that your best course of action was to avoid me for so long. And it’s not my fault that you’re...”
He snuck a glance at Link’s face. Revali let the confidence in his posture fall.
“No...no, none of that’s not true. This whole thing is, in a more significant portion, my fault.”
Link shook his head. “Revali, I’m the one who was so butt hurt about the quality of our relationship, and then turned around and kept a secret from you for so long.”
“Well, it’s at the very least half my fault, for lying to you.”
Link raised an eyebrow. “About what?”
“About a lot of things. Every single one of those comments about your hair and your face and skill and whatnot...though, not everything. I do despise you to be clear. I despise your unwavering strength and strong will. I despise your courage and generosity. I despise the way your stupid blue eyes light up when you look at something in fondness.”
Link could only stare at him, his blue eyes glistening.
Revali let out a huff. “Yes! Exactly! Like that, why do you keep doing that around me? Even when I’m trying to open up, you keep acting all cute like this. Stop it, stop it!” Link held up his arms in surrender, the sliver of a smile creeping onto his face. Revali let out a sigh and continued.
“Now, most of all I despise the way you make me feel. We’re supposed to be these great accomplished Champions, correct? How am I supposed to fulfill that role when I’m thinking about you all the time? I hate that I’m too much of a coward to actually confront you about this sooner. I wished I did do this sooner, because now…”
He made a motion with his wing, gesturing to the space between them.
“Now, I’ve made it weird. It wouldn’t be too far fetched to say I’ve ruined it. In my haste to preserve my foolish pride, I hurt you, and I’m sorry.”
The final silence sat between them.
Seeing Link fail to respond or react, he sighed, “I completely understand if these...feelings aren’t mutual. It’s only natural that after everything I’ve—”
Suddenly, Link shot up and wrapped his arms around him, pressing his lips against the tip of his beak.
After a moment, he let go, and held out his arms to sign.
‘Apology accepted.’
The feathers on Revali’s neck started to floof up. “What in Hylia’s name was that?? You really are an idiot, you can’t just do that to people out of the blue.”
Link could only smile. ‘I don’t just do it out of the blue, I’ve been saving it for you.’
His cheeks flushed, and if Revali didn’t have any feathers they probably would have been blushing together. Finally, Link held out the hair ribbons.
‘Why don’t you help me with these then, as a further apology?’
Revali scoffed, but complied, too elated to think of any interesting quips
Looking to the side as Revali started to braid the ribbons into his hair, Link sighed. ‘The color does match really well’
Revali scoffed. “Of course, I’m never wrong.”

A Simple Proposition (A RevaLink fic)
A Revali/Link fic. Sort of… Cause the fandom is lacking in that department.
Summary: “Let me ride you.” In which Link swallows his pride and Revali nearly swallows a whittling knife.
“Let me ride you.”
Revali nearly swallowed the blade he was holding in his beak as he blanched at the statement. He had been in the process of whittling branches into new arrows in peace before the so-called Hero showed up. “What?!” He coughed out.
He looked to the Hylian in shock, when had Link become so… so bold? Better yet, since when has the ‘almighty hero of legend’ desired a Rito in such a fashion? Not that he could blame Link after all, Revali was quite the accomplished individual. Ace archer, inventor of his own wondrous aerial technique, and devilishly handsome to boot, but that was beside the point, he’d never expected such a request from the other Champion.
“I- I said, ‘let me ride you.” Revali realized Link hadn’t made eye contact with him once since he approached the Rito’s perch atop the village. Now he thought he could even make out a blush tinting the Hylian’s cheeks, serves him right for making such a straightforward request.
Taking a moment to regain his composure as not burst into flames from the heat burning his own skin beneath his feathers at the boy’s words, Revali eventually coughed lightly into a fisted wing before replying with a raised brow, “that is quite a scandalous request, Hylian.”
He rarely addressed Link by his name, it felt far too informal for the mere acquaintanceship-border-rivalry they had going on. Then again, with this new development, perhaps Revali would need to reconsider where exactly they stood.
“It is?” Link finally looked at him, confusion and a bit of regret evident in his expression.
He knew he had always teased the boy about being dim, but he never believed that it was true, or perhaps all Hylians were so audacious in such advancements. “Oh, absolutely,” Revali stood and advanced towards Link, shaking his head in mock disappointment as he continued. “To think princess Zelda’s appointed knight of all people,” the Rito circled the blonde as he’d grown accustomed to doing, a subconscious intimidation tactic. “coming to me, a fellow Champion, and propositioning-”
Link cut him off, whirling around to face him, “But you’re the only one who can do it!”
The slight hint of desperation in Link’s tone caught him off guard. He certainly felt flattered that the Hero held such an opinion of him, and if he was being honest with himself, someone would have to be blind not to notice how unfairly attractive this particular Hylian was, no matter what race you were. In truth, it’d be a lie to say that Revali had never entertained illicit thoughts about the young blonde, so maybe he should listen to what Link had to say, it could surely benefit them both from the sounds of it and perhaps bridge the gap caused by their bitterness towards each other.
“The only one you say?” Revali had stopped his pacing and held a thoughtful hand to his face. It was all for show at this point, he couldn’t seem too eager to go along with Link’s plan and it was certainly always a joy to tease the boy.
“Yes.” Link gave him a steely gaze, clearly trying to remain prideful despite his shameless proposal.
“Very well, Link, you have intrigued me, but before I give consent to this arrangement, tell me this: why me? Surely you have other options.”
Link shrugged, seemingly more at ease now that the request was made and he’d all but gotten his confirmation. “It’s like you said before, I can’t get up to the Divine Beast on my own. And I’m not quite comfortable asking any other Rito to-”
“Wait, the Divine Beast?” Revali cut the young swordsman off, feeling as though he just flew directly into a hurricane he was so disoriented by that statement. “What are you-? How does the Divine Beast have a thing to do with any of this…” Revali trailed off as his confusion was cleared by his own sudden understanding. His eyes widened, he realized now that Link wanted to Revali to take him up to Medoh, of course that’s what he was asking. How had he been so idiotic to believe otherwise? Link wouldn’t make eye contact because he hated having to ask Revali of all people for help, he’d been red out of anger or humiliation earlier, not blushing in embarrassment of asking Revali to… for them to…
The Rito Champion snapped out of his thoughts to see Link watching him questioningly. The Hylian mush have asked him a question, but he was too lost in the despair of his own thoughts at the realization of the nature his own shameful mind took Link’s request and, whether he liked it or not, the disappointment that he had come to the wrong conclusion. “Forget what I just said,” he waved a feathered hand.
“So you’ll take me then?” Link prompted, it wasn’t really a question, but also not as demanding as what he had started with.
“Not a chance,” he replied, smirking when he saw the boy’s face fall immediately. Anticipating the imminent protest, he raised his palm to the Hylian’s face as he continued. “And before you ask, I’ve changed my mind. After all, how do you expect to become strong enough to defeat Ganon if you’ve got someone holding your hand every step of the way?”
That seemed to get under the Hero’s skin if that glare was anything to go by, not that Revali cared, it was all in a day’s work. With everything being as it should, Link envious of his superior abilities, Revali more-or-less flaunting them in his face, the Rito deemed it high time he make his leave and forget about the brief misunderstanding and attempt to erase the vivid images it conjured in his mind.
Striding over to reclaim his bow and newly crafted arrows before securing them on his back, he was ready to take off, ignoring the Hero’s annoyed silence for it was a common occurrence. Back to the Hylian, Revali bent his knees and spread his wings in preparation to take flight when a challenging voice behind him halted his movements.
“What if I beat you at your own game?” Revali looked over his shoulder at the stubborn boy, hands fisted by his sides and eyes set in determination.
The Rito scoffed, “and what game would that be?” He turned towards Link. “As a Hylian, you’ll never be able to fly, despite how much I’d love to see you jump off this rock formation right this very instant, I don’t think the other Champions would be very pleased with me.”
“How about archery then?”

Warming Up
Revalink Week Day 1: First Date
Here’s a quick one-shot that I sort of just whipped together, because I forgot to plan something for today. So, enjoy!
- - - - -
The wind whistled along with his song.
A simple tune, that he hummed with the morning birds.
The fire crackled, flames licking at the bottom of the metal wok.
The cozy campsite warmed Link’s body and heart.
The breeze continued to comb through the trees. The smell of pine, and the blur of evergreens tangled through the air. The sky was painted a delicate blue, with silver clouds lacing between the morning sun’s rays.
Link held the herbs, slowly chopping them and letting them fall into the stew. They drifted like soft petals, before letting out a satisfied sizzle when making contact with the rest of the ingredients. The aroma was incredible. It tugged at his senses, and pulled out the coziest memories from his mind. A smile formed on his lips, as he continued to cook, humming nothing in particular.
He had chosen this spot carefully. Surrounded by trees and away from the eyes of tourist and wanderers. The view of Lake Totori below reflected the sparkle of the sun perfectly. Behind him, the towering figure of Rito Village could be seen, and carved into it stone center, was a hole. At just the right angle, at this particular spot, it’s shadow cast the shape of a heart across the grass.
Cliché, to be sure, but would Revali expect anything less?
Suddenly, the wind struck again, nipping at his face. Link shivered.
But the rush of air was familiar, and he turn around to face him.
Every sound in the forest reminded Link of Revali. The call of the wind, seemed to whisper his name. The green blur of the forest revealed shades of jade and emerald that sparkled like his eyes. He looked towards the sky, and his stomach fluttered to actually see the dash of deep blue cutting through the sky like an arrow.
Revali descended in a spiral of air, and loose dirt and grass. When his feet gripped the dirt, he raised an eyebrow at Link, taking in the scene. While he had always prided himself on his great speed, he was a bit annoyed to find his punctuality had been upstaged.
“Rather early, I see,” he shifted his gaze from the cooking pot, to the wild flowers and trees, to the shadow of a heart that lay across the grass. “Quite the set up for a casual date, don’t you think?”
Link scratched the back of his head, chuckling quietly. Then, he picked up a wooden bowl. “Uh, would you like some spicy meat stew?”
Observing his smile for another moment, the Rito stood in silence, for just a moment. The cutting breeze carried the savoury scent of the stew towards him. Revali could already imagine its smooth consistency and spicy sensation. He scoffed, disguising the excitement on his face. “So long as it’s edible...”
Link took a wooden spoon, and poured two bowls of stew, the steam twirled through the air. “I just hope it will warm you up enough. I hear the temperature's gonna drop later today.”
Revali clicked his tongue. “I’m afraid it will take more than an icy breeze to breach through my magnificent feathers.”
“Ah...I guess that’s true...”
They sat in the grass, the morning dew sticking to their clothes. Link fiddled with his spoon, staring intently at the ground in an attempt to hide his rosening cheeks. “Still, I personally don’t want to freeze to death.” Revali look at him, noticing his slight shiver.
He wrapped his wing around him, hesitantly. For a moment, the Hylian did nothing but tense, frozen in uncertainty. Then, Link leaned into it, closing the distance. The feathers on Revali’s neck fluffed up from embarrassment, but Link didn’t notice. Finally, they both allowed themselves to relax.
“Well, if I ever need to warm myself further still,” Revali looked away, speaking quietly, “I always have you...”
