oughh i wanted to do a cute laishuro take on the blu ray extras (what if laios had been eaten instead) but lets be honest. they absolutely would not have made it as far without laios
#they wouldve died. badly.#unfortunately ive lost the link saw it on twitter but i think laios gets knocked unconscious and imagines that it had been him that got ate#and not falin. and falin is the only one to advocate for them going back#but no one wants to go along with her presumably because they dont care for laios that much#(or at least this is laios' perception as this is just his imagination)#but also because she doesnt know as much about monsters and couldnt come up with a good argument for going back in#<- didnt know about prolonged digestion in red dragons and marcille assumed the interval was the same as in humans (1-3 days)#BUT...................... when everyone leaves falin turns back and goes in herself. and laios realises that shes always been that sort#of person and theres no point in ruminating over what could have been.#now. i want to believe that had they known falin would turn back without them. that at the very least shuro would have gone in with her.#theres no way he would have let her go on her own. and frankly i dont think he would have assembled his retainers#to go save laios rip...#marcille would have gone if she had known falin would turn back. and honestly i think she mightve known her well enough to guess this irl#anyways what i was GOING to say was maybe as they venture thru the dungeon shuro gets to learn more about laios thru falins view#maybe they get to know each other more and he opens up more about how he thinks of laios and like. falin is able to explain more about him#diffuse tension and give him a better understanding. like yeah hes still annoyed at him but he has a better view of how laios is#they get close and become better friends but maybe it also helps falin make up her mind and let him down gently............................#and maybe they go and save laios but the dragon thing still happens to him#and its again a 'you felt like that all along??' situation irt him wanting to be a monster but it turns out ok and they (laishuro)#open up to one another in the end.........................#but. again im gonna be real. they would not have made it that far LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO laios the goat for real

Started watching Dungeon Meshi and I'm into it, it's cool, it's fun
HOWEVER It truly feels like there are NO STAKES.
I can accept the fact that there is a curse on the dungeon so that if you die there, resurrection magic can bring you back to life. Like okay cool I guess. There's lore behind it. You do still need a magic user to succeed. Maybe if you die real deep in the dungeon your body will never be recovered and you'll be trapped there forever. Neat.
But the tension, the time crunch of the whole first plot is that they have to save Falin before she is digested, and then we get there, she IS digested, and they're like ah no worries we can just do it anyway.
WHAT
And yes I know, they used dark magic and dragon meat and that is likely going to lead to some drama and some cool weird powers, but it just kinda made the whole "we gotta hurry before she is digested!" Feel like fabricated haste, especially since they do tend to take their sweet time moving through the dungeon anyhow.
But what REALLY annoyed me, was when Laios goes to attack the dragon, and he does this EPIC last ditch effort strategy where he LETS the dragon bite his leg so that he can DANGLE upside down and stap the soft spot from ITS MOUTH and then the dragon reflexively bites down and SEVERES HIS LEG
It was such an epic scene and the expressions on Laios's face were really engaging and the whole thing was just really cool and artfully done
ONLY FOR HIS LEG TO BE SLAPPED BACK ON WITHIN TWO MINUTES LIKE IT WAS NOTHING!? WHAT WAS ALL THAT DRAMA FOR?? YA KNEE YOU WERE GETTING YOUR LEG BACK! THAT'S WO CHEAP! TAKE HIS LEG, LET HIM HAVE ONE LEG!!! LET THE ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES PLEASE NONE OF THIS HEEHEE HAHA LEMME FIX YOU UP RQ LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED WHAT
otherwise it's a pretty bangin show

DUNGEON MESHI CHAPTERS-PER-EPISODE PREDICTIONS
This post is going to have full manga spoilers up to chapter 57, AND also it's going to be long as hell. You are Warned.
This post is being written when 12 episodes are out, covering 28 chapters total. There's 24 episodes in season 1, and they run at a pace of 2 or 3 chapters per episode. I will be keeping that pace for this prediction !!! Though it's 99% likely they'll do something I don't predict that throws this whole list out of wack. It's fine.
There's going to be a couple lists here. One for if they have 2 chapters per episode for the rest of the season, and stop at chapter 52, and one for if they do a few 3 chapter episodes and stop at chapter 55.
Reasons for the chapter endings I've predicted:
52 (Bacon and Eggs) is a good ending point. Laios considers his feelings about Falin, and the group all decide how to save her together! It's the perfect stopping point for a season... but it would also require ALL upcoming episodes to be 2 chapters, which doesn't seem as likely considering the pace they've been going. It's still possible, though, so it's on the list
55 (On the First Level III) is the end of the Canaries coming into the dungeon miniarc, following Kabru instead of Laios. Is it a good ending for the season? Maybe not as much as 52 would be, but I think the pacing lends itself to a really good place to stop for the way things are heading. My prediction (though it's entirely unfounded) is that they'll do the Canaries miniarc and then take 52 and place it at the end. But who knows, honestly?
57 (Stewed Head) is my final but less likely predicted ending--it would require even more 3 chapter episodes, but a final episode focusing on Chilchuck's marriage (and him lying about cheating) and then going onto the Laios meeting Marcille for the first time flashback would be a LOVELY episode to stop on. That being said, I think it would be better as a season 2 opener episode, so... Not sure they'd go this route. I won't be making a full episode-by-episode list for this one, but it IS a route they might go?

(Chapter 52)
With that out of the way, here's the ways the episodes MIGHT pan out:
ENDING AT CHAPTER 52: (2 chapters per episode)
Episode 13: Red Dragon VII and Good Medicine: Falin gets taken by Thistle and the rest of them meet the orcs
Episode 14: Serpent I and II: Kabru time!!! Finally, we'll learn more about Kabru's party in the anime
Episode 15: Dryad and Cockatrice: Two fun, standalone chapters!
Episode 16: Cleaners and Dried with Sweet Sake: Meeting back up with Shuro and Kabru's parties! Ends with chimera Falin appearing for the first time
Episode 17: Harpy and Chimera: Fighting against chimera Falin :( There's no way they'd break these episodes up from each other. Given how they adapted the red dragon chapters they COULD add a third chapter in the action here, but we'll see
Episode 18: Shapeshifter I and II: Shapeshifter chapters are EASILY going together, of course ^^ Ends with Izutsumi appearing
Episode 19: Hag and Nightmare: Izutsumi properly joining chapter and then right into Marcille and Laios's nightmares...
Episode 20: Ice Golem and Barometz: More Izutsumi!!! She's becoming part of the group!!!
Episode 21: Egg and Golden Country: Kabru meets the Canaries for the first time, and then we're RIGHT into the Golden Country miniarc
Episode 22: Griffin and Familiars: Begins with them still in the Golden Country, before being dropped into the lower level with the griffin... Ends with Senshi about to talk about his backstory.
Episode 23: Griffin Soup and Dumplings I: Senshi backstory and then into the race swap chapter. I honestly can't see this actually happening because this would be splitting the Dumplings chapters up weirdly........
Episode 24: Dumplings II and Bacon and Eggs: The rest of the race swap, and then they talk about Falin and what they're going to do! A really good ending, obviously, but it would be difficult to pace it correctly with the chapters right before it being so interconnected, and Dumplings II being completely unrelated.
ENDING AT 55: (very speculative)
Episode 13: Red Dragon VII and Good Medicine: I think this is perfect pacing as it is!
Episode 14-15: Serpent I and II, Dryad, Cockatrice, Cleaners: Not sure exactly how these would be split up into a 3 chapter episode. I can see them adding Dryad to Serpent, just to make sure the main party gets focus that episode, but I could also see Dryad and Cockatrice getting Cleaners as part of it...
Episode 16: Dried with Sweet Sake, Harpy, and Chimera: Because it has a lot of action, it could mix these ones together... maybe? Alternatively, Serpent I, II, and Dryad could be together, and Cockatrice, Cleaners, and Dried with Sweet Sake could be another 3 chapter episode, leaving Harpy and Chimera alone
Episode 17: Shapeshifter I and II: The shapeshifter chapters obviously have to go together.
Episode 18: Hag and Nightmare: Hag could MAYBE be part of the previous episodes here since Shapeshifter II introduces Izutsumi and Hag is her proper joining the party moment, but that leaves Nightmare without a good spot... For now I'll say they're still in the same episode, I guess?
Episode 19: Ice Golem and Barometz: Izutsumi focus episode!
Episode 20: Egg, Golden Country, and Griffin: Egg is partially about Kabru on the surface meeting the Canaries, which of course is largely unrelated to the rest of it, but it ends with them being pulled into the Golden Country... and then the beginning of Griffin has them in the Golden Country too, so it would flow nicely I think!
Episode 21: Familiars and Griffin Soup: Them fighting the griffin AND Senshi backstory in the same episode this way
Episode 22: Dumplings I and II: Keeps the race swap chapters together! As they should be for proper pacing imo
Episode 23: On the First Level I and II: Onto the Canaries invading the dungeon arc, giving us a proper climax and more information for a potential season 2...?
Episode 24: On the First Level III and Bacon and Eggs: Bacon and Eggs is a good stopping point, so like I said above I'm taking it and putting it after the Canaries, to finish out the season, and especially because the two events are unrelated so the timing can be swapped out... But I have no idea if the anime team wants to do something like that, so they probably won't :P But this is my prediction

We want to know your Farcille Half-Foot Incident Ideas please
OK SO THE FARCILLE HALF FOOT INCIDENT THAT LIVES IN MY BRAIN. nobody look at me i'm really tender about my farcille headcanons
Spoilers for like ch22 til 50ish and for anime onlys
SO ROLESWAP WITH FALIN AS THE ONE GOING TO RESCUE LAIOS AFTER HE GETS EATEN BY THE DRAGON. things would be similar to in canon with some differences. Laios getting fuckin bit in half saving falin. Marcille being the one to teleport them all and feeling really guilty for leaving laios behind but she was unable to stomach the idea of losing falin when it was so close to happening… both of them still having chil tag along (chil is now the one pining for his missing touden btw. if you even care).
And meeting Senshi who is a bit more reserved about Falin’s magic but less wary because it’s gnomish and he knew gnomes at least. Falin and Marcille both doing dark magic together to resurrect him. (Um. Falin may have put herself in the dungeon a bit and well you see she might just be a beautiful puppy girl with gender affirming fangs and feathers and. um. the dragon cock) and
She is grappling with taking what she wants and no longer just being understanding and easygoing and protecting everyone else but having to confront seizing her own happiness and her own life and rescuing Laios even if other people don’t like him. i see her as being a fundamentally deeply enmeshed character and growing from that would be her plot arc. Namari would still leave but they might still have Shuro idk. Or maybe Falin would alienate him by saying something abt Laios mattering more and not caring about Shuro or if he loved her if he can’t save Laios then who gives a shit about him. And then he’d leave to get his retainers and prove himself to HER rather than his father I think. Yeah that’s pretty good
And ANYWAYS falin is already a chimera so the changeling shrooms maybe don’t affect her or maybe she just gets like. Um. you know how izutsumi just becomes a different race of beastkin. Don’t look at me. And then Marcille is still a half foot and she gets soooooo overwhelmed. The speculative bio of it all. The undocked long tail. (Chil could share a little lore about them traditionally being docked at adolescence to become an adult to avoid stigma of being considered basically beast men etc [and falin would be like ooooh shit that’s why he’s so weird about eating demihumans huh bcuz some ppl consider half-foots basically as that.] but also that more modern half-foots are eschewing the tradition... He let his kids pick what they wanted to do, and Fler wanted hers docked but Mei and Puck chose to keep them.)
And anyway overwhelmed Marcille just wants Falin to take care of her so Falin carries her away in her big strong chimera tallman arms and keeps brushing her whiskers and well. They simply get so curious about each others’ bodies (no chance to explore really with the pace of the dungeon and staying ahead of Others), that they simply must bang it out. Falin can smell her. Btw. Biting with the fangs. Btwwww
Chil also had an experience of chimera laios treating him oh so gently and staring at him w the same usual dopey laios look before wreaking havoc on everyone else. Btw. And it keeps him up at night. If u even care
