The Number You Have Called Cannot Be Reached - Part 14
Let's just ignore I've updated this story three days in a row, @ailithnight asked me to make them cry, so we're giving the challenge a shot. This was written today and may very well have typos. Also it literally can't go on like this, I have work tomorrow.

Ship: Dead on Main (Danny/Jason)
Fandom: DP x DC Summary:
Danny is just trying to build a portal home, becoming a thief was just an unfortunate side effect of that goal. Now if only this vigilante family would just leave him alone. Especially Red Hood - the semi retired crime lord whose ghost-like presence keeps drawing Danny to him.
Jason had called ahead to let them know he was coming to the cave and then promptly turned off his comms again. He didn’t need to hear their questions. Not on comms. It was bad enough he had to face them.
He drove into the cave, his resolve the only thing keeping him from turning right around. Everyone but Bruce were in their civvies at this point. Jason shouldn’t be so surprised Bruce had called it a night. Not after ghost jumping off a roof in front of them.
Bruce did care, and Jason could tell himself that now without poison dripping into his ear about how it was only to keep his little soldiers at the top of their game. He was too exhausted to appreciate the missing put at the moment, he just wanted to go home and try to forget for a moment that Ghost had left again, but he had to do this.
Dick was sitting with an arm around Tim on the meeting table. Tim looked wrecked - good, he thought grimly and immediately felt guilty. He didn’t even have the pit to blame and yes Jason was angry about what had happened tonight, but really he was just as angry at himself. Jason might have tried to make them understand that Ghost needed help, but he’d done a poor job of it and they didn’t hear his grief for themselves.
They hadn’t felt Ghost’s terror in their electricity trap, his desperate fight to control his panic, they hadn’t felt it as he fell or the shock of pain as he landed. They hadn’t felt the panic reach a fever pitch and then utter silence.
They hadn’t been 50 yards away on another building, running, because they knew something terrible was about to happen. They weren’t the ones who thought they might have already been too late even as they caught him out of the air.
But Ghost had been alive. He’d been breathing. Panicked, but breathing, yet still utter silence.
Jason had been terrified.
And yes he was angry. He should have never let it get so far even in his desperation. They needed to stop chasing him. It wasn’t working.
It had nearly cost him his life.
He was a fucking burglar, not a rogue! He wasn’t a murderer who would kill someone if he wasn’t stopped. They should have never used this level of force. They never would have used this level of force if it wasn’t for Jason and his erratic behavior. It was on Jason, not Tim who was a seventeen year old kid just trying to keep this cursed family together.
Damian was sitting at the meeting table a few seats away from where Tim and Dick were sitting on the table and for him to willingly be that close to Tim without any needle-ing commentary it was practically the equivalent of a hug.
Jason sighed, then pulled off his helmet and left it on the bike. He couldn’t hide behind the safety of its smooth surface, not for this. He walked over to the meeting table, knowing it would draw the rest over there.
Damian took one look at him, with that sharp judgment that was always in his eyes. “You let him get away.”
Jason grit his teeth, refusing to rise to what was just an observation, but it had been a trying night and it was tempting to snap, that he didn’t let him do anything.
“His powers returned,” he said finally, carefully even-toned.
Tim looked up shortly at that and Dick squeezed his shoulder. Normally, Tim would have been on that detail like a hawk. How long did it last? Did the powers return gradually or all at once? Were there other adverse effects? And probably more questions Jason had not even thought to consider because that was just Tim. Now, Tim was silent.
“Jason?” Bruce asked carefully from somewhere to Jason’s left. Jason couldn’t look at him. Last time they’d been this close Jason had almost shot him.
Stephanie and Cass joined Tim and Dick to sit on the table, and Damian allowed Cass’ hand in his hair only because she could kick his ass six ways ’til Sunday. Duke was the last to join their loose circle standing to Jason’s right.
Jason didn’t have any excuses left. He even saw Alfred standing a ways further by the wall. Everyone was here. Babs was definitely still on comms with Bruce, even if the cowl was pulled back.
He tried to take a steadying breath without being too obvious about it. He probably failed, horribly.
“You have to leave Ghost to me.”
“Jay… you’ve not exactly…” Dick said carefully, the only one willing to even go near the fact that Jason should be the last person to go after Ghost. That he had been far from rational about the whole thing. That he was invested, personally more than they could even guess.
“I need-“ Jason looked to the ceiling, breathing for just a moment, before looking down again. “I need you to trust me on this, to let me handle it. What happened tonight… it cannot happen again.”
He clenched his hands, gathered every shred of courage, then looked to Bruce.
“Dad, please…”
He ignored the gasps from his siblings, from shock or outrage that he of all people pulled this card, maybe both, it didn’t matter. Jason only had eyes for Bruce’s stunned face, for the way his jaw tightened and his eyes were moist under pained brows. He only had ears for the way Bruce’s voice broke partway as he said: “Of course, Jaylad.”
“Thank you,” Jason whispered, afraid his voice would fail him if he spoke any louder. He held Bruce’s gaze with his as he said it, because he deserved to know how much that meant to him. The urge to go over to Bruce was strong, to see if his dad would hug him if given the chance - he thought he would, but that, that would be too much, and the pit would be back in a couple of days.
Jason couldn’t handle any more tonight.
He gave Bruce a tight nod and turned to leave, avoiding looking at the reactions of his siblings.
Out the corner of his eyes as he left, he absently noted the purple backpack he’d stolen from Ghost sitting by the evidence board and that metal cylinder, Ghost had left behind the night Jason had met him, sitting on a shelf amongst other knickknacks.
In the back of his mind an idea was taking shape, but he'd only realize that the next day.

I made myself cry writing this, that happens very rarely. Jason has had a really bad day, but it was the father-son feelings that did me in.
I do not know when I will update next time, the chapter this part belongs to is like 2/3rds done now, but it's the middle I need to fill out. Oh well, I'm enjoying the writing bug while it lasts.
a/n: me n my best baby @earth222abi were talking about this on tiktok and I js had to form a post 🧘🏻♀️
warnings: none, headcanons rly
this man can and will come home with random strays at any given moment. dogs, cats, you name it, hes brought it back to his canal boat. including a "hamster" (it was a fucking mouse)
cat distribution system LOVES him. "don' mind these, they jus' a couple o' squatters" and its 4 cats sleeping on his floor, table, bed and worktop living their best lives. if he doesn't see a "regular" as he calls them, on a boring patrol night he'll search for them in usual places because he's so worried.
I think he permanently adopted a stray blue staffy & he just annoys TF outta that poor dawg cuz he loves it. (like this)
can, will & does send you those tiktoks he gets on his fyp with 2 likes of some old tosser on their 2014 android and says "litch me". also sends those tiktoks where its like "you belong to me😈😈" and he fully is just an absolute dickhead with annoying you. (abi damn near killed me for sending those tiktoks)
BUT if you do it back n call this man kitten or sum fucking shit he WILL stare at you sooooo fed up. "only funny when I do it." alr double standards.
carves your initials into his guitar.
fully steals feminine hygiene products for you if you're afab, binders & chest tape if ur ftm, what u want, this man gets. fuck big businesses and that.
loves when you two wander around town at xmas time when theres all those little stalls up.
he pokes ur waist. everytime he sees an opportunity, done. snorts to himself when you yelp.
....he loves a good bubble bath I'm sorry. being spiderman means having achey muscles all the live long day so if you run him a nice bubble bath this man will love you for the rest of his damn life. (even though he would either way.)
on that subject, he too gangly for a shower, the shower doesn't go high enough so he either hunches or uses his webs to put it higher (and that pisses u off if ur shorter) and his knobbly ahh knees poke out the bath sometimes but he too busy in his world to gaf. (you're sat on the toilet watching him and just giggling ur ass off)
he loves sewing. his "nanny" definitely taught him when he was just a lil geezer which is how he has all his patches and badges on his clothes, he put them on himself! only sews in the way his grandmother showed him to honour her, and refuses point blank to do it any other way, even if they're easier/sturdier. trust in great mrs brown.
loves picking you literal weeds out the ground with some daisies and presenting them like they're a 10/10 bouquet with a FAT lopsided grin on his face.
if you yawn infront of him I feel like sometimes he'll just blow air into your mouth briefly before carrying on with his business. idk. he's just got such annoying older brother energy and I feel like that's js what he'd do.
i didn’t notice it until this chapter literally began with ‘Nona jolted awake’, but the John chapters seem to take place after Nona’s been sleeping. it was stated in one of them that it was a dream after all, are they Nona’s dreams?
poor Nona, everyone is keeping an awful lot of information from her
okay Nona is being wayyy too nonchalant about being shot, quite frankly
ahh so at least some of the smoke is coming from the city burning bodies & bones, smart move if they don't want necromancers to use them against them
once again Nona is ridiculously physically resilient, surviving multiple jellyfish stings that would kill someone else. she’s obviously some kind of Lyctor, but i’m just trying to think about literally any and all possible situations here no matter how bizarre. uhhh newest theory is Nona some kind of lyctorhood fusion of Harrow & Alecto that also has amnesia i guess
once again salt water is significant, and both it and the beach are very important to Nona. still trying to consider how exactly the theme of Nona liking beaches is related to the beach in the dream sequences, i feel like they have to be related somehow
oh shit things are going down. its very unclear who exactly these people are … the general police, some kind of connection to the Blood of Eden? i’m guessing they’re aware of Camilla’s connection to necromancy? or who knows, maybe they’re just assholes
okay Camilla and Palamedes are literally combined, sharing Cam’s body at the same time. did not know that was a thing they could do apparently. they seem to be working pretty well in tandem, but there’s definitely a very strange and unsettling vibe, like Nona describes how its kinda like they have a ‘new person’s smile’
oh wow Camilla is fucked up from that whole experience, this poor gal keeps getting injured
and its not just the emotional toll, Camilla hosting Palamedes is essentially slowly killing her. the situation is way worse than i first thought
'Here’s to Camilla Hect, another one of devotion’s casualties’ yeah i imagine Pyrrha has opinions on that matter, given she was a cavalier that literally died for her necromancer to become a Lyctor
'he was always looking for things to throw himself on’ this has nothing to do with the situation at hand, it’s just got me crying about og!Gideon and her devotion to Harrow again. also an interesting parallel between G1deon & Gid, even though he didn’t end up actually being her dad
ALRIGHT so this was referring to a day or so ago where i cackled maniacally about a headcanon. Cause I was talking about Lunar and Eclipse parallels and like- i love them. Theyre so funky silly. Complicated we love to see it.
So, i may use this somewhere-
We know Lunar got his Star Power from space. Which is a very weak story plot point to be honest. It doesnt sell it for me and why I didn't take to the whole 'Lunar is part star now because... space' BECAUSE ITS BORING.
NOW
Now with that in mind. Think back to when he died, when he died, how he died. Who killed him.
Eclipse. With the Star in HAND. in his POSSESSION. Bro's figuring that out and his almost immediate action is to find Lunar.
He blows up Lunar with his star, BUT NOT ENTIRELY. We still have the nanomachines here that Monty picks up.
Now here's the fun part. Due to literally how the star is... rather weird with how it will 'bond' or like be used. Remember the one universe GlamFreddy had it and accidentally wished everyone away and couldn't bring them back, couldn't figure that out.
Part of that WHOLE thing with blowing up Lunar (that we do find out Eclipse while acting out about the betrayal but genuinely did care for Lunar despite being rather terrible at it.), part of that star power would've latched onto Lunar. Either out of Eclipses subconcious or just straight up he JUST got this Star its not gonna act the way he'd want really.
Like legit, it would've made more coherent sense and more parallel and Eclipse literally fueling the nonsense YET AGAIN. Unknowingly.
Which makes it funnier for Eclipse going off about 'YOU GOTTA KILL LUNAR' prophecy. Self fulfilling prophecy he headstarted himself. Which I don't think he had KNOWN why yet. Just that Lunar would bring terrible things (the astrals). PLUS the fact would give the astrals like 'What the FUCK are you???' more of a credence rather than 'eh u were born in the stars enjoy'.
Anyway TLDR; Eclipse using the Star to blow up Lunar, gave Lunar the star power.
yoshida and karamatsu being quite literally self made men, putting their all into their image, even if kara's work ethic is practically nonexistant compared to yoshida's (or simply unapplied since he's a neet lol), is super interesting! karamatsu must see yoshida and feel a great admiration and slight envy towards him, and yoshida might wonder how someone like kara is even alive, let alone happy with who he is, but also maybe, on some more subconscious level, jealous that he's satisfied with so little, in yo's opinion... much to think about🧐
IM GONNA KILL MYSELF YOU GET IT WAHHHHHHH😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I really love whatever this type or writing or characterization is called (idk man I just draw pictures) I love complicated relationships
I went a little overboard um enjoy yoshikara relationship breakdown
Karamatsu idolizes yoshida and views him as the perfect guy and wants to become him. He kind of stalks him to try and gauge what he does so he can take that and apply it to himself without knowing the amount of effort yoshida put into himself to be who he is today. karamatsu wants a cheat code lol. At some point he actually makes contact with him and tries to befriend him (for his own selfish motives of course hes still a selfish pos like his brothers lol).
Yoshida on the other hand couldn't give two flying shits about karamatsu after he finds out hes a neet. He's not a hateful person but he cannot stand people who don't put any effort into being better (for reasons stated in the last ask). If it were anyone else yoshida would be happy to keep them company and get to know them but because karamatsu has accomplished nothing in his life yoshida is quick to turn cold towards him: ignoring him like everyone else.
Their whole story is still a wip but after a while something happens and yoshida grows softer to karamatsu and they officially become acquaintances instead of harasser and victim lol. Karamatsu's feelings of admiration and envy transform into this all encompassing infatuation. He can't tell if he wants to be him or be with him lol (he wants him carnally) Yoshida can tell but doesn't really say anything or let it ruin the quiet relationship they have going on. He does care about him but in a more pitiful understanding way. Unrequited love is awesome and I think it should be explored more cuz feelings and emotions are complicated and interesting.
Their acquaintanceship is quiet. Whether it be a late night smoke on the bridge or getting a quick meal at chibita's, their relationship is a mix of awkward and distant but peaceful. Karamatsu is just happy he has someone to spend some of his time with. Yoshida's life wouldn't be affected if karamatsu was in or out of it so he doesn't really care. Its a very once sided relationship emotionally
wow consider this the kind of official yoshikara post
something else i find kind of funny about the kakashi flashback part 2 in the anime is that it like completely blows up the foundation of the entire "is kakashi a good teacher" question and renders it basically entirely worthless as a talking point. not that it wasnt before, but still. like given the situation he was in he honestly went completely above and beyond all expectations in how okay it worked out like. okay. if you took some guy whos only parent killed himself when he was 4 or 5 years old, became a chunin at the age of 6, dumped into active warfare and promoted to jonin at 12, had all three of his other teammates die within a year or two (all of whom he blames himself for in varying capacity), then put him in the secret service for assassins for a decade, and without warning pulled him out and said "hey so how about you become a genin teacher" IN WHAT WORLD WOULD THIS EVER GO WELL.?
literally all of the positive adult figures who were actively present in his life died by the time he was thirteen. he was not given the luxury of a childhood in any sense at all and any of the children he has interacted with have been in the secret service for assassins. not to even mention that sasuke and naruto come with an insane amount of baggage on their own, NOT TO EVEN MENTION THAT THEY COME WITH AN INSANE AMOUNT OF BAGGAGE FOR KAKASHI SPECIFICALLY.?!
like as a solid rule you basically never want to be in a class where the teacher is teaching it for the first time because chances are your teacher isnt going to have the faintest clue what he's doing, and this is like with your average college class. god forbid whatever in the world is going on with konoha where they just pick whoever in the world they want to be jonin teachers regardless of qualifications or aptitude or current mental state. like in a vacuum if you look at kakashis teaching methods without any context at all he's certainly far from perfect, but like comparing him to literally any of the other jonin teachers is actually a joke because his life experiences are so vastly different from them that it makes absolutely no sense in any capacity whatsoever. YOU GUYS ARE STUPID ? Why is this even a discussion people think is worth arguing over.
like im certain so many people hate him in part for the scene where hes arguing for team 7 to be allowed to participate in the chunin exams and understandably iruka is like "tjheyre literally twelve what are you talking about" and kakashi responds that he made it to chunin by 6 and that they're soldiers under his command so it really doesnt matter what iruka thinks. its kind of a lot when you're watching for the first time because you have absolutely no context for where kakashi is coming from on this front and of COURSE he's wrong and of COURSE iruka is correct but iruka and kakashi have had a very very VERY different life and are not coming at this discussion from the same ground even a little bit.
of course kakashi thinks this is perfectly fine this is LEAGUES better than what his childhood was like and he thinks they're good enough to pass it so why would he hold them back when he knows what theyre capable of. again of course hes wrong of course this is a horrible thing to do but he has literally no reason to believe that because hes literally been completely indoctrinated in the konoha war machine basically since birth with no actual opportunity to look at it from any sort of outsider or objective perspective. no of course kakashi isnt worlds greatest teacher. why in the world should he be
consider sanuso bodyswap where Sanji is of course "admiring" Usopp's body and Usopp is trying desperately to keep himself from getting worked up so that he doesn't light himself on fire.
Luffy and Chopper are not helping. They are in fact doing the opposite of helping. They've ramped up their pranks and are doing anything possible to get Usopp angry so that he combusts, freaks out, and then dives into the ocean to put himself out. They think it's hilarious.
Nami and Brook are Also not helping, since they're conspiring with Sanji to put on a fashion show with Usopp's body. Sanji called it "not wasting a precious opportunity to get him in something other than overalls". Usopp called it mutiny and he was gonna- dive into the ocean, holy fuck Sanji why is it so easy to catch fire?!
Best part about this is that Sanji assured him, several times, that his body doesn't get hurt by catching fire. Usopp still jumps into the ocean every time.
Robin pipes up at one point, asking if Sanji was immune to just his own flames or all flames. Sanji just kind of shrugs and said it depends. Franky, having just been leisurely watching all of this gets an idea. Would his Franky Fireball hurt Sanji's body or just give him more fire to work with?
He tries to coax Usopp into agreeing to test it out and, somehow, he manages it. Albeit, Usopp is all knocking knees and chattering teeth, a very odd sight from 'Sanji'. As part of the deal though, he can only shoot a fireball the size of his hand.
Usopp meant his small hand. The one Franky used for tinkering and fine detail work. He did not, however, clarify this.
So, when a fireball the size of Franky's big hand comes out, well. Usopp runs for his goddamn life.
It takes him a few moments- and the voices of his friends sounding distant and below him- to realize he hadn't, in fact, run to the men's quarters, but rather into the fucking sky.
And oooooh, boy he is gonna kill Sanji one of these days. Why was his body's first fucking instinct when running to go up, what the actual HELL-
Usopp lit himself on fire again.
He curses out Sanji as his Sky Walk fails in the same moment and he plummets towards the deck.
the shiori ED in owarimonogatari ge kills me, but theres a very specific part of it that really gets my attention
right before the first verse there's a little flash in this box that shows an object relating to the arc character
its interesting to see the items for each of them. mayoi's bag is there, and the first thing you notice is that she's not. her bag feels almost synonymous with her, so it almost gives the impression she's left it behind, possibly for a new stage in her life (as it were). hitagi's apartment building is shown, and what i think might be araragi's house next to it. but they're so small that they look like models more than anything, which i feel relates to how these homes are things that are precious to her, they are things she wants to protect. maybe theres something to be said about the home as it relates to family too, and family being very much a big thing to her arc. and maybe theres something to be said about mayoi's thing being "something to protect" too
whats the object in ougi dark, then?
oh. hi ougi
guys im so not normal about this. putting ougi in the same room where the other two had objects that were important/synonymous with them. its because ougi darks ED is for ougi BUT its also for araragi (and shinobu, its about all 3 of them), so its araragis "thing to protect/that is important to/synonymous with him."
but also like. this is also like the only time in the show that we see ougi in any state even approaching nudity, and not just that, ougi is actually naked here (except for the sleeves). and that coupled with the kind of huddled pose really makes this feel like a very vulnerable moment, and a very very significant thing. its saying many things at once. it's saying conception, it's showing you the big bad but not so big and not so bad, its showing you the weakness in a character who has rarely shown anything like vulnerability or weakness, who is still haunting araragi (see the sleeves and the like "gonna get you" hands lol) to the bitter end.
and like if you look closely you can see a little smile which is standard for ougi but like. the hollowed eyes (more ghastly now when theyre white). the inward hunch. the lack of clothes besides the sleeves, that are stylized to look jagged like claws. this is a creature born with a purpose, a creature born to hurt. but this is also obviously a creature who is alone and feeble and Should Be Helped Not Killed for fucks sake lol.
and not just a creature but a person! ougi is armored in layers of separating clothes all the time but this shot is kind of groundbreaking bc it showing that like. she is really just like anyone else. the fronting is very much a front. she, the fake, has Substance. there's a very real person underneath those big sleeves.
and also since the shot is really only for half a second, ougi fades away very quickly. its very much a blink and youll miss it. but that fading away really feels like a flash of vulnerability before she fades away Forever. as in, it's a parallel to her almost final moments. but the fading away in particular feels ghost-ish. not to mention later in the ED shes even wearing like a ghost outfit.
and. god. if that isn't just.
idk. something about. being alive but not really. being a ghost. not long for this world and resigned to it. being so resigned to it you wear it and use that to represent yourself. making it a part of you. and then later being given a life. becoming able to live. idk yk. idk its just , yk its just ,
You know reading vol 5 of mdzs before all the rest (don't ask me why I'm a clown and there were Circumstances) has to be the craziest experience of my life. Because it took all of ten minutes of wwx talking to literally hit me so hard in the gut I had to sit down and listen to really loud music for a while to calm down.
Who needs therapy when mxtx is alive and writing, I guess????? 🤡
Can't wait to get to the actual tragic parts I just know I'm gonna be that "help" frog phone meme
more monkey thoughts. Dont look at me im just trying to explain/figure out More reasons why they (moreso LEMH) make me go crazy (again)
OKAY Full disclosure. this was spurred by some posts ive seen floating around and they are Objectively correct and i agree with them, but the wordage they use is what bothers me and makes me think--its about the general and growing frustration and dismay over LEMH's portrayal and like... increased Importance in LMK, at the expense of like, literally all the other characters new and old.
Again, objectively that is INCREDIBLY true and i feel it 200%!!!! Its frustrating because they just yoinked aspects of SWK's relationships with characters like DBK from the original JTTW and Shoved them on LEMH like theyre Tropes that can be shifted around without consequence--it seems fine and interesting when you first watch LMK with no context or background knowledge, but after knowing what his ACTUAL deal was in the book, looking back on LMK makes what they are doing with LEMH feel lazy and Genuinely poorly researched, rather than an intentional divergence from the original story--because as a general rule of thumb, even if the fans dont Like what you changed, you still want the things in your story to be done On Purpose, like you at least Tried to put effort into it! Its about showing the audience that you think they deserve a narrative that was crafted with Care, not just slapped together and thrown out for a quick Hype/Cash grab, yk???
Anyway So THATS the thing, and thats all cool!!! My issue (and i cannot stress this enough this is Me being Silly and Obsessed with the Six Eared Macaque im a chronic blorbo haver there is no Cure) is that those posts Also tend to talk about LEMH as though... he is a boring character. As though he's just kind of "eh". Or at least thats how my Admittedly biased eyes read them--no beef! Its just gotten me to thinking and now i want to try to write out What im thinking and Why, bc thats a helpful thing to do when you're struggling to figure in your head, obvs obvs
And im of course willing to admit that Yes, in the original text, he is just kind of There! He serves his purpose (aiding in SWK's character development) and then he dies and he doesn't come back again! Hes kind of a metaphor but hes also just an annoying guy! Hes not presented as anything special! I get that that is what is Canon, and thats theres no way to really like... read anything deep into it. Bc theres literally nothing there.
But my problem is that i cannot let characters like that just Be. Especially if the premise of said character could be absolutely FASCINATING if you take it all Completely seriously and At face value--if you try to see whatever is going on for them through their eyes, their minds. Its like.... You can buy a shirt from the store as is, and some might be fine Wearing it as is--while other's might see that shirt and decide it needs a bit of hemming and perhaps some embroidery on the sleeves. Altering it does not change the fact that the original design is what it is--thats just One altered shirt that one person is wearing and perhaps lending to a friend or two, yk???
I love metaphors l. Sorry that dragged on, back to monkey--
To me? LEMH exists in a nebulous state of inevitable connection with SWK--because i like to take the "LEMH is SWK's ~dark side~" thing seriously. In my eyes, they are literally the same person, the same qi, split into two bodies.
There are stories that exist today that explore this idea, characters with this kind of relationship--and i find them incredibly compelling! Because i adore stories that play with the question of what makes a person a person. What seperates you from your maker/origins? What is your purpose in life when you are intrinsically connected to another person, at your very core? Does that mean you exist For them? Do they exist for you? How does thinking that way affect a person, mentally and emotionally? How does it affect these characters, specifically, in conjunction with their personalities and the lives theyd led up until the point they knew about this connection? Have they always known about this connection? Only one of them?
How much more drastic would it affect you if you were essentially a nobody--and the person you are connected to is a public figure? Like Sun Wukong?
Id go crazy. Id go fucking insane? Can you imagine. Its about the potential!!!!! The potential of what knowing something like that would do to someone!!! Im losing the words im apologize i need to calm down--im Not done yet.
What i am getting at here.... is that LEMH would likely work Best as a character who's metaphorical aspects are taken Very Literally--especially so if the story also decides to lean into the idea of his hearing reaching through to the past and future, in any way. He is a character that would thrive on being portrayed in a way that allows him to be a bit Meta, if that makes sense
Yes, you Could just let him be a silly monkey who decided to start shit with SWK for giggles one day--that can absolutely have its merits! But that does not satisfy me, and that is why i am so passionate about him. I want to take my little guy so so fucking seriously because i think it would be SO fucking cool. And a very useful and convenient way to explore ideas about relationships with The Self--since in my eyes, that is what his relationship would be with SWK.
AND ALL THIS STUFF ABSOLUTELY HAS ANOTHER SIDE TO IT, HOW IT ALL COULD AFFECT SWK ON HIS SIDE??? LIKE HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT i dont know if i want this post to be That long so i might stop here and come back later to talk abt it from SWKs side in a rb or something--
anyway point is. I thank LMK for introducing me to the Six Eared Macaque, but upon further analysis the way they did him is actually pretty garbo, and im biding my time for till someone introduces me to or Makes a version of him that takes him to his full potential. thats all thanks for coming to my TED talk, get out of my house please
my mom got very very drunk yesterday and she's an aggressive drunk, not physically but it amplifies her anger and irritation by like 6, and she's already a very very explosive and volatile woman. she got in a fight with her boyfriend and was screaming and drove off to the middle of nowhere and that's why my sister called and im so proud of her for reaching out and asking me to call, and i think she is too, she said she wants to call me more for sure and wants to ask more, and that she felt a lot better after we called. that feels good for me, even if im worrying about it now, at her age i didn't have anyone to turn to or call, so im glad i get to be that for her. i fucking hate my parents man
the way kidous dad talks about haruna at the beginning is so. “oh player-kun u probably didnt know that right. but yuuto here has a sister! they just live apart from each other for various reasons teehee” GIRL YOURE THE ONE WHO ONLY ADOPTED KIDOU CUZ YOU ONLY WANTED AN HEIR AND NOT NECESSARILY A KID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “for reasons” YOU ARE THE REASON
ALSO it drives me insane when people get all 🥺 over jc in the fairy scene because 'hes mad wwx didn't come home' because that may be true but lets look at the bigger picture of jc breaking cups and being physically violent and yelling at wwx and blaming him for the deaths of ppl wwx really loved as wwx is clearly terrified and trying to stand up for himself but jc is about to trigger him with something jc knows is his deepest fear. hello??? read the room maybe???
Pixar did not have to go as hard as they did with the Kronos Unveiled scene in The Incredibles (2004), yet they did anyway and gave us one of the best scenes in modern cinema. Literally cannot stop thinking about how good this scene is, from the animation to the build up to the soundtrack.
I don’t think I truly understood how dark this scene - and this film - was a child: Syndrome is systematically and strategically luring in superheroes and killing them off in order to test and improve his Omnidroid design… these people were not only supers but they also had family and loved ones too, just like Bob, and one day they would have just disappeared because chances are they weren’t telling people where they were going because it was "top secret" and against the law. They thought they were doing something good, like helping the people in the island, while also getting to relive their glory days, perhaps even paving the way for superheroes to make a proper comeback… only for Syndrome to kill them in cold blood.
Most of these people can actually be seen at Bob and Helen’s wedding in the beginning of the film - they weren’t just random supers, they were their friends, people they worked alongside and cared about. It’s even worse when you realise that Bob probably blames himself because, after all, Buddy/Syndrome was his biggest fan and he dismissed him by not letting him help.
The relief on Bob’s face when he realises Syndrome doesn’t know where Helen is - meaning he also doesn’t know where their children are because he didn’t realise they were married at this point - is so realistic and gut wrenching to see. The relief contrasting with the anguish of knowing how much danger they and their entire family could have been in the entire time without even knowing...it's so well-done, you can literally feel it.
It’s also worth noting that originally the next target wasn’t Mr Incredible but Frozone - that was who Mirage was trailing, hence why his location is “known”. Imagine if she/Syndrome hadn’t realised that Mr Incredible was with him and they’d lured Frozone in instead as planned; he would have gone to the island to fight the Omnidroid 8 in a volcano setting. We saw how being in the burning building dehydrated Frozone and made it impossible to use his ice powers - presumably it would have been the same in the middle of a lava filled volcano, and he’d have been slaughtered just like the other superheroes before him.
This scene shows an entire generation of superheroes - Bob, Helen and Lucius’ generation - wiped out all because Syndrome felt slighted by his hero as a child, because he internalised that slight and let it drive him to revenge. And, if we take into account the deleted alternate opening scene, it’s mentioned that superheroes "aren't supposed to breed” - meaning there’s a likelihood that Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack are among the very few supers of the next generation. I know that it's deleted and so not really canon, but it's definitely a concept to consider, I think.
Then there's the fact Syndrome named the project "Kronos" - Kronos was a God who overthrew his own father in order to take over his rule, and then he ate his own children to prevent them doing the same thing to him. It feels like it reflects Syndrome once looking up to Mr Incredible and even saying "I could be your ward!", meaning Mr Incredible adopting or fostering him - the project name is a metaphor for Syndrome destroying the Supers, especially Mr Incredible, who he viewed as a father figure. The Omnidroids he built killed two birds with one stone: not only was he able to acquire the data to upgrade the robot to its final design, but it also eliminated the real super heroes and so left him as the last remaining "superhero", even though his powers are man-made, not something he was born with.
Not only did he want to become the only remaining superhero by killing the real ones in revenge, he also planned to sell his inventions at some point so everyone can be super - because "when everyone is super, nobody is". It's like a final blow to the memory of the superheroes he had killed.
I've talked too much about this scene but God... I love it so much more as an adult because it's just so chilling to think about. I'm sure other people can put it much more articulately than I just tried to, but I just really wanted to appreciate this scene.
