Atem is kinda shy when you both first start dating
Cut the man some slack, he hasn't dated in about 3,000-5,000 years (depending on the dub or sub)
He doesn't particularly like PDA, and doesn't see a need to announce your relationship to his friends. He thinks they should "just know."
Obviously they don't, so Tea still hits on him and you get angry about it. Atem never notices when Tea hits on him and only knows about it when you point it out
He's quick to tell his friends about your relationship then. Joey teasingly asks him to prove it, and he wastes no time kissing you on the lips despite not liking PDA
It takes him a couple months to start getting comfortable with the relationship, and slowly gets more comfortable with PDA
He'll only go so far as hand holding and putting his arm around you, but it is progress
Behind closed doors though, I'd like to think he's a little clingy. If you need to go in another room for something he won't follow, he'll just wait for you. But he'll always want to cuddle or be touching you in some way
He prefers kisses on the cheek instead of the lips
He'd take you on such cute dates. He'd get the ideas either from Yugi, Bakura or social media (Joey and Tristian aren't exactly cute, and he wouldn't ask Tea about this)
He'd take you on picnic dates, take you to local events, he'll win you prizes at Kaiba Corp and go on any rides you want to go on and end the day with a kiss on the ferris wheel.
When you cuddle, he likes being the big spoon. He'll rub your back, scratch your back, whatever you want
He loves watching Tik Tok or Instagram reels or Youtube with you on your phone while you spoon. He'll periodically give you cheek kisses
I feel like Atem would be the first one to say "I love you" and he says it after every goodbye, every goodnight, every good morning, and every hello
If you two are away from each other, he always starts the conversation with a "how are you? how was your day?" text
His first priority is you. He loves you and he wants to make sure you're okay
He's also pretty chill with anything. If you're sick and look terrible, he's still going to want to be intimate. When you ask why, he'll kiss your cheek and give you a poetic sentence about loving you at your worst. Makes you tear up
Atem is also really good at listening to you and comforting you when something is wrong. He wishes he could duel all your problems away :(

I'm still totally normal about "Leather and Linen," so I thought I'd ask if you have any headcanons about Yugi as a kid. What was he like growing up? Did he make friends in school? If not, was it for the same reason as in canon (especially since Yami wasn't there), or because he knew something was waiting for him? Was he doodling birds and ankhs in the margins of his class notebooks and assuming it was just because of his grandpa's adventures? Did he know what he wanted to be when he grew up?
We can be totally normal about Leather and Linen together 🤝🤝
I have many headcanons about younger Yugi! A lot of which I never had a place in the main story or the extra ones I have written, but I have thought about Yugi a lot.
(Also I accidentally spiraled with this so please enjoy my small rant about Yugi lol)
Tumblr media
Because I wanted Jou, Honda, and Anzu to be older than Yugi in this setting and to help establish the fact they had been working within ‘The Tower’ for a longer period of time they were absent from any of his schooling life.
Instead Yugi began much like canon Yugi began  as the quiet shy nerd playing games with himself, doodling video game characters in the margins of his book. Ryou joined the class as an exchange student, and the duo hit it off. Bonding over their similar vibes and that’s how they spent most of their high school years.
When university came around the duo did part ways in a sense. Still keeping in contact just not as often as they pursued their own goals, and then Ryou drops off the radar and Yugi can’t get in contact with him, no one seems to know where he is. His search for Ryou kinda falls down his list of priorities when Grandpa passes away and he ended up dropping out of university to deal with the everything going on emotionally.
He goes job hunting instead, not really sure if he wants to try and tackle university again just yet and when a dream job at a gaming company comes his way he can’t not go for it. But like Ryou the job offering was a front for The Tower to get their hands on their desired individual to shove them in the Animus and practically break their brains to get information about the Apple of Eden.
Because he was in a different city at the time, his Mother didn’t know he had gone missing (and since his phone was taken too there was fake texts sent too to keep his location hidden)
A little more on the technical soul stuff below the cut:
Up until being thrown in the Animus (and finding Ryou again in the communal hall of The Tower) Yugi had no obvious indications he held the still wandering soul of Heba. Which made it easier for him initially to separate himself from Heba.
Excluding Yugi, all of the descendents are only descendents. The Animus taps into their genetic memory and plays them like an old video tape over and over until the film breaks down.
Yugi however, is a little different. While it is correct to call Yugi Heba’s descendent, Yugi is also Heba. When Heba finally went to the afterlife to be with Atem (and Mahad) he felt like he could not truly be at peace because he did not destroy the Apple of Eden. After much begging Atem did finally let him go, using his power as Osiris to reincarnate Heba who spends the next 3000 years wandering/waiting until he is reborn as Yugi.
Yugi holds Heba’s soul yes, but the life in which Yugi is brought up in with his Grandpa and Mother shape the person he became.
The Animus ‘reawakens’ his memories so to speak and a part of him knows he’s suffering more than he should be with reliving Heba’s memories. His biggest struggle is being torn between feeling like Heba is him, while wanting to hold onto and believe he is still Yugi. Why Heba’s ‘ghost’ brings him comfort is because he can visualize that ‘nagging at the back of his head’ and see Heba as an entity separate from himself.
It takes him a very long time to come to terms with his sense of self even after the Apple is destroyed. He’s still struggling but making progress with that in the afterlife just as Atem and Mahad are coming to terms with their Heba not being the same Heba they remembered. But that doesn’t stop them all from trying and working towards their deserved peace and happiness within their polycule in the afterlife <3

51 & 52 !
Oh yaaay!! Thank you for the ask ^^
51. Share a scene of healing (it doesn't have to be magical or literal~)
I won't lie, I'm struggling hard to find a scene like this in my drafts. I guess that goes to show how much angst/smut I write :,) A very, very true sign that I need to write some more fluffy stuff... Let's try to do that now, shall we? (I'll be continuing from my Separation fic!)
Yugi and Atem had been sitting on the couch for what felt like hours. They barely managed to eat dinner and then wound up there accidentally. Their hands were intertwined tightly between them; they were too afraid to let the other go. They were afraid of being separated again.
"...I'm sorry for yelling at you," Yugi whispered.
Atem's grasp on Yugi's hand tightened and he murmured, "I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have screamed at you. I just wish that I was better at this—all of this. I'm sorry that I'm bad at it."
"That's not something you should be apologizing for. I never thought about how difficult this might be for you. You're not used to being alive and I completely forgot about that," Yugi turned to face Atem, smiling gently when their gazes met. "I should've been supporting you more instead of assuming that you knew what to do."
"But, I'm not a child," Atem reminded him as he took Yugi's other hand, stroking his thumb over his knuckles. "I don't want to be treated like I'm a child or a baby. Please don't make me feel stupid and dumb again. I—" Atem hesitated, then swallowed thickly and mumbled, "I can't handle that again."
"I know. I don't want you to feel like a kid and I'm so sorry that I made you feel so bad," Yugi muttered and leaned forward until their foreheads bumped together. "I'll do better, I promise. I'm going to do what I said I'd do when you came back to us: I'm going to take care of you the way you deserve to be taken care of."
Atem's eyes welled up with tears and he wound his arms around Yugi's torso, yanking him close and echoed him, "Will you let me take care of you, too? The way you deserve to be taken care of?"
"...After I help you learn to be independent. My priority is making sure you're taken care of and that you're capable of standing on your own—the same way that you showed me to duel without your help. I want to return the favor."
Atem laughed softly, "This is honestly a constant trend of us returning favors to one another."
Yugi shrugged with a playful grin, "That'll just be what works for us."
52. Share a scene at night!
For some context, this is a scenario that takes place during the Millennium World Arc where Yugi and the gang have actual bodies and get taken to the palace, where Yami is. :)
One night, when everyone had gone to sleep, he chose to leave. He wrapped his cloak tightly around him and snuck out without any of the guards noticing. He breathed a sigh of relief when he made it out successfully, taking one of the horses from the stables. He failed to realize that he wasn't alone.
"Pharaoh?"
He jumped at the sudden voice and whipped around, relaxing when he saw Yugi standing by the stable doors. His arms were crossed and his face was marred with worry; his brows furrowed and lips turned downward.
With a hand pressed to his chest to soothe his pounding heart, he whisper-shouted, "You scared me!"
"And you shouldn't be out here. What're you doing?"
"Why is it your business? You're not meant to be out here, either. You should be in your room and sleeping.
"So should you," Yugi glared at him. "We can sit here and argue for as long as you want, but I'm only keeping you from whatever it is you're doing."
Yami peered over at his horse, then released her reins and hugged himself, "I need to leave and explore the area. We'll never be able to get out of here if I don't further history. Bakura has to be somewhere in this world and I have to find him. I have reason to believe that he's the final enemy I'm meant to face before we're returned to our—your home."
"You shouldn't be going alone, then. Let me come with you."
"Absolutely not. You're staying here where you'll be safe. Go back inside."
(If anyone wants to send an ask: Questions)

"But you did. Whether you wanted to or not, the fact doesn't change." This was a lesson he learned quite recently.
"You. Hurt. Aibou."
Was this the same mirror who mocked Atem? The same mirror who called him a coward?
"When Yuugi got injured, do you know what I did? I went to him, I helped him. I didn't want to enact revenge because my priority was on him! And what do you do? The complete fucking opposite! And who paid the price?! Huh?! Who paid the price because you couldn't control yourself?!" His voice was getting a bit shaky, the weight of his own words seem to be... affecting him as well?
This was... odd. Letting out anger at someone who looked just like him. Huh. It was almost as if... he was yelling at himself. Is that why his hands were shaking and his face started to feel red and flushed. And... why was his vision clouding a bit?
"How many times... must Aibou suffer for your mistakes..." A quiver? "...before enough is enough?"
@sennenpharaoh
@sennenpharaoh
Those words cut and they cut deep. He... Couldn't get this right, could he? What did anyone even see in him? They said they saw good... An all too familiar cold numbness entered his mind and heart. The shards of glass were nothing in comparison to the pain of hurting Yugi.
Tainted. Dark. Monstrous. What good was there?
Tumblr media
Wait... Yami looked up after what seemed like an eternity. This... This really wasn't about just him. Though of course, Yami didn't say anything about it. No more. He let his wildfire of emotions be out of control for too long. He needed to get a grip and grow up... Yami forced himself to stand. Wincing in pain. The scars from this night would serve as a reminder.
"I'll fix it. I'll do better. No more of this. I promise. I won't... Let this happen again. Never... Again. Never... I promise..."

Whats yami's favorite thing about the modern world so far? Whats Tk's? And on a scale of 1-10 how badly does kaiba need a nap?
Yami has really only been "Present" for like, a collective 40 hours and a continuous 16 in the fic by now, but the first time Yugi goes into a grocery store after he's more or less fully awake, he badgers Yugi into getting like, 26lbs of different kinds of fruit because he's never even SEEN most of these- 3,000 to 5,000 years ago, most fruit was pretty aggressively region-locked, only transportable as tough, dry raisin things, or straight-up hadn't been invented yet, so about 90% of the produce section was Brand New to him. Solomon was about to be mad, but then he actually ate all of it, and he decided that if at least one of them was getting fiber and vitamins into Yugi, he could deal with it.
Tristan has been quietly taking Yami around to Modern (TM) things and filming his reactions on his phone. The "Jamba Juice Adventure" is 20 parts long and hilarious, touching, and just a little bit terrifying.
TK on the other hand, has been more-or-less cognizant for about 70% of the last few millenia and subjects Bakura to some of the most bizzare "When I Was Your Age" lectures about "Do you know how great it is that Smallpox was erradicated?" and "Indoor plumbing is amazing!" And "You barely ever see horse carcasses in the road anymore!" and "I cannot stress the smallpox thing enough" and so on. But if he had to pic one specific invention since his last fully cognizant period in the 1500's, he LOVES vending machines.
But uh, not for thier intended purpose.
Ok, he loves them for thier intended purpose too- he lives in Los Osaka, WORLD CAPITOL of vending machines. They have vending machines for everything- drinks, snacks, books, air quality masks etc. but more exotic things too like Caviar, Gold Bullion, Neckties, Hair Extensions, Champagne, Lingerie, Umbrellas, Pornography and even Raw Meat! What a magnificent future Bakura lives in!
But even more than that, Vending Machines present an opportunity for some truly exquisite crime- fast and easy while also being difficult to be caught at and targeting the people in society he hates the most without bothering his comrades. A Vending Machine is, essentially, a repository of cash that requires really only two available-for-purchase-online tools to open and retrive the money and any wares you might want. Since vending machines are really only serviced once a month or so, and they're not considered a high priority for the police they're pretty much unguarded, if TK wants some cash or a juice, all he has to do is pop on a workman's uniform, grab the two keys, and walk a couple blocks to some machines, make sure the maintainence guy isn't there, and help himself. There are SO MANY vending machines in Los Osaka that all he has to do to not get caught is just take the bus to a new part of town.
Anyway, that's how the rent has been paid for the last few months, so maybe Bakura can quit looking at him like a sad puppy huh?
Seto Kaiba needs a nap to the degree that hunting him down with a tranquilizer gun like a pith-helmeted big game hunter after a lion is both ethical and also maybe the only way to get him to actually take one.

Imagine DM-era Rivalshipping with Kaiba checking Domino's security cams to get a glimpse of "the other Yugi" and "observe" him but Yami truly very rarely takes over in Yugi's daily lives so Kaiba's just watching Yugi more often than not.
Kaiba watched Yugi laughing and hanging out with friends (somehow he took notes on what kind of burgers and soda Yugi liked to buy when he hang out), watched Yugi sweeping the front of the shop and stopping just to say hello to passing-by cats, watched Yugi get surrounded by kids demanding him to Duel and Yugi just gave them free cards...
Kaiba actually saw more of Yugi than the spirit himself 😂
Kaiba wonders why Yugi never openly smiles or laughs like he did with his friends & family whenever he's with him 😂 Yugi instantly just switched to Yami whenever they had "confrontation" with Kaiba and Kaiba maybe felt a little Hurt- it's just like Yugi didn't want to see him at all. How rude >:/ -but he also Convinced himself that the Duel against the Pharaoh is Priority and no, nope, he's not Upset that Yugi's hiding. Not at all.
Meanwhile Atem just "when will these two learn..."
-
Basically
Yugi: wow Kaiba's so smitten to the other me, no way he wants to talk to me. Better just stay hidden in the soul room.
Yugi inner thoughts: Would be nice if we can talk tho. But he doesn't like me
Kaiba: Yugi's hiding again today hmph what a Coward. Not that I want to talk to him. No, nope.
Kaiba inner thoughts: he probably Hates me
Atem: ...WHY are you two like this? ._.

Yu-gi-oh x Avatar:TLA
Been re-watching Avatar the past week and when I searched for it I legit couldn’t find, like, any Yugioh Duel Monster x Avatar The Last Airbender content??? I mean the search feature sucks here so maybe I’m just not seeing it, but, now I have a mighty need for this cross over, so I guess I’ll do it myself! (if anyone knows any other posts about this though please link me to them!)
So first off, Yugi is the Avatar
I don’t care if most think Yami is the main protag it just makes sense to me that Yugi is the Avatar
Much like Aang, Yugi is an airbender, but instead of being raised by a group of monks he was actually raised by his nomadic grandfather, who is also an airbender.
Yugi is basically what everyone thinks of when they think of the stereotypical airbender, he’s intelligent, prefers pacifism, would give a stranger the shirt off his back, fun loving and worldly due to his travels, etc.
On the other hand Grandpa, while kind and not prone to violence, isn’t exactly a “monkly” airbender. He’s way too familiar with gambling halls, tomb raiding, pirating, and pretty much every other seedy side of the different nations you can think of.
While grandpa definitely toned down those..*ahem* less than virtuous adventures when he started raising Yugi, he did not shield Yugi from these things during their travels. Yugi's safety was always his priority, but he also knew it was important for Yugi to learn to take care of himself if he was going to travel the world.
Plus, I mean, when Yugi beat a pirate captain at pai sho at age 12, and won them an ancient water tribe artifact, grandpa knew his bright young airbender could handle his own.
Oh also, Yugi’s flying bison is a brown fluff-ball named Kuriboh. Kuriboh was the runt of his littler, much smaller than most male bison, but that didn’t stop Yugi from bonding with him almost immediately when they met near the air temple (in fact if probably helped them bond more), and the two are now inseparable <3
Grandpa took Yugi against the wishes of the council in charge of the Avatar. The council wanted to shelter Yugi and deprive him of a normal life (much like the monks wanted to with Aang), but grandpa basically said “F all of you” and took Yugi with him so he could have a fun, free life away from all that...at least for awhile.
When Yugi turned 16 the council tracked the boys down, finally told Yugi he’s the Avatar, and demanded he come with them to finish his airbending training and start learning the other elements.
Yugi was honestly, understandably, pretty devastated, his whole life was being stolen from him in the blink of an eye, but, he’s also heard tales of how important the Avatar is for the world and how people would suffer without the avatar, and he couldn’t handle the idea of letting the world down.
Yugi whet with the council, unknowing of that was about to come.
Okay so for Atem I have two possibilities for his role in this AU that I really like, so I’ll just list them both:
#1 is that Atem was the Avatar before Yugi, born as the son of Fire Lord Aknamkanon.
He grew up in the lap of luxury, but never took it for granted thanks to his father, the most peaceful Fire Lord the nation had seen in a long time.
His father dedicated his life to improving relations with the other nations and maintaining peace.
Atem’s uncle, Aknadin on the other hand, was an authoritarian jerk-wad, who thought Fire Lord Aknamkanon weak and unfit to rule the Fire Nation.
You can see where I’m going with this. Aknadin hatched a plan to assassinate both Aknamkanon and Atem, and put himself on the throne, using the death’s of the Fire Lord and Prince as cause for war.
What he did not count on though, was Atem being the Avatar.
Atem didn’t even know he was the Avatar at this point, they were going to wait until he was 16 to tell him, like most Avatars. Atem had no idea he could bend other elements besides fire, let alone realize he had the power of the Avatar spirit.
Even still, when Atem was attacked by his uncle’s assassins, and he was on the verge of dying, his Avatar sate kicked in.
Well, not quite. It began to kick in just before Atem was overpowered by the assassins, but not quick enough to save him. You know that whole thing about “if the avatar dies while in the avatar state, the avatar will cease to be”? Well, this was a strange In-Between.
The avatar cycle was not broken, since the avatar spirit wasn’t fully awoken, but now Atem’s soul, that incarnation of the avatar, is in a strange form of limbo.
It was only 16 years later when the new avatar, Yugi, went into the avatar state for the first time, that his soul was finally brought out of limbo. Only now he and Yugi have a strange bond. Instead of residing somewhere deep inside Yugi’s soul like the other past avatars, Atem seems to be one with Yugi, able to commune with him like a constant companion, and even take over Yugi’s body in times of need.
In this version the new Fire Lord waited years to launch his war, gaining the trust of the other nation while slowly changing and manipulating the ideologies of his own people through propaganda and fear mongering.
Yugi fled the air temple when the firelord finally launched his attack on the air nomads in an effort to kill the new avatar, and during that tramtic ordeal is when Yugi went into the avatar state for the first time and awoke Atem’s soul.
Now Atem’s main focus is helping train Yugi to save the world from Fire Lord Aknadin, who’s hell-bend on world domination.
 OR!
If the whole “Atem dying in a half avatar state that affected his soul” plot doesn’t work for you, I also think we could just simplify things and say that Atem is a Fire Bender dedicated to helping the avatar defeat the tyrant Fire Lord.
In this version Atem would still be a Fire Nation Prince, whose father was dedicated to peace. Only in this version Atem’s father died unexpectedly, and Atem was deemed too young to take the throne, so they put Uncle Aknadin on the throne in Atem’s place.
Atem watched for years while his uncle slowly, meticulously dismantled all of his father’s hard work for peace and was powerless to stop him. All Atem could do was train, improve his firebending, and hope that he could challenge his tyrant uncle to an agni kai for the throne someday.
During that time Atem also found it hard to hold onto his own morals, as his home was every-changing under it’s new Fire Lord, becoming more and more authoritarian and xenophobic. He became a bit harsher during that time, but deep down still held on to his core belief in peace and mercy that his father taught him.
So, when he found out that Aknadin was making plans to wipe out the Air Nomads, and thus, the new Avatar, Atem had to take action.
He fled the Fire Nation to warn the Air Nomads, and he did manage that, but it wasn’t enough to save everyone. Yugi was still too young to fight an army, or the Fire Lord, he hadn’t even begun to learn waterbending let alone anything else. So, when the Fire Lord’s soldiers attacked the temples, the monks insisted Yugi and Atem flee together, live to fight another day, and become strong enough to fight the Warmongering Fire Lord.
No matter which version of Atem we go with everything else stays virtually the same. In the version where Atem is just the spirit of the previous avatar and Yugi’s guide, the Fire Nation still attacked the Air Temples, hoping to kill the new Avatar, he just waited longer to do this, accumulating support and maybe even some alliances with other nations.  But either way, Yugi escapes (after a LOT of arguing against leaving any one, let alone everyone, behind) so he could start his avatar training and defeat this new threat.
In this AU I believe most of the gang’s time would be spent trying to train Yugi in the next elements, but also avoiding capture by the Fire Nation, who’s put a big bounty on Yugi’s head. They also aren’t sure who to trust, as sides are often picked and alliances formed during wars and they have no real way to know what nation would aid them vs the Fire Nation. Unlike the original ATLA show, this is a new war unfolding before their eyes, not one that’s been known and ongoing for 100 years.
Now on to the rest of the cast! Honda is a non-bender, but don’t underestimate him, in a world where he constantly has to avoid the Dai Li and thugs who can earthbend, he’s learned to take care of himself.
Jonouchi is an earthbender, and Yugi actually met both him and Honda while traveling the world with grandpa (before learning he was the avatar).
Jou and Honda were both street kids who joined the gangs in Ba Sing Se in order to survive. Their fellow thugs tried to mug Yugi, thinking him an helpless monk. Peace-loving Yugi didn’t attack them, of course, but used his airbending to dodge their attacks with ease and grace... and ended up humiliating them all when he blew them into a fountain.
While Jou was initially against mugging Yugi (even when he was a thug he always went on about facing opponents who at least stand a chance against you, not picking on the weak) after that incident Jou basically made it his life’s mission to make Yugi’s life hell the whole time Yugi and Grandpa were in Ba Sing Se. He’d track Yugi down pretty much every day to harass him, trying to get Yugi to “fight him like a real man” and just generally being a bully.
Yugi always refused to fight him, even the few times Jonouchi actually landed a hit on him with his earthbending. Grandpa intervened a couple times, but ultimately left it up to Yugi to handle.
Right before Yugi and Gramps made to move on to the next city though, Yugi came across a frantic and injured Honda.
Turns out Jou spoke out against their gang stealing from a family that was already down on their luck and said thugs decided they had enough of Jou’s mouth and wanted to “teach him a lesson”. Honda tried to stop them and defend Jou, but was overpowered just by sheer numbers.
Yugi couldn’t stand by and let this happen, of course, and together he and Honda found where the thugs had taken Jou. Despite the fact that Yugi still refused to strike a damaging blow on anyone, his and Jou’s opposing bending styles actually worked pretty well together and they were all able to escape.
That was the turning point for both boys, but especially Jou and he finally realized that he mistreated Yugi and that Yugi was someone to be admired, not mocked. They unfortunately did not get a chance to make amends then, however, since Yugi and Grandpa were gone the next day.
So about a year later, when Yugi returns to the city after escaping the raids on the Air Temples, Jou and Honda are eager to help him and insist on joining Yugi and Atem, “as the avatar’s bodyguards” if nothing else. And despite being against the idea of endangering them, Yugi had to admit he teared up at the mere thought of friends joining him on his journey.
Next, we of course have Anzu, a waterbender, and Mai, a firebender.
Anzi and Mai have a traveling act together. They combined their bending with intricate dances and make a marvel of it, sometimes doing synchronized performances that focus a lot on how their opposing elements can compliment and balance each other, other times they do solo numbers that are just as mesmerizing with Anzu’s captivating grace and Mai’s mesmerizing passion. They also wear full, intricate face paints (or sometimes even masks) while on stage to help keep them from going unnoticed when traveling.
Anzu also knows a bit of healing with her waterbending, and as they travel through towns/cities, Anzu often uses her time between shows helping heal those who can’t afford medicine. Mai sometimes goes on about how ppl will take advantage of Anzu is she isn’t careful, but secretly really admires Anzu’s kind heart.
Don’t ever underestimate these girls though, their bending isn’t just for performance, they can and will kick your ass with their bending and have held their own again a whole crew of highway men. You don’t travel the world without knowing how to defend yourself, especially if you’re women thugs think they can take advantage of.
The boys came across Anzu and Mai soon after leaving Ba Sing Se. The first glance they got at them was one of their shows and were impressed to say the least (Yugi was particularly captivated by the waterbender, like the big-hearted bi-disaster that he is).
What really impressed them though was that night, when Yugi was taking a walk through the town to clear his head. Once again he was seen as an easy target by his “weak” appearance (season 0 anyone?) and some thugs ambushed him. Before he even had the chance to defend himself though, two women came to his rescue, water-whipping and fire-blazing. It didn’t take much for Yugi to put two and two together and realize they were the dancers from the show, and, being thoroughly impressed by their bending skills, he begged Anzu to teach him waterbending.
Anzu was actually interested in the idea from the start, when they heard about the attacks on the Air Temples and the Fire Nation declaring war, she was outraged. Anzu is nothing if not compassionate and all that life being burn away gave her a slowly growing need to take action, and now the avatar himself was asking her to teach him!
Mai on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with Yugi and his “band of do-gooders” and insisted Anzu turn him down. Mai grew up in the Fire Nation during the rise of the tyrant Fire Lord Aknadin, she knows first hand how ruthless his soldiers can be, and sees it as loosing battle to resist them. In her mind, her and Anzu have a good life going for them, why change that to fight a war they aren’t going to win?
The girls argue about this for awhile, to the point that Anzu actually thinks about leaving Mai to go with Yugi without her, despite the idea of leaving Mai behind tearing her up inside.
Then the town they’re staying in is attacked by Fire Nation soldiers. Everyone, including Mai jumps into action to defend the towns people and together they’re able to fight them off. In the aftermath, having the war’s carnage brought right into her lap, Mai sees that the ruler of her homeland has to be stopped and agrees to join the gang too.
I haven’t thought a ton about the other characters honestly, and I’m especially having trouble placing Ryou in all this, but here are some half developed/misc headcanon:
Seto is a firebender and the son of Fire Lord Aknadin, making him and Atem cousins.
In the version where Atem is just a regular firebender and not the previous avatar, Seto and Atem grew up together. Atem tried his best to convince Seto to leave with him when he set out to warn the Air Nomads of the attack, but Seto refused, already being drawn in by Aknadin’s power-centric teachings.
In the version where Atem is the previous avatar and shares a body with Yugi, Seto was only a few years old when his older cousin Atem was “mysteriously killed” and Seto grew up hearing stories from his father about how they could avenge the young prince and the previous fire lord.
In both versions Seto is similar to a Zuko character. He’s sent out by his father to capture the avatar, but eventually he comes to realize what a warmongering monster his father is and turns on the firelord, joining Yugi and the gang. He’s still an egotistical ass though and is basically constantly criticizing the whole gang the entire time he’s with them. The rivalry between him and Yugi/Atem is still there, because of all the times Yugi whipped him with his airbender while Seto was trying to capture him. Also, Seto honestly believes that he’d make a better avatar than Yugi and thanks to @readerinsertfanfiction now I can’t get the thought out of my head that Seto would try to science his way into becoming a second living avatar 😂
I really want to include Mana and Mahad in this AU as well (since they’re my fave side characters) and thought maybe they could also be firebenders who grew up with Atem and were his close friends. Then when the tyrant Fire Lord took over they started plotting behind the scenes and formed a rebellion within the fire nation. (for real could you imagine the version where Atem was killed by his uncle and now an older Mahad and Mana, who’ve been waging a rebellion in the name of their prince and best friend, meet Yugi and can talk to Atem again and how heart wrenching a scene like that would be??)
Another possibility I thought of for Mahad and Mana was that they’re spirits of deceased airbenders who have gained some power in the spirit world. They commune with Yugi and help guide him and even step in to save him a couple times. This idea play more on the whole “Dark Magician/Dark Magician Girl Duel Monsters” side of things. Heck maybe we could do both these ideas since DM and DMG are usually considered separate entities from Mahad and Mana.
Duke/Otogi, I could image being a character similar to Jet (a charmer/flirt, who’s cunning and vengeful, at least at first? Come on I know you can see it) and maybe even having a similar story of tricking the gang into helping him do something horrible in the name of fighting the Fire Nation, then redeeming himself later.
I’m still a little unsure of Ryou’s story in this AU, but, I think I have an idea brewing involving Ryou being a waterbender who’s been processed by an evil spirit. Said spirit is thriving/feeding on the carnage of the war and often takes over Ryou’s body in order to stoke the fires of said war. This could lead to some interesting stuff involving Ryou wanting to join Yugi and the gang, but the evil spirit always stabbing them in the back. The gang, especially Yugi, would see it as a personal responsibility to save Ryou from the evil spirit and Yugi tries to learn more about his spirit powers in order to help Ryou.
I have some more vague ideas floating around my head, but I think that’s it for now. Boy, these are the longest headcanon I’ve had in while lol. I’m really loving the idea of this AU and I’m even really tempted to write an actual series surrounding it. I’d love to hear your guy’s thoughts about any of this or whether all this is even appealing at all. Please feel free to invade my inbox if yall wanna talk about this AU! <3

@kaibacorpbros said: B, C, F, and L! SFW Alphabet Ask Meme
Tumblr media
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Hmm. He already deems Yugi and Jou as his best friends. Gotta ask them lol. But! Once Atem has formed a deep bond with someone— it’s eternal. He would be always there for them when they find themselves in a difficult situation. As reliable as he is loyal. Technically, he’s already connected to his best friends spiritually as he can sense when they’re in trouble. He’d put their safety first before his own. Starting a friendship can… happen in maaany ways. But I suppose it just— does? Atem would eventually click with someone, hang out with them often. And if it’s been long enough and he senses it in himself he would already know that the person is special. He’d do his best to maintain the bond. Also, slumber parties are guaranteed. 8I Main priority is to have fun, make memories together, and cherish every moment with them.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
If you ask Atem as Yami, he would probably refuse liking that. That is until he mellows down and explores this  ‘softer’  feeling. Eventually he might crave it. But he can’t really cuddle in Yugi’s body. Can’t allow it. Atem in his own body, however, he knows when and how to cuddle. Normally, he doesn’t need it often but he has his moments when he would ask for it on a whim. He’s used to cuddle in the arms of his parents so he knows the feeling brings him happiness. His approach is mostly giving out silent innuendos or scooting close enough, hoping the other person gets it. He doesn’t care about the positions, he can hold and be held. Though, he does like his arms around a person. He also likes to listen to the other person’s heartbeat when cuddling. Bonus if he is holding their hand as well.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
He’s not rushing to marry per se— but he isn’t opposed to it either. Like, it isn’t a mandatory goal but it’s also nice to call someone his other half. Maybe as Pharaoh they would want him to settle down eventually. But that situation is tricky because in reality he died and he doesn’t need to worry about that in the afterlife lol. While in AE the Pharaoh can have a bunch of wives or so, I have it that Atem just wants one person. He is a romantic person to some degree— he may say things that sound like it. He knows when he loves someone romantically and would make it known. Meaning, he wants to commit. He does want to be with the person until the end and even after. The bond is already there and that’s what matters the most. Though, supposedly, he does like the idea of officially declaring that a person is his and he is theirs. That can be thought about when he is aware that the bond is that deep and he wants it as much as they do.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
When Atem’s around children it enables his instinct to protect. Like you know— how mama cats are protective of their kittens? That is how he also is with Yugi— an innocent youngling that doesn’t deserve to be bullied. He is probably the nicest to kiddos as he knows they’re pure-hearted and are yet to learn things about the world. Another reference to his parents— because they treated him with love and care as a child himself, I’d think Atem would do the same with kids. I’ve thought about whether he might eventually want a kid of his own— but the topic is a little complex. Probably more complex than the marriage one. Either way, he’d be good dad. Nuff said. 8I

Why exactly did his father want him to fight 002f? What exactly was he planning besides having him return to serving him if he lost? Aichi wondered all of this as he ended up following the Quatre Knights to Galar with the others by his side. Christopher was back in his normal form. Strangely his clothes weren’t stretched. Perhaps they were made of some special material or something? Yugi had swapped back with Yami. The atmosphere was tense to say the least. His friends from Kakusa stayed extremely close to him especially since he had to recall his Pokémon, except Alfred who floated by his side while he rode on Overlord’s back with Kai. The silence only further intensified the air around them.
They eventually made it over to the Galar region. The main base of team Asteroid was located in Hammerlock city. The massive daunting black castle could be seen over the horizon altering them to their own proximity to the city. They were currently over the wild area where various Pokémon were roaming about. Team Asteroid members were catching some of the wild Pokémon, but not all of them. Aichi took a deep breath knowing that this would be the first time that he had faced his father in person in a very long time.
“You alright?”, Misaki whispered, on top of Guardian.
“I just feel a bit anxious at the idea of meeting my father again. I’m not sure if I want them to really have Ahmes or be just bluffing.”, Aichi replied.
Misaki wasn’t exactly sure what to say to reassure him. His dad was literally a super villain who brainwashed his own son. Aichi had a right to be anxious.
“Well...we all have your back in case something happens.”, Misaki replied, and Aichi said nothing in response.
It was clear he was still very troubled. He had acted confident before, but in reality he was worried. Especially, with himself starting to become one with 003v again. Aichi couldn’t help but fear that...he might completely revert back to being 003v. The thought of it made him shake.
Flashback
“You will always be 003v. You will come to know that soon.”, Leon replied cryptically.
Flashback end
Aichi sweated nervously remembering what Leon had told them when they met. They finally touched down on the soil of the Galar region within Hammerlock city. The Hammerlock’s castle had a red A emblazoned on it showing that the former gym was now the base of Team Asteroid. The sights of Hammerlock seemed familiar to Aichi. Heck, their whole flight in Galar he was experiencing an extreme sense of deja vu. He felt like he knew every building there and could even navigate the complicated layout of the city with ease. It was probably because he has been here not that he fully remembered though. He had lived here for the first few years of his life.
“Man, the base of Team Asteroid is another gaudy castle! That figures!”, Jonouchi commented, cutting the tension like a knife through butter.
“That ‘gaudy’ castle has an important place in Galar’s history.”, Olivier said, glaring at Jonouchi.
“Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! I don’t wanna history lesson about Team Asteroid!”, Jonouchi replied, and Christopher scoffed.
“Actually...Hammerlock’s castle has been around since medieval times. It wasn’t built by Team Asteroid.”, Aichi mumbled, looking over at the scenery.
Jonouchi sweat dropped as the little factoid was dropped on him.
“How do you know so much about Galar, bro?”, Kamui questioned, Aichi was silent for a moment before deciding that he would reveal a little bit about what has been going on with him.
“My memories from before I lived in Kakusa have started to return to me. That’s why I remember Olivier as well. Alfred taught me quite a bit about Galar’s history as well.”, Aichi revealed, causing his friends to gasp in shock and Alfred nodded.
The Quatre Knights eyes widened in surprise. His friends looked rather worried at this revelation. The Kantonians looked a bit confused at this.
“Your memories? Did you lose them?”, Yugi questioned.
“It’s...a long story, but Solgealeo took my memories.”, Aichi replied.
“He did what!?!?!”, Misaki blurted out.
She looked a bit angry like she wanted to strangle Takuto the next time she saw him. Olivier was surprised that Aichi knew his memories were tampered with.
“He didn’t want me to remember my father’s teachings. That’s why when I was taken to Kakusa all those years ago he wiped my memory.”, Aichi explained.
“You know?”, Olivier questioned.
“Yeah...I don’t like the idea that he messed with my memories but...I understand why he did it.”, Aichi replied, thinking of recent events.
“Pfft! If it was me I would never let some glorified Meowth mess with my brain.”, Christopher commented smugly.
He was tempted to sarcastically reply that he was allowing Team Asteroid to mess with his. However, he kept that little thought to himself.
“So, that’s how you ended up like how you are now.”, Yugi replied.
He looked down seeming uncomfortable with the idea of messing with somebody’s memories as well. Even though he understands the intention it just felt...wrong.
A few citizens walking around noticed them especially Aichi and his incredible resemblance to Gin Gaillard.
“Is that him?”, a citizen questioned, their eyes brightened.
“I think it is!”, another said.
“Yeah, bro’s the one who defeated-“, Kamui was cut off as they were crowded.
“He’s finally appeared!” “Our great messiah!” “Now Team Asteroid can finally achieve their goal!”, the citizens cheered.
They sweat dropped except the Quatre Knights and Christopher. Aichi looked completely stunned and very disturbed by how they looked at him. They looked at him like some sort of religious figure.
“W-what! No!”, Kamui yelled.
“These guys really like Aichi don’t they?”, Miwa chuckled nervously.
“Alright! Alright! Back up, we need to get to the base.”, Neve said to the citizens holding his hands out.
“These guys are crazy.”, Honda whispered.
“Yeah, they're like cultists.”, Anzu whispered.
They both also looked rather disturbed by the crowd’s reaction to Aichi. Alfred tensed getting in front of Aichi.
“This is what had become of my kingdom?”, Alfred thought, feeling very disturbed by the citizens' behavior.
He had researched what had happened in his absence, but actually being here was completely different. It’s been hundreds and hundreds of years since he’s been in his home region and to think it’s become like this…
“Hey, Alfred are you okay?”, Aichi asked as Alfred looked down.
Aichi felt a bit guilty knowing his father was behind changing the region that Alfred had cherished.
“I-I’m fine...this is just all strange for me.”, Alfred replied.
Those who weren’t aware of Alfred’s capability for speech were rather surprised to see him talk. Some Team Asteroid members came over to help Neve hold off the crowd to allow them in. Aichi sweated nervously closing his eyes and taking in another breath before opening them and walking forward. His friends stayed close to him. The Kantonians looked around at the base as they walked in. The attention of the Team Asteroid members instantly landed on Aichi. Christopher couldn’t help but scoff at all the attention Aichi had been getting not understanding what made him special.
“Mmm...we should get donuts after this.”, Rati suggested, causing them to sweat drop.
“Rati...you need to get your priorities in order.”, Neve replied.
“That’s why I said after.”, Rati replied, with a smile as Neve face palmed.
Olivier looked over to Aichi. With his friends by his side he couldn’t get very close to him. They eventually arrived in Gin’s throne room. Leon, Triton, Jillian, and Sharlene were there. Sharlene gasped and Jillian’s eyes widened as they saw Aichi.
“Woah! They actually got him!”, Sharlene said.
“Heck no! We decided to come here!”, Kamui yelled.
“Yeah, what he said!”, Jonouchi added.
Aichi didn’t pay too much attention to this while he did briefly look over to Leon, his attention quickly landed on his father sitting on his throne. Honda held Jonouchi back from rushing at Gin. The others minus, Aichi, the Quatre Knights, and Christopher glared at Gin. Some in the room looked between the boy and his father. Seeing the two in the same room Aichi and his father’s resemblance was unmistakable. Aichi felt similar emotions to before swirling in his mind he turned his attention away from his father to dispel them.
“Where’s Ahmes?”, Aichi asked.
“That’s the first thing you say to your beloved father after finally meeting me in person again? Wow, maybe we aren’t that different. I was the same with my old man. Ahem, the Pokémon if you will.”, Gin replied, clapping as Leon revealed a dark ball.
Aichi froze as he laid his eyes on the dark ball. He remembered it from when the rare hunters had used it when they attacked Kakusa to get Celebi and its effects on the mythical. Everyone minus Aichi and Gin flinched as Aichi’s aura completely changed in a split second. A dark murky blue aura surrounded him. They couldn’t help but tremble at the magnitude of Aichi’s anger which they could almost physically feel. They felt like god was in front of them and about to pass judgment into them. His aura felt like it was choking them though in reality it wasn’t causing any physical harm. It just felt like it. Many of those who were a bit weaker willed felt to the ground choking or put their heads to the ground begging for forgiveness. Christopher looked surprised to see the sharp change in his aura. Triton and Leon sweated nervously. Leon was especially nervous since he could actually fully sense Aichi’s power unlike the others besides Christopher who simply felt his aura. Raul had perhaps the strangest reaction, a disturbing smirk. The other Quatre Knights on the other hand looked nervous and concerned. Yami’s eyes widened in surprise.
“What...the fuck?”, Jonouchi questioned, feeling himself shake.
“Is all of this coming from him?”, Honda asked, shaking.
“Yes…”, Kourin replied reluctantly.
“Holy crap, no wonder Team Asteroid is so obsessed with him. He’s not even moving yet he can do this?!”, Honda replied.
“This is…”, Yami trailed off, he looked over to Aichi nervously.
Aichi wasn’t aware of Yami yet since he hadn’t appeared in his spirit form to him. He was behind Yugi who he looked over to with concern.
“Are you alright Yugi?”, Yami asked.
“...His aura might be scarier than the spirit of the ring or even the shadow realm.”, Yugi whispered.
“Yeah...this was the darkness I felt within it...he must really care about this Ahmes.”, Yami replied.
“Aichi calm down.”, Kai said as he put his hand on Aichi shoulder.
He flinched as he touched it the feeling his aura gave off was magnified the moment he touched him. Kai amazingly withstood it and called out for Aichi again.
“Aichi!”, Kai called out.
Aichi blinked regaining himself for a moment as he noticed his auras' affect on the others.
“Ah, sorry guys!”, Aichi apologized, trying to reign in the anger he felt.
“You have to remember about your own aura’s affect on others.”, Alfred reminded.
“Yeah, I know I keep forgetting.”, Aichi replied.
“T-that was unintentional!”, Jonouchi gasped in shock feeling like fainting.
“Hehe. You really don’t know your own strength, son.”, Gin commented.
Well, he wasn’t wrong. Aichi did tend to forget the affects his aura can have on people. He took a breath trying to control his emotions. When his aura fully dissipated those who were choking took a massive breath after falling to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut.
“So, he is strong. Heh, but he clearly does know how to even control it.”, Christopher thought.
“Kai, are you alright?”, Aichi asked with concern.
“Yeah...I’m fine. Don’t forget you have to see if it’s really Ahmes.”, Kai replied, sweating a bit.
“Right…”, Aichi replied.
Alfred wrapped his hand-like cloth around Aichi’s hand squeezing it tightly.
“I’ve got this. No matter what. Do not freak out.”, Aichi thought to himself.
Leon stood up regaining his composure and throwing the dark ball. Out of the ball came a Gallade though, it’s colors were all weird. The parts that should be green were purple and the parts the should be white, black. It’s eyes glowed a menacing red; it stood there like a statue awaiting orders.
“It’s him…”, Aichi thought.
He recognized his aura though it was all twisted and messed up. However even with the manipulation he could still recognize the aura of his oldest friend. It took all of his self control to keep his aura within him. It desperately wanted to break out and destroy the entire castle. He sweated nervously holding in the intense rage he felt.
“What did you do to Ahmes?”, Aichi asked his tone sounded unamused and you could notice his restrained anger.
“When he was being swept away I caught him in the perfected dark ball. The wave was supposed to bring you to Galar because of the interference I caught him to make you come here. When a Pokémon is caught by a dark ball its power is boosted beyond its normal maximum levels and they become emotionless and completely obedient. The intense energy that goes into a Pokémon under its influence causes a discoloration similar to shinies as long as the energy remains in it..”, Leon explained.
“Emotionless…”, Aichi trailed off, looking at Ahmes.
He had a feeling Leon was leaving out parts so he wouldn’t be as mad. Aichi unconsciously held out his hand to Ahmes.
“Ahmes...do you recognize me?”, Aichi asked.
Ahmes was silent briefly looking at Aichi. Aichi struggled to hold in his emotions, visible tears starting to form. Ahmes hand twitched slightly before he put it down. The part of him still in there desperately wanted to comfort his trainer. He had never liked seeing Aichi cry. However, his own desire was pushed down by the power of the dark ball.
“Please...say something.”, Aichi begged.
Aichi’s friends, the Kantonians, Oliver, Rati, Jillian and Sharlene couldn’t help but look a bit sad at this exchange. You could hear the emotion in Aichi’s voice and exactly how much he really cared about Ahmes. Kourin fidgeted a bit and was tempted to go over to him.
“Aichi…”, Alfred said as he squeezed Aichi’s hand in assurance.
He looked over to Ahmes rather horrified at what Team Asteroid had done to him.
“Relax, it’s just a Pokémon.”, Christopher said, and Leon flinched giving Christopher a look.
Christopher simply looked smug, especially seeing a nervous look on Leon’s normally confident face.
“So am I. I don’t care, he's my friend.”, Aichi replied, his voice extremely quiet, his bangs covered his eyes.
“It’s gonna be alright Aichi. We’ll get him back.”, Misaki assured, putting her hand on Aichi’s shoulder.
“Now, you know it’s really him. You know what you have to do now.”, Gin said, before Aichi nodded.
“I do. I have to win the Circuit and defeat 002f.”, Aichi replied as he looked up determined.
Their gazes met and Leon gave him a determined look back.
“You have one month till the circuit. You should prepare yourself.”, Leon said.
“I will.”, Aichi replied.
“The circuit is a team competition with teams of four. You will need three other people.”, Triton informed.

Hello! Something about Yami has been bugging me lately, and I'd just like to ask for thoughts. Do you think Yami/Atem has any of Yugi's memories prior to being released from the puzzle? Childhood memories and all that? Do you think he still clung to them to some degree and thought of them as his own? It always bothered me how easily Yami accepted being a separate spirit, because in the beginning it seemed he though he WAS Yugi!
That’s a good, interesting and complicated question, anon! I’m guessing by “the beginning” you mean the very beginning of the first manga chapters and/or Season 0, not the beginning of the DM anime. For us readers, it’s difficult to see this in a different light now, because we already know who Atem is. So when we look back and re-read the story, we already see Atem as his own person. But let’s try to forget this information and look at the scenes without knowing that Atem exists as his own person:
“It always bothered me how easily Yami accepted being a separate spirit, because in the beginning it seemed he though he WAS Yugi!”
I think that’s due to many reasons: First of all, it could be that Kaz, in the very beginning, maybe didn’t even plan to make Yugi and Atem two separate characters. Maybe he really wanted for Yugi to just magical girl transform into this darker personality. Sometime later, while his story grew more popular, he began to change that. (But consider, that this is just a theory!)
The problem is that it’s hard to pinpoint when exactly that happened: Was it when Shadi first gets introduced, investigating the Millennium Puzzle and challenging/testing Atem?
Tumblr media
From Atem’s POV, the narrative doesn’t give us any hints that he sees himself as a different spirit/being/person aside from Yugi. He calls Jou, Anzu and Honda “his” friends, he talks about them as if he’d already personally interacted with them, even though they don’t know that he exists at this point.
Other characters like Anzu, Shadi and Kaiba refer to Atem very early on as “the other Yugi”. And of course, we know now that they refer to Atem. But back then, without that knowledge, it could just mean that they mean Yugi’s darker personality. Anzu, Shadi and Kaiba try to figure this out on their own, and each one does this with their very own methods. We could now also argue that Kaiba subconsciously knew that “the other Yugi” was Atem all along, his former king from his past life. But we don’t know if Kaz already planned this far ahead at this point.
From these three people, it would’ve been Shadi who had to know from the very beginning who Atem truly was, and that he just wanted his theory to be confirmed. But then again, this is something he says to Atem:
Tumblr media
If Shadi suspects that Atem is the pharaoh who is sealed inside the puzzle, then what he says here doesn’t make any sense, because it wasn’t Atem who came into the possession of the puzzle, and it also wasn’t Atem who solved it. But some scenes later he says this:
Tumblr media
He refers to Jou here as “the other Yugi’s friend” (meaning Yugi), and not Atem’s friend, which is correct. So it could be just that Shadi wasn’t sure of his theory, and with confusing statements and questions, he wanted to determine if Atem truly was the pharaoh’s soul, or if he was still Yugi, but with a darker personality and dark magical powers. In the end, I think, that it is just Kaz’s confusing writing and him wanting the readers to be in the dark.
But not only the readers, the characters in-universe also aren’t sure about this for a long time. Even Yugi himself:
Tumblr media
It’s here, even from Yugi’s POV, still not certain, whether Yugi just transforms into another personality, or if another being takes over his body.
It’s only 100% clear, for the readers and the characters in-universe, that Atem is his own person during the RPG game against Bakura. This is the first time Atem and Yugi truly meet and see each other:
Tumblr media
Atem is able to take control over Yugi’s body, even though Yugi’s soul is currently inside the RPG doll. If Atem and Yugi were the same person, then he wouldn’t be able to do that. The way Yugi reacts upon seeing Atem for the first time is also important: He seems to be blushing, while looking at Atem, I guess that’s due to his shy and introverted personality (meeting new people is embarrassing), and also that he is kind of in awe or amazed with Atem. During the RPG game it’s also been shown that Atem knows different things about gaming aside from Yugi (the trick with the dices).
This all tells us now that Yugi doesn’t just transform into a darker personality. It’s another person taking over his body.
I personally do believe that by the time Shadi gets introduced (at the latest!) was the moment when Kaz intended to have two main characters for his story. But storywise, we are very long in the dark, together with the characters in-universe.
“Do you think Yami/Atem has any of Yugi’s memories prior to being released from the puzzle? Childhood memories and all that? Do you think he still clung to them to some degree and thought of them as his own?”
This is difficult to answer, because we get no information or hints about this at all. So I think this is more a headcanon thing than anything.
It’s interesting though, because without any interaction between Yugi and Atem, Atem still knows where Yugi’s school is located, who Ushio is, and what he did to Yugi and wants from him. All of this happened before Atem’s soul was fully resurrected.
I personally don’t think that Atem regained any of Yugi’s childhood memories, but we do see that he clings to people Yugi cares about (his friends, his grandfather) and that he sees them as a part of his own life:
Tumblr media
I believe that Atem was still able to hear and see things around him, even when the puzzle was still in pieces. We know that he is able to somehow interact or affect people in this state, from the scene when he talks with Yugi’s grandfather in his tomb. When Yugi began to assemble the puzzle Atem regained more and more consciousness. He watched Yugi and his friends, their daily life together and began to see the people close to Yugi as his own friends.
Atem definitely clings to feelings and bonds. Maybe this is the result of his memory loss and him not knowing anything about himself at all. He doesn’t have a name, he doesn’t have a family, he doesn’t have friends, a childhood or a story. He doesn’t even have a goal in life back then. So he made Yugi’s feelings and his well-being, and that of his friends, his top priority and started to be a part of Yugi’s life, because he didn’t have one of his own.

Rules: Post the first lines of your last 10 fics posted to AO3. If you have less than 10 fics posted, post the first lines of all your fics.
I have... Many, many fics, so this won't be a problem. >:)
1.) From [Perfection Through The Lens]
Focus.
Just... Focus.
Atem stared at the pendant swinging in front of his eyes, keeping his gaze trained on it the whole time. There was a voice speaking, but he was far too aware of it. It was supposed to be soothing and lure him into a deep trance. Instead, it was doing the exact opposite and making him overly insecure.
2.) From [How (Not) to Fake a Relationship]
For years, soulmates had always been the talk of the world. No matter the topic of conversation, they came up somehow, whether it was related or not. In the past, there had been strict rules about dating soulmates. You weren't allowed to bed with another human that wasn't your soulmate. You couldn't be romantically involved with anybody who didn't share the unique symbol imprinted on your body.
3.) From [Sinful Desires]
The Church was beautiful.
Yugi admired the interior of the building, studying the stained glass windows with images that told a story. They were all representing stories from the Bible, but he never liked getting into the details. He preferred to use his mind to memorize trading cards... Not religious stories. There was no confirmation for what was out there. There could be one God, or multiple Gods. Many books around the world told different stories and gave numerous laws for what was right and what was wrong.
4.) From [Release]
Pleasure. Lust. Yugi.
Those were the only things that Atem could focus on in this moment. He was lost in another world and in said world, his priority was being good for Yugi. He was behaving and, much to his chagrin, patient. Any other time, he'd be whining and throwing a fit over being teased.
5.) From [Illogical]
Atem wasn't entirely sure how he got into his position-literally. Being bent over a bed with hands gripping his hips and his face smushed into the mattress wasn't a familiar experience for him.
6.) From [An Accidental Confession]
Being a goody-two shoes was hard. Everyone around you was always trying to catch you doing something wrong or worse - trying to force you to do something rebellious and unlawful. Well, Ryou was currently caught up in the latter of those two things.
7.) From [Three Numbers Away]
Being a first responder was difficult. Whether you were a firefighter, a paramedic, or a police officer, the jobs were equally tough. There wasn't one that was harder than the other. They all had their own respective skill levels and mastery.
8.) From [Mistakes]
Cheating was wrong. That much was obvious. It was not right to go behind your girlfriend's back and sleep with your coworker. Yet, Yugi found himself doing exactly that with his boss's secretary. He should've known better and he honestly did, but the temptation was too hard to resist.
9.) From [Forever and Always]
When the Pharaoh left this world, Yugi didn't know what to do with himself. He felt lost, grasping at straws to try and figure out what to do with his life. He'd spent eight years of his life constructing the Millennium Puzzle and the following two years running around Domino City, saving the world and helping out the spirit that resided within the ancient Egyptian artifact. Now, his life was normal.
10.) From [A First for Everything]
What happens when you combine a hockey player, a figure skater, and a dancer? That's a great question! Let's take a look, shall we?
This story begins with a couple that loves the ice and prefers the cold weather. Yami and Yugi Muto had been married for a couple years after dating for much longer. Yami was a professional hockey player while Yugi dabbled in the world of figure skating, competing professionally as well. They always ran into each other during their practices. At some point, Yugi worked up the courage to ask Yami on a date, who agreed. Now, they were closer than ever and had an apartment together.

Yu-Gi-Oh House Sorting
Lately, I’ve been super-obsessed with the House System as espoused by @sortinghatchats, and I’ve been trying to apply it to other fictional characters. Since I know these characters so well, figured I’d start with Yu-Gi-Oh. Don’t kill me for using the dub names, please.
Yugi Muto*
Note: It can be very difficult to separate Yugi and Yami’s personalities from each other, so I focused on instances when it is very clear which one is acting.
Tumblr media
Primary: Hufflepuff
A Hufflepuff primary is defined by caring for people, all people (or at least however the Hufflepuff defines “people”), and Yugi Muto is the kindest, most self-sacrificing person you will ever meet. He made his best friend Joey by claiming him as a friend back when he was relentlessly being bullied by him, and by sticking to him in his time of need. Unlike a Slytherin, he does not prioritize. He is willing to sacrifice his best chance to help his grandfather because he is unwilling to risk harm his rival. He tries his best to defend and protect a downed Pegasus after the man spent months threatening his friends and family. Yugi Muto never meant a person he couldn’t offer friendship to, and even if that person rejects his offer and attempts to harm him or his friends, there’s  STILL a good chance Yugi will do whatever he can to save him if he needs it.
Secondary: Gryffindor
Yugi would befriend the whole world if it’d let him. But when someone needs him, he’ll charge into any kind of danger without a second thought. When the boys who bullied him on a daily basis were being thrashed by a bigger bully, Yugi threw himself between them, even though there was not a chance he’d avoid being pulverized. When Tea Gardner was assaulted, Yugi charged the guy. While not *as* impulsive as fellow Gryffindor secondary Joey, Yugi’s impulse to charge can still get the better of him, as in the shadow game with Bakura, where as the Dark Magician, he is easily goaded into a premature attack.
Yami Yugi
Tumblr media
Primary: Slytherin
As a Slytherin primary, Yami prioritizes himself and “his people” over everyone and everything else. At first, “his people” was solely Yugi, but over the course of the series, he began to expand his definition to all of Yugi’s people. (And since Yugi is a Hufflepuff primary, there are a LOT of people).
Without his memories, Yami had no real idea of who he was, but he began to construct an identity (and morality) for himself as a hero. To this end, he models Gryffindor, “doing the right thing,” acting as a champion for the weak or wronged, seeking to save the world. But when push comes to shove, if asked to choose between saving the world and saving Yugi, he will pick Yugi every time. He is willing to send Kaiba to his possible death if it means he can rescue Yugi’s grandfather (and protect his spotless win record). He uses the tainted Seal of Orichalcos despite knowing of its evil because he believes it is the only way to win. All of his darkest moments come when he has failed to protect those closest to him, particularly when his use of the Orichalcos results in Yugi’s soul being captured, but also when Marik nearly kills Joey.
Secondary: Gryffindor
Yami Yugi will step up fearlessly to any challenge. He’s never backed away from a fight, and he’s not able to start. Experience and strategy may cause him to take caution in a given scenario, but for Yami Yugi, inaction is never an option. The Gryffindor secondary he shares with Yugi is one of the core parts of their bond, and what allows them to work so effectively as a single entity.
Tea Gardner
Tumblr media
Primary: Hufflepuff
Like many Hufflepuff primaries, Tea bonds to groups. She honestly and sincerely believes in the power of friendship, that being kind and compassionate can change things, and everyone in need is deserving of help. (And her tendency to speechify about this made her infamous in the fandom) It’s this unqualified compassion that bonds her to Yugi, and on several dramatic occasions to clash with Yami Yugi. She steps in to urge Yugi to spare Kaiba in the duel atop Pegasus Castle, and again to stay Yami’s hand against Weevil when victory had turned into brutal retribution.
Secondary: Hufflepuff
Hufflepuff secondaries toil, and there is no character who believes more in the power of steady hard work than Tea Gardner. While her personal arc often takes a backseat to her friends’ louder shenanigans, Tea has a great ambition to be a professional dancer someday. How does she plan to accomplish this? Work. Working hard to earn money so she can go to school in New York, so she can work hard to acquire the skills that she needs. Kidnap the girl and put her in a room with boxes, and she will try one (not great) plan after another, over and over, without flagging, in an attempt to escape. Tea is steady, and it’s that steadiness that makes her the glue that holds Yugi’s group of friends together.
Joey Wheeler
Tumblr media
Primary: Gryffindor
Gryffindor primaries trust their instincts. They “go with their gut,” what they instinctually feel is right or wrong. To do otherwise feels immoral to them. Joey Wheeler is probably the most instinct-driven character on the show, and his Gryffindor primary drives him to do all kinds of actions he’d rather not (including helping out people he really doesn’t like), because to do otherwise would be just wrong. Although his large group of friends is important to him, he doesn’t need-base decisions like a Hufflepuff, and no matter how fiercely loyal he is to his sister or his best friend, he never puts them ahead of doing the right thing, something that sharply separates him from fellow devoted big brother Seto Kaiba.
Secondary: Gryffindor
Gryffindor secondaries charge. That’s Joey, charging off without a second thought, considering the consequences later, whether it’s diving headlong into freezing cold water to recover playing cards, stepping in front of the blast of an incredibly powerful being. His default response to every situation is to meet it headlong.
Seto Kaiba
Tumblr media
Primary: Slytherin
A Slytherin primary is defined by the drive to put “me and mine” first, and that’s Seto Kaiba to a T. For Kaiba, there are exactly two people in the world he truly cares about: himself and his little brother Mokuba. He would do absolutely anything it takes to keep Mokuba safe and cared for, and he’s certainly no stranger to self-preservation, either. Mokuba Is priority #1, himself is #2, his company (still a part of his “mine”) is a somewhat distant #3, and the rest of the world can burn if it has to.
Secondary: Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw secondaries are the planners. They *can* improvise, charge, or toil, but above all, they prefer to collect information, devise strategies, and go into any situation completely prepared. Kaiba is one of the most methodical strategists in Yu-gi-oh. When he was a child, he collected information on Gozaburo Kaiba’s chess playing strategies, just so he could beat him at a game—and win a better life for himself and his brother. When attempting to take down Pegasus (and recover his brother and his company), Kaiba doesn’t charge in hoping the rightness of his cause will defend him like Yami Yugi does. Instead, he carefully considers what will give him a needed advantage, and builds an invention that will give him that advantage. Yes, when that plan fails (because of his incredibly strong Slytherin primary being used against him), he is forced to improvise, but he does it as a last resort. Kaiba’s first instinct is always to make a plan.
Mai Valentine
Tumblr media
Primary: Slytherin
When we first meet Mai, she is a Petrified Slytherin—as a result of her painful childhood in a broken home, she believes she is better off without anyone and she refuses to form attachments. She rejects Jean Vanne-Claude’s offer of marriage for no discernable reason, and views every person as a merely someone to be manipulated or defeated. However, over the course of the first season, Yugi’s group, particularly Joey, get to her, and despite herself she finds she’s let them into her inner circle. By the end of the second season, she’s thawed enough to offer help to strangers Duke and Serenity merely based on their bonds to “her” people. In his shadow game, Marik uses her newly formed bonds against her, first by making her forget about her friends, and then by torturing her with a reality where she is imprisoned in torment while they blithely ignore her.
While she initially recovers from Marik’s psychological torment, it, along with a series of events between seasons, causes her to Petrify again, shedding all of her emotional bonds and joining Dartz’s organization. Although she pledges her loyalty to the Orichalcos, it is clear from her interactions with Dartz and his agents that she has no real loyalty to them. Valon desperately tries to bond with her, but she utterly refuses to allow him any place in her affections. Although she has renounced all of her previous bonds with her friends, Joey refuses to give her up, and finally, finally, at the very last moment, is able to reignite his bond with her, which overcomes the Orichalcos’ influence over her.
Secondary: Ravenclaw
While Mai is an excellent manipulator, which would seem to make her a fit for Slytherin, and she has a brash temper to rival any Gryffindor’s, one of Mai’s defining qualities as a duelist is her strategizing. Mai always has a pre-determined game plan ahead of every situation. She knows her win-condition and she knows how she is going to get to it. While her strategies are often clever and successful, frequently, Mai is so committed to her particular plan, that once it is thwarted, she is unable to devise any other way of getting through a situation, and she will stop trying. This happens in her first duel against Joey when he smelled through her “aroma strategy,” and stopped her only monster card, and in her duel against Yugi when he defeats her Harpie’s Pet Dragon.
Thoughts? Arguments? Other characters I should do (Will probably take on a few more YGO characters soon)?

liveblog: yugioh! s211-220
ep211
the dark magician (<3) should never be messed with
yugi doesn't know the true potential of dark magician? um okay
hell yeah a shadow realm duel
dark magician!! <3
oh hell yeah twirl your staff!!
but this was a good opening move from yami
ep212
evil!dark magician vs dark magician <3
wow all these face down cards
in another setting it'd be hot seeing the dark magician stretched out on a stable but not when there's a guillotine above him
but yes saved by magical hats!
haha this is funny
"he'd help me win back catherine with the help of his millennium rod!"
thi sis a kids show
marik is a man of honor - this coming from an illusionist
once again, kaiba is actually brilliant
"you will never command their respect with kindness or trust"
that's not what machiavelli would say
evil!dark magician doesn't look too hot being referred to as a pawn
ep213
"well you're partially right but mostly misinformed"
DARK MAGICIAN GIRL!!!! <3 <3
thank you for this necessary scene of introduction
shes so cute :3
wow catherine was a doll who would've thought
ep214
time for a shower then we shall continue!
some strange kid asks to see your dueling disk and you fucking give it to him joey is dumb
and it's like a fucking 10yo
oh wow how surprising this 10yo was doing something on weevil's bidding
ep215
yeah fuck weevil
ep216
i, too, would be weirded out if some fake ass mime decided to randomly move after having NOT moved in 3hrs
if you had power wouldn't we know about it?
no yugi you wouldn't because yami didn't even know his own name
"i duel with respect, and honor"
comical exchange
okay so this is the duel with slifer the sky dragon
and yes this slime monster becomes a problem if i remember correctly
i've thought about getting gray lipstick but i wouldn't have much to wear it with
though i do have this nice grayish brown that i like to wear on occasion because it's warm-toned and goes well with a lot of the stuff i wear
oh yeah revival jam! THIS was the annoying monster
ep217
SLIFER THE SKY DRAGON!!!
sexy
joey is gonna challenge kaiba to a duel, fool
what's hysterical is kaiba having mokuba carry his heavy ass suitcase full of cards
haha joey got saved because of slifer being played
dark magician girl <3
it's over 9000!!!!
kaiba being supportive and giving yugi advice haha
ep218
14000 ATK points - obscene
hahahahahaha we love loops
kaiba: duel me right now! yami: my friends are in danger
slifer ended up having some stupid obscene ATK point total by the end , like it had to have been over 40k, if not 50k, by the time malik's puppet ran out of cards
marik has come to domino city! onhis cool motorcycle
ep219
kaiba'a only helping yugi find his friends just so he can then duel for slifer
priorities are important
whack-a-mole
ep220
joey vs tsunami
i have a video up on the difference between amber and ambergris (perfume scents) because i'm trying a new perfume and fuck me it's way too floral
which is just funny because the description says it's a blend of white ambers and musks
i like amber and musks but this scent is so fucking cloying ugh and it must be because of the white amber and not the regular amber
as inspiring as the pep talk joey is giving to tsunmi is, this erfume is killing me
i thought i could just sit in it and let it keep drying down but ugh fuck me i just smelled it and just gagged oh no
tsunami lost but he learned that his father's courage is always with him and he doesn't need his card to be inspired

RP PLOTTING CHEAT SHEET
(originally created by hatsudenki)
Repost don’t reblog
Tumblr media
Mun name: Vani (IDC how you guys will address me by)
OOC Contact: IMs or Disc.ord (mutuals only)
Who the heck is my muse anyway:
Atem (or Yugi as he used to go by) was once a powerful pharaoh, from 3000 years in the past. Unfortunately due to the war (the battle against TK Bakura, and Zorc. Which led to him sealing away his soul inside of the millennium puzzle) his reign was short-lived, on top of that his existence has been completely erased from history. His story had been deemed lost for good. Fast-forward to the 21st century a boy managed to solve the millennium puzzle, which awakaned his spirit. He resided Yugi’s body, with no recollection about who or even what he was. Thanks to the help of his vessel and his friends, they are capable of restoring his memories and finally let his spirit rest in the afterlife (in the company of his court, friends, family and loved one.).
Points of interest:
// Atem can’t exist in the modern world (mortals realm), without Yugi’s body. Although this becomes nearly impossible to do, ever since he made it to the afterlife.
During his time with Yugi, he carries out a relatively normal life. He is always accompanying his partner, and is extremely open-minded about trying new things.
What they’ve been up to recently:
Golden arid sands verse: Atem’s reign has begun, and he is getting used to the new life. He is always in the company, of any of his priests or members of the royal court. Unfortunately, he is stuck within the palace, he is rarely brought out or even allowed outside of it for his safety. Unfortunately, this isn’t exactly a high point in Atem’s life, he is going through a lot of self-doubt and questioning himself in regards to his powers and those around him.
Nameless & forgotten but not lost: Standard for interactions- Takes place anywhere within DM’s duration. While it is a priority for them to figure out, Atem’s (yami Yugi’s) past and try to recover his memories. Yugi still is a normal boy that has a life of his own, which as imagined comes before anything else.
Lay me to rest: Post-DM. Atem is finally capable of becoming the pharaoh he has always, aimed to be. Meanwhile along the way, he reconnects with his old friends, family and most importantly with his lover. All while, he stays in touch with Yugi through dreams, on top of teaching him how to use magic. His soul is finally receiving, the peace it deserved all along.
Where to find them:
// In AE and afterlife, he can be easily found in the royal palace. He rarely leaves it.
Meanwhile as yami!Yugi, he is pretty much anywhere that Yugi is. They will easily swap places, if they ever feel the need for it.
Current plans:
// I don’t have any? Not in the sense of making something, that would involve other muns muses. I’ll just keep working on my HCs, and hopefully write a few drabbles I have been meaning to get to for awhile.
Desired interactions:
// gIMME THE GEEK SQUAD!! Gimme Yugi and all of his friends!!! Let Yami have fun and discover more about the 21st century together!!
I also would love to write anything with his folks from AE, either during his mortal life or in the afterlife TBH.
Offered interactions:
// Oh geez: I'm pretty open in regards to when an interaction takes place. From his mortal life in AE, his yami!Yugi time and even anything taking place in the afterlife.
I know that in the end, it can be lowkey limited to mostly AE muses. But I really, don’t feel like having an AU where Atem stays. It just doesn’t work for my take on him.
Current open post/s:
// Unless there is a dash shenanigan that involves my Atem? I don’t really do any opens, sorry.
Anything else?:
Please be mindful about the canon source of my muse! He is being strictly based off the anime. I don’t take season 0, the manga, the games and especially not the movies into consideration for my interpretation!
For shippings: My Atem is primarily being shipped with my interpretation of priest Set, that’s his mainverse. I’m not really that interested, nor keen in writing that many other ships with him. But if they happen, they must be heavily discussed and written- because they will stand as an entire AU. The only ships I straight up refuse to plot anything are any versions of Bakura/Atem, I’m not interested on them.
I don’t expect my portrayals/takes on the characters to be everyone’s cup of tea. I’m bound to touch on certain subjects that might be upsetting for certain users, so please take care of yourself and know your limits.
I haven’t watched everything related to YGO. I’m the most familiar with DM and GX, I still have to catch up with everything that came afterwards.
I want to remind you all that, any and all HCs that mention a character’s name. Will never be applied nor enforced, upon anyone’s muses!
I can rp on disc.ord as well, if that’s easier for you!
Please don’t let these things intimidate you! I look forward to talk & discuss with you!

AU Headcanon Time!
Yuugi Muto: The Gangster Prince
There is a reason why Ryou is and will be wary, cold or even hostile to any Yuugis/ Atems who come his way.  That is not to say, he will not try his best to be polite and remember that not every Yuugi/ Atem is one from his world.
Yuugi Muto in this AU, is a short stack, Gangster Prince, the heir to his Grandpa’s fortune and power of their little corner of Domino, fronted by his Grandfather’s toy and game shop.  He has a penchant for games, who never loses and is never turned or turns down a challenge.  His personality is similar to that of Season 0 Yami Yugi with a sweet, innocent facade, milking everything he can from his short stature and big eyes.
Like his Grandpa, Yuugi is a frequent visitor to the speakeasy, and normally likes to simply gamble, but there are nights were he wants to up the ante and he and his crew will pick out folks for a dance in the alley, and have a battle with his Ka’s.  There was a time where battles became so frequent the Speakeasy was nearly shut down.  It was one such night, Yuugi decided to pit an unfair battle of 3 men on 2, 4 Ka’s on 2.  Yuugi is a natural wielder of three Ka’s and is able to use two simultaneously with ease, and enjoys having a definite victory.
Ryou intervened before the final blows, allowing the two break to for it.  However, Ryou had broken two of the most sacred rules of gaming.  1. It is bad manners to interrupt a game or to snipe a kill.  2. Taking Yuugi’s win.
Yuugi and his men went after Ryou and chased him into the woods.  The terrain was to his advantage and Ryou managed to give his two goons the slip, knocking both of them out.  Eventually Yuugi caught up with Ryou, and attacked him with Dark Magician and Dark Magician girl, roaring that Ryou was good as dead for stealing his win, and he didn’t care if his death put him and the speakeasy at odds.  No one stole from him.  He was the King of Games.
They tracked deeper into the woods, Ryou landing strikes to his arm, leg and side. In their panting white breaths rising in the night air, an angered Yuugi upped the ante and called his Celtic Guardian, pitting three at Ryou.   Headless Knight and Earl managed to take down Magician Girl and his Guardian, but Ryou lost Knight and now they stood at a ridge at a standstill.
Yuugi compliments how he never thought that someone like Ryou could hold him off with such simple, empty and decaying Ka’s.  He congratulates him for lasting this long, and that he was almost glad he was able go against the man who had fought off his men. And in Muto fashion he orders Dark Magician to destroy Earl of Demise and Ryou.
Blade and staff clash, Yuugi pouring every bit of his murderous intent into his attacks, pushing Ryou closer and closer to the ridge.  Until the hears the ground crackle and Ryou teeters on the edge.  Yuugi makes snide comment about how all rising stars must fall and that Ryou should be grateful that he was going down in such a fashionable way.  One last attack and Ryou falls over the edge and disappears from sight.  Feeling the satisfaction of victory and elimination of a rival, Yuugi leaves.
A few weeks later, Yuugi receives a priority seating to a show.  The lights dim the curtain draws and a roll of fog rolls out. The audience roars for the returning duet pair.  Yuugi looks up confused at the chant and meets a pair of brown eyes filled with smug contempt, and a devilish smirk.   His blood boils.
“Let’s play a game tonight, ladies and gents!  MV and I have new song, let’s see which side of the room can do the chorus the best!  The winning side...gets drinks on the house!” And divided room right down the middle, with one side clearly emptier than the other, his eyes never leaving the gangster Prince, who was sitting next to his enamored Grandfather.
The ridge’s drop off had only a few feet of vertical fall before it sloped down to a steep draw into an old dried up basin.  His fall had been broken by the decaying tree crowns and sparse vegetation that were in the forest’s shadows.  It had taken him a few weeks to recover, but he never forgot how much Yuugi had the intent to kill, and for those weeks he was, until he decided to return with style.

Just some headcanons, you can ignore if you want:
-Atemu is gay, he’s tried liking girls, but he only loves them platonically. He doesn’t really say anything about it until later, and even then he’s quiet about it still cause what’s the big deal? He doesn’t have to let the world know the King of Games is gay. He has a huge crush on Yugi though.
-Yugi is pan, with no real preference. He’ll love you regardless of how you identify yourself. Also, he develops crushes easily and he can’t stand it, why are people so wonderful and why are there a lot of people who tend to be his type(s)???
-Jounouchi is bi-curious. He likes girls, but he is interested in men as well and has considered dating Yugi, but he doesn’t know how to come out and ask.
-Anzu is bi, with a preference for men
-Ryou is gay, and like Atemu, he doesn’t really make a big deal about it
-Yami Bakura is gay as well, he’ll make a big deal out of it cause he’s almost as extra as Kaiba. Almost.
-Mai is pan, like Yugi, but she does tend to lean more towards feminine individuals
-Kaiba is possibly asexual, but he has feelings for Atemu. But he’s not going to admit to them, ever, nope, totally going to deny his feelings, duel me Yugi.
            - Actually, he probably doesn’t really label himself, why would he want to do something like that? It’s not like it’s the most important thing about him??? It’s something, but he has other priorities to deal with than who is attractive to him (*coughyugiandatemucough*)
-Isono is married to his job, and it’s a wonderful marriage
Some bonus stuff I’ve mentioned before and one I haven’t:
-Trans Atemu and trans Mai gives me life
-Yugi identifies as male, but he will wear feminine clothes without really caring what others think cause its just clothes, and he’s the kid who duels in leather and belts. Atemu loves to wear similar clothes with him on days when his dysphoria doesn’t get to him, especially because if he wears skirts, it just reminds him of when he was pharaoh and it was normal then
Sorry, these are just my headcanons and I wanted to share them cause I was thinking about them before bed last night.
If you have headcanons, I’d love to head them! :D I always love seeing other people’s headcanons!
