I love finding fics tagged with “Scott is a Bad Friend/Bad Alpha” and “Scott McCall dies” in completely unrelated fandoms a full five years after the show ended because what show DOESNT need fic where it’s characters also get an opportunity to be used to regurgitate what I’m betting are the exact same talking points used in every other fic tagged like that for the ten thousandth time?

Like how are these people not bored yet? How many ways are there to say “and here’s why I think we should all just totally stab Caesar”?

I shake my head and laugh incredulously because I can not think of a single character who actually does terrible, hateful, evil things….that has ever had this many people come out of the woodwork looking to ‘vent’ their hatred of them with gratuitous bashing, smear fics and killing them off over and over.

Imagine hating a teenage protagonist this much for just…..idk whatever you’re all pretending is the reason this week, since of course it’s still not and never has been just an opportunity to have other fans validate your racism.

Tbh I don’t know which is the worse option at this point: that you truly, genuinely don’t think there’s ANYTHING else going on under the surface of your rabid hatred of a character of color whose greatest actual ‘crime’ was daring to upstage the white characters in HIS OWN DAMN SHOW, or that maybe you are fully aware that how intensely you hate this character is not the same as the way you are with white characters you dislike, but you’ll keep doing it and doubling down forever, so long as you’re convinced you’re faking a degree of plausible deniability.

Frey Civil War: The Many Walders & Waldas Frey

1. Lord Walder Frey of The Crossing (92 y/o), Patriarch of House Frey. Has outlived 7 wives & married an 8th. Hosted the Red Wedding.

2. Walda Frey (9 y/o), daughter of Janyce Hunter. 2nd in the Frey line of inheritance, as the assumed heir of Edwyn Frey (eldest son of Ryman, the eldest son of Ser Stevron by his 1st wife, Corenna Swann: Ser Stevron was Lord Frey's eldest son, by his 1st wife Perra Royce, & was found dead in his tent after the Battle of Oxcross).

3. "Black" Walder Frey (20~42 y/o), 2nd son of an unnamed spouse & the late Ryman Frey (a key conspirator of the RW, later found hanged by outlaws near Fairmarket). He is the younger brother of Edwyn & the elder half-brother of Walton. Black Walder was a key conspirator in the Red Wedding & the killer of a Vance.

4. Walder Vance (9~29 y/o), eldest son of Ser Dafyn Vance & the late Maegelle Frey (only daughter of Ser Stevron, born of his 2nd marriage with Jeyne Lydden). His exact relation to Houses Vance of Atranta & Wayfarer's Rest is uncertain, as is his relation to the Vance slain by Black Walder at the RW.

5. Walton Frey (32~52 y/o), 3rd son of Ser Stevron & his only child by his 3rd wife (Marsella Waynwood, died in childbirth). He has only appeared in appendices, thus far.

6. "Fair" Walda Frey (18 y/o), only daughter of Deana Hardyng & Walton Frey. She was one of many Frey women who danced with King Robb Stark at the Red Wedding.

7. "Red" Walder Frey (15 y/o), 4th & youngest son of Genna Lannister & Emmon Frey (2nd son of Lord Frey by his 1st wife, Perra Royce). He is a squire at Casterly Rock.

8. "White" Walda Frey (11 y/o), only daughter of Jeyne Beesbury & Rhaegar Frey (2nd son of Ser Aenys, Lord Frey's 3rd son by his 1st wife). Her father is currently MIA.

9. Walder Haigh (5 y/o), eldest son of Ser Harys Haigh (eldest son of Perriane, Lord Frey's eldest daughter & his last child with Perra Royce). Knights of House Haigh participated in the RW massacre.

I love researching something and then finding something other than what I was looking for that’s also fascinating like, I’m going through the rfta transcription bc one of my fic ideas is about Phoenix reminding various people of Mia but that’s besides the point, it led me to the Lana’s line about Mia talking to her about Phoenix, saying that she’s heard ‘quite a bit’ about him.

Anyway she totally knows that he ate glass and is very likely to get the inside scoop on Edgeworths gay brooding and I’m guessing that the promise for a dramatic trial is the only thing keeping her from going insane in her situation.

eddie almost died, it was so fucking close and it was all steve’s fault. he knew leaving eddie and dustin would be stupid, he knew the moment eddie called him back and told him to make vecna pay. He did get there in time, enough time to check for a pulse, haul eddie’s body over his shoulder (he was a lot heavier than he looked) and threaten his parents on the hospital staff to get eddie the attention he needed.

steve didn’t fully process what had happened until he found himself sitting next to the sleeping boy’s bed and began reassuring him that it’d all be better soon. a few months and it’d be summer and the upside down would be locked away for good, and they could both step out of the stupid high school shit they’d been forced into and maybe become actual friends. if steve was reassuring himself more than eddie that’s for him to know and ignore.

then the beeping began,

steve, always last to pick up the clues didn’t even realize what was happening until the doctors came rushing in and he was being pushed out. he didn’t even notice that he’d started yelling eddie’s name let alone the moisture building up in his eyes.

the water lapped up to the sides of the tub as the tap was turned off, as hot as the water tank would allow. steve had hated the feeling of water around him since barb but he still found himself sinking back into the scorching heat, felt his hair fan out and held himself there for a long time. long enough that the water had gone cold and his skin had pruned up and his throat burned from trying to stop the insistent rhythm of his breath.

he was driving to Robin’s house. taking her to her new job at the library. his vision was a little blurry and he didn’t have a single thought running through his head but it’d been like that for weeks so it couldn’t be that big of a deal. besides, his job was taking care of the kids and making sure that nobody was being forgotten after…everything. he had to make up for all his mistakes. it was the only thing left for him so he stretched his arm out around the headrest and felt the emptiness there. felt the missing noise and energy and just life. eddie would have filled that hole perfectly.

i recently read and confirmed elsewhere (on tudorhistory q/a ... of all things) that there was actually a (single, afaik) precedent for a royal marriage wherein the widow married her husband’s brother, it was however very different in circumstance to the marriage of catherine and arthur and subsequently henry which is maybe why it was never brought up precedentially by either side....

On 18 October 1319 the wedding ceremony between James of Aragon and Eleanor of Castile took place. James, according to the chronicles of the time, refused to give the kiss of peace during the ceremony, and James II had to do it.[2] After the ceremony, officiated by the Archbishop of Tarragona, the bridegroom again transmitted to his father his desire to renounce his rights to the throne and enter a convent. After the wedding ceremony, and after a discussion with his father, he fled on horseback, leaving his wife abandoned, and in December 1319, renounced his rights to the throne of Aragon in the Convent of San Francisco of Tarragona. Immediately, he took the habit of the Knights Hospitaller in the Convent of Santo Domingo of the same city.[2]

Alfonso, King James II's younger son, was proclaimed heir apparent. The rejection of Eleanor could have caused serious diplomatic incidents between the Castilian and Aragonese courts. James II informed Eleanor's grandmother, Queen Maria, about his regret for the actions of his eldest son, incomprehensible to him. During the spring of 1320 Eleanor remained lodged in the city of Tortosa; during her stay there, James II and Alfonso became aware that the younger James planned to recover his wife and his rights to the throne, and the conspiracy was thwarted by his father.[3]

After her stay in Tortosa, Eleanor lived in the cities of Zaragoza, Calatayud and Ateca, from where some Castilian ricohombres returned her to the Kingdom of Castile and León.[4] Once in her homeland, Eleanor retired to the Abbey of Santa María la Real de Las Huelgas, although she never took the veil.[5] In early 1325, King Edward II of England proposed the marriage of his eldest son, Edward, with Eleanor, and sent his proxies to negotiate the terms of the wedding by charter dated 6 February 1325. The union never took place due to Edward's deposition.

so...never lived together, never so much as even shared the same bed the night of the wedding, not to mention he takes orders before he can do any of these things, and abdicates (although apparently he gets cold feet/buyers’ remorse later...). very different case, but, funnily enough, eleanor does have sons by her previous husband’s brother after their marriage:

In Ágreda in January 1329 the betrothal between Eleanor and King Alfonso IV of Aragon was signed, and the wedding ceremony took place one month later, on 5 February in the Church of San Miguel de Tarazona. The ceremony was attended by King Alfonso XI of Castile and King James II's children, Maria, John, Peter and Ramón Berenguer. Alfonso IV gave his new wife the city of Huesca and other villages and castles belonging to the Aragonese crown.[4] This marriage improved relations between Castile and Aragon in a renewed alliance formed with the aim of reconquering Granada. The Kingdom of Aragon had breached several marriage agreements, returning to Castile several princesses after breaking off engagements, and this union put an end to the practice.

Eleanor became a disruptive influence in Aragon, plotting to advance the interests of her own sons over those of her stepson, Peter, born from Alfonso IV's first marriage with Teresa d'Entença, Countess of Urgell, who died in 1327. She convinced her husband to consent to make significant territorial donations to the children born to them, Ferdinand and John. Alfonso IV was generous and on 28 December 1329, he granted Ferdinand the Marquisate of Tortosa and the cities of Albarracín, Orihuela, Callosa, Guardamar, Alicante, Monforte, Elda, La Mola, Novelda and Aspe.[7] Eleanor's younger son John also received several lordships: Elche, Biel and Bolsa.

These donations made by Alfonso IV diminished the territorial patrimony of the crown and mainly affected Peter, producing a climate of resentment in the Aragonese court. Because of this the nobility was divided into two camps. One of the two sides was in favor of Queen Eleanor and her sons, and the other defended the prerogatives of Peter and his full siblings. When the King granted his son Ferdinand the cities of Xàtiva, Alzira, Sagunto, Morella, Borriana and Castellón de la Plana, all located in the Kingdom of Valencia, the local subjects protested, and for this reason the King decided to revoke these last donations

Hostages tortured to death. Parents executed in front of their children. Doctors beaten. Babies murdered. Sexual assault weaponised. No, not Hamas crimes. This is part of an ever-growing list of documented atrocities committed by Israel in the five months since 7 October – quite separate from the carpet bombing of 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza and a famine induced by Israel’s obstruction of aid. And yet while the western establishment media has been chock full of the most lurid allegations of savagery directed against Hamas, sometimes with little or no supporting evidence, Israeli atrocities are excused or quickly forgotten. Accusations against Hamas are endlessly reheated to paint a picture of a supremely dangerous and bestial militant group, in turn rationalising the slaughter and starvation of Gaza’s population to “eradicate” it as a terrorist organisation. But equally barbarous atrocities committed by Israel – not in the heat of battle, but in cold blood – are treated as unfortunate, isolated incidents that cannot be connected, that paint no picture, that reveal nothing of import about the military that carried them out. If Hamas’ crimes were so savage and sadistic they still need to be reported months after they took place, why does the establishment media never feel the need to express equal horror and indignation at equivalent or worse acts of cruelty and sadism being inflicted by Israel on Gaza – not five months ago, but right now? Israel's torture of doctors, its sexual assaults of Palestinian women, it's leaving premature babies to die after its forces stormed a hospital. Where is the outrage? This is part of a pattern of behaviour by the western media that leads to only one possible deduction: Israel’s five-month-long attack on Gaza is not being reported. Rather, it is being selectively narrated – and for the most obscene of purposes. Through consistent and glaring failures in their coverage, establishment media – including supposedly liberal outlets, from the BBC and CNN to the Guardian and New York Times – have smoothed the way for Israel to carry out mass slaughter in Gaza, what the World Court has assessed as plausibly a genocide. The role of the media has not been to keep us, their audiences, informed about one of the greatest crimes in living memory. It has been to buy time for US President Joe Biden to keep arming his most useful of client states in the oil-rich Middle East, and to do so without damaging his prospects for re-election in November’s US presidential vote. If Russian President Vladimir Putin was a madman and a barbarous war criminal for invading Ukraine, as every western media outlet agrees, what does that make Israeli officials, when every one of them supports far worse atrocities in Gaza, directed overwhelmingly at civilians? And more to the point, what does that make Biden and the US political class for materially backing Israel to the hilt: sending bombs, vetoing demands for a ceasefire at the United Nations, and freezing desperately needed aid? Worrying about the optics, the president expresses his discomfort, but he carries on helping Israel regardless. While western politicians and commentators worry about some imaginary existential threat those brief events of five months ago pose to the nuclear-armed state of Israel, Israel is quite literally wiping Gaza off the map day by day, quite undisturbed.
