How to Play as Link in DnD 5e (2.0)
Tumblr media
With the release of both Mythic Odysseys of Theros and now the new big expansion in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, I figured now would be a good time to reexamine Link with the context of new subclasses, class features, and game mechanics that weren’t around the last time that I built him. While I won’t do this for every character I’ve built before, characters who have new options made available with these updates will get a new rebuild for 2021. If you want to compare and contrast this build to the original, I will link that build right [here].
Tumblr media
The Spirit of the Hero
Link’s a Hylian and that’s just a fancy way of saying elf. His best racial options are either the High Elf, the Wood Elf, or the Half-Elf. Half-elf’s extra skills are tempting, but as Link is never given any parents or an ancestral family tree, we can’t really justify him as a half-elf. We’ll call him a Wood Elf for the extra +2 to his Dexterity and the +1 to his Wisdom as well as that woodsy vibe. But if you wanna go for a Half-Elf for the power build, I won’t tell anyone.
Link’s alignment is tricky. On the one hand, he is shown kneeling before the monarchy, defeating the forces of evil and darkness, and doing odd jobs to help the common people he comes across. However, he can also start forest fires, break into people’s houses, smash pots, steal people’s life savings or personal belongings, and attack the chicken population until they attack back. I’d wager he’s Neutral Good if for no other reason than his morality is highly dependent on the player.
My first choice for Link’s background would be the Folk Hero for Animal Handling and Survival. However, Link’s background is so inconsistent, it’s easier to just list out the skills he tends to have and tell you to pick a background that has those skills, or create your own: Animal Handling, Athletics, Investigation, Nature, Perception, or Survival. There’s a case to be made for other skills as well. Acrobatics works a little and his jumps did involve sick flips in Majora’s Mask, but Link doesn’t tend to balance or platform jump very often. Link can play instruments fine and danced in the Subrosian Dance Hall in Oracle of Seasons for Performance proficiency, but he’s usually playing instruments to activate effects, not to actually perform for a crowd. Link shows some Stealth skills in Breath of the Wild, but this hasn’t been a longstanding skill of his, so I didn’t lump it in with his main skill list.
Tumblr media
Becoming a Hero
When it comes to his build, Link has made some use of spells in the past, but he’s nowhere near the spellcaster that Zelda and Ganondorf are. Link is definitely more of a martial fighter who augments himself with a wide arsenal of magical items. So when it comes to picking Link’s class, we have a few things to keep in mind.
Tumblr media
BARD
Link is a talented young man, and he has had magical instruments in a few games over the years, as well as dancing in Subrosia, among other things. While I don’t subscribe to the idea of Link being a bard myself, I understand why people would come to this conclusion, as Link isn’t really bad at anything... except talking. And lying. And looking threatening. Or haggling. Yeah kind of hard to depict Link as a CHA caster who isn’t proficient in any CHA skill checks.
Spirits (UA) This doesn’t fit for every Link, but especially for Breath of the Wild where Link gets help from the spirits of his fallen comrades, the flavor of calling on the dead works for Link. For a non-BotW example, maybe Link can tell stories of his past lives, and the memories he shares with each of them.
Valor This college has the downside of being built as a cheerleader, while Link really should be built for solo-combat since that’s how he approaches most fights. But Valor is better than Swords and also gives Link proficiency with martial weapons and shields, while Swords does not.
Tumblr media
FIGHTER
While there are many martial classes, the Fighter differentiates itself by being the most down-to-earth option. It’s not beholden to rage, or smites, hunting, or sneaking. It is the simple skill of the blade, and this is a skill Link has in spades. From the earliest games, Link has been a master of the sword, the shield, and the bow.
Battle Master Link is a strategic fighter. He looks for weak spots, and he exploits them the best he can. Of all the fighter subclasses, none is more clever than the Battle Master. Its many maneuvers resembles the numerous sword techniques Link has learned especially in the later games. Even in Smash, Link showcases how clever he is by being able to combine his arrows with his bombs and shoot a bomb arrow. To my knowledge, none of the other characters can combine their abilities like this in Smash.
Cavalier The subclass is poorly named, and was better in its initial name as the Knight, as that is really what this subclass is. It is the idea of the knight in shining armor. They can also be flavored as bodyguards, a traveling sellsword, or castle guards. So Link does not have to be glued to Epona to make use of this subclass. The main reason to want this subclass is the Warding Maneuver, as giving Link the chance to either block or reduce all damage he takes is going to seriously improve how well he can tank a hit, and help keep him in a fight longer.
Tumblr media
PALADIN
More than any other class, the Paladin actually stands for something. They fight for a value or a belief. They swear their life to a cause and are prepared to die fighting for it. Link works on a lore level as a Paladin. Especially when he’s dedicated multiple lifetimes to the same cause. Across every timeline and game over screen, Link has always returned and stood in defiance against whatever evil may come.
Ancients This oath makes Link sworn to the forces of nature, such as the Great Fairy, and protecting the balance and harmony of the light, life, and love against death, decay, and darkness. The Ancients Paladin is all about protecting the balance in the world and valiantly opposing evil wherever it might arise. It also has a druidic or fey aspect, which kind of works for Link.
Crown With this vow, Link serves the Hyrulian Royal Family. This makes Link the princess’ personal knight, and an agent of lawfulness, order, and peacekeeping in the land. While 5e has backed away from typecasting Paladins as Lawful Good, this is probably the most Lawful subclass one could pick, as it places the authority of the royal family above all else.
Glory Instead of being sworn to the light or the law, the Glory Paladin is the harbinger of the goddesses. They are flavored as legendary heroes of destiny, possibly being demigods or the personal errand boys of the setting’s pantheon. This subclass is clearly focused on being a frontline warrior, and the features make Link a true force on the battlefield.
Tumblr media
RANGER
Anyone who’s played Legend of Zelda knows that Link is very good at surviving. The games don’t tell you how to navigate the wilderness, Link just has to figure it out for himself. What’s more, Link may be willing to venture into the wilderness, but he’ll be hard-pressed to find many NPCs that far outside of settlements or cities. Yet what they fear, he thrives in. And it’s no wonder that this is the class most peole would assume for Link.
Hunter This conclave is the slayer of all things that threaten civilization. They can choose to be better at chipping away at one enemy, counter attack bigger monsters, or mow through hordes of minions with more ease by taking out multiple at a time. Especially at higher levels, this conclave excels at ripping apart Ganon’s forces with nary a golden curl out of place.
Tumblr media
ROGUE
The rogue doesn’t need to be a wanted criminal on the lamb. They can be a clever fighter with a variety of skills and a knack for evasion. That speaks a lot more to Link’s skill set than one might assume at first glance. It’s not a perfect fit for Link, but it’s really not that inaccurate either.
Inquisitive This roguish archetype is defined by being clever in combat, looking for weak points to exploit. They’re also much more observant, making them better at discovering clues or secret passages, or telling when they’re being misled. At higher levels, their ability to look for weaknesses can even increase their sneak attack damage. This especially fits some of the older games where boss fights were focused on using items to exploit the dungeon boss’ weaknesses, rather than hacking away at their health bar. In these older titles, Link was less of a straight up warrior and more of a clever trickster pulling off strategic victories.
Scout The Scout Rogue has heavy Ranger vibes, as they get free expertise in Nature and Survival, enhanced mobility, the ability to disengage from fights more easily, and at higher levels become masters of ambushes. This fits well with Link’s sneakier sniper playstyle that can be done in Breath of the Wild, as Link can take out entire camps without ever being seen.
Thief While Link is not a standard cutpurse, Link is a treasure hunter, a dungeon delver, and the jokes about him robbing the people of Hyrule and breaking into people’s homes doesn’t exactly help. The thief also gets to use more magical items, allowing Link to use things such as enchanted instruments without being a bard.
Tumblr media
WARLOCK
Link usually isn’t the hero of his own volition. He often starts his journey with Triforce of Courage, a source of power gifted by his patrons. It’s honestly a weak connection, but it loosely works, so I’m including it.
Celestial While this subclass is geared toward serving something other than a god, I don’t see any reason why a Celestial Warlock couldn’t serve the Triple Goddesses of Hyrule or even Hylia/Zelda directly.
Hexblade The most obviously martial warlock option, this is a good choice if you want to incorporate Fi into your character.
Tumblr media
Link’s Toy Chest
Hero’s Sword - Longsword (+1-3) Mirror Shield - Repulsion Shield Hero’s Bow - Oathbow Gale Boomerang - Storm Boomerang Fire Rod - Wand of Fireballs (requires spellcasting) Mastersword - Sword of Zariel, Holy Avenger Longsword* Hylian Shield - Shield of the Hidden Lord  Goddess Bow - Ephixis, Bow of Nylea Golden Gauntlets - Gauntlets of Ogre Power Zora Tunic - Cloak of the Manta Ray Pegasus Boots - Boots of Speed Hover Boots - Boots of Levitation Hook Shot - Rope of Climbing
Tumblr media
SIDEKICKS
Sidekicks are a new edition from Tasha’s that let Link bring allies on his hero’s journey. Experts are skill monkeys who focus on Help actions, Spellcasters dip into the INT, WIS, or CHA spell lists, and Warriors are trained to fight and don’t have to talk, so they can be animals.
Epona - Defender Warrior Riding Horse Navi - Expert or Healer Spellcaster Sprite Sidon - Attacker Warrior Merfolk Sheik - Expert Noble (Elf) Wolf Link - Attacker Warrior Wolf
Tumblr media
Theros Piety
The Piety System from Theros lets us be devout to a god and earn features from worshiping them. As far as I’m aware, this is an optional feature, and not every DM will make use of these, but if you’re able to, here’s a handy guide. These gods really stood out as the clear choices for Link to go with.
Iroas - God of Victory
Domains: War Virtues: Achieve a great victory, Overcome slim odds honorably, Defeat a foe in single combat, Perform a great feat of strength or skill Sins: Being a coward in battle, Beat an honorable foe through deceit, harm innocents Piety Bonus: +3 Learn Compelled Duel spell +10 Learn Crusader’s Mantle spell +25 For 1 minute, creatures cannot gain advantage on you +50 Increase STR or CHA by 2 to a max of 22
Keranos - God of Storms
Domains: Knowledge, Tempest Virtues: Solve a riddle or puzzle, defeat an unwise enemy, plan ahead for an upcoming challenge, build or restore a temple to Keranos Sins: Jeopardize others through foolishness, ignore a wise course of action, fail to plan for a challenge, give in to anger or self-destruction
Piety Bonus: +3 Add 1d6 lightning damage to melee attack up to INT mod turns. +10 Reroll a failed INT or WIS saving throw +25 Advantage on Initiative rolls +50 Increase INT or WIS by 2 to a max of 22
Nylea - Goddess of the Wild
Domains: Nature Virtues: Help any wild animal, stop those who hunt for sport or profit, win an archery competition, slay an aberration, fiend, or undead Sins: Kill an animal without reason, Dedicate a building to or make a sacrifice for any god (including Nylea), protect a city from a natural disaster
Piety Bonus: +3 Learn Hunter’s Mark +10 Learn Speak with Animals +25 Attacking creatures must pass DC 15 WIS save or change targets. +50 Increase DEX or WIS by 2 to a max of 22
Tumblr media
Cunning Tactician
Battle Master Fighter (12) Inquisitive Rogue (8) Fighting Style: Dueling Maneuvers: Brace, Disarming Strike, Feinting Attack, Parry, Precision Attack, Riposte, Sweeping Attack Tools: Thieves’ Tools, Mason’s Tools
While Link is brave and strong, he is most defined by his clever mind and unorthodox solutions to boss fights. With this class split, Link has prioritized strategy and tactics over everything else. While it leaves him a little squishier, Link is still a very capable warrior. As a Battle Master, he got a free tool proficiency. Mason’s Tools allows Link to find secret passageways in stone walls, which most dungeons tend to be made of. On top of that, with his Feinting Attack, Link can give himself advantage, meaning he can use Sneak Attack even in a 1v1 fight, which fits his solo adventurer playstyle.
Tumblr media
One-Man Army
Battle Master Fighter (12) Hunter Ranger (8) Fighting Style: Dueling, Archery Maneuvers: Brace, Disarming Strike, Feinting Attack, Parry, Precision Attack, Riposte, Sweeping Attack Hunter’s Prey: Colossus Slayer, Multiattack Defense Tools: Mason’s Tools
I used this build once in a level 10 campaign. 6 levels of Fighter, 4 levels of Ranger with a +2 Longsword, and let me tell you something. This build creamed the competition, which was the other PCs at the table, who were also built as level 10 characters. Link nearly defeated his first opponent in a single round, dealing around 70 damage between his four attacks. When I say this is Link’s “power” build, I mean it. I didn’t even sweat when an adult blue dragon showed up after the tournament ended, that’s how much faith I had in Link’s ability to fight. I honestly forgot to even use Link’s battle maneuvers, he was just dealing so much damage that it slipped my mind. You could swap Battle Master for Cavalier, but for me, the Battle Master is more accurate to Link’s favor of techniques over basic hack-and-slash.
RANGER SPELLS
1 Absorb Elements, Ensnaring Strike, Hunter’s Mark 2 Cordon of Arrows, Healing Spirit
Tumblr media
The Hero of Hyrule
Battle Master Fighter (12) Glory Paladin (8) Fighting Style: Archery, Dueling Maneuvers: Brace, Disarming Strike, Feinting Attack, Parry, Precision Attack, Riposte, Sweeping Attack Tools: Mason’s Tools
As a Glory Paladin, Link is driven by a desire to be a legendary hero, and at least in the UA version, the Glory Paladin served the gods, as Link does. Like the two builds above, Link balances the brute might of the Glory Paladin with the tactile diversity of the Battle Master.
PALADIN SPELLS
1 Cure Wounds, Divine Favor, Guiding Bolt, Heroism, Protection from Evil and Good, Searing Smite, Thunderous Smite, Wrathful Smite 2 Branding Smite, Enhance Ability, Find Steed, Magic Weapon, Warding Bond
Tumblr media
Oaths and Promises
Glory Paladin (12) Celestial Warlock (8) Fighting Style: Dueling Pact: Blade Invocations: Eldritch Smite, Improved Pact Weapon, Maddening Hex, Relentless Hex
The builds from here on are more for the flavor than necessarily Link’s character. As a Blade Pact Paladock, Link becomes a CHA-focused martial with some extra spell slots that turn his smiting sword strikes into a bokoblin slurry machine. This build focuses Link more as a servant of the gods than anything else. Just make sure he has the Hex spell, but you can replace Maddening Hex with Agonizing Blast if you want to use the Master Sword laser beam at full potential.
PALADIN SPELLS
1 Divine Favor, Guiding Bolt, Heroism, Protection from Evil and Good, Searing Smite, Thunderous Smite, Wrathful Smite 2 Branding Smite, Enhance Ability, Find Steed, Magic Weapon, Warding Bond 3 Blinding Smite, Crusader’s Mantle, Elemental Weapon, Haste, Protection from Energy
WARLOCK SPELLS
C Blade Ward, Booming Blade, Sword Burst 1 Armor of Agathys, Cure Wounds, Hex 2 Lesser Restoration, Misty Step, Shatter 3 Spirit Shroud, Summon Fey 4 Galder’s Speedy Courier
Tumblr media
To Serve and Protect
Battle Master Fighter (12) Crown Paladin (8) Fighting Style: Dueling, Interception Maneuvers:  Bait and Switch, Brace, Disarming Strike, Goading Strike, Parry, Riposte, Sweeping Attack Tools: Mason’s Tools
Link is Zelda’s knight, bodyguard, and servant. So this build prioritizes features that makes Link the loyal emissary of the Princess of Hyrule. As such, this build changes Link’s role to be more of a defender to the princess than a solo hero. This build assumes that the princess or someone else who needs to be protected is joining Link on his adventure.
PALADIN SPELLS
1 Command, Cure Wounds, Divine Favor, Heroism, Compelled Duel, Searing Smite, Thunderous Smite, Wrathful Smite 2 Branding Smite, Find Steed, Warding Bond, Zone of Truth
Tumblr media
After all is said and done, I hope I gave everyone a lot to work with. Of course my suggestions are not law, and if nothing else, I hope it gives you an idea of how you want to build him. Last time I built Link, I gave one set build for him, but I still laid out other options. Recently though, I’ve been trying to show multiple builds at the end of my build posts to offer a wider idea of what building a character can look like. Happy 2021 everyone, and let’s hope this year goes smoother.

I believe in Pipit supremacy and here is why.
Sorry it’s so long lol it’s worth it tho. even if you disagree
Also sorry abotu not updating Just Shut Up, Diamond Pants!
PLEASE INTERACT WITH THIS POST! GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS! TELL ME THINGS THAT I MISSED!
In Skyward Sword, the Hylian’s didn’t have access to mining, so their only metals would have been the leftovers from before Hylia raised Skyloft into the sky. Metals would have been extremely rare and important, and most metals were used to create swords and shields for the knights. Which is why I think Pipit is more important to the Skyloftian community than the game lets on. Pipit is wearing chainmail, which is made out of metal. Metal, which I have established is rare. So clearly Pipit is an important person, to be allowed CHAINMAIL. Add in the fact that Pipit won the Wing Ceremony the year before Link, so he is clearly skilled and has a sailcloth. Pipit has only just finished his senior year in knight training, but he has special armor that his instructors don’t? He’s definitely been set apart. I think Pipit is very close to his loftwing, as evidenced by his name being a species of bird. Now, this could mean nothing, but it probably isn’t just a coincidence. I believe that Pipit really likes birds. Now why is this important? I believe that Pipit’s bond with his loftwing is like Link’s bond with his, stronger than most, and special. When you consider that loftwings were essentially a gift from Hylia, I think it is at least somewhat logical to presume that those with special bonds are blessed by the goddess. Now, if Pipit is such an amazing knight, the chosen representative of the hero in the Wing Ceremony, and blessed by the goddess, that is incredible! Especially since he accomplished that without a father, and being the sole provider for himself and his mother. Now, onto my next point. The master sword and the demon sword. (that’s what I call Ghirahim) So, I think Ghirahim was created to balance out Fi. I think the Golden Goddesses have to focus on keeping the balance quite a lot, which is why the Triforce of Power is often on Evil’s side. Therefore, it is not farfetched to believe that Ghirahim balances Fi. Now, why am I bringing them up when this is about Pipit? Well, in order to wield Fi, you have to a) be the hero, and b) be pure of heart. In order to make the hero pure of heart, Fi cleanses them of evil and creates a dark version of them which they will have to defeat. They can wield the sword without defeating their dark self, but they will have to defeat it at some point. Now, the very first hero, the one before Skyward Sword, did not have to fight an evil version of him. (I know it seems I’m getting off track, but I’m not) Because the first hero was already pure of heart, as proven by his actions and behaviors, even toward those who wronged him, and his desire to save them. Now, his spirit became the Hero’s Spirit. The spirit that is passed down through the heroes. So every one of his reincarnations may or may not have had to fight their dark self, in order to strengthen the Hero’s Spirit, which is supposed to be pure of heart. Now, who do we know and love who is very pure of heart, proved by his actions toward the one who wrongs him, and his desire to always help whenever he can, often volunteering/overworking himself for his mom? Pipit! Now, Pipit is not the hero, and cannot hold the master sword without consequences. But you know what other powerful sword is out there that is needed to balance out the master sword? The demon sword! I think the initiation of ‘prove yourself good enough for my blade’ for the demon sword will probably be something more like ‘kill a living being with my blade’ and not ‘I’m gonna purge the evil out of you exorcism style good luck’. And my last point, the Triforce. Now, Skyward Sword Link gains the whole Triforce and uses it to defeat Demise. BUT! In later incarnations, the Hero almost always has the Triforce of Courage, and the Princess the Triforce of Wisdom, and Ganon the Triforce of Power. So, after Link used the Triforce, what happened? We know the power of Hylia is passed down through Zelda’s bloodline, so Zelda must have obtained the Triforce of Wisdom after the fight. We can presume Link has the Triforce of Courage, and that leaves the Triforce of Power. Where did it go? It could have gone to Impa, or Groose, but it might have gone to Pipit. Now, Groose makes more sense for it, since he does seem by his build to be a strong, heavy hitter type fighter. And Pipit does seem more light on his feet, like a bird. But I think the Golden Goddesses choose where the Triforce goes, and I think they would look at Groose and just say ‘He’s not ready for a Triforce.’ So then why would that give it to Pipit? Well, I have more thoughts. Hypothetically if Link were to die, and not save Zelda, who would be most likely chosen to take his place? Pipit. Simply because he is pure of heart and courageous and all that crap. Fledge wasn’t even in the Ceremony, so he still needs time to learn, Groose was not the right fit, and neither were Cawlin, Strich, or Karane. The closest you can get to Link without being Link is Pipit, especially since he is so skilled. And if Pipit were to be chosen, and save Zelda, he would gain the Triforce of Courage. He wouldn’t be reincarnated though, since Link was already chosen to be reincarnated by Hylia when the first Link defeated Demise, before Skyward Sword. IN CONCLUSION, we have established that Pipit is a very skilled swordsman and knight, he is dedicated, he won the Wing Ceremony, he was chosen to represent the first hero in the Wing Ceremony, he is pure of heart, self-sacrificial, and incredibly caring. I believe that if the Golden Goddesses needed someone to hold the Triforce of Power, he would have been their choice. I believe that if someone needed to wield the demon sword, he would have been chosen. I believe that if Link died, he would have been second on the list of candidates. And I believe that Pipit is a precious loving cinnamon roll who deserves the world and a little bit of family therapy to heal his relationship with his mom and their unresolved problems about his nonexistent dad. PIPIT IS MY SON AND I LOVE HIM! PIPIT SUPREMACY! PIPIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN HYRULE WARRIORS NOT AGITHA! BIRD BOY IS MY FAVORITE!

So, with the help of the wonderful @wandering-horizon, I came up with a Legend of Zelda / Linked Universe AU where every Link is a Zelda species that isn’t Hylian So here’s what I came up with and how it influenced their respective stories
Sky - Rito
When Skyloft was raised above the clouds by Hylia, the Rito were already there
The Rito helped the Hylians get accustomed to life above the clouds and the two species quickly came to rely upon each other
Link is born a Rito and grows up on Skyloft, where things are pretty similar to the original story, he is best friends with Zelda and studies at the academy to become a knight
When Zelda disappears beneath the clouds, he draws the goddess sword and follows her
Things continue on quite the same way as in the game, just with Link wielding the sword with both his "hands" and foot claws, because him flying around and cutting down enemies at the same time is just really neat
He also pecks out one of Ghirahim's eyes at one point because he can
Four - Minish
I've had this headcanon, that the Hero of Men, the one before Four who made the picori blade, was actually a Minish who came through the Minish door (which transformed him into a Hylian for the time) to protect Hyrule
So yeah, basically that
Link is Ezlo's grandson who is also an apprentice with Melari and when Vaati goes rogue he helps his grandfather in defeating him
I imagine him being really confused by being so tall at first and that he still retains some Minish like traits
Time - Kokiri
Link is an actual Kokiri in this, with Navi as his fairy
His life in the Kokiri forrest is pretty peaceful, though Mido still bullies him, because he's best friends with Saria and Mido is jealous, until the Deku Tree calls for him
The Kokiri Emerald allows him to leave the forrest unharmed and so he goes to help Zelda
The rest of the story is pretty much the same, except that he doesn't age when he goes into the future, because he really is an immortal forrest child this time around
Let's just say that Ganondorf is pretty angry about being beaten by a 9 year old
At the start of Majora's Mask when Skullkid steals the ocarina and Epona, he also imprisons Navi in a bottle
Tatl is kind of shocked about that and that plus the fact that she can sense his Kokiri nature result in her trusting and liking Link much sooner
Link manages to free Navi when he gets back his ocarina and from then on it's another adventure, this time not just with his mom but also with his newly acquired older sister Tatl
Twi - Twili
His story is quite different from the one in the game
With him growing up in a completely different world and such
In the beginning he lived a relatively simple life, getting by by doing odd jobs for other people
When Zant staged his coup and started turning helpless Twili into Shadow beasts, Link tried his best to help people escape in time
Zant really didn't like this and sent the beasts after him
Not wanting to fight his people, he ran, stumbling onto the portal to Hyrule
Eventually, Zant caught up to him and tossed him out into the light in the hopes of killing him
Instead of dying, Link is saved by the triforce, which transforms him into a wolf which let's him survive in the world of light
He knows he needs to defeat Zant before the usurper can destroy both Hyrule and the Twilight realm and so he sets out to free Hyrule from the Twilight
The light spirits give him their protection and with the master sword he gains the ability to keep his Twili form even in the light
Of course he also travels with Midna, though he meets her later in the story
Also he obviously knows who Midna is, since the name and the vast amount of magic she possesses is kind of a giveaway
Legend - Zora
He's a sea Zora, so he's different from the rather mean ones in his Hyrule, since their tribes lost contact a long long time ago and he looks more like an ocarina of time Zora
A pink one
He washes up at the beach one day when he's still a tiny little kid and a Hylian man (his uncle in the game) takes him in and raises him
He has to deal with a lot of crap from people because he's Zora and most Zora in his Hyrule just really like spitting fire balls at people
It's also why people don't believe him when he goes out to help Zelda and say he's kidnapped her instead
As for Kohilint, the storm hits him when he's out looking for his family and Marin is also a Zora
He ends up being afraid of storms at sea after that whole debacle and just kind of avoids the ocean after it
Hyrule - Fairy
What can I say, he's the original fairy boy after all
He's not just a regular fairy though, but a very young great fairy, young enough that his usual form isn't that different from a regular fairy
However, he possesses a lot more magic and even has the ability to grow to Hylian size for a time, enabling him to wield sword and shield and fight the various monsters and Ganon
One of the reasons he travels so much is the fear of being bound to a single place once he's grown up, being a great fairy and all and he wants to see all much of the world as possible before that
Wind - Korok
He lives in the forest on outset island and is best friends with Aryll
Once Tetra shows up and Aryll gets kidnapped, he decides he needs to go out and save her
So he asks Aryll's grandma for the sword and shield (grandma is kind of surprised since it's the first time she's ever seen a Korok and she wasn't quite sure Aryll didn't just have an imaginary friend) and sneaks onto Tetra's ship
She discovers him, being able to see him even when he doesn't want to be seen, triforce of wisdom and such, but she's so impressed by him being able to sneak onto her ship that she lets him stay
He has fun with the crew, flying over Nico's obstacle course with Korok magics, and infiltrates the forbidden fortress
From there on it's much like in the original stories though everyone is really surprised and shocked that a usually peaceful forest fairy can wield a sword with such devastation
Needles to say, Ganondorf is even more surprised when he's stabbed in the face this time around
Wars - Gerudo
He's Gerudo, he's trans and he's here to end Ganon's whole career
He isn't a Hylian soldier in this but a Gerudo warrior and the first part of the war takes part without him
Which also means that it isn't going too well for the Hylian forces and Ganon revives way faster
The Gerudo haven't dealt much with the rest of Hyrule for many decades, but they take the return of Ganon in the form of a Gerudo as a personal insult and immediately join the war, turning the tide, especially with War's proving himself to be an unrivaled warrior as well as the hero
Wild - Sheikah
With all the Sheikah tech in his game it only makes sense
Before the calamity, he was Zelda's personal bodyguard, the way Sheikah often are for the royal family
Him and Zelda got along pretty well, having known each other for a long time, but they sort of drift apart once he draws the master sword, as Zelda envies him for his easy his destiny came to him, and he kind of struggles with the burden of the whole world, as his life was kind of all laid out for him before the master sword
Once the calamity strikes everything goes pretty much the same way, but his interactive with the yiga clan are way more intense this time around, because he's a Sheikah as well as the hero
So yeah, there you have it, my personal Zelda AU
I hope you like it

ALBW One-Shot: The Sword and the Shadow
Heya, so more writing stuff! This one is technically finished but prolly needs edits.
To summarize, the spirit of the Master Sword meets with a lad with her master's face on one late night.
As usual, if this is too hard to read, here's the G docs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Pjs3LhclohUslR_ZQ55N1y8qQ3nZ640EJgn_5c-6HSg/edit?usp=sharing
ALBW: The Sword and the Shadow
Night lay deep on Hyrule, the late hour quiet except for the occasional rustle of the grass. Ravio peered outside and sighed in relief – despite his fears, none of the monsters patrolling outside had ever thought to come inside the houses of Hyrule. Whistling to his only companion, his pet bird named Sheerow, he proceeded to lie down on the dusty rug, the only comfortable place to rest on. It wasn’t always so – a few days ago, it was the neat and cozy home of a blacksmith’s apprentice. Ravio had changed that, and the former home was currently devoted to being an item shop. Not that it looked much like a shop - the display tables formed a rectangle, but most of them were empty, displaying only a few placards which proclaimed most of the items were on rent. Only a Fire Rod was left, sparkling in the lamplight.
Though he should have happily dozed off, Ravio felt rather restless and try as he might, could not get himself to feel sleepy. With a sigh, he realized he had to do something to pass the time. The only problem was there wasn’t much to do when there are monsters outside and your only companion is a pet bird. Looking around the house, the Fire Rod caught his eye, and with a huff, he stood up, expecting little more than a quiet night polishing the magical item. Ravio was just picking up the wand to dust it off when he heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Instantly alert, he clutched the Fire Rod to himself and anxiously peered out of the window. A warm glow came up the hill on which the house stood, and in a few moments a slight figure limped its way up the slope. Ravio perked up and immediately returned the Fire Rod to its display table, before eagerly bustling off to the front of the house to welcome his only customer. The door had barely opened when Ravio did his usual greeting.
“Hello, Mr. Hero!” Ravio chirped, sounding a bit like Sheerow.
“Here to rent -?”
But he stopped short in surprise. Garbed in green and with a sword in hand, the Hylian named Link looked like a hero straight out of the legends, but a very exhausted one. The hand he was using to carry a lantern was shaking slightly, and aside from the usual dirt from his adventures, a nasty cut was also on his face.
“Need to sleep,” Link groaned, limping into his home.
“Hang on, let me just, uhh, dig out your bed,” Ravio said, looking around at Link’s furniture, which he had wildly pushed to the walls to make the space for his shop.
“This will do,” Link mumbled, lying down on the rug. He just about placed his sword back into its sheath before he collapsed into sleep. Ravio gasped and hurried to his side, and was relieved to see Link breathing – in fact, he was already snoring.
“Phew, you scared me Mr. Hero…” Ravio murmured. Checking once more to see if the Hylian was truly, deeply asleep, he felt confident enough to remove his mask. Without the distinctive rabbit hood, Ravio could almost be mistaken for the youth sleeping on the floor. From the shape of their eyes, the same pointed tips to their ears, and even the way the hair fell down their faces, they were incredibly alike. There were only two differences: while Ravio’s hair was the purple of falling dusk, Link’s was the gold of noonday sun, and though the Hylian’s eyes were closed at the moment, his eyes were blue to Ravio’s green. Perhaps it had something to do with the worlds they lived in, and Ravio sometimes wondered if he too, might have had golden hair and blue eyes if he had grown up in a world filled with light. He shook the thoughts away and stood up. He went to the roughly stacked furniture and scrounged for a blanket, before returning to Link’s side and sitting down again. Sheerow landed on his shoulder and gave a curious chirp, making Ravio smile.
“Of course, we only look alike, Mr. Hero and I. The similarity is only skin-deep, but it would frighten anyone to see someone look much like themselves. I suppose he’ll only want to see his own face in a mirror,” Ravio softly said to Sheerow. With a sigh, he pulled on his hood again, wincing at the stuffy feeling of having it back on his head. With his face hidden away, Ravio then gently draped the blanket over Link, but on noticing the sheathed sword still within Link’s hand, he paused. It was definitely new – the sword Link had been using was a plain old sword, sharp and a good blade, yes, but nothing remarkable, especially when it was tucked away in its nondescript brown scabbard. This one was sheathed in a beautiful blue scabbard, richly decorated with gold ornaments, with the holy symbol of the Triforce prominently featured. The hilt of the sword was all that was visible, but it was certainly anything but ordinary. The hilt was made of a crystalline material, carved into the shape of wings that jutted away from the blade. It was enough for Ravio to recognize that this was the legendary blade spoken of in Hyrule - the Master Sword.
Awed, he couldn’t help himself from going closer to gaze at it. Even without knowledge about the history of Hyrule, Ravio could tell that this sword was sacred, meant to banish evil. Scarcely daring to breathe, he reached out to touch it, thoughts careening wildly in his mind. With a sword like this, maybe, just maybe, he could…he could do…
Nothing. Still nothing, because I’m only a coward.
The thought came like a splash of icy water, and Ravio flinched, fingers stopping short of touching the sword. A bitter frown formed on his face – while very unwelcome, the truth still held fast, and that truth was that he was a coward at heart, and he knew it. Only a coward after all, would have fled and left a princess when she needed him most…he was no hero. With a sigh, Ravio dropped his hand, his fingers brushing against the sheath of the sword.
In the next moment, a blinding flash lit up the inside of the house.
Ravio yelled in surprise and threw up his arms to shield his face. It was a dazzling silver light, and it burned his sight much like the sun of Hyrule has burned him when he first came through the chink between worlds. But as quickly as the light had come, it faded, and sensing this change, Ravio carefully lowered his arms and blinked away the spots dancing in his eyes. As soon as his senses cleared, he was aware of Sheerow making an alarmed racket next to his ear. He rubbed his eyes and looked again, and realized why the bird was behaving so strangely. With his heart hammering away at his chest, Ravio scrambled back, his mouth open to scream, but sadly, his voice got stuck somewhere in his throat and would not come out.
There was an intruder in the house, and she was definitely a cause for alarm.
For starters, she was floating in the air, close to the ceiling. The sight reminded Ravio of the Great Fairies that were scattered across the land, but she had no wings at her back. Also similar to the fairy folk, she was very beautiful. Her face was young and smooth, her blue skin glowing with a metallic sheen. She was clad in the colors of the sky and dusk, her fluttering robes fit for royalty, richly dyed purple and blue, and threads of gold running through her dress.
For all her beauty and regal air, however, she also looked frightening.
“Ahhh…aaargh –!“ The pieces of a scream started to come out of Ravio’s mouth, but a voice cut across the sounds of his distress.
“Please refrain from creating noise,” the voice instructed in formal tones. Ravio saw the spirit’s mouth move, and he supposed only she could have spoken in such a voice – it sounded like a girl’s voice, but also otherworldly, echoing as though she was speaking from the end of a tunnel.
Ravio's voice, on the other hand, decided to crawl back into his throat and cowered there, and he ended up just shutting his mouth and scooching away. Sheerow perched on his shoulder and stayed there, trembling occasionally.
The spirit looked on curiously, and satisfied that Ravio seemed to have quieted down, she floated down until her feet touched the ground, just beside Link. At that sight, Ravio was about to stand up, a sudden feeling of protectiveness coming over him. He couldn't let Link be harmed by this spirit - he was the only hope for their kingdoms (as well as his only source of business.)
But before Ravio had even shifted his weight, the spirit sat down, neatly folding her legs under herself. She also draped part of her cloak over Link's sleeping form, and though her face hardly changed, Ravio thought there was deep fondness in her eyes. Her gestures and mannerisms - Ravio sensed a devotion in them, of a bond that had been forged long ago.
"What is your relation to my master?"
"Huh?" Ravio asked.
"What is your relation to Master Link? You share his home and your auras are very similar," the spirit said.
"I…I'm Ravio. I guess…I'm like his counterpart in this world," Ravio said. He briefly pulled his hood away to show the spirit his face. She did not look fazed at all to see Ravio's face, and only nodded her head in acknowledgement.
"Processing information…processing complete. You are not of Hyrule, but of a world also created by the Goddesses. Greetings, Ravio. I am Fi, servant of Master Link, spirit of the Master Sword."
"Servant…so you've been looking after Link here?" Ravio asked.
"Only very recently in this life," Fi replied. Ravio got goosebumps - the way Fi said it, he could only guess how many times she had performed this role. "I am sworn to serve my master, in any age that evil wakes to threaten this land,” she added.
“So...you’ve done this before then? Save Hyrule?” Ravio asked.
“Yes,” Fi answered simply.
“Then - then please -” Ravio came closer, aware of the desperation in his own voice.
“Please - save my own kingdom. No - save my princess,” Ravio said, bowing his head so low that his forehead touched the ground.
“I couldn’t do my duty to her. But you - and Link - you can do what I couldn’t. Right?” Ravio said, raising his face to look at Fi in the eyes.
“Once, long ago, I failed my master, and Hyrule fell to ruin. I cannot guarantee that it will not happen again,” Fi said. Ravio got a lump in his throat and fell silent.
“Any time we face down the dark forces against Hyrule, my master faces a 90% chance of failure. It is the same situation now.” Fi looked at Link’s face, a master she had grown to truly love over the ages. And with that love she had also felt his pain, and now, she felt hurt to see him wounded and in danger.
“But even with the low chances of success, I will do my utmost to prevent the same downfall,” Fi said, her words gaining an edge as sharp as her blade. Then she looked at Ravio, her eyes still blank and expressionless but somehow it felt like she was looking through him.
“If you are to prevent what you fear the most, you must act,” Fi said.
“But if I can’t find the courage to do so…” Ravio said, lowering his head.
“Then, act with love.”
Ravio looked up, his words trailing into a stutter of surprise. The spirit of the sword, a legend who had endured countless ages...her lips were unmistakably curved in a warm, fond smile. It was a sight that no one, save Link, had ever seen.
And the sight of her smile reminded Ravio of long-ago days, when the princess he loved did not yet bear the burden of saving a fallen kingdom...
“The hour grows late, and you will need strength for days to come. You should also get sleep,” Fi suggested. Ravio started, not realizing that he was lost in thought.
“Oh, but-”
“Do not worry. I shall keep watch,” Fi said. She stood up and floated over to the window, humming a lonely melody. Ravio blinked - it was like all his exhaustion caught up with him all of a sudden, and he lay down, his mind clear of all worries. He didn’t know what he was meant to do yet, but...he shut his eyes and slept, dreaming about light for once.
Alone, Fi looked out into the night, and when a curious Sheerow perched on her shoulder, she did not mind.
-------
“Up and at them, Mr. Hero!”
Link groaned and sat up, rubbing his eyes. He knew he heard a wonderful, familiar song in his dreams, but he couldn’t quite remember it…
“Breakfast?”
A warm and sweet aroma perked Link up, and he looked to see Ravio pass him a tray, on which there was a bottle of milk, still-warm bread and apple slices. Link looked down at the tray and then up again at Ravio, and his wonder must have shown in his face because Ravio put up his hands.
“Ooh, surprised? Well, so am I! I was only looking forward to some apples for breakfast but a really nice lady passed by and left this food. I think she said she was the Blacksmith’s wife? Anyway, she said it was for you for finding...Gunney or someone,” Ravio explained in a chirpy tone.
Link’s mouth watered - he hadn’t had a proper meal in forever, it seemed, and barely had Ravio finished when he tore into the food.
“Whoa, adventuring sure gives you an appetite huh? Anyway, you’ll be going out again, yeah?” Ravio said. Link nodded, crumbs sticking all over his face.
“...well, take care, you hear me?”
Some time later, Ravio repeated the sentiment as Link was heading out, and the Hylian cocked his head at him, puzzled by Ravio’s behavior. Sure, he was pretty cheerful, but laid-back, and Link wondered why Ravio was being positively sunny. Shrugging it off, he walked out, not seeing Ravio wave cheerfully at his back - or the Master Sword twinkling briefly as they set off on another journey together.

Fanfic WIP (chapter 1 pt. 1)
Okay so I had an idea a while ago that was kinda dumb. Basically, it went, “what if the hero of men from minish cap was actually a woman” and then I began brainstorming ideas for it and it accidentally turned into a big ol’ emotional story with like, ideas on trauma and love and courage and stuff.
So, uh, IDK how to tag this so I’m probably not going to do much, but basically here’s the plot: Link is a woman who is gay and traumatized and avoiding her destiny, and then through forming relationships with other people she’s able to gain the courage to face her destiny.
It’s basically all original versions of zelda characters / original characters in the zelda universe, so uh, yeah.
A version of Malon and Talon make an appearance, and this first part is narrated by a Nonbinary picori called Ezle. Have fun I guess???
Oh also Hyrule in this version is hella suspicious of magic and stuff because reasons
I’ll share more info as it becomes relevant I guess
A cursed woodland is home to many strange and unusual things, but the strangest things of all are the people who live there as though it is normal. A witch you could expect. Fairies and monsters flourish in cursed places. Even the mysterious Picori, with their strange magic and tendency for generosity, are normal guides for the few children that wander into their lands. But a Hylian who lived amongst the woods as though they were their home? That was strange.
And yet, that was Link. A Hylian woman who treated the cursed Minish Woods as though they were the coziest mansion to exist. She was a strange one, to be sure. Stranger than the witch who lived in the swamps to the north. Stranger than the fairies who fluttered about their fountains. Stranger than the monsters who stalked the forest at night. Stranger than even the Picori.
There were many things that would make Link strange to a passerby, not the least of which was the way she dressed. Link rejected traditional Hylian womens-wear in favor of a comfortable green tunic. On her back, instead of a scarf or basket, she carried a sword and shield. Instead of sandals she wore boots, adorned with magical symbols. Her hair was long, straight, and pulled back in a high ponytail, a shocking style for more traditional Hylians. On her wrists were a pair of bracelets that seemed to boost her power. A bow and quiver of arrows hung from her belt, and at her hip was a bag far too small to carry even the simplest of tools necessary for woodland survival.
But the strangest thing about Link wasn’t her clothes or her hair or her gear. It was her magic. Few Hylians have a natural magic about them. The little they do have is mostly that of a homely nature. The kind that makes a meal taste incredible or gets a song stuck in your head. The few Hylians who can wield magic in a traditional sense are members of the Royal Family, whose princesses can channel their divine ancestry into powerful weapons of light, so long as the tradition is not forgotten.
Link’s magic was not like those of other Hylians. She did not have the impressive power of the royal family, nor the homely comfort common to other Hylians. It was everywhere about her, from the way she walked, to her speech, to the way she used a sword. It defined everything about her, down to the thoughts she had in her head.
And yet, despite her magic being so innate, not even her closest friends had seen her use it freely.
Ezle the Picori had known Link since she had, years ago, wandered into the Minish woods by accident. It was Ezle who led a sobbing Link out of the woods and back to civilization. It was Ezle who first sensed Link’s innate magic. It was Ezle who began to teach a young Link all about her destiny, and it was Ezle who gave Link a home when no-one else would.
Ezle was a master craftsperson and loremaster amongst the Picori. They were among the first to sense the growing darkness in the world, and they were the one who forged a way to stop it. When Ezle met Link, they crafted and enchanted two magical items. The first was a sword, which granted any Hylian the ability to shrink down to the size of a Picori. The second was a box, granted to the royal family. The sword and box were linked, somehow, but Ezle refused to say how.
“The time will come,” they answered when asked by a young Link, “The time will come when you will wield that sword against evil, and your destiny will be fulfilled.”
Only now, Ezle feared that time would never come.
“Put more spin into your spin attack,” they said as Link swung her sword in a  slow, wide arc for the third time in a row, “The attack is built on momentum, without it you leave yourself vulnerable to enemies.” And you need to put your magic into it.
Link glared at Ezle and put down her sword. Ezle was training her in the Minish woods, a moment of quiet from the bustling everyday that was their home in Picori Town. She was nearly eighteen years old now, and had been avoiding her destiny for years.
“I don’t see the point to this,” She said, “I’ve been practicing the spin attack all day. Isn’t there anything else I can do?” Ezle shook their head.
“You need to master the spin attack,” they scolded, “It’s crucial to facing your destiny!”
Link sighed.
“I know, I know! But like, maybe if we worked more on my agility or-”
“No!” Ezle answered sharply, “A sword wields no strength unless the hand that holds it has courage. Courage is crucial to your destiny!”
Link rolled her eyes. “I know I know, it’s just- I don’t understand. Isn’t facing monsters and temples courageous enough?” “Courage is not the lack of fear, but continuing despite it,” Ezle reminded her. And you are more unmoving than Death Mountain.
With an angry sigh, Link went back to practicing her swings. Ezle watched her, concerned for their protege. What is blocking your magic? They wondered as Link completed another, lackluster attack, What are you so afraid of?
Ezle’s ears pricked up at the sound of horse hooves. In these woods? They listened harder. Yep, definitely horses. Without a word to Link, they scurried through several bushes to an old, abandoned road. There, they saw a Hylian cart, pulled by a young, strong horse, and leading an old milk cow. Driving the cart was a young redheaded woman with a determined face, and in the back was a young man who could easily have been her twin brother. They were carrying a bunch of crates, bundles, and boxes, as well as several pieces of what looked to be furniture or farm equipment.
However, Ezle’s observations were distracted by Link’s appearance in Picori form.
“What is it?” Link asked, before noticing the cart and frowning in disgust, “What are they doing here?”
“They, as you put it so disgustingly, are your kind. You’re supposed to be saving them,” Ezle scolded. Link glared at him.
“I know that,” She answered, “But they’re not supposed to come in these woods either, are they?” Link looked back at the cart, and her gaze drifted up to the people driving it. As Link looked, Ezle noticed a change in her expression. Her disgust softened and the faintest hint of a smile grew on her face. As Ezle pondered the change in their pupil, they noticed a faint glow in Link’s eyes. They were, just barely, brighter, more alive, more free. Magic!
A grin spread across Ezle’s face as they recognized the change. Then, their grin widened, as an idea came into their head.
“Come on,” they said, hopping down onto the road the cart was travelling on, “Let’s see what they’re up to.”
Link hesitated, and the magic began to fade from her eyes as fear took hold of her face.
“I- I don’t know,” she said, “I don’t- wouldn’t it be-”
“They don’t have to see us,” Ezle reassured her, recognizing the source of Link’s fear, “Nobody but a child would be able to see you in this form. Besides-” and here Ezle felt the need to fib, “-there are a few settlements of town Picori I’ve been meaning to catch up on. This will give us a chance to do that.” There were no “settlements” of town Picori, as Ezle knew well, but the lie seemed to give Link the motivation she needed to join Ezle on the road.
“Alright,” she said, “Just to see what they’re up to.”
Ezle smiled, and after some difficulty with catching the moving cart, the two were on their way through the forest and into the wider world of Hyrule.

Random thoughts.
So i replayed BOTW a while ago for the first time and decided to write down some of the random thoughts that i get while exploring Hyrule, here they are.
… A lot of these things gave me some fanfic ideas and I hope that they will do the same for someone more competent.
It's realty in character that the response to being asked why you took the man's torch is either to bludgeon things to death with it or to be a pyromaniac.
When the tower pedestal shines, Link instinctively leans back for a second before diving right back in because curiosity kills the cat.
The message from the slate/tower is to watch out for falling rocks which either means that
1: zelda is writing them (and has a fair bit of free reign still).
2: the ancient Sheikah could see the future.
3: Ai to the likes of Fi.
Ganon kinda reawakens when the towers are up so maybe he was resting and building a body until he was interrupted here, which could be why his form later is such a hodgepodge of the Blights?.
Link is not too naive since he kinda clamps up in his answers to the totally unimportant old man.
Did Link briefly make eye-contact with the camera when he got the spirit orb!?
Link is a bit freaked out in his "How did you know!?" Response cas now he knows something major is up when the old man directly mentions the spirit orb.
Again, in character that you can choose to be an impatient brat with the "paraglider please?" Or inquisitive when Roam points out the slate.
Either run out of temper with the "that wasn't the deal!" Or be resigned with "so I need more now?" When the old fart sends you off to the other three shrines.
Ohh, another adrenaline junkie option with the "got it!" Over climbing the tower for a good view or a Deadpan "are you joking?".
"Or so i heard quite some time ago.. I do not know if it actually works as such" so they did not get teleporting to work before? or he just didn't learn how it was done.
So the monks, according to how the Triforce signs they held, apparently associate Power with Magnesis, Wisdom with bombs, Stability with stasis and Courage with cryonis?
The monks dissipate into green specks like Ganon’s soul does under the castle!
I'm not into men but damn if Link doesn't look good in the Warm Doublet.
Oh. My. God, he was King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule!!!!!
Link is such a dumbass, you get to ask Kass "are you a ...bird?" As if the man isn't standing right in front of you. No shit Sherlock! What next, is that a recorder?.
OhhohoHO! You either say "no(, i have not heard of them)" or "Ancient songs?" As if you do not initially realize why they are thought to be ancient which either is old memories warring with the now world or Link not realizing what impact The Calamity had on culture.
Another flat-faced sarcastic remark everyone!
When Manny mentions that his job is checking for beauties/sus people you can either be a dumb dunce and ask about the said beauties or a little menace with "sounds though".
Manny is an Incel, talks a big game and puts himself on top of a pedestal alongside being demanding and a creep.
Does Hateno not have a goddess shrine? Just the ~Evil~ one?
There is a pair of rusty knights sword and shield by the leftmost part of the walkway of Fort Hateno. Some knight probably died laying there, watching out over the field of guardians having been/being purged by Zelda.
A traveler (Chelessa) is interested in history and wants to question Impa about it, and is on her way to do so in fact. . Describes her personality as very pleasant, that must be wrong.
The Yiga know exactly how Links first waking moments played out so either they have extensive knowledge about his character and the setup of the Shrine Of Resurrection or Ganon was watching in on Zelda's call and relayed it to a minion in the clan.
"Hero boy" - derogatory.
Arrow in the eye of the bridge at the entrance of Kakariko, the Yiga are petty and I love it.
Piano's (the painter) hair bun thing that is styled like a pencil has paint on the tip... this man painted with his hair.
So the great fairy Cotera makes it sound like she will enchant your gear because you rejuvenated her, not because you bring the materials to do the enchanting.
The levels of enchantment seemingly depends on physical closeness to the Fairy (blow< indirect kiss< kiss < sex)
She can not enchant beyond Lv 1 without her sister's help, so they share power?
Paya specifies that they have watched over the Orb since the grandmother of the grandmother of Impa, that's 9 whole generations of long lived Sheikah! roughly 1000 years of recorded history!
Again with Link being a dense Shonen protagonist with "where is it?" Or a sly bastard with "really, though?"... maybe so that she would want to prove it ;)
…”I'll answer you some day, just not today!”
Either Paya is just not ready for that or she is so nervous that she did not think about the fact that her own grandmother was in the room when she said it!
“Served the royal family in secret” so it's not common knowledge that the royals have a village of Magic ninjas!? No wonder it took a damn demon to topple it instead of rebellion or infighting... probably has been like this since the old old king banished 'em.
"The royal family was destroyed, and the members of our tribe scattered."- okay so it was probably some Sheikah that either thought the royal family was completely extinct and either fled or, according to this next bit- "Sadly, there were some who swore allegiance to Ganon at that time. They joined together as the Yiga Clan, seeking out all who opposed Ganon... cutting them down, one after another."
So from that we get to know that not all Sheikah deserters became enemies (unless the Sheikah dislike defectors enough to hunt them down) and others who either joined an existing opposing group or simply up and created the Yiga clan that then aligned itself with Ganon... probably under either the belief that Hylia's line was extinct and that it was join or die or because they wished to spite the goddess and her followers.
I actually like this way more because it makes no sense that the Yiga could survive before the Calamity when the Royals would have an entire damn country and anbu black-ops to hunt them down with.
"Master link, now that you are awake, you are surely the most formidable opponent standing against them!" Either hero worship or the Sheikah are freshly out on capable warriors with Ninja magic tricks, probably the latter which would explain why the world isn't infested with Lynels or why hynoxes haven't just trampled every settlement.
"No doubt they will come for you, employing whatever underhanded methods they can device"
oh come on! Do not tell me that i'm stuck with the goodie two shoe ninja clan!? Underhandedness is your bread and butter! No wonder you served the royals in secret because you and them by proxy would have been a laughingstock otherwise!!!
"The great fairy Cotera... few remain who know that this village was built under her watchful eye." So the village is fairy new and the Yiga came about before Kakariko or it is old and so well protected that they can't get in... at least not easily.
"The mysterious power of Cotera is that of sacred protection..." so the Great fairies are linked to either Hylia or the gods, good to know.
So it’s not that Cotera “-would be happy to help” but, instead “i can't think of any reason why she wouldn't be happy to help you”. so either she only directly helps men or the earlier "you can put your trust in the great fairy" means that she judges more favorably for the chosen hero.
"I heard that the weather is going to be beautifully tomorrow... to bad you won't be alive to enjoy it"
So they have weather accurate~ich prediction? through magic or old time methods?
Again: Hero boy - derogatory... It's a common nickname for Link within the Yiga.
The lush green shrine could tell that a buck was on it, so the platforms are most definitely scanners.
A travelers sword by a campfire at the foot of mount Lanayru, so someone either took a swim and died to the Lizardfo, dramatically quit or got killed in their sleep.
Love the effect when you have metal weapons on the ground and swing a ThunderBlade!
You automatically reflect the Octorock's rocks, goes faster if you do it manually.
There is a hollowed out part of a hill/mountain with a lot of fic potential to the North-West of the Sword by the campfire.
Located where the lines meet if you draw a line to the right from Rabia plain and up from Trotter's Downfall.
Koko of Kakariko has been deceived by my cunning and slight-of-hand.
Yes, Sagessa (woman by the lake of the Dueling peaks stable), there is, in fact, something "quite romantic" in Link's "endeavor" to save Zelda, thank you for noticing!
The chests inside the shrines can only (non-violently) be opened by use of the Sheikah slate so why not steal a few? prefect safe-keeping for more stuff to keep in Links house.
Dunce moment everyone!
The Yiga traveler tries to seduce Link and you either go with "OK..." so he either has no damn idea about what is going on or is just not good with women?
Orrrrr you go with a straight "I refuse!" cas you see through their ruse and want to rub their face in the dirt!
According to Mina the Hylian, taking out two Bokoblins is considered as great martial caliber which both she and her traveling companion could not do while decently armed.
Best way to deal with a guardian scout when you have weak weapons: hit with electricity, switch weapon, hit 2-5 times, switch to electric, repeat.
When you first enter the area around Hyrule Castle, smoke Ganon throws a fit until Zelda slaps him away.
This either means that Zelda canonically gets a larger workload from there on and out or that the both of them push harder against each other every time you get close.
According to Zelda's diary, Link was assigned as her guard after the champions had been appointed.
How Link was focused on her yet did not voice his thoughts apparently "makes my imagination run wild!". Either romantic or dense.
Link admits to staying quiet because of the pressure of being the boy chosen by the sword.
King Rhoam mentions that he decided to honor THE royal family's traditions by naming his daughter Zelda, and that he is "not a man accustomed to frivolous musings".
Basically confirming that he is not the parent of royal blood.
They probably knew about The Calamity for a good while cas the page after zelda's naming speaks of the fortune teller, probs 3-8 years since Zelda was described to already have vast interest in the relics.
Pikango gets up at 10 past 5, I spent the night watching him and Beetle sleep.
According to all known laws of aerodynamics, Rito should not be able to fly, is Revali's gale then just an absurdly strong variation of some kind of sky Arcanum that all Rito possess? Do all the races possess one as Well?
Slimes ate the Bokoblins in the tree base at the center of the west Hyrule fields.
Savelle is a helpful guy without a pension for violence.
Munk Shae Loya is just flexing on all the other Munks, those old farts need to sit down while he's been squatting on one leg the last 10'000 years.
Chork of the Tabantha Bridge Stable is drunk.
Toren is either naive or a simp for the Faireys.
If you have the Hylian hood equipped with no weapon while riding at max speed then your cape will flap.
"Sweet boy..." "...I see now that my first impression of you was correct. You most definitely are pleasant to look at."
So link has some kind of presence/soul-thingy that appears pleasant to mystical creatures? Might be the spirit of the hero or this link in particular.
The Fairy Kaysar makes Link blush! No player input needed! We’ve found one of his types!... either that or he's just shy.
The fairies almost never use normal materials to enchant, it's always either monster parts that don't dissipate or things that grow in magical arias.
The Sheikah towers are sturdy as all hell, the Tabantha tower did not even get a scratch from a giant fucking pillar falling on it.
Okay, am I just crazy or is a Lizardfo and a Moblin holding a class for 5 bokoblins just to the left of the Tabanta fairy fountain!?
Lester, the wise curry rice guy at Rito Stable, describes Link as sunny boy, another point to the soul/aura theory thingy.
Phontos laughs to hide the pain.
According to the story that Kass sings.
Calamity Ganon was the result of sealing the enemy at its source.
It fought not only the spawn of the Goddess and the bearer of the Spirit Of The Hero but also the army of Guardians and the Champions that piloted the Divine Beasts for quite some time, as implied in the "and the guardians protected them throughout every hour".
So what i get from this is that the attack 10 000 years ago was the first sighting of what we know as calamity Ganon.
It was also far stronger than the one that attacked 100 years ago which implies that that one was either a rush job or that Ganon bounds had been tightened, both of which would drive him to seek out other methods like corrupting the Guardians.
...And the Guardians are apparently powered by the ancient blue energy which was, time-line wise, first shown when the Golden Goddesses created the world.
No wonder that Ganon was capable of doing this since he most likely is running on fumes, spite and the power of the Triforce which likely is made of/channels said energy.
According to the rumor mill, you need the blood of the Hero in your veins to wield the Master Sword, if this is accurate then that means that Fi is sentimental or that Link has magic blood.
Wildberrys are fucking massive.
Genli (the salmon child) is a cunt, one kid was crying about someone Vah Medoh killed and then Genli is all like "no don't stop it, if you do then i have to go to class again!", She would fit right in with today's youth.
Monk Akh Va'quot has the best position so far, he is just done with your shit.
"You adventurers are Crazy" -> "you're right"
You get nothing if you melt all the ice by the Tabantha tower! You lose! Good day sir!
Monk Daka Tuss got bored during his self-inflicted quarantine and started stacking his arm bands.
Tula (the bathing Zora) said "wow either you are a Hylian or hideously deformed"
Phura has vandalized and mounted one of the spirit frog statues above her door.
Okay but the fucking noice that comes out of Bolson when you buy everything!! It's as if you just walked up and twisted his nuts with the power fit to shield block a Lynel’s charge.
Is the flower by Link's bed a Korok version of a Silent Princess?
The monsters of Hyrule are show to have interest in consumption based on three accounts.
1: the Bocoblins and the Moblins by Hateno bay steal cattle.
2: Hynoxes carry around warriors foodstuffs.
3: Moblins (or at least the ones by the camp near the Serenne stable/forgotten temple) have a resting animation where they dig through the dirt and stuff something down their goblet.
...not to mention that nearly every camp has a bit of meat roasting by the fire.
Koyin has joined the fan-club!
God, the Naydra snowfield is fucking loaded in chill-shromes!
Stasis is perfect for looking for ingredients in forests, just open it, look around and bam! No more hidey hoe.
Why no shiny text for hylia's statue!?
I really do not like that they changed Naydra's colors when the malice was removed, they were so cool and then bam! White! White is not the color for ice and cold!
When praying by the spring of wisdom you are facing Hyrule castle, the same with courage and power if my memory serves me right.
...The master Torch
The Katona Aug shrine is just fucking mini-golf, how is that meant to prepare the hero?! Imagine how that Monk goes to the afterlife and has to look his fellows straight in the eye and admit that he was so lazy that not only did he make the hero play golf, not only was he so lazy that he made the Hero play mini-golf, but that he was so lazy that he did not even make a course! It is literally just a straight line!
Robie wants to see Links scars to verify that he is who he says that he is, Robie was likely one of the ninja that took Link to the shrine of resurrection.
Oh and Robin has two interesting sketches in his lab, the first is a detailed graph of a Sheikah tower so those were likely known about long before Link activated one (the one closest to Robin would be the one covered in malice and guardians so he could not have gotten enough detail from that one).
And the other is a sketch of what I believe is either a tier 2 or tier 3 guardian scout. Now, how can Robin know how that looks if only Link can/could enter shrines?
The Sheikah shrine that has the Barbarian helm is located at the end of the Sinai maze, did they just plop the shrine down there and steal the treasure of the ruin to later present to the hero?
There is one usable room in the citadel.
There is no compendium slot for the malice eyes that litter Naydra, Hyrule Castle and the Divine Beasts.
You can change the element of already elemental slime, not just the neutral kind.
Those head-spitting fuckers inside the divine beasts! They are partially reanimating mobs! So it's not that the Blood Moon is the time where Ganon is at his strongest, it's just where he chooses to revive everything.
The edge of duality can also be found in the shrine at the top of the dueling peaks.

Zelda Wind Waker 2 Brief History
Wind Waker 2 was first teased in March of 2004 during a Game Developers Conference entitled “The Evolution of a Franchise: The Legend of Zelda. Eiji Aonuma confirmed the sequel in a timeline picture showing “Wind Waker 2” is being set for a 2xxx release. IGN would report on this and mention several times that a 2004 release was possible for the game. Eiji Aonuma would mention during this conference that more information about the Wind Waker 2 would be revealed at the upcoming e3 event.
E3 2004 would come, and a new trailer would be unveiled; however, it wasn’t a trailer for the Wind Waker 2, instead, it was for a more realistic Zelda game similar to Ocarina of Time.  The trailer seemed to fit the same tone of the Zelda Space World 2000 demo video which featured Link going one on one with Ganondorf in a sword battle. Fan reaction was electric to say the least as Miyamoto came out on stage carrying a replica of the Master Sword and Hylian Shield; however, where was the sea? Where was the King of Red Lions? Where was Toon Link? Well to put it simply, they were gone now.
During a presentation during GDC, Aonuma would speak about what exactly happened to Wind Waker 2. Here’s an excerpt from that presentation “Let me backtrack a little. As I was busy working on the connectivity project, it wasn’t as though the Wind Waker 2 project that I spoke of earlier came to a halt. Not at all. As some of you know, at E3 2004, we unveiled the game that would become Twilight Princess, the realistic Zelda game, and we announced that it was developed by the team that had been developing Wind Waker 2. Actually, there was a reason that that decision was made at the time. At one point, I had heard that even Wind Waker, which had reached the million mark in sales, had become sluggish in North America, where the market was much healthier than in Japan. I asked NOA why this was. What I was told was that the toon-shading technique was, in fact, giving the impression that this Zelda was for a younger audience and that, for this reason, it alienated the upper teen audience that had represented the typical Zelda player. Having heard that, I began to worry about whether Wind Waker 2, which used a similar presentation, was something that would actually sell. In addition, because we knew how difficult it would be to create an innovative way of playing using existing GameCube hardware, we knew what a challenge it would be to develop something that would do well in the Japanese market, where gamer drift was happening.
That’s when I decided that if we didn’t have an effective and immediate solution, the only thing we could do was to give the healthy North American market the Zelda that they wanted. So, at the end of 2003, I went to Miyamoto and said, “I want to make a realistic Zelda." Miyamoto was skeptical at first. I was so focused on changing the look of the game as being the solution we were looking for without coming up with a breakthrough game idea, and he advised me that “If you really want to make a realistic Zelda, you should start by doing what you couldn’t in the Ocarina of Time. Make it so that Link can attack enemies while riding on his horse using the Wind Waker engine, and make your decision based on how that feels." This is something that went against everything that the staff had been working on and I expected to come as quite a shock to the team. Surprisingly, my entire staff was enthusiastic about this change, and the project on which progress had slowed was given a much-needed jumpstart.
Four months later, development had progressed to a point where Link could swing his sword in battle against enemies while riding on his horse in a realistic looking environment. When it was announced as a surprise trailer at the 2004 E3, it received a standing ovation by the media audience. This was a very exciting moment for us, but we were still very much in the early stages of converting the game into something more realistic. We knew that we had to create a Zelda game that would live up to expectations of fans in North America, and that if we didn’t, it could mean the end of the franchise. But I also trusted the ability of the team, which was able to bring the game so far in just four short months, and Miyamoto and I announced that this Zelda would be released in the fall of 2005.”
So, the project was canceled and was converted into Twilight Princess. Toon Link would continue his adventures on the Nintendo DS hardware and things would be at peace. However, it would be revealed many years later that a group of game developers was working on pitching a version of Wind Waker for the Gameboy Advance. David Soliani, developer of Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle, another Nintendo game using first-party characters revealed in a Twitter post back in 2017 revealed that back in 2003 he and a fellow colleague were close to getting a demo version of Wind Waker on Gameboy Advance by their manager. The colleague mentioned was Fabio Pagetti. This is what Soliani had to say about the project "Long time ago, I guess it was the 2003, me and Fabio Pagetti (the artist who made the pixel art below) almost convinced our managing director to let us produce a demo for a GBA version of Wind Waker. No luck that time, but it was running nicely. We were dreamers,"
Nothing more has ever come out about Wind Waker 2 other than game developers wanted Link to be able to ride through Hyrule on horseback. This concept easily carried over to Twilight Princess which features an extensive amount of horseback combat. There was also talks of making an adult version of Toon Link to better suite the horseback riding mechanic; however, no footage of this has ever been leaked. As mentioned earlier, Toon Link will live on forever through the two DS titles he starred in; however, it’s always fun to think “what if?” when thinking of a direct sequel to the Wind Waker on GameCube.

Desired Fate, Chapter 5
Read on ff.net
Read on AO3
“Kill her...”
Zelda’s heart plummeted as the full weight of his words hit her, her world falling and crashing into a million pieces.
No! Wait...! She moved her mouth to protest, but no words came forth.
Zelda tried to take a step back only to find her legs were like lead. She tripped backward, falling into the shallow water.
The Champion imposters crowded her with swift precision, following their master’s order without hesitation. The dark Urbosa raised her scimitar. Zelda braced herself, squeezing her eyes shut. There was no one to save her. But even worse, she felt too numb to care.
And just as she resigned herself to this harsh fate, a blinding flash engulfed the forest, and the expected killing blow never came.
Zelda shielded her eyes, peeking out from between her fingers to see the Hollows writhing as they faded away.
Was that.... the spirit that lives within the sword....?
She shakily breathed out and looked around, the hooded man was looking at her with a shocked expression.
He turned to look at the sword, startled, “What?!”
Zelda was only vaguely aware as Link and the little Guardian came to her side, her knight having tracked her down with the little one in tow.
“Link?”
The knight offered her a hand.
“I’m… alright.” Zelda got to her feet on her own. The back of her pants was soaked from falling into the water. She grimaced in discomfort.
As Zelda stood, Link drew his sword and rushed at the hooded man, giving a shout.
“Link! Wait!”
“I won’t allow you to take that sword, boy.” The wizard threatened. Link cast a glance at the sword on the pedestal, still glowing as if beckoning for him to claim it. He tried to make his way to it, but it was clear the hooded man was intent on stopping him.
Zelda stood back, stunned. Link is... the hero?
The hooded wizard levitated the orb between his hands, summoning malice to rain down on the knight. Link ran to dodge it. The mysterious man countered, levitating himself as if being raised by some invisible force. He brought his knees to his chest, becoming one with the orb. The ball of energy rushed at the knight. Link flew through the air, landing hard on the dais. As the boy stirred he turned his head to see his standard-issue knight’s sword had been broken in two. Wasting no time, he got to his feet and pulled the sacred blade from its pedestal.
The hooded man sneered at the knight, backpedaling a few steps in hesitation before jumping back into the orb and flying at Link once again, in a rage. This time Link swung the sacred blade at the right moment, shattering the illusion. The wizard fell to the ground. The orb went back to its original size and shape and landed some feet away. The hooded man reached for it, but Link quickly kicked it further away and held him at sword point.
“You can’t kill me. I am fated to revive Calamity Ganon. My purpose isn’t complete.” There was a slight waver in his voice, that stirred something in Zelda.
She rushed to the Link’s side who was standing over the strange man.
“Who are you?” The Princess demanded.
“Well if you must know... Your Highness,” the man said coldly, “I am Astor, prophet of the Calamity. Lord Ganon selected me to bring this world to its knees,” he said defiantly.
Astor… His name is Astor… Zelda’s eyes met with his. His sharp yellow eyes were looking at her with disdain, but there was something else she saw. There was true terror in the man’s gaze, despite the coldness his voice projected.
Link held the edge of the sacred blade to Astor’s throat, threatening to apply dangerous pressure.
“Link, wait! No more... Please…” Zelda searched for an excuse not wanting to see a beheading right before her eyes. “H-he could be a valuable source of information on the Calamity if we take him alive.”
Link looked at her as if studying her expression. Her knight was unreadable to her and he said nothing in return. Zelda prayed she had come off as convincing enough. As the princess, she did have a sort of authority over him, and he was obligated to follow her orders, after all. So he didn’t protest.
As the knight was distracted, the prophet bolted upright and shoved past him, grabbing his fallen orb. Link moved to guard Zelda. The dome went up again, this time a hollow version of the hero emerged.
Astor glanced at Zelda, who was looking back at him over the boy’s shoulder. The two shared another long gaze. A conflicted expression crossed his pallid features. He hesitated and then pointed to the small Guardian which was some distance from Link and Zelda. “Destroy the Guardian!”
Zelda gave a small gasp, but before she could act, the manifestation of Link made fast work of the little Guardian, leaving it in pieces. Link moved to take down his copy, skillfully dispatching the Hollow with little effort, mercifully bringing an end to his doppleganger’s empty existence. The Hollow disappeared in a puff of red malice.
When Zelda looked back, Astor was gone. Zelda collected herself and breathed out in frustration as she approached the broken down Guardian, surveying the damage. Sure, It may have technically been a piece of artificial intelligence, but she’d begun to see it almost like a friend, having ascertained it had come from the future to protect her. It truly was her guardian. But what would become of her now? Without her sealing power did she still have a chance to stop the Calamity? She hung her head and shed a single tear.
There was a long moment of silence between the princess and the knight. She couldn’t read his expression, leaving her wondering what he was thinking - or worse what he thought of her. She held everything back, trying to project the same unreadable expression. It was the lowest she’d ever felt.
The silence was broken when the Champions found them.
“Zelda?” Urbosa came forward, seeing the broken Guardian at her feet. “Why would you wander away from the group? Are you hurt?”
“No, Urbosa. I’m… alright…” Said Zelda, still numb.
Urbosa looked down at the Guardian. “Oh my...” Urbosa sighed. “What should we do about this?”
Zelda thought for a moment. “.... Perhaps Robbie can repair it.”
“Ok Champions. You heard your Princess. Everyone help carry as many pieces as you can.” Urbosa said as a way to lighten the somber mood.
Everyone complied and no one complained. Not even Revali.
Zelda collected a few small screws and gears, putting them in her pouch connected to her belt.
oOo
They were on their way back to Hyrule Castle. Zelda sighed as she shielded her eyes from the setting sun. A few paces ahead of her was Link, Master Sword at his back.
Already Link has gone from an ordinary knight to the one destined to wield the sword that seals the darkness. Yet, I’m still in the same rut I’ve been in all my life. And now… It’s like I’ve got a target on my back because of this cursed power I can’t even use.
In her mind’s eye, the moment replays again and again. “Kill her.” His voice had been so dark, so cold, and so full of hate.
I’m such a fool… His image must have appeared on the Sheikah Slate as a warning, and I...
She felt tears threatening to break forth. She raised her hand to her face. And then she felt everyone’s gaze on her.
She stopped in her tracks, and her voice wavered as she spoke. “How can I… If I am unable to awaken my inner power…”
Urbosa came to Zelda’s side with concern in her eyes. “Okay everyone, let’s take a break.”
Everyone broke off and began to congregate in small groups. Urbosa pulled Zelda aside.
Zelda took a deep breath. “Link… He’s become so much stronger.” That was just the beginning of her troubles. Urbosa didn’t need to know anything beyond the obvious.
Urbosa smiled knowingly, “And yet, I have not. I presume that’s what you were thinking, hm?”
Zelda nodded. “More and more monsters have been appearing lately. It is a sign that the Calamity draws near. So there isn’t much time. And still, no sign of my power awakening…”
“Yes, I understand your frustration, but perhaps it is self-defeating to compare your progress to Link’s.” Urbosa turned her attention to the young knight, who was some distance from them being showered with praise by Daruk and some Hylian soldiers. “He… is the same boy he was before acquiring that sword.”
One of the soldiers held a plate of rocks. Link took a rock in each hand and wolfed them down without a second thought.
Urbosa gave an unsurprised cluck of her tongue. “He will rise to... any challenge with no hesitation. That’s all there is to it.”
Daruk laughed. “Well done, Little guy. Eat up!”
Zelda grimaced, feeling queasy.
Urbosa smiled at Zelda. “But I know that you too are capable of rising to any challenge. Look how hard you’ve worked to get this far.”
“But I’ve been trying all these years, and nothings changed….”
Urbosa went quiet for a moment, looking more saddened. “I know, little bird. I was there… I haven’t forgotten all your struggles. But I have faith that you are where you need to be and everything will unfold as it is meant to. You must accept that too.”
“But it isn’t… It isn’t in the slightest...” Zelda was reeling. Everything felt out of sorts and very wrong. “Excuse me, Urbosa….”
Before Urbosa could protest, Zelda walked away as fast as she could. It was all too much to bear. Her head was spinning. She was about to lose control of all her anxieties and distress she’d been holding back. She broke into a run, and as soon as she was out of sight she vomited.
oOo
“Is that the Sacred Blade I see?” King Rhoam stood up from his throne on the second floor of the sanctum.  “Link, I’m very pleased it was you. Now I have divine confirmation that I made the right decision in choosing you as Zelda’s knight.” The king looked so pleasantly surprised he mercifully didn’t seem to notice Zelda’s disheveled state.
But Impa did.
“Your Highness…” Impa rushed to the Princess. Urbosa held a comforting hand to Zelda’s shoulder as she gave a nod to Impa.
“I’m fine, Impa. I just got a bit ill on the way back.”
“Thank you, Champions. You have done your duty well, and as a result, Hyrule’s hero has been discovered… There is only one last thing required to oppose the Calamity.” Rhoam looked to his daughter.  “Oh… Where is that little Guardian? It’s usually always at your side.” Rhoam asked, which threw Zelda. He really was in an exceptionally good mood.
“Broken… Regretfully...”
“Ah… That’s unfortunate...” King Rhoam offered. His voice was not unkind. He even sounded a little disappointed and she wondered why.
“I’ll take it to Robbie and Purah first thing tomorrow for repair,” Zelda said, numb. Impa gave her a much needed gentle push towards her chambers.
“Link, Champions, I’d like you to join us for a celebratory dinner.” King Rhoam continued.
Zelda headed to her bedchamber, taking care of her disheveled state. She washed her face, undid her braid, and brushed her hair, before changing into her royal gown, one of her waiting maids stepping in to assist her in tying and lacing up areas that required an extra set of hands. The dress was exquisite, but truth be told, it limited her range of movement.
Zelda took her seat in the dining hall at a long table opposite her father. Link was to her left and seemed to acclimate to the formal setting quite well despite eating rocks with reckless abandon just a short time before. Impa was seated to her right. The Champions were further down the table, closer to Rhoam who exchanged pleasantries with the Champions. Daruk, Revali, and Urbosa dominated much of the conversation. Mipha was more reserved.
“You know, Mipha was just tellin’ me the other day how she believed Link would be the one who could wield the sword,” Daruk mused out loud to the whole table.
Mipha looked flustered, but then the Zora princess composed herself and said sweetly, “Daruk, I told you that in confidence.”
Daruk laughed. “Oh… Sorry. And yet, you were right. You should own it!”
“Is it my understanding that you and Link have been friends since childhood?” Rhoam asked, trying to make polite conversation.
Mipha stiffened at the King’s question. “Yes, that’s correct.” She smiled serenely at Link. The boy looked up from his meal, acknowledging the zora princess.
“It has been such a pleasure to have you join us for another meal after all these years, Chief Urbosa. It is deeply unfortunate that the queen could not be here to see this day.”
“Indeed… I think of her every day,” Urbosa replied. “Zelda looks so much like her. Now more than ever. The queen was about the same age Zelda is now when we first became friends.” Urbosa glanced across the table at Zelda, giving her a reassuring smile.
“Zelda, that’s your favorite cake and you’ve barely touched it,” said Impa, the royal aide showing concern in her voice.
It was true, she’d been kind of picking over it with her fork. “I’m quite full already…”
“It’s just unlike you to turn down fruit cake.”
“I can’t take another bite. I might get sick again…”
“Okay. Okay. Say no more.”
The dinner was winding down, and King Rhoam spoke in an official tone. “ We will hold a ceremony to honor the Champions in three days. Zelda, it will be your duty to handcraft the sacred blue garments for each of the Champions, including a tunic for Link.
Zelda closed her eyes, holding back a sigh. She replied dutifully. “Yes, Father. I’ll get started on them right away.”

Things I want to see in Breath of the Wild 2
Things I want to see in Breath of the Wild 2
1. Weapon to return to the B button
I never really liked how the weapon went from the B button to the Y button. The weapon button being on B in almost all of the Zelda games gave a sense of consistency and stood out against the other open world games that have the weapon set to the Y button. Personally, my favourite controls are the ones used for Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. The Stamina button could be placed on one of the shoulder buttons, allowing certain items (such as Iron Boots) to be equipped to the Y button.
2. Return of Heart Pieces
I always loved the side quests that gave Pieces of Heart as the reward, it made the game world have purpose of be explored, the chance of finding a Heart Piece made the players want to explore and find those precious items that will make them stronger. They could introduce an equivalent item for the Stamina Wheel.
3. The different weapons to have a maximum of one indestructible item each
Something I came to dislike was the Master Sword and the Hylian Shield breaking, when in the previous Zelda Game, Skyward Sword, the Shields had a durability system, but the Hylian shield was indestructible. The thought of having one weapon that doesn’t break would allow there to be a sense of permanence to them. To keep players from sticking to that weapon, they could have other weapons of the type have perks that the indestructible weapon does not, like firing more arrows at once.
4. Making the Dungeons mandatory to reach the final boss
One of my favourite games is A Link Between Worlds, since you can do the dungeons in any order, but you need to beat them to reach the final boss, it’s the same with the Original Legend of Zelda. I didn’t like how, in Breath of the Wild, players could go face Ganon right after beating the tutorial.
5. The ability to repair damaged weapons
You ever had a real nice sword, could do 100 damage with a single hit? Then it broke. When fighting a Lynel. And you died. The durability system needs to be rehashed because that scenario that I just gave? It happened to me. Really. Fighting a Silver Lynel and only needed to hit it a couple more time and then the sword broke.
6. Be able to dive under water
The only other time Link couldn’t dive underwater was in Wind Waker. The over world was beautiful, but I love swimming under water in Zelda games (a far cry from real life), but without the ability to swim underwater parts of the over world couldn’t be seen. Having the ability to dive would open up the over world and allow for the sequel to explore the same world, but new parts of it.
7. Return of traditional Dungeons
The Shrines were alright, the Divine Beasts left a lot to be desired, but the Final Trial was perfect, I’d like to see more dungeons that are like the Final Trial, but given an elemental twist to them, such as fire, ice, water, wind, desert, etc.
8. Having Zelda travel with Link
Breath of the wild was lonely without some form of companion, and no Horses and Wolf Link do not count because they can’t go in certain areas. Having Zelda travel with Link would make the most sense narratively, since they were together at the end of Breath of the Wild.
9. Reintroducing the Hidden Skills/Sword Techniques
The combat is terrible. There, I said it. Compared to past games, Breath of the Wild has little options for combat, especially when it’s compared to Wind Waker, Minish Cap, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, it would also allow for Link to grow in the game as he masters each sword technique to help him and Zelda further along their journey.
10. Giving Link a cookbook
What is the point of having the recovery system use food with different recipes that do different things, if you can’t have some way of remembering the recipes? If Link had a cookbook, the player would be able to remember if Hearty soup had radishes or truffles.
11. Allowing Link to roll while running
The stamina bar introduced a good idea, it opened a door for the Pegasus Boots to enter the 3D Zelda games, however, something that I found useful in past Zelda games was rolling, because it allowed Link to dodge anything that took a swipe at him at short notice. Rolling could be re-introduced when Link is targeting something but doesn’t have his sword out.
12. The Stables to become villages
The stables are basically already small villages, so they could expand around it and make some more areas around the stable as living accommodation for some of the other NPCs. Personally, I love the idea of stables becoming a community in their own right, with someone in charge of the area.
13. For some (or most) of the ruins of towns to be restored and inhabited by Hylians, etc.
If the village ruins are still in ruins in the sequel, then I will be upset. They could have Bolson and Company rebuilding the towns and villages one by one, so you beat on dungeon, a village is restored, and they move onto the next one. They could also be side quests, much like From the Ground Up side quest in the first game.
14. The ability to play an instrument
I enjoy playing instruments in Zelda games, namely because my first Zelda game was Ocarina of Time, the instrument itself gave a sense of wonder to the game, especially when they didn’t explain the origins of the instrument.
15. The Hookshot/Clawshot/Gripshot to return
Playing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess made me remember one thing; I LOVE the hookshot. I was a bit miffed when they didn’t include it in Breath of the Wild, but that was because of the climbing mechanic. They could re-introduce the Hookshot my having areas that you can’t climb to normally because the surface is too smooth, the surface isn’t there or because Revali’s gale would launch you up too high. I really want to see the Hookshot again.

Note
hm, im a pretty casual gamer and i probably wont be able to actually play any other zeldas since the switch is my only console. My favorite tone is darker but with bits of hope but i also like light hearted things! My fave thing abt botw was the characters, how every npc was unique and had a different personality. I also loved the champions! I also liked the setting, that they failed and now had to try again. I also liked Link!! I thought his character was great! i wanna know more abt him!
My heart of hearts is SCREAMING at you to watch a let’s play/full playthru of Majora’s Mask. You can’t really do “cutscene movies” with Zelda like a lot of other games because fully-rendered cutscenes weren’t a thing til BOTW (and... neither was voice acting, for the record. BOTW/AOC is the only zelda with True Voice Acting xD)
BUT Majora’s Mask ticks a lot of your boxes. It’s probably the darkest Zelda game but there’s a lot of bittersweet to it? The synopsis is you’re basically trying to prevent the end of the world in this one specific town, and along the way you get to meet every single person in the town and learn about their entire lives. All the NPCs have stories, incredibly rich ones more often than not, and they all operate on set schedules. So there’s a 3 day, 24-hour cycle and you can mess with time, and you see them doing the same things in the same places at the same times, consistently. It’s really cool!
It’ll grab at your heart but for me, someone who can’t really handle dark/depressing media, there was never a point in MM where I felt like the story was devoid of hope. Things seem very catastrophic and you run around wondering how you can stop something as big as the end of the world but the whole game just kinda feels like you’re laying in a bed with your loved one while bombs go off outside. I cannot explain the tone, but I think you’ll love it. Both the 3DS remake and the original N64 MM look really nice, but I think the N64 version has a bit of a leg up because the low-poly rendering makes the creepy bits of MM extra creepy in a way the 3DS doesn’t.
(This game is also a sequel to Ocarina of Time, but do know you literally do not need to know anything about OOT to play it. The game gives you everything pretty much immediately.)
If you like Link specifically I’d also say Skyward Sword would be a fun one for u!! It’s on the more Lighthearted side tone wise but it’s the game that gives Link the most personality. He’s intended to be a blank slate because the idea is to project yourself & your motivations onto him (they named him for this, he’s the link between the player and the world) but a few times they’ve veered away from that and decided to kinda give him his own feelings and thoughts.
Skyward Sword is about the first Link ever really. Back in the timeline before a lot of Zelda Lore would come into play. And instead of living in this vast, sprawling kingdom, him & Zelda are just childhood besties about to graduate high school. The game literally opens up on their equivalent of, like, prom night sfdgfsghgf.
But what’s cool about Skyward Sword is that because Link has this incredibly emotional connection to Zelda right off the bat, he spends the game pretty much frothing at the mouth intent to protect & save her once the Plot kicks in. There’s never a scene in the game where you can’t see everything he’s feeling painted directly on his face, which is not actually that common for other Links! The chemistry between him and literally every other character really thrives because of this. While some people probably enjoyed the freedom to make their own interpretations of Link, in Skyward it’s really clear what his relationships with everyone are, and you get to learn what kind of person he really is much more easily than in, like BOTW where you have to go digging through diary entries to find out anything about him.
Skyward Sword, being the first chronological game in the timeline, also just has a lot of awesome lore for the franchise as a whole. Like you get to see where the master sword comes from!!!! its actual origin!!! and you get to learn about why Link and Zelda and Ganon keep getting reincarnated and living out this same battle in more or less different ways throughout the ages. You get to learn stuff you didn’t think even mattered, like why there’s a red bird on the Hylian shield, or why Link wears that stupid green outfit in other games. You get to learn wtf Zelda was talking about in BOTW when she talks about the sword “having a voice” and “speaking to her.” Lots of cute stuff to set the tone for the series.
my LAST recommendation is Twilight Princess but the conundrum here is I HAVE NEVER BEATEN THAT ONE because every time I try I just can’t get into it. but do not let my trepidation steer you away it is very much a Me Problem, TP is widely considered one of the best Zeldas of all time. It, like Majora’s Mask, is darker-toned, and from what I can tell has a Pretty Emotive Link as well who has a whole life in the tiny village he starts out in, so I think you’ll probably like that one too! I just cant do my long rambling about it dfghdfghfggf
ANYWAYS hopefully this helps. skyward sword & twilight princess have  pretty comprehensive “cutscene movies” but you really gotta watch an LP for Majora to get the full scope of the game. Majora is ALL about the sidequests. If you want reccs for who to watch I’m always gonna say Chuggaaconroy because the respect he gives to the games he plays & their tone is unparalleled & also he’s autistic so you know you’re getting infodumping about the lore at every fucking turn which I LIVE for.
I am so happy you’re enjoying Zelda and hopefully this ask inspires you to dive in!!!! Remember there’s no wrong way to do it! These games are made to be accessible at any point haha. Keep me updated if u want, I’m super excited to learn what you discover!

http://www.zeldainformer.com/the_entirely_valid_completely_believable_theory_of_a_tetraforce/
In Zelda there is a theory called the tetraforce theory.
The triforce is made up of three yellow triangles. The three triangles represent wisdom, power, and courage. The Hylian Shield in Ocarina of Time, however, has a fourth triangle below the triforce symbol. THe shield is illustrated above. It was hypothesized that this fourth triangle was the fourth force in the triforce. We see, thereby, the quaternity principal at play. The three is becoming four, or at least there is a different fourth component that does not seem to belong.
The number four is significant in Zelda. The prominence of the number four in Zelda leads “tetraforce conspirators” to believe that there is a fourth part of the triforce.

The Assassin's Creed poster shows the assasin in cruciform.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4X
The term "4X" originates from a 1993 preview of Master of Orion in Computer Gaming World by Alan Emrich, in which he rated the game "XXXX" as a pun on the XXX rating for pornography. The four Xs were an abbreviation for "EXplore, EXpand, EXploit and EXterminate".[1]
Explore means players send scouts across a map to reveal surrounding territories.
Exploit means players gather and use resources in areas they control, and improve the efficiency of that usage.
Expand means players claim new territory by creating new settlements, or sometimes by extending the influence of existing settlements.
Exterminate means attacking and eliminating rival players. Since in some games all territory is eventually claimed, eliminating a rival's presence may be the only way to achieve further expansion.

This is my first Linked Universe fanfic so let’s see where this goes...
Basically: the new Hyrule is strangely familiar.
-<>-<>-<>-<>-
Familiar
The laser fired at a young man, no older than eighteen, right as it was about to hit him he redirected it back to the mechanical beast with a shield. The cloak worn by the man along with his hair flapped madly through the chaos.
The mechanical beast exploded and the man ran forward to search for parts.
A laugh filled the air
The man instantly looked on guard. He looked every which way trying to find the source of it.
“Where is he Twi?”
The voice changed. “Twilight?”
It wasn’t coming from the man. “Twi?”
“Twilight!”
Twilight jumped when Time placed his hand on his shoulder. Twilight’s breath felt short and his mind was still dazed.
Worst of all, he felt like he was missing something important. Something that he would die for, if only he could remember what it was.
“Pup, you alright?” Time seemed worried. A quick look ahead of him proved that the others were too. They were all staring.
Twilight looked back to the strange eight legged creature that seemed long dead and nodded his head. “Ye..yeah! Yeah, I’m..im good just… this feels so familiar.”
Time looked around for a moment. “Are we in your Hyrule?”
It was a valid question considering what Twi just said, but still…”No, I’ve never been here before.”
Legend threw his hands up. “Then where are we!?!”
“There can’t be another hero!” Warriors exclaimed.
“Uhh, I’m thinking there is.” Four said.
Sky looked at the long empty path ahead of them. “We can’t be certain until we find people.”
Time nodded, “Sky’s right. Let’s go.”
As they were walking Time gave Twi a look.
Are you alright?
I’m not sure.
I’m here for you.
I know.
Time nodded and the group continued their adventure.
-<>-<>-<>-<>-
Despite the many hours the group had been traveling they hadn’t been able to find a village.
Along the way, many more of those broken mechanical beasts could be seen and for some reason Twilight couldn’t shake the cold feeling he got whenever he saw them.
The heroes decided to call it a day and started to set up camp.
They somehow set up a fire(magic was totally not used) and Hyrule made the group a soup that was… not great. Or as Legend liked to call it, “One of my greatest regrets in life.”
Tired from the long day they all settled in for the night. Twilight said that he would take first watch. He was so lost in thought that he didn’t see the concerned look Time shot him.
Twi sat at the edge of camp and looked at the world around him. In the distance another ruined mechanical beast could be seen. He decided to keep an eye on it. There were small blue and white flowers beside him and, without even thinking about it, Twilight picked one up.
As he studied it his mind once again fell into a daze and before he knew it, Twilight had gone into another scene.
The same young man from earlier was sitting on the ground looking at the blue and white flowers. His hood was down and yet his face remained fuzzy, as if Twilight couldn’t quite remember it.
He looked at Twilight and somehow he knew that those eyes were sad. “This is a Silent Princess. They...they used to be endangered.”
The man gestured to the large group of flowers around them, “She'll Be so happy to see it.” He looked at Twilight in such a bittersweet way, “don’t you think?”
The scene faded and for some strange reason, Twilight’s chest hurt. The feeling of something missing was greater now. As if telling the hero that, ‘you have lost something of extreme importance.’ If only Twilight could figure out what it was.
The flower felt cold in his hands.
Out of nowhere, Time sat next to him and gestured to the flower. “What’s that pup?”
Twilight handed the flower to his mentor. “It’s a Silent Princess.”
Time studied the flower, “Do these grow in your Hyrule?”
“... no.”
Time moved his gaze from the flower to Twilight. “What’s going on Twilight? You seem… off.”
Twilight shrugged, not answering.
Time was silent for a few moments and Twilight was honestly worried that Time would force him to admit everything that still wasn’t making sense and hurt chest so much that he felt like he was watching a certain woman shatter a mirror all over again.
His mentor, however, simply sighed and said, “You can tell me when you’re ready just know that I’m—that we,“ he gestured to the sleeping group behind him, “are here for you.”
Twilight smiled as Time patted his shoulder and returned to his bedroll. It didn’t make sense and it honestly terrified him that something that felt so important was slipping from his mind’s grasp, but they, the heroes, his friends, they would be there.
The hero of Twilight took a breath and continued his watch.
-<>-<>-<>-<>-
They set out the next day in search of a village that could help them find the new hero.
Twilight walked from the back of the group and once again searched the area. Those mechanical beasts were showing up less and less, which eased Twi’s nerves.
The group walked for a few hours, trees slowly started to show along the plains and they continued walking until in the distance they saw smoke. Smoke and… a village.
The group cheered and immediately started to head in the direction of the town.
The village wasn’t too large and looked relatively new. People walked and talked to each other and a few stands could be seen selling various items.
Twilight and the others looked at everything and once again that strange feeling of something returned.
An old man walked towards the heroes. He wore a smile and said, “Hello travelers! Welcome to Hateno!”
They all mumbled greetings and Time spoke, “Do you think you could help us find someone?”
“Why sure!”
“You may know him by the name Link.”
“Link? His house is just down there.” The man pointed slightly away from the village.
“House?” Hyrule whispered.
Wind leaned towards Hyrule, “I don’t get it either.”
“Thank you.” Time told the man.
“No problem, though, he may not be home. He’s always going off someplace with the queen.”
“Queen?” Four asked.
The man nodded, “Yes, our queen Zelda. She was only released from that beast a few months ago, and soon after she was made queen and she has been traveling with Link to rebuild the kingdom.”
“I see… thank you.” Time said.
The group left for the house of the new hero.
Wind bounced along, “I wonder what he’s like. Do you think he can cook?”
Legend laughed, “Yeah right, if he’s anything like the rest of us then cooking is a complete disaster.”
Wind stuck his tongue out at Legend and they all, except Legend, laughed. It wasn’t long after that they arrived at the hero’s house.
“Should we knock?” Sky asked.
Time, instead of answering, decided to knock on the door.
Silence.
“Hello?” Warriors called.
No reply.
Four kicked a rock, “Guess he’s not home.”
Twilight stared at the house. It was...familiar. It felt as if all his answers were at the top of his thoughts, if only he knew what they were.
The young man threw his door open and ushered Twilight inside. His face, like before, remained fuzzy. The house was small, but homey. There was furniture and kitchen and stairs.
“What do you think?” The man’s voice was hoarse, like he didn’t use it often.
Twilight studied the inside of the house and gave a simple nod of approval. A large grin grew on the man’s face.
“Great! Now how ‘bout I make supper…”
“Twilight?”
Sky some softly and with a warmth that most of the group didn’t have. “Are you alright? You spaced out on us again.”
A quick glance showed the others talking in a small group while constantly looking at him and Sky. They seemed to be asking Time about it, but of course the man didn’t know.
“Yeah… I’m fine.”
Sky didn’t look sure, but he didn’t push.
“Do we know where this new hero is? Because he’s not here and none of us has a map or any clue of where we’re going.” Legend said.
The group was quiet before, “I think I know where he is.”
Twilight wasn’t quite sure why he said that, but he didn’t find himself regretting it. The others stared at him.
Warriors scoffed. “Twilight how could possib-“
“I just do! I need you all to trust me in this.”
They were silent.
“I trust you pup.”
Twilight had never felt so thankful to have Time. The others eventually murmured agreements and once again the group was off to find the hero.
-<>-<>-<>-<>-
It was a few days later when they arrived at a broken castle. Everyone was horrified at the ruins, villages, temples, homes, and countless other things seemed to have been destroyed. Even Time seemed disturbed.
Legend gaped. “What the-“
“Language!” Sky interrupted.
Legend rolled his eyes, “what makes you think I was going to curse?”
“Experience.” Everyone deadpanned.
Legend grunted but otherwise stayed quiet. Twilight continued to lead the group into the castle.
The inside was broken and full of destroyed belongings. Yet, the master sword started to glow.
They all stopped and waited for Sky to listen to what Fi was saying.
“She...she says he’s near.” Sky said.
Legend rolled his eyes, “Well that’s handy, why didn’t we use her to find him?”
No one answered.
Instantly, they all started to scan and search the rooms they passed until they made it to large doors. Faint voices could be heard speaking.
Twilight was sure that the others could hear his heart race. The voices… they felt so painfully familiar. He took a few steps forward.
As they drew closer, the voices suddenly stopped. The group of heroes looked at each other and hesitantly Twilight knocked.
The hero must have hit harder than intended because the doors slowly slid open, revealing the room.
All that filled the room was a stool, two capes, and… hair?
Time and Twilight both walked into the room, but before they could take more than a few steps a blade was held to each of their necks. Well… a blade and what seemed to be a pair of scissors.
A young Hylian woman who had half of her hair chopped off was holding a sword to Time’s neck. The other, a young man, was holding a pair of scissors to Twilights.
Twilight watched as the young man who held the scissors studied the group. He saw how the man’s eyes instantly took in the weapons, armor, and magic items they carried.
Despite the fact that two of his comrades were literally at blades edge, Sky Asked, “Is that the master sword?!?”
Immediately, everyone noticed that the sword the young woman was wielding was indeed the master sword.
The young woman sent a quick glance to the young man and they both removed the blades from Time and Twilight’s necks.
Her eyes were cold and narrowed, “What do you want?”
Her voice was young and Twilight just knows that he knows her voice. It was at the edge of his brain...
Time held his hands up in a peaceful gesture, “We only want to talk.”
She studied the eight of the heroes while the man watched for any sign of violence.
The woman once again glanced at her partner and it almost felt as if they were having a silent conversation.
Throughout this, Twilight couldn’t help but stare at the young man. He, like everything else in this world, seemed familiar. Especially those eyes, blue, kind, intelligent, and… sad. The pair's eyes seemed so horribly sad.
It made sense, their world was literally in ruins. The ashes seemed to be etched permanently into the world.
And then the man’s eyes met Twilight’s and it all clicked. Memories of the past(future?). All the nightmares, battles, adventures, and dreams. It all made sense now.
Twilight remembered having to watch as Link went into the ruined castle to free Zelda and defeat the calamity. He remembered feeling so proud as he watched the two Hylians embrace before disappearing.
Before he could even think about anything Twilight breathed, “Cub.”
Both the Link and Zelda’s eyes snapped to the hero and he saw recognition flare. Zelda nudged the champion, “Is this him?”
Instead, Link stared at Twilight, “You always show up when I need you, don’t you?”
Despite the confusion that the other’s felt, Twilight responded, “Well this time we kinda need you.”
Zelda sighed and pulled Link’s sleeve, “Come on. If we’re going to get some life changing revelation you may as well finish cutting my hair.”
Link rolled his eyes and walked back to where Zelda was now waiting.
The seven heroes left stared at Twilight.
“Care to tell us what that was about?” Time asked.
Twilight glances to the two young adults in the other room. “I’ll tell you later, but for now let’s just say we have history.”
None of them seemed satisfied with the answer, but they didn’t have time to push it further before Zelda was calling them in to explain everything.
Time sighed, “Fine. But you will explain later.”
Grinning, Twilight nodded and they all went into the room. It was great to have his cub back.

Song of Communion
[part 1] [part 2] [part 3] [part 4] || [AO3]
sorry this one doesnt have as much volink but :^) ive written a good chunk of the next few chapters ahead of time
Volga was right when he had predicted that Link would have to adapt to any situation and learn to harness the power of magic.  It took a few tries to point the flames that were bottled up within the fire rod in his hands, but in the heat of battle he learned to at least point it away from himself.  Their current mission in Faron Woods would end in failure if he had set the entire forest alight.
With word of a "small" horde of monsters headed to the castle and their previous squadron dwindling down to only a handful of men left to ward them off, Link and Impa joined in the fray alongside the last of their forces.  They learned quickly that they weren't the only ones fighting off the horde -- a blue-haired spell caster had taken charge before they had arrived, simultaneously taking out wave after wave of Bulbins here and there while tending to the injured.  The captain and general shared a doubtful glance between them; questions could wait.
The morale improved among Hyrule's soldiers with their leaders now fighting alongside them, and soon the incomprehensible number of enemies had dwindled down close to nothing.  Link held the fire rod in his hands with a tight grip -- it wasn't as effective as his white sword, but it proved to be of some use.  He made a mental note to thank Volga for the earrings later for sparing him the brutal fire magic that could have burned him, but quashed the thought to point the red sphere of the rod at the smiling stranger approaching him.  Impa took her place behind him, staring at her through narrowed eyes.
"My name is Lana, and I'm here to help!"  Her coy smile wavered as she looked to Link for a split second, unable to meet his eyes.  "And to warn you about Cia."
--
"Cia?"
Zelda tilted her head inquisitively.  She turned her gaze to her general and captain at her side for guidance, but they only offered a baffled shrug in response.  The Sheikah was hesitant to bring Lana back to the castle, but to deny any information could cost them the war that lingered outside of their borders.  Still, it didn't stop her from taking any necessary precautions as the silence among them broke with the rattling of Lana's bindings.  It made it difficult for her to properly curtsy before the princess, but it didn't seem to bother her.
"Yes, Cia!  She's a sorceress of tremendous power, but... she hasn't made it here yet?"  Purple eyes diverted from the trio's judgmental stares to look skyward at the ceiling.  She leaned her weight from one foot to the other, even going as far to do a little spin.  "I wonder why that is?"
"The witch was pushed back by the dragon that resides in Death Mountain," said Impa flatly.  Her stare turned cold; Lana moved around too much.
Their prisoner spun back around to match Impa's glare with a fearsome pout.  "Sorceress," she corrected through clenched teeth, but soon relaxed with another smile.  "It's surprising!  I thought he didn't choose sides," she mused out loud, eyes back up to the ceiling as she did another spin in her place.  The soldiers kept her chains taut as they could -- if she did another twirl, she surely would fall flat on her face.
"Volga still doesn't choose to align himself with anyone!" Proxi interjected.  The blue fairy flew away from Link's side to draw Lana's attention.  "We are lucky that Link has come to an agreement with him!"
"An agreement?"  The blue-haired girl blinked owlishly at the words -- even she knew that the dragon knight wasn't keen to take any sort of bribe, much less an agreement.  She finally turned to acknowledge the Hylian in question with a faint blush painting across her pale cheeks.  "Oh no, this is all wrong... So wrong!"
"What's wrong?  Hello?" Proxi moved to keep Lana's attention on her.  Lana was suddenly acting so frantic!  The fairy opted to keep her distance and returned to the Hylian's side, subtly noticing how Impa and Link's hands were reaching for their weapons.  Zelda, however, remained collected and tapped her manicured nails against the arm of her seat.
Lana sighed loudly, seemingly exhausted from the tension that hung in the air in the throne room.  Her posture went back upright, eyes shining bright as ever.  "Nevermind it!"  She laughed heartily and brought her bound fists up to her chest.  "Without my help, you guys are doomed!"  She opened her palms to reveal nothing, but by some force unknown to any of them, the chains that held her wrists together came loose and dropped to her ankles.
A collective gasp was all she heard as she paid them no mind, stepping out of the pile of chains and kneeled down to reach for her oversized book that was unceremoniously dropped to the ground.  She gave the soldier who had dropped it a small wink, even with the tip of his blade pointed between her eyes.  Link took his place to shield the princess while Impa took charge of the escalating situation.
"You conniving witch!" she roared, raged laced with her words as she marched up to their prisoner.  The fury in her eyes would have sent a thousand of her soldiers running back to their homes, but Lana was unphased, holding a hand out to halt her in her place.  She paused as so ordered -- if it were up to her, Impa would have mounted her head on a stick by now.  However, the princess was still present.
"I don't want to correct you for a third time, so remember: it's sorceress.  We don't like being called --"
"We?"  Zelda spoke up suddenly.  She finally stood from her throne and motioned for Link to lower his guard.  It was now his turn to look to her for reassurance, but lowered his blade with the guards following suit as the princess descended down the stairs. Still leery of Lana's true intentions, her feet came to a stop behind Impa.  "Who is 'we'?"
"Oh-" Lana's defensive stance crumbled.  Flustered, she held the book to her chest tightly and dropped her gaze to the floor.  "I... I didn't want to have to say it so early, but Cia... Cia and I are from the same magical clan."  Zelda placed a gentle hand on Impa's forearm to keep the Sheikah calm, having grown rigid with the idea that she herself had let something malicious breach their defenses.  Lana's figure trembled, but she willed herself to meet Zelda's eyes, pleading for a chance.  "But I'm not like her!  I want to help save Hyrule!"
"Can you tell us what her intentions are as to start a war?"
"No, but--"
"Then why bother helping at all?" Impa seethed.  "If you cannot -- or will not -- offer any more information than we know already, what good will you do for the kingdom of Hyrule?"
"That's enough, General Impa."  The Sheikah turned behind to look at the princess, dumbfounded.  Her expression fell from cold to turmoil, nervous with this idea that she knew Zelda was hatching.  "Princess... Princess, you can't be serious!"
"I am," she nodded affirmatively, smile spreading across her lips.  "Though Cia's intentions have not yet come to light, I truly believe that Lana has come this far to assist our forces to spare our kingdom from suffering at the hands of a war."  The royal broke the distance between them and placed her hands over Lana's, giving them a reassuring squeeze.  "You do not have to reveal everything at once, but I speak for the kingdom of Hyrule and say that we would gladly stand on your side in these uncertain times."
Lana looked as if the weight of the world had fallen off her shoulders.  She nodded enthusiastically despite the few tears rolling down over the curve of her cheeks.  "Thank you, Princess Zelda!  I... I could never thank you enough!"  The two women then shared a laugh, bubbly and full of mirth.
The Hylian cautiously approached his commander who was still left in a state of shock over the princess's ultimate decision.  Impa refused to show that her pride had been hurt to anyone lesser, folding her arms across her chest to face Link.  "I suppose we'd better get used to seeing her around when it comes to our discussions and the like from here on out."  Her voice was back to its flat tone.  Link nodded in agreement, choosing to side with Impa's distrust toward their newest ally.  "Thank you, Link.  If there's nothing you'd wish you say, you and the other two men can join the rest of the troops for a moment's rest."
"I'm starting to learn I don't like politics either," he signed meekly.  The Sheikah scoffed.  "You'll settle in fast."  She patted him on the shoulder and waved him off.  Link finally allowed his posture to relax when given the green light for dismissal, completely unaware of Lana's fixed gaze on him as he exited the throne room.
--
"Fire rod?"
Link had taken another detour to the Eldin Caves on their next excursion outside of Hyrule's province -- needing time to clear his mind from the political side of war, he claimed -- to reunite with his self-proclaimed ‘mentor’.  Volga looked less than ecstatic at the sight of the bulky item.  The Hylian still seemed proud of it, finally learning to master at least one element of magic on his otherwise empty belt of experience.
"Used it against an army of monsters off in Faron Woods."
"In a forest of all places?" Volga scoffed.  The boy was either brave or just plain stupid.  "I'm appalled it still stands in its grandeur and not in a bed of ashes."
"I'm only doing as you had instructed," he retorted, pointing the end of the rod in the dragon knight's direction.  "Getting used to magic and adapting to situations, remember?  I made do with what I had!"
"I'm sure your general thoroughly enjoyed the idea of her army's pride and joy leaving his weapon in the barracks."  Now he was being insulted.  Link frowned and, despite how tempting it was to let the rod swallow Volga in a wall of flames, thrust the rod in a direction that wouldn't harm anyone.  The small burst of fire dissipated against the wall of rock.
The dragon clicked his tongue.  "Pity."  He pulled Link in and cast the sad excuse for a magical item aside.  Volga anchored him in place with his hands on the boy's shoulders, bringing his head close to the Hylian's ear.  Link's instincts told him to run but with Volga kept him in a vice grip.  It was too late to escape as the roaring sound of Volga's throat releasing a jet stream of flames in the cavern filled his ears and nearly setting his scarf on fire.  Reds and oranges and even blue caught his periphery, instantly running his blood cold despite the heat it radiated.  In reality it was a short display, flames no longer burning in his ears when the dragon knight shut his mouth, but it felt like an eternity.
Link changed his mind on thanking him for the earrings -- he wouldn't dare feed the ego that bled into Volga's voice.
"Come back when you have something worth sharing."
