I basically made this AU in my mind after staring at Pinterest for hours in which Lucerys is accidentally politically savvy, endearing Westeros and securing allies for his mother by being a fashion icon and getting the nobility and the lower class talking about him every week, Regina George-style. “Where is he going? What’s he wearing? How lovely does he look today? Can the tailor here make something similar?” Luke travelled abroad to become more worldly/culturally educated in preparation for his role as Lord of Driftmark and was smitten with the diversity of clothing and fabrics. Upon his return, he basically caused tabloids + the printing press to become invented early. King shit. He also gives Aemond a heart attack whenever he catches sight of him, because he can’t decide whether to encourage this behavior or steal him away so no one else can see him. Instead, he just stares like an idiot.

okay so for the stephcass fic it's like. arachne myth adjacent. so the basic premise is a gothic retelling where it was cass' ancestor who was cursed and turned into a spider creature.

stephanie is not from high society like cass and her countess' mother. instead, steph is just barely getting by as a tailor's apprentice. though shiva and cass are sort of recluses due to their shared affliction, the silk they can make is very valued.

but no gothic romance would be complete without the threat of violence and fear of death that's just standard for the genre sooooo i know in one version of the arachne myth, she and her brother both were turned and it was said that their offspring would kill them which is really interesting esp in combo with cass' issues with murder.

soooo with that said possibly as cass ages she is combating more and more thoughts of violence towards her mother. did you know spiders will eat other spiders? (plus it would tie into the whole shiva training cass thing if shiva expects and wants her daughter to kill her when the time comes, like she did to her mother)

perhaps the only time cass doesn't have those thoughts is when she's with steph. which is such a cliché but i happen to like clichés a lot.

Just found out that ‘Varney the Vampire’, notorious mid-Victorian penny-dreadful, is on Project Gutenberg and chock-full of important vampire knowledge from the year 1845. Vampires are from Norway, apparently? And can be killed in the regular way by being shot at, but can then be revived by moonlight? And are bad at getting over fences?

In other news after sitting on some very wild ideas I might actually produce that essay about tax fraud.

my school: we want to make school a place where you feel safe :)

also my school: you are not allowed to get a drink during class during the hottest week of the year. you are also not allowed to get a drink as you are going to your next lesson. you are not allowed to use the toilet during lesson because it is too disruptive, but you are allowed to access the one (1) toilet that is unlocked at your 15 minute break and 45 minute lunch. this is a school of 2200+ students. if you have a medical issue, you are given a pass that lets you go to the toilet during lesson, but only one of 3 toilets is unlocked. we will not tell you which one this is, and also it changes every period, because it is less disruptive to have to climb two flights of stairs and back down again than it is to just let you pee. also we changed the rules so now school starts 10 minutes earlier than you have experienced these past 4 years, and you will get lunch detention if you are seconds late. if your phone is in your pocket it will be confiscated because according to the UN, they are evil. also this is the most important year of your life and if you fail any of these tests you will be doomed to live on the streets forever.
