Barbara Gordon's Coding & Computer Cram School is a popular YouTube series. Tucker Foley is a star student.
Barbara Gordon's Cram School posts free online courses for both coding and computer engineering. Think Crash Course in terms of entertainment, but college lecture in terms of depth. Hundreds of thousands of viewers flock to it— students who missed a class, people looking to add new skills to a resume, even simple hobbyists. It’s a project Barbara’s proud of.
Sometimes, when she wants to relax, she’ll even hop in the comments and spend an afternoon troubleshooting a viewer’s project with them.
User “Fryer-Tuck” has especially interesting ones. Barbara finds herself seeking out his comments, checking in on whatever this crazy kid is making next. An app for collecting GPS pings and assembling them on a map in real-time, an algorithm that connects geographic points to predict something’s movement taking a hundred other variables into account, simplified versions of incredibly complex homemade programs so they can run on incredibly limited CPU’s.
(Barbara wants to buy the kid a PC. It seems he’s got natural talent, but he keeps making reference to a PDA. Talk about 90’s! This guy’s hardware probably predates his birth.)
She chats with him more and more, switching to less public PM threads, and eventually, he opens up. His latest project, though, is not something Barbara has personal experience with.
FT: so if you found, hypothetically, a mysterious glowing substance that affects tech in weird and wacky ways that could totally have potential but might be vaguely sentient/otherworldly…. what would you do and how would you experiment with it. safely, of course. and hypothetically
BG: I’d make sure all my tests were in disposable devices and quarantined programs to keep it from infecting my important stuff. Dare I ask… how weird and wacky is it?
FT: uhhh. theoretically, a person composed of this substance once used it to enter a video game. like physical body, into the computer, onto the screen? moving around and talking and fighting enemies within the game?
FT: its been experimented with before, but not on any tech with a brain. just basic shields and blasters and stuff, its an energy source. also was put in a car once
FT: i wanna see how it affects software, yk? bc i already know it can. mess around and see how far i can push it
BG: […]
FT: … barbara?
BG: Sorry, thinking. Would you mind sharing more details? You said “blasters?”
Honestly. Kid genius with access to some truly wacky materials and even wackier weapons, she needs to start a file on him before he full sends to either hero or villain.
[OR: Tucker is a self-taught hacker, but if he were to credit a teacher, he'd name Barbara Gordon's Coding & Computer Cram School! He's even caught the attention of Dr. Gordon herself. She's full of sage advice, and with how she preaches the value of a good VPN, he's sure she's not pro-government. Maybe she'll help him as he studies the many applications of ecto-tech!]

A waste
So I was in a bad mood an wrote al of this in one sitting. I’m now to llazy to edit it, so let’s just hope it’s not too bad. Enjoy !
Tim’s life has become a nightmare. Tim’s life is a nightmare, a living hell. It has been spiralling for days, for years and he keep going lower and lower.
Deep down Tim known, he known it isn’t going to end well, he won’t have a pretty ending but damn, he did fight for it. He wanted it so bad, to have something nice, to be important to someone, to do good.
Except he didn’t. His end was more than predictable. He was the worst, an echec to everyone.
First to mother and father, stranger tied by him, him tied to them by blood. Tim wasn’t a good bound, not good enough. Alas, Janet Drake couldn’t have another pregnancy and they ended  stuck with him.
He was tiny, he wasn’t good at sport, he was looking quite feminine, he was a lost cause to Jack by the age of 4. What a strange world where you decide the worth of a child in not even four full years, decide to ignore him as if he wasn’t part of your world.
So Tim tried, tried his very best to be the son Jack deserved. He did sport, trained over and over again to finally be good at it, to finally learn those skill. He wasn’t the greatest, but quite decent in multiple sport, from gymnastic to basketball, including escrim and boxe and others. Tim also tried to learn as much possible in the masculine interest, like cars, virtual market or science, skills that his father valued.
Except that it was already too late, he was already invisible to Jack’s eyes. He was a waste of his father time. A failed investment
In the same time, Tim tried to please his mother, to be seen as smart she wanted, as dainty and graceful she desired, to be as much the son she wanted.
But she didn’t had time to wait for him to be that, it was a matter of born with or get rid off. He wasn’t born with those. So she get rid of him and spend her time at something more valuable.
He was a mistake, an error, a deception. They made it clear multiple time. Luckily for them, they travelled a lot and didn’t saw Tim so much. They had better things to do.
What was odd is actually how they praised him to their “friends”, acquaintance fitting better, how they praised Tim has if he was the greatest son they could had. How their son knew so much, could so much, was so much. Even if he wasn’t.
In the end, even if they were stranger to him, if they ignored him, he did cried and mourn them each when they died.
Then there was many other person he failed : teachers, nannies, friends … He wasn’t good enough for them, even at his best, he wasn’t doing good enough, he never could. And each left him, for their own good of course, they shouldn’t waste time on him, he didn’t deserve it. He tried, his hardest, but he still ended all alone.
But suddenly, there was an hope, in the form of Batman and Robin. Oh, how much he watched them, hidden on rooftop, through his binocular, then his camera. How he longed to be with them, to do as much good as them. But he didn’t deserve … And Gotham needed much better than tiny lonely Tim.
He did ,anyway, trained as much as he could, as hard as possible. He tried over and over again to do some tricks seen during his stalking session, even if each time he failed it hurted very much. He might not be worth anything, but at least Tim knew he was determined and resistant, so he would do it until it became manageable, until it was worth his father and Batman expectation. Until he trained enough to be a vigilante.
On the other hands, he kept close to his mother’s mindset and trained his brain. It did took time, but 8 years old Tim found Robin’s and Batman’s identities after 4 months of study. Not fast enough but still some results.
And he kept going, watching them with awe and dreaming of becoming as good as them, worthy their attention maybe. He kept watching when the new Robin stepped in, even adapted his training to not be only as flexible and agile than the first one, but also blunt and full of tricks as the second. He watched the duo adapt to their new partnership and Nightwing appear in Gotham’s sky. He knew them, all by name, all by face, by movement and by breath. It felt right.
When the second Robin died, he mourned him, deeply, knowing a teen died for this city, anonymously. He watched Nightwing move away shortly after. He watched Batman turning even more violent and lethal following those.
It took him time to decide to go to them, to offer his help. He hoped during months that another Robin would appear, as Jason appeared after Dick’s resignation. But nobody showed up and Batman needed his partner. Maybe Tim was ready, had trained enough. Maybe he could honor Dick’s role and Jason’s legacy. Maybe he wouldn’t fail Bruce.
Yes, indeed, at first, Bruce rejected him, but Tim was stubborn and kept pushing, knowing it was the right decision. And Bruce took him, gave him the Robin mantle. But the man was still cold and rough with Tim.
But it was alright, he could manage it. Tim customised the costume he had to wear, not wanting to wear the same as Jason out of respect for him, but wearing proudly the big R by love for his predecessors.
And it did work, for sometimes, Tim was barely good enough for the role, not worth anything to Dick’s eyes or Bruce’s, but he could take it. After all, they feared he would fill Jason’s place, except Tim couldn’t, because we can’t replace a person, just fill their role.
But he fought well, had a purpose to his life, worked hard to protect Gotham and defend it against the villains. He did team up multiples time with other outcast from the superhero community, formed a group with them, The Young Justice, and finally had friends in them, real one he didn’t disappointed.
It lasted for maybe three to four years, a pleasant break in Tim’s nightmare, if he except the death of his parents. Because he did had support to mourn them.
Then Jason came back. And Tim loved that news, was so happy, he mourned the young man so much. He loved him so much.
Except it wasn’t reciprocate, not quite the contrary to be fair. The first thing Jason did coming back to Gotham was to attempt killing Tim. Multiples times.
Each times ended in a near death experiences for Tim and left him deeply scarred. Tim told it to Bruce and Dick. Told them that Jason was alive, that he saw him in Gotham, but didn’t talked of their fight, by fear to be left out by them.
At one point, after almost one year, Jason stopped his tentative to kill him, telling him he didn't it mattered that much. That was fair.
And shortly after, his friend Kon died, during a fight in space. Then Bart, few months after, snatched by the spacetime and finally Cassie, who disappeared.
Tim was alone again, but not fully, no not yet, not yet ! He still has the bats. Well, not for so long though.
First, Stephanie, the second batgirl, his ex-girlfriend and best friend died during a mission.
And it’s will Tim was still mourning his former team and bestfriends that Damian appeared at the Manor. He was Bruce biological son. The true heir to the Batman legacy… And to Robin’s mantle. After all, every Robin, except for him, was a son of Bruce, by adoption, but a son nonetheless. But Tim wasn’t one yet, his father and mother just had died before Jason return and the adoption paper where in Bruce’s office, waiting to be signed by both Tim and Bruce. In the end, Tim never had the adoption paper filled, and Bruce never mentioned it again.
He was the odd pieces of the family, he knew it, Damian told him and Jason to. Dick had just begun to warm up to him. Too late as always. Too late.
Then Bruce “died”. To be fair he disappeared. Dick became Batman. Damian was still in training to become part of the vigilante. And Tim hadn’t barely time to proceed his second father figure death before Dick stripped him of his vigilante title.
He wasn’t Robin anymore, he wasn't a vigilante. Those honor had been gifted to Damian.
Tim felt something broke this day, inside him, deep down, something that was already fractured and finally shattered.
He spent days alone in some flat he rented, laying in the bathroom, not moving, eating or doing anything. Just processing all of his life, this whole failure that he was.
When he finally got it under control, barely, but still, he got up and made a plan to find Bruce. He couldn’t be dead if there was no proof or body. There could be some other explanation. And if he could give back Gotham is hero and the family their Bruce, it would be a great achievement.
But nobody believed him. He was a fool to them, as always been.
So he took it alone. He worked for Bruce firm all day, and for his father’s company as well. Became another vigilante to protect Gotham, Red Robin, for Jason and for Dick’s example. They mocked him.
And instead of resting between those two things, he built his case, Bruce case, disappearance. He was so alone, so broken, empty, he had not clue of what he was achieving in the end, how, why, nothing. His memory became a blur, things he couldn’t remember and other he doesn’t wanted to. Stuff to be proud and other ashamed.
He did became “close” to Ra's, did horrible thing during this time that he happily forgot.
And in the end, it paid off. Tim couldn’t remember what he traded exactly to Ra's but the immortal found a way to get Bruce out of time and back to their dimension.
And when finally Tim came back to the manor, exhausted, barely his own shadow, but proud of having saved Bruce, he didn’t earned any smile or acknowledgement. They knew he find a way to get Bruce back, but it was easier to ignore Tim.
Things didn’t fell back as before Bruce disappearance as Tim hopped, new dynamics had been created, new dynamics and partnership in which Tim wasn’t needed.
But he stayed, he tried to fit in, to be useful.
Even if Bruce ignored him.
Even if Dick had abandoned him.
Even if Jason was disgusted by him.
Even If Stephanie reappeared and had faked her death in his back.
Even if Damian hated him.
Even if all his friends were dead.
Even if he wasn’t enough.
Even if he never did fitted in this family.
Tim got reckless. He didn’t slept. Over worked himself at the office, and during his patrol. He stopped to feed himself properly. To tend his wounds correctly. He was decaying. He could pull lightly at his hair and his hand would come back with locks of it. He kept training his body even if he passed out everytime. If he ate more than 400g of food, he threw up. He was dying. And it wasn’t pretty.
Than there was the final day, the famous day when the last strip would romp. It happened as he had imagined it, almost ironically.
First, Bruce confronted him. About his reckless behavior. About his current state. About how Tim wasn’t good enough for the mission, to protect Gotham and should stop. He wasn’t welcome in the Cave anymore.
Then he stumbled on Stephanie who was avoiding him. And given this opportunity, she dumped all her hard truth on him : he never had been her friend, she never trusted him, that’s why she faked her death and didn’t told him… He didn’t deserve it, wasn’t worth the true.
And while Tim was currently crumbling on himself, the new Wayne, Damian found it funny to provoke him, belittle him. To remember him he was a failure, to weak, to thin, it was better if he just stopped to work, has a vigilante and for their incorporation because he wasn’t doing any good. He wasn’t enough.
So Tim just left, tried to not react because he didn’t knew how to. He was empty, that was it, there just wasn't any Tim left. His body was decaying and himself seemed to be no more.
But he wanted to end it well, to make it pretty. After all, that had been the whole point of his life isn’t it ? He visited his parents grave and left there flowers. Did same for the monuments dedicated to his friends. Then made sure flowers will be delivered for each one on there birthday. Same for the living who mattered. Then, he tied up all his belongings. And tried to call Dick one last time.
He tried to talk to him. To tell him to not worry anymore he won’t bother them anymore. It would end soon, soon. But instead, Dick cut him off immediately and told him he hadn’t time - for Tim. So it would be it.
He got home and put his costume on. It was a last time to. After this patrol, he would burn all of his vigilante stuff, take his new fake identity and disappear somewhere in India, or maybe in Russia, he wasn’t sure yet. What he was sure, it’s that nobody would look out for him. They would assume him dead. Nobody had time for Tim. And he could finally decay in peace.
Except he saw Jason during his last patrol. Jason who turned out to known some memory Tim had forgotten. Disgusting stuff Tim had done to find Bruce. How dirty Tim got his hands for the sake of the family. How repugnant it made him, even more than before. Jason never had many tenderness for him. But him looking at Tim pitifully was the final straw.
Tim just fly away, ignoring Jason call. Ignoring everyone’s voices buzzing in his ear, sounding like if they were calling him - as if. He just threw his comm in a street. Then his GPS somewhere else. Then he got on top of his old-house, the Drake’s house, stripped of his uniform that he put in the big barril of acid he had lay out. Put on his new civilian clothes, with his bag containing his new identity and …
And finally felt some tears run down his cheek, realising it was it, his life, Tim Drake’s life was officially a waste of time, of space. An error, an echec…
Then why run away ? It was done. It could had been a pretty end, but Jason was going to tell his secrets to everybody and it would be a repugnant final. And what if he ended up messing his new life, just as this one.
Tim didn’t wanted to waste anyone's time or space anymore. His body was dying. His mind was broken. That was it.
He did heard someone calling his name, but he was already falling, halfly because his body couldn’t support him anymore, halfly because his mind choose too. He fall from the highest point of his house into the bay.
The surface of the water broke just like his heart did over and over again.
That was an end.

You ever lost something in your life? Like a prized possession? Or a great opportunity that would’ve changed your life forever? Or even a loved one? I know I did, I lost all three of those! (mostly the third option). I had some nice treasures of mine that might’ve been misplaced, a lot of situations where I could’ve come out victorious and happy and even met some really nice people throughout my life only to lose them and never see them again. It’s sad. (sigh) That’s life, you love, you lost and it repeats. We must enjoy it while we can and if we do end up losing it, we still have our memories to look back on it and learn from our mistakes. Besides, we can still look forward to the new joys we’ll experience in life and if we’re lucky, we can keep it! Have our heroes learned to do that? Check it out!
Battle of the Miraculous
*Part 1:Heart Hunter-For the longest time, this was titled as “Loveater”, but now it’s just Heart Hunter....I don’t know why, maybe cuz of the copyright, I was just naming what was accurate. Anyways, it’s the Bourgeois’s anniversary and Gabe deliberately upsets the two by getting them into an argument over his present which is a type of “Get-Along sweater” and them becoming a giant Pac Man akuma that shoots/eats love cuz they seem to lack it between each other. They looked pretty stupid, I had a better image in my mind. I mean, it was built up to be this badass like villain that could destroy love and that got us all concerned for the love square and yet, w-we got a two-faced video game parody baddie! It’s a juvenile show, whattaya gonna do? Another thing is why the f*ck was Mayura in this! I thought Hawk Moth deliberately made it clear in “Ladybug”, which came after this, that she had to stop cuz it was worsening Nats health! (throws hands in the air) He doesn’t care, I give up with this guy, why the f*ck would I believe him!? HE’S MAD AND DESPERATE! F*ck Gabe/Hawk Moth! During that time, we see some nice moments of Lukanette, Adrigami and some Adrigaminette! We also see things we were dying for such as Marinette with her hair down (spoiled by “Cat Blanc” unfortunately) and Master Fu as Jade F*cking Turtle! Hallelujah! So they were savin’ that up for this finale huh, well, it’s about f*cking time! :P. This also marked as the death of the love square since Adrien/Cat Noir has finally learned to move on from Ladybug and pursue Kagami/Ryuko and Marinette/Ladybug considering the same for Adrien. Now you would think that since it’s the Bourgeois family akumatized, it would be the appropriate opportunity for Chloe to be given back her miraculous already, but she’s ignored yet again and this was the last straw for her. This can go about two ways: A.Ladybug refused to have Queen Bee cuz either she was exposed or she couldn’t stand her nagging her about giving her a miraculous or B.She chose Ryuko instead, despite her being exposed as well, either cuz she really needed her power to stop the villain or cuz she was trying to c*ckblock Adrigami (possibly the latter). The end I could relate to on Marinette breaking down over her full plate of responsibilities (and accidentally letting Hawk Moth know that Master Fu was the guardian when she forgot to detransform to meet up with him cuz she had a lot on her mind) cuz I’ve been through the same thing where I had to put up a tough front after making a huge mistake only to be unable to bottle it up for long and just burst into tears and have to be comforted by a loved one. It’s not easy and it doesn’t feel so good and you’re gonna need support to let it all out and let people know how you really feel.
—————————————
*Part 2:Miracle Queen-I had an entirely different look for Miracle Queen in my head, but the canon look for her was basically what you can call as “Malibu Stacy with new hat”....yeah....just like that....Lame. Hawk Moth manipulates her anger at being constantly denied the bee miraculous and it’s what akumatizes her willingly as her third villainess form. Since she was forced to give up her superhero duties, she went with the idea of “If I can’t be a superhero, then there will be no superheroes!” and uses her hornet army to brainwash everyone in Paris and have all the members of Team Miraculous (minus the dynamic duo and Bunnyx) to expose themselves. (sigh) Well, guess we won’t be seeing them anymore in the show.......I think. The thing about it is, we need to remember that Chloe having a miraculous didn’t make her a better person like Marinette/Ladybug hoped, it made her worse! Everything she did as Queen Bee was mostly to help benefit herself. Unless she starts learning to think of others before herself, she’s banished from Team Miraculous! At last, we saw Dragonbug and Snake Noir in their combined Kwamies and I gotta say, Snake Noir was an improvement from Aspik, least in this case he had his own power to help save the day with the snake miraculous instead of just the snake. Much better! Now in the end, Master Fu passed on his guardianship to Ladybug and by doing so erased his memory of the miraculous duties to keep them a secret and what made Hawk Moth give up when it got too much for him to handle. Ha! Ha! Loser! Farewell, Fu! You will be missed, Thank you! It’s implied in the end that Adrigami and Lukanette just might be canon now that the heroes have moved on, but it’s probably for their future character developements until the true ship becomes endgame *cough*theicecreamstheclue*cough*.
My final thoughts on this ep before the whole season here, after what Cat Noir learned in the previous ep, “Ladybug”, he finally got the hint that there was no future between him and his lady (which he also stopped calling her!) and that he should settle for what he can get. Marinette however, was reluctant to move on from Adrien as she’s still insecure about herself, but did so so she won’t interfere between Adrigami and make herself look bad for trying to seperate them (Pssst, it’s not permanent so you can calm down). It might be good for them though, they did a good job saving the day without all that love distracting them. Maybe they’ll be more competent than ever! Ryuko had come back! My friend was right! Lol! Here I thought she wasn’t gonna return! But is it serious now along with every other hero that’s been exposed!? (they’re on the poster for Season 4! (shrugs)). What we learned from Master Fu was when you pass on your guardianship, you lose your memories of what was related to it for safety reasons! Whoa! Now that it’s passed onto Marinette/Ladybug, does this mean she’s gonna suffer the same thing when she passes it on! That’s tearjerker worthy! :’(. Oh boy! As if balancing her social/love/school life and her superhero duties weren’t bad enough, she’s now the new guardian of the Miracule Box! Poor thing. Here come the headaches! Kinda feel bad for Chloe. Sure she was manipulated by Hawk Moth over her ignored hero duties by her own idol constantly, but she still willingly took the bait, after she refused the other time!, and now she renounced her worship of Ladybug and hates her as much as Lila does! How will this go next season? Well, rumor has it she’s getting akumatized yet again! (is this a seasonal running gag for her?). We are getting a new Queen Bee and I know damn well Chloes gonna hate that. However, maybe that means she’ll finally get that redemption arc the fans have been praying for? Fingers crossed. Gabe fixed the peacock miraculous though cuz he now has the deciphered notes Nat stole from Master Fu! Now he’ll be stronger than ever with Mayura! Don! Don! Don! This has been yet another “interesting” season. We got some answers, we got some questions still left answered and we got some new questions we need answers to! Let’s recap on went on:Lila is back and is finally a reoccurring character (only when we need the plot to be drivin’) and she’s gone to the dark side working both for Gabriel and Hawk Moth, we saw Thomas Astruc in animated form and the original concept work of “What-Could’ve-Been” for the show which is now a show-within-a-show using the “Ladybug PV”, we saw new villains and the new beings, sentimonsters, by Mayura and how they’re created/destroyed and some returning villains that came back stronger, new heroes from the miraculouses the fans predicted, Chloe was forced to retire as Queen Bee cuz her identity was exposed and now she too went to the dark side, we almost got the love square complete a few times before the reset button was pushed, we learned the history of Master Fu’s big mistake, Marinette and Kagami became friends, there’s gonna be a new Hawk Moth in the future! We finally saw the long awaited Cat Blanc that was major! and even (disappointedly) Felix (sadly no “Bridgette”) and much more. News from the next season, Luka and Kagami will be akumatized again, we’ll get new heroes, Kwamies, outfits and powers, we might still get the Halloween and Chinese Legend specials (Oh God! Please do!), there will be an episode with the the “OMG” factor as “Cat Blanc” and a new location called Swan Island! Sweet! Can’t wait! See you guys in the Fall when Season 4 comes out! I’ll be back with new ladybug frames for the reviews and gifs! Good-bye for now dear Miraculers!

Big Hero 6 Theory: Liv’s Next Mutation
Even though it’s not the main focus of my blog, it’s no secret that I love Big Hero 6: the series. I love the characters, I love the animation, I love the stories, and I, of course, love the mysteries. The show keeps you guessing as to what’s going to happen next, but the tragic thing is that, despite being popular enough to warrant a renewal for a third season before season 2 premiered, there doesn’t seem to be much of a fan community online. Unless you tag your fan art, theories, quotes, etc. it’s unlikely a piece of fan art will drift across your dash like it does for shows like Steven Universe, Star vs. The Forces of Evil, She-Ra, etc. I’m hoping that changes soon, but I digress.
Also, this theory is going to contain spoilers for season 2, so I’ll go ahead and tuck it under “Read More”.
Getting back on topic, one of the biggest mysteries thus far in season 2 is the monsters and who is making them. We know Liv Amara is the culprit, but as of episode 10, “Lie Detector,” it becomes less clear what’s going on. Who’s the real Liv Amara? Why is one Liv in what appears to be cryosleep? Why is the other Liv making these monsters? How long has this apparent clone been running amok? Have we only known this clone the entire time? Does the sleeping Liv know what’s going on? There are so many questions, but not a whole lot of answers. Seeing as it’s been a few weeks since the last new episode, we might not know for some time. All we know is that the active Liv Amara is turning old villains into monsters for some kind of fee and, at the moment, no known benefit for the villains. Well, yeah, the villains become stronger, faster, and meaner, but as we saw with High Voltage, the process kind of interferes with living their best lives. We don’t know why they want this or why Liv is doing it. All we really know is that Liv is turning humans into monsters and turning them loose in the streets, sometimes being the one to take them down and look like a hero, other times letting Big Hero 6 do the dirty work.
So now let’s take a look at what we know about Liv’s monsters. I’ll bold the important stuff, as most of this will just be recap:
The first one, introduced in season 1 although we don’t know the full story yet, is Orso Knox, the Shakespeare fan turned whale mixed with a dinosaur and some hair, put into a blender, frozen, and then partially thawed. He spends the episode rampaging through the streets of San Fransokyo, attending his meetings, destroying offices, and speaking cryptically. We later learn that he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, but is more beast than man, and was only trying to get help the best he could. Had it not been for Karmi reversing his mutation in the episode “Prey Date,” Liv probably would have kept Knox as a monster for even longer, potentially pulling him further and further from his humanity.
The second one is Momakase, who can be best described as turning into a werewolf from Skyrim (although her appearance is likely based on Lady Deathstrike, another Marvel villain). Momakase has always been strong, but she is heightened way beyond her normal abilities. Her nails are deadly claws that can cut through anything, she can escape the trap Big Hero 6 creates her and escape into the night, and has so far not been seen again since the episode “The Seventh Wheel.”
Third and fourth is the mother-daughter duo High Voltage. When they make their season 2 debut in “Something’s Fishy,” they discuss wanting to go straight with Liv, telling her that their crime days are over and even trying to lead normal lives after doing Liv’s dirty work. Unfortunately, once they mutate, those dreams are crushed, and they end up being kept in a tank until Liv needs them again in the episode “Lie Detector.” Barb and Juniper even end up turning back over their new leaf after an entire song and dance number about wanting to be normal, which, suggests to me at least, that Liv’s mutation process also messes with free will. Is it possible the two really did just learn they love crime that much? Sure, but I’m not convinced.
The fifth, arguably, is Nega-Globby, a destructive blob made from Globby’s already mutated DNA, introduced in the episode “Nega-Globby”. Side note, I love this episode. Globby makes such a sacrifice in the name of goodness and, I’d say, has been pretty thoroughly redeemed. While our Globby is victorious by the end of the episode, Nega-Globby is still part of him, suggesting that it’s not easy to undo one of Liv’s mutations.
The sixth is the Hibagon in the episode “Muira-Horror!”, the mutated Ned Ludd, back again for more action. Unlike all the other mutations before, Ned’s mutation leaves him a mindless killing machine, further supporting the idea that Liv has the power to interrupt or even override free will. Even Orso Knox had the ability to quote The Tempest, but Ned doesn’t say a word. He comes out of his mutation dazed and confused, with no recollection of what happened.
Mutant number seven is Mr. Sparkles, who is made into a fluffy green monster in the aptly titled episode, “Something Fluffy.” Also introduced in this episode are the Mayoi, adorable, fluffy fungus creatures created by Liv that grow into towering kaijus that can be controlled by Mr. Sparkles. Basically, Liv can create hive minds, or at the very least can put one mind in charge of many. She’s the one to save the day at the end of the episode, boosting her appearance and making Big Hero 6 look inept. After Hiro learns the police already don’t much care for the superhero team in the episode “Something’s Fishy”, this event creates more tension between them and the people they protect, possibly setting up the conflict for the rest of the season, or maybe even the main conflict of season 3.
Finally, we have the big Bessie Bear from the latest episode, “Lie Detector.” This mutation shows us that Liv can essentially give life to inanimate objects, as all she needed was a lock of grizzly bear hair to create the technology cancelling beast. This shows that all Liv needs to make a monster is the tiniest amount of DNA.
So now we know/remember what Liv can do with her technology. We know she poses a threat to Big Hero 6. Seeing as she has only done experiments on past antagonists (as well as Orso Knox and, as is implied, her Chris-sistant, although we don’t know enough about him for him to make the recap), why would she experiment on Big Hero 6? In my mind, the answer is simple: to break them apart. If she mutates one of the characters, crime fighting will be a lot harder. Public perception of the team will plummet. And, if she works her magic with tampering with free will, she can even have another henchman on her side. In short, there’s no way Liv loses in this scenario. Now that we know her motivation, who’s on the chopping block?
The first person who comes to mind isn’t a person at all. We know that Liv can make monsters with a frame and just a bit of DNA, so in theory, she could mutate Baymax. This doesn’t seem likely though, as it would be much easier to just unplug him. Plus, he was part of a super villain grand scheme last season, so it might be repetitive. It could be Hiro. He’s the main character, and having him mutated would force him to hide more things from Aunt Cass, force him to go to Karmi for help, and would give us more insight into the lives of the mutated villains. Although, because he’s the main character, I can’t see him switching sides. Fred is already pretty animalistic, as reflected in his costumes and behaviors while wearing them. But, I don’t know how much mileage we can get considering how Fred is still very much a comic relief character. Wasabi is probably the least developed character on the team, so a mutation could push things for him in a new direction, but that would probably come at the show’s detriment. Honey Lemon’s chem purse already puts her in harm’s way of suffering the same mutation as Globby, making her an easy target, but that would just be repetitive at this point. And so, we are left with one person, the character who I think this is most likely to happen to:
Go Go Tomago.
In a way, season 2 has been Go Go’s season. She’s had more development than the rest of the cast, maybe even more than Hiro. “The Fate of the Roommates” shows her emotionally vulnerable and opening up about her feelings for the first time, developing her as a character and her relationship with Honey Lemon. The very next episode, “Muira-Horror!” shows her learning to let go of some of her stubbornness to trust in Krei’s judgement. The episode “Supersonic Sue” shows her crisis as she fails to prevent an old criminal fresh out of retirement from escaping a crime scene, an old criminal who, as it turns out, was inspired by Go Go to go back to crime. Basically, Go Go has been on an emotional roller coaster this season. We see her get angry, we see her get sad, we see her challenged in ways we hadn’t before. These episodes gave her highs, but they also gave her lows. In fact, “Supersonic Sue” didn’t even give her time to get over what happened, nor does she get a chance to redeem herself from her failure. Right now, Go Go has the most to lose and would likely be the hardest to fall. If anyone on the team is going to get mutated, I’m betting it’s her.
As of right now, we don’t know if the show is going in this direction. For all we know, the mutations stopped at Bessie and the rest of the season will be rounding up the mutants and returning them to normal. But the season is only half-over. I feel like we have plenty of time to play around with the status quo and shake things up a bit. If they do go this route, I doubt it will be permanent, but it could be fun and heart-wrenching at the same time. We’ll see, when Disney finally airs those new episodes.

Masked, unmasked
Anonymous asked:
Can I ask for a young justice nightwing that’s trying to convince reader (that was a good friend to him back in Gotham Academy) to join the team after they develop superpowers?
asdjhjasa I’m sorry I accidentally deleted your ask!
Pairing: Nightwing x reader (young justice) Word Count: 1,6k words Context: With a science experiment becoming noticed by the wrong people, you had discovered that you weren’t like most of your friends. And with the great detective Richard Grayson on duty of course he learns of your troubles and the aftermath of your rescue.
Tumblr media
“I’m just saying, I know of a place where you could be a lot safer than the studio you’re living in now!”
“Look, Mr... Nightwing, dude, hero guy.” you said, finally turning around. “I appreciate you and your team saving me from those guys. I really do. But I don’t intend on moving out anytime soon, there’s not many places I can afford and I am not letting anyone else pay my rent for me.”
“I’m not telling you to move out to another place in Gotham. I want you on my team.”
“No, I’m not moving out to Bludhaven eith---What.”
He chuckled and repeated himself. He always enjoyed surprising you, regardless of if he had a mask on or not.
“I want you on my team. Don’t think I didn’t notice how some guards seemed to just faint when they were around you. Unless you really are that charming.”
You blushed, but you turned away and started walking away from him. Thankfully he didn’t notice the pink that dusted your cheeks, but part of the pink was because you felt yourself breaking out in cold sweat because someone else had so easily figured out that you weren’t like the others. The fact that he was a pretty attractive superhero didn’t really help the anxiety creeping into your frame as you walked back home.
The moment you closed the door, your phone vibrated in your pocket before you could even sink down to the floor and let out the longest and deepest sigh of the century.
from, unknown number: Not very nice of you to just storm off like that, I have a heart too you know
to, unknown number: jesus christ am I going to have to file a restraining order for your masked ass
from, unknown number: my ass holds no mask, unfortunately
Rolling your eyes, you blocked the number. You knew it was useless, Nightwing being a very smart individual that used to be under Batman’s wing but you felt good for a few seconds. Your phone pinged the moment you rose from your work desk but you ignored it, simply taking the device in your hands without unlocking it and plugging it into the wall.
You raised your arms and stretched, declaring that you were taking a shower and then going to bed. As you closed the blinds before the lights, a smirking figure on the neighboring rooftop leaped back to his base.
The next morning, a familiar face greeted you with a pat on the shoulder. Blue eyes pierced into yours as you took in his bright smile. It was blinding.
“Hey there sleepyhead, didn’t get your morning coffee yet?”
“Urgh, Dick.”
“Yes, yes that is my name. Looks like you need that morning coffee ASAP.”
“I wasn’t calling--- You know what? inject caffeine into my veins until I bleed it when I get cut. Where to?”
Dick glanced at his wristwatch, then at you, and then at the college you were both attending.
“Save me a seat and I’ll cover the goods.” he winked before dashing towards the nearest cafe.
The moment you arrived in class all the backseats were taken by the cool kids. So dragging Dick’s bag with you, you sat near the first window in the first rows. It would make your friend able to spot you faster too so it all worked out, you tried to convince yourself.
The moment you had taken your notebook out of your bag, your heard heavy footsteps, a pair going at an insane speed and another that was much more relaxed.
Your teacher, a slow, cold and sour old man opened the door and right after he took his first step into the class, Dick jumped through the frame and landed with both his feet. He spotted you and beamed your way, saying “just in time” before jogging to the seat beside you.
“Grayson. Almost late but actually present. What a pleasure to see you.” your teacher said as he sat down. “Alright class, open your manuals to the third chapter.”
“Got your favorite, as weird as it is.” He said, pushing a cup with his name on it towards your notebook.
“Look, you should tell me that after you’ve tried a matcha latte with a few shots of espresso. Tea has caffeine in it anyways.” you said, letting your fingers come around the paper cup. You felt the warmth of your drink through the foam and let out a long sigh.
“I could right now, if you’d be so nice to broaden my horizons.” he said, a mischievous grin creeping on his face.
“No.” You frowned and pulled the cup closer to you.
That earned a low chuckle from him before you both returned to the class at hand. For the first time in a long while you weren’t going to need to copy your notes for this class.
You’d known the boy sitting beside you since high school, being one of the students that could keep up with him (in more than one way) naturally you ended up together a lot. You would be lying if you said you’d never felt attracted to him, or felt some twinge in your heart when you heard that he was dating Barbara Gordon. Not that you were surprised, she was just so.... Barbara. There wasn’t a single thing that those two couldn’t do. No weaknesses whatsoever, or at least not in your eyes.
Though when you learned that the pair had broken up a little while ago, for the first time you’d started to see your friends as something else than perfect. You saw them as actual people with flaws for the first time and as you discovered and acknowledged them you grew closer to both of them in the last few months than you have in the past few years. They’d noticed too, and now before you knew it there wasn’t a week where you didn’t see them at least once, despite being in different programs in college.
The moment you left class, you felt your phone vibrate inside your pocket. Nightwing had just sent the text he sent to you last night again, since you decided to leave the last message unread and unanswered.
from, unknown number; Really? Blocking me before I get to take you out to dinner?
to, unknown number; You never said anything about dinner and either way I wouldn’t be interested. Please leave me alone.
You sighed again, earning the attention of your friend beside you.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, a grin on his features for a reason that was unknown to you.
“Harassment, I guess.” you shrugged, readjusting the strap on your shoulder before shoving your phone back in your jacket’s pocket. “I think I need some food in me before I head to the library, do you have time to tag along?”
“I always have time for you. What’s this harassment story about?”
“Well, creeper keeps approaching me even when I’ve very clearly refused him.”
“C-creeper’s a pretty strong word.” he commented, avoiding your annoyed expression. “Have you tried listening to their side of the story?”
“No, and it’s probably a little rude to think so, but I don’t think that there’s much to it anyways.”
He raised his eyebrow at that. “Oh really?”
“Dude just wants me to join his...”
You trailed off, trying not to give away the fact that the guardian of Bludhaven was texting you to join his team of superheroes and seemed pretty insistent.
“G-gaming group! Yeah, he wants me to join this gaming group because they need a support main but he doesn’t know if I’d actually communicate and play effectively with his friends. Sure, I can fill and heal and resurrect them when they need me but who knows what we’ll actually do as a team.”
“Well, how would you know if you never tried a game with them? Maybe just try it, and add the good ones on your friend list.”
“The good ones you say...” you sigh in response, before feeling a hand come around your shoulder. “I don’t know how they work, Dick. And even if I did these people have probably been through so much together. You know how it is with cliques, they’re all super tight-knit and it’s really hard to get in.”
“Come now, there’s no need to say that. Worst case scenario they’re added on the fiend list and I teach them all a lesson with my mad skills.” Dick winked at you. “Besides, you’re a great friend and good company to have around, I’m sure you’ll fit in great.”
You chuckled, making him release a sigh he didn’t know he had in him.
“So, about that food... Got a place in mind?”
From, unknown number: Need some help being alone?
The text made your phone shine through your hoodie jacket. You had just finished your draft for an essay that you were going to give in a few weeks, and you raised an eyebrow at the message.
You had stepped out of your apartment to grab some snacks from the nearest corner store, and you were convinced that if something did happen you’d be able to defend yourself. If Nightwing wanted you on his team you’d be just fine against a few thugs.
You would not be fine against the Joker however.
The man stood before you, smiling. He took a deep bow and then looked up at you in a swift movement, making you take a step back.
“Word on the street is that you’re quite the interesting little bird. Mind coming with me?”

Us, The Martians 2/?
Us, The Martians Chapter One
Read on AO3.

“So can you tell me what you've got inside? Well is it all those fears that you hide? 'Cause it's all messed up now in my mind
Tell me how you think you'd find Your uninhabited piece of mind
You always gotta pray for the pessimist And these days seem the strangest existence Now make way and obey all the best of us Before they just eat you alive...”
~Eat You Alive - Sum 41

Peter sighed as he yanked his mask off, not sure if it had been a good day or not. He’d managed to stop several mugging, and even some guy robbing a liquor store. There had been no deaths and the only injuries that had happened was him when he’d gotten hit with a pipe by one of the muggers having a partner and hadn’t been fast enough to avoid the hit to his shoulder. However, it was the reaction of people. There had been open hostility from more people than usual, and someone had even threatened him with a crowbar. It hadn’t even been the criminals he’d been trying to stop.
He knew that not everyone liked vigilantes, and he had no qualms about that. Spider-Man was a vigilante and there were some that hated him because they thought he was getting involved in things he had no business in. There was the police force that wore the uniform and whose face you could see when they helped you. Spider-Man was a person (a kid but not that they knew about that) in a mask that came out of nowhere. Both of them saved you, but Peter guessed he could understand why they didn’t trust a faceless person.
It wasn’t to say that he wanted to reveal his identity to the world as Tony Stark had done on national television. Because there was a difference between Peter Parker and Tony Stark, which is that Peter was just fourteen. He wouldn’t be able to stand the pressure of people finding out that he is Spider-Man. Also, he is completely and utterly without a doubt certain that his aunt would stop him; and possibly kill Mr. Stark even if the man had no idea he was Spider-Man. She would put an end to the days of risking his life after school, of swinging through the air with nothing but a strand of reinforced spiderweb in his hand. He’d never again experience the feeling of free-falling through the air, and he would also not be able to save people that needed him.
For Peter, it didn’t matter if he was despised and probably threatened to be arrested by the police, because he knew that there were people that needed help. There were people that needed a Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man to save them, even if it’s in a small way like stopping a purse snatcher, or getting their pet out of a tree. He wasn’t saving the world like the Avengers, but in that moment he stopped someone from being mugged, he was saving that one person’s world. While he wished he could do more, he knew in his heart that he was right where he needed to be.
And he would continue to do this even as people sneered and yelled at him to go away, and that reporter from the Daily Bugle slandered him every chance he got. None of that mattered, except that relieved smile of the person he had helped, and the wholehearted thanks.
The destruction in Lagos by the Avengers had made things more difficult for a small time vigilantes like him, and probably others like Dare Devil in Hell’s Kitchen, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones. Peter knew that people were scared that another incident like that would happen, like in Washington D.C., and thus he couldn’t blame them for their hostility. Even then, it didn’t mean their distrust hurt any less. After all, he had been doing this superhero gig for almost nine months, and he would have thought people would have realized that he just wanted to help. He didn’t care if they called him a hero or not, but he didn’t want them to call him the names some had that day.
A menace, a criminal, and worst of all, a freak. Peter hated that word, because he saw his powers now as a blessing, a way to help people. He hated it because he would admit to calling himself that when he’d first realized the things he could do, that inner part of himself that held all his self-loathing and his guilt over thinking he’d let his uncle die. That it was his fault. That part had call himself a freak for these powers.
As he pushed the button to deactivate the suit, he pulled it off and stored it in it’s case. He was always awed by the suit, having to just look at it and how freaking amazing it was and that it was his. Now, he just closed the case and put it away in his closet so May wouldn’t find it. He put some boxes of his LEGOs on top of it so she wouldn’t ask about it.
He grabbed a change of clothes and went to take a shower and washed the sweat of the day away, then prepare himself something from either a can or a box. His aunt wouldn’t be back until late and he had homework to do, or else he’d still have been out patrolling.
It’s an excuse though, because he’s smart enough to finish it quickly and without too much difficulty. He just couldn’t keep going as he was yelled at with such hatred and hostility.
Maybe things would be better tomorrow.

Tony groaned as he threw down the paper, the New York Times this time and the scathing article that they’d written on the events in Nigeria. The world and especially the press at large (local, nationwide, and world wide) had not been merciful to the Avengers. Tony had been on the receiving end of bad press before, but this was worse than that. People were literally asking for Rogers, Romanov, Wilson and Maximoff’s immediate arrest. There were people that literally had signs that read ‘Burn The Witch’, or demanding for Wanda’s head.
FRIDAY indicated that there was call from another reporter, but he didn’t have time. He was up to his eyes trying to put out the metaphorical fires the others had caused in Lagos, telling them to lie low for the moment. So, he told her to take a message, and tell them he had no comment for any reporters calling asking about Lagos.
The RP team he’d hired for the Avengers was preparing a statement for the press conference that had been called. They needed to get ahead of this before things got any worse, and Tony was worried that things were already there. It was only because he had the President’s ear and trust that the military hadn’t already come to their front door.
He guessed that being detrimental in saving him and his cabinet from death three years ago was paying off. Of course he hadn’t done it for that at the time, but he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially when he, and by extension the Avengers, needed all the support they could get.
Tony had told Vision to try and keep Wanda at the compound for now, while he sorted out the trouble with her stay in the country. The Lagos incident had come at the worst of times, since she was still waiting for her visa to come through and shouldn’t have even been out of the country. Tony hadn’t wanted any of them to go, and knew he should have tried harder to stop Steve from going.
Now it was far too late for regrets.
He picked up the next newspaper, the Daily Bugle and cursed as he saw the slander masquerading as a news article about Spider-Man. That damn J. J. Jameson. He didn’t know what the man had against the young man, but he wasn’t pulling any punches, and some of them were dirty sucker punches.
“Fuck,” he growled, throwing down the newspaper after balling it up. “FRI, call Spider-Man.”
“Connecting to Spider baby’s phone,” the Irish voice intoned. His baby girl had come a long way from when he had activated her after Ultron had killed JARVIS, and then he’d used what remained of his code to make Vision. She had learned while in battle, and while not an ideal situation for her to have been activated, she had done beautifully. FRIDAY still spoke like an A.I. and if it had been then, she wouldn’t have used Tony’s nickname for Spidey. He was so proud of her growth.
“Hello?” the man’s filtered voice came through, so that meant he was either in his suit or had put on the mask to answer the call. Spidey was another one he was proud of, since he had somehow managed to turn his own A.I. against him, and she actively prevented him and FRIDAY from tracking the young man. At least, when he was at home, and since he couldn’t get a hit on his location, it meant he was there now.
“Hey, kid,” he said, kicking the balled up newspaper that had missed the trash can and hit the floor. “How’re you holding up? I saw the... sorry excuse for an article Jameson wrote.”
He heard Spidey sigh and knew the other had also seen it. Of course he had. “Yeah.”
“You know none of it is true, right?”
Tony heard shuffling on his end and wondered if he was getting ready for bed. It was late after all. He probably had school soon, knowing that midterms were coming soon, and from his own college days, Tony knew they were hell.
“Well, some of it is,” he hedged, sounding so lost that it made Tony’s heart clench in his chest.
“None of it,” he said firmly. “You’re a hero, a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and nothing that... man says is true.” He knew he was in college, was likely in his twenties, but it somehow it felt wrong to curse in front of him, or where he could hear. Tony felt such... parental feelings toward him and Peter, that it was ridiculous. He was no one’s father, but he just couldn’t help it.
“You keep doing what you’re doing, and don’t let what he says get to you,” he told him. “You’re doing amazing... heh, the Amazing Spider-Man. It has a nice right to it, don’t you think?”
He heard the kid giggle and Tony felt his chest swell with the same feeling as when he managed to make Peter laugh. “Yeah, Mr. Stark,” he agreed.
Tony ran a hand through his hair. “Just... be careful out there, kid. Things are happening that... worry me. I don’t want you to get involved in something dangerous.” He set FRI to start saving and closing his windows, since he was too stressed to get anything else done tonight.
“I’ll be careful, Mr. Stark,” he reassured.
“Would it kill you to call me Tony?” he groused.
“Have a good night, Mr. Stark,” he emphasized cheekily.
“Such sass,” Tony grumbled. “Good night, brat.”
He waited till he heard the click of the call ending to sigh. “FRI, just... keep an eye on him when he’s out there.” He didn’t want anything to happen to the kid, still so young and idealistic. Tony wanted Spidey to maintain that... innocence for as long as possible. He wanted to keep him away from the Accords, or more specifically, from signing them, since he knew the Accords panel would insist on him unmasking.
Tony knew he had his reasons for not wanting to reveal his face and wanted to keep it that way for as long as possible. He wouldn’t reveal his identity to even Tony and he’d be damned if he let someone else strong-arm him into doing it before he was ready, if he ever was.
He decided to try to get some sleep, but he doubted he’d fine able to actually rest.
- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
Harley looked around at the room that Tony had given him almost a month ago, so very different than what he was use to. The walls had Star Wars posters and once more he resisted the urge to rip them down, since despite his ignorance on his preferences, Tony had tried. He’d definitely take them down at one point soon though, just not rip them. His mama had taught him better than to destroy something that had been given to him without having earned it. And boy had Tony really outdone himself.
There was a brand new laptop on the desk, which had a comfortable looking chair and a those state of the art lamps you tapped to turn on and off. There was also a ginormous bed that was way too big for him, but not that he was complaining. His old mattress had been a twin and it had been lumpy for the longest time. They just didn’t have the money to buy on new one, and hadn’t begrudged his mother having spent money they didn’t have to buy one for Abbie, since she couldn’t fit in her tiny bed anymore.
The walls were white but Tony had said that he could paint them, but he didn’t really care either way. When he felt more at ease in their situation, he’d ask for the means to get some Star Trek posters, and not Star Wars. The room itself was also about twice as big as the one at home, probably three times bigger. He really liked the shelves that had textbooks of mechanical engineering on them, and couldn’t wait to read them. Maybe later though.
At the moment, he was really tired. They’d packed quickly, taking only what they could carry, and Tony had reassured his mama that the rest of their stuff would either be put in storage or tossed out. Honestly, if they weren’t planning on returning, it was likely best that everything be thrown away. Or burned in the case of his old ass bed.
The furniture had all been bought second hand at a flea market and their neighbor, Fred had let them use his pick-up truck to haul it home. Their old (not that the ones they bought had been new or anything) furniture had been falling apart, and with money being tight they had to make due. They weren’t super poor or anything, but with only their mom’s job at the diner, money was tight, even when she tended to do double shifts with little sleep in between. Harley wished he was a little older so he could also get a job, but she always insisted that he needed to study, get good grades so he could go to college and get out of that small town.
Harley had been sure that even with getting good grades, he wouldn’t have gone to college. After all, colleges cost money and they barely made it without having to worry about paying for him to do more schooling. He’d planned on getting a job as a mechanic as soon as he could and then one day maybe buy out Mr. Diaz. The man had no children and he was getting old, and while not the best plan, it had been one. The only one he could think of in his thirteen years of knowledge.
Now here they were, in New York and his mom had been given a position as assistant to Pepper Potts’ PA. While it mostly consisted of making coffee, placing food orders, making copies and taking documents to certain floors, it still paid better than when she was working double shifts at the diner. Abby was going to a middle school with a good dance program, and he would start at a brain school in the Fall, and Tony had insisted he pay for tuition for both. With his attending this school, he’d have a real shot at a good school; maybe even MIT.
He threw himself on the bed with a sigh, hair still damp from the shower he’d taken and closed his eyes. Tomorrow he was going to meet Tony’s intern, who was supposedly his age. He was also going to go to the same school as him, and would have met him sooner, but he still had school for about another month when he’d gotten to New York. Harley hadn’t known how different schools were depending on which state you were in. Down south schools usually started at the beginning of August, but in the North, they apparently started at the beginning of September. And since term had ended for Harley, that meant that he would have an extra month of summer vacation.
“This is going to be the best summer ever,” he mumbled, and moments later he was drifting off.
- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
John was unable to stop a whimper of pain as he was dropped onto the bed that might as well have been the floor with how hard it was, his eyesight obscured with tears and sweat, and what might have been blood. He wasn’t sure. John wasn’t sure about a lot of things, like where he was, what was going to happen to him, or how long he’d been there. They didn’t tell him anything, only dragged him out of his cell at least once a day to poke and prob at him.
They usually didn’t harm him besides stabbing him with needles every day, but today he had tried to escape. It hadn’t ended well for him, since the soldier had beaten him until he’d lost consciousness which really didn’t take much if he was honest. While he resented his parents for having turned their backs on him, they had been good parents as he had been growing up and had never struck him. John could be a bit hot-headed, but he was well liked and had never gotten in too many fights. He wasn’t use to being hit. So, it had only taken two good hits until he was down.
He could feel blood in his mouth and tried to spit it out, but it only dribbled down his mouth and over his chin. “Fuck,” he grumbled, wiping at the blood with the back of his hand. He wasn’t sure how much he could take, or even how long they’d keep him alive. John needed to get out, but perhaps thinking of a better plan other than trying to jump the guard was a start.
John had been sure he had a bit of a chance since it was a single guard, and the guy was several inches shorter than him. However, he should have known that being there and left alone meant he was clearly highly trained, and that was proven when he reacted quickly and efficiently when John tried to knock the gun out of his hand.
He’d been on the floor in mere seconds.
John wasn’t even aware of how he’d done it, but knew that he couldn’t try it again. He was already going through enough with the doctors that stuck him with needles every day, so he wanted to avoid losing anymore blood. The sixteen year old was just getting restless, since he wanted to get out of here. John may not have a home anymore, but he knew that he could still have some semblance of a life. He just needed to get out of here with that life in order for that to happen.
“Mr. Allerdyce,” he heard as the door of his cell was opened. John looked up from the bed to see the old man, whom he now recognized. He hadn’t before since he hadn’t really kept up with politics of anything, but he’d heard one of the scientist call the old guy Thaddeus Ross. He’d recognized the name then; he was the fucking Secretary of State. That meant that he had no chance of being able to live a normal life if he managed to escape. That meant that he would have to leave the country, but he didn’t know where or how he would be able to leave. He had no job skills, not even a high school diploma, and no money. John was starting to think that he wouldn’t be getting out of here, ever.
He sat up as best as he could, but he felt dizzy from the hit to the head when he’d fallen after the soldier had laid him out. “What do you want?” he asked, trying not to aggravate where they’d taken blood and pumped him with something that might have been a mild sedative. It had worn off quickly, which is why he’d felt confident that he could go through with his crazy plan.
“To discuss your test results,” he said as he stepped aside as one of the mercenaries accompanying him could set down a folding chair that he sat in. Although, now that he knew who he was, he had a sinking feeling that the ones that had attacked him weren’t mercenaries at all. They were perhaps real soldiers, the ones that were meant to protect them, not kidnap kids like him off the street. “My scientists have had a fun time studying your DNA.”
John frowned, not quite understanding. He hadn’t been the best at biology or anything having to do with science. His best subjects had mostly been reading, world history and social studies. “What about it?” he asked, not wanting to look too dumb in front of this man. He might decide that he wasn’t worth keeping alive, or that it would be better to keep him permanently sedated. Then he’d never have any chance of escape, or even survival.
“Well, in simple terms, there’s something different in your genes. You have an X and Y chromosome, all males do. Only, there’s something different in your X chromosome, a mutation you could say.” He waved in the vague direction of his hands. “That’s how you can do what you do with your hands... control fire. Very impressive, actually. I saw the video from my soldier’s body cams.”
“So, what does that mean exactly?”
“It means that any children you might make have the possibility to have this mutation in their genes.” He clapped and stood. “However, to determine that with any certainty, we need to run more tests.”
John cringed away, since he was tired of being poked with needles. He just wanted to go home, even if his parents didn’t want him there anymore. The teenager missed his bed and he could even admit missing going to school and doing homework. He just wanted to be free of this place.
“Oh don’t worry, we’ve learned all we can from you. We’re ready to move on.”
John was confused. “What? Move on?” He felt terror at thinking they might kill him now, or something worse.
Ross turned to him. “Yes, to your father to see if he has the mutation, and from there, others like you.” The same soldier came forward to take the chair, and John wondered if he could get the weapon away from him. Then he realized that he didn’t know how to even fire a weapon. There was likely a safety switch, and he had no idea if it was on or how to take it off.
So, in the end he did nothing. As he was left alone, he curled up as if he could hide away from everything that was happening to him, but he knew that there would be no escape.-

New writer ask meme... how about You've got mail Coldflash AU with tons of angst and tons of smut and fluff towards the end??
(WHAT are you doing to me!)
Barry Allen owns and runs his mother’s bookshop, which he practicallygrew up in and has worked at all his life. His mother died from a B&E whenhe was 10, but that just makes the shop more special to him. His father passedaway last year after a heart-attack, and ever since, Barry has been even moreobsessed with staying in the shop rather than going out with friends or datingor anything outside of work.
Iris, his best friend since school days, keeps trying to gethim to just DATE and live his life, but Barry never confessed that his firstlove was HER, and now she’s married and pregnant with her first child, and thatjust makes it harder even though Barry knows he needs to move on.
His employees are great friends too, though they’re a littlesubtler about how they try to get him out of the shop. Cisco will ask Barryover for video game nights, and Caitlin will invite Barry along to theaterexcursions, but Barry hates being a third wheel with her husband, as nice asRonnie is. HR is great too, he’s just a little…difficult to handle in largedoses. Plus, the guy seems far too obsessed with this popular romance author,E.B. Thawne, which Barry accused Iris’s husband of being once, but Eddie swearsit’s just a coincidence that their names are so similar.
“Besides, my middle name is Richard, Barr.”
(The romance novelist is HR, using the pseudonym of EobardThawne but changing it to EB to be more like HR. He totally got the idea ofusing Thawne after meeting Eddie and Iris. He works at Barry’s shop for fun, since he makes A LOT of money from his writing.)
Cisco and Caitlin have started reading those romance novelstoo, which is highly inappropriate to be pouring over during shop hours. Barry’sbookstore is for CHILDREN.
Or at least it should be, if they can survive the corporategiant moving in around the corner, Rogue Books. Lisa Snart is the face of thecompany, “A really nice face too,” Cisco has said on more than one occasion, but her partner and brother Leonard Snart is known as the real shark behind thebusiness. He’s so ruthless, they call him Captain Cold. It’s terrible the waythis powerhouse is ruining family owned businesses like Barry’s. The ScarletReader is everything a little book store should be.
At least Barry has his secret pen pal, who he met one nighton a message board support group for people who’ve lost their parents. No realnames or details are given, it’s just the chance for people with similarexperiences to connect and vent – like group therapy for busy people (or inBarry’s case, people who don’t get out much.)
WynterNights72 is just so easy to talk to. He lost hismother when he was young too, and his father passed away a few years ago, justlike Barry’s passed away last year. Of course Wynter didn’t have a goodrelationship with his father like Barry did, but it’s still a similar tale ofwoe.
They don’t even chat about their folks much anymore, justrandom things. They created their own private board so they can leave eachother messages whenever they want and keep it between them. It’s nice to havesomeone to talk to who doesn’t know Barry’s real name, someone whose face Barryhas never seen.
Of course he likes to imagine the guy is attractive andsuccessful and totally smitten with Barry like Barry is with him, but he couldnever actually do anything about it. They’re just pen pals. The only thingBarry knows is that the man also lives in Central City. It would be insane toever be more than friends.
Meanwhile, Leonard Snart runs Rogue Books as joint CEO withhis sister and their childhood friend, Mick Rory, who handles the logisticswhen it comes to demolition and construction of new stores. Len has a greatteam who handles financials, staffing, marketing, allowing Lisa to be thespokesperson and Len to stick to the shadows.
Len has learned to be cold because he has to be, that’s whathas made Rogue Books so successful. It certainly wasn’t his father’s effortswhen he was still alive running the company. The only thing Lewis was ever goodfor was giving Len the best sister he could ask for…and the best littlebrother.
Michael is only seven. He was two when Lewis died, so hebarely remembers him, and thinks more of Len as his father figure. Michael’smother has full custody but she lets Len and Lisa take Michael and spend timewith him whenever they want.
Outside of Lisa, Mick, and a few close coworkers, Len doesn’treally have friends. He’s odd friends with a few of his exes, but he figureswhat’s the point in dating when he always loses in love? Lisa tried to convincehim to go to counseling, that maybe if he had someone else to talk to it’d beeasier to open up to a potential partner someday.
So Len found his way to that message board, because he doesn’tDO therapy, and met Runner_in_Red. He can tell by the occasional reference thatthis guy is a few years younger than he is, but he’s just so easy to talk to.Len’s never had a friend quite like Red, and he likes having him all to himself, like a secret. Sometimes, he wishes he had the courage to ask for them to meet, but he doesn’t want to ruin what they have. So he pines in private, wonderingwhat Red might look like on the other side of that screen.
It’s one day when Len is spending the afternoon with Michaelthat his little brother insists on going into the bookshop they pass along thestreet. Len feels a little awkward about the whole thing, because this place isthe competition he’s currently running into the ground with his new megastorearound the block, but he wants to encourage Michael’s love of reading.
They stumble upon a children’s circle, where a young man isdoing an impressive and adorably engaging reading from The Runaway Dinosaur, which was always one of Len’s favorite children’s books too. Len is instantlycharmed—until he realizes that the young man is Barry Allen, the shop’s owner. Shit. Len cannot let this kid know thatthe enemy walked through his door, so he introduces himself as Len.
“Just Len.”
Of course, Michael thinks that Len’s nickname as CaptainCold is awesome, “Like a superhero!” So when Len and Barry are talking, andBarry mentions that they’re trying to stay afloat against the evil Captain Coldaround the corner, Michael spouts off his newest spelling word.
“C-O-L-D. Just like—”
“Well, we need to be going,” Len says and quickly makes scarce, pushing Michael out the door.
His getaway doesn’t save him for long though as he runs intoBarry at a party later that week and the cat is out of the bag about who Lenreally is.
This devolves into their very intense rivalry as bookstoreowner nemeses, while privately at home Len and Barry are each asking Wynter andRed for advice…as they slowly fall more and more in love with the pen pal they’venever met.
