9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 6, tenth episode "In a Flash" which originally aired March 6, 2023. This episode was written by Juan Carlos Coto and directed by Bradley Buecker. Spoilers ahead!
Tumblr media
***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1***The 118 wrestled with the Santa Ana winds. Maddie and Chimney purchased a "haunted" house. Denny asks about his birth parents and goes to meet his birth dad. Bobby's friend and sponsor, Wendell, is found burnt alive and Bobby suspects the rehab center he was staying at is responsible.
Now that we're all caught up, let's talk about episode ten - IN A FLASH.
We start at the beach. We see a man named Ibrahim (Kenajuan Bentley) with his children Rasha (Jordyn Curet) and Omar (Teagan Johnson). Ibrahim sleeps while his children play. They decide to  bury him in the sand while he's asleep. When he wakes up, he appears amused by their prank. The two kids pour water on him and seconds later he is hit by a bolt of lightning. We then see blood on the sand.
Title card!
Tumblr media
The 118 arrived on the scene. Ibrahim is bleeding profusely. Buck posits that when the bolt of lightning hit the sand, it created glass. The glass is what's cutting into the man. The kids apologize profusely while Eddie, Chimney, and Hen work to remove Ibrahim from the sand. Buck tends to the kids and keeps them calm. We see a piece of glass has pierced Ibrahim's carotid artery but since the glass was hot, the wound has been cauterized. There's also another piece of glass in Ibrahim's arm which causes him to squirt more blood. This whole scene was nauseating. So much blood! Eddie makes a tourniquet and he, Chimney, and Hen are able to remove Ibrahim from the sand so he can be transported to the hospital. Buck tells Rasha and Omar they can ride in the engine.
At the dispatch center, we see everyone's favorite news anchor, Dwight Meyerson (Rick Chambers) talking about dry thunderstorms. We then see Maddie tell Josh that her parents are coming into town. We also learn that Albert is arriving from Korea at the same time. Sounds like we're about to have a Buckley-Han reunion.
Tumblr media
We then head over to Maddie and Chimney's new house where the two of them are prepping for the arrival of Albert and Mr. and Mrs. Buckley. Maddie is worried about her mother judging the house and her choice in decor. We learn that the Buckleys helped with the downpayment on the home which is honestly surprising. The last time we saw the Buckleys, they were very judgmental of Maddie and Buck. Speaking of Buck, he arrives with Margaret and Phillip Buckley (Dee Wallace and Gregory Harrison). This is their first time meeting their granddaughter, Jee-Yun. The first thing that's apparent is these are not the same people we saw two seasons ago. The Buckleys seem really chill. It's almost disturbing. The doorbell rings and when Chimney goes to answer, we see not only Albert standing on the doorstep, we see Chimney's father, Sang Han (David Young Lee) and his stepmother, Han Myung-Soon (Jennie Baek).
Over at the Wilsons', Hen notices Denny has a catcher's mitt. When she asks him about it, he tells her he bought it with his allowance. Hen is confused because she assumed Denny was into soccer. Denny tells her that baseball is way cooler.
Tumblr media
Back over the Maddie and Chimney's, we see the Buckleys and the Hans break bread together. Chimney talks to Albert outside. He is clearly upset with Albert spring their dad and his stepmother on him at the last minute. Albert tells Chimney he didn't bother mentioning he was bringing his parents because he knew Chimney would say 'no'. Albert looks through the window and comments that they almost look like a family but Chimney isn't convinced. Albert points out that Jee-Yun deserves to have a grandfather. Now I'm sorry Albert but I think that's something Chimney should decide, not you, since Chimney is the parent.
In our next scene we see Athena and May at the same treatment facility that Bobby's sponsor Wendell was at before he died. Immediately I noticed how rough May looked and then it was revealed that she and Athena were pretending to be an addict and addict's mother, respectively. May's alias is Jada while Athena's is Mrs. Grier. The two of them meet with the owners, Trey and Carrie Walsh (Chris Johnson and Alicia Coppola). While Athena talks with Trey and Carrie, May is given a tour by a former resident named Tamara (Diana Lu). Trey and Carrie tell Athena that May can stay at the facility but it will cost $100,000.
Tumblr media
Athena and May relay their findings to Bobby. Bobby is shocked to hear about the costs. We learn that this facility has had five recent deaths that have gone uninvestigated. Athena mentions that the facility is very private, and very exclusive. We also learn that it's been four months since Wendell's death and Bobby is intent on figuring out what happened to him. Over at the firehouse, Bobby sees a photo of him and Wendell taped to the area where he stores his gear. We then hear thunder. In an interesting turn of events, we see Buck in the kitchen making chili. He asks Bobby to try what he's cooked and Bobby shares his secret ingredient with Buck which is cocoa powder. While Buck cooks, Bobby continues to search for more information regarding the treatment facility. He tells Buck that Athena is losing patience but Buck is very supportive and encourages him to keep digging.
Tumblr media
Back at the Grant-Nash house, May asks Athena about Bobby. We hear more thunder. Athena says Bobby has never been good when it comes to no-win situations. To make matters worst, it seems like Wendell's family are coming around to the idea that Wendell did overdose. May thinks that maybe they shouldn't so easily accept that story. She tells Athena she created a fake Instagram with her alias Jada and she's now following Tamara. Tamara's Instagram is filled with posts about her road to recovery but there is a gap in posting that happens to coincide with Wendell's death. Back at the firehouse, Chimney talks to Buck Eddie, and Hen about the family dinner. Eddie points out that Albert does have a point about Jee-Yun needing her grandparents.
Tumblr media
We then see a pregnant woman named Ely (Teya Patt) in labor in the back of an Uber. Her driver Sergei (Konstantin Podprugin) is rushing to get her to the hospital. This scene was so hard to watch because I knew something bad was going to happen but nothing could ever prepare me for what happened next. The car is struck by lightning which deploys the airbags. Sergei drives off a bridge and the car lands on the road below. The car is on fire when the 118 arrive at the scene. They first put out the fire and then Bobby goes to check on the driver who tells him that lightning hit the car causing the airbags to deploy. He falls unconscious. Bobby then goes to check on Ely and he notices that the umbilical cord is wrapped around a part of the car. Ugh! Buck gets a saw but just as he's about to use it to cut the woman out, he sees gasoline on the ground. He tells Bobby he can't use the saw because the sparks could ignite the gasoline.
Tumblr media
The 118 manages to remove Ely from the car but we see that the baby is no longer inside of her. Bobby speculates that upon impact, the baby was launched out of the mother. Double ugh!! Hen tells Bobby that the umbilical cord is the baby's lifeline and without it the baby will lose oxygen. Bobby finds the baby wedged between the car and removes it. Hen revives the driver while Bobby and Buck tend to the baby. The baby is not crying and Bobby starts to freak out. The baby eventually cries (thank God) and Bobby welcomes him to the world. Buck takes the baby from Bobby because Buck always gets to hold the babies. Thankfully everyone - Ely, Sergei, and the baby - is okay! It's a happy ending to a gruesome story.
May runs into Tamara buying flowers. She tells her she would like to talk to Tamara about Wendell and Tamara tells her to talk to Trey and Carrie instead. May brings up the five deaths and Tamara accuses her of being a ccp. Tamara tells May that Wendell died OD'ed in a field but it's clear she's hiding something.
Tumblr media
Buck arrives at Maddie and Chimney's place. Buck gets a text with a sonogram picture and shows it to Albert. Margaret Buckley thinks the sonogram is Chimney and Maddie's new baby. When Buck explains to her that he donated his sperm to his former roommate Connor and his wife, Sang Han comments that it's unnatural. He asks Phillip how he could allow such a thing to happen. Phillip gets upset and it's dad against dad and mom against mom. Now everyone is arguing which upsets Jee-Yun. Then the power goes out.
Over at the Wilsons', Hen talks to Denny about his new love for baseball. When she leaves his room, he picks up his iPad and we see that he's talking to his birth father Nathaniel Green (Troy Winbush). Nathaniel asks Denny if he's told Hen and Karen that they're communicating and Denny tells him 'not yet'. I find it extremely weird that Nathaniel is entertaining this. If I were him and Denny showed up on my doorstep, the first thing I would've done is go straight to Hen and Karen. This situation is not going to end well, especially when Hen and Karen find out.
Tumblr media
Back at Maddie and Chimney's pace, Sang Han apologizes to Phillip Buckley. Chimney is shocked to hear his dad apologize. Chimney is still holding on to the hurt he has from his father abandoning he and his mom. Can't say that I blame him. Buck talks to Maddie and asks her if she ever thinks about what life would be like if Daniel had lived. Maddie says sometimes.
We end the episode with the 118 responding to a fire at a huge building. Chimney is about to climb but Buck decides to go instead. We see Buck climb the ladder. A bolt of lightning strikes Buck, knocking him off the ladder. He is suspended in mid-air and not moving. Eddie goes after him and it honestly hurt my heart and soul when I heard Eddie calling out for Buck and Buck not answering. They manage to get Buck down and Hen discovers he doesn't have a pulse. What touched me the most during this sad scene is Bobby calling Buck "kid". Me and my mom like to joke that Bobby and Athena are Buck's real parents and scenes like this show just how much Bobby cares for Buck. Chimney starts to administer CPR but Bobby tells him to get Buck into the ambulance so Eddie can drive them to the nearest hospital. When the ambulance pulls off, the last thing we see is Buck's helmet lying on the ground while rain beats down on it.
Tumblr media
9-1-1 is back and I must say, this is how you do an episode after a three-month hiatus! I feel like the writers did a great job of balancing the three storylines in this episode. The only character we really didn't get to touch base with this episode is Eddie. I love that Maddie and Chimney are settling into their new home and I'm glad to see that Jee-Yun is the catalyst for bringing the two families together. I do sympathize with Chimney and I hope that he takes Hen's advice and tells his dad how he really feels. Oh, and maybe Chimney should make an appointment to see a therapist. The whole Denny seeing his birth father behind Hen and Karen's back story is concerning to me. I get that Denny is wanting to know things about his birth parents but I think Nathaniel is making things worse by encouraging these interactions with Denny without notifying Hen and Karen.
My favorite storyline of the night is the one involving Bobby, Athena, and May. We spent the beginning of this season watching Athena solve a decades-old mystery back in her hometown and Bobby was there every step of the way, Now it's Athena's turn to help Bobby. I hope this investigation into Wendell's death does cause Bobby to lose his sobriety. I hope May doesn't get too involved either. She seems to be enjoying playing the role of Jade but I worry she may end up getting hurt and then we're gonna see a side of Athena we don't wanna see.
My final thought is regarding our sweet, baby boy, Buck. His life is hanging in the balance and it looks like next episode he's going to be in a coma. Poor Buck has been through so much. He nearly choked to death in season one. He got crushed by a firetruck in season two. He nearly drowned during the tsunami in season three. The poor kid has been through so much and he's only thirty years old as we learned in this episode. I know Buck is going to be alright but it's still hard seeing him get hurt. I'm excited to see what happens next on 9-1-1. Until next time ...

lately i’ve been really enjoying ana wallace johnson’s videos it’s not even that we read the same books (i don’t think we have a single reading experience in common ok i lied we both read the idiot by elif batuman) but she is lovely to listen to. literally just saying this bc her new year’s resolution is to reach 10k subscribers and i’m invested in the participation of making people’s dreams come true in any capacity. also i think she’s an actress? going 2 manifest a tv show/movie for her inshAllah

The morning of May 18th, eight high school students and two teachers lost their lives in Santa Fe, Texas, the sixth fatal school shooting of 2018. That same night, a woman was killed on the campus of Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, Georgia. The students leave behind empty desks and diplomas. They all leave futures and families and friends, a painful collection of what-ifs. Each of their stories is unique, yet they each converge on a painful truth: They died at one of our schools. We said, “Never again.” But again is now. Today, we add the names of the most recent victims to our list of those we’ve lost in school shootings since Columbine. This list serves to keep our collective memory of these victims alive, but it also reminds us of the terrible human cost of gun violence; the terrible cost of insufficient support for troubled young people; and the terrible cost of our national complacency., eight high school students and two teachers lost their lives in Santa Fe, Texas, the sixth fatal school shooting of 2018. The best available players after Round 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft
Tumblr media
Washington quarterback Jacob Eason is the biggest name yet to be drafted, but he’s not the best player out there.
As expected, several runs on positions happened on Day 2. In the second round, four of the first 13 picks were used on safeties. The round also featured five running backs after only one was selected in the first round.
Wide receivers also continued to be popular. After six were taken in the first round, seven were picked in the second round and four in the third round.
After 106 picks, there are still plenty of talented players remaining in the 2020 NFL Draft. There are some big names, too. The biggest is Washington quarterback Jacob Eason. The thought was that he’d be picked on Day 2 of the draft, but only one quarterback went off the board with the Philadelphia Eagles taking Jalen Hurts in the second round.

Una pica en el Artxanda
Tumblr media
Fecha: 15-II-2020. Lugar: Palacio Euskalduna, Bilbao. Programa: La fanciulla del West, ópera en tres actos de Giacomo Puccini. Protagonistas: Oksana Dyka (Minnie), Marco Berti (Dick Johnson, alias Ramerrez), Claudio Sgura (Jack Race), Francisco Vas (Nick), Manel Esteve (Sonora), Paolo Battaglia (Ashby), Manuel de Diego (Trin), Isaac Galán (Sid), Carlos Daza (Bello), Jorge Rodríguez-Norton (Harry), Gerardo López (Joe), José Manuel Díaz (Happy), Fernando Latorre (Larkens), Cristian Díaz (Billy Jackrabbit / José Castro), Itxaro Mentxaka (Wowkle), David Lagares (Jake Wallace), Santiago Ibáñez (Postiglione). Coro: Ópera de Bilbao. Orquesta: Sinfónica de Euskadi. Director de escena: Hugo de Ana. Director musical y maestro concertador: Josep Caballé Domenech.
