Continuing on the religion thoughts/rambles
I just think that a really interesting comparison could be made between ghouls and needing to eat human flesh/blood and like communion/the eucharist?? Like hear me out,
You could probably already draw the connection with people having to eat the actual body and blood of christ and ghouls needing to human flesh. There's also the fact that this practice is an actual necessity for ghouls, like they depend on it to live, as it's the only thing they can consume that'll actual sustain them (unlike coffee), which makes it sacred in a way (not to mention ghouls treat humans/human bodies in a special way that doesn't translate to humans, for example donato mentions how they view the head as the "centerpiece" of a meal, and it is a special part of ghoul meals, we see Yomo put his hands together and bow his head before collecting corpses, the way Shuu acts about his gourmet meals sometimes (also reminding me of a line I saw once in a tg fic, "Not the blood of Christ but certainly the blood of someone else"), etc., just the way that (by some at least) it's held in high honor, and it is a sacrifice).
There's also the fact that hunger will drive ghouls to insanity (and cannibalism still slowly eats away at their minds), the only way they can be "saved" from this fate is consuming human flesh
There's this one verse; John 6:53 that has multiple variations but generally goes “Unless you eat my body and drink my blood, there is no life in you" While it can be very symbolic in the context of religion for ghouls it would be very literal, as they have no choice but to consume the body and blood of humans or they slowly and painfully die
Just. Something something comparison between ghouls eating humans and communion, something something corruption of religious ideas because the lives of ghouls and their need to kill and feed off of humans is regarded as a sin/sinful. Does this make sense.
Ummm I was gonna try and fit that in with amoneki but I ran out of thought juice orz. Tbf I think this kind of connection/irony would definitely not be lost to Kaneki, I think he'd have some interesting thoughts on that as well I just forgot where I was going with this :skull:

Hi, do you think Amon would have made a better king than Kaneki? Because honestly, i think Kaneki's reason would not make a strong foundation for a peace. And, i laughed way too hard at amoneki and toukira :D, that amoneki scene tho!
Hey Anon! Haha, thanks for reading! xD
About Amon being a better king though, honestly no, I don’t think so…
Tumblr media
He said it himself, even though he became a OEG, he’s not ready to fight for the ghoul’s side, even if he probably doesn’t entirely reject the idea of a coexistence between ghouls and humans.
Amon might appear to be more noble when what Kaneki said in the new chapter seemed to be so selfish in comparison, but I think deep down they’re the same, you know?
It’s because Amon had the childhood he had that he came to resent ghouls, yet becoming a OEG didn’t make him like ghouls more nor did he start to despise people like Mado Kureo, on the contrary.
Tumblr media
Kaneki is the one who made him realize that ghouls didn’t have to be the monsters the CCG depicted and Amon is aware that this world “is wrong”, but in the end he fights for the people he cares about (Akira, Takizawa, Kurona), exactly like Kaneki.
Tumblr media
Honestly Anon… I might be lacking enough basis to really vouch for this silly idea of mine but, the more we get chapters like the last 3, the more I tell myself that Touka would be a good alternative for the King/Queen role, instead of Kaneki or Amon.
Not that I’m going to start rambling but… it looks like she’s the less selfish character for many different reasons and she wants the coexistence too, so theoretically speaking, I think she could make a good “queen”, even if the fact she’s a ghoul and less famous than Kaneki (”who killed Arima”) would make it harder for her, on top of not knowing if Ishida-sensei even wants for this to happen. xD
Anyway, Amon, Takizawa and Kaneki are more or less the same to me :) It’s just that Amon is just more honest with his feelings and doesn’t pretend wanting to Fight For the Greater Good™ when he just wants to protect the people he cares about.
I hope I managed to answer your question :) Have a nice weekend Anon! ^^
Tumblr media
Hey Anon :)
I agree, I don’t think Kaneki not fighting for coexistence means that he cannot truly feel that he only wants to fight (mainly) for ghouls because most of the people he cares about are ghouls (with the Qs, Akira and Hide as the exceptions I guess), but then again, Kaneki’s selfish answer is understandable. :/
Tumblr media
He had a really rough childhood and, according to Ishida himself, Hide was basically the only reason Kaneki managed to deal with his loneliness until he met Touka and the rest of Anteiku, but that’s just the beginning of his story.
I really think Kaneki is still depressed, even if Arima’s death gave him a false purpose that allowed him to stay alive for a little while longer. So him saying that he only fights for the people he cares about isn’t surprising in the least for me (I was mostly surprised to see him admitting it so easily to Amon in the first place).
So you’re right, Kaneki’s answer is probably too simple when he’s supposed to act as the OEK and make people believe in him but… This answer might be all that he can cling to for now…
Tumblr media
And it’s better than nothing at all, as depressing as it sounds. :/
Thanks for passing by Anon, I hope my thoughts made sense. :)
Have a nice weekend!
Tumblr media
Look just above Anon-chan! :D And also you can look at this post too!
Have a nice weekend and thanks for passing by! ^3^
Tumblr media
Hey Anon ^^ Look just above and at this post too! :)
Actually I really liked the chapter, even if it felt really depressing because of…
Akira’s confusion and pain
Amon being hurt about Akira’s rejection
Kaneki admitting that the chain that’s holding him to life is simply :Re and the pretense that he can fulfill Arima’s wish half-heartedly
Touka being actually less scared to go and face Akira rather than to face Kaneki and ask him for a talk again
no sign of Hinami meaning she’s probably not doing better :/
Rize in a tank again and being used again by Furuta and V to turn poor kids into massive killing machines :/
So I loved it, but it hit right in the kokoro with all the feels. ;_;
I hope you enjoyed it too, Anon! Thanks for passing by and please have a nice weekend :3

Also, your 'Amon stays in the CCG and works with Haise' AU is fantastic and should have been canon. Poor Amon misses Eyepatch terribly (he still has QUESTIONS damnit!) but doesn't want to get Haise (or Akira) in trouble, so he can't really say much, but he and Haise get suspicious of the CCG being corrupted. They investigate together, but they have to be discreet and they HATE IT, the CCG is supposed to represent justice! Inner!Kaneki drops hints and nags Haise in the background constantly.
YESSSSS GOD AMON AND HAISE NOT INTERACTING IN :RE WAS SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO ME I WAS SO GENUINELY SURPRISED WHEN THEY NEVER DID
In the context of my AU I think Amon would feel so let down by the emergence of the Quinx project. He's spent all this time investigating the CCG's suspicious sides and almost uncovered what they were really aiming to do and then it just gets. Announced, just like that. That they're putting ghoul organs in people to use as weapons. It feels wrong. Everything clicks terribly into place. But he can't say anything. And Eyepatch is gone already (or so he Thinks) It all feels anti-climatic, somehow.
Then he meets this new investigator, who shakes his hand and greets him cheerily. He's being mentored by Akira. They are to treat him as a human unless he loses control, to which they'll treat him as a ghoul. It's Eyepatch. It's Haise Sasaki. Amon has to stomach the thought of both working with him and potentially having to "erase" him if he remembers who he is. He likes Haise, even if he's different from Eyepatch, but Haise might not be around forever, for one reason or another. He's never had to kill a co-worker or friend before. (I think, similar to Akira in canon :re Amon would be assigned a big role in leading squads when the CCG has to keep Haise under control. It only makes sense, he's done significant damage to him before, in half-kakuja form no less, and managed to escape this guy even without a weapon. And he's also like, one of the Only Guys who has ever killed a ghoul with his bare hands before.) Still though, the thought of killing Haise, whether it be with a quinque through the heart or the snap of a neck, is nauseating.
The CCG higher-ups are suspicious, obviously, because Amon is the only one who truly knows Everything about Eyepatch, and he might screw with Haise's memories. They're keeping an eye on him and make sure they don't get too close, unless Amon needs to confront Haise, since Haise, even when losing control, just can't seem to hurt him. Not really at least (if it ever does happen he feels So Guilty) ((Also sidenote but Haise probably visibly winces when he first meets Amon. His head hurts and he's not sure why. He feels melancholic and he doesn't know why. He feels a flood of relief. But he doesn't know why. He likes Amon a lot and wants to get to know him. The white-haired ghoul in his head seems particularly fixated on him, won't stop looking at him. Haise somehow knew Amon's name before he was even told what it was. He surmises that it's just because Amon is so well-known in general. (He knows, deep down, that it might be more than just that)))
Haise has small recollections of memories, but he can't tell anyone, obviously. Sometimes he has nightmares of flower fields and battles under the rain. When he and Amon get closer he tells him a little about them. "It's probably nothing" he laughs, unsure, but Amon knows what they really mean. He sees Eyepatch in Haise and it hurts terribly. He fears the chance that he'll never get to ask the questions he had, almost as much as he fears the chance that one day he suddenly will. The answers he's wanted for so long are so close that they are literally standing right next to him, yet they're so far.
As things move forward they definitely try to investigate and figure out the CCG's corrupt system together. But they have to be careful, on the outside co-workers (including Akira) make comments about how close they are and what a good team they make but within the inner-workings of the CCG they have their careful eyes on them. Maybe Akira's a little weary about it, tells Amon as such sometime and Amon says he knows (but there are things he can't tell even her.) Maybe one time Haise and Amon talk briefly, maybe after or during Haise losing control of himself and he says something and it sounds hauntingly like Eyepatch. Haise had looked at him differently during that moment. His voice sounded different. It was pained, but not in the physical sense. Maybe it wasn't Haise at all, actually.
Haise has a dream once about a man shouting asking him if he really is just a ghoul. Somehow he doesn't feel like it's for him. (But surely it means something to Kaneki Ken). Maybe, like in that comic I drew, Kaneki is incredibly relieved that Amon is alive, but also terribly jealous that all he can do is watch from the shadows LOL
Ough sorry I got SO carried away I've just been meaning to list out some of the details of my AU thoughts for AGES this has been living rent free in my mind for MONTHS it's one of my favorite thoughts Ever
It's insane, how many parallels are setup between Kaneki/Haise and Amon, yet Haise and Amon never meet once, even though Amon is foreshadowed constantly during :re. To be fair there is so much going on in :re already but still, man. Man,

do you think Kaneki might ever pray with Amon despite not being catholic himself? just sitting next to him mumbling the words as Amon says it because he likes to be with him
speaking of religion, what kind of faith do you think Kaneki would follow? I hc him as an atheist :) but I think you know more about religions than me lol
Ooooh I like that idea a lot actually I have So Many Thoughts (rubs my hands together evilly)
also this is just a sidenote but i know some people may be uncomfortable with religious discussion, so if you are lmk and i'll start tagging it
I feel like Amon hasn't prayed often in a while because of his past, but he may still on occasion (habit), and may get back into it properly after actually resolving his feelings with the past. At some point Kaneki starts to join him. He doesn't really know How to pray, especially since a lot of it is in silence, he probably just kneels there and silently wishes for safety for his friends, for strength and resolve, etc. etc. But when Amon starts saying the actual prayers out loud he just sits there and listens to him quietly saying them.
At some point Kaneki might start mumbling along with them, he vaguely knows some of the prayers and has heard Amon say them enough times to kind of know them. Amon is surprised when Kaneki starts doing that and it just kind of becomes a Thing; maybe Kaneki even asks Amon to tell him how to pray the rosary since he sees him doing that often as well (when the rosary is prayed in a group there's one person leading that says the first half of most of the prayers and the rest say the other half, and I think it would be interesting with them alternating like that)
While Kaneki isn't catholic himself he finds it reassuring, while it's unlikely to him that there's someone out there that'll actually grant his prayers it's a nice thought, y'know? It's also just very relaxing there, even if it was kind of awkward at first
I think he also finds the sound of Amon praying very relaxing *cough*
I also think Kaneki would be atheist, while he wouldn't completely deny the possibility of there being a god of some sort he also isn't really a follower of any particular belief system (note: ive actually been informed that there is a better term for this, agnostic, which is essentially being neutral lol). I think Amon would know this, and therefore doesn't really know why Kaneki chooses to pray with him despite this, but he figures that Kaneki does have a lot of things he would want to pray for, things he would want to seek forgiveness for, too, and he appreciates that Kaneki is willing to spend time with him like this anyway.

One random idea I think about a Lot is if Amon and Kaneki encountered each other at a church like,
A tip lands on the CCG's desk about a potential ghoul hideout/sighting at a church, nobody pays it much mind, they get tips like these all the time and there's really not a lot of details to it and they have bigger cases to worry about
Despite that, Amon decides to go investigate it because. He's not exactly Sure but he has. Not quite a Bad Feeling but a Feeling about it. Maybe some leftover intuition from Mado. And when he gets there and steps inside he sees Eyepatch sitting at the pews. Maybe he's kneeling there with his hands together, maybe he's just sitting there and calmly remarks that he didn't expect to see Amon here.
Maybe Kaneki was also pursuing ghouls that were hiding out here, or maybe it's just the two of them and they just Chat (maybe it's after the Lab Incident when Kaneki lost control of himself and he expresses his guilt over losing himself and how he can't really face his friends because of it), Idk !!
(Maybe instead this is all set in :re and the situation is flipped where Haise goes to investigate a church, either because of an anonymous tip or maybe Donato told him to, or hinted that he'd find something Important there
And at this church he encounters a Mysterious Guy who seems to recognize him a lot more than he does this stranger, maybe Haise starts visiting here regularly to talk with him because he seems to be kind and there's Something About Him, who knows,)
((What if both happened in the same universe because Amoneki Parallels Amirite))
I have so many more thoughts about things like this but I will leave it here for now, just. man,
I just think it could be both cool and very silly

Now that I think about it, in your AmonSasa comics (I LOVE them btw, they are adorable), Amon still has both arms... BUT consider the additional angst if Amon survived but lost his arm? On one hand Kaneki is so relieved Amon is alive, but on the other hand oH No I CuT His ARM OFF! Poor Sasaki has no idea why he simultaneously feels this amount of relief and guilt towards this investigator he just met, oh no, why is he crying, this is so embarrassing... And Amon is just frozen, processing it all.
YEAHHHH When I originally drew the comic I think it slipped my mind, admittedly lol, but I've actually thought about it a lot it
I think, similar to other CCG members that had lost limbs in the Owl Operation (Juuzou, Kuroiwa), Amon would eventually be fitted with a prosthetic. Ooh, maybe when Haise and Amon first meet they shake hands, but when their hands meet and Haise stares down at them his face inexplicably falls. The inexplicable feeling of relief he'd felt (so much that he could almost cry) is suddenly swept up and replaced by guilt (also so much that he could also cry, Kaneki's putting Haise through a rollercoaster).
I'd imagine that Akira's definitely there too, and she asks Haise what's wrong, and oh, god, is he crying? He's holding Amon's hand in a death grip, Amon can't really pull away, but that probably doesn't matter since he's frozen in place anyway. On one hand oh god Haise might know something, or maybe he's making him remember, this is what the CCG was so worried about, and Akira's concerned and maybe she and Amon glance at each other worriedly, and Haise's confused but he's also shaking, it's a Mess of a "reunion"/"meeting".
Haise shakes it off, somehow, and decides to hang around with Amon for a lot of the day. When they're alone he apologizes profusely, says that he doesn't know what came over him, and Amon doesn't really know what to say, if there's anything he can say, poor guy probably just has to do his best to awkwardly reassure him LOL.
Haise probably plays it off casually from there, but he still feels a strange pinch of guilt when he looks at Amon's shoulder, or his arm. Kaneki no doubt feels awful about it, maybe one time Haise apologizes about it (for it?) to Amon. Amon is confused (and worried, about his memories) and Haise snaps out of it and says that he's not really sure why he apologized. Amon feels compelled to think that it wasn't Haise that apologized, but he also doesn't want to think about it.
Oh also some additional thoughts with Haise and Akira (First of all sidenote, someone mentioned in a reply that they were wondering if Sasaki would be mentored with Amon or Akira, I imagine he would still be paired with Akira, for a variety of reasons. Like I said while the CCG thinks Amon would be useful for 'extermination' operations, they aren't very comfortable about him and Haise getting too close, also I feel like since Amon would be promoted (he was promoted to First Class I think? in canon after his 'death') he would be busy with operations for higher ranking investigators, and Akira herself was specifically chosen in canon because of her ability to comfort Haise)
That said I think Akira, already weary, would try to keep the slight fiasco of Amon and Haise's first meeting out of discussion if possible, but one day Haise can't help but ask her about what happened to Amon's arm. Akira probably doesn't know what to answer, maybe keeps it vague, then Haise asks if it's similar to Investigator Juuzou, who lost his leg in the Owl Operation, and she has to swiftly shut him down before he can press further. It's not much, but it's a piece of a clue, something that must connect Haise and Kaneki.
Maybe Haise tries asking Kaneki about it once, though the answer isn't too different from what he says in canon ('It's my fault').
Sorry my brain runs on angst can you tell LOL, Amonhaise can be so silly but they can also be such a somber mess under the right circumstances. I think Haise would be confused and lost about it and how it makes him feel, but it would eventually become a massive tell towards his past. Ough thank you again for the banger ask

iirc you’re more into angst, but Haise would attempt to make Amon doughnuts, wouldn’t he? :0 He’d be a good critic too
YEAHHHHHHHHH I think it would be something Haise would pick up pretty fast (but maybe he would have Amon try his first few attempts and they'd be. Well. Amon says they're good at least but when Haise tried giving Juuzou some he visibly Paled)
Amon would probably just try to be Nice at first until Haise gets a More Reliable Taste-Tester, and then once he starts making donuts that are Pretty Good Actually Amon would give him more constructive criticism to refine them
He thinks that it's very touching that Haise would go out of his way to do something like this, despite the fact that he can't even enjoy the things he makes (All the donut making also certainly would help Haise later with the Quinx Squad, although they are left wondering why he makes donuts so often.... And why they're so sweet)

do you think this could be a Kaneki thing to say
LMAO YEAH
Kaneki is Amon's faith. Ever since Amon simply decided to believe that the world was just Wrong Kaneki has been the only break he's gotten from this cycle and he holds onto that So Tightly
Amon has faith in Kaneki in a way that should be borderline Blind for an investigator , when you think about it objectively he really doesn't have that much justification for thinking this wasn't just a Typical Ghoul Backstab when he saw Kaneki eating Shinohara at Kanou's lab, seeing as he'd only seen Kaneki twice and once was like a 5 second encounter 20 feet away
But he held onto that faith anyway, he holds onto that faith and the idea of his 'purity' (that Kaneki can't be/isn't a Murderer, despite the evidence of his brutal actions towards ghouls) even after Kaneki almost kills him in a way that should feel traitorous and contradictory to what he saw at the lab, something that should've proved that Yes actually Kaneki Could and would hurt a human like any other ghoul could, which should technically prove Amon's previous notion that he isn't just another ghoul Wrong (I like clowning on Amon for this so much but also Genuinely Amon what is Up with you. Maybe it's the blood loss maybe it's the shock maybe it's Something Else)
While it's usually Kaneki clinging to Amon's words in the original series, Amon also preaches Kaneki's words, telling Saiko not to be a murderer, likely carrying it as his mantra as he struggles to survive as a ghoul cannibalizing, it's His principles and methods that he sticks to to not lose his own purity and also his own god damn Mind
"turn a man away from god" Right because this should all be contradictory actually because the ghouls are supposed to be the demons here. and yet. And Yet,
hmghsgsdfhblsdjfbhh. I wasn't supposed to go that in-detail I got carried away point is yes he so would say this and also this is Hilarious I love it

003 for the ask: which Kaneki is your favorite to ship with Amon?
Oooh that's an interesting ask (I was gonna answer this earlier but I kinda forgot, oop-) let's go !!
Does this one count?? I feel like this could just be categorized under Shironeki; I'm not really sure if this counts as A Kaneki it's just A State he's in sometimes, but I also can't deny how horribly ill any scenario with Amon and Centipede Kakuja Kaneki makes me. Maybe it's because any situation involving this would probably be a given for angst and/or hurt/comfort but like hear me out (about to spew the most Incomprehensible nonsense at you). Something something bringing back someone from the Brink. Something something trusting someone to have not lost himself completely even after he stares you straight in the eye like he doesn't recognize you at all. There's this one detail in the scene at Kanou's lab where you don't see Kaneki's 'human' eye for (i think) the entire time he's on his rampage except for when he tries to remember Amon and when he tries to remember "this world is wrong" and I just think that's a little fucked up (also the way Amon says "yeah" and almost-smiles because he trusted and knew all along when Kaneki admits he doesn't actually want to kill and eat, guh. and-) and Wow I really need to stop before I end up with another hundred word analysis about that scene okay moving on
Shironeki !! - Peak Amoneki era right there. Ironically I don't have a lot to say, they're just Good (also probably because I dumped a lot of my thoughts on them already with one of the previous asks). They're The Classics yknow ?? You can do whatever you want and it's great, guy who's chasing after another guy who's always just out of his reach, guys who are kindred spirits, guys with the Best Dynamic Ever it's hard to go wrong, really
Haise :)) - While they're different I still want to fit Haise on here because God. They should've interacted. I could've been so insane about them if Amon stayed in the CCG In my heart he's tied on this scale with Shironeki but alas canon couldn't even let Haise see Amon. Haise trying to learn about Amon (with the bonus Live Kaneki Reactions) was very interesting though, I think he would've absolutely Loved him if he got to know him as a colleague. I have that whole au just for that. I just think the blend of silliness and them getting to know each other with the pain of. Haise. And the conflict of trying to separate him from Eyepatch/Kaneki just makes it very well-rounded. Wait what do you mean they never Actually interacted and I just made all that up? What do you mean I had to make an au for all that?? (also sidenote but Amonhaise and Amoneki at the same time is also a really funny dynamic imo )
Kuroneki - It's hard to imagine how their dynamic would be before. Everything, though I suppose them seeing each other after their first encounter but pre-torture could be very interesting. Amon sees the ghoul who basically leapt into the air to tear a chunk out of his shoulder and he's just Some Guy. Internally Kuroneki is like "oh God it's the investigator he's going to kill me I'm the reason his partner died this is it" and Amon's just confused like "this is the really the same guy??? but he's??" That actually reminds me I read a really good tumblr drabble once of Kuro-amoneki that's genuinely pretty great I recommend it :)

this is a pass to do a couple things:
finish the manga!!! u can do it so u can follow all the other blogs without getting blindsided by a spoiler
do the ship ask thingy for amoneki :]
Gahh I'm trying !! I'm so busy with school and life stuff so it's hard to squeeze in time to read but I'm trying! I'm getting through volumes very slowly but hey, I'll get there ! Just. Well. There's 16 volumes so. Okay it might take a bit orz
For now I'll just be in my little fandom limbo corner I suppose orz, as for the ask thingy:
when I started shipping it if I did: Several months ago, probably a few months short of a year? It's a bit complicated, Basically I decided to rewatch the anime (because my original exposure to tg was. the anime :') ) and vaguely remembered that I really liked Amon (honestly the encounter at Kanou's Lab/Cochlea was one of the scenes I remembered the most), and after rewatching and seeing Amon and Kaneki's interactions they piqued my interest again. Then I got into the manga and. Yeah that interest turned into insanity and now i'm here
my thoughts: Well I have a 119-slide 15K+-word google slideshow for starters. But I'm taking that to my grave so I guess I gotta condense that somehow. On one hand I feel like everything needs to be said about these two to the point that there's too much to talk about but also nothing needs to be said at the same time. They parallel each other in just about every way possible, it's impossible to ignore the ways that they foil each other. They also have had irreversible effects on the others' character. Kaneki finds resolve in Amon's words ('the world is wrong'), and turns to them at pivotal moments (when he leaves Anteiku, Kaneki's own mantra is also basically a derivative of Amon's, wishing to take out the "bad/wrong" things in the world, and he basically takes them to his grave, "The world is wrong", Amon's own words, being his opening to his final dialogue in the last chapter of the original series)

Similarily Amon is just haunted by Kaneki. Like. In general. He thinks about him constantly (even under more mundane circumstances, in the novels he gets reminded of Kaneki just by staring out a window because it reminded him of the Aogiri raid. lmao). Kaneki is basically the catalyst to his character development, and Amon is constantly bothered by his presence/existence, and even comes to recognize how they always encounter each other at important moments. Amon is so haunted by This Guy (creature) it's both a little funny but also makes me very insane. He's basically being a failure of a ghoul investigator, and it's even more ironic, given his hatred of himself for being raised by and potentially caring about a ghoul (also he's catholic, something something religious guilt), yet he seems to have a lot of faith in Kaneki, even to a faulty degree (I'd daresay it's almost to the point where he puts Kaneki on a bit of a pedestal/idolizes him to an extent. I have a whole other ramble about Just that on the self-rb'ed half of this post. Like I'm sorry but Amon definitely fell hard for this guy I'll die on this hill and I'm going to poke fun at him endlessly for it, he could've done so much better, he starts off the manga hating ghouls with a passion and his mentor's disdain for ghouls runs ten times as deep but nope now he's chasing after the dangerous somewhat unhinged (/affectionate) half kakuja guy and it's not even to fight/kill him like okay, sure.) They have affected each other in irreversible ways. They reflect each other so much even if they don't know it. They just want to sit down and have a conversation. They didn't get to. And instead They Killed Each Other (okay not really but it was very close and they absolutely could, not that they want that) ((It's also partially Kaneki's fault for losing control of himself and he feels awful for that (sidenote but any scenario with Centineki and Amon make me lose my mind))). They're also married by first-encounter marriage bite, apparently. I think we should talk about that more that's kinda?? Donato approves btw
What makes me happy about them: Everything that makes me miserable about them makes me simultaneously happy about them because I am an Angst Guy but honestly just how much they clearly respect each other. While they're not allowed to understand each other because of their circumstances they still very much Want to. They recognize that they probably share a lot of views and could really have a meaningful conversation with each other, and it really shows, even if they're fighting. Amon again has a surprising amount of trust in Kaneki (not assuming he's fighting for Aogiri when he saw him during the ward 11 battle, having faith in Kaneki as a person even if he just saw him potentially killing his superior and being presented with the possibility that maybe he was just being fooled all along, when he's nearly dying at Kaneki's own hands but says he won't die because that would make Kaneki a murderer, having faith still that he hasn't turned into one). They recognize that they're equals (well technically they're not, obviously Kaneki is much stronger objectively, being a ghoul, and a kakuja at that), but they treat each other as equals and that's what really matters. I just think it's a very neat dynamic and their roundabout way of caring about each other despite their positions makes me happy :)
What makes me sad about them: I was gonna put images but then I quickly realized that I'd basically be pasting almost all of chapter 133-134 just uh. The fact that Kaneki really lost control of himself and the parallel with him biting Amon's shoulder escalates to him cutting off his entire fucking arm, the way that Amon's first thought in regards to that is simply that Kaneki is strong, how he doesn't reprimand him for it whatsoever (also Amon's blow pretty much takes out the entire area of where Kaneki's kakuhou should be, which is a detail I find Extremely Interesting and I think it should genuinely be talked about more). This fucking line that happened literally the panel before all of that despite their mutual wishes for the other to simply Not Die:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amoneki divorce. Absolutely life ruining
(Also just. Again Amon Please. This guy bit your shoulder (probably gave Amon rabies honestly) and almost ate one of your colleagues; when he loses control of himself for the second time you just tell him to take a break, and now he's cut off your whole damn arm and you're Still not complaining and are instead praising him by calling him strong. I just. Yeah that's Not Normal. It's kind of impressive, really /derogatory)
Oh yeah also the fight at Kanou's lab also kills me and takes over my brain constantly but I wouldn't classify that as making me sad I would classify that as making me lose my mind, laugh hysterically and start climbing up and clawing at the walls (like Centineki, actually)
things done in fanfic that annoys me: Maybe I'm just extremely picky but I feel like people tend to fumble Amon's characterization a lot. It's kind of a fine line, and Amon has a lot of conflicting feelings as is, so I get it, but I'm especially bothered when Amon is written as way too harsh. When he's first introduced he has a strong hatred for ghouls, and it's not like that just goes away, but when he's written as especially harsh or even cruel towards Kaneki, especially if it's just because for him being a ghoul it feels like it kind of defeats the point, as Kaneki is supposed to be the reason why Amon starts changing his mind. When Amon sees him for the second time he doesn't think about fighting him at all, even that early on he decides he wants to talk instead, 'cause He's Different. I don't see this kind of characterization too often but I don't really vibe with it at all when I do (Also this is definitely just a me-thing but I wish there was more angst in the tag. Which is ironic considering these guys are surprisingly normal most of the time and have so much potential to be actually Happy but uh *vague hand gestures*, hurt-comfort would also be a decent compromise)
things I look for in fanfic: I love pre-:re fics that explore the complicated-ness of their dynamic. I'm really fond of fics where they kind of dance around each other in a sense, they won't just straight up completely directly interact because that's Still a bit dangerous but they see each other in passing, maybe Kaneki watches over Amon sometimes, etc. Also you probably saw this coming a mile away but yeah religious references mean instant bonus points from me. I could go into some (too much) detail but. uh. stares down at my feet look I'm normal I swear
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:  Saying Amonhaise is definitely cheating but I'm not really invested in any other Amon ships. I'm not particularly against any I'm just neutral. As for Kaneki, like I mentioned in a previous post, I see potential with Etoken, and it's pretty hard to go wrong with Hidekane, though neither drive me to insanity like these two do at the moment
My happily ever after for them: Let them finally officiate their marriage ghsfdljbhf
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Well that's pretty easy huh. Kaneki small spoon he is a Little Guy just let him feel comfortable and secure y'know? Kaneki is probably someone who runs very cold and Amon is very warm so it works out :) If he's super tired he very carefully (and cautiously) wraps his kagune around Amon he will now be Trapped there until Kaneki wants to get out of bed (good luck)
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Well I would say that Kaneki loves cooking for Amon probably. He makes food at home and tries to make new sweets following recipe books. It's a bit of a mess because y'know, he's a ghoul, and at first Amon tries to hide that, unfortunately, his previous experience with cooking does Not, in fact, hide the fact that he cannot taste or smell human food, but eventually Kaneki is able to get a hang of it (with Amon's help) and it's very nice :) That's what I would say but. well. Amon is Also a Ghoul now so that doesn't really work :')

Hi! Hope you're well and I'm not bothering you, fellow Amoneki fan here! I read 'Tokyo Ghoul' long ago, dropped ':Re' midway through (got spoilt since), but recently had a SEVERE Amoneki relapse (I don't know WHY, it's been almost a decade; but this ship is still so good actually). So I just wanted to let you know: I am extremely grateful for your blog, I feel less silly for my hyperfixation now. Might ramble more about them later in your inbox if that's okay with you. Either way, thank you!
(Sorry for the late response Tumblr tried to eat the notif for this ask but it didn't get past me LMAO)
Also LOL You and Me anon we have the same tg experience (to be fair I Do plan to finish :re I've just been focusing more on school lately and I've had to put my fixation on the backburner :') )
BUT YEAHHHHH I'm so glad you decided to drop by, it's kind of heartwarming to think that even after almost a decade you'd return to this ship (like, even though I missed the majority of the fandom by Quite a Few Years there's still people out there that are insane for the same things I am :))) I just think that's kinda Cool ) Honestly when I first started this blog I myself felt super silly and embarrassed for my hyperfixation but since having such nice interactions from the fandom I've learned that I can simply ramble to my heart's content actually, which is super neat 👍👍👍
That said IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO RAMBLE ABOUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEAAAAASE DO THEY'RE SO INTERESTING TO ME AND I LOVE DISCUSSION AND I LOVE INTERACTION (and I love asks :)c) ((not to mention, with said "putting interests on the backburner" I haven't been having a lot of time for any Profound Amoneki Thoughts, so I'd love to hear yours <33)

How do you see Sasaki’s first chat with Donato going down now that Amon’s present?
Ooh okay I have a few thoughts about this (I wrote a response for this earlier and then tumblr didn't save the draft *explodes*):
First of all Amon would obviously be super weary of Haise talking to Donato in the first place. He doesn't like the sound or idea of it at all. He's likely already certain that the "Alice" that Donato alluded to all that time ago was Kaneki/Haise, and look where it's gotten him now (wading into dangerous waters about CCG corruption, or really just. Everything about him and 'Eyepatch' in general), and there's no reason to believe he can't cause equal trouble with whatever he tells Haise. He absolutely knows things he Shouldn't, and that's dangerous.
Haise isn't so concerned, however. Donato seems... nice? In his weird, unconventional Donato-way. Donato speaks to him in a very friendly manner, and hears him out (in canon he says "You always help organize my thoughts. I appreciate it..."), obviously with Amon's disdain towards him he didn't really mean to have his guard so low like that, but it ends up happening away, because Donato seems to like Haise and having these conversations to kill the time. And at least he's more helpful about passing on information to Haise anyway. (He also probably occasionally prods Haise for info on how Amon's doing too LOL)
Regarding the fact that Amon was raised by Donato, now that gets complicated. Haise knows, obviously, and he wants to know more, but he likely thinks it both isn't his place to ask more about it and just, is hesitant to for a multitude of reasons. Asking Donato probably feels a bit like an invasion of privacy (if he did ask though, Donato would probably laugh about Amon as a kid, like about his sweet tooth), and obviously that would be a super touchy subject to ask Amon about. Honestly discussion about Donato between them is probably pretty strange in general, considering they both clearly have contrasting feelings about the man (and they're both complicated in their own ways (though Amon's are obviously moreso)). They probably try to keep it professional, discussion just the intel/info that he can give on cases, though maybe a few times Haise asks how Donato is like to other people, or something equally general (since asking why Amon has such disdain for him would be too obvious, and asking about his past upfront would be too direct).
As for Haise and Donato's conversations: Since Amon is here now, Donato obviously doesn't need to tell Haise to seek out a certain ghoul or anything. However, I think he would still be somewhat cryptic about it. Maybe he would hint that the "key" to his memories is much, much closer than he may think. That it's sitting within arm's reach, really, if he so chooses to pick it up and actually try and find out what was in his past. He would probably feed hints that point towards Amon, but leave it up to Haise himself to actually ask/remember anything, he's probably not just gonna spell it out for him. Maybe one day Haise recounts all the inexplicable feelings from his first encounter with Amon to Donato. Maybe Donato tells Haise that Amon may be more important to him than he realizes. Maybe he tells him that it's about time that he tries to figure out why.

hngh. okay first rant post I just think amoneki is so insane especially for how much they care and respect for each other right up until the very end like???
okay first of all there's obviously the way that they outright say (even if it's not directly to each other) that they don't want the other to die
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also the fact that Amon tells Kaneki to take a Break. In the middle of a fight. (Which also adds him to the pool of characters that are trying to tell Kaneki to tell him to just let himself rest for once (who he does Not listen to))
Tumblr media
Also the fact that when Kaneki deals his first (and only) potentially fatal blow to Amon Ever, instead of feeling betrayed by the fact that he was trying to avoid attacking him before or thinking "Oh so this is where he finally tries to actually kill me" Amon just calls Kaneki strong. He Cut Off His Arm and Amon's first thought is just to say that he thinks he's strong, even if this should technically be a sort of betrayal to all their previous encounters and a Contradiction to what Amon observed at the beginning of this fight about how Kaneki really wasn't planning on killing him (it's like even though this happened he knows deep down that it wasn't with a real killing Intent).
He doesn't even think about himself or that he might Actually Die he's just thinking about Kaneki even right then and afterwards
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ohhh my god I hate Amon (/affecionate) I have so many Thoughts about him especially thoughts Specifically about how he has a sort of idealized version of Kaneki in his head from the few times they've interacted I could talk about it for Hours (but then I'm gonna be here for ages and I will get So off track) )
And it's also about the fact that. In his final thoughts/words in tg Kaneki opens up with Amon's words; these are his words that have been stuck in his head ever since he first heard them and they are some of the last words he clings to before he's "erased". (When I first saw that line near the opening of the final chapter I almost lost my Shit) Like,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's about how even up until the end they're thinking about what they said to each other at that first encounter by the river
It's about how much impact they've had and Continue to have on each other even when they're basically Dying (and it's partially the others' fault)
It's about the actually Insane amount of parallels and the flipping of their situations between their first encounter and their last (in the original series)
It's about how neither of them deal the killing blow in an "unfair" fight (when the other is basically disarmed) but once they're on equal grounds that's the closest they've come to Actually killing the other and even then they don't want that to Actually happen and both hold onto that same thought
It's about how the natural thing would be for them to just fight and/or kill the other without a thought but they don't because "This guy's Different"
Enemies to It's Complicated. Enemies to you-have-impacted-my-worldview-in-irreversible-ways-and-I-wish-I-could-just-sit-down-and-talk-with-you-but-can't
Enemies to I-should-hate-you-because-you-(technically indirectly)-caused-the-death-of-someone-I-cared-about-but-also-your-words-won't-leave-my-head-and-I-want-to-know-more-about-you-also-I-don't-want-to-kill-you-but-you're-not-leaving-me-much-choice
Amoneki divorce has me so fucked up

You know what will be fun when Amon and Sasaki get to hang out as colleagues? Sparring sessions! Because, even if Sasaki doesn't remember ever fighting Amon, his body definitely does, and even though the prosthetic throws him off (maybe he feels too guilty to fight properly at first, and Amon and Akira tell him off for letting his guard down), he and Amon quickly fall into a pattern, and it feels disturbingly natural to read each other's movements. Sasaki doesn't understand why (Amon does or highly suspects), but in contrast to everyone else's instinctual fear of Sasaki when he fights, facing Amon as an equal feels amazing, and it gets even better when they learn to fight as a team. (It also leads to plenty of UST between them, to Amon's eternal mortification, Sasaki's confused embarassment and secret delight, and Kaneki is EXTREMELY conflicted about all this and increasingly jealous.) Akira also feels a complicated mix of wariness (the higher ups like the teamwork but they won't appreciate it if it becomes anything intimate, NO OFFICE ROMANCE WITH THE HALF-GHOUL!), slight jealousy (from her lingering feelings for Amon combined with a growing protectiveness of Sasaki; she tries to repress both feelings) and reluctant amusement (they are both DORKS it's hilarious to watch and they give her so much teasing material, it would be a shame not to use it).
YEAH ALL OF THIS,
Haise probably holds back a bit at first (almost as if he's scared of... something (losing control, like Kaneki was, like Kaneki did)), but like you said he would definitely be told off for it. It's equal parts kinda frightening and impressive to see how in-sync he and Amon seem to be though, whether they're sparrings against each other or fighting as a team. They turn out pretty evenly in terms of who wins, and they coordinate almost scarily well, especially with how they're capable of covering the others' weak points (while it's debatable how many opportunities they do get to fight together specifically, I'd like to think that they've practically saved the other more than once, lol)
Maybe Arima comments on it offhandedly once whlie he and Haise are sparring, to which Haise doesn't really know what to say, he just kinda laughs it off and is like "Yeah, it is strange isn't it?" (Meanwhile, in the background: This is all the more reason why Amon has such an important role in leading the squad if Haise does lose control. This is also all the more reason why it's important that they don't get too close. They make an impressively efficient team and it's quite morale boosting to see how they fight in all honesty, but they're also keeping an eye on them)
Also YEAH they're so awkward at times definitely I think both Akira and Juuzou would poke at them (mostly Amon. Poor guy) for it a lot (I think Juuzou in general takes a lot of enjoyment out of All of this. Especially because HE KNOWS, He knows who Haise is and was also there when Amon let him go at Kanou's Lab when he was Eyepatch, He Knows Everything (and he probably elbows Amon about it a lot (bro has to take a lot of shit for this can you tell LMAO), Amon would probably offer him more of Haise's donuts so he won't try and start rumors or cause trouble about it, though that doesn't stop him from giving Amon "I Know What You Are" looks or saying things that make him want to sink through the Floor), they're both like peak office entertainment to him. Akira, like you said, shares some of that amusement too, she's just far more cautious and weary, and conflicts with some of her other personal feelings. I can imagine a scenario with Juuzou saying something along the linss of "Sasaki and Amon are growing awfully close lately, huh?" and Akira nodding along, with a very subtle grimace)
And then there's poor Kaneki in the background of everything, watching from the shadows, there's probably too many emotions going on for this man to name at this point HAHA
