Thinking about Jinora and Korrasami's big sisterism in A Change in the Wind....about Jinora growing up under the incredible pressure of being the eldest, having to grow up too fast, no room for mistakes or immaturity. A child but also a third parent to her younger siblings, always feeling like she gave everything she had but it was somehow never enough.

About Korra and Asami growing up with the crushing, choking loneliness of being only children, Korra locked away in a training compound, almost never interacting with anyone but her parents and teachers. A child and a weapon and the world's great hope for peace all crammed into one body, treated like a chess piece instead of a person. Asami (and this is just speculation based on how she interacts with others in canon, since we don't actually know a whole lot about her childhood) having to parent her own grieving father, no space for her own pain in that big old mansion that was emptier than it should've been, self-contained and self-sufficient not necessarily because she wanted to be but because she had to be.

All three of them were trapped in their own way, and it must have been such a relief for both Korra and Jinora when Korra came to Republic City. Jinora could share her frustrations and vulnerabilities with Korra without worrying she'd be judged or told what to do, Korra finally found somebody who took her seriously but still treated her like a person first and the Avatar second, and I think both of them were able to enjoy a part of childhood they'd previously been denied. And once Asami started dating Korra she got to experience it too. I love them all so much..🥺

I'm sorry did I see you say you did your masters' thesis on character design? could you tell us more? 👀

YES ABSOLUTELY thank you So much for giving me an excuse to go off about this oh my god--SO!! 👀

my masters was on animation, specifically concept art & pitch bibles for animation (i'm not sure how well known those are but basically it's a document/book you bring into a pitch, contains all the basics of the show!) so it focused around making an animated show concept, a pitch bible & a visual development portfolio (just a fancier way to display more concept art) & the thesis (was supposed to) document the thought process behind making it

it was classed as a science masters, which meant the project had to be based around a hypothesis, so things got Muddled (hypothesis was on the rarity of adult horror in western animation) but the core of it was: i wanted to make a pitch for a fake tv show and write about character design & analyse art styles. so i did! there was stuff on stereotypical design traits & what they imply, environmental storytelling, how to show story through character design, how genres affect art styles & why, stylising animals for animation, sticking to historic research vs visual shorthands/readability, off the top of my head.

i will spare you hours of ramblings BUT i will not spare you the chance to show off some of the stuff i made >:3c the show concept was an 1800s (vaguely) southern gothic horror vibe, i went for anthros bc i had never tried them before and wanted something more challnging than humans. story concept was based around ergotism, mass hysteria, unreality, weird creatures in the fields that may or may not be real, power struggles, etc. etc.

the pitch bible i am still so Unbelievably proud of--i made everything basically from scratch myself, drew so many things i'd never even Attempted before, and although i'd change a few things now (mainly the writing/formatting) i'm still proud of it! i think the visitants pag is the coolest thing i've ever made still >:3c here's a handful of pages, and i'll put a few of the visual development portfolio ones under the cut & the links to the full things if anybody is interested!!

i never did get to finish the visdev portfolio bc of a bunch of health issues + a surgery, which is a shame. i do still really like this project tho and i'm immensely proud of getting the degree even through the Fuckery 😌

i'd love to come back to it someday, there's a lot of things i'd like to change now i'm not under a time limit (better historical reference, for one) but it's the first uni project i've still felt passionate about after submitting it, so thank you for giving me the chance to talk about it :D

I have almost everything that isn't just PWP beta read! I like having trusted friends in my docs, it gives me motivation to write and also I am needy and require validation while I'm writing. Beta readers make such a difference though - I can edit my own work and come up with a pretty clean copy when I don't use a beta reader - but it's always good to get fresh perspective to address any plot holes or just add that little bit extra. And also to remind me that sentences should not be 5 lines long all the time and point out when I use the same word 3 times in one paragraph 😅

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

Oh it's not on the list because I don't know if I'll ever go back to it, but

Lawyer AU part 3, because Brianna (Alex's PA) is an absolute queen

Here's a few I'm really enjoying lately; I hope you find something new or that you like! If not I may be able to send some more. 🥰 I sent 2 for Gothminister 'cause I'm especially fixated on them right now, haha.

Maybe I can get into it someday, my brother also seems interested so we may try looking into that eventually! Personally I think it'd be fun to put together snacks related to whatever is being played, especially baked goods.🧁 asdhjfkal; my anxiety could never! That's why I'm grateful that it seems more systems are implementing npcs if you can't put together a party. 😌

Oof, the story. Hm, well... writing is something I picked up again after 10 years and I didn't stick with it very long before! But this story came about when I was thinking about the Darksiders games and how different things would've been if more of humanity survived the apocalypse and managed to rebuild. Humanity might have also suffered some mutations allowing for supernatural abilities. 👀 I was going to keep it close to the source material, but it's really developed since and it's still in the beginning stages! Anyhow, I can't say too much on it publicly until I get the blog started. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the interactive fiction community, but it's being written in that format using either Twine or ChoiceScript; haven't decided yet lmao. It's my first large project and while overwhelming, it's exciting too! I won't be charging or taking money for it however since it's still kinda set in the Darksiders universe. I can't talk about the characters yet as much as I would like to! 😭

Mal sounds like such a sweetheart. 🤲🏻💕 I'm sorry I don't have much to say in regards to the answers, but I was smiling the entire time reading! And I can 100% get behind stews and potatoes. Also! If he's ashamed of candy crush, he shouldn't be! The obnoxiously loud whistle of the train mixed with the bustling of the busy platform as a lone pair of polished black shoes, clicked soundlessly on steady red limestone, making their way through the extensive crowd.

"A professor? Of course you sway to this. You stupid wanker." The youngest Malfoy thought to himself, with an internal look of distaste(contrary to the straight face he held) as he glanced at the seemingly pathetic minors.

"GLORIA!" A dark haired boy called out, pushing through the crowd, desperate to see his two best friends.

"AIDEN!" She said, running into his arms. "I thought you were living with your mother in Majorca."

"Well, she had another project in Cairo but I'll be living with her next year." He shrugged.

Aiden Griffiths, a half-blood, wizard who transferred from Beaubatons in their third year, Gloria Lightwood, the raging Slytherin princess and Cassiopeia Lupin, well the daughter of the not one but two marauders- Long story short, caused by a prank gone wrong, a certain annoying cat being transfigured into a fish and a detention later the three opposites seemed to be well, inseparable.

"Did Majorca's beaches brainwash you or are you just ignoring me?" Cassy asked with a small smirk, extending her arms out for him. But instead of hugging her, Aiden swung her small body over his shoulder and walked to the train, neglecting her defective cries for help

"AIDEN ZACHARY GRIFFITHS! PUT ME DOWN!"

"Oh stop complaining belle. Like the view?" He teased, burying his face into the side of her hip to tickle her as he took the struggling girl to the train.

"Cough up." Gloria said, gesturing at Sirius to give her previously the discussed stakes.

"I am sensing some significate sexual tension between them. How have I not noticed this prior to the present." Sirius muttered, as they discreetly exchanged a bag of galleons

"I saw that." Remus says, smacking his husband upside the head, causing Gloria let out a small laugh.

"Darling, no smacking in public." He mocks, smirking up at the evidently taller Lupin.

"Shut it Pads" He whispers, rolling his eyes

"Well, I really must be going now. I have no intentions of walking all the way to Scotland or witnessing where ever it is that this is going." She announces with a smile and hugs the two goodbye.

"I expect to see you over Christmas break." Remus calls, waving at the brunette.

"You will Uncle Moony!"

"So tell us, where did young miss Lightwood find herself Saturday night?" Cassiopeia asked, snapping her book shut.

"Draco Malfoy of course. Cass, as much as I find Narcissa Malfoy immensely attractive, she's married." Gloria chuckles.

"Yeah, but her husband's sorry arse is locked up in Azkaban." She snorted

"I'm lost." Aiden pipped in, gesturing to them that he was present also.

"Oh right, ever since Gloria turned 18 this August, she's been exploring further grounds. If you know what I mean." Cassiopeia explained.

"Aah... I see that now." He replied, casually laying down on the common room couch with his head in her lap as Cassiopeia instinctively racked her fingers through his curls.

"Did you lot know we have a new DADA and Potions professor, he didn't seem to be sitting at the Head Table but, let's face it; my sources are never wrong."

"Yes, yes we know what a well informed wizard you are." Gloria groaned, getting up from the floor and stretching a bit, walking up the stairs to Cassy's dorm.

"Night!" The two called.

"Night."

FANFIC END OF THE YEAR ASKS

1 - favorite fic you wrote this year

Oh, I gotta be honest with you, it has to be Tell Me About The Light Behind my Eyes. An obvious choice, seeing as it's my wip of 60k words and counting, but I got to explore so much through this story. I made friends in the comments section and it really was my gateway into the whole fandom. If you know me, you know I never really stop talking about this story - and I'll take this moment to make a formal apology to everyone who has ever talked to me :D

12 - favourite character to write about this year

To the surprise of no one, I sure love to whump that bard. And to make him happy. And to see the world through his eyes. Jaskier is my beloved and chaotic projection screen, and I love him so, so much.

15 - something you learned this year

Oh, there are so many things I've learned hhh where to start?

One of the things I learned through Light, and this is gonna sound cheesy, is that sometimes healing is not about fixing. Sometimes healing is all about creating a safe space for yourself or someone else to fall apart. Sometimes healing is more painful than the initial ache. But healing is always, always, about some kind of love.

Something else I've learned is that being vulnerable is important and almost always worth it. If I can let these characters be weak and vulnerable, if I can explore their trauma and the way they respond to life, then I can do the same for me. It's really all about projection, innit.

And another thing I've learned is that I am indeed a multishipper :D I wasn't before I joined the Witcher fandom, but now look at me, they've all kissed each other 😌

and so many more things but hhh the question was for one thing and already i failed

25 - a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read

one of my favourite fics, that i still think about to this day, is

The Lesser Evil by @dont-tempt-me-frodo (E | 78k)

1674 and piracy is rife throughout the Caribbean. Plenty of work for a Pirate Hunter such as Geralt. But when he takes a contract to hunt down a pirate captain who is interfering with important trade, a harsh truth arrises that will question his morals and he will be forced to choose between two evils, and risk the one thing he never thought he would find. Love.

And the entire Geralt Deserves Soft Things series by bedalk05

This series is almost entirely pure fluff, featuring shifter!Jaskier and a whole lotta cuddles and feels all around. Most of these can be read as a stand-alone

ZK Self-love Saturday

Ooooooooooh!! This is gonna be so much fun!! 🤩🤩🤩

I'm not very good at this self-love thing, I don't even know where to start, but I'll do what I can.

Going down the nostalgia road, Zutara wasn't the first ship for which I wrote fanfiction, but it certainly has been the one that has inspired me the most for my creative journey and to surpass myself as a writer and an artist. On top of that, it has helped me go through some tough times. I've hardly kept it a secret that I'm not on my best place geographically, politically and emotionally speaking, but creating truly gives me an escape from it... even if I'm at a mental place where sometimes I have to push myself real hard to just want to do things. But when I get like that, as I said, Zutara and its fandom inspire me, and they give me new ideas that I want to see come to reality, so I bring them myself. Some other times I don't get much recognition for those works, still they are stories and scenes that I want to read and that keeps me going.

When I published my first Zutara work, The words never said, I didn't get a single comment until I was past midway to the end of the story. I thought I was doing something wrong, but I've always been one of those "If I say I'm going to do something, it's because I will" people, and... I liked my own story.

Sure, most of my first writings are pretty sloppy, I can see that now, but back at the time I got hyped whenever I re-read what I had wrote and I was the one who wanted to find out how my story would look like finished, so I continued.

If I hadn't, I probably wouldn't have reached this much development in First Person POV — which is the way I write most of my ATLA fanfics because I think it fits with the characters — and I wouldn't have read so many writing tips to become a more versatile writer.

I admit it, sometimes I'm not that much kind with myself, sometimes I set impossible milestones and reprimand myself if I don't reach them; I can take more than what I can handle, and then get angry because I really can't handle it all. I've lost count on how many WIPs and future projects I have waiting, and that's just in writing, I also want to draw the scenes I've created, but I can recognize I've too much on just one plate to take another. It's discouraging when it seems you're making all this effort only for you to be the only one that appreciates it... nevertheless it's still worth it because I still like my content and I still want to surpass myself at the things I'm already good at.

I've been practicing parallelisms a lot in my Avatar!Zuko AU, it's a story that I've envisioned to explore Zuko's sense of identity and willpower a whole lot more; he doesn't only have his Fire Nation mirrors trying to break him and tell him what to do, he also has the past Avatars telling him their own mistakes that he's in danger of repeating, the rest of the world that counts on him to carry it on his shoulders, and his shoulders and his friends that don't always agree with him. For someone as insecure as Zuko is, that's more than enough to break him, yet even insecure people can remain firm in the choices they make. And those choices can hurt, too, and I want Zuko to grow with those experiences.

Oh boy, if I start ranting about that AU, we would be here all day 😅

As excited as I am to write it, I'm excited to finish it as well to focus then on my Avatar!Katara AU (I've learned to just take one project at a time) which I ironically have envisioned to be a whole lot darker than my Avatar!Zuko one 😳😳 Imagine the Katara that we know only that this time, instead of just her friend group, the whole world needs her to look after them. Imagine being the person that everybody looks to take care of them, but nobody does the same for you...

No worries, past Avatar Aang (and then Zuko 😏) is there for her! 😌

After that I going to start my post-canon rewrite to explore all of the GAang's feelings and goals after the war! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Well, you get the idea, I've got a very active imagination 😅

I better cut it short here to keep myself from fully ranting, but this was great! I feel great! Thank you so much @zkfanworkweek for coming up with these whole week, it has been amazing and motivating and inspiring and... and... I'll think about more adjectives when I'm not so hyped 😅
