Cabinet Battle 1
Part 5 of the Drarry x Hamilton Musical fic no one asked for!
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Cast after-parties meant one thing and one thing only to Draco Malfoy: rap battles. Though it was all new to him, he spent all of his free time devouring all of the hip-hop he could get his hands on like a starving man. It took some time before he became comfortable participating in cast battles, but eventually, he earned his role as Aaron Burr on a night just like this one. Needless to say, he cherished these gatherings. Even when he was paired with someone who poked at all of his bruises.
Tonight, it was Seb of course. Perceptive, slutty Seb who of course jabbed at Draco’s sex life and background. The competitive monster in Draco flared, and in this moment, nothing mattered more than getting that mic drop moment and making Seb bow at his lyrical prowess. So when his turn came, he started—
That’s right, my name is Draco Malfoy,
I used to be the worst kind of white boy
With two fortunes and an estate
Before I lost it all when dad found out I’m super gay.
Son of a dumbass and a trophy
No shit
I struggle with feeling worthy.
I also have a tendency to fixate
Let me explain
How this mess means I have zero sex.
You ask why I don’t fuck around and have fun?
‘Cause I’ve loved the same guy since forever, son.
But I’m so good at this thing called acting
He swears I hate him when I’ve really just been lusting
After him for over a decade
Hiding love and passion under fury and yelling.
So while you’re fucking around like no problem,
I’ll wait right here for Prince Charming
My Chosen One
The room roared in approval, and Draco beamed. Victory had to be his. Seb shook his head and smirked, then finally bowed, begrudgingly admitting his defeat. In an instant, Draco’s triumph disappeared. Because standing behind Seb was a slack-jawed Harry Potter.
The second to last part is here! Part 6

Idol Sanji headcanons part 2
Tumblr media
- He has multiple personas which you can see in his songs:
Mr Prince (yes that Mr Prince): His default persona. His pop star persona who is sweet but also dangerous and sexy in a cold calculated manner
King Nasty: his inner slut. This is the persona most people are familiar with
Brooklyn Rage: This is his inner gangster. Like if he is in this mode, bitch run
- He has the foulest mouth of the Strawhats. He is rapper no surprises
- He enjoys being a bratty sub which makes Zoro’s work even harder
- He has a lot of sex toys hidden in his room
- He has a lot of cars
- He shakes his ass a lot xD
- Zoro is more than his baby daddy and lover. He is his best friend
- He is worse than Nami in regards to the love of money. Yeah he loves the cash
- He was once a stripper during his younger years and did that to hustle for money
- He deep down does not value himself
- He often masturbates to videos and photos of Zoro
- He always does the more sluttier photoshoots
- He started smoking at the age 12 as a coping mechanism
- He loves clubbing
- According to Lelouch, Sanji had the highest grades of all the trainees under their label years ago and he was the most popular trainee at the time
- He is the member of Aogiri with the most collaborations for obvious reasons
- He suffered from an eating disorder that would later rebound during his idol years
- He used to hate his looks and body and wondered why anyone would want him. Still struggles with that today
- He and his dad both released albums on the same day. He ended up outselling the old man which greatly angered Judge
- He does not use the Vinsmoke name. Instead he uses his mother’s maiden name as his surname
-He sees Luffy and Chopper as his little brothers
-All those moans and orgasms he does in his songs? Those are not fake according to him. According to him, he masturbates in the studio to create those sounds
-He is an ATL dude due to spending most of his time growing up there even though he was born in New York but moved down to ATL with Zeff with his siblings
-His mother got shot by his dad when he was 3 years old. He rapped about this, literally destroying his dad and exposing the truth about the old man and destroying his reputation and ending Judge's career. A lot of people mock Judge, saying that his son is more gangster than he is. Judge has tried to hurt Sanji but his plans always backfire
- His mother was a pop star and was in a famous girl group before launching a successful musical career. So Sanji inherited all his talent from his parents but he got his mother’s looks, kindness and charisma
-He has been a victim of domestic and sexual abuse, first at the hands of his dad and later a lot of his exes
-Jojo's villain club are huge fans of his
-In fact every single villain you could think of love this guy to the point where many consider his songs "The Ultimate Villain Playbook." since he tends to play a villainous role in his songs since the character he seems to exude is a sexy evil Homme fatale
-As far as he is concerned, he is an all round entertainer. All that matters is that everyone has fun
-He was and still is the main moneymaker and breadwinner for the family for years because Ichiji unfortunately got shot but survived whilst selling newspapers on the streets
-The biggest scandal involving Sanji was an old sex tape of his from his stripper days resurfacing online. Pudding leaked it thanks to Judge but the plan backfired as that sextape made him even more popular than ever as it helped cement Sanji's sex symbol status
-He has the video with the highest amount of views on YouTube thanks to said sex tape scandal (Might as well add this to my fanfic)
- Don’t even dare try to sabotage him and his friends. He will destroy you
- There was one part in one of his songs that more or less defines him as a person:
Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But I am no lazybones,
Motherfucker left me for dead,
Yet I still stand,
You asked me why I do this shit?
This life goes way beyond making hits,
Started off as a poor weakling,
These days I answer to the name King
- He has a tattoo on his back close to his ass and has one on his ankle
- Sanji’s character’s stance towards women and feeding others is a reflection of real life Sanji’s past. The guy has been a victim of abuse for years and also his character’s interactions with women in the show is as a result of the things women like Pudding had done to him in the past
- He loves leather especially leather catsuits and wears those a lot
- During his Aogiri days, Sanji was not Sanji without his famous round shaped glasses. So many young idols would later emulate the style for years to come. Also his signature leather catsuits have made apperances in a variety of videos ever since
-He looks just like his mother

okay so after re-watching across the spiderverse for the third time (yes I have a problem shut up) I basically BOOKED it to the theater that was playing the miraculous movie and although I can barely understand a word of french the animation was expressive enough for me to still have some thoughts though I’m sure they are limited without proper access to the dialogue (so keep that in mind if you care about spoilers lol) anyway I need a place to put all this so here we go (in no particular order):
- I completely forgot this was a musical until the first song played and so did everyone else in the theater based off their groans of indignation
- basically every time they started singing the whole theater groaned very loudly and it almost got annoying but that could be cause I can’t judge the songs properly yet as I literally don’t understand them
- they also groaned and laughed a lot whenever adrien was getting emotional which????? made me annoyed because he’s one of the few boys in popular media who is shown to be soft and emotional as a strength and honestly the movie just turned it around and played it for jokes and it lowkey pissed me off
- they played careless whisper twice during scenes where adrien is simping too hard and a lot of people found it funny but I thought it was weird and uncomfortable but maybe that’s just me
- oh and about the songs whoever the singer is for Marinette does NOT sound like the regular speaking voice actor and it sticks out like a sore thumb
- again this could be because I’m missing out on the dialogue but I fear some people on tumblr were right when predicting this interpretation of Marinette :/ her only personality traits are being clumsy, being anxious, being bullied, being friendless, basically being like Bella Swan which no disrespect to Twilight fans but I MISSED my Marinette :( the thing I love most about her is how absolutely batshit insane she is and how good of a leader she is and how even the things this movie portrays are almost coded like ADHD and an actual anxiety disorder in the show not just an “uwu sad I’m not like other girls” trait
- also while I’m complaining I’m so sad they didn’t delve more into some of the side characters from the show like I would’ve loved for the movie to focus on the OG team of Carapace, Rena Rouge, Queen Bee with the main two or even just if it has a side plot with Luka or something it would’ve been nice but I also kinda get it because a movie has significant less time than a show to go into stuff like that
- also Alya and Nino’s relationship was so botched too because Nino is like a blubbering mess around her which??? the whole point of their relationship is how Nino realizes he likes and then loves Alya because he DOESN’T stutter around her like he did when he had a crush on Marinette and it’s supposed to provide this parallel to Marinette to show how being in a relationship can be steady and calm but whatever I guess we don’t care about any of the side characters now
- anyway Tikki raps at one point and for that alone I think Jeremy Zag should be arrested
- GABRIEL HAD LONG HAIR WHEN HE WAS YOUNG AND HE LOOKS SO STUPIDLGJF
- someone on Letterboxd called Adrien a wattpad bad boy again idk if that’s true cause I didn’t understand the dialogue but pls keep it in mind as you watch it
- a lot of people are praising the animation and on the one hand I think it’s earned because oh my god the action scenes are BEAUTIFUL but on the other hand the characters sometimes have this weird flat, lifeless vibe to them like a character from an illumination movie and idk it was weird
- granted the flat lifeless vibe could’ve been from the weird editing there was such a lack of establishing shots for so many scenes it made me disoriented about where a character was or what they were doing
- also the director refuses in every scene with Marinette and Alya talking to frame them in any interesting environments or angles ever it’s always the same flat and boring shot where they face the front like a sit com character
- anyway the third act was the best because it’s basically all actions scenes and it looks fucking fantastic 😌
- THE AKUMAS WERE SO GREAT I LOVED SEEING THEM EVERUTIME THEY WERE ON SCREEN AHHHHHFH
- even Gabriel looked less ugly in his Hawkmoth mask believe it or not
- I think there’s a chance ladynoir stans might have a good time with this cause there’s a lot of scenes with that dynamic even if it is offset by musical numbers
- sometimes the animation for musical numbers was very very or pretty and sometimes it felt pretty corny which
- made me think that this could’ve been a better 2D animated film since they’re clearly trying to pull a Disney 2.0 Electric Boogaloo with this film (but I might be biased since I had just watched across the spiderverse for the third time like 3 minutes before watching this)
- but they never delved into any of the world building like ever :/ like they never really show anything about how the powers work so nothing is ever established and they don’t even show all the powers!!!! Marinette doesn’t even use her lucky charms once!!!!! wtf dude
- when Marinette meets Adrien for the first two seconds it’s cute but quickly I got annoyed because they didn’t have her start off disliking him because she thinks he’s like Chloe like they did in the show and I feel like that’s such an important part of their relationship that they just completely ignored
- sorry adrienette stans most of their scenes are just lumped together in a montage lmao
- rip stans for other sides of the lovesquare they don’t get any screen time I’m sorry y’all
-although the end scene being presumedly a school dance is dumb and cliche and way too American for a French movie I did love Marinette’s dress I think it’s very beautiful (though buggachat’s ballgown in beau is still my favorite)
- I swear to god I think the animators made a reference to the joker dancing on stairs scene in one of gabriel’s musical numbers but I could’ve imagined it it was so quick
- also the ending felt very weird maybe I’m too used to fandom interpretations where Gabriel and Adrien being revealed to each other is super angsty lmao but it really did feel too happy of an ending like I genuinely don’t know if this is realistic for the characters
- or maybe it is but it’s just realistic for worse versions of the characters !!! because although this could be cause I missed all the dialogue but I swear gabriel doesn’t come off as abusive as he is in the show he just kinda gives off the vibe of a regular bad father which is super lame because that’s another part of the show that I think is super interesting
- also I swear to god I think the themes of emotional maturity and processing your emotions in general are just??? not there???? I’ll have to update y’all after I watch it in English but I swear???????????
- this really does just feel like a miraculous version of the mario movie it’s like all the life of the original is sucked out of it and is replaced by hollow references and an implication that the audience already understands everything because they watched the show so the filmmakers don’t have to explain anything which??? bad film makers bad *sprays with a water bottle*
- and listen I get that it’s an adaptation and it’s not possible for it to include EVERYTHING from the show but I was at least hoping for the same heart and/or a different take on the concept but that’s not what this felt like it felt too cheap and corporate and american (derogatory) to even really try
anyway those are just my thoughts and opinions and I am very open to all of them changing once I watch this in a language I actually fully understand but until then WATCH ACROSS THE SPIDERVERSE (unless you have light sensitivity issues then pls don't cause I don't want you to die ily) ok I’m gonna go shower now bye

Did you know that all the fish are dying out? That's the sad case for a lot of animals...
Would you ever wear a white tuxedo? I can't see why I'd ever refuse the opportunity. It's not my personal style, but also why not?
Do you judge a book by its cover? In a literal sense, yes. People-wise, I have my first, super topline impressions depending on how strong a person initially comes off as.
Do you like chips and dips? Yes, anything that comes with a dip I'd be all over.
Last time you went on a rollercoaster: 11 years ago in Singapore. I rode one for the first time, hated it, and have never wanted to get on another rollercoaster since.
Ever been to a pottery class? Not a class per se but I went to a factory once where we were shown the process of pottery and allowed for a handful of volunteers to make their own jars. I joined in :)
Does your milkshake bring all the boys to the yard? I hope it doesn't...
Who was the last person to stay over at your house? That would be Reena I think, but that's been a while.
Do you like red lipstick? Not on me.
Can you recall your country’s national anthem? Of course.
Do you believe in ghosts? Nope.
Which sweets/candy would you put into your dream pic'n'mix? I never liked candy and never had a bag of mixed candies, so I don't relly know...maybe a bunch of different gummy shapes, sour strips, and peanut butter chocolates.
If you had a boat, where would you sail in your boat? Point Nemo.
Can you rap? I have select rap verses memorized but abilty-wise I'd never say I could be a rapper haha.
Are you a light sleeper? No, I'm awful when it's situations where I have to wake up. I'm never able to do it, regardless of how many alarms I set.
When you were young, did you ever pretend to “marry” somebody? Eh, not really.
What is your favourite Disney film? Toy Story and Tangled.
Do you prefer brown or white bread? White.
Have you ever spent an entire day in bed? I have. I need those days sometimes.
Don’t you just find it annoying when people get too much plastic surgery? I'll sometimes find it hard to understand people who do it in excess, but I just keep those thoughts internally always and I also wouldn't say it's annoying.
How high’s your pain threshold? Very low, it's almost clownish.
What would you wear to a red carpet event? I see myself declining the invitation, lol.
Whose birthday is next, out of all the people you know? Hobi's :)
What kind of coat are you going to wear in the winter? We don't have winter and I don't own coats.
Did you ever go through a Goth phase? I didn't.
Do you find architecture interesting? Only to a certain extent. I like seeing photos of certain styles, like brutalism, but I wouldn't read about architecture.
When on the computer do you ever think about how it all works? Never, tbh.
How many songs are there in your iTunes library? I haven't used iTunes in over a decade.
Do you like Irish accents? I don't dislike it but I also don't particularly watch out for it.
Describe the worst date you’ve ever been on: My ex cursing me out in full public view at a party.
When did you last go to the park? Last July at the KLCC Park in Malaysia.
Which two animals would you breed together to make a hybrid? Dog and quokka, haha.
Do you ever forget how to walk? Doesn't really happen to me, no.
Do you own a Jesus bracelet? Nope.
How far out can you stick your tongue? Not far at all. It doesn't take long before it starts to hurt.
Do you like David Bowie? I like him and acknowledge his talent but I can't say I've really listened to him a lot.
Would you eat a live cockroach if it made you a millionaire? Tempting, but no.
Does it annoy you when you feel like people aren’t really listening? It depends on how they're like when they do so. Some people are more outright about not actually listening to what you have to say (my mom does this a lot and it drives me insane), but there are those instances where someone just isn't comfortable with eye contact so they do other stuff while hearing you out – that's okay with me.
Are you the type who usually plays it safe? For the most part.
Do you want what you can’t have? Yes, all the money in the world lol.
Ever been copied by somebody, clothing or style-wise? Not really.
Is there a point to clear nail varnish? Idk I don't know much about nail polish and things like that.
What is the latest time you’ve ever woken up? 11 AM.
Ever gotten into trouble over something you didn’t really do? Sure.
Are you currently ill? I had colds just a few days ago but it's on its way out now.
Don’t you just hate being corrected? If it's done in either a condescending or a really harsh reprimanding tone, then yeah.
Are there any really beautiful buildings close to where you live? Not really. You'll need to go all the way to Manila for the pretty architecture.
Who do you think about most? These days, it's about thinking of what to do and what new things to explore and experience once my resignation officially takes effect. I plan on spending April doing a hard reset and kind of just taking a trip here and there to rediscover myself and get myself ready for my new chapter.
I'm also thinking of what new jobs to apply for, of course.
Do you have embarrasing parents? No. My mom can be embarrassing when she occasionally turns into a Karen but otherwise at 25, embarrassing is a word I hardly use for my parents anymore lol.
How often do you use the word “poltent”? Did you mean potent? Because I'm not sure poltent is an actual word.
How’s your grandmother? They're both fantastic and healthy.
What in your opinion is the most annoying noise in the world? Kids.
Are you any good at writing? I am.
Can you speak any Spanish? Not conversational but I could make out words and phrases beyond the basic ones because Spanish colonization.
Do you like things from the ‘50s? Just Audrey Hepburn but otherwise wasn't being a woman at the time awful?
Would you rather be skeletal or curvy? I don't have a preference.
What’s your favourite type of cloud? I don't have one either.
What’s something that really matters to you? My wellbeing.
Did that pass some time? Yes, so much so I took this over 3 days lol. Thanks it was fun!

Boys Planet Recaps, Ep 7, Part 8, Tomboy
Tumblr media
Well, my loves, we’ve made it. It’s time for the most important stage performance that ever humankind has beheld: Tomboy. Let’s see if my recap can live up to it.
Click "keep reading" or whatever and let’s go!
So, we start in Episode 6, at time 2:04:17.
Huta introduces the team, and then we hear from the judges, who are gushing about how good the members are, as we look at how good they look backstage.
Tumblr media
I mean, they do look good, though I have a few questions.
Stylist noona, what’s with the leather… shoulder… holster… chestbelts? I don’t understand them.
Stylist noona, why did you put Gunwook in that loose pink shirt? It just makes us lose the definition of his body so he looks sort of vaguely large instead of big in a beefy, sexy way. Don’t get me wrong, boy has a nice bod, but I think the pink shirt confuses the eye into thinking otherwise.
The audience is super psyched for this team, and so are the other trainees.
Anyway, our tomboys are:
Trainee name (rank)   Star Level test Challenge 1 age final star level
Sung Hanbin (1) Beautiful Beautiful /Love Me Right - K 21 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Zhang Hao (5) Kick It - G /Kill This Love - G 22 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hui (7) Shut Down /Love Me Right - K 29 ⭐⭐⭐
Park Gunwook (10) GBTB /Kill This Love - K 18 🌟🌟🌟🌟
As I said before, this team is a little TOO stacked. We spent 5.5 minutes with them earlier this episode, and in that time, we mostly just saw international sweetheart Hanbin get the killing part, and Hao practicing the rap with Hanbin.
Let’s see what happened in their rehearsal, before they definitely perform, this episode. There’s no way that the won’t perform right at the end of this episode, right?
They introduce themselves as the Aces, and Hui does this really cringe aegyo thing that makes Huta laugh. (Remember, they’re from the same agency and are probably friendly with each other.)
Tumblr media
The judges continue to gush about these trainees, and they apparently particularly appreciate Zhang Hao’s pronunciation of Korean. Again with that. I agree that it’s important to pronounce Korean well if you’re going to be a k-pop idol, but they’re obsessed.
We cut to their first rehearsal. Master Lee makes a joke -- it’s so unfair that they didn’t give Gunwook a jacket like the other three! Then they ask Bobby (from Ikon) what he thinks of the group, and Bobby says, “They’re all so tall.” I looked it up, and Bobby is apparently 5’10, and Hui is 5’8. ::shrug:: I guess he couldn't think of what else to say.
Tumblr media
Anyway, they have their singing and rapping rehearsal. It sounds great, of course, even though they’re currently singing in the original high key. (They’re planning to go down two steps for the actual performance.) When they’re done, the judges don’t say anything at first, and Zhang Hao’s voiceover tells us that he was expecting to be scolded. Finally, though, the judges say it was great, and Bobby tells Gunwook that his rapping was good enough for him to debut. Aw, yay, Gunwook! That’s probably the kind of feedback he’s daydreamed about getting.
I’ve already ranted a LOT in these recaps about how abusive the judges are on this show, and I just want to point it out AGAIN. Because seriously, for Zhang Hao to EXPECT to be scolded after doing an obviously good job, it just shows that at this point the trainees are traumatized by the constant insults and harsh criticism. Yes, people need honest feedback to grow, but it shouldn’t be insulting. Anyway, you all know how I feel, so I’ll move on.
At 2:10:05 the show makes it look like they’re going to perform, but they don’t, because we have to wait until next episode.
Instead, they give us a brief preview of each of the new songs that the top 28 will be performing for the next challenge mission. I’ll give my thoughts on those in the end-of-mission wrap up, which will be coming soon. They also give the most recent ranking, which I’ll also discuss in the recap. There isn’t anything too surprising in it.
So, let’s skip to Episode 7, 1:47:05. Again, team Tomboy is taking the stage, and again, we’re reminded of how popular and highly ranked the team is.
Again, we cut to a flashback, this time to the trainees’ group self evaluation. All the trainees are excited to see Team Tomboy and think they did a good job, but still, somehow feel a little let down. It just wasn’t quite as good as they’d hoped or expected. In the feedback forms, Team Tomboy is ranked second by many teams -- my guess is that when they’re second, they’re second to Limousine. Just my guess. Apparently, on many of the feedback forms, Zhang Hao is the member who most needs improvement.
We hear from Zhang Hao that he’s lost a bit of confidence on this team that didn’t need him as a leader or main vocal. What is he here for? He feels out of ideas.
Hanbin notices that Hao is a little down, and decides to practice with him so they can come up with some ideas together. Soon Hao is feeling much better. (Meanwhile, in the background, you can see Hui and Gunwook working on something together, something written down on paper -- my guess is that Hui is helping Gunwook tweak his rap.)
Tumblr media
But then when Hao is feeling better, Hanbin starts feeling sad! Sure, he’s ranked number one, getting more than a million votes more than the person in 2nd place. Sure he’s the center of k-group and king of the killing parts. Sure, he was voted the trainee on his team who is doing the best currently. But what if… he’s NOT the best???? And what if he doesn’t improve?
So that night, he finds himself wandering around the dorms, and ends up crying to Wumuti and Dang Hong Hai, who are just sorta hanging out on a staircase.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel him on the whole “why am I crying???” thing. I’ve totally done that -- just started crying over something minimal and then just kind of can’t stop.
Also, I think DHH is dying his roots. Stars… they’re just like us! (I’m like 90% sure that’s DHH -- am I wrong? It’s hard to see clearly. I only know it’s Wumuti from the captions because we never see his face.)
Later, Hanbin goes back to his room, and Zhang Hao ends up visiting him and “hugging” him for a bit (that what Hanbin says, though we don't see it happen). Also, Zhang Hao talks Sungbin into giving him a back massage. That’s a unique way to cheer someone up, Hao. I’ll have to try that going forward. When my fella is having a bad day, I’ll offer to let him give me a backrub. …. Well, I think he would be a fan of that, but for a different reason. Anyway.
Tumblr media
Ok, I am of two minds about all of this. Part of me is like, yeah, Hanbin has shown vulnerability in the past, rating himself with just 3 stars on the first day, and usually being quite humble about the judges’ feedback. And it’s understandable that being ranked number one with a bullet would create its own form of pressure. You don’t want to have the public turn on you, as it is so prone to do.
On the other hand, Hanbin is very camera aware. He must know that the public likes you better if you overcome some sort of trial, right? So what if he’s having some sort of rough time, and is uncertain if he’s good enough -- but does that in a nice big obvious way? And what if that somehow leads to quasi skinship with one of the other popular trainees?
On a third and totally unexpected hand, what if Hanbin is so ideally crafted for going on a show like this that he genuinely and truly does all those exact specific things that make the audience love him? Like, some sensor panel in the back of his head can measure audience support meter and when necessary, prompts him sit down with Kim Gyuvin and chat about how he wanted to be a kindergarten teacher, or fix Matthew’s shirt, or… cry?
I guess the world will never know.
Anyway, Hanbin makes it through the long dark teatime of his soul, and gets back to rehearsal the next day, and soon, it’s performance day!
The performance
Link
If you’re wondering what Hui is saying when he draws the tear on his face, it’s
“Why are you cranky girl? What’s that frown on your face?”
Gunwook’s rap:
“That’s right, you’re a tomboy, genealogy twisted because of me who is a fast ‘05, I don’t want to hear excuses, so talk no more, Bluffing NO, I have a lot to say, but I just… Too many people and too many problems, too many proudly and too many cute.  Girl I’ll be a rock star, get out my way, pray for me.”
My take
This was flawless, in the sense that it didn't have any flaws. And yet, I don’t know, it wasn't my favorite.
The singing was universally excellent, the rapping was great. The dancing (weren’t they cheating a little bit to also dance?) was a nice touch. They looked great, they executed it all correctly, there were no mistakes at all. And yet.
Here’s where I think it goes wrong for me -- the song itself. Not that I specifically don’t like this song, because I do like it, Soyeon’s rap aside. It’s a cute little punky rocky pop song, and more importantly, it’s Jeon Soyeon continuing to push feminism in a country that really needs it. For one thing, South Korea has worst gender pay gap among industrialized countries. And I mean, do you remember that story of Irene from Red Velvet being seen reading a book about feminism, and getting backlash for it from angry fans? So Tomboy is more meaningful when you really think about what Soyeon is doing with it -- pushing feminism onto the national stage and making people sing along with it.
So, for me, it’s sort of inappropriate for a male group to cover this song and change some of the lyrics to say “girl” instead of “boy” (“why are you cranky, girl?”). This is a song about the restrictive and prescriptive gender roles that women have to put up with. Take away that meaning, and it’s about as powerful and meaningful as when a white kid covers Jay-Z’s 99 Problems at a karaoke bar.
There’s no concession to the idea of the song being about blurring gender roles. There’s no meaning to it when Hui sings “do you want a blonde barbie doll? I’m not a doll!” No one thought you were, Hui. There’s no meaning at all to the song as performed by these male trainees, and all their posturing comes to nothing.
What if they had made the song into a song about how feminism isn’t just for women, that everyone would benefit from relaxing gender roles? What if they had displayed a bit of vulnerability about it -- about liking things that are considered feminine sometimes, maybe? I don’t know, just something. SOMETHING. The topic of gender and gender roles is so big and broad and powerful, there’s so much to talk about and so many angles to approach it from, and they just sort of made a song about wanting to be a rock star, I guess?
It is asking a lot from them to do something like that when they're playing for audience votes, and maybe I'm being unfair. But it's just that this is the only song whose performance had no meaning. Limousine and Feel Special have obvious meanings, but the other songs have meanings too. Man in Love is about being in love. Love Killa is about fucking. Even Zoom has a meaning -- it's "I'm totally frickin' awesome!" That's a meaning. Not all meanings have to be... meaningful. They just have to exist. What is Tomboy, as performed by these trainees, about? I don't know, and so the performance is weird to me.
They did a fine job. I just think there was no way for a male idol team to cover this song in a straightforward way and make something that I’d want to watch. To be clear, I’m not offended by it, I’m just… bored. Bored and let down.
I still like all four trainees just fine though. They're good at singing and dancing and that's what I want in a Kpop idol. I'm just trying to explain why this performance left me so cold.
The edit
Everyone loves it, there are constant reactions, everyone has goose pimples, it’s the best thing anyone has ever seen ever. The judges even say that the guys really “understood” the song, and I agree that Hui understood the music and attitude of the song and managed to bring that out in the arrangement. However, I disagree that they understood the meaning or message of the song because if they had, they probably wouldn’t have wanted to perform it in the first place.
Also, everyone massively overreacts to them saying “fuck”. It’s not a curse in their own language -- are they really that titillated by it? I’m not overcome with naughty surprise every time Bibi says the Korean equivalent of the c-word in “Vengeance.” (The link is to a live stage where they bleep it out every time.) So yeah I don’t get it, but whatever.
The voting
They’re all waiting to find out who won, and everyone’s saying it could be anyone, but is probably Sung Hanbin.
I love how Krystian is just sort of calmly zoned out.
Tumblr media
Turns out number one on this team got 849 votes! That’s the highest score of the night! Who could it be?
It’s Zhang Hao!
Tumblr media
Everyone is pretty surprised. Zhang Shai Bo pops up like a jack in the box with an almost comical look of surprise. I don’t blame him -- it is surprising that a Chinese trainee would win the night.
Tumblr media
His team is super happy for him. Really, it seems that everyone is happy for him. I'm happy for Hao too -- he seems like a real person, you know? Like, there's no act here, as far as I can tell. And he needed the confidence boost.
Hao interviews, in that halting way of his, “I finally won for the first time. The feeling of being acknowledged is such a valuable memory to me. I want to hold onto this feeling. So I’ll show you an unexpected side of me.”
And that brings us to the very end of the Dual Position Battle, and the end of this recap! In the next one, I’ll go over my final thoughts on the challenge as a whole, including favorite performances and whatnot, and also talk about the last few minutes of episode 7.
As always, kamsahamnida for reading.
You, dear reader, are definitely in my top 9!

Warnings: None, tooth rotting fluff!
Pairing: Sam Kiszka X reader
The normal racket of the your job seemed louder than usual today. Dogs barking and squeaking toys as loudly as they could, tired of being cooped up inside from the rain of the previous few days.
You stopped outside of one of the kennels, squatting down and frowning at the new arrival for the weekend. She was laying down, looking so sad. You couldn’t help but feel your heart break .
“Oh Miss Molly,” you sighed, opening up the gate and letting the golden retriever crawl shyly over to you. “I know you miss your mom and dad, but I’m going to make sure you have so much fun this weekend. We’ll play fetch, and I’ll give you so many belly rubs. And if you keep being this cute you’re gonna weigh so much from all the t-r-e-a-t-s I’m gonna sneak you.” Molly licked at your arm and you laughed, scratching behind her ears. The bell above the front door rang, and you sighed. “I’ll take you and Gunther out to play in a little bit. You’ll have so much fun! But I gotta go back to work for a minute, okay?” You kissed the top of her head and ushered her back into her room, shutting the gate and smiling as, at least now, her tail was wagging.
“Hi! I’m sorry for your wait, how can I help you?” you greeted the man. He turned away from where he was looking at the photo collage you had made. You’d made sure to take pictures of all the dogs that came to stay, as they played and had fun, and thought that a collage of all of them, especially the repeat clients, would show how great of care you took in the animals you were trusted with.
“It’s no problem.” the man smiled at you and you felt your cheeks warm slightly. He was tall, with brown hair that had grown past his shoulders, and the eyes that were the deepest pools of chocolate brown you’d ever seen. He was damn cute. “I was thinking about having my dog boarded here while I travel for work, and was wondering if you gave tours of your property?”
“Tours?” you had to think. “You know, no one has ever asked for one. But why not? First, can I get some information about your dog?”
“Sure.” He came over to the counter, taking his phone out of his pocket and tapping the screen. It lit up to show a beautiful pit bull mix, it’s coat a gorgeous marbled brown. You couldn’t help but coo at her photo and the man chuckled. “Yeah, that’s my Rosie. She’s a rescue pit, and a lot of places don’t want to take her.”
“Yeah, I know.” you shook your head. “Poor pitties get such a bad rap. When really it’s the owners who make them that way.”
“I know!” he agreed, nodding fervently. “She’s a good girl. She’s never hurt anyone, she’s been around babies and kids, she’s the calmest dog I’ve ever had.”
“She seems very sweet.” You smiled. “We don’t discriminate against breeds here.”
“That’s awesome.” the man grinned.
“So, I guess I’ll take you back, you can see how we have the kennels set up, and I’ll show you the back, where we have a bunch of stuff for them to run around and play in…I’m sorry, what was you name?”
“Oh! Sorry, I’m Sam.” he extended his hand over the counter and you shook it, feeling a tingly sensation in your palm as your skin touched.
“Y/N.” When you let go, you ushered him around the counter and through the door, warning him how loud it was going to be.
“My older brother is louder than this!” Sam joked over the barking. You giggled and led him down the hall, explaining that every kennel was designed to look like a little doggie hotel room. They had a small bed, raised food and water bowls, and a small toy chest with some varying toys to play with, in case their owners forgot to leave any.
“I really stress that with pet owners.” you mentioned to Sam as he was baby talking to a corgi. “Bringing a few things they know from home, that smell like home, or you. It helps the dogs feel less lonely and makes the adjustment period for their stay shorter.”
“No that makes sense.” Sam nodded. You stopped outside Molly’s kennel again, seeing her happily chewing on a tennis ball now.
“Look at you! I told you you’d be okay.” You grinned as her tail thumped against the floor. Looking over to Sam, you explained. “She was just dropped off last night, and she was so depressed. Her owners didn’t pack her anything but food and a few treats. I was actually about to take her and another dog out to play before you got here.”
“If you don’t mind, you still can.” Sam shrugged. “I’d like to see the yard in use.”
“Sure.” You went over to the wall where the leashes hung and plucked two of them up, explaining to Sam that until they were outside, the dogs were kept on leashes, just in case they got a little too crazy.
You hooked up Molly’s collar, and handed the lead to Sam, who knelt down and started petting her almost immediately. You went back into one of the back offices, and Gunther, you German Shepard started wagging his tail.
“Come on buddy, let’s go play!” You got him hooked up and walked him back out to Sam, who was now giving a pampered Molly a belly rub. “Miss Molly! You sure do make friends fast!”
“She’s a sweetie.” Sam laughed, straightening up. He urged her up, and Molly listened, trotting next to him as you led them out to the backyard of the property. Once outside, you let the dogs off their leads, and Gunther took off like a shot, Molly chasing after him.
“So, there’s a little obstacle course for the high energy dogs.” You pointed over to the little course you’d built. “Tons of balls, everywhere. Tennis balls, basketballs, soccer balls. And we have a small in-ground pool for the dogs during the summer.”
“This is actually really cool.” Sam smiled down at you. “You really care about these dogs, huh?”
“I do.” you nodded. “That German Shepherd isn’t a boarder, he’s mine. His name is Gunther. He’s technically a rescue.” Sam gave you a curious look. “He was one of my first dogs I ever boarded. And his owners abandoned him. He was only a weekend board, and they never picked him up. I called and called, and then their number was disconnected.”
“That’s….I’m sorry, that fucking pisses me off.” Sam shook his head, his jaw clenched in anger.
“Me too. I had to file a police report but they didn’t really care, so I just adopted him. He‘s amazing, truly. I know it sounds silly, but I think he remembers how he felt when his old owners did that, and when new dogs come in, he wants to help them.”
“No, that doesn’t sound dumb at all.” Sam smiled at you.
“Well thanks.” You smiled back, bashful as his gaze stayed on your face longer than you expected. You looked back over at the dogs, who are now playing tug of war with a rope toy. “I want any dog that comes here to feel at home. I never want them to be afraid or feel abandoned. That’s why I only take five or six at a time, max. Plus it’s just me here most days, so I don’t think I could handle much more.”
“Your care definitely comes through.” Sam complimented. “I feel good about bringing Rosie here.”
“I’d love to have her.” you grinned. “Why don’t I give you some paperwork to take home? And then I have a list of things you’ll need to bring with her for her stay.”
“Yeah, that sounds good.” you called the dogs back, and Gunther dutifully ran over to you, stopping in front of you and sitting as you clipped his leash back on. Molly took a bit more convincing, but made it back to Sam, allowing him to put her lead back on as well. Once the dogs were situated again, you took Sam back out to the front desk and printed off some paperwork.
“So you said you were traveling for work?” you asked conversationally as Sam looked over the papers.
“Yeah, I’m gonna be gone for about two weeks and unfortunately my friends and family all have stuff going on where they can’t watch Rosie for me.”
"Aww well, their loss is my gain. I'm excited to meet her."
"She's gonna love you." he insisted, giving you a wink over the papers that almost made your heart stop. "I know it. I should get going, but I'll bring these back later this week. Maybe bring Rosie by so she can sniff around the lobby and get familiar?"
"That'd be nice. I'll see you then." you nodded as he took one of your business cards from the holder, sliding it into his pocket with the folded up paperwork. You watched as he left, and only turned away when you hear clicking on the tile floors, seeing Gunther standing next to you. "Looks like you might make a new friend, baby!"
🐾 🐾 🐾
You didn't realize that you had been looking forward to seeing Sam again until you looked out into the parking lot later that week, seeing him wrangling Rosie out of the back seat. Your stomach fluttered a bit and you found your self smoothing your hair back and trying to look casual as he came in the shop.
"Hey Y/N!" his grin was blinding as he entered, making sure Rosie was clear of the door before shutting it behind him.
"Sam, hi!" you smiled back. You peered over the counter at the adorable dog in front of you. "And you must be Miss Rosie!" she sat and you made your way around the counter, holding your hand out for her to sniff before reaching out and petting her. You showered the pooch with affection, nearly forgetting Sam was there until you realized he'd crouched down next to you, petting her with you.
"See girl?" he whispered. "I told you you'd like her." you blushed, biting your bottom lip.
"Is she good with other dogs?" you asked him as you scratched under her chin.
"Yeah, she's a little timid at first, but once she gets comfortable, she's fine."
"Good to know." you nodded. "Do you mind if I bring Gunther out? He's kind of the welcoming committee."
"Not at all." you stood up, going in the back and calling for Gunther, who came cantering around the corner. "I'm bringing him out on a leash, keep Rosie on hers."
"Got it!" Sam called back as you snapped the hook onto the collar around Gunther's neck. You held the leash taught in your hand as you slowly brought him out. Introducing dogs could go really smoothly, or really horribly, and you were determined to make sure it was the former for Rosie and Gunther. You came around the corner of the desk, and Gunther tilted his head as he spotted Sam and Rosie. You could see Rosie mirror him, and slowly, cautiously lean forward, sniffing the air. Gunther wagged his tail after a few moments, and took a step forward. Rosie froze, then walked forward herself, sniffing Gunther himself. They circled each other as they smelled and sniffed each other, before Gunther lowered himself in a playful stance, and Rosie reciprocated.
"Oh I'm so glad they get along." you breathed a sigh of relief. Sam agreed, the corners of his eyes crinkling with happiness.
"It makes me feel a lot better, knowing she'll have two friends here already."
"So, when do you leave for your work trip?" you asked as you tried to untangle Gunther's lead from Rosie's. You finally gave up, and unclipped his, Sam undoing Rosie's and letting them play in the lobby.
"Next Wednesday." Sam informed you. "For two weeks, and then I'm back for a bit."
"So you travel a lot?" he reached into the back pocket of his slacks, pulling out the folded paperwork for her stay.
"Yeah, and a lot of times I'm able to take her with me. It's when we go out of the country that I prefer her staying back. I don't care for planes myself, I can't imagine a dog in the cargo hold of one feels any better."
"No, I don't think so either." you chuckled, looking over the paperwork. "Oh, we might have a problem..." Sam's face was concerned, and he leaned over the counter, trying to see where he messed up on the forms.
"Where?"
"Right here, you say she can only have two treats a day." you shook your head. "I'm afraid there's a policy here against that."
"Really?" Sam gave you a look. You nodded seriously.
"Yeah, I can spoil the dogs as much as I want, as long as it doesn't interfere with a special diet or allergy. And I don't see any of that in here." Sam looked over at Rosie, and shook his head.
"You've already got her wrapped around your little paws, huh?" Rosie paused her play at Sam’s voice panting and wagging her tail happily while Gunther rolled on the floor.
“She’s for sure going to leave here spoiled rotten.” you bent down to pet her as she came by. “Really, I don’t get many dogs during the week, so it’ll just be her, me and Gunther most of the time. Then the weekends get a little fuller the closer we get to summer.” You and Sam talked a little longer, and you went over the list of items to bring, who to contact in the case of emergencies and so on. You tried not to feel the jolt of elation when he put his mom down as a contact, instead of a significant other.
“Okay, everything is all set. I’ll see you guys Wednesday morning.”
“For sure.” Sam grinned as he put Rosie’s lead back on. He said his goodbyes to you and Gunther as he left. Your German Shepherd stared out the clear glass door, watching Rosie as she sprang up into the back of Sam’s car.
“Aww buddy don’t worry, she’ll be back.” you felt sad for your furry companion as he whined when they backed out of the space and drove away.
🐾. 🐾 🐾
Wednesday morning, promptly at 8am, Sam brought Rosie to the kennel, a melancholy smile on his face as she trotted over to you, licking the treat out of your open palm. He placed a filled-to-the-brim reusable tote bag of her things on the counter. His hair was tied back in a small bun behind his head, and you had to stop yourself from reaching out and tucking one of the strands that fell loose around his face behind his ear.
“You be good for Miss Y/N.” he told her as he crouched in front of her, petting her soft coat and giving her kisses all over her face. “I’m gonna miss you Rosie-girl.” you let them say goodbye, keeping Gunther behind the small gate to not distract Rosie. When Sam stood up, he sniffled, going to the bag.
“I brought her food, some treats, and a bunch of her toys.” He explained. “Also, there’s this blanket in there, she’s had it since I got her, she sleeps with it on her dog bed, so I thought she might like it.”
“Good, that will really help, Sam.” You smiled. “You’re a good dog-father.”
“I try.” he chuckled. “Oh, there’s also one of my shirts in there. I wore it all day yesterday and slept in it, so it smells like me. I hope that helps too.”
“I’m sure it will.” you nodded. Sam stood there for a few seconds, staring into the bag. You were about to ask him if he forgot anything, but he spoke again before you could.
“Can I get your number?” he asked. Your eyes widened in surprise. “It’s just…If you don’t mind, I’d like to get updates of her. Pictures, or something.” He shrugged sheepishly. “I’ve only boarded her with family and friends before, and they usually do that. It’s okay if you don’t.”
“No, I don’t mind at all.” you smiled. “Give me your phone.” he unlocked the screen and you made a contact profile with your cell phone number, then sending yourself a text to save his contact in your phone. “Like I said, she’s the only other dog I’ll have for a few days, so I’ll have some time. I’ll send you as many pictures as I can.”
“That’s be great.” Sam grinned with relief. A horn honked outside and you both turned to see a van idling. “Shit I gotta go. Okay, thank you so, so much!” He said goodbye to Rosie again as you let her behind the gate, and dashed out the door to the van, climbing in.
“Okay guys, let’s get today started.” you looked down at the dogs and they wagged their tails at you.
Over the next few days, Rosie had become like a little shadow to you. You could tell she missed Sam, but she kept her spirits up, between playing with Gunther and you, and getting ample amounts of treats. Every so often you’d snap a picture of her having fun out in the yard or being silly in the building and send it to Sam, who always responded back with hearts and praising you for taking such good care of his baby.
The first weekend went off without a hitch. Rosie got along with the other dogs and had a blast on a warmer day when you set up the sprinkler for them to run through. The only incident you had was the following week. You were getting ready to close up shop and head home, when you heard a loud crack of thunder, and it was as if the sky opened up and rain poured down to the earth in heavy sheets. Whimpering from the kennels echoed out into the lobby, and you sighed, looking down to Gunther.
“Looks like we’re having a sleepover, bud.” Gunther was already trotting back to the kennels, sniffing at Rosie’s gate. Another crack of thunder and you saw the poor creature cowering on her little bed, the blanket Sam had brought for her rumpled from her anxiously moving around. “Come on, Rosie. Let’s go to the office. I’m not gonna leave you alone tonight.” Rosie slowly, cautiously moved towards you. Once you had her out, you reached in and grabbed a few of her toys and the blanket, and lead her to your office.
Once you had everything situated, you laid down on the couch. You’d put Rosie’s blanket down on the floor by your arms so you could reach out and pet her as she laid there. After half an hour, the thunder was rumbling quieter, but Rosie’s anxiety hadn’t subsided. You felt your heart ache, and wanted to do something. As you thought on how to comfort her better, you remembered. You got up, going over to the cupboard where you put the dogs items and ruffled through the bag Sam had dropped off. You pulled out an old t-shirt, smelling faintly of detergent and cologne, and smiled. You laid back down on the couch, placing the shirt over you and patting it, calling Rosie up softly. She sniffed at the shirt, then eagerly climbed up, laying on your body. The weight was enough to knock the air from your lungs momentarily, but after a few moments, she’s settled down and stopped shaking. You ran your hand soothingly over back, whispering how good of a girl she was.
You had almost fallen asleep yourself when your phone rang. You picked it up, seeing a FaceTime call from Sam. You answered it, and were greeted with his grinning, freshly showered face.
“Hey! Oh my god. Were you going to bed? I’m sorry! I forgot about the time difference.” You shook your head.
“No it’s fine.” you smiled. “It’s a long night. I’m sleeping at the kennel tonight, so I don't expect much sleep.” Sam furrowed his brows.
“Why? Is everything okay? Wait, is that my shirt?”
“Thunderstorms.” you shrugged. “It was really bad a while ago, poor Rosie was trembling with the thunder. I brought her into the office and was trying to get her to calm down, then I remembered you packed this shirt. So I laid it on me and now she’s laying on me.” You tapped the screen of your phone to change cameras, showing Rosie, now dozing away, head on your stomach. “I can’t bring myself to leave her, and my landlord would charge me double rent if he saw I brought another dog home. It was hard enough getting him to allow Gunther."
“Wow, Y/N.” you turned the phone screen around and gave him a smile. “I’m really glad she has you there looking out for her.”
“It’s what I do.” you shrugged. “How’s your work trip?”
“Good, good! The crowds are amazing, the energy is so real and raw, it’s awesome!”
“Crowds?” you asked. “Are you like a public speaker?” Sam laughed.
“Shit I never told you.” he smacked his forehead. “I’m in a band. My brothers and my best friend, we’re touring. That’s my job.”
“Oh wow, that’s really cool!” you grinned. “I’m glad you’re doing well!”
“I’ll have to play you some of our stuff some time, it’s pretty good, if I say so myself.”
“I bet you do.” you laughed. “What do you play?”
“Oh in the band I mostly play bass and keys.” He lifted up his hand and wiggled his fingers like he was playing an invisible piano. “But I play a lot of different instruments. Drums, guitar, kalimba, I used to play sax in school.”
“Ahh, a man of many talents.” you nodded. “I, too, am an accomplished musician." Sam raised his eyebrows.
"Yeah? What do you play?" you grinned at his curiousity.
"Not to brag, but I know my way around a McDonald's straw and cup lid." you pretending to dust off your shoulder, and Sam's laugh echoed, albeit tinny sounding, through the phone.
"That's really amazing. We should collaborate on a song or something."
"Sure, if you can afford me." you continued to joke. "I'm very, very busy with my own world tour, recording contracts, Lady Gaga wants to feature me on her next album..."
"Oh I see." Sam smirked. "Well I'll just have to wine and dine you to convince you to drop Gaga and go Greta."
"Who's Greta?" you giggled.
"Our band. Greta Van Fleet." he smiled proudly.
"That..that's a good band name." you nodded. "Good job on that."
"Thanks." you yawned and stretched a little, Rosie only moving slightly from the disturbance. You glanced down at her, and over to Gunther, who was sprawled out on his back, snoring away. "I should let you go, you need to rest."
"It's okay." you smiled. "U-unless you need to go." you heard hushed voices in the background and Sam's face turned slightly annoyed.
"Yeah, I do actually." he sighed. "Goodnight, Y/N. Give Rosie a kiss for me."
"Will do. Goodnight Sam."
🐾 🐾 🐾
The next few days, Sam facetimed you almost every evening. You purposefully stayed late at the kennel so he could see Rosie. He would stay on the phone with you as you made your drive home, as you cooked or ordered your dinner, and if he could, talk to you while you ate.
"You know, this doesn't count as wining and dining me." you said one night as you chewed a forkful of pasta. "If you really want my skills on your next album, you're gonna have to take me somewhere fancy."
"Oh yeah?" Sam asked as he laid in his hotel bed. "Like where?"
"I dunno," you shrugged, eating another bite as Gunther stared at you with puppy dog eyes. "Olive Garden or something?" Sam burst out with laughter and you shrugged again, knowing you were at least half serious.
"There's this really cute Italian place downtown." he said. "They make their pasta from scratch there, it's a ma and pop place. I'll take you there, how about that?"
"I don't know.." you skewed your lips to the side. "I really like that salty ass salad...."
"You can get the lobster ravioli."
"And suddenly I'm intrigued." you chuckled. "Are you excited to come home tomorrow? I know Rosie is going to be so happy to see you."
"Yeah, I'm ready." he nodded. "After not really touring for so long, this was a lot. I'm glad we'll be back for a little bit."
"I can't imagine. It's probably stressful, even having family with you. You miss a lot."
"It is." Sam agreed. "Hey, Y/N, I wanted to-"
"Sam! We gotta go!" a voice called out on his end. He bit his lip and shook his head.
"I gotta go, I'll see you tomorrow night when I come get Rosie."
"See ya. Have a safe flight."
"Thanks. Goodnight."
"'Night." you locked your phone screen and tossed it on the couch next to you, wondering what he was going to say next.
The next day dragged on. For you and for Rosie. You tried to keep yourself occupied with the chores of the kennel, but there hadn't been that many dogs in and so there wasn't a lot to do. It felt like each hour that ticked away was a full days length, and you felt almost as excited as Rosie when you saw that familiar Tesla pull into the parking space. You held onto her collar as Sam got out, and approached the door. She was already tugging, ready to run at her owner.
"Hey!" Sam greeted. You smiled and let Rosie go. She bounded the short distance over to him, wagging her tail so hard her whole body was wagging too. You couldn't help but laugh as he knelt down, and nearly got tackled by her kisses. "I missed you too, Rosie-girl. I missed you so much!" One she had calmed down a bit, you handed Sam a tissue, letting him wipe his slobbery face as he stood.
"She was an angel. truly." you told him when he asked how she'd been. "Probably the best dog I've kenneled."
"Hear that girl? You're the best!" Sam scratched her head. "Thank you for taking such amazing care of her. And me, kind of. Sending me all those photos and videos, chatting with me. Really put me at ease."
"It was my pleasure." you smiled. You looked down at Rosie. "I'm sad to see you go, Rosie-Posie, but I'm happy you'll be back at your home with your dad."
"Gunther looks kind of depressed." Sam murmured, looking at him where he laid on the floor behind the gate.
"Yeah, he gets like that with the extended stay pets." you nodded. "Plus, I think he really likes Rosie. They did practically everything together for the past two weeks."
"Well, I'll definitely be bringing her back the next time I leave." Sam promised. "I should get her home and settled, and it's about time for you to close, isn't it?" you glanced up at the clock nodding.
"Yeah, let me go grab her things." you walked into the back to your office, grabbing her bag, and making sure all of her toys and items were out of the kennel. You handed the bag to Sam, and you said your goodbyes to him and Rosie, watching them go. You looked over to Gunther, who sighed dramatically and you nodded in agreement. As you moved behind the desk and started your closing duties, the bell above the door rang. "Sam? Did you forget something?"
"Yeah! I mean, no." he looked suddenly embarrassed and nervous. He reached a hand behind his head, scratching his neck."Well, Rosie had such a good time, and she really seems to like Gunther...she was wondering...if maybe Gunther would like to go get ice cream?" you bit your lip, blushing fiercely as he looked at you hopefully.
"I think Gunther would really like that." you answered. "We're free around three tomorrow afternoon, if that works."
"That's perfect."

hi, it’s seungmin fic anon again! i’ve never done ship requests but i hope the info i provide is enough. hopefully it isn’t too long, i went a little off on this.
i’m a girl who loves anything music related. i can play a lot of instruments, and i also sing and rap (more of the first one). i’ve written my own songs before and i’m pretty much self-taught in all these areas, but i’m not sure how i measure up to others because i usually just keep to myself. it’s so much fun to me. not only can i tell a unique story from my mind, but i can express my emotions in that way too, and i love listening to music and think about all the unique elements that go into each song.
that being said, i’m a sensitive person emotionally, so i have a very small circle of close friends because they can understand and listen to me without judging. i’m an empath (unfortunately or fortunately), and i get hurt easily from people being harsh towards me or from hearing about negative things like the news or something. i’m pretty shy and i don’t know how to express my feelings, so i’m not so good at communicating but i want to improve. i forget to take care of myself sometimes (ooft). lastly, i need my alone time but also i need to spend time with someone i cherish so i don’t feel lonely.
i ship you with…
chan!
you enjoying anything music related is definitely something that will make chan swoon. he’s especially sold at your seemingly never ending talents. chan’s number one passion is music, producing, composing, all of it— so of course that’s what you two would bond over. chan would be beyond honored to be the first to see your masterpieces, and his compliments would never stop.
chan would be the type to make you countless playlists of songs that remind him of you or that he just thinks you’d like to listen to. he’d share his earbuds with you at every convenience and love to dissect song meanings and the production with you.
with you being on the shy side and chan being naturally charming and more extroverted, he would happily do some of the talking to others if you didn’t feel like it :)
chan is a great listener and very good with advice, so i see him trying to pick you up and help you take care of yourself as well!!
yandere chan
the moment he first heard you sing, he promised himself that he was the only one who could ever grace his ears upon such a heavenly sound. chan was lucky enough to hear it and he would be selfish about it.
he would most definitely read and memorize every lyric you’ve ever written. he’d spend hours with the words in his mind, picking apart your soul only to be more amazed every day by how beautiful it was.
chan wouldn’t like your close friends. not at all. acquaintances would be fine for him, but these people got to hear the same thoughts and worries from your beautiful head that he got to, and that wouldn’t be anywhere near alright with him. they needed to go. immediately.
you wouldn’t have to ever say another word to anyone besides chan if you didn’t want to. and you could have as much alone time as you wanted— as long as he was there right beside you. his favorite moments were the quiet ones, laying beside you in silence with music in the background.

Nope, N.O, and The Astronaut
Tumblr media
It was a one-eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love Jordan Peele’s Nope and Kim Seokjin’s “The Astronaut.” I think the overall message in The Astronaut mv is a promise from Seokjin, to us fans. He appreciates our support and though he, and the other members, have to go away for a while, they will return. In The Astronaut, Jin’s vocals are comforting, and the lyrics he wrote in his native language are filled with love.
I also think there’s another layer to the mv.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Spoilers below)
My theory is the ship in the Astronaut mv is like the alien monster from Jordan Peele’s movie Nope. The alien has a camera for eyes and a mouth. if you look at it, you get sucked up and consumed. It represents the pressure of the entertainment industry, and the demand for constant content. The industry is the alien, some of the audience (mostly antis and solos) is the alien: watching, consuming, and judging.
One of my first thoughts after watching Nope (after coming down from the adrenaline rush due to watching it in a Dolby theater), was that Peele deliberately avoided explanations. It felt like his response to many people who loved Get Out, but criticized Us. I admittedly had a similar reaction, but while I do think the third act was a little confusing, I appreciate what Peele was saying in Us. Anyway, in making Nope very direct, with no answers about where the alien came from, the themes and layers are a lot easier to see.
That isn’t to say the entertainment industry, nor all fans, are inherently evil and dangerous. Without a production company, or fans, then Jordan Peele’s movies, and BTS’s songs or mvs might not have existed at all. But there is an underlying danger in spectacle, and demand for more of it.
Steven Yeun’s Jupe (who is Korean-American) turns the traumatizing event he witnessed as a child actor into entertainment, praising the SNL skit parodying the massacre and acted by a white cast. Jupe wears Western clothes and a cowboy hat, which both resembles the alien and the outfits BTS wore in the Permission to Dance mv.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nope helped me fully understand what Namjoon was talking about when he mentioned he had lost sight of what kind of musical group BTS was becoming. This same band of artists that write and perform songs that retain the essence of their souls. They expressed their deeper feelings through their Korean lyrics, their cultural roots, and even their callouts to societal issues like the educational system, and stifling expectations pressuring younger generations to be perfect.
I personally don’t think BTS had ever forgotten their roots, and I’m not saying Peele made Nope partly to tell BTS to rap and sing in Korean again. But I do see the parallels between Nope’s themes and BTS’s decision to take a break from group music until 2025. I do think Jin was conveying parallels between Nope’s themes and his choice to preserve his soul, to say “Nope” now and then to the camera, while still loving his members and fans.
Jin looked blank throughout most of The Astronaut mv - the exceptions were when he rode in the truck that featured in past BTS mvs (representing the members), and when Jin is with the girl who represents the predominantly female fanbase. Jin’s blank expression and being shunned by other people in the city scenes might represent Jin recounting all the hate comments he had received from non-fans asking when he would enlist.
I think when Jin was going through his burnout in late 2020, it was related to the SK government postponing BTS’s enlistment. Jin never asked to be exempted, nor for an extension. He and the members had always planned to enlist. But Jin got hated on the most, sadly. Jin wisely got counseling to help with his burnout.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is why I think Jin turning away from the ship refers to Jin finding peace within himself, with the other members, family and friends, and with the fans. When characters like Em and OJ, and artists like Jordan and Seokjin, have the agency to say NOPE or N.O to the industry, that helps them hold onto their s(e)oul.

Joey Bada$$ - 2000 ALBUM REVIEW
Tumblr media
In the five years since the release of his last album, Joey Bada$$ hadn’t been as active as he usually is. Aside from his contributions to the Beast Coast album and the 3-song Light Pack EP back in 2020, Joey has been busy with other things outside of music. He had a daughter and continued his acting career, appearing in the first season of Wu-Tang: An American Saga, one of the Power spinoff shows, and the film Two Distant Strangers which won an Oscar. 2022 not only marks the release of Joey’s third album but also the 10th anniversary of his first mixtape 1999, which his new album’s title is a nod too. Though the cover and title are a nod to Joey’s beginnings, 2000 is definitely not a sequel to 1999 but instead marks the decade of Joey’s successful rap career. It’s much more polished in terms of production choices and mixing as this is a studio album full of original production mostly from longtime collaborator Statik Selektah who has produced a lot of Joey’s best music. The production is great and works well for Joey like always but the lyricism shines extremely bright on this album, which is also typical for a Joey Bada$$ album. Songs like Make Me Feel, Where I Belong, and Zipcodes sound like classic Joey. In terms of lyrical content, he spends most of the album reflecting on the past ten years, both in terms of his success but also sharing life experiences that happened along the way as well as honoring those close to him that lost, including Pro Era member Capital STEEZ and his cousin Junior B, who he dedicates the incredible Survivors Guilt to. Joey has mentioned Steez on many songs before, including #LONGLIVESTEELO but this song is easily the most vulnerable he has ever been about losing his close friend and family member. The beat is gorgeous and the hook is sung simply yet so beautifully as he says, “this one is for you.” He talks about missing his loved ones who came up with him and feeling guilty for being successful without them. It is moments like this song that we have been waiting for from Joey. The song Head High is also one of the better songs on the album, which he dedicates a verse to XXXTentacion as he tells a story of how their friendship came to be. I also love the hook on this one as he raps “This for my n****s who took the time to relax / huggin’ their block but the block ain’t hug ‘em back.” While a lot of this album is very reflective and introspective, he enjoys his successes on the album too on songs like Brand New 911 where Westside Gunn joins him for a verse and adds his amazing “BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM” adlibs to the track. There is also the song One Of Us with Larry June which I love the vocal sample on. While I love a good amount of this album as it sounds like the Joey we know and love, there are some dull moments like the intro with Diddy as well as Welcome Back with Chris Brown and Capella Grey which could have been cut from the album. That song really did not fit well with the album. I think the same thing about the hook on Cruise Control, though I do like the verses and the production. While 2000 accomplishes its goals of documenting Joey’s life since the release of 1999 back in 2012, it only somewhat meets my expectations. I am satisfied with the classic Joey Bada$$ wordplay and production choices and love the more personal songs on the album, the quality of the album as a whole doesn’t really hold a candle to his other albums. Besides that opinion which isn’t much of an actual criticism, I think that when you don’t compare it to anything and judge my own enjoyment of the album, it is really good and I am happy that Joey is back. 2000 isn’t anything groundbreaking but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Joey is now in a very interesting part of his career as he has been in music for 10 years but is still only 27 years old. He has lived a whole rap career but is not even 30, making it seem as though he is only just getting started. 2000 seems like a major milestone for him, which is exciting because he is so young but has been rapping too long to be lumped in with the younger generation of rappers. 2000 is a very good album when you keep that in mind and enjoy the music for what it is and his reflective songs make a big impact for longtime Joey Bada$$ fans.

FUTURE DREAMS S5 SCENARIOS : week three COUNT : 826 words
back for another interview, this time he sits confidently and comfortably. he has one performance down with future dreams already, and as much as he loves performing, he’s glad he doesn’t have to stress over one this week. then, the first question, “where would you rank yourself among the other participants this season?”
dowoon had watched the previous seasons of future dreams religiously, so he should have expected the ranking system to return. but, he’s still taken aback when faced with the question. it’s a dilemma for him. does he be confident and put himself among the top? he had been given praise during the last trainee evaluation. but, after last weeks performances, he’s lost a bit of his confidence. he thought his performance was good, but some of the other trainees showed off their versatility and range of skills that impressed dowoon. he worried the judges would ping him for a one-trick-pony. he worried maybe he was just a singer, not ready for the demands of an idol.
he decided to go with honesty. those were the kind of contestants he rooted for when he watched, the trainees that were genuine with their thoughts. “right now, i would honestly put myself pretty low. maybe 15?” he admitted solemnly. “i don’t think i’m at the bottom, but i still have a lot to improve in if i want to win.” he was making progress, but he still didn’t think he was quite there yet. thinking that was a somber note to end his response on, he raised his fist and added, energetically, “which i will work hard to do, so please cheer me on this season!” directly to the camera.
the second question is a lot more antagonistic than he ever thought himself to be. dowoon isn’t someone that liked competition. he never had a natural competitive spirit and hated when he was disliked. he didn’t want any of the trainees (who he could be placed in a group with down the line) think ill of him. “hmm, that’s hard actually! i don’t want to call anyone out...” but this is a competition, he reminds himself silently. he has to bring out the small competitive spirit inside of him for this show.
“first, singing, i will say” there were a lot of good vocalists in this season, all of which he would like to prove himself against. he consides keeho [ @lgckeeho ] would be a good choice. he had a good voice and is an excellent all around performer. but he goes with the predictable, “su parker [ @lgcparker ], who i think will probably be everyone’s pick for singing and a hyung i really respect” he answered. “not only is he, in my opinion, the best vocalist this season, we have competed as trainees and i enjoyed that time, so i would like to do it again if given the chance.” they were able to collaborate while in direct competition with one another, which dowoon really valued. “our skillsets are also similar, even though i think he’s a lot farther along than i am. so, i think us competing is pretty natural.”
“we have a lot of good dancers this season so it’s little intimidating.” despite his improvements, dance was still a sore spot for dowoon. he wanted to catch up to everyone around him and he was, but after last week’s performances, he was still lagging behind a lot of the trainees. “even though he’s a lot better than me, i would like to go against lee indy [ @indylgc ] in dance!” he said with confidence after a moment of contemplation. “didn’t he do so well last week? his dancing is always fun to watch and he executed the concept really well.” indy’s was one of the more memorable performances from the week before and refreshed dowoon during the hours of shooting. “he’s also taught me a lot about dance. i would like to go against him to show how much i’ve improved, with his help.”
he was avoiding talking about rap, his worst skill. once again, there were a lot of good rappers to consider. however, since that was a skill he felt the least confident in, he thought he should go with a safer pick. “for rap, i will pick song jiahn [ @lgcjiahn ]” he said finally. “while i’m not very close with this trainee, i have seen from afar that he is talented in a lot of different areas. from what i have seen, we are at simliar levels in rapping. i would like to go against him so we could try to get closer and see who would pull ahead in the end.” dowoon felt shy basically asking this guy he was a friend of a friend of to compete, but it was too late now. with all of the questions answered, he left the interview with a polite goodbye and a slightly blush on his face.

ŹOOĻ - CONQUEROR Translation
youtube
Composition: Nishizawa Joe (GENIC), Koike Ryuuki (GENIC) Arrangement: Nishizawa Joe (GENIC) Lyrics: Nishizawa Joe (GENIC), Koike Ryuuki (GENIC)
Something to preface: I think a lot of the original lyrics prioritizes rhyme over everything else (especially in the rap parts and chorus), making it kind of futile to attempt conveying the entire “intention” in English. However, I did this in case people are curious about what the lyrics are saying. Just keep in mind that the rhymes are completely lost in translation, though you may have noticed them from listening to the song alone.
With that said, lyrics and translation are under the cut!
--- Original Japanese lyrics:
(Get ready)
scream inside now 変えるこの定石 普遍じゃつまんない
scream inside now 勝ち負けじゃ図れやしない
I’m CONQUEROR
滾らせろ Burn 放つ上へと Burn 摑む栄光
screaming now screaming out
screaming now screaming out
screaming now screaming out
--- English translation:
We’ll gather them, bashing, and also percent Those who grumble are our target
Darkness adorning my figure Activated along with the voice
Let it resound in your eardrums and LOOP Our way to win is always COOL This is My Style, that’s right, it’s ŹOOĻ
It’s because we’re of a different breed in the first place So high that you can’t reach it just yet This heartbeat that rises
With an overflowing image that can’t be suppressed We’ll cut down whatever we can Tearing through the flesh and severing the bones (Get ready now)
Scream inside now We’ll change this playbook Universality would be boring
Scream inside now You can’t judge it solely on victory and defeat
I’m CONQUEROR
Let your blood boil [1], Burn To the top we’ll fire straight Burn, the glory we’ll seize
Screaming now Screaming out
It’s not a force of habit, but an absolute pledge We’ll scatter them, bright And take everything away now
The original that’s fading away We’re taking it off, revealing the subliminal Without caring about anything, I’ll sing my heart out, bang now And throw away my futile pride on fire
Scream inside now Adversities, too, nourish us If we stay mediocre, then there’s no point to it
Scream inside now I'll hand down a judgment with a gruesome end
Let your blood boil [1], Burn To the top we’ll fire straight Burn, the glory we’ll seize
Screaming now Screaming out
It’s not a force of habit, but an absolute pledge We’ll scatter them, bright And take everything away now
“Don’t leave my side ever again” “I’ll get rid of anyone that hurts you” [2] “I can’t leave you alone anymore” “You should look only at me” “Come follow me”
Let your blood boil [1], Burn To the top we’ll fire straight Burn, the glory we’ll seize
Screaming now Screaming out
It’s not a force of habit, but an absolute pledge We’ll scatter them, bright And take everything away now
Oh, we’ll shake the world spectacularly Oh, this stage basked in cheers
To those who excel only in rhetoric [3] We bid our bye-bye—in here we stand unrivaled
We’ll shake your head and make your heart pound Our star line will captivate you
--- T/N: [1] Figuratively, 滾らせろ can mean something along the line of “get pumped up”, but to keep with the fiery theme going on in the song, I’ve decided to use the more literal “boil” (“blood” isn’t actually mentioned in the lyrics, but I’m just inferring it from the context of “get pumped up”). [2] Haruka here uses 俺 and 君 as the first person pronoun and second pronoun respectively, which is unusual since he defaults to オレ for his first person pronoun and either あんた or おまえ for his second person pronoun. 俺 and オレ is actually the same pronoun, but 俺 comes across as more matured. On the other hand, 君—while still casual—feels softer (i.e., doesn’t come across as rude) than the usual second person pronouns he uses. [3] Literal translation would be “to those who are only good at talking”, but the lyrics actually use the honorific prefixes お and ご (making the phrase sound more respectful or formal), so I hope wording the line more fancily gets across the nuance more.
Please feel free to tell me if you find any mistakes in the translation!

dear… diary? cherry? mija?
i don’t think i’ve ever properly written in a diary before, i did as a kid want to, because it seemed cool to look back at a diary ten years after writing it, but i never got around to write in it. for most things actually, i never get around to do it. i have a habit of picking up hobbies just to leave them behind, and to buy new things because i think, oh this will for sure be my thing! and then i never do it. generally really, i leave most things (not people) behind it feels like. i’m not sure why, but it just doesn’t feel like anything is my thing…? and as i’m growing older i wonder if anything will ever be my thing. i know i shouldn't feel like it, but i wonder if i’m getting too old to find something that’s my thing.
i love trying new things, i always have, but they never stick around. there’s a reason for this being my first diary entry, because i want today’s memory to last. my memory isn’t good, and while i might be able to remember today for a while, i’ll probably forget the details with time, which i don’t want to.
i do speak somewhat well enough korean, but it most very certainly could be better. i did learn korean back in the us, but i’ve never been good at learning languages. upon my arrival in korea, my korean did get better, but i’m also not good at studying, so it’s never gotten really good, and as i grew older, i felt like it would be too embarrassing to begin studying korean. i want to be better at korean, but i’m like twenty-one years old, would people judge me based on it? not that i care much for others’ opinions, but maybe i do sometimes. a coach approached me today, asking me what i wanted to improve, and i did feel like my answer should be dance, rap or singing, but i ended up telling him i wanted to improve my korean. and as always, i can’t keep my mouth shut, i just talk and talk and blah blah blah, so i told him it was a stupid answer, and that maybe i shouldn’t focus on korean right now. now my memory isn’t good, but i’ve tried remembering his exact words.
“there’s a lot of things in the world we don’t want to do, but must have to do, but there’s also some things we don’t need to do, but want to do, and both of those are important”
at least it was something like that, and he brought me a book, told me that an easy way to get better at korean and widen my vocabulary would be to read korean books. and while i might not read much, and when i usually read i read in english, i think i’ll begin practicing korean in my free time. i hope i remember his words when i need to, and it’s exciting to see if my first diary entry will be my last too, or if this will stick around.
love, mija

No gimmicks spirit in my lyrics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I don't know how easy it was to choreograph Paul…he's accustomed to standing straight up, on the balls of his feet – you wanted him to get down and dirty, and he did," said Nigel Lythgoe, the only constant judge for all ten seasons of "So You Think You Can Dance." "Not in a million years did I ever think I would see you doing this…it's so impressive!" Guest judge actress Jenna Elfman told Karmiryan. It wasn't the Christian theme, however, but Karmiryan's surprise success with hip hop that impressed the judges. She also retweeted a tweet thanking her for her choice of Christian rap – you are my hero for repping Jesus on the show last night! Thanks for your stance for Him!!!" "But some others say we preachin', some close-minded teachin'/Like we ain't heard of Marx life, and Niche, Believe me," it runs, quick to add "Eh, They Don't know about us."įedoke, known for appearances in "Glee" (2011), "Footloose" (2011), and the upcoming film "East Side Story" (2013), posted on Twitter, "Anywhere GOD takes me," as her location. "Dum Dum" also mentions how the secular culture views Christians as mentally disconnected and dumb. "No gimmicks/Spirit in my lyrics./Know when people hear it/they gon' love/or they gon' fear it." In Fedoke's '90s-style spray-paint, trash-can choreography, the two rocked out to the song's first verse, which includes a quick reference to the Holy Spirit. Washington School of the Performing Arts in Dallas, Texas, taught him how to loosen up and groove. Hip hop proved a real challenge for the Latin dancer, but Comfort Fedoke, former street dancer and graduate of the Booker T. He is currently studying psychology at California State University in Northridge. The ballroom star first started dancing at the age of 9, focusing in on ballroom training at 17. He and Karmiryan look so alike, their own mothers said they look like twins.
Tumblr media
"Everything happens in life for a reason, and I thank God that I met him," Karmiryan's dance coach, Gregory, said. Gearing up to release his third album this Spring, he serves at The Village Church in Denton, Texas, and is raising his son with his wife.
Tumblr media
"I wanted to do college ministry…being a part of Christian Hip hop was never the plan," he said. Tedashii gave his life to Christ in college, roomed with Lecrae, and decided to use his freestyle rap talent to glorify God. Latin dancing star Paul Karmiryan hip hopped out of his comfort zone on "So You Think You Can Dance" Tuesday night, rocking out to Christian rapper Tedashii's "Dum Dum," a song featuring Lecrae and the line "Life in Christ got me finished like I crossed the line."

Name someone who has changed your life for the better. Weirdly, my old boss who was a dick, but it gave me the push I needed to quit my job and now I’m working the best job in the world.
Do taking tests make you nervous? I don’t really take tests anymore but I hated them in school.
What do you want as a career for the future? For now, I’m happy dog-walking and pet-sitting.
Can you say the alphabet in more than one language? Yeah, in three languages aside from English.
Who was the last person you talked to? Mike.
Do you and your friends have a secret handshake? No.
Do you eat three meals a day? Not really, I tend to have breakfast and then I just snack the rest of the day. I skip lunch as I’m always out walking dogs so I tend not to eat my second lot of food until around 2-3pm most days.
What do you want out of life? Happiness.
Do you ever tend to think too deeply? In the past, sure.
Name one world issue that upsets you. The fact that Boris Johnson is the PM of this country, lol.
Do you ever feel like your friends are ditching you? I don’t really have any friends.
Where’s the last fast food place you’ve eaten at? McDonald’s.
Do you know anyone named Sue? Yeah, I have a client called Sue, and my first boyfriend’s mum was also named Sue.
Do you like Wendy’s frosties? We don’t have Wendy’s over here.
How long of a drive are you from California? I’m about a nine hour flight away.
What time is it right now? It’s currently 4.32pm.
What are you going to do after taking this survey? Probably another survey as I don’t need to go out again until 7pm.
When’s the last time you’ve had a headache? A few days ago as I didn’t drink enough at work.
Do you ever get carsick? Yeah, especially if I have to sit in the back.
Name your favorite cartoon. The Simpsons is the only one I watch regularly, but I only like the early seasons really. When I was a kid, I liked Arthur and Spongebob.
How long can you go without sleeping? I’ve stayed awake for almost 48 hours before but I felt absolutely horrendous afterwards and slept for about 23 hours straight, lol.
Do you groom your eyebrows? Yeah.
How do you feel about tanning? I would never use a tanning bed but I work outside so I get a tan just by going to work everyday. My current tan lines are ridiculous so I’m trying to wear shorts now so my legs get a bit browner.
Do you sleep in pajamas? Yeah, either a shorts/t-shirt set or an over-sized t-shirt.

Fridays never seemed to come soon enough. You looked forward to the beginning of the weekend as much as the next person, but over the last few months, Friday nights took on new meaning for you. You moved to the trailer park a little less than a year ago, wanting to buy a small place of your own and start making a home for yourself. It wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t expensive, and it was only a ten-minute drive from your office where you’d just secured a promotion. Roberta, the manager, helped you make it feel like home right away, insisting on going with you to pick out paint samples and providing copies of menus for the best take-out in the area.
Before long, Roberta introduced you to the trailer park’s resident certified genius, Mary Adler. Mary and Roberta spent Saturday mornings with you when you were free, which unfortunately, was pretty much all the time. You played games, sang karaoke, and even let Mary’s one-eyed cat Fred come over. He took a liking to your swinging chair in the living room, and if Mary couldn’t find him at home, odds were he somehow squeezed through your window and ended up in that chair.
Another two months had passed, though, before you met Mary’s uncle and guardian, Frank. You came to learn that Mary stayed with Roberta every Friday night because “Frank needs time to be an adult” and she was not allowed to come back to the house until noon on Saturdays. This information made you feel like Frank must be some kind of sad, perpetual fuckboy. You were right about the sad part, not so much about the latter. One morning while Mary played with your watercolors, Roberta let slip - ironically over a cup of tea - that Frank did have the occasional hookup, but usually, he drank himself sleepy on Friday nights and just needed the time to himself. He worked himself to the bone as a boat mechanic, often late into the night because it was too hot to do some jobs during the day. Frank took Mary in when she was just a baby after his sister, her mother, tragically committed suicide. He spent the majority of his scarce free time with Mary, so when Mary was still a toddler, Roberta offered the Friday night deal. Frank countered that he would do any repairs in the trailer park for free, but she refused to let him do that work without pay, saying he deserved to have a life, too.
She also informed you that Frank was a former philosophy professor, single, and very attractive, especially if you were into the rugged thing. You rolled your eyes with an amused exhale and took another sip of your tea. You’d be lying if you said your interest wasn’t piqued. Mary then shouted over her shoulder, confirming that she’d been listening to your entire conversation, “Frank is great, but he’s a grump. Good luck cracking that egg.” You snorted, nearly spitting out your tea, and she went back to reading your color theory book to Fred.
With that, you heard a sharp rap at the door. You set your tea down on the kitchen table, curious who your visitor might be. You didn’t know anyone else in the trailer park, or in town, really. You opened the door, taking in the sight of possibly - no, definitely - the most handsome man you’d ever seen. You quickly guessed it was Frank, judging by the grease smeared on his quite large hands. His eyes, though tired, had the same bright look as Mary’s, and he had the most perfectly imperfect fluffy hair and overgrown stubble.
“Good morning,” he said with a sweet, closed-mouthed smile. “Is Mary here?”
You had to remind yourself to breathe. Stammering, you opened the door wider, gesturing inside. “Hi, y-yes. She is!” Why am I like this? “She’s just painting with Fred. Please, come in.” You moved aside so he could fit his broad shoulders through the doorframe and then held out your hand. “You must be Frank. I’m Y/N. Mary is just wonderful.” You smiled at him, feeling the heat rise in your cheeks.
He took your hand in both of his, gentler than you’d expected. “I’m sorry. Yes, I’m Frank. It’s great to meet you, finally.” He smiled wide for the first time and you were certain you’d pass out. Who LOOKS like this? “And thank you, she really is wonderful. I couldn’t do it without Roberta. She’s family.” He smiled and waved at Roberta, who was looking at you over the lip of her mug.
Mary didn’t even bother to turn around and face Frank. “What are you doing here, Frank? It’s only 11. I have a whole ‘nother hour with my friends.” You tried to keep your laugh quiet, covering your mouth with your hand and shaking your head.
“Well, excuse me for thinking you might like to go out on the boat with me this morning. I guess I’ll go by myself.”
Mary jumped up from the floor, scrambling to clean up your paints and books. “Can Y/N and Roberta come?”
Frank crouched down to meet Mary’s eyes. “Of course they can, if they’d like.” He looked back at you over his shoulder, trying to gauge your interest, then turning back to his niece. “But do you remember what I told you?”
You could see that Mary was making a conscious effort not to roll her eyes. “You told me that my adult friends have adult lives that include adult responsibilities, and they might not always be available to spend time with me.”
“And?” he looked at her expectantly.
“And I need to invite them to do things without assuming they will do them.” She couldn’t hold back her eye roll any longer, but she made sure not to let Frank see. “Roberta, Y/N, would you both like to join us on the boat today?”
You were amazed by the exchange taking place in front of you, able to see where some of Mary’s brains and tenacity came from. The conversation between the two flowed so easily, playful yet intelligent. It was clear that Frank treated Mary not as a child, but as a person, and you chided yourself internally for thinking that was kinda hot.
Shaking yourself out of your mildly inappropriate thoughts, you responded. “I’d love to come, Mary.” You smiled at her, bending over to help her pick up the last of the paints from the floor. “Roberta?”
Roberta gave you a look and you just knew she planned this somehow. “I actually do have some of those adult responsibilities to handle today, but thank you for inviting me.” You sent a glare in her direction, quick but no less scathing. “Maybe next time.” She winked at you before washing out her mug and saying her goodbyes.
You spent the whole rest of the day and night with Frank and Mary, doing everything from building sandcastles to cooking dinner together. Mary eventually fell asleep in your lap as you were watching Oliver & Company, Frank’s favorite Disney film that had become Mary’s, too. “An underrated classic,” they told you in unison.
You helped Frank put Mary to bed, a task made easier after such a tiring day. “I guess I should get going.” You stood awkwardly in the small kitchen, unsure of yourself and painfully aware of how close your hand was to Frank’s resting on the counter.
“Yeah, I have a job early in the morning.” He looked down at his shoes, unable to look you in the eye, and you wondered if he hadn’t found your company as enjoyable as you’d found his.
“Listen, I don’t know if you’ve been to Ferg’s? The little bar down the road? I go every Friday night just to relax and have a few beers. Maybe you’d like to come with me next weekend?”
Is he asking me on a date? You could feel your heartbeat racing. The look on your face must not have matched the excitement you felt at the prospect of spending time alone with the dreamy, kind, sarcastic man in front of you.
He felt like an idiot when you hesitated to answer. He clearly read everything wrong. He had to fix this. “It’s a good place to meet people, you know? I know you’re fairly new to the area, so if you’re looking for more local friends, it’s a good place to start.” He winced, hoping you couldn’t sense his embarrassment at thinking that you would want to go on a date with him.
You swallowed, trying not to let your disappointment show outwardly. Of course he’s not interested in me. Stupid. “Oh, yeah! That would be great, Frank. What time?”
Frank let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding, relieved that you didn’t seem offended by his offer. “How’s 7? I’ll pick you up? We can walk over together.”
And that’s how Fridays came to mean so much to you. Almost every Friday for the last six months, Frank met you at your door and you walked to Ferg’s together. Frank told you it would be a good place to make new friends, but you paid no mind to the other patrons. You only had eyes for each other, yet neither of you could see it, even though Roberta pointed out (repeatedly) that neither of you had taken anyone else home in all that time.
The more time you spent with Frank, the more certain you were that God was real and your life was His favorite trainwreck reality TV series. Even if you could have customized a dream man Build-A-Bear style, Frank still would blow your creation out of the water. He was smart and funny, not to mention an adoring parent to Mary, to whom you grew more attached each day. He was kind and thoughtful, talented and hard-working. Although he was a grouch, as Mary would say, he always was sweet to you. He took a genuine interest in anything you had to say, whether you were venting about work or filling him on the latest episode of whatever show you were binging. He was ridiculously sexy without even trying. All those hours he spent doing manual labor in the sun did wonders for his physique. You’d only seen him completely shirtless on one occasion, and the image of him with sweat dripping down his chest was burned into your memory, fueling your late-night thots and causing you to break out your vibrator on what was now a regular basis.
Six months had come and gone in the blink of an eye, and you’d begun to accept that Frank didn’t want to be anything more than friends with you. You decided tonight was as good a night as any to talk to someone new, to start letting go of your unrequited feelings.
You swapped out your usual jeans for a sundress, t-shirt bra for a push-up, and lip balm for lipstick. Putting your phone and some cash in a wristlet, you considered wearing your new strappy sandals. The walk to Ferg’s was about five minutes each way down a sandy road, though, and memories of the sticky floor inside aided your preferred pair of Converse in their victory for the night.
Just as you finished tying your shoes, you heard a knock at the door. You adjusted your cleavage and fluffed your hair a final time with one last look in the mirror. Here goes.
Frank felt like he had the wind knocked out of him in the best possible way. He suddenly felt entirely underdressed in his aloha shirt, even though it was his go-to for nights out of the house. He’d never seen you dressed so nicely when you weren’t going to work.
You were the kind of beautiful that didn’t require makeup. Your natural hair always framed your face perfectly, even if you didn’t think so. He thought you were adorable when you were concentrating on something, blowing your hair out of your face with a huff. Visions of your soft curves made their way into Frank’s dreams on more than one occasion. He had seen you in your swimsuit several times, sunbathing with Roberta and swimming with Mary at the beach. It wasn’t even all that revealing, but it accentuated your figure in ways that forced Frank into needing a cold shower or two. Above all, though, he admired your heart. You’d allowed Mary into your life without hesitation, spending time with her because you wanted to and allowing her to ask all those questions that Frank just wouldn’t be able to answer. It killed him that you didn’t see him the way he saw you, a perfect partner for him and a worthy maternal figure for Mary.
“Frank? You okay?” Your concerned voice shook him out of his thoughts, prompting him to close his mouth which apparently had opened wide in astonishment when you stood in the doorway.
“Yeah, um... You look…” He looked a little confused, his brow furrowed and lips pursed. “Why are you all dolled up? It’s only Ferg’s.” He wished he could’ve kicked himself in the teeth when your face fell at his question. He rubbed a hand over his face. “Shit. Let me try that again,” he nearly begged, running up to you to stop you from going back inside. “You look really nice, honey.” He ran his calloused hand up your forearm, but quickly returned it to his side when he realized what he’d done. “Is it a special occasion, though? Should I change?”
You gave him a watery smile, given that you were three seconds from slamming the door in his face and crying. “That’s better. Thank you.” You lightly pushed at his shoulder, trying and failing to ignore the electricity you felt at the contact. “No occasion, though. Just thought maybe it was about time I actually introduced myself to someone new.”
You couldn’t quite read his reaction. Little did you know he was certain he just felt his heart physically crack in his chest. “What do you mean?”
The two of you started walking, the tension between you thickening the very air you breathed. “Well, when you first invited me to Ferg’s, you said maybe I’d get to know some other people in the area, right? But we’re always with each other. I’m sure you’re itching to talk to someone other than me. I don’t want to hold you back.”
“Ah. Gotcha.” Frank abruptly reverted to the quiet, distant state he usually occupied before he met you. He sped up a bit, walking ahead of you and desperately attempting to school his features before you caught up with him.
Frank practically ran to the restroom, not slowing down even to hold the door open for you. You took a deep breath and rolled your shoulders, relaxing before entering the bar. Normally, whoever made it first would order drinks for you both, but Frank made it painfully clear that he had no desire to be in your company tonight. You ordered your usual, an Angry Orchard with a shot of Fireball in a tall glass. The combination tasted like apple cider, but the burn in your throat was caused by liquor rather than heat. It was strong enough to get you buzzed, but not so strong that you’d be stumbling home. You swallowed half the glass in one gulp, wanting to feel the warmth in your veins boosting your confidence as quickly as possible.
“Y/N? How are you?” You turned around, eyes meeting those of Jamie, your coworker. He leaned in for a hug and you accepted somewhat reluctantly, having interacted with him only in passing.
“Hey! I’m all right. What’s up?” You smiled at him, taking another sip of your drink. Jamie was not very subtly staring at your chest. You weren’t crazy about him, but the attention felt nice, so you allowed it.
“Not much. Just happy it’s Friday, ya know?” He looked around for a moment before returning his attention to you. “You’re usually here with that mechanic dude, right?”
You stifled a laugh thinking about how Frank would react if he heard himself referred to as “dude” by this prick. “Yeah, he’s around somewhere. We’re just-“
“-Just friends?” he finished for you with a hopeful look.
You nodded in response, looking him up and down. He was no Frank, but you couldn’t deny he was handsome. It had been so long since you’d even been kissed, and though you hated to admit it, you were touch-starved. One night couldn’t hurt, could it?
Meanwhile, Frank was splashing his face with cool water. He couldn’t believe he’d fucked up so royally. He was sure you didn’t want him how he wanted you, and now he was sure it was too late to tell you how he really felt.
He knew from the moment he saw you that he’d never get you out of his head. Roberta had been talking you up to Frank for weeks, but he wanted no part of it, mumbling something about there being “a reason why no one used matchmakers anymore.” He had no choice but to make your acquaintance when he was looking for Mary, and he’d never been so happy that Roberta could say she told him so.
Later that day at the beach, Mary approached him while you were dozing on a towel in the sand. She sat on his lap and reached for his face, using her pointer fingers to turn the straight line of his mouth up into a smile. “Roberta says you have a ‘charming’ smile, Frank. We think you should use it more.” He chuckled quietly, careful not to disturb you, and pulled Mary in close, planting a wet kiss on her cheek. She grimaced at the feeling, dramatically wiping at her face until he let her go back to reading with Fred.
The sound of the jukebox starting up cut short his reverie. He had to get out there and explain himself. Frank dried his face and hands with a paper towel before smacking his cheeks and stretching his neck back and forth to each shoulder.
Frank exited the restroom only to find some douchebag staring at your ass as you leaned over toward the bar. He saw red when the piece of shit held out his hand behind his back while his friend slipped a twenty-dollar bill into it, seemingly winning some sort of bet.
Jamie didn’t stand a chance when Frank stormed in between the two of you. “That’s IT,” he yelled, so intense he borderline bellowed. He threw whatever cash he had in his pocket on the bar to pay for your drinks before he pulled you outside, almost getting to your door while you fought against his grip. He only stopped when you spun your body around like something out of Dancing with the Stars and jumped in front of him, forcing him to catch you.
“Jesus Christ, Y/N, what are y-”
“-What are YOU doing, Frank? What the fuck was that?” You put your feet back down on the ground but remained facing him, arms crossed over your chest.
He groaned in frustration, suddenly realizing he actually had no clue how to respond. “Fuck.”
You looked at him, tapping your foot in anticipation.
“I didn’t like the way he was looking at you.” He rubbed at his temples in the way he did when he felt a headache coming on.
“And how was he looking at me, Frank? What does it matter to you?”
“He was looking at you like you were a piece of meat and I… FUCK!”
You both turned when your neighbor opened his window. “Can you kids keep it down out here?”
You waved bashfully at the old man. “Sorry, Mr. Parker,” you said in unison.
“Come inside, Frankie.” The nickname that typically made him roll his eyes at you never had sounded sweeter, now that its use confirmed you didn’t hate him for the scene he made. You both toed off your shoes at the door before you made your way into the living room, motioning for him to sit next to you on the couch when he tried to sit in the armchair across the room.
You leaned forward, pinching his chin between your thumb and forefinger. “Now what’s going on in that sun-damaged brain of yours?”
He let out a laugh so soft you almost missed it, but you were glad you didn’t. Sitting back against the arm of the couch, you pulled a pillow into your lap and hugged it, giving Frank your full attention.
Frank cleared his throat, doing his best to accept that it was now or never. “That guy was leering at you, and it pissed me off. You deserve better, Y/N.” He pried your fingers from where they were locked around the pillow to hold your hands in his.
“If you want to meet new people, that’s great. If you don’t want to be with me, that’s a little less great, but I’d understand. He didn’t even pay for your drinks. And I th-”
You covered his mouth with one of your hands, and he knitted his brows in confusion. “You’re making it sound like it’s an option to be with you.” You were in disbelief, side-eyeing him, waiting for Ashton Kutcher to announce that you were, in fact, being Punk’d.
The corners of his mouth lifted into the soft smile he reserved for you. It was the same one he gave you whether you were on a tangent about how “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey is “the single greatest diss track of all time” or you were helping Mary put a harness and leash on Fred “just to see how he’d do” on a walk.
“For a distinguished professor, you’re kind of a dummy, Frank.” You took his face in your hands, thrilled to be feeling his stubble against your palms. Before he could talk back to you, you kissed him, unsure how you denied yourselves such a simple yet extraordinary pleasure for so long. It only took a moment for him to relax into it, his hands removing the pillow between you before finding your waist and pulling you almost into his lap.
You deepened the kiss, threading your fingers through his hair. He pulled away first, pressing his forehead to yours. “Seems like we’re both dummies, huh?”
You were going to ask why pulled away until you looked down to see a considerable tent forming in the front of his jeans. You laughed as he pulled you into a tight hug, one arm wrapped around you while the other hand held your face against his neck.
You kissed the side of his neck softly before leaning back to look at him. “All this time? I thought you didn’t see me this way.” You held his face, stroking his cheeks with your thumbs. “You asked me to go to Ferg’s and then said I could meet other people, so I thought that was it, you know?”
He covered your hands with his and pecked your lips softly. “Honey, I thought it was the other way around. I was trying to ask you out and you looked like you’d seen a ghost.” You giggled, spluttering a bit because tears had started falling at some point. He wiped your tears away before swiping his thumb over your bottom lip, pulling it down a bit. “We’re fools, aren’t we?”
You nodded slowly and Frank saw something wicked flash in your eyes before you took his thumb in your mouth, sucking lightly. “Jesus, honey.” His length hardened underneath you and you could feel the wetness beginning to pool in your panties, prompting you to grind down into his lap.
You released his thumb from your mouth, pressing your chest into his before kissing him again. “I think we’re only fools if we don’t take advantage of the rest of your adult time.” You removed your dress easily, returning your hands to Frank’s shoulders to push off his shirt.
He surged forward to kiss you again, working magic with his tongue against yours. You wrapped your legs around his waist and he picked you up, walking you into the bedroom. Placing you on the bed carefully, he removed your bra and panties before pulling off his boxers and jeans in one go. You thought you wanted him before, but now that you could see everything he’d been hiding under his baggy clothes, you didn’t see how you could ever let him leave your bedroom.
The next few minutes were spent exploring each other’s mouths while Frank stretched you with his fingers. You didn’t think you’d ever been so wet in your life and thought you might pass out if you didn’t feel him inside you immediately. You gave his cock a few strokes before sliding his head through your folds, coating him in your slick.
“Waitwaitwait, honey. Do you have a condom?”
“You don’t need one if you don’t want one. It’s okay.”
He looked like you just gave him tomorrow’s winning lotto numbers, taking a deep breath to steady himself before he looked at you again. “Oh, God. Are you sure?”
“Mhm. I wanna feel you. Make me yours?”
“Anything you want, honey, but if you change your mind, just tell me, okay?” He lined himself up, seconds shy of entering you for the first time.
“I figured if you were gonna be possessive of me tonight, you might as well take it the whole nine, Frankie.” You laughed as he let out an exasperated sigh. “Seriously, though, I’m clean, I’m on the pill, and I’ve wanted you for a long time.” You reached up to scratch lightly through his chest hair.
“The only thing I wanna hear right now is you moaning for me.” He drove into you harshly, but waited a moment for you to adjust once he was seated to the hilt. “So damn wet and tight for me, honey. You’re so perfect, so beautiful.” He kissed you again before he began to move, slowly but surely making you lose your mind.
He dipped his head down to take one nipple in his mouth, then the other, effectively shutting you up and emptying all thoughts from your head. He nipped at the swell of your breast, soothing the bite with his tongue. “Fuck, Frank, please!”
“Please what, honey?” He picked up his pace, fucking into you so vigorously you moved up the bed. “Tell me what you need.”
“Make me cum, Frank. Please, baby, I need it. Need you,” you cried, leaning up to bite into his shoulder, stifling your moans.
“I wanna hear you, Y/N. I wanna hear those pretty moans while I’m making this perfect pussy cum for me.” The combination of his filthy words and the sight of him sucking on his own fingers before rubbing at your clit sent you over the edge, making you scream his name over and over again for what felt like forever and not long enough.
You could tell he was close, his hips stuttering and losing their rhythm. He began to pull out, unsure if you were willing to let him finish inside you, but knowing he was too close to wait for an answer.
You hooked your legs around his waist and pulled him close, pushing him back into you. “Fill me up, Frank. I wanna feel all of you. Please give it to me,” you whimpered. His release triggered another for you, chanting each other’s names surely loud enough for the neighbors to hear.
He stayed inside you as you both came down from your shared high, gingerly flipping you over so he laid on his back with you on his chest. He kissed the top of your head, fingers fluttering up and down your sides.
“What’s on your mind now, Frankie?” You looked up at him through your lashes, mildly terrified of the answer.
He looked down at you with the most adoration you’d ever seen, lifting your chin so your eyes met his in the moonlight. “That wasn’t too soon, was it? You mean so much to me and to Mary. I don’t wanna mess this up. I don’t ever wanna hurt you. You’re the best thing in my life besides Mary, you know that?”
You kissed his chest before looking back up at him, smiling. “First of all, I would argue that wasn’t soon enough.” He hissed as you clenched around his still softening cock inside you.
“You’re evil.”
Winking at him, you continued tracing patterns on his chest with your fingers. “Second, that all kinda sounds like you might be in love with me, Frank Adler.”
His hands stopped moving for a second before he responded. “Would you run away if I said I am?”
“Well, I wouldn’t run away. This is my house.” You thought your heart might explode in your chest.
“I didn’t even say it, but I take it back,” he huffed, throwing his arm over his eyes.
“What if I told you I felt the same way?”
He grinned, sitting up to kiss you feverishly on your cheeks, the tip of your nose, and finally your lips. You could feel him starting to harden again inside you, leading to round two of… well, you lost count.
You ate breakfast and showered together in time for Frank to return home before Mary did, agreeing to talk more later and to hold out on Roberta for a while.
Frank stood on your doorstep, leaning in to kiss you once more. All of a sudden, you heard a familiar meow and thanked God you were dressed and not in your robe.
“Frank, what are you doing here? I thought I’d come see Y/N since I’m not supposed to come home until noon.”
You bit your tongue to keep from cackling. Frank ran a hand over his face, his blissful bubble burst. He was getting you a hotel room next weekend.
