no real cheese will ever live up to the phantom taste i imagined the cartoon cheese from tom and jerry cartoons i watched as a kid tasted like.
this is the pinnacle of the cheese-based foodgroups. i think it was less the visual appeal (almost none, it looks like a dried sponge half the time) and more the fervent desperation with which the mouse pursued it. the permeating lust for this cheese.
the fanatical daydreaming was so evocative that my brain and tongue made up a flavour that will never exist and i am doomed to spend my life unfulfilled

So many mistakes are made repeatedly in the Lodge House that when Crutchie comes in and says, "It Happened Again." They have a little guessing game on what happened.
Crutchie: They did it again.
David: Elmer was told he was too small for the top bunk but slept up there anyways and fell off?
Finch: Nah, he would've come running crying to me. I'd say Race and Albert got chased down the streets by the bulls again for robbery and Kloppmans pissed at 'em.
JoJo: Not a chance, I would've been told immediately. I'm gonna say that Mush don't have the money for a bunk tonight, and we all need to fish in and help?
Crutchie: Suprisingly, all wrong. Buttons, last guess, what do ya think?
Buttons: ...Splasher fell in the pond again?
Crutchie: Nope, Specs and Ritz were goofing around at Medda's and fell into the orchestra pit.
Romeo: Jesus fucking Christ, that's the third time this month.

Bonus:
Don't mind me, I was just thinking about how Crowley must feel every time Aziraphale seems to put him in a box with the rest of hell. I know he tells him he's nice and kind and good and his friend just as many times or more, but still - after 6000 years of friendship and Doing The Right Thing together, it must have hurt when Aziraphale told him he's evil, and then even more when he told him you're the bad guys.
I just find it sooo interesting to look into every instance of Aziraphale talking about Crowley in either way. I want to take his thought process apart and study it under a microscope. We know that he knows that Crowley isn't evil, and we know that Crowley knows that he knows, and we (and Crowley) know that Aziraphale (up until a certain point) is just incredibly Heaven-brainwashed and it's hard for him to break out of that unless there's a situation at hand that requires Direct Action (see giving away the flaming sword to protect Adam and Eve, or protecting Job's children, or helping Elspeth to help Dalrymple, or stopping the Apocalypse).
How does he travel the world and the ages with Crowley and still somehow manage to call him evil with any level of seriousness? He is so convinced that all demons are evil, and at the same time he knows that Crowley's fall was unjust and a mistake and Crowley is NOT evil, but Crowley is a demon, but he's good and kind and nice and just, and Aziraphale sometimes struggles with that. Not consciously, I think, consciously he loves Crowley and trusts him and knows him well enough to see beyond angel/demon good/evil black and white thinking, but sometimes thoughts slip out of his mouth that are just. So far removed from what we know he knows.
He believes so strongly, in two things that could not be more mutually exclusive, and it's so fascinating. There's a lot of growth in that regard over the course of the series, we know that by the end of season 2 when he's talking to the Metatron, he is very clear in stating that his priority and his loyalty lie with Crowley, not with heaven. And I hold firm to my belief that he is going to Heaven because That's The Right Thing To Do, because he believes he can Make Things Better, for everybody, yes, but most importantly for Crowley. For the two of them!!
And YET. AND YET "you're the bad guys" somehow comes out of his mouth, when Crowley has Never really been a part of hell, and has always wanted to do the right thing for as long as Aziraphale has known him, and has been free of hell for Years now.
Still, Crowley is a Demon, and Demons Are Evil, angels and demons are hereditary enemies, right?
Except.... it's a little different when it's someone you know, isn't it?

What if...
It turns out that Aziraphale and Crowley have had ‘an understanding’ since the Blitz. Not only are they both internally aware of their own feelings for the other, but they each also know that the other one is head over heels. And both know these feelings must absolutely remain unspoken.
They continue on as they have been, all the while knowing the other is pining for him. This gives a new, even angstier meaning to their conversation in the Bentley and “you go to fast for me” and “don’t look so disappointed.” It also changes the tone of their interactions for the entire first season, especially the bandstand breakup and bookshop fire.
And now, after the apocalypse, they both know they’re “free” to finally be honest about their love but they find reasons to procrastinate out of nerves (first they wait to be sure heaven and hell really do leave them alone, then the pandemic happens, then Crowley takes a long nap...) and now a couple years have gone by and still, nothing is settled. They both know they need to talk. Neither one can bring himself to go first.
And into this pot-about-to-boil-over situation, enters a naked, amnesiac Gabriel.

A scene of destruction, the sky a wild torrent of reds, yellows, and purples. The apocalypse. Screams and snarls echo endlessly. But upon the earth, below the rubble….
Roach: you shouldn’t be here Nia…
Rat: Kine, please - I miss you
Kine’s expression crumples, their face twisting in frustration
Roach: Things are already bad enough. There’s barely anything left to fight over. Causing trouble now could break both our peoples.
Rat: Look at me
Nia gently grabs Kine’s chin. She looks at them with soft, loving eyes. Tired eyes, yet filled with hope.
Rat: Our love doesn’t have to be a source of hatred. We have options. Choices! You think them knowing will cause a war? Fine! Let’s leave! You want to stay? Okay, we’ll make this into an alliance! Prove we can be United! We will always have a choice. And I will always chose you.
Kine’s face crumples as they start to shake, a sob building.
Roach: I want to be with you. I want you. I will always want you. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. You deserve so much more than me.
Rat: Hey, hey, don’t say that. I love you. I’m here, I’m right here and we can figure this out.
Roach: Nia, I don’t doubt our love. I don’t doubt you. What I- *frustrated sigh* what I know, is that I- I may love my people more than I love you. And I know that if I chose you, I lose them. I’ve spent my whole life surrounded by family. People who love me, who will always love me - like you do. How can I hurt them? How can I abandon them? This isn’t about my duty or responsibly - how could I leave the people who love me?
Nia stares at Kine, deeply hurt. She looks away, her expression filled with pain, betrayal. There’s nothing to say. There will never be anything to fill the hole Kine just carved into her chest. She turns to leave.
Kine says nothing, helplessly watching her go. Tears silently roll down both their faces.
Roach: I’m sorry…
Kine whispers under their breath.

i finally finished the college tapes and while i am glad that it ended on a happier note (especially in comparison to other seasons) the fact that mark and oliver didn't actually get a final conversation that they definitely needed to have drives me insane. like not even a love confession or anything (cause both of them have shit to unpack and deal with before getting into a relationship) but like they have so much shit to talk through that had been building up all season that i for sure thought was going to happen, and then it didn't which like just sits weird with me. maybe i just was reading too much into it but like especially with after caleb and oliver's conversation where oliver said he was going to talk to mark and the fact that they basically danced around eachother all season the fact we didn't see any sort of closing conversation with the two of them drives me a bit insane

In my brain, all of the Brooklyn Newsies I've ever seen are canon to my brain, and now I just have, like, a whole universe mapped out in my brain.
Spot is the head, while Mack and Hotshot are her second and third in command. The three run the Borough with an iron fist. Well, the iron fist is probably hollow as they let their newsies away with just about everything.
Pips and Graves are extremely close, always being selling partners and usually selling by the Brooklyn Bridge. They always sell the most papers, mostly because they win over the adults with puppy dog eyes.
Splint, Joey, and Bart can't stand each other. Nobody knows why, but they won't even speak with one another. Ritz thinks it's incredibly funny to put them in situations together and watching as they try to do it without even looking at each other.
Speaking of Ritz, her and Snaps are siblings, Snaps being older by 2 years. Despite the short age gap, Snaps does tend to baby her sometimes, but she has put him in his place on numerous occasions.
Scope, Rafaela, and HoHo escaped the refuge together when they were each 14, 9, and 11. Lucky found them trying to steal apples from a stand and brought them straight to Spot, who made them Newsies the very next day.
Specs used to be a Brooklyn Newsie with his sister, Stray, but was far too scared of Spot to stay any longer and joined Manhattan instead. Stray still picks on him for this.
Hildy and Myron both help out at Medda's theatre when they aren't selling papers for some extra money. Hildy sells the food outside the stage, and Myron works as an usher. The Bowery Beauties have a soft spot for them and allow them to hang out backstage with them from time to time.
