i think i'm really good at group dynamics? friendship groups and big sibling groups and everything in between! i think i can write them well too in a way that's not confusing to the reader even when there's lots going on!

god there are so many ways to take this lol. i think i adapt depending on the type of fic i'm writing. sometimes i'm very intense and like,,, must get everything down immediately and sometimes i'm more chill. sometimes i plan EVERY detail and sometimes i just... start and go and see where the vibes take me
i'm more likely to finish something if i haven't planned every detail tbh, bc sometimes once i've done all the planning i get bored and never finish the writing part...

as a writer i'm aaaaaaall character work! i want to analyse them and understand how they work in whatever setting i've thrown them into. its why i really like writing like.. subtle aus? i can't think of how else to describe them. but like aus where its like,,, everything is mostly the same to canon except THIS ONE THING. and now let's study how that's changed them as a person lol

The sun bores into Genie’s skin, her short sleeves feeling foreign as they rest on her skin. It’s midday, the sun high in the sky as people and conversation drift past her, seeming to never. Her elbows rest on the rail of the pier, gaze fixed on the softly lapping waves of the ocean.
She isn’t sure why she agreed to come out here, to spend her day off driving around and standing about in the heat. She isn’t sure why she didn’t actually mind that much either, why she agreed without second thought.
One thing she is sure of, however, is that Farah is suddenly standing far too close.
“Got it!” she exclaims, excitement overflowing from amber eyes as she thrusts a cup of vanilla ice cream into Genie’s hands. Her other holds some chocolate, strawberry, and cotton candy monstrosity, topped with enough sprinkles to fall into like quicksand.
“You’re eating all that?” Genie gawks, watching the way a drop slides dangerously down the side.
Farah shakes her head enthusiastically, “And more!”
“If you throw up in my car -”
“Yeah, yeah, you’ll never speak to me again,” Farah waves her off without care, following it up with a large bite. “I can handle myself,” comes out mumbled through her mouthful.
Genie shakes her head, smiling slightly to herself as she turns back to the water, tugging her sunglasses on when a glare cuts across her vision. Their elbows brush with every little movement, their eyes meet and voices mingle every few minutes, and for some inexplicable reason, Genie just hasn’t pulled away.
It’s not like she has any trouble saying ‘no,’ or ‘not interested,’ or ‘fuck off.’ Yet as Farah elbows Genie in the side to try and make her laugh, all the detective can do is smudge ice cream on Farah’s nose.
Between the summer sun and Farah’s smile, Genie’s starting to wish she actually listened and brought sunscreen.
“Genie?” Farah’s voice cuts through her haze, the dopey half-smile on her face, and the stars in her eyes hidden by her glasses.
“Hmm?”
“You okay there?”
“Yeah. Fine,” Genie shrugs it off, shoulders tensing in a rigid line beneath the short sleeve that still feels odd.
“You suuuure?” Farah’s teasing tone is accompanied by her leaning closer, teeth glinting in a wicked smile.
“Yes,” the detective bites out. “Why?”
Farah shrugs playfully, swirling her spoon in the last melted remains of her cup. She looks up from beneath long lashes, grinning mischievously, “I was hoping to steal your ice cream if you were out of it enough.”
“Go ahead,” Genie passes the cup without hesitation, much to Farah's obvious enjoyment. A smile breaks across her face as she shoves her spoon into the mass of vanilla.
“Now I’m really going to puke in your car.” Genie’s eyes snap over, warning clear in them as Farah breaks into laughter, nearly spilling the cup in her hand. “Kidding!”
“You better be…”
A few more giggles slip from Farah, but she manages to draw an imaginary promise over her heart just long enough to placate Genie. “So can we do this again sometime?” she asks after a minute, already half-way through Genie’s ice cream.
“No.” It’s blunt, and familiar to Genie, and often a comfort to keep herself protected, but the word’s starting to taste worse and worse on Genie’s tongue when it’s directed at Farah.
“I’ll win you over one of these days…” amber eyes shine with amusement, future mishaps and trouble bright beneath the sun.
A stray strand of hair slips from Genie’s braid, tickling her cheek. She tucks it back quickly, turning away from Farah as she mumbles out, “Doubt it.”
“I don’t.” It feels like a promise, the way it rings through Genie’s ears. Like there’s a weight to it neither of them can quite see. And she doesn’t mind that either.
Or the way Farah leans her head on her shoulder when the breeze picks up.
