I gained too much power by being admitted to a Ph.D. program. So now that I finished my Master's Thesis (which I defended on Monday), which I will share here once I get it fully submitted to the grad school, I need to do comprehensive exams next year (following one more year of coursework).

For those who do not know, PhD comprehensive exams (also called oral exams or qualifying exams) are basically a series of 200-350 texts in 3-4 fields (varies widely between programs), which students must spend a year reading and then get tested on to stay in the program and advance to the dissertation stage.

I am developing two lists on American Gothic fiction and New Media as they are relevant to my current planned dissertation topic. Well, those lists have some interesting additions. I channeled my Dark Academia era and added Donna Tartt's A Secret History and some of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight books to the Gothic list. I also added Homestuck and The Magnus Archives to my New Media list (gonna add more video games and horror podcasts, too). I also have a whole list on Folklore, which is gonna focus on ghosts, magic, and monsters as well as folklore collection methods and ethics. So needless to say, I am gonna have a lot of fun. My fourth list is TBD, but I will make it just as unhinged as the others.

TL;DR, letting me into academia means I am gonna study absolutely insane things given the chance.

But since Roscoe can't talk and he's not trained for this, the dog just collects pets

At the end Hamilton takes home his kinda sensory overloaded baby

Another one for the "Where the fuck are you getting your information?" list:

In the art gallery that you can enter for Secret Mission 4, some of the art looks like either places in Limbo, or its got a similar color scheme to places in Limbo, in particular the fair pier in the first mission. Some demons, too, maybe, with one picture looking like it's depicting the conflict between angels and demons, maybe with humans caught in the middle. Which I know isn't saying much, since Limbo is just a bunch of vivid colors, and most of the paintings we see are pretty smeared, and the shapes are more suggestions that solid pictures, but still.

The main reason I bring it up is because of the one picture that we DO absolutely get a solid picture of: That of a young man, shirtless with blood smeared on the lower half of his chest, in black pants, holding a sword in one hand, and resting his hand on a Tyrant's severed head on a stick or maybe another sword. The arm that's holding the sword (the one that doesn't have the Tyrant's severed head impaled on it) is colored black up to the shoulder, and the young man's face is completely smeared out. The sword he's holding looks nothing like Rebellion, but I'm willing to bet that's a picture of Dante, possibly when he was in his mid teens.

I know its probably just a bit of concept art they wanted to toss into the game for funsies, but given all the weird graffiti we see in the twins' old playground and even on the walls of Limbo City, sometimes (which I know could've just been done by Kat, but if it WASN'T, then that begs the question as to who DID?), I couldn't help but notice it, and it stuck with me. I love the idea that there are other psychics like Kat running around, just not aware enough of the truth post-Limbo collapse to really do anything about it. Seems like good material for fic.

Idk if it's the same art gallery that Dante runs/slides through in Mission 4, but it could be? It looks vaguely similar, but I haven't checked it against screenshots or anything.

Admittedly, I'm bad at video games and despite playing it often and liking it's gameplay the best, I've never been like...Great at the reboot and tend not to collect most things. So I usually don't get the key's for the secret missions and usually don't go in to play them due to that.

I guess, as a result of that, I just also never consider them a very literal part of canon. Like they're not really a part of my gameplay experience and what is and is not canon is very subjective and all that, but further then that the fact that they're added in the series as such a primarily gameplay focused thing, I've never really thought about them being canon before. So, I don't have much to add about what the art in the gallery might be asdfghj

If we do take it literally though, it does beg the question who is painting all of these things and that would be fun to explore in a fan fic. Like a psychic who's powers are more based in recall and divination who doesn't really understand what they're seeing but has to get it out somehow.

Nintendo Switch: DDLV Update 3!

This game is doing so many things right. I could of waited to play for free but I am glad I did not. Game has been a slow burn so far. I am anxiously awaiting the next update after finishing The Lion King Update!

My last post (https://www.tumblr.com/orphancookie69/707635347789692928/nintendo-switch-ddv-update-2) if you want to see where have been before we talk about where we are going. Some cool things that got released from the last update that I did not talk about were pets, gliding, and path correction. The pets were probably my favorite!

Early June: There is much talk online in Facebook Groups about Fairy God Mother coming, and cinderella being one of the options for “a princess races in”. I am rooting more for venelope but the disney universe is so giant these days, the options are endless. Jack and Sally were talked about and honestly, with the next update being about the “Forgetting” it would of been fitting. A major story progression is coming, the “forgetting” is the great mystery at the core of what happened to your valley, and you. Some non story updates coming: umbrellas, multiple houses, and mannequins with outfits. Love love love.

Summer Update: Besides a visual confirmation, I hope the next newbie is Venelope! I think the creativity thing they are alluding to is the ability to make designs, I have seen a video where you change the design on your bed sheets in your house. Can you imagine a design competition?

September: FINALLY GIVE ME BELLE (and Beast please?). A new realm, finally a new door to open. The starpath goes from Disney turning 100 (back) to darkness. If we deal with darkness in June, how does it come back in September? Also, perfect timing because creepy comes back in time for Halloween/Fall!

Late 2023: New Characters. Who would be coming? The Disney universe is large, do they add fan favorites? Ones related to story? Some people are watching the voice actor list to get an early clue. New Frontiers. Adding to the map? Lord, my storage system is perfect right now! Multiplayer. Local? Online? New tool. I am guessing/hoping its a wand!

So excited! I am actually thinking of adding another game to my collection: Disney Speedstorm Racing. It looks way better than it has any right to. What are you guys looking forward to? What has been your favorite part so far?

Snail Mail Wanted

|| ~ Millennial Bookworm & Fangirl ~ || I thought I'd try Tumblr because IG penpal community seems too intimidating. Everyone has such gorgeous letters and I am one very tired millennial who doesn't have time for artistic and scrapbooky-like envelopes and letters. In saying that, however, I do enjoy writing 10 page letters of anything and everything and nothing all in one. The type of letter where, as soon as you see my letter arrive in the mail, you know to put a cup of tea on and get settled in... and it's like I'm there talking your ear off. (Which is hilarious because I'm a massive introvert who doesn't do that in real life. Unless I'm comfortable enough in your presence and you'll get that crackhead goblin energy from me). I do want to say that I would prefer writing with someone between the ages of 23 - 35. I feel like that's a good age bracket to vibe with, as I certainly don't act my age. So if you're expecting a wise, old woman. That ain't me. Wise? No. Old? ...well being 30 does feel old. Obviously I want to state that: Please do not expect fancy letters, or scrapbook-y decorated letters. I don't have the time or budget to maintain that. I just miss simple, long(ish) handwritten letters. That's it. With the added surprise of a few photos sometimes. Whilst I live comfortably, I am still someone on a budget, so sending parcels is just not doable for me, so if that's also what you're expecting...please find someone else. I would love, love, LOVE to be able to send Parcels but it's just not financially feasible. Alright... Now that we kinda know what to expect from my side of things... onto the daunting 'About Me' section! Hi. My Name is Charlotte. I am 30 years old, from Australia. I am a massive fangirl who jumps fandoms every six months or so but circles back to old fandoms too. I have 3 or 4 Tumblr Blogs floating around dedicated to Fanfiction etc for specific fandoms. I love reading! I have my own lil IG bookstagram account. But it's more to keep myself accountable for actually reading, rather than giving forth my opinion/review and annotating stuff (I don't know how to annotate). I've gotten back into reading after losing out on that long-lost hobby of many years ago. I am a creator of characters. I create and write OCs alongside my friend. 'Roleplay', it's called. But in written form. I love to play video games but I totally suck at them. However, it doesn't stop me from playing. I've also been wanting to get back into Animal Crossing to redo my Island but it feels too overwhelming to do that XD I used to do snail mail before Covid but...y'know...Covid happened and life got turned upside down for everyone. And then, I guess, 2023 became that 'healing back-to-normal' phase. So I guess...as we enter 2024, I think I'd like to have a penpal or two. I don't want to be part of anyone's collections. If you have five penpals already, please don't add me to the list. I'd like one or two because it feels like we're building a meaningful friendship, and I'd 100% like that. I would love to find a penpal from Scotland and Greece, but that's also not a necessary requirement. Anywhere is fine! Erm... I don't know what else to write? If I write too much about me, I'll have nothing left to write in letters. If I write too little here...I'll sound boring as hecc! (Which I am, but that's beside the point). OH! I guess...one thing I do enjoy collecting is coin from other countries. So... y'know...Ka-ching! but with coins. Not notes. I know life is expensive. I couldn't send a $10 note to you because... that $10 could be used! Um...What I'm currently into? Hobby-wise: Books! I do play D&D (Dungeons & Dragons). My favorite book is definitely The Song of Achilles with They Both Die at the End as a close second (apparently I like pain).

I’m don’t really know a name for what genre I most like but, fantasy, dystopia, and adventure pretty much sums it up I guess. I recently got into anime and now I can’t enjoy watching real people the same any more lol. Also if something I list has a book/movie counterpart that counts too, except for manga because I haven’t gotten into that yet(except for a few). I’m going to try to stick to my top three-ish favorites and not to list literally everything I’ve ever seen so here we go I guess (I say I guess a lot don’t I?)

Bridge to Terabithia (was my go to for favorite movie as a kid) and Ghibli movies; specifically with Howl’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke being my favorite movies

Sherlock, Anne with an E, and The Originals are probably my favorite (real people) shows and Hunter X Hunter, Attack on Titan, Fruits Basket, and Erased are my top anime shows (I haven’t seen that many but these are amazing).

easy auto wool farm tutorial!

alright, i decided to put my money where my mouth is and make a simple wool farm tutorial using only my existing redstone knowledge, mostly from hours upon hours of watching youtube. i don't recall ever actually making one of these in-game, and halfway through this endeavor i'm probably going to have to look up a video tutorial but i don't mind watching those so that's okay. let's get started.

welcome to my test world!

this is not an exhaustive list of the items you'll need, i'm sure. there's a collection method that goes on down below that takes more items, but i'm going from memory here. okay, to start, we make a glass tube. this is where the sheep goes! we won't put them in here for a minute though. then, replace one of the bottom blocks with a dispenser. this will have the shears inside, and will do your sheep shearing for you.

(also, by the way, i already messed up by placing an observer here instead. i took the screenshots and everything. maybe i shouldn't be writing minecraft tutorials at midnight. ah, well.)

next, dig out two blocks: one beside one wall of glass, and the other directly beneath it. they should be diagonal to wherever you placed your dispenser. place an observer against the grass block floor, so that it can observe when the grass is eaten by the sheep.

now, add three pieces of redstone dust from the back of the observer into the side of the dispenser. every time the grass is eaten by the sheep, the dispenser will fire, shearing the sheep. please note that this will also happen when the grass grows back, but if the dispenser fails to shear the sheep, the shears inside do not lose durability.

now i've put our sheep in the hole. to get the process started, you must shear the sheep manually first, so that the sheep is primed to eat the grass from below and set the automation in motion.

(side note: i am testing this as i go, and waiting for this sheep to eat the grass is like watching paint dry. i'm starting to believe i'm wrong about how this auto sheep farm works, but i am determined to see this through. it has been forty minutes since i began writing this tutorial. for some reason the grass is never transforming into dirt when the sheep eats it. i don't know what i've done wrong here.)

(edit from seven minutes later: apparently i had my mobGreifing gamerule set to false, which prevented my grass from changing into dirt. make sure this rule is set to true in your world, as i have experienced it interfering with many of my farms before. if you play with default settings, this shouldn’t be an issue!)

now that our sheep farm is working, we'll need to create a collection area! thankfully, this is also fairly simple to make, however it is a bit iron intensive. it may be good to set up an iron farm — or maybe just find a nice vein of iron before you start this project.

now, dig out the area directly below the farm. you will see the observer facing into the grass block above, which will help you orient yourself.

next, you'll place a double chest three blocks directly below the front-most glass block. this will be your collection area.

place a hopper facing into the chest, so that the tail of the hopper is bent forward toward the chest. i have removed one half of the double-chest for illustrative purposes, so you can see how the hopper is oriented. this should have one airspace block above it, directly below the grass block the sheep stand on. to place this hopper, you will have to hold your crouch key and click on the back of the chest.

now, place a singular minecart rail on top of the hopper. you will have to hold your crouch key for this as well.

next, place a minecart with hopper directly on that rail. minecarts with hoppers can pick up items that are dropped a full block above them, which allows the sheep to continue standing on the grass, and still have it’s wool collected!

and that’s it! a fully functional auto wool farm with a fairly small footprint. and i didn’t even look up a tutorial! i went a did a shit ton of death note tierlists and now that i have the urge to shit myself i will post them because i need an excuse to post something on my masterlist when i get around to making that

i didnt watch the 2006 live action because i havent gotten to it, couldnt finish the 2017 netflix version because of the gore, and havent watched the korean musical because i am superstitious and the circumstances of that are triggering so yayyy! so the characters that are on here from those are ones i have seen clips of and feedback and such

and some characters werent on there??? like mikami was in the jdrama and was an important enough character why would u not add him

Call me Crow. I'm 31 y/o, nonbinary, pansexual, and my pronouns are they/them. I'm married and we have two dogs, one cat, a parrot, and twenty-four chickens (I post about all of them a lot so you'll probably get to know them well if you follow my blog.) We live on a 2 acre homestead in southern Appalachia. I practice conjure and rootwork that was taught to me by family and neighbors growing up. I love to forage and make my own herbal salves and tinctures, as well as canned items like preserves and jellies. My partner and I are also professional portrait and event photographers, and I love posting our work whenever I get the chance.

My favorite band is Coheed and Cambria, with Sleep Token and Ghost following closely behind. I'm an old school emo kid, and I also listen to a lot of pop-punk, numetal, and post-hardcore. I also dive into j-rock and SOME Appalachian gothic, neotraditional country, bluegrass, and folk music. My tastes are a little all over the place and if it sounds good I'll probably like it.

I am a gamer, and my favorite game is a tie between Bloodborne, Baldur’s Gate 3 and RDR2. I have also been playing Destiny 2 since the launch of Destiny 1 in 2014, and I fall in and out of love with it every few weeks. Depends on what the content is giving me at that time. I also really like Minecraft and other comfy games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. I'm a huge fan of horror games and I especially love the ones with deep and interesting lore and worldbuilding.

I'm a writer, and have been actively doing so since I was 11 years old. I haven't published anything, as it's more of a hobby for me than anything (plus imposter syndrome sucks). I have a world building project/RP that I've had going with a friend of mine for almost a decade now. I love thinking of/writing new characters and short stories. I used to write fanfiction but I'm not consistent enough to post multiple-part fics anymore, and my schedule doesn't leave much time for that sort of devotion. So, for now, it's just a hobby I get to enjoy with a few select friends.

I'm really into creepy content. Cryptids, cosmic horror, ARGs, analog horror, and the occult. I've seen a lot of what there is to offer on YouTube, so I'm always open to suggestions on stuff that I may not have heard of. I also like to collect bones, antlers, and other oddities.

I'm a big reader, and I'm currently doing a 52 week book challenge for 2024. I usually read 2-3 books at a time for when my ADD says I need something different.

I am also autistic and was diagnosed as an adult (age 27). I also have relapsing/remitting MS; it affects my short term memory, vision, and balance, primarily. I also sometimes have some other cognitive issues (forgetting/flubbing words, names, etc.) I am on treatment for a few of the symptoms, but it does impact my daily life.
