Round 1 Match 36
Propaganda:
Acererak
In retrospect, I might have gone a little overboard. The best traps make their prisoners suffer and scream. Adventurers who visit my tomb die too quickly.
— The epitaph of Acererak, demilich
Acererak is a demilich famous for just being a horrible asshole. Architect of the famous "Tomb of Horrors", he invested enough resources to get himself halfway to godhood into hundreds of overly complex traps and elaborate mocking engravings. Multiple traps within the tomb even just teleport you outside while everything you own is teleported into Acererak's treasure room, lol.
Skid
Skid's entire thing is that he loves Halloween, with a particular affinity to skeletons -- his nickname is even mashup of "skeleton" and "kid". He's never been seen in person without his trademark skeleton costume, wearing it even when October is months away, because every month is a Spooky Month to him! Particular things Skid has done (contains light series spoilers):
Summoned a demon for a "prank call" that he then kept in his attic for two years
Befriended a giant eldritch monster and took it out for candy
Temporarily created zombies because he said it was Spooky Month in a morgue
Looked at the demon he kept in the attic possessing someone and said "that's not him"
Got mad at a possessed doll not because it was trying to kill him, but because it insulted his mother
Unknowingly played hide and seek with a serial killer and successfully escaped him
And on the topic of his mom- a thing I find really cute is that Skid's love of skeletons comes from him and his mom dressing as skeletons for Halloween! It really shows how much Skid loves her in such a small but noticeable way
One more thing about Skid I want to mention that I think is neat and not a lot of people talk about: it's heavily implied his deceased father was a member if not the leader of a cult that worshiped the eldritch monster I mentioned earlier, and as a resulted Skid has ~special magic properties~ that make him completely immune to hypnosis and mind control!
Ultimately Skid wants to have fun, whether it be causing chaos with his best friend or spending quality time with his mom :]

Peter had the unique advantage of learning how to use magic from one of the most skilled and powerful arcane casters on the material plane. Acererak had the unique advantage of being able to create an entire person for the purpose of explaining his special interest to.
Spells are:
lvl 1 - Chaos Bolt (wall of text in alt-id)
lvl 2 - Levitate
lvl 3 - Counterspell
lvl 3 - Fireball
lvl 4 - Blight
Bonus: Peter never learned "Sleep" but he did get it cast on him from time to time

My DnD party, The Ise of Dawn, are getting towards the end of our Tomb of Annihilation campaign.
When Lyra fell in battle, and they were forced to resurrect her, suddenly they all had a personal stake in ending Acererak's death curse. The clock is ticking, and Lyra's very soul is on the line, will they be able to save her in time?

While playing through the infamously deadly Tomb of Annihilation, my first PC, Dr Margot Moreau, was a necromancer who was trying to resurrect her dead son. My DM came up with the idea of the Big Bad, Arch-Lich Acererak, resurrecting the kid himself to use him as a manipulation tactic. This eventually blossomed the idea of Acererak using Peter as a new phylactery, which then became the story of Acererak just straight up adopting this kid.
I've wanted to make this comic for ages, I'm glad I finally did :).

Having played Magic for a solid twenty years has made me a good DM because I can just lift whatever I find cool and shove it in to my game.
Planes? Plot Points? Character names? All that knowledge is still rattling around my brain. Why shouldn’t this gothic horror city I need to prep just be loosely based off of Innistrad?
