"Masareal"
Tumblr media
A Filipino delicacy made from a mixture of finely-ground boiled peanuts and sugar. It is dried and cut into rectangular bars. It is traditionally sold wrapped in white paper. It originates from Mandaue, Cebu. The known makers of masareal in Mandaue are the Mana Acion's, Didangs and Ponsas brand.
Masareal has been always my favorite delicacy since I was a kid, back then everytime my grandmother would go for a shopping I always insisted on going with her just to buy a masareal. eating masareal has been always my enjoyment. Until now this snack is still my favorite it's my cravings everytime I feel sad or lonely this brings back good memories when I was a child.
The masareal is now known as a consistent snack without complex or confusing flavors. It always delivers that same rich flavor and can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere. Its convenient portioning also makes it appreciably quick to eat, so you can satisfy your cravings whenever.

Junior Year might actually be the scariest D20 season my fight-or-flight instincts were INSTANTLY activated the second Brennan said the word "MCAT" because that's the name of the actual real-life American medical school admissions exam and hearing that with absolutely no warning did not mix well with my "grew up with parents who view getting into medical school by 22 as the bare minimum of academic achievement" brain

ok but obi-wan as the twins’ fun uncle figure who is also anakin’s bff and is also a bit of an asshole so he bought the twins very loud drum sets when they were toddlers and very brightly colored toys that have a lot of little parts that anakin has to put together and other toys that make the most obnoxious sounds but the twins love their uncle obi so they love all the stuff he gets them......
only for anakin and obi-wan to get together and anakin to be woken up in the middle of the night once by loud and furious cursing; so he gets out of bed and goes to the living room and sees obi-wan rubbing his foot and glaring at a lego he just stepped on (from a set he bought the twins years ago) and anakin just has to lean against the doorway and point and laugh at him because this is karma!!!! wait until luke wants to play the drums at 8AM on a saturday morning!! then you’ll really be cursing!!!

Interesting (to me at least) that the 40K universe's most highly educated kleptomaniac Trazyn the Infinite seems to be interested in every galactic civilization except his own. Unless I am forgetting something, he doesn't actually collect other necrons or their stuff (Orikan being the exception but that's more personal than professional). Sure there's definitely political reasons. I don't think the triarchy would appreciate it if he tried putting Szarekh in a pokeball tesseract labyrinth. But iirc the thought never occurs to him the way it does with other races/factions/civs when he sees or meets their heavy hitters. He has lots of necrontyr and War in Heaven stuff, but modern necrons appear to hold no interest to him, despite being self-described as a person who collects everything.
I wonder if it's because he sees necron civilization as stagnant. It's boring to him. Maybe it has to do with holding a mirror to himself and his own condition that he isn't prepared for. Or the inherent bias that comes from seeing oneself as the "default" and therefor unnecessary to study. Also wondering if his attitude will change as the Silent King/Stormlord civil war ramps up, the same way the drama of the Horus Heresy made him actively interested in humanity. Idk, just something I find curious. A blind spot for our intrepid archaeovist.

In this edition of “further proof that they are soulmates”, I want to talk about Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc’s driving styles.
Charles 🤝 Max loving oversteer:
Tumblr media
Charles 🤝 Max hating understeer:
Tumblr media
And my favourite part...
Charles 🤝 Max making understeer work for them anyway and besting their teammates who actually prefer understeer:
Tumblr media
Even though the chances of Max and Charles being teammates are slim to none (because Max is completely right in saying that two #1 drivers should never be on the same team together), JUST IMAGINE developing a car to suit these two.
Would it be a dream?! Because their preferences are so similar, developing towards one is the same as developing towards the other: they want responsiveness/snappiness and said fuck it - we have the talent to deal with the instability. Remember Charles’ pole lap in Singapore 2019? The madman basically went through T3 sideways (and yet went purple sector 1) and had insane snap oversteer 3 times but never lost it. Remember when Alex Albon was Max’s teammate, and Alex also prefers cars with oversteer... but then he saw just how much oversteer Max likes and called it “a whole different world of front [end]”?
Or perhaps the car would become an abomination, a MONSTROSITY with so much fucking oversteer, so insanely snappy and on a knife’s edge, and the rear would be so loose and unstable - that no other mortal would be able to handle it at all? Like just imagine the poor young driver’s test. Some innocent, wide-eyed academy driver shows up to drive “the fastest car on the grid” but goes rear first off of T1 every single time because the car is fucking IMPOSSIBLE to drive if you’re not Max or Charles. If one of them loses an appendix and can’t race for one weekend, the team might as well not field a second driver because trying to get someone else to cope with that car would be embarrassing for everyone involved.
It would be the best car by a mile on the entire grid.
It would be the worst fucking travesty of engineering on the entire grid too - utterly undrivable for mere mortals.

I love AO3 because it is the only place on the internet where you do not need to worry about your works, or other people's works that you love, being deleted. You also know you can comfortably talk about anything you want. And I can properly tag it so that those likely to be triggered can block it.
For example, on Tumblr, if I wanted to discuss something dark, serious, or of a taboo topic, like say, eating disorders or anything sexual, I used to be able to tag it so that people triggered by those topics don't see it.
Now? If I talk about my experience with eating disorders and attempt to encourage others to recover, all with an educational and honest mindset, if I tag it with any of the common tags to get it seen by those people, I risk my entire blog being deactivated.
I have literally had this happen before. That is how my last blog died.
Now, if I want to make sure I don't see those topics, I can't block the tags because the people talking about them aren't tagging them properly. They don't want to be deactivated, so when they talk about them, it's with no tags or the wrong tags.
The amount of triggering pr0/*na stuff I've seen on my dash lately is ridiculous despite the fact my blocked tags look like this:
Tumblr media
And so on.
Or think about an egregious example...wattpad. I don't want your shitty alpha mate erotic self insert bts fanfic. You know what I can do on AO3? Filter literally any of those terms out.
You know what I have to do on wattpad? Scroll past them all because they make up the majority of the top stories in some categories despite wattpad's terms of service. Sometimes, I will start reading a nice fantasy story only to get part way through the second chapter and MC is getting r*ped by a pack of "muscular, dominant werewolves." I would much rather the author mentioned there would be explicit heterosexual sex and rape. I would not read it then.
People also have boundaries in wildly different places. I'm okay with reading a story about lesbians involving consensual nonconsent, you know, bdsm style, where the rules have been worked out in advance and there's a safeword + signal. That's fine, it doesn't bother me at all even if I'm not particularly interested in it. But make it a man r*ping someone physically weaker (regardless of gender) nope! I'm out. Even if it's not for pleasure purposes and is a dark scene which is traumatic for the character and is important for whatever psychological themes of the work. Aspects like that can be included in writing legitimately, especially in works on the more psychological side. But I do not want to see those particular topics, so I filter them out. No problem.
My favorite fic author of all time writes a ton of disturbing stuff in the death note fandom, which, given the tone of canon, is a ripe canvas to work from. Half of the good psychological death note fics would be banned within the first couple of months, I'm sure. Even darker/more intense works like psycho-pass? It had a r*pe scene in the very first episode. It was definitely not meant to be gratifying to the viewer. It is meant to be horrifying. Any fics that deal with any of the topics canon deals with? Control, manipulation, gore and physical violences spanning the range which occurs in the real world and how you deal with them? How you deal with the people who commit them? There is a vast amount of ugliness canon portrays that is meant to make the viewer uncomfortable. If it makes you uncomfortable, good, you are a normal person. If you're not up for these topics, filter them out.
Those of us who want to see even the ugly sides of human experience discussed in writing can read them in deeply unsettled peace and you can read a different fic.
Banning these topics from being discussed entirely? You make the whole of literature, of what we are allowed to discuss publicly, more shallow. The depths are banned. You can't discuss anything about them. Not from the cathartic voice of an abuse survivor or the philosophical curiosity of someone who wishes to understand people, even bad people.
In short, it's dumb, and completely missing the point of an ARCHIVE.

Iliad and Odysee are so depressing, name one character that had a good ending
(and no I won't accept Odysseus bc he was gone from his wife and son for 20 years and first fought in a war for 10 years and then went through the most traumatic journey back where literally all his companions died, and when he gets back the first thing he has to do is kill some more people bc they won't leave his poor wife alone, like this guy can't catch a break ever)

I am so glad you articulated the criticism of Dany crucifying the slavers as a political folly and not a moral folly like listen I am a Dany fan if I could send asks from my sideblog you would know this but I do not believe we are supposed to just brush off the crucifixion like Dany herself isn’t even fully convinced it was the right thing to do. Remembering it she feels sick and has to shut down her doubts and TELL HERSELF it was right. She is an interesting character to me because she can’t stand the compromises she must make to maintain peace AND YET she does want justice and liberation BUT she also hates the suffering and bloodshed of war AND YET she is quick to command violence on impulse. I do think her peace in Meereen was real (big Meereen Knot Essays believer) but all of her internal conflicts lead her to her mistakes. Can’t stand peace but can’t stand war so she just tears herself apart!! It’s tragic! It’s interesting! So much more interesting than an unambiguously heroic Dany who makes no mistakes ever!
Yeah, like....it's certainly morally messy, and I think it's morally more messy because Dany isn't a slave of the Ghiscari like Missandei or an Unsullied like Grey Worm, Red Lamb, etc who is rising up and using violent revolution to liberate the slave class of Meereen - she is a descendant from a foreign, formerly slaving culture that enslaved most of the cultures represented in Meereen, someone of noble birth who has experienced immense suffering but was able to pull herself out of it because of her immense social privilege and magical abilities, using violence in an attempt to liberate those her family had once helped subjugate while...still keeping herself at the top of the pyramid.
There's a lot of mess and contradictions in this situation and I find it much less interesting (as you say) when people paint what Dany is doing here as unambiguously heroic. I know I sound like a broken clock when I say it, but the justification of "well this culture has slavery and slavery is bad" is the exact sort of rationalization many colonial and imperial powers make when conquering. White Americans made it about various Indigenous communities ("oh well the Iroquois had slaves and conquered their neighbors" yeah and white americans had chattel slavery which is objectively worse so what now??), the UK and France used it as a rationale for conquering most of Africa and parts of Asia; there's always this annoying through-line of "well Africans sold themselves into slavery" and I think making this argument that "Well the Ghiscari are brutal slavers" is really similar. And I know people don’t like the dragon/nuke comparison or the imperialism/colonizer comparisons but….what made the genocides of the Americas, and the colonization and imperialism of the 20th centuries stand out from the wars that came before is the sort of hellish combination of nationalism, political schisms, fervent hatred of the Other, and industrial growth. Never before could people amass armies and kill on such a massive scale before. Never before did we have weapons that were so fucking good at killing. Never before did we have the bureaucracy capable of streamlining the process so damn well! (and not for lacking of trying, shout out rome but like...still). I think the dragons are a commentary on that - when someone has access to technology like that, can one person be left to decide if it’s use is good or evil? can one culture not be completely corrupted by their technological advances? can nuclear bombs or weapons Ever be used for good, and if they can be then where is that line drawn? who draws the line? why does that person get to draw the line? I don't think any of this will have a clear answer because that's not exactly how he does things - he's just writing a scenario about this and letting us analyze why it happens on our own.
So it’s like okay the Ghiscari and Dothraki are slaving cultures...Sacking a city is still a violent, destructive thing to do and she does it three times including to a city she is attempting to rule. The moment she had an inkling she might be ruling Meereen, she should have rethought her actions there so she doesn’t start off alienating a large group of people. Coming in as a stranger from a culture who used to be slavers and constantly making comments about how much she hates the culture she’s ruling over is....not great! Dany going back and forth between "I hate these people I was right to crucify them" and "there's too much violence amongst these people I have to stop the violence" is why the issues in Meereen become so complicated. Does she have reasons for acting this way? Yes! It doesn't change the outcome of her actions!
What's interesting about her is that as you say, she does realize this conflicting dichotomy within herself! That’s like, the entire issue she’s facing in Meereen - she wants peace because she knows that’s what’s best for the people there and yet struggles to control her boredom and temper because she is too traumatized to sit still any longer. She’s associated the constant move, the constant fight, the violence and blood and death and destruction with righteousness, justice, goodness, and we can SEE it’s having a negative effect on her psyche, her emotions. She’s not HAPPY by the ending of adwd, she’s not self actualized, she’s just hardened herself completely in the face of this unending monster of a campaign. She wants off this ride and yet she’s unable to find a way out. I don’t think we’re meant to cheer her on here!! SHE is barely cheering herself on here!!! It’s a burden to her!!!!
